I wore this one to a party on Saturday. It's great for a post-baby tummy as it kind of sucks you in, and is black so very forgiving.

Can't link but I got the Phase Eight Agy dress, it truly is the dress of my life. Flattering, comfortable, modest and sexy all at once. A gem of a dress.
And it was reduced!
I love this dress, can't decide whether to go for the purple or the black at the moment.
It is very flatteringly cut, lets me take a size smaller than usual and is very pretty.
N.B. I am 40+ and fat, this is the first dress in years to make me feel gorgeous when I try it on.
i really liked this from Monsoon though i'll be wearing sth similar i already own if i actually go to a party this year
Thanks Edgar!
Hello. Just a reminder that, on this thread, you can actually post up the picture (rather than just the link) if you'd like to...
Oooh yes, so I can.
How exciting.
I love that Phase Eight Agy dress but it wasn't for me. I have bought this
Hobbs Angela Dress
and this Phase Eight Bolero to go with it.
The dress is a shade darker but they are similar tone so go perfectly.
I haven't had a "party" dress for years and am 42 and still not back to my pre-children size but this is the most flattering thing I have worn for a long time.
After trying god knows how many in so many bloody shops. I found this in of all places Tesco
It fits perfectly dosnt make my boobs look as massive as they actually are and to can it all was only 18 quid.
Bought a different one in plain black with see though sleeves as well which is lovely, not on the web site any more
Love all these dresses. What good taste we all have
Will this work? Who knows...
Hubby's 40th birthday party next month.
Found mine last week in Dorothy Perkins, leopard print top half with a peplum waist, plain black bottom half and a patent black belt. It's lovely very soft fabric but not the sort that will go bobbly and clingy but not tight.... I love it £32 but scanned at £25.60 as had 20% off wore it on sat night works Xmas do got so many compliments.
www.johnlewis.com/357848/Product.aspx
I bought this for a mates 40th and it's so nice on. Really flattering and very comfortable.
I've got a few things I need to wear something sparkly to over the next month or two. I needed something that will be quite versatile as I can't buy something new for each one. I ended up finding something from Warehouse which was great as it wasn't too spendy!
pinterest.com/pin/23010648067734082/
piprabbit - love the colour of your dress
We'll be wearing similar colours!
I've go this dress and I love it! hides a multitude of sins
And I got it when there was 40% off! Bonus!
Oooh - yes! I have bought a lovely dress, and shoes to match
Why don't my pictures show up?
That's really weird - they are showing now!
<slopes off>
Both from Debenhams, and both reduced.
Pics take a minute or so to upload once posted! Mnhq should add w wee warning about it!
My sister has that dress BIWI! It is georgous!
Georgous?? Gorgeous
That's luffly, BIWI
Not surprised it's sold out!
I got this, in red though. The fabric's a bit low-budget, but the cut's brilliant for those of us with excessive waistline lard
Warehouse have one which is similar to that Jigsaw one, it's £80.
I love the Coast Telina dress here - just wish I'd bought it when John Lewis had 20% off, not sure I can justify it at full price
Lovely photos and suggestions! Please do keep them coming - all very gratefully received.
Although as an afterthought, we should have added that along with the photos, please don't forget to post a link to the dress too (or we can't see where it's from!)
Have just had a nosey on the warehouse website and can't spot any similar to the jigsaw one?
I guess this H&M dress is similar but I really don't like it, just looks cheap (fair enough, at £29.99 it is!)
In real life the jigsaw dress is stunning, really intricate beading, great cut and hangs beautifully.
Have just bought this from Monsoon:
uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_11,mon_11.1/2531830108
That Jigsaw dress was fabulous. I've got a Warehouse top with the same heavy beading, but there's nothing on their website for this year.
Monsoon have got a nice sequinned, fringed, cream mini flapper dress at only £249 <gasp>

I want this one...
No idea how to do a picture...
This thread is making me
&
.
I have two scrumptious, adorable, delightful, beautiful little ones. One is 3 and the other is 4 months and I'm breastfeeding. This (small children and breastfeeding) means there will be no sparkly-bubbles-a-plenty-parties for me this Christmas.
