Teenagers

If your 15 year old DD shaved off all her pubic hair, what would your thoughts be?

This isn't about my DDs as they are slightly younger, but a friends DD and I'm interested as it won't be long until I'm having worrying teenage ishoos!

She has a boyfriend, quite a new relationship, same age, and my initial reaction was ..... he has watched too much porn and expects this from girls. Friend thinks it is all still quite innocent and this is her preference for her body rather than any pressure.

Thoughts please.

I did it when I was 15 just to see what it was like. I just trim now. Tbh, what other people do with their pubic hair isn't anyone's business but theirs.

I would say your friend is in denial...

Does friend remove her pubic hair?
Perhaps that's what her DD thinks is the adult thing to do. Though at 15, she's still underage for sex, so I'd be more concerned about that.

I'd think, that'll itch.

The boyfriend 'expecting' this because he's watched too much porn would be a massive red flag to me. If that was my DD I'd be having a looooong talk with her about why she felt it necessary to do this because her boyfriend thinks he prefers that.

It's her body, but I would be concerned what influence he or society has had on her decision.

I'd be getting her to read up on the reasons why it's more popular now.

Oops, sorry that was your thoughts. I'd still be having a talk with my DD though, just to find out why.

I don't think it's normal to know what a relative does with their pubic hair unless you are their carer, and doing it for them!

I shaved all mine off as a teen, before I had sex, or a boyfriend etc. I was just more comfortable like that. Furthermore, my mother either didn't know or never ever mentioned it, which is exactly as it should be.

Or
Her
Mother

If her mum is a waxer/threader/depiliater/shever, then it's more likely that the daughter will see that as a model. Isn't it?

Oops.
shaver. not shever.

I think its very much the norm now for young women to remove nearly all or all of their pubic hair. The influence is quite possibly from her friends more than her boyfriend.

Could be sod all to do with boyfriend. Friends talk about this sort of thing or if she has had a look through cosmopolitan or glamour they sometines do pubic hair design stuff

I did it at 16 just as an experiment. No itch compares! Lesson learned and I had a boyfriend at the time but we weren't having sex. He thought it was hilarious though.. Not all teenagers are jumping into bed with each other!

I must have unusually coarse pubes because I would itch like mad if I shaved, as it grew in.
If my teenage DD shaved all of pubes regularly I would worry about whether she was going to be on view on photos or videos or to boyfriend, if she only shaved knickerline I would offer to take her for waxing, if she didn’t shave again I would presume she had wiry pubes like me!

Possibly media influence?

Surely we've all seen Miley Cyrus legs akimbo on her wrecking ball in Primark quality panties and thought - nope, there can't be a single hair there?

I think it's become a social trend rather than anything to do with porn or pressure from men anymore to be honest.

I remove all mine. I have done for the last ten years (I am 33). I started doing it when I was single and the men I have been with all prefer hair so it's not a man thing. I just prefer it that way.

It's her genitalia. I wouldn't say anything. Just keep routes of communication open re the boyfriend so she knows she has someone to talk to.

10 years ago I was 15 and shaving it off. It wasn't anything to do with porn or it being expected I just did not like having pubes.

It wasn't just about sex, it was swimming and wearing short skirts ect no one wants to fall over and have a huge bush poking out their knickers.

How about everyone keeps their body hair how they like it.

: doesn't it itch or didn't it hurt?
Those would be my thoughts.

How do you know?

I have not a clue about the state of my DD's ladygarden, (or DS's mangarden!) but I have had short conversations about men wanting bareness down there being a result of the porn industryConfused

My first thought would be he has pressured her into it, that she is thinking of having sex.

I wouldn't say that though, I would talk to her about why she had done it.

Seems that over the last 20 years it has become far more common for women to remove their pubes. :( Seems the younger a woman is the more likely she is to view shaving her pubes as older women would have viewed shaving their legs and underarms at the same age.

Possibly not directly as an influence of porn, but porn via celebs, then fashions in clothes and underwear. But also it seems the younger a man is the more likely he is to not like a hairy bush too and think that a woman should completely denude the area. :(

it's probably worth checking that she is on the pill (and knows you don't stick it up your nose) and is stocked with condoms.

I did it about that age under pressure from my porn obsessed older boyfriend. As porn has become part of mainstream culture now I think it's become more popular. So the pressure could be coming from various sources but I wouldn't rule out a porn obsessed boyfriend
