Do you look better naked or dressed?

I don't know if this is a silly question but I look very different naked. I am not fat at all but I am short and carrying a few pounds extra of late. The excess weight is mostly on my bottom but also on my thighs, so much so that my body is very deceiving and I look a million times better when I'm dressed. I am dreading the summer holidays, I don't think even my DH realises how disproportionally fat my thighs are sad.

lurkingaround Mon 16-Jun-14 12:25:45

I look about 100 million times better when dressed! Good god, that's why I don't arrive naked to work! shockgrin. I look average enough in clothes. Without clothes, plenty of lumps and bumps and out of proportion bits. So what. Nowt wrong with it. I bet you look excellent, you're just fed up with the few extra pounds. And I bet your thighs are not disproportionally fat. Don't beat yourself up.

iwantgin Mon 16-Jun-14 12:25:47

I look heftier in clothing - unless it is my lycra running pants and a tight vest.

Apollonia6 Mon 16-Jun-14 12:49:37

Naked, and it's not because I have a perfect figure, far from it. I am short-bodied with long legs and big boobs but have no waist or hips so it's hard to find clothes that flatter my good points whilst hiding the bad.

I would hate to be undressed in front of other people but have never minded DH or previous partners seeing me completely nude, they've not exactly been Brad Pitt themselves...

Apollonia6 Mon 16-Jun-14 12:52:37

Actually OP you are much better off being in your position than mine. Way, way more people see you dressed than undressed. You are only having to show one person (who hopefully loves you just the way you are) whereas I am showing hundreds.

Muddlewitch Mon 16-Jun-14 13:00:52

Definitely dressed. My unclad stomach looks like an elephants bum. That is why I cannot bring myself to date again despite wanting too - I can't imagine letting anyone see it and in clothes you wouldn't guess. Argh!

Poledra Mon 16-Jun-14 13:02:54

I am a goddess when naked usually because I haven't put my glasses on yet

TulipOHare Mon 16-Jun-14 13:15:11

Naked, I think. As long as I'm standing and sucking in a bit grin

Clothes seem to bulk me up, bottom half especially (very curvy pear-shape). I'm a very nice shape but have never really figured out what to wear on my bottom half. Every now and again I luck into a brilliant pair of jeans. Trousers, skirts and dresses all quite problematic hmm

Marylou2 Mon 16-Jun-14 13:23:10

Work your inner Kim Kardashian OP. She's made an entire career around the body shape you describe. Plus I've never heard a man comment on disproportionate thighs. I'm sure a couple of pounds won't make a difference to your DH.Enjoy your holiday.

MrsDiesel Mon 16-Jun-14 13:34:14

Wow I am really surprised at this thread, it never occurred to me that some people look better naked! What an eye opener.

I definitely look better dressed, something to hold my poor well used breasts where they should be and hide my saggy tummy.

Jacksterbear Mon 16-Jun-14 14:18:24

it's hard to find clothes that flatter my good points whilst hiding the bad.

Yep this.

Clothes seem to bulk me up, bottom half especially

And this.

I'm a slim pear shape with a long body and relatively short legs. Have 2x ugly CS scars so not that confident naked but definitely better in a bikini rather than dressed as clothes never seem to fit me.

foxdongle Mon 16-Jun-14 14:18:25

possibly naked from the front - boobs to waist area only.
but from the side below waist definitely 100% dressed- my stomach is iffy and my bottom is too flat.
Definitely my worst feature yet DH thinks it's lovely (sorry I know TMI)
I bet your thighs are fine - I've come to the conclusion that the things that women worry about their bodies - men don't notice or care

TooExtraImmatureCheddar Mon 16-Jun-14 14:36:48

Naked, but I look fairly decent in clothes too. Am 34 weeks pregnant so right now if you saw me naked you would be riveted by either the giant bump or the giant boobs. I quite like my naked pg self - it will be a different story post-partum! This is DC3 so I know what I'm in for.

As for clothes, I look ok in dresses atm. I think weirdly my bump being so big helps the rest of me look slimmer. It's a more flattering look than the middle months of pregnancy when people aren't sure if you're pg or just fat.