To make this even more pathetic I saw some LOVELY dresses in my local charity shops today
(can't link, for obvious reasons!).
Sorry to hijack. As you were...
How do you do those picture things???
You save the image from the website (or take a picture of your dress) and then when you post, in the posting box there's a 'choose file' button that allows you to upload your picture.
This Vivienne dress from Fever is hugely flattering. Great cut and thick fabric. Comes in red or black.
It's not remotely glitzy but ideal for going out straight from work- just add jewellery, heels etc. Good if you want a multipurpose type dress for several occasions, especially as it's not especially cheap.
I'm currently trying to decide whether to wear it to the MN meet up on Saturday, or to stick with jeans <shy>
I bought this lace print dress from Karen Millen today - I've had my eye on it for a while, but was waiting for a 20% discount offer!
www.karenmillen.com/lace-print-pleated-dress//karenmillen/fcp-product/102DP27869
Am using the iPhone app and pictures don't show, also I can't post one
However I will share my beauty of a party season dress: Michelle dress from Hush - it's fab because it can be dressed up, it's lovely silky fabric, with bare legs, copious fake tan high heels and silver jewellery, or worn like the Hush model over skinnies or leggings. I could literally wear it everywhere
plan to buy it in the claret colour too.
It's also great if you're pregnant as it's so floaty.
i love ummofummbridges - that is lush. fit wise going to be a bit tight round the bum on me - even if i had the occasion to wear it to!
GlaikitFizzog - I have just received that dress today, without the discount sadly, but have found it almost impossible to get hold of. As soon as they go on the site they sell out. But tis worth every penny.
I can confirm it is super flattering, even for a, ahem, curvier person like myself (no pleats on the back skirt bit so doesn't stick out), very stylish and the Holy Grail - a sleeved dress!
Wow that dress is gorgeous Anskabel
Here here moonshine! I've been searching for something like it since adele at the Grammys in February! Or was it the Brits. It was adele anyway!
I have also discovered fit and flare dresses from Dotty Ps and very flattering! And bargainous!
Oh Edgar I have tried that Damsel one on it is lovely, very very flattering.
This is my dress of choice it has a great shape just below the knee low cut but not porno esque. have bought it for my sisters wedding
I want this but cannot justify the cost right now
Bump- love this thread.
Annskabels - I think I saw that one in pink on the Asos website. I love it!
I've just this minute won this wee beauty! It's Pearl Lowe for Peacocks from a few years ago. I've been lusting after/searching for it ever since!
Yay
Doh! This one
Every time I try to post the pic it cocks up. Grrr. Link will have to do.
Also Glaikit - I just bought your dress. T'is gorgeous
piprabbit that purple dress is gorgeous - pls get purple not black
v
my lbd is really quite boring in comparison (no point linking, not in uk)
Thanks Santy - the back is the same as the front, a deep lace V, just enough flesh to be celebratory, not enough to be embarressing
.
Sounds like I need to get the purple
.
Coast - green and sparkly sequins but I love it!
i nearly bought that coast one Joyce
instead i got
www.shopbop.com/rilo-square-neck-dress-alice/vp/v=1/845524441945446.htm?folderID=2534374302023685&fm=browse-brand-shopbysize-viewall&colorId=12867
Is the Phase 8 Agy dress too partyish for work? I love drapey dressed but I'm worried that may be OTT for in the office.
Dress?????
runs
I have this Alice Temperley Please bear in mind that I am old and a bit wobbly-- classic dresser.
Bum ... wobbly
This is mine. Does wonders for my non-existant waist
.
overmydeadbody your dress is beeeeyootiful! What's the sizing like, is it very clingy? Will it hide the 6lbs I need to lose?
I've just bought this. Hopefully with some sparkly accessories it'll take me from work to cocktails on a girly night out!
us.asos.com/Vila-Knit-Chiffon-Dress/yq50w/?iid=2457781&action=signout&mporgp=Lw..
You can't go wrong with the Davina from LK Bennett - I have it in 3 different colours
strictly - what do you mean 'old'?! I'm 53!
