What sunglasses do you wear?

What's good about them and where did you get them from?

Mine have broken and I've never bothered to have a nice pair, but thought I would treat myself this time round.

Any ideas?

Earlybird Fri 04-Jul-14 19:30:56

Tom Ford - expensive, but I've had them for 3 years, and they are still going strong.

www.sunglasses-shop.co.uk/tom-ford.aspx

I find I take better care of expensive sunglasses and umbrellas. If I buy the cheap stuff, I seem to break and/or lose them much more quickly!

noisytoys Fri 04-Jul-14 19:33:31

Tommy Hilfiger ones from Specsavers with prescription lenses. Free on BOGOF with my regular pair. Can't wear regular sunglasses without prescription because I can't see with them smile

Amrapaali Fri 04-Jul-14 19:35:21

A Bloc pair from TKMaxx. Cost £15. Makes me feel very glamorous...

Amrapaali Fri 04-Jul-14 19:37:19

These are the Bloc ones. Aren't they beautiful? wink

nilbyname Fri 04-Jul-14 19:41:31

Ray Ban Aviators in gunmetal and black
Ray Ban wayfarers in extra large d frames- tortoise shell
D&G leopard print large jackie o style ones
Whistles grey cat eye shape ones.
Then quite a few cheaper ones....
Oh and some winter sport ones!

Slightly addicted to face wear!

nilbyname Fri 04-Jul-14 19:42:10

TK Maxx can be good for cheap finds or Brand Alley.

HappyGirlNow Fri 04-Jul-14 19:43:08

Big chanels (2 pairs black and a pair of tortoiseshell), cats eye michael Kor's - again glam.. Rayban Wayfarers in black and tortoiseshell and Rayban aviators.. They're my 'cool' ones.. Oh and some Prada tortoiseshell mid sized - back to glam..

I love them all grin

poorbuthappy Fri 04-Jul-14 19:43:09

Moschinos from tk m

poorbuthappy Fri 04-Jul-14 19:43:34

Tk Maxx!!
Paid £30.
They are gorgeous.

Catsmamma Fri 04-Jul-14 19:45:13

try and get some with decent polarising lenses in...they are way better at dealing with the glare.

check the CE mark too, sunspecs should have it and means they have a proper tint and a UV filter on to protect your eyes effectively.

GobblersKnob Fri 04-Jul-14 19:45:50

Loads of different ones from tk maxx.

Cumberlover76 Fri 04-Jul-14 19:49:19

Ray Ban Wayfarers, tortoishell, original design. Expensive but the best sunglasses I have ever had.

notoneforselfies Fri 04-Jul-14 19:50:42

Def get polarised. Makes such a difference. Especially for driving... (I bought them when, after a rainstorm on the motorway, the sun came out and I couldn't see the road for the glare. Terrifying.)

brightonbirdy Fri 04-Jul-14 19:51:47

Bloc from TK Maxx grin

Fozzleyplum Fri 04-Jul-14 20:16:59

Definitely TK Maxx. Why pay £200 when you can pay £20 for an equivalent pair? I only lose them / sit on them anyway.

Bunbaker Fri 04-Jul-14 20:23:42

Prescription sunglasses. I have a small head so I just wear what fits. I can forget about the branded stuff because they are all way too big.

piratecat Fri 04-Jul-14 20:26:09

mine are prescription, Dior if you please, BUT they were on sale in a little local place, v cheap. about £100. Got to have them, esp for driving.

leadrightfoot Fri 04-Jul-14 20:34:41

Oakleys
Three pairs in car house and handbag
Polarised lenses
Wraparound single piece lenses
No light in or around the sides genius

CointreauVersial Fri 04-Jul-14 21:14:27

I go for cheap and cheerful. I am currently alternating between a No7 pair I got with a half-price Boots voucher, a pair from M&S, and a Bourjois pair I got free with three items of makeup at Superdrug.

I would just lose expensive ones, I think, although I'm sometimes tempted.

LovingSummer Fri 04-Jul-14 21:21:35

Ooooh good replies, thank you all so much! I just don't notice what people are wearing and so it will be nice to start somewhere with some pointers from you all smile

Apollonia6 Fri 04-Jul-14 21:22:34

Oakleys, like Lead has already mentioned; no light gets in at the sides, plus they last forever.

Oakleys that I got in Orlando.

tgrayson Fri 04-Jul-14 21:30:19

I love the ray ban Jackie oohs they are timeless, classic and suit most face shapes. I have them in the brown.

BestIsWest Fri 04-Jul-14 22:14:34

I have a couple of pairs of Raybans bought in Portugal but also a Mercedes Benz pair from TKMaxx and they are great. Polarised are Mazing.

spritecat Fri 04-Jul-14 23:15:00

I've got a pair of brown Diesel that are probably eight years old. They fit my face and are comfy on top of my head. Because they are not too dark the colour is good.
Also a pair of Von Zipper green and black thick resin frame. They are look gorgeous, fit well but boy are they dark. I bought them in Oz where they were perfect but they are just too dark for here.

