Trevor has had babies (pictures)

And they are absolutely adorable.

It wasn't an intended breeding. We thought Trevor was a he. She was rescued by my little nephew from a livestock auction and then came to me as his mum doesn't like animals. We got Rubble from a local breeder as a friend for Trevor.

Anyhow Trevor got a fat belly and then yesterday I found these 2 little piggies hiding in the straw. If they are the same sex I already have a home for both. If different I have a home for the boy and will keep the girl.

Rubble is off to the vets next week for aN assessment to see if his testicles are descended enough to remove.

Aww baby gps are just so cute. We had a guinea pig that was already pregnant when we brought her home. We didn't realise until we came down to 'mice' in the cage one day. We ended up keeping the 3 of them :)

If they are both the same the lad next door wHo is having them has called them Miller and FrecK which is something to do with his football team.

DP says we shouldn't name them as they are not bloody staying.

DS who is 2 has named them Chase and Skye. To go with Rubble. He is a massive paw patrol fan as you can tell.

Have you separated the piggys now? may be too late as they can get pregnant again pretty quick!
Males become fertile at about 4 weeks so babies will need to be separated soon too.
Apologies if you already are aware but guineas move and breed faster than you think!

Yes they are separated now. And am going to take babies for sexing when daddy goes for the snip. I have a cage that splits in half with a ramp so poor Rubble is stood on the ramp sulking wanting his wife back.

I will be separating them at 4 weeks too. Hopefully they will both be the same sex and only moving next door so I can keep an eye on them. And once Rubble has done 6 weeks without his nuts they can be back together again.

My DH said we weren't getting any more guineas (and I yearned for a guinea to call Tarragon. Gues who has been living with us for the past 5 weeks......Oh yes. Tarragon (and Tilly, her cagemate)


They are gorgeous frouby absolute little smashers. How is Trevor, she must be jiggered with her paws full. And still a tiny girl herself.

70 they are fine and squeaky this morning. Trevor seems well. She is nice end clean and happy to be cuddled still so am happy with her.

I am upping her veg portions. Apparently lots of green veg is a must so she has savoy cabbage. And obviously half a red pepper. And lots of fresh hay.

Am going to pick a carrier bag of grass tomorrow from the stables where I know dogs haven't been.

But Trevor actually looks happier than the last couple of days. She was awfully big so must have been uncomfortable and heavy.

Just not for lardy adults

And YY she'll appreciate a wedge of fresh grass and getting those two little piglets out.
Aren't they perfect when they're born? Eyes,fur,teeth everything ready to go.

The babies are going to be very confused if Mums called Trevor and they're nameless.
They need names even temporary. It's not as though they answer to them they only answer to the call of a food bowl.

Thanks 70. I am chuffed to bits with them even though they weren't planned. Will pick them some alfalfa up tomorrow. Our local petshop only sells meadow hay so will be a pets at home job.

Poor Rubble is in a vile mood. Trevor must be smelling nice and he is sat on the ramp chuntering and stomping.

Poor bloke had to put up with a fat and grumpy Trev for the last few weeks and now she is nice and trim and feeling the love he has been banned from the marital bed and relegated to the downstairs living quarters. DP feels much sympathy and can relate apparently.

I did point out that those babies have teef and I would be rather downstairs in peace and quiet than upstairs co sleeping and breastfeeding but they both still are holding a grudge. Sigh.

GP3 referred to me as "The She Devil" when we got him neutered. He got the company of two sows so I think it was worth it for him

Yes he should. He still consoles dpony who lost his little acorns 6 years ago.

I think perhaps he is projectin a little. Our permanent contraception will be dps little gentleman's op. I just hope Rubble recovers well otherwise DP will be using that as an excuse not to get himself done.

And they can both sleep downstairs permanently then!

Our GP came running over to get his post op painkiller (he had a pain killer at the vets then we were given a bottle and a syringe to dose him).
He loved the taste of it we held him the first time to pop it in his mouth, then after that he came up to us when the syringe appeared.

Your DP can take his cue from Rubble (but guinea-pigs are much braver than some blokes )

Rattie as much as I adore the bones of our guinea-pigs, I honestly think as a rat owner ( Rat Slave) you'd be a bit "Disappointed" in guineas.
All the things you love about rats is not what guineas do.
Same with rabbits.
Pigs are lazy,lardy,greedy as heck, very very dependant little fur balls.
That video of your rats licking a whisk? Guineas wouldn't have a clue And those amazing You Tube videos of rats doing those climbing,fetching,picking up, figuring things out ..........................

Frouby the piglets will be getting more adventurous now - if you let them go out on the lawn, limit their time, really no more than 30 minutes, they can get bloat really easily at this age.

I think I'd like to have something a bit more cuddly at some point though, I love my rats dearly but they can be little gits! Whilst I'd still keep rats I think that once we get our own place with a garden then either ferrets or guinea pigs are going to happen, build a nice purpose built 'shed' for them and access to a nice outdoor space. I'd be torn over which to get though! I think GPs will be more likely as they'll be a bit more patient and easier to handle with young kids!
