Just keep an eye on her. Until its a repeat occurrence I wouldn't get worked up, maybe just reiterate to her you don't think it's acceptable to smoke and you have given up becaus eyou don't want to die young etc.

It's quite rare for people to go through their lives without smoking, she may just be trying it. Most teens try it a few times, but most don't take it up, especially with what's out here info wise now an date cost of it.

Drives me mad that DD1s best friend smokes, and they will be out in the front while she has a fag and I will spy notice that she doesn't smoke but she wil stand right next to her friend and sometimes holds the fag while her friend uses her phone or whatever. She stinks as a result which makes me crave irritates me. Both have my eldest have had brief flirtatious with smoking but they don't now smoke so I really wouldnt get worked up just yet.

I dont like the lies. This isn't the first time either.

I wonder where her and her mates are getting them from as they are 14.

I'm cross because I was doing so well at not smoking and now I REALLY want one.

Tell her she's killing mummy.

Punish her? I don't think she's going to rush in an say she's been smoking, I think the lying is typical about this topic.

Someone will have got them from a friend/sibling/parent or just bought them, lots of the shops near me will sell to anyone. Although unless she's got money doubt it will be possible for her to take it up as a habit.

I know most children have a go at smoking. I just dont want her to get addicted as i did (at the ripe old age of 35 !!) it's awful trying to quit.

Yes, I smoked socially throughout my teens, as did most of my friends. None of us ever really smoked past 21.

Very occasionally I might have a smoke but making a big deal out of it will do you no favours. I would just let her know you would be unhappy if she became a smoker, and maybe if you think she is spending money on cigarettes you will limit her cash. I wouldn't get in a flap about it or start panicking about your holiday, thats sort of irrelevant to her behaviour. Alcohol is more addictive but I imagine she will drink and she won't immediately think alcoholic, it something most of them go through.

Express your displeasure and move on until the next incident.