Ladyfoxglove Mon 16-Jun-14 14:42:36

How I would love to have fat thighs. So feminine.

I'm a bit overweight but still my thighs don't touch. I look like a man, broad shoulders, no waist and thin legs. Tragic. Thank god for clothes!

MrsWolowitz Mon 16-Jun-14 14:47:25

I look better dressed.

I like my figure (most of it) but I have quite a lot of scars and stretch marks.

pommedeterre Mon 16-Jun-14 16:18:42

Shape wise naked due to big shoulders that I think ruin clothes but I would get all embarrassed by my inability to keep to a waxing schedule that doesn't involve weeks of being hairy. Also have lots of spider veins on legs from anticoagulants.

Currently pg, bump is covered in bruises from injections and boobs are all massive (hate that). As maternity clothes are ick too I am quite excited about being post partum even if I will have to give up cake.

KirstyJC Mon 16-Jun-14 16:21:01

Definitely dressed. Or naked under the duvet with just my hair poking out!

Dresses. Without a doubt. My poor tummy is not a pretty sight after 4 pregnancies. Poor wrinkly, crepey tummy sad

UnderEstherMate Mon 16-Jun-14 16:24:21

I'm very pear shaped. My bottom half and top half look like two completely different bodies! I'm covered in cellulite and my legs literally look like tree trunks. I've learnt to "work my inner Kim Kardashian" as MaryLou said, so for this reason look better in clothes. Unless I'm standing naked in front of a wall mirror.

ReadyToBreak Mon 16-Jun-14 16:57:30

Naked. I look skinny in clothes but curvy out of them.

I also seem to have a flat bum in all trousers but it's very shapely when free :D

Naked. Frankly I have a nice figure naked. Hour glass. Then clothes go on and I'm just a tub of lard it appears. Naked I might be more than I should but it's all still in right places. Dressed it moves, changes. And depresses me.

trikken Mon 16-Jun-14 17:03:10

dressed. I look thin dressed, but naked i look flabby and chubby still. (lost 5 stone in a year)

AWombWithoutARoof Mon 16-Jun-14 17:06:34

I'm a bit iffy either way, but clothes are very slightly better.

MysweetAudrina Mon 16-Jun-14 17:10:12

I feel more attractive naked and more confident naked not sure if I look better though.

SunnySideOfTheStreet Mon 16-Jun-14 17:53:14

I look great both naked and dressed with the lights off smile

Branleuse Mon 16-Jun-14 17:55:32

i look fine naked and fine dressed, but i think dressed is a much more versatile look

MsVanRein Mon 16-Jun-14 18:03:20

I used to look better naked but I think after I had DS I now look better dressed. I haven't really put weight on but my shape has changed.

If I'm entirely honest I would say I currently look my best if one can only see me from the neck up grin

Dressed - I look pretty thin when dressed (especially if in a mini skirt or skinny jeans) but all wobbly and white and horrible naked.

niceupthedance Mon 16-Jun-14 18:18:27

Dressed. Big, saggy boobs look much better with support. Saying that, I am otherwise happy with my figure at the moment.

hoboken Mon 16-Jun-14 18:19:32

Hm, neither good but clothed marginally better

enormouse Mon 16-Jun-14 18:30:33

Dressed. I'm quite slim and in proportion but after 2 DSes in 2 years my stomach looks like an elephants scrotum.

wish I had spent my teens in crop tops

dressed. I'm very overweight for my height (despite losing three stone since november ish time) I hate how my body looks naked still sad

Twinklestein Mon 16-Jun-14 18:36:52

If I'm wearing figure hugging clothes it's about equal. But I do not suit loose, shapeless clothes...

AdeptusMechanicus Mon 16-Jun-14 18:40:44

I Look quite good naked and dressed although i think i look more dashing when dressed.

