I am really soory, ditzyprincess, that must be really upsetting for you.
I have not experienced it with my own daughter, but as a teacher have seen it with pupils at school. I found reading about it to try to understand WHY qutite helpful, and there are some good websites, for example this one from MIND: www.mind.org.uk/help/diagnoses_and_conditions/self-harm
or this one:
www.thesite.org/healthandwellbeing/mentalhealth/selfharm which might be useful for your daughter.
I'm sorry I can;t offer any helpful personal advice, but didn't want this to sit unanswered.

DS did this and it was a way of managing his unhappiness. Will your DD talk about how she feels? To you or her GP or to CAMHS? Or all 3...

thankyou girls ,i don't feel so alone now,I have been to our gp and she has referred us to CAMHS ,she has said what has been bothering her to some extent ,I have suffered depression on/off for all of my adult life as does other family members so i have no doubt it's in my genes she is such a pretty and intelligent girl and i had so ho-ped she would be different ,my heart breaks to know she has been hiding this for so long Sad
