DDs have a Natwest Addapt account/card - it's for 10-18 yr olds iirc.
The card can be used everywhere but not overdrawn, and they can design their own card to personalise it a bit and all that

Mine had an electron card, which he could use as a cash or debit card, but he couldn't go overdrawn.

DS uses HSBC. He uses a cash card, makes internet transfers to us if needed and pays for his mobile top ups via online banking too.

DD had the same account and they upgrade it automatically to adult or student status when they reach 18.

DS did loads of research on this and came up with Lloyds as the best interest wise at the moment - we opened it last week and they have been quick and efficient so far. He has a debit card - you choose whether a cash machine card or a debit one - and can't go overdrawn; they also upgrade at 18. Look at how much he is putting in/likely to accumulate - some of the other high street ones we looked at seem really attractive interest wise but drop the rate much earlier (a couple of hundred in one case compared to a few thousand)
