Where did you get your favourite everyday bag?

I would like a new bag. It needs to be big enough for my purse, keys, phone, a nappy and wipes (though hopefully not for much longer), a few toy cars - you know the usual bits of crap...

I'd like it to be colourful and ideally with a bright / light inner lining (so I can find all my rubbish in it) and not too deep (for same reasons).

I have seen two I like:

Love the pattern, nice shape and size but someone has commented on the fabric cracking... Maybe she was just unlucky?

Also like this one...

If anyone can even suggest places to even look I'd be grateful. My budget is about £50 - £60 ish. Where do I look?

TK Maxx

bigbadbarry Tue 25-Feb-14 14:04:24

Fossil. But you are only going to stay in your budget if you (like me!) handily live near the outlet ;)

vickibee Tue 25-Feb-14 14:04:58

Cath Kidson, huge bag like the one Mary Poppoins had!

ThatBloodyWoman Tue 25-Feb-14 14:05:37

Charity shop.
It's an Animal one.

ProfondoRosso Tue 25-Feb-14 14:10:00

Mine is a Longchamp Le Pliage. It's a wee bit over your budget (I couldn't fecking afford it now), but it has lasted unfailingly since 2011. It's deceptively well-wearing.

noswingpark Tue 25-Feb-14 14:11:19

Tkmaxx its an osprey bag.

Puddles1234 Tue 25-Feb-14 15:00:01

Hermes Birkin in black crocodile. A little over your budget but you could try looking online for a high street dupe as its perfect.

chainedtothedesk Tue 25-Feb-14 15:01:04

Thanks. Haven't tried TK Maxx or Accessorize. Don't think I'd find much in the charity shops near me unfortunately. And no fossil outlet near me as far as I know.

The Longchamp is a bit beyond my budget but does look rather lovely. Would be wasted on the school run though really!

Fat Face. Big, soft brown leather shoulder bag. Big enough for work files and all my crap. Love it.

MrsPeacockDidIt Tue 25-Feb-14 15:13:54

I have the Kath Kidston one in your post and love it. I had a really strict criteria for my everyday bag and this ticked all the boxes, as apart from all the things you need it for I also wanted a wide shoulder strap and an outside pocket for my phone so I'm not scrambling about in the actual bag for it. And it had to fit over the bugaboo handlebar, which it does.

I love it. I've had it since last September and can't see any cracking.

On a day to day basis mine contains: purse, ipad mini, nappies & wipes, toy helicopter, etc. It's plenty big enough without being too big.

ProfondoRosso Tue 25-Feb-14 15:52:05

There are definitely some lovely Fossil bags in the TK Maxx near me (Glasgow). If I were looking for a new bag, I'd love one of them. smile

slug Tue 25-Feb-14 16:46:03

My day to day work bag comes from here

KIPLING- large sizes Alvar across the body bag as well and in a variety of colours, and machine washable to boot. Look at MAZON OR MAYBE QVC

bawabod Tue 25-Feb-14 16:49:24

oops AMAZON that is

Massimo Dutti tan leather.
Enough room for everything and looks perfect despite being thrown around daily for the past 8 months. The leather is so soft you can actually cuddle it confused

Thurlow Tue 25-Feb-14 16:53:48

I love my Nica bag, a nice bright burnt orange colour

In fact now you've got me on their website and eyeing up this

Allthingsprettyreturns Tue 25-Feb-14 17:43:08

Longchamp les pilages

SuperWifeANDMum Tue 25-Feb-14 17:46:20

chainedtothedesk If you like the Longchamp Les Pilage they are only approx £60.00 which is your budget.

Least with the Longchamp its a classic.

bishboschone Tue 25-Feb-14 17:50:34

Large mulberry antony . Can fit loads in and it zips up and goes across the body because I like my stuff to be zipped in !

thesaurusgirl Tue 25-Feb-14 17:54:10

LOL at the Hermes Birkin. If you can afford to spend £12k on a bag, you don't need to carry nappies, because your Norland nanny will be with you.

Another vote for a Pliage, or something a bit posher but via Ebay or a dress agency so you don't weep if you spill something on it.

Wuxiapian Tue 25-Feb-14 17:55:35

A burnt red leather bag I bought in Switzerland.

Or my brown leather Laura Ashley bag with lattice effect to front.

HyvaPaiva Tue 25-Feb-14 17:56:30

Lalla Marrakech Habibi in chocolate brown leather. Bag perfection.

I have three of the www.Miatui.com bags and they're great. They have bright waterproof linings, several inside pockets, a phone pocket, pen slots, an elastic thing with a key hook on so you can put your keys on it, a neoprene bottle holder on the inside (or you can use it for a wet umbrella or just as a general pocket). They also usually come with two separate pouches, one in the same colour as the bag that has a little hand strap on and sometimes a long strap so you can use it as a mini bag if needed and a clear one, both of which are sized to fit in the pockets if needed.

I have two that are called Grace (a pewter and a brown one) and a slightly smaller one that's red and I think is called Matilda Mae. I got the smaller one to try as I was getting so much into the other that it was getting heavy to carry around - and although it doesn't have all the pockets it's still a good everyday bag. THey also do bigger bags but I haven't needed one.

