has anyone else got this on their guinea-pigs eyes?
One of our little boys has got a bit of white inner eye-lid showing on the lower lid of one eye. He's always had it, the vet saw him before he was rehomed to us.
one of my piggies i had years ago had this in both eyes, she never had any problems.

the skin in pinky/beige not inflammed or anything, no weepy /crusting.
just wondered if it's common.

excuse the dreadful typing, gp is on my shoulder and jigging about in case i steal his parsley Grin

One of DDs has this. Just a teenie tiny sliver of white, but with both eyes. It hasn't caused any problems either.

I hadn't encountered this before, but one of the "guest pigs" we looked at over the summer while their mum was abroad had alot more white around the eyes and it certainly seemed quite normal. Made him a very expressive pig actually. Is it something like this?

Lovely photo Kritiq that GPs eye looks more blue-ey.

It's the little black rough coat DIWW -it's only on his right eye and its the bottom lid nearest to his ear (if that makes sense) I keep a check on him to make sure he doesn't get hay seeds or anything in it.Seems fine with it.

I was wondering-another story- my GPs are brothers but they are different coats. I've had wildly different colours in a litter before, but both parents were Abasynian (sp), so the babies were rosetted.

GP1 -agouti- is a big smooth coat.
GP2 -all black except a couple of white hairs- is smaller and fluffier with one rossette on his back.

Maybe there was an Abasynian somewhere back in their history. Or they are half-brothers (same dad different mums?)

I was curious because it is DDs big agouti boy who has the droopy eyelids.

I believe it is possible they are brothers as the abyssinian gene is dominant, so it is possible to get a smooth coat from breeding two abby GPs, just a 1 in 4 chance, but only if they have both the abby gene and the smooth coat gene, so a baby that gets a smooth coat gene from each parent would end up smooth, and the other 3 would be abby. It would also work with an abby bred with a smooth coat, but a 1:1 chance of abby vs smooth babies IYSWIM Confused

Aw thank you. Merlin was quite a character, not just because of his expressive eyes. :)

Do you mean fatty eye? I had a pig about 10 years ago who had this. Actually now that I think about it, I think I had another as well, but his wasn't so bad. I don't have any good photos of either (pre digital slr days!) but I found this photo which although small, does show a fairly extreme example of it. If you pull the outer eyelid back, you can generally see alot more of it underneath - sort of white and lumpy?

fatty eye

I was told by CCT (who saw both Warren and later Will) that it tends to run in families (although they weren't related and I had them at different times,) but that unless the growth got very large and caused irritation to the pig or obstructed its vision, it was best left and watched.

That photo is exactly what our little fluffy boy has got KRITIQ but a bit smaller.

I had a GP as a child who had it and she had no trouble and it doesn't bother GP2 but I thought if he ever goes to the vet (hopefully never though) they might mention it.(And make me feel like a bad mum if I've ignored it)

The black one is my son's GP and I really liked the name Merlin for him.
Son called him Ninja (DS is into karate and GP has a black belt (blends in with his black fur Wink )
GP1 agouti is called Chester. (He's DDs GP and she chose the name before she met the GP) Luckily it suits him!

One of my girls has this, I had toyed with taking her to a vet but she's always had it even when she was tiny (first saw her at 5 weeks) and seems very happy. Her sister doesn't have it at all.

Ah, such lovely pig names! :) It's worth watching to see if it gets any worse, and mentioning to the vet (or rodentologist if you are lucky to have one!) if you go for anything else, but unless it bothers them, it should be fine. Piggies tend to get a few lumps and bumps here and most are nothing to worry about.