Got this in Chester as a treat to myself for surviving a rubbish year! It's super figure hugging and the material and cut make it look super expensive. It reminds me of a Karen Millen dress but for a fraction of the price. Love it.
My picture vanished!
BIWI Ok well I shall just call myself wobbly then
Gonna have to be a link: http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_007010736860_-1?breadcrumb=Home%7EDesigners%7EWomen
Some lovely dresses there. My pet hate at the moment is the panel dress.
I'm not going anywhere that requires wearing an LBD type dress this year, but if I were, I'd wear something like this with shiny leggings and and I already have some velvet high sandals in that colour with diamantés that would match.

QueenBoo and Frogs - both stunning dresses!
This looks gorgeous but only available in a 6 and 14
Hobbitation, that is so my type of dress! Where is it from? Looks like a Ted Baker to me??
The dress Hobbitation lpictured is form Dorothy Perkins Janus, she linked above, noticed they also do a blue version which is rather lovely.
Thanks AWimbaWay and Janus.
I like this from debenhams. Not sure what I would wear on my legs or feet though.
This.
Oh. I can't do it!
I want this from vivien of holloway - waiting fo stock!!!
http://www.vivienofholloway.com/en/category/grace-circle-dress/grace-circle-dress/1378/#

Coast Prague
and
Coast Caitlyn
Marking my place, I seriously need to get online tomorrow!!!! The first page alone has at least 5 I would seriously consider, so this is going to be brilliant.
Thanks ladies.
I tried this on last year in red but ended up going for something else as wasn't convinced about the colour.
Just bought it in black - love it, it's fitted but the ruching hides a multitude of sins!
Coast Nikita
Thank you Djembe. There is the slight issue of whether I am going to fit into it but let's cross that one when it arrives
There are some stunning dresses here-if only I went to glamourous cocktail parties every week...
www.newlook.com/shop/womens/dresses/lipstick-boutique-with-jessica-wright-red-amelia-lace-sequin-dress_266725560
I will be wearing this to my running club christmas ball.
OMG Frogs that is lovely! I want one.....
bakedbeanqueen yours is beautiful!
I'm a complete sucker for red lace! How are you styling it?
I have spent waaaay too much money because of this thread
Message withdrawn at poster's request.
oh people Sorry .. probably best not use that ASOS text code i've just done some more research and although it does work it looks like its one of those phone companies that bombard you with texts ..
I dont mind it a work phone so I can block it ok ..
Oh, and sold out!
I love this teal off the shoulder that has been teamed with purple accents in the earrings and purse. Hmmm, decisions, decisions...
http://pinterest.com/pin/316448311286655899/
MissTamTam I love that dress. It might be my fave so far.
I am liking these ones too. As that Nikita dress is not in my size
Olivia
Nikita in Green
Damn this thread but I do need a nice party dress for my work night out.
This is mine. Very flattering on - disguises tummy nicely, great length and sexy whilst still being classy (well that's what 14yr old dd says anyway!).
It's on its way (excited!) I got it in the US on Cyber Monday so they had 25% off everything. I think there was 20% off stuff on the UK website on the same day Laska so fingers crossed you won't get bombarded.
I give up...
www.johnlewis.com/363135/Product.aspx?SearchTerm=phase+eight+vienna
I have been coveting this dress online for weeks my 40th in Jan and having a party so want something special..
today Johnlewis are pricematching House of fraser sale so 20% off.. time to get the credit card out.. hope its as nice in the flesh as it looks online.
fingers crossed
HalleLouja - the green one you linked is a lovely colour, I tried that one as well last year but wanted a black one.
I need to stop checking this thread or my credit card may start protesting, some gorgeous dresses!
bunnylubowski if you are a sucker for red lace have you seen this one?
www.johnlewis.com/356406/Product.aspx
A structured balck peplum with short or capped sleeves. Classic LBD of the season, forgiving on slight tum...and they are everywhere, for all budgets and most figures (Asos do a range for the larger lady).
I got mine from River Island and have had many compliments.