Both the above were expensive so I have looked after them. It doesn't stop me impulse buying cheapies from Primark and my last lot were a £2 brown and gilt pair - brown, large and great for driving.

Shinyshoes2 Fri 04-Jul-14 23:26:33
OorWullie Fri 04-Jul-14 23:30:46

Mine were £1 in primark, they do the job and they look fine.

i lose/break stuff alot so i'm happy to replace them at that price when the inevitable happens.

Gucci

Daaarling

Like price/experience. But always better in Italy.

Only1scoop Fri 04-Jul-14 23:35:11

Rayban aviators

And

Ted baker big torties...

Only1scoop Fri 04-Jul-14 23:36:03

Look at secret sales site

mumat39 Fri 04-Jul-14 23:39:51

How do you know which shapes will suit?

I always feel like I look like Polly dressed up as Sybil in that episode of fawlty towers where basil pretends she's unwell. Hilarious episode, but not a good look.

Only1scoop Fri 04-Jul-14 23:41:09

grin

LumionaMoonsplash Fri 04-Jul-14 23:43:40

I have three pairs of poundland glasses which look far more expensive than they are. I love them all.

PrimalLass Fri 04-Jul-14 23:57:57

I only wear wraparounds, and they must not stick out at the side, and they must sit on my head flat like a hairband. Current faves are a Timberland pair. I also have a lovely Polo Sport pair, but I have stretched them by wearing them on my hair.

Marylou2 Sat 05-Jul-14 00:13:12

Oakleys.Worth buying polarised onez. Also Rayban Wayfarers.

Ludways Sat 05-Jul-14 00:53:27

Hmm, I have a but if a thing for sunglasses, in my defence I used to live in Florida.

Gucci x 2
Police
Persol
Ray Bans
Bvlgari

Reason: I love 'em!!!

Ludways Sat 05-Jul-14 00:55:39

In fact, I have a pair on my bedside table during the winter just so I can look at them even though there's no sun.

Strange, moi?

Cuteypatootey Sat 05-Jul-14 05:53:03

Black Dior cocotte. Big and Jacque o like. Pros: look good, have dropped them loads but still unscathed. Cons: expensive, not very good glare protection

Cuteypatootey Sat 05-Jul-14 05:56:12

Got them in duty free at heathrow

Eastpoint Sat 05-Jul-14 06:04:44

Maui Jim are really good lenses and if you break/scratch a lens you can replace them.

I also have some Prada & Tom Ford sunglasses, the Prada pair are a bit too light.

buttercrumble Sat 05-Jul-14 06:41:59

The great thing is that I can see, I wear Orla Kiely prescription lense ones from boots smile

MrsDavidBowie Sat 05-Jul-14 06:45:54

Another one for Rayban wayfarers. At that price I really look after them.
Also have Rayban prescription sunglasses for reading
I used to go through 3 or 4 pairs of cheap £15 sunglasses a year as I'd lose them or they'd stretch

prettymel Sat 05-Jul-14 06:59:53

Rayban Aviators is my favorite sunglasses during summer. You can pair it in every dress and style. I love wearing them during summer on a beach, pool and sometimes I use this whenever I'm driving. It is very comfortable and light to use. I also have cheaper sunglasses from online stores.

nowahousewife Sat 05-Jul-14 07:16:42

Rayban Jackie O's black
Prada tortoiseshell
Gucci tortoiseshell
Tiffany black

Plus numerous pairs I've left in places over the years including my lovely Tom fords. Love a big pair of sunnies and wear them all year round. Feeling a bit rough?..put on a large pair do dark shades for an instant lift!

nowahousewife Sat 05-Jul-14 07:17:24

Of shades not do shades!!

piratecat Sat 05-Jul-14 07:28:50

mummy39 grin

me too my head is little. have to get my normal specs from youth range.

HarrySnotter Sat 05-Jul-14 08:50:17
EldonAve Sat 05-Jul-14 09:01:20

Sunglass Hut or dept stores are good for trying on lots and working out what shapes you like

I have RL ones and lots of cheap ones from Primark

Meglet Sat 05-Jul-14 09:06:29

Polaroids from TK Maxx. They're perfect for driving. I should get a 'handbag' pair too really.

spritecat Sat 05-Jul-14 10:09:09

Ludways I had a pair of Persol sunglasses made into my vision glasses. They were gorgeous. Then they broke sad.

LovingSummer Sat 05-Jul-14 12:33:08

Where do you all go to try them on?

I have 2 in the car a pair in house all primark my fav car ones are 3 years old and cost 50pence as were in sale

I try them on in the shop

HappyGirlNow Sat 05-Jul-14 13:58:07

John Lewis and other department stores or opticians to try them on..

