Anyone seen any nice ones?

Gap Ultra Skinny and Mango JAPO - both flattering, stretchy cotton and affordable. Size down, in both, though.

Kbear Mon 14-Apr-14 22:11:01

and when you've found them.. and I've bought them too... tell me what shoes does a person wear with them please?

Don't you just wear court shoes or pointed flats?

46direct Mon 14-Apr-14 22:15:30

Yes! Shoes link please
For me its more summery office related to look smart with broad feet!

46direct Mon 14-Apr-14 22:16:46

Higher comfortable sandals/ smart shoes please

Kbear Mon 14-Apr-14 22:20:55

I'm one of those weirdos who can't walk in flats, I need a heel, but not a stiletto, I need a bouncy wedge type thing. I have to walk for 25 mins when I get off the train... and I want to look stylish whilst doing so... so cigarette pants and something comfy....yet chic.....

46direct Mon 14-Apr-14 22:22:07

Yes! Exactly what I wanted too Kbear!!

I know its a bit bad to do this, but these are the workwear shoes that I have put on Pinterest. www.pinterest.com/workwearedit/workwear-shoes/. The shoes range between flats and heels that are 9cm. All are leather.

For my money, if you get hot feet in summer, I would think about a d'orsay (cut away at the side), as I find sling backs v uncomfortable. Office are doing a d'orsay for £60, called Darling in black or snakeskin.

If you want a classic comfortable court shoe, the Dune Appoint comes in a range of colours and is £65 (leather and leather lined).

However, I have 174 shoes on this board, so hopefully you find something.

Cucumberscarecrow Mon 14-Apr-14 22:40:52

Nice work there Belinda. Lovely shoes. I think I prefer flats with cigarette pants. Hobbs ballet flat looks good as does a nice loafer although the latter probably now smart enough for my work.

Thanks for the trousers recommendation. Are they both fairly smart?

Cucumberscarecrow Mon 14-Apr-14 22:43:12

Just googled the Gap ones and they are lovely. Look great on the website worn with court shoes so you are spot on Belinda.

Thanks cucumber, to be honest, I think the Mango ones are slightly smarter than the Gap ones, as the Mango ones have a finer woven fabric. However, they are both worth trying, I think.

SorrelForbes Mon 14-Apr-14 22:54:31

I've got a pair of Boden Chelsea trousers which I wore to work today with a jacket and black courts. I have worn them with black loafers too.

By the way, if you want a matching blazer, then the Mango SHANGHAI2 trousers are cotton sateen and come with the blazer (£70 in total for both). However, I did slightly prefer the cut of the JAPO trousers. Do a search on Mango using the style names - they have about 5000 stock items to navigate through, otherwise.

46direct Mon 14-Apr-14 22:55:59

Never bought mango
If I am an 8 in next or a 10 in h and m
What size shall I buy?

I'm a 10 in H&M, and for the Mango JAPO, I needed size 8, for Mango SHANGHAI2 I needed 10 (maybe I could have gone down to 8, not sure - they didn't have them), and for the Gap Ultra Skinny trousers I needed 8 (or size 6 if you want them fairly tight eg for going out).

Sorrel - I must go check out the Boden workwear.

SorrelForbes Mon 14-Apr-14 23:19:49

I need to look at the Gap and Mango ones!

25% off with code G2N2

The Boden trousers come in a range of colours that you just don't get at Mango and Gap, and the reviews are very good. If you want a similar range elsewhere, you can also get it in the Banana Republic Hampton trousers.

Thanks for the Boden link, and good night - off to bed.

Cucumberscarecrow Tue 15-Apr-14 07:21:51

Finally found the Mango ones but they seem to be full length. I was hoping for 7/8th length (or slightly shorter as I have short legs). They looked lovely otherwise and the jacket too sad.

Cucumberscarecrow Tue 15-Apr-14 07:23:21

The Boden ones are indeed lovely but have a six week wait for my size.

How about the Banana Republic Hampton ones, in a petite fitting? I just did a post where I tried them on (have also tried the Gap and Mango ones, too).

