What is it about this book?

Background: DS1 reads, but is not the keenest reader, and always seems to be able to find something he'd rather be doing than reading. When he does read, it's usually books about zombies with words like fear, death or enemy in the title.

This book was recommended by friends at school. DS1 put it on his wishlist for his 14th birthday. When no one gave it to him, he used his birthday money to buy it. He is now reading it in preference to staring at a screen.

What is going on?

It is brilliant (in my opinion and also that of my mum, we are 35 and 64).

The characters are brilliantly written and so lifelike. You wish you knew them. You recognise people you knew and yourself in there.

I couldn't put it down and wept at the end because I wouldn't ever meet the characters again.

Well worth a read yourself.

My dd and her friends are obsessed. All i can get out of her is "Its Amazing" My niece who is 24 also read it in one sitting so obviously appeals to older readers as well. I have it on kindle to read so I will find out what the fuss is about.

I've asked him if I can borrow it after him. It just seems so different from his usual choice of reading material.

It's fab. I sobbed buckets on a packed train and was so glad when it was delayed so I could keep reading.

John Green does a fabulous Youtube show called Mental Floss.
Full of useless facts that I love!!

I always think that's the sign of a really amazing book, Three. It doesn't matter if it isn't your style - you want to read it anyway.

It's a wonderful book! Read it after him.
DD read it, raved about it and passed it on to me, then my mum and her friends. And my book club. We're none of us 'misery porn' readers, or even book club type book lovers, but we all found it beautiful and moving.

My Dd loved it and so did her friends. She never liked the Vampire genre.i know this sounds cheesy but this book relighted the sparked she had for reading when she was a bit younger.

The film is coming out in the summer. Dd doesnt like the casting because Hazel and Augustus actors play brother and sister in the film of her other favorite book of the moment Divergence

I really loved it. And I really enjoy John and Hank (his brother's) youtube channel ( Vlogbrothers ). Amusing & random yet very educational.

Strangely, I was disappointed by the 2 other books that I read by him.

It's a wonderful book. The movie comes out in June and it looks just as promising, I can't wait to see it.

I don't much like his other books, though. I own them all but the onlyo other one that stood out for me is Looking for Alaska. The others are good but I didn't find them to be as gripping as TFIOS.

I read the book and loved it , however dd read it and said ' nothing special , farrrrr to soppy ' but then she is the girl who also hates the titanic and the notebook and things like that because they're to soppy

Dd has just read and really enjoyed it! Any re ommendations for books : we have bought so many that have been waste of £ as they did not grip her and I'm keen for her to read at night after screen time. We take screens away at ten . Fingers crossed re more good stuff I'm pleased she reading! Any adult books that may be suitable Also? Mind you she is reading Marley and me again : a weepy ending! Thanks !

I've just started it - after I prised it away from dd1 (14) who keeps re-reading it. Brilliant so far. There's a film due out this year.

I've read "An abundance of Katherines" (dd1 is Katherine!) and "Will Grayson, Will Grayson".

He's a refreshingly honest writer, no covering stuff up, and his use of language is fantastic. Ds (12) who never reads anything except the Playstation magazine, is waiting for TFIOS after me!

Update: I managed to get tickets for DS1 and some of his friends to go and see the special advance screening of the film of TFIOS. I just dropped them off at the cinema and I don't think I've ever seen so many teenagers in one place.
