Had our house extended/renovated last year, including a big kitchen/breakfast room with bifold doors, glass rooflights etc. This is where our four guineas have been living (we have two indoor cages) since the renovations were completed. it's not an ideal permanent location for them though as it gets quite hot on sunny days.
There isn't really any room to keep them in the lounge, or the kids room, so I was wondering whether the garage would be an option. I know garages aren't generally considered suitable due to car fumes/damp/poor insulation etc. However, this one is newly built, so has never and will never have a car in it, and we don't keep any other chemicals out there either. It's also been insulated, plastered and painted, has proper flooring, electricity and ventilation - it's basically done up to the 'spec' of a utility room, if that makes sense - and the door is one that seals flush to the floor, so no draughts or chance of predators creeping in. It wouldn't quite have the social aspect of the kitchen, but we're always in and out of the garage collecting bikes/scooters/wellies etc, and my eldest DS has some gym training equipment there too so it's in frequent use.
The only thing it doesn't have is a window to let in natural light. It does though have an internal door through to the utility room, which could be propped open to let some natural light through.
I am in a dilemma with this one...it's not perfect but then neither is the kitchen-diner. The garage would probably be a better temperature for them as it stays fairly constant, but the lack of natural light is troubling me a bit. Would you consider putting the pigs into the garage in this situation?