Just had another thought: the Gap slim cropped ones might work, and the Gap ultra skinnies are cropped too. Else, you could get the Mango ones taken ups. Although the SHANGHAI ones have a cuff at the bottom and the JAPO ones have a slit at the bottom. It all depends on your shape and leg length, doesn't it!?

Legologgo Tue 15-Apr-14 08:24:34

I'm with blinners

jan2014 Tue 15-Apr-14 08:38:42

i actually got lovely ones from new look. all the other styles didn't sit right, i needed a little longer in the leg, quite slim legs and bigger waist and these are perfect, good price, although i don't know how long they will last.

BeginnerSAHM Tue 15-Apr-14 08:51:21

I just bought the banana republic sloane trousers in navy but they do them in black too - these. Fitted me much better than the Hampton ones. I'm a (skinny) pear shape though - I know Belinda is a skinny apple! I'm 5'5'' and went for the petite version (size up!) as I wanted a proper 7/8 length. Worked for me anyway wink.

Legologgo Tue 15-Apr-14 08:52:56

How true to size are they, are they as big as the gap Ones?

Oh yes, I'm an apple getting ever more so. Going for a petite cut at BR is a good idea - I find it often fits me better, especially in the tops.

Slightly off topic - if you are in a BR shop, do keep an eye out for any of the Monogram range silk shirts in the sale. I just bought the black version (they did black and ivory). Stretch silk shirt that's opaque. A rare beast. I had to size down to US 2 - their sizing is ridiculously big.

Btw their current summer shirts are fairly sheer. Annoying.

Re the Hamptons, I found them a poor fit on me - I couldn't do up the size US 2 in petite, but US 4 in regular were a bit big. Maybe I need US 4 in petite, and have the legs taken in. The fabrics and colours were v good.

Legologgo Tue 15-Apr-14 09:18:11

Gorgeous! I just bought a beautiful thick stretch silk shirt
From the Monogram range, in the sale. Would be a fun summer evening to wear it, sleeves rolled up, slightly unbuttoned (channels Simon Cowell) w those shorts and heels!

SinglePringle Tue 15-Apr-14 09:50:22

I have a similar pair of shorts to those lego. Mine are silk, from Reiss last year and have worn them with black stilettos, black silk shirt (undone and sleeves rolled up grin!).

SinglePringle - you go before me. Simon will be so proud of us. I'm not planning on undoing quite so many buttons as my man, Si, though.

Legologgo Tue 15-Apr-14 09:59:47

I always like idea of shorts and heels, and could easily wear it, I just feel like a twat

No, don't feel like that Lego - it's such a good look IMO. Try it! I'm going to do it - getting older and braver (scary thought).

Maybe start w low heels, if unsure?

SinglePringle Tue 15-Apr-14 10:16:45

Do it Lego! Heels and shorts looks awesome, Belinda is quite right.

Am also older and braver!

LaTrucha Tue 15-Apr-14 10:36:12

M&S do a modern slim in cotton sateen for £25 in good colours. The fastenings don't last forever, but I like them. They also do very nasty polyester ones collection of them all here. I also like their 7/8ths trousers. I bet the ankle grazers on the link are quite good if the material is nice.

LaTrucha Tue 15-Apr-14 10:37:36

I like some of the sandals on &otherstories but very different from the lovely ladylike ones linked to above.

BeginnerSAHM Tue 15-Apr-14 11:04:41

Lego - I'm a US 4 (so a UK 8) in the normal sloan trousers and a US 6 (so a UK 10) in petite. Both fit exactly the same round my bottom shock. Assistant said you have to size 'up' in petite. Not sure why - I thought the proportions should just been smaller (ie shorter legs, arms, torso etc!). I agree - Gap and BR have Serious vanity sizing so I was quite upset at being a '6' (UK 10) as am 'normally' a '2' or '4' (UK 6 or 8) - totally ridiculous as am a UK 10 in more normal sized shops.

(Only just become old and brave enough to wear shorts for the first time last summer since I was about 9... With flip flops though! Can't quite do going out ones with heels... Yet wink. Am, weirdly, not so worried about that little bit of fat at the top o the knee that's been then since I hit puberty. In fact, maybe it's decreased in size?)

Stokey Tue 15-Apr-14 11:15:50

LaTrucha it may just be me, but I have just ebayed 2 pairs of & Other Stories shoes that I bought in the sales.