IWillYeah Mon 16-Jun-14 18:45:37

Dressed I get flattering comments on my figure all the time and 'you look like a model' type big-ups (am tall and slim)

Naked my tits are like two oranges in sacks, I am blue-white scary pale, I have stretchmarks to the degree that it looks like Freddie Kreuger has attacked me and my c-section overhang flops out dramatically when I take off my big knickers.

The power of shapewear, clever dressing and fake tan grin.

wannabeveggie Mon 16-Jun-14 18:51:01

DH likes me naked best grin

I look better dressed .

MrsMarigold Mon 16-Jun-14 18:51:05

I think I look a billion times better dressed. I have moles and cellulite and I just hate my legs and arms with a passion, pale include to look purple and blotchy - apparently I have very good boobs but I think they could be bigger. I would love to look toned and muscular but have zero time to exercise. I think I only look good at 8 stone.

Also had a traumatic experience in a communal changing room with a few friends (none of whom have children) and I saw my friends face and felt like a turd. At the moment I'm a size 10 but look fat without clothes.

Bunbaker Mon 16-Jun-14 18:54:07

Miles better in clothes. I am pear shaped with small boobs. Dressing carefully and with a good padded bra I can create curves that don't exist, and hide my chunky thighs.

Neither, I look at my best by far over the phone.

PickledinGin Mon 16-Jun-14 18:59:09

3 very good sized babies, 3 c-sections, abdominoplasty and hysterectomy all add up to me looking like my bottom half doesn't match the top half. Add to that lovely image, saggy boobs, stretch marks and extra weight and it won't be a surprised to hear I look far better fully clothed!

KirstyJC Mon 16-Jun-14 19:00:03

Oh yes - over the phone is definitely best! I look much taller then too.

Veins Mon 16-Jun-14 19:02:52

Naked. I like my reflection when I'm naked. In clothes I'm not particularly happy with my shape

CarolineKnappShappey Mon 16-Jun-14 19:05:47

I look so much better naked.

Am bit overweight, but all in proportion and have nice skin. So apart from the beginnings of cellulite at 40 I don't look too bad.

However dressed I look very hefty, can't get clothes to fit, and no longer knows what suits me.

iklboo Mon 16-Jun-14 19:07:08

Fully dressed. In an overcoat. Under the duvet. In the dark. Underground.

Antidote Mon 16-Jun-14 19:11:22

I kick ass on the phone.

I think it depends on the clothes. If I've made an effort with work stuff I look ok. With casual stuff I look a shapeless, disheveled mess. I've never got the hang of casual clothes. I blame a long phase of grunge at university. At the weekend I look better naked or in swimwear.

mycatlikestwiglets Mon 16-Jun-14 19:13:25

I'm like you OP, short and with a few pounds to lose but in clothes you can't tell. People are always marvelling at how quickly I lost my baby weight (I was back in size 8 clothes within a month of having DD - now 7mo) but what they don't realise is that my clothes are hiding major cellulite on my thighs, and love handles which I can't get rid of. I'm working hard on toning up though as I'm fed up of being disappointed by my reflection when I get undressed!

TwoInTheMourning Mon 16-Jun-14 19:14:41

iklboo your post made me very sad sad

pommedeterre Mon 16-Jun-14 19:15:15

If dressed I look better in winter clothes - I can never get summer clothes right.

notyummy Mon 16-Jun-14 19:36:18

Naked. Particularly from the front. Not sure about the back view tbh, but I'm not so keen on my rear view clothes either. I work out a lot and think I look ok for getting on to my mid 40s. I am also finally reaping the benefit of small boobs- they haven't sagged.

Best1sWest Mon 16-Jun-14 19:44:35

I've been doing a life drawing class for the last few years and it's been an eye opener. We've had models of varying shape and size, large and small and they've all looked completely different clothed. They were all normal people with flaws and imperfections but my god, the human body is beautiful.

JuanPotatoTwo Mon 16-Jun-14 19:45:05

Neither. Hate what I see when I look in the mirror. So try not to very often. I think if I could work out what shape I am I might be able to dress better. But then I'd have to look in the mirror more.

ouryve Mon 16-Jun-14 19:47:08

I have a lot of stretchmarks and saggy skin. My stretchmarks have stretchmarks. I definitely need to be wrapped up in something flattering to look my best.

