I've got the chance to have the jab tomorrow as I'm a "frontline healthcare provider" but I was wondering how people have been feeling in the days after having the jab?

I'm going away this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it, so if it's likely to make me feel unwell, then I think I'll pass until next weeks' clinic!

I only had mine today. I have usually had the seasonal flu jab and sometimes have a sore arm the day after and absolutely no other reaction at all. Today the nurse warned me that because I will have had no previous exposure to this strain, I may feel a bit fluey for 24 hours after but not ill.

I'm only 12 hours in and feeling absolutely fine. Not even a sore arm. I plan to spend the next 9 hours sleeping so that should just about cover it.

I've never had the seasonal 'flu jab despite being encouraged to every year which I think is why I'm more concerned.

Had mine last week and have felt absolutely fine, just had a sore arm for a few days!

Did either of you have any worries about getting yourselves vaccinated?

I'm not sure why but I'm really struggling to come to a conclusion on whether to have it or not

dh felt a bit fluey the evening of the jab (he had it in the morning), but was fine the next morning. dd2 had a slight temp that night, but was fine the next morning.

Yeah I was worried about having it. At least I can now stop agonising over it and worry about other stuff instead

I had no worries about having this jab or any jab which probably doesn't help as I have no way of reassuring you because I haven't felt the anxiety. What is it you are worried about?

What if you have all had swine flu? Not sure if ds 3yrs had it. Would you have it anyway?

Side effect I think eclipse but tbh I'm not realy sure - just go nagging doubts!

lavenderkate unless the illness was clinically confirmed as being H1N1 by swabbing the advice is still to have the jab.

I guess I tend to focus on drug positives rather than negatives. I am someone who reads the leaflets in tablets and still not worry about side-effects. When drugs are very commonly taken, effects that are thought to be side effects can actually just be coincidence but have to be reported anyway (that's how I reassure myself - not taking a scientific stance here).

lavenderkate - my gp thinks my family have all now had swine flu but recommended the vaccination anyway since we haven't been swabbed. The vaccine does no harm (allegedly) but getting flu can to high risk groups, was her reasoning.

thanks girls - i read this with interest as work in a surgery and we are all getting ours in the next few days - i am slightly anxious about it but will definitely have it. DH had his 2 days ago and had a very sore arm afterwards - but is as i write admitting someone with all the hallmarks of severe swine flu to hospital, so i am glad he had it...

all three of my dc have had it and they were all absolutely fine, had slightly raised temps a couple of days afterwards, but I wouldn't have noticed unless I'd been recording their temps for the trial.

I really wasn't keen on this vaccination at all but guilt and ethical issues got to me. I went yesterday and got it. Have a sore arm but otherwise feel fine. Am glad I don't need to debate it with myself anymore. Was going to get seasonal flu jab too (in for a penny, in for a pound) but occupational health nurse says they are no longer giving them at the same time due to severity of side effects. Need to wait a week inbetween jabs. Have never had flu in life, nor the seasonal vaccine so I am not sure if I will do that one.

Hi my DD had her normal flu jab today and the nurse said they are getting the swine flu vaccine in next week and wants to have DD in with the first lot done. Are the side effects worse than the normal flu jab? Are there usually side effects with the flu jab at all? DD is grumpy after having it but hard to tell as she's been out of sorts lately anyway.

mears I was told I could have them at the same time, despite being 38 wks pg. I decided I would have them separately as thought it might be a bit of an overload. So had SF vac on monday and having normal seasonal flu vac on friday.

I felt dreadful the day after my SF vaccination. Like Id been beaten up, didnt sleep well, arm was very painful, severe aching with chest pain.
But all better this morning so looks like its just 24-48 hours of symptoms then fine

I see you've probably had it by now, but i had celvapan on friday nad no side effects whatsoever, not even a sore arm.
Like you I was a bit indecisive, but went for it,and will now be getting DD1 'done' next week.

i was told that because it wasn't a live virus, there shouldn't be any side effects - obviuosly this wasnt correct!

I had swine flu jab on Monday. Have got a sore arm but thats about it. Had normal flu jab 2 weeks ago.

My colleagues have had the 2 jabs together today (one in each arm). Guess they will be sleeping on their backs tonight.

One of my colleagues had both jabs on Saturday and was off sick on Monday with chest infection!
I know that most people have had sore arm plus achy bones for 1-2 days with SF. I also know others who have had a couple of 'off' days with seasonal flu jab so it must be worse when you have both together.
As I said earlier, occupational health are now advising staff to have jabs at least a week apart. Not sure if the same advice for women as this only changed this week.

I didn't go in the end - I have decided to ask for the Celvapan jabs but so far Occ Health haven't got any of that type. i don't know if they'll be willing to let me have it when it does arrive though

Yes we are the same - when given together should be in different sites ie both arms

I had the two jabs (asthmatic). I had 24 hours of moderate flu symptoms - I had to take paracetamol, and I very rarely take any painkillers. My temperature was quite high - 39.5.
That was 8 days ago, and I have had 3 days of bad asthma culminating in an acute attack (moderate) today which the hospital doctor felt could have been caused by the jab - but I doubt it, there are loads of colds going around and I always have an asthma reaction to a cold.
Very scary to be essentially a guineapig though!
