Hmm - what now?

Ds(16) has decided that he doesn't want to go to college but wants to get a job instead. Can someone tell me if he is entitled to any benefits while he is looking for work? We are not sure what to do now.

contact connections. if he goes for an apprenticeship and the family income is under 30k a year he is entitled to 30 or 40 quid a week

other than that - your shit our of luck i think.

you really need to contact connections.

That's what I thought. So he's entitled to nothing then but family allowance and stuff for him stops.
Might look at connexions but up to now all they seem to do is push him towards college or training schemes that are unpaid and he doesn't want any of that. Will have to see what else they can do and he'll have to start asking round.

does he fancy an apprenticeship?

building or mechanics or something? college only 1 day a week.

if not i would take him down job centre and get him working asap.

this is why ........ when he has been working some shit job for 3 weeks he may regret his decision - then it may not be too late to still get him into college.

That's what we need to do. Just panicking a bit cos we need him doing 'something'. Don't want him getting in the habit of slobbing out at home and to be honest he's as keen to do something himself but doesn't know where to start.
