This evening completely out of the blue and without warning my darling girl passed away. I found her in the cage.

To say iv cried buckets is an understatement :(

Obviously my main concern has to be for my remaining girl, please help me, what should I be doing for her?

Is it worth taking the deceased to the vet? Would they be able to tell me.why? Do I need to get the remaining checked over?

Iv never done this before. How soon does my other sweet girl need a new cage mate?

Can't give advice but I'm so sorry. On the positive side, just remember that she was with her friend and at home

The vet can do a post mortem but it will be expensive. So sad as she wasn't that old. There's just no telling how long they will live for. Take comfort she had a quick end and was at home with her friend. You loved and cared for her so she had a happy life.

Her friend will think she is the only guinea pig in the world and may become withdrawn over the next week, you'll know if she sits quietly staring at the wall. Ring round the rescues to see who they have and arrange a guinea pig bonding playdate.

She is just sitting staring. I am so sad. I took our remaining piggy to the vet and am pleased she has a clean bill of health. I am heartbroken

Sorry to hear about your poor piggy . It's often very sudden as they hide symptoms well, but that makes it a huge shock for you. Your remaining pig probably knew what was going on with her friend and it's good that they were together. She'll feel a bit lost and probably need lots of extra attention and cuddles. When my Scruffypig was bereaved I gave him some rolled up socks to snuggle up to when he couldn't be with me. Apart from that he was a lap pig until he could collect Gingerpig (then he perked up dramatically). He was on his own for nearly 4 weeks and it must have felt like years to Scruffy. He did seem withdrawn and quiet.

I'd phone a few rescues and see if you can find a companion ASAP. Some have neutered boars desperate for homes. Then go on some piggy speed dates to see if any prospective partners are up to scratch

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It is always heartbreaking.
Echo what others have said, try to find a friend for your remaining girl. Our Mollie really did pine when we lost her companion but rallied immediately we found Sadie for her. Mollie stopped speaking and looked utterly depressed when alone.
We spent lots of time with her, talking and cuddling her and we gave her a knitted doll thing to sleep with.
It is good they were together, I am sure they know when their friend us I'll and sadly dies.

The Rainbow Bridge has welcomed a new guinea .

TBH, a Post Mortem might or might not throw some light, I personally wouldn't have one done. It's very unlikely there's anything contagious, possiblity something familial (your piggies are sisters IIRC)?

Keep her close by, let her have some quiet time to grieve.
And YY Piggie dating, there are lots of single pigs out there.

It is so sad when they go but you console yourself with the knowledge that they had a good life and were cherished. What more can these greedy little cuddly rodents wish for?

Our GP1 and GP3 were on their ownsomes for 6 days before we matched them, waiting for the right piggie. At night they slept in DD room but I did feel sorry for them in the day in the Pighouse alone, but, it was their familiar territory.

I will be making dates over the weekend. This is the first day I haven't heard a sound out of our cage :( daisy is just sat in the corner. We've had her out for cuddles earlier but when kiddies are in bed she'l be coming out again

They look so sad don't they? Just loads of snuggles, favourite veggies and boxes/paper bags to chew and hide in. Just things to keep them alert and interested. Leave a radio on when you're not around and just chat to her when you are.

Scruffy watched so much TV when he was an only pig, he's a bit of an addict now and will shove arms out of the way to get a better view of a screen.

Love the idea of Scruffy the telephone addict.

Lulu used to live cricket especially when we were beating the Aussies. She'd get very excited and run along the back of the sofa.
Sadie loves Geoff Stelling on Sky football on Saturday afternoons, along with the Scottish silver fox who used to play for Arsenal. She snuggles down with DH and grumbles loudly when moved

I had a previous bun who loved cookery programmes and would settle down in front of the TV whenever she saw food. She especially loved Masterchef and did huge binkies when it started. She never even hid her eyes when they cooked rabbit.

Secondly - Sleeping you have been around here long enough to know that we're going to need so much more information. Name? Age? Sex? Fave veg? How did bonding go? Etc etc.

Glad you've found a companion successfully and so quickly too. That's brilliant. Well done. Hope the settling in goes well.

Well... first attempt at bonding went something like this...

Daisy... meet 2yr old neutered boar... daisy rears head, chatters teeth and bites at said piggy.... quickly removed from that bonding session

Next session...

Daisy... meet 2 Yr old girl who has successfully bonded with a big herd and rescuer is pretty certain that they will get on... daisy rears head, chatters teeth and chases said piggy until she is removed

Finally.....

Daisy meet 9week old girl... a tiny bit of nipping, then settles down to eat nicely together :) cuddles up on the journey home.