I would be saving my pennies for this dress if I had somewhere lovely to where it to
bugger - will just have to do link
www.vivienofholloway.com/en/category/jezebel-pencil-dress/jezebel-pencil/1207/
*wear not where - sigh
frogs How did you manage that? ,, the US ASOS site told me that it wouldn't deliver to me here in UK.. no bombardment yet .. it may be ok after all..
MY Coast Caitlyn came today .. its fab! really understated but with the ra ra skirt and the silk ribbon at the back is just fab,. I'm going to wear it everywhere! .. definitely recommend
I love the red New Look one, I'll have to investigate!
Thanks scubagoose - just bought the red lace one. I love it!
Not going anywhere special at xmas but fancy this one for a ball in the New Year. Will wait to see if it goes on sale.
Aaargh my link didn't work. Its the Scarlett and Nude Paloma maxi dress from Phase Eight. I tried to link from the debenhams website.
I'm breathlessly stunned by all the dresses! This has GOT to be the best winter in ages for exciting designs. They seem to have sprung out of nowhere - street has trounced couture again (love it when that happens!)
Despite seething with envy, I'm really appreciating everyone's posts! Thanks
I love this dress AND it's reduced but sold out in a 14
www.riverisland.com/women/dresses/branded-dresses/black-sequin-trim-Forever-Unique-dress--625872
My DH is a big sci fi fan so sparkly shoulders are IN.
Not a dress but a lovely soft sparkly tunic jumper. so flattering on. Not a brilliant photo either but the moment I saw it in October I bought it.
Bolleux !! Link here
AWimbaWay Yes that is the one! Thankyou so much.
Ooh, thanks for all these brilliant suggestions. We'll try to have a nice selection up soon!
(And sorry you've all had so much problem with the pictures, it's been forwarded to tech's to-look-at)
Does anyone have any suggestions for big fatty fat fat pregnant women? All the maternity dresses I've found are either hideously expensive or really shapeless and unflattering. I'm 6 months pg and can't find anything nice to wear
<Slopes off in pyjamas>
This is loveley www.lkbennett.com/clothing/dresses/DRLORENA175SILK
I wish I'd bought it in the sale grrr.
SayCool, the best-looking pregnant women in evening dress that I've seen have either gone for the plunging neckline, Empire line, fertility goddess look OR stretch jersey with proudly protruding bump. I think this is great: they've got some other sexy styles there, too
cute phase eight dress , House of Fraser brands sale today and tomorrow only £34!
danny frill dress
Coast Panthea cover up also on sale
www.meandem.com/collection/dresses/grecian-dress/products_id/1293/cPath/664_665_669
Me&em Grecian dress in peacock blue. Can't wait to wear it.
I'm reporting back on this frock. It's sold out again but they might get it back in before xmas.
Anyway, it's gorgeous. Fits beautifully (in a 12-weight loss woop!) and is really classy/50's. The belt is a bit like something you'd find around a smellies set from Boots but I'll replace it with a nicer one.
Still waiting for my Pearl Lowe dress to arrive. Grrr!
I am very excited, just been to my local town and a new Mint Velvet shop has opened. Tried on the above dress and it's gorgeous.
Love some of these dresses but I need sleeves. <old alert>. I've ordered the Coast Charlotte dress someone linked to earlier so hopefully it does the job. More with sleeves you style hounds. Please.
Singing, why not look at shrugs? There are lots of pretty ones about: long-sleeved, short-sleeved, fitted, draped, fine knit, shimmery; all sorts! As a bonus, you can often find beautiful ones at stupidly low prices.
Tell you what, pick some dresses and Tethers we'll find you some shrugs
Do you like this? Phase Eight metallic bolero, reduced to £28.
SingingTunelessly, they also had this dress with sleeves in mint velvet I loved it but was worried it might be a bit warm on a night out.
SayCool haven't seen you around for ages - not that you know me, I namechange all the bloody time. I like your name <stalk>
Anyway the dress I posted upthread is perfect if you're preggers, pair with heels, loads of sparkly jewellery and copious fake tan.
ta da
Ooh I like that, thanks Djembe.
No I haven't been around much, tres busy with <whispers furtively> RL......
I love that dress Bunny!
Marking place.
