Teenager girl with stretch marks

DD16 has suddenly developed stretch marks on her bum and tops of legs! They are quite noticable and have got worse since she first showed me them about a month ago. She is 5'7" and weighs about 9 stone, very slim although has become more curvy in the last six months or so. Is this normal? I never got them even through three pregnancies. And any advice for remedies?

I am very tall 5'9ish, I had strechmarks from being 10 or so when My hips began to grow. But also know a size 10 like 5'3 woman who has them too, I think some people are more prone?

DD has them since age 10ish, I got them on my thighs in my teens (but not one on my tum during my pregnancy though!)

Bio oil is her friend, DD found it brilliant (and Primarni do a small bottle for about ?6). Couple of months of daily application should do the trick.

She's now 16 and you can hardly see them at all - she has the confidence to wear short shorts and micro minis (with lots of Oompa Loompa fake tan, of course!)

Ok great thanks, we'll try that. She loves to wear tiny shorts and very short dresses so really wants to try and minimise their appearence.

both dds have them dd1 on her back/side and dd2 has them on her arms I am not sure why her arms though, bio oil or cocoa butter is what they use .

it happens to some people - as you see it is nothing to do with weight. Bear in mind that neither Bio Oil or anything else has ever been proved to work. Those who use it and find that the stretch marks fade would probably have seen this happen anyway.

a good opportunity to teach your daughter about the cons of the beauty industry.

It happens , it's normal and no bio oil etc will make a difference .

Boys get them too, my DS has a spectacular set - horizontally across his back like the rungs of a ladder. when they were red they looked like he'd been lashed with a whip!

Yes! My son also has horizontal marks across his back and stretch marks on his hips. He very tall and lanky. He grew several inches over a few months and now is 6' 4". He looked like he had been mauled by a bear.

Normal. I got them and never weighed more than 8.5 stone at that age. It's just a case of how quickly you grew, plus bad luck.

There was a thread about this a couple of years ago which was very reassuring.

Teenagers often get these 'stretch marks' - male and female - they are completely normal during the growing years, and they almost always fade away with time.

Tis true.

My son has them as well, across his lower back. He got them during a growth spurt when he shot up to 6'2" all of a sudden.

He's now almost 20 and they have faded and are barely noticeable.

Yes, they will fade.

I think there's a vitiman or mineral you can give to help skin elasticity. Ill look. Vitamin I mean.

Meh I could only find B and A. Nothing specific.

I got them really badly aged 11. Down my legs and tummy. They are only silver instead of the bright red and raw looking now though. It didnt take long for them to go silver.

I had the stripes across my lower back as a teenager, they were bright red...faded now of course. Was paranoid during pregnancy but my stomach survived 2 babies! Think its supposed to be something to do with the amount of collagen teenagers have...
