Indoor to outdoor pigs?

I haven't been over here for a while but when did the topic name change?

Anyway, helllloooo all!
BigPig and LittlePig may possibly have a opportunity to move outside...
They have been indoor pigs since the day dot and are singletons but neighbours - both are about 3 years??? will have to check that .

I am toying with the idea of moving them to the stables. They would be in my stable and I would make sure it was super cat safe (no cats on the yard but plenty around) .

Beside the temp control change do I need to be worried about other animals? Rats etc?

They would be allowed to stable run it during the day as long as there is no horse in there (which there rarely is) plus a run during the summer possibly....depending on safety.

They currently have a cage each in the sitting room and come out for a run and cuddles as and when....

Hi Bonkey y'ole devil Grin

Hi to DTB (Dearest Thoroughbred)

Are your pigs still stroppily side-by-siders (little gits) I thought they'd built a bridge and got over themselves?

Stable living:

YY the temperature ( though in summer less of a challange, right now probably a bit chilled though if there are other horses in the area of the pigs house, they create a bit of heat)

The risk of rats would worry me TBH. GPs would not be a good opponent against a wild rat

And there would be a lot of noise that they'd need to get used to.

Horse pee has a lot of ammonia in it ( I can close by eyes and remember the smell of horse piss Envy < vom )

You'd have to get agreement/consent from other yard users that they won't go in there and put your pigs at risk.

Would this be the pigs going there during the day to run around the stable box and go home at night, or full time?
What if DHorse needs the stable urgently (if he needs immediate rest )

It does sound lovely for them, you'd need to make sure it's 100% secure or you know the little blighters would leg it.

Nope still stroppy little gits Grin.

I would have a outdoor hutch in the corner or two and they would run around during the day most days, back in at night! Stable living 100% if possible.

Emergency case of needing the stable we have a caravan they could be in temporarily until stable free's up again. Short term there is already a whacking great big wooden box in there and still plenty of room for equines so a hutch in the corner or two shouldn't be a issue.

Was thinking summer for the change over if we do it any way, would they get used to the colder days easily enough d'ya think when it changes again?

Other people not a issue, they couldn't give a fig what goes on Grin and no kids bar mine to cause trouble....

Stable has concrete floor and decent walls but would obviously check for gaps and seal up some how. Would a tough wire work?

:( to all the pigs going!

Girlys easier?
