After a interesting conversation I had with some family friends a few days ago I thought I would ask this question:

Did you, or plan to do:

A 16th, 18th and 21st 'Special' Party

A 18th and 21st 'Special' Party

Just 18th or just 21st 'Special' Party

With your DD/DS?

In my family I had a special 18th, in one of my mates family they prefer to do the 21st, a mate at uni had both, and one of my bros mates had a 16th. :)

Doubt I would get away with both though :P

What did you do? What did they ask for? Was it mainly family or did they just want a do with their mates?

:)

I did both, with friends not family (but have included family in more things since!)

Maryz my son is now 21 the one wth the cannabis habit! We went out all the family for a meal last night and he decided that he wasn't coming, he hates birthdays too. So we still went even though inside it hurt like hell.

My second son didn't want an 18th don't think he wants a 21st either.
My daughter wanted a 16th but her birthday is new years day, so didn't happen due to it being xmas and everyone had enough apart form being skint.
So it really depends on the individual and funds available I suppose.

My DS has said the reason he didn't want a party at home for his 16th is the way that people behave. He has seen people trash houses and also an hotel that he went to a party in recently.

I find it quite difficult as I had quite an 18th and 21st at home as did all my brothers. His decision, though. Don't know what my DD will want.

DS is only 2, but when I was 18 my mum asked whether I wanted a party and I didn't - my friends were all spread out in different groups so I just wanted to go out in town with them separately.

Instead we went on one of those weekend coach trips to Paris, just me and my Mum, since I'd always wanted to go :) And it was great! It was really special just to have her to myself for a weekend and of course it was fun to be away from home too Grin

I'm really close to my mum though so I suppose it depends on the relationship you have - some teens would run a mile!

DD - 18th and 21st. Family party both time (just meal at home, nothing OTT) and one for her friends for her 18th. 16th would have been regular birthday.
DS - didn't want an 18th and was during exams anyway. Not 21 yet.
Both got large-ish cheques for their 18th, probably would have been better saved til they were older though Hmm
