Do rabbits try to give each other gifts?

Feel like I'm maybe being a bit mental here!

We have 2 buns, a male and female, currently kept in seperate cages next to each other - male has jus been neutered, female due to go in on mon.

Male keeps picking up hay and trying to push it through the bars to the female! She's just ignoring him...

They've been next to each other for a good 4 months now, communicate etc.

Any experience?!

I think at this time of year rabbits give each other little chocolate eggs :)

Your buns sound really cute

Yes they are super cute! Think OH would love to feed them chocolate eggs. Gah! The male is fab - so bouncy and lovely.

When my 2 guinea brothers were in last winter they had to have a divider in their cage (fine this winter thankfully)

GP2 used to slide his empty plate under the divide to his brother.
I don't think GP1 saw the gift aspect of it though (humourless little toad Grin )

Do you think the hay gift is a food thing or a nesting thing?

Yeah it could be a nesting thing I guess! Not really sure, but it's quite sweet watching him be desperate to get a bit of hay over to her and her totally ignoring him! He did it a few times last night, a couple of times it looked like she was trying to get it ('kissing' through the bars) and he dropped it - felt so sorry for him!

Once they are both neutered and 'safe' are they going to be housed as Mr & Mrs?
She might change temperement once she's neutered.
And it will be interesting to see how they interact when they are together.

What do you get if you pour boiling water down a rabbit burrow?

Yes we're going to hopefully keep them together. I don't think there'll be any problems but who knows! She's going in on Monday for her op.