That said, DH has no problems with all my saggy and baggy bits. They're just not for public consumption.

Oh god, dressed by far! I've had 2 children reasonably close together and everything is about 4 inches lower. My stomach looks like an accordion. I'm quite good at disguising it all with clothes though.

Pullingteeth Mon 16-Jun-14 19:55:01

I look way better dressed as I've got loads of stretch marks and corn beef skin but my actual figure is a bit drowned in clothes sometimes as I'm petite. Maybe I need a spray tan.

Floisme Mon 16-Jun-14 20:04:44

Dressed or at least in underwear. But not too bad naked, all things considered.

Nulliferous Mon 16-Jun-14 20:12:16

Fucking hell, I'm amazed at the high proportion of posters who think they look better naked.

I look OK naked except for my huge fat tum but it's sooooo much easier to dress well than to achieve the 'perfect body'.

RonaldMcDonald Mon 16-Jun-14 20:19:51

I am gangly, flat arsed and big titted <those suckers ain't what they once were> this can look better dressed than undressed

I am v happy and confident in a bikini for 2+mths a year and/or naked but I can hide my distinct negative arse better in clothing than in a bikini

er...both then

Skinheadmermaid Tue 17-Jun-14 00:36:58

Naked as then you can see my legs are actually muscular and not merely large. Look good in my most flattering outfits as well, mind.

Scarletohello Tue 17-Jun-14 00:41:47

Naked. Have actually been told by lovers I look much slimmer out of clothes! Have huge boobs but long slim legs, no cellulite ( apple shape ) I can easily look frumpy or tarty in clothes, have a very hard figure to dress.

Wrapdress Tue 17-Jun-14 03:49:55

Both. I have a really nice figure and look great with fitted clothes and heels (does anyone look good in oversized frumpy clothes?) but since I am 50 years old, I would pick naked because I still look good naked for 50. Too bad no one sees it but me. I would like to get a few opinions from some hot men....

ChablisChic Tue 17-Jun-14 09:46:27

I used to look better naked as my body was pretty good for my age, and I used to struggle to know how to dress to flatter myself. In the last year or two, though, I've found my style (at last), and at the same time have put on half a stone or so, which seems to have manifested itself as flab and cellulite on my stomach and thighs, which I find desperately unattractive. I'm nearly 60, so I suppose I shouldn't mind too much, but I'm a bit sad about it. Even if I lose a few pounds, the flab seems to stay - my body's finally given up!

kaykayblue Tue 17-Jun-14 13:18:02

At the moment, probably naked? But it changes.

I have a very slim build so if I put on any weight at all it goes directly to my stomach, arse and the backs of my legs and I look like one of those clown things that you can't push over because the weight at the bottom stops it from falling over. And it seems to magically turn directly into cellulite. Strangely, it never, EVER goes to my boobs! hmm. But you can't tell if I'm dressed as I don't wear tight clothes, so at those times I would say dressed.

I put on a few kilograms a while back and stopped doing sport. It was very depressing seeing how much my body changed. Recently I started doing the 30 day shred, and other youtube workout videos, and I've recently started noticing a huge difference in my body, so now I would say naked.

I don't think I've ever changed dress size though. My clothes are either quite loose, fit well, or feel too tight!

One big caveat here is that I have never been pregnant.

Eliza22 Tue 17-Jun-14 15:11:31

Dressed and semi naked. I have a nasty scar from 2 x kidney surgery and my first ever boyfriend commented on it.....I've kept it hidden (knicker-shorts and subdued lighting) since I was 20!

momb Tue 17-Jun-14 15:21:24

I look best on the phone: apparently I have a very attractive voice. Sadly I am a plump matronly sort who looks mumsy dressed and a bit like bagpuss naked.

kinkymouse Tue 17-Jun-14 15:30:54

Naked, I am big busted and clothes either hang making me look huge and matronly or fitted can make me look tarty. Not all my clothes but naked I have a curvy hourglass figure.