SocialMediaAddict Sat 05-Jul-14 18:32:46

Rayban Aviators in gold. Third pair. I love them.

MintyFrogsShouldBeLicked Sat 05-Jul-14 18:45:00

Nike Nix in black and tortoiseshell - I love they don't let any light in round the sides. They are permanently a part of my wardrobe as I am particularly sensitive to light, so if not on my face they are on my head summer and winter. Worn this style for years.

I would love to break away and get a different shape but don't want to spend £££'s and then not wear them.

FestiveRoad Sat 05-Jul-14 19:03:18

Leadrightfoot and Apollonia6 can you tell me which model Oakleys you have which let no light in at the sides? I'm looking for some Polarized ones for driving and general use. Thanks!

I recently broke my Vivienne Westwoods <wail>

leadrightfoot Sat 05-Jul-14 19:35:21

Says model 130 but partially worn
The others I CBA To go and seek but look for the all in one lense style it wraps more than others IMHO

Rainydayblues Sat 05-Jul-14 19:49:42

Maui jim - great lenses, low glare...so comfortable. Am tempted to buy a pair of mirrored new style wayfarers but the quality of the lens worries me.

FestiveRoad Sat 05-Jul-14 20:51:43

Ok, thanks lead. Need to get to the shops and try some on I think.

cressetmama Sat 05-Jul-14 21:23:00

Maui Jims fit close on the face and are v comfortable as well as being laid back cool. Also have several/many other pairs bought in sales and at TK Maxx and at opticians, but the Maui Jims get most use. Good for running in particular because they don't bounce around.

umiaisha Sat 05-Jul-14 21:30:28

I wear Rayban Wayfarers in tortoiseshell. I went for the fold up ones as they take up hardly any room in my handbag. Only problem is I lose them at least 5 times a day!!

Chewbecca Sat 05-Jul-14 21:53:44

I have these Ralph Lauren sunglasses that I bought at an airport about 4 years ago after trying on every pair in the store & wear these when I have my contact lenses in.
I also have tortoiseshell Rayban Wayfarers that have prescription lenses in & I chose in the opticians for when I am not wearing my contacts (most of the time)

Wadingthroughsoup Fri 18-Jul-14 09:20:46

HarrySnotter, I bought that exact pair yesterday! Though a tad more expensive- I'm hoping that's just because mine are polarized and those ones maybe aren't?! I love them, really pleased with my choice smile

Chocolou Fri 18-Jul-14 11:26:50

Some lovely ones on here. I've got a roundish shape face. What shape should I be buying? Want to invest

missmartha Fri 18-Jul-14 13:40:12

Rayban Wayfarers, tortoiseshell. I've had them for bout 15 years and still love them.

nipersvest Fri 18-Jul-14 14:30:26

the ones i wear the most cost £3 and came from tesco, but i mistreat my sunnies and just chuck them loose in my handbag. i have a more expensive pair, £3.95 wink of lee cooper ones from sports direct which i also really like as they look really retro.

am going to get a new pair probably from tk maxx as i wear sunglasses all the time otherwise i get headaches.

Abzs Fri 18-Jul-14 16:01:51

Bloc or Julbo. Not particularly stylish and rather outdoorsy, but have proper lenses and side coverage.

They both make everything from top end mountaineering glasses to technical pub sunnies.

Wadingthroughsoup Fri 18-Jul-14 19:28:48

Chocolou, I found that a lot of the online retailers (e.g. sunglass hut) have a search filter for face shape, so that you can search styles most likely to suit you. I, too, have a round face (and quite small) and bought a pair of these yesterday:

polyhymnia Fri 18-Jul-14 19:53:43

Lots of nice ones here.

My problem is that, when I wear contacts I can take my pick, but when, as often, I wear glasses it's not so good. Could have prescription sunglasses but then what happens when I go from the bright sun outside to a dark interior? Light sensitive prescription sunglasses? Possibly a bit weird?

LoveYouDarling Fri 18-Jul-14 19:56:06

Cartier

AwkwardSquad Fri 18-Jul-14 21:00:58

Jil Sander tortoiseshell ones, courtesy of TKMaxx. You need to check the labels for the level of UV protection, they sell a lot that are just level one.

Norfolknway Fri 18-Jul-14 21:04:34

Tortoiseshell Wayfarer's at the mo'

I've had
2 x Chanel
2 x Prada

In the past 10 years - they've all died various deaths but I wouldn't have it any other way. I wear them hard shock

TheRainDrops Fri 18-Jul-14 22:13:40

RayBan Clubmasters, tortoiseshell frames. Had been coveting them for years till DH relented and bought them for my birthday! Totally love them, so classy and classic (yes even if I do say so myself!) grin