One were chunky black heels that were so heavy I could barely walk and the other were some flat pumps that pinched so badly I went to Clarks in my lunch break and bought some other shoes.

I like the pointy office flats you've linked to Belinda, like some R&B ones I saw recently that were super-pricey and have now sold out. How is the fit on the Office ones?

I have a narrow foot, and Office fit me fine. I am 39.5 and size up to 40. I bought some in 39, once, and they just always felt a bit tight.

Stokey Tue 15-Apr-14 12:12:27

Thanks - will check them out

Cucumberscarecrow Tue 15-Apr-14 12:45:43

Vanity sizing grin. What a great expression! I am the same - US 2 in Gap and Size 8 in the real world. Hence, I love Gap.

I will try the petite in a US 4 if I go for these ones. Must read your other thread re the fit. They look lovely with the tan skinny belt too in the picture.

Just bought some yellow suede ballet pumps from Hobbs in anticipation of my new summer work wardrobe!

Legologgo Tue 15-Apr-14 12:58:01

oh petite Schmetite

Legologgo Tue 15-Apr-14 12:58:29

i LOVE the look. I have the legs
I just fail on The Nerve

Gillybobs Tue 15-Apr-14 13:23:56

I'm obsessed with the Boden Chelsea trousers, I've bought two black one one navy, they are perfect for an apple . BTW I ordered the second black pair when it said 6 week wait, they appeared four days later!

Oh, maybe I should have sized up in the Hampton trousers in the petite. Will try again soon.

Lego - maybe do it w pointed flats, then work your way up to higher heels? And drink booze. That helps my outfit nerve. Drambuie is the best for that.

MrsPeacockDidIt Tue 15-Apr-14 15:55:08

i recently bought these from Banana Republic and got the regular and petite length and the size seemed exactly the same (UK14).

I LOVE them. Really comfy and lovely material.

LaTrucha Tue 15-Apr-14 16:26:53

I havent bought any of those shoes. Good warning. Thanks.

For what it is worth I didnt like the material in the gap trousers.

FoxyHarlow123 Tue 15-Apr-14 18:46:31

I say it ALL the time but River Island cigarette pants are fabulous. www.riverisland.com/women/trousers--leggings/cigarette-trousers/Black-cigarette-pants-651542

magentasurprise Tue 15-Apr-14 18:56:12

Has anyone tried the BR Hampton and the Sloane fit in the cropped trousers?

I wondered what the difference is in the fit.

Legologgo Tue 15-Apr-14 19:09:48

lol at drambuie

id have to wear tartan ones

Legologgo Tue 15-Apr-14 19:09:58

those shorts will be mine
* evil laugh*

We must be due a BR code soon.

BeginnerSAHM Tue 15-Apr-14 20:46:01

There was £20 if you spend £100 but expires yesterday... Sorry... But I bet there is another one soon. Always is!!

BeginnerSAHM Tue 15-Apr-14 20:57:19

I've tried both Sloan and Hampton. The Sloan ones fitted me (pear) better and looked smarter. I think you can get them in various materials but mine are a nice stretch fabric in a tighter weave.

But I don't want to have to spend £100, I just want, say, 30% off [difficult, stroppy consumer]

BeginnerSAHM Tue 15-Apr-14 20:58:47

Yup - I felt the same, then found a jumper I liked too. And a stripy (blue and white) faux wrap top. They'll be a better code soon!!

magentasurprise Tue 15-Apr-14 21:59:15

Many thanks beginnerSAHM!

christinarossetti Wed 16-Apr-14 17:15:17

I want some black cigarette trousers too, but don't have the time for a couple of weeks to go schleping round trying them on.

I'm 5'4", 34 hips, take 28" leg length and have noticed that size 10 trousers now seem to swamp me round the bum.

Any suggestions as to where I might find some for my type of size oh wise ones?

I'm an apple, but with longer legs than 28" - what shape are you? If you are an apple, you might get on with the same trousers I have recommended in the thread.

christinarossetti Wed 16-Apr-14 21:15:40

Thanks. I'm never sure what shape I am, but I'll look at the ones you suggested.