BlueKarou Tue 17-Jun-14 16:13:21

Depends on the clothes - I think I look good in some outfits, but awful in others (and those awful ones are usually what I have to wear to work; I definitely suit casual clothes better)

I'm overweight and short, with a few scars (some self-inflicted others not) and not too fussed about depilation, but I don't think I look awful naked. I'm determined to love my body because it's mine, and it could be a lot worse, and hating it simply doesn't help in any way.

naicesex Tue 17-Jun-14 17:33:04

I saw a picture of myself naked recently and I was overwhelmed at how good I looked. It did wonders for my confidence.

I don't own a full length mirror and I wonder if that's contributing to my strange body image ideas. I am loosing weight though - 2 stone down and 4 to go and one of the most amazing things about that is how my body is changing week to week.

So I vote naked grin

naicesex Tue 17-Jun-14 17:35:50

I am a very curvy hourglass too with an arse like a shelf grin

Didactylos Tue 17-Jun-14 17:39:50

dressed, but only if its some sort of burqua.....

Bunbaker Tue 17-Jun-14 18:36:57

Lots of stealth boasts about huge boobs envy

Sunnyfeet Tue 17-Jun-14 18:44:53

I'm quite happy being seen in a bikini or underwear, I think that's a more flattering look than being completely naked. I've never been especially at home with nudity (apart from with DH).

notyummy Tue 17-Jun-14 19:01:08

See I'm the opposite- small booked and proud. Overall it's an advantage to me I think (have led a very active life included military service and am very glad I haven't had to think too much about how to strap anything down!!)

That said, there are some dresses that I don't look as good in as my bigger boobed friends....

Scarletohello Tue 17-Jun-14 19:35:05

Noo they're not stealth boasts about huge boobs, they ate just incredibly hard to dress as most clothes are not cut for them. So many ' fashionable' clothes would look ridiculous on me. Which is why I look better/ slimmer naked.

Scarletohello Tue 17-Jun-14 19:38:24

And personally I'd rather trade a lifetime of back problems, difficulty/ discomfort in exercising, trailing round shops for hours trying to find clothes that are flattering, obscene comments from men in the street, not being taken seriously, not knowing whether a guy liked you or just your boobs, for a more normal shape.

Sunnyfeet Tue 17-Jun-14 19:49:19

I'm far happier with my body since I had my boobs done. I'm 5' 6", slim, with a long legs and small waist, but I had hardly any bust, which made me very self conscious, and I looked like a boy from the waist upwards.

I went from an A cup to a D Cup, they're now totally the right size for my frame, and are exactly what Mother Nature should have provided me with for free! I've been "normalised" if that makes sense?

TwoNoisyBoys Tue 17-Jun-14 19:59:53

Great question Op! Half a stone ago, (possibly closer to 10lbs) I would've said naked....not because I'm lovely by any means, but because clothes do seem to bulk me up, and I looked curvier and more feminine naked. Fairly nice pale skin, stretch marks which have faded quite well...Boobs not bad, curvy bum and thighs which just look fat in clothes! However....since the addition of the above 7-10lbs, definitely clothed, because it seems to have all gone to my stomach (which wasn't great anyway after two pregnancies) but now I wobble, rather than wiggle :/ In saying that, I really don't like myself much either clothed or unclothed!

Calonwyn Tue 17-Jun-14 22:54:22

Naked, I think. I'm pale and a bit fat curvy and I decided a long time ago that I'd make my acres of skin into my secret best feature, so I've always used sunblock, and moisturised. Am probably a bit more Beryl Cook than Reubens, though. An old boyfriend always used to tell me that he liked me with clothes on, but loved the fact I was like a woman from another century as soon as I undressed - that mental image did more for my body confidence than any amount of Spanx. Will always love him for that.

Clothed, I can look dumpy very easily, as I've got short legs and not a small enough waist to get away with the sort of fitted clothes that'd my brain says should suit me. My bum looks much better half-swathed in white sheets that it does rammed into a pair of skinny jeans...

