I have tried various things I have found on youtube but nothing seems to work.

Can someone please give me a basic step by step guide how to block all porn off my 14 year old son's ipad.

Thanks

Can you not just go into settings/ restrictions and then adjust the allowed content ratings

You can also block at router level to control the whole house.

How do you block at router level? I'm thinking ahead for my 7 yr old DD and haven't had to do that before.

It really depends on your router, some have built in features. (I'm typing as IT Manager DH speaks, though I do know about one in particular as I've set it up for my little "Work-DC's" interesting browsing habitsWink )

You can also use OpenDNS www.opendns.com/home-solutions

OP's solution is as Outtolunchagain said, restrictive controls on the iPad, as my suggestions will only work whilst the iPad is at home.

i know you can do these things and everyone on mumsnet reckons they block porn but I need a step by step foolproof guide how to do it as my son has been looking at some pretty hideous stuff, although I understand all of it is pretty hideous these days.

You'll never completely block it. It's unfortunate but that's the fact b

No probs supersec

Hubs is trying for you now to lock his and then work out if it can be got round. We'll be back with you in 10 mins. In the meantime, what router do you have or ISP if you don't know and we can work it out from there.

What browser are you using ?

Take off all the other browsers and use Safari. It has good restrictions.

to add to this, you can use the BT homehub control to turn the router off between certain times. The control is password protected. (be aware it doesn't recognise summer time so you have to set it to the 'wrong' time once the clocks change). I use this for power saving.

no-one needs internet in the night, and it will also stop a lot of pre-school faffing.

Blocking porn is like a game of cat and mouse. They'll be looking up ways to get round it. It's an ongoing effort.

Do you have any idea how I can block porn at router level where the router is a Virgin Media Super Hub? I rang them to ask and the guy just talked me through the way to block specific sites or specify particular keywords to block. Seems less than useless to me. Hmm

You need to get into the Restrictions area of the iPad: if you don't know how to do that your teen DOES and should however reluctantly help you do this. You need to reset the access code to something you know and teen doesn't. Don't forget the code!

Then within the restrictions area. HIDE Safari (no parental controls with that from what I read, not sure about who said what above). Then install K9 browser for iPad. Then set option (within Restrictions area) so that teen cannot install apps. And exit Restrictions zone. You will be pestered occasionally to allow installing new apps; change it back ASAP every time.

Odds are that teen has own App for Facebook, but you can get your teen to login to their FB account on regular computer where you make settings such that they only see important updates from their friends (not entire Newsfeed). This will cut a lot of inappropriate material and they will appreciate it eventually.

Also need to set the Router to have some filtering, I use opendns.

Youtube: goes back to google mail settings to filter that, I half forget how, too. Blush

You need multiple layers of filters.

Sorry, no. We got a more sophisticated one that allows for more control. DP is very geeky and we have a CNET and a DP Link. It gives you the control you need. However, bear in mind that there are proxy servers and the web is full of tutorials and tips for getting around parental controls.

This is the full service answer: //www.pageclean.com

  • This service acts as a filter for the internet
  • You can keep using the Safari web browser.. don't need to install an app.
  • Can lock it in place with a passcode

It's not cheap, but it's the easiest way to just get it done.

I also have teenagers hitting puberty and I would like to know the best 18+ sites blocking software these days (xhamster, theporndude,...) . So far I've found the following online.

  • NetNanny (netnanny.com)
  • MyPornBlocker (mypornblocker.com)
  • K9WebProtection (k9webprotection.com)
  • X3Watch (x3watch.com)

Which one is the best? It has to work on all devices (iPad, PC, phone)