JustWonderingAbout Tue 17-Jun-14 23:09:17

Dressed I'd say. DH would disagree.

naicesex Tue 17-Jun-14 23:24:05

bunbaker Jealous? Moi?

NickiT300 Sat 12-Jul-14 03:50:21

TwoInTheMourning your question caught my attention because almost of all of my friends and family have seen me both ways. This happened when I posed nude for a photo project on the effects of treatment for breast cancer on women's bodies - the idea being to show positive images. I am not sure if I look better one way or the other, but I was surprised by how enthusiastic my friends were about seeing me get naked and also by how relaxed my husband and family were about it. If you or anyone else here are interested, I have written a not too serious story of this at my Breast Cancer Diary - there are some pictures so you can judge for yourself whether I look better naked or dressed.

I suspect that if you can summon up the confidence to take all your clothes off and get away with it, you're probably going to look better with them on.

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 12-Jul-14 05:19:07

When I was younger, naked, I realised the other day that I now look better with clothes on

50ShadesOfSummer Sat 12-Jul-14 06:10:57

Nicki: your blog is fascinating and brave. I'd say you look pretty damn good naked!

As for me, I'd say I look better in clothes, but like JustWondering my DH says better naked - or in skimpy underwear!

GertieFinkle Sat 12-Jul-14 06:35:43

OMG dressed, dressed, dressed! Two sections have left me with a lovely tight scar flabby tummy situation. Plus I am few stone over weight. Clothes don't disguise that but they mask the cellulite a bit. I don't like anyone seeing me naked sad

madmomma Sat 12-Jul-14 10:07:17

Dressed to disguise the rampant gunt issues.

sassytheFIRST Sat 12-Jul-14 10:27:20

Best in.bra and pants/bikini. Large tits need hoiking up away from decent waist but look matronly in of me ok.

WanderingTrolley1 Sat 12-Jul-14 10:32:13

If i had to pick one! I'd go for dressed! I think...

I look better without my glasses on - then I can't see what I look like.

noddyholder Sat 12-Jul-14 11:19:19

Semi naked just knickers I look ok better than dressed

Dontgotosleep Sat 12-Jul-14 11:28:02

I'd say dressed. Although d.p would probably say naked

SorrelForbes Sat 12-Jul-14 12:14:41

Naked. Frankly I have a nice figure naked. Hour glass. Then clothes go on and I'm just a tub of lard it appears. Naked I might be more than I should but it's all still in right places. Dressed it moves, changes. And depresses me.

^^ This. I too am an hour glass and can easily look lumpen and bigger than I am.

Greengardenpixie Sat 12-Jul-14 14:54:05

my dh would say definetly naked ha ha....
but for me thank god for clothes!!! I have sported stretch marks since i was 19 and had my first. They have been with me most of my life and are on my chest, thighs, calves and mostly my tum. It used to upset me until i realised i wasnt alone. As for my figure well its not really that bad. Im slightly overweight but ive not got bad proportions. I am a size 12 and i accept myself more naked than i did. I would not like to go to a nudist beach though!!!

F4ttyBumBum Sat 12-Jul-14 18:58:38

Dressed. Always dressed.

MrsKoala Sat 12-Jul-14 22:29:00

Naked. I am tall and broad with a flat chest, small waist, big bum and long limbs. Finding clothes to fit my shape is difficult (if they fit my hips they hang on my waist, waists are often too high, as are hems, if a dress fits my back it swamps the rest of me - i am a 16 round the back and 10 waist and 14 bum - shoulder seams never reach where my shoulders actually are and arm and leg lengths are always an issue) and i always feel uncomfortable. I would be naked forever if i could be.

I am currently 31wks pregnant and i just love my body like this too. It's lovely <this may be hormones talking tho>

blueshoes Sat 12-Jul-14 23:31:03

I think I look equally good naked or dressed. grin

I am short with petite build. Pear shaped with small boobs, small waist but comely hips. Thighs and upper arms could do with some work and my belly depends on when I had my last big meal but slim overall.

I wear mostly dresses with heels.