Full price the Grace are about £45 but they have some on the sale at the moment. If you look on their facebook page or twitter they often have discount codes around.

I've been really impressed with mine (hence buying several!) and it's the only bag I've ever had that I've been stopped and asked in the street what it was - on several occasions. Apparently they are thinking of doing a leather one soon so I'm holding out for that next grin.

Have a look at their website - they show what you can get into them on the inside. They're great - and nope, not linked to the company in any way!

FabULouse Tue 25-Feb-14 18:08:38

Nude leather double pocket shoulder bag from Mint Velvet. Fantastic quality leather and goes with everything.

moobaloo Tue 25-Feb-14 18:13:10

Lovely fair trade organic bags here!

MrsDavidBowie Tue 25-Feb-14 18:15:42

Good thread.
I am looking for an everyday bag...I am sick of not being able to find things in the one I have.

Why do they have black linings????????
I want one I can wear across the body and it must be quite big...picked up a black leather one in TK Maxx but it's too small...can't comfortably get big Moleskin diary, purse and makeup bag in,

cloudskitchen Tue 25-Feb-14 22:10:01

zipzap those bags you linked look great and just what I'm after grin

Misssss Tue 25-Feb-14 22:38:09

I've got a couple of Modalu Bristol/Pippa bags. They are expensive new but I bought mine 2nd had from eBay. Lasted well and they have cream coloured linings. You'll pay about £50 for a decent used one on eBay.

MrsBennetsEldest Tue 25-Feb-14 22:43:39

Asda, bag for life but if I'm going somewhere nice I use my Sainsburys one.

bunnymother Wed 26-Feb-14 06:22:28

There are good bags at reasonable prices at Coccinelle and also Marks & Spencer (Autograph). Zara also do some good leather bags. None of these are badged / logoed, which is v important to me.

Hopefully Wed 26-Feb-14 08:07:49

Bicester Village - bought an Anya Hindmarch bag at a massive reduction and have been using it literally every single day for a couple of years now.

JustAnotherYellowBelly Wed 26-Feb-14 08:10:07

Mine's earth squared. I won't use leather and fake leather usually breaks down too fast.
They do different sizes and the lining is truly lovely smile

MrsBryan Wed 26-Feb-14 08:13:25

I have just bought my very first handbag. Its so handy! I wish I'd had one years ago!

Its from M+S I will try and find a link

Oh, it doesnt seem to let me. Its the large satchel bag from the indigo collection. I love it.

sonlypuppyfat Wed 26-Feb-14 08:14:29

I've tons of Kipling bags really strong but light and lovely colours.

bluecheque4595 Wed 26-Feb-14 08:14:38

Urban Outfitters. It is a little brown satchel type handbag and I love it, even though it is a bit scuffed round the edges from use.

chainedtothedesk Wed 26-Feb-14 09:19:00

Thanks for all the suggestions. Will be difficult to work today with so much to google... smile

zipzap Wed 26-Feb-14 10:50:13

cloudskitchen - grin They are great, I can highly recommend (and I have bought a lot of bags over the years, many of which were/are loved, including several significantly more expensive than these). The lady that designs them just seems to have got fed up with never buying a bag that was right, so sat down, decided what was wrong with all the different bags she had come across and then designed her bags from the outside in, making sure that they worked as practical bags before making the outside look nice too. And if you live nearby, you can usually arrange with her to pick up the bags from her house (which is great but dangerous as you invariably see other ones in different colours or shapes that you like... She showed my some of the colours for the summer and there are some lovely ones including a nice soft silvery one and a good everyday cream that wasn't too light or bright).

MrsDavidBowie - if you want an interior that isn't black, the bags I mentioned below (www.miatui.com) have eye-poppingly bright interiors. I have two that have bright pink inside and one that has an electric turquoise inner. And it is much easier to find things inside them when compared to dark interiors! Plus even the small ones you can fit loads into without them becoming massive.

chainedtothedesk Wed 26-Feb-14 11:16:56

Thanks for this ZipZap - a bright interior is a must for me, a black phone or car key are just impossible to find in a black bag, especially at night!

newpup Wed 26-Feb-14 12:08:05

Fossil, I have a couple of Fossil bags and they are great, especially if you like colour. My everyday bag is a Timberland bowling bag, DH bought me 3 years ago. Brown and lovely the leather is still gorgeous even now it is thoroughly worn in. smile

Pannacotta Wed 26-Feb-14 12:38:34

I am also looking, like the Fossil bags I have seen but they are pricey, even used ones on ebay.

zipzap Wed 26-Feb-14 12:49:53

They often have fossil bags in TK Maxx...

QVC Kipling,
One brown, one black.
Largeish with lots of pockets for all my kit & caboodle.

And an M&S tan (pleather) for when I'm having a 'smartish' day.

zipzap those bags are fab!

Pannacotta Wed 26-Feb-14 13:27:51

Thanks zipzap but never seen a Fossil bag in my local TK Maxx and I go there quite a lot!

IamInvisible Wed 26-Feb-14 13:42:37

I love my Zatchels satchel.

zipzap Wed 26-Feb-14 13:49:13

Pannacotta That's a shame - mine went through a stage of getting them in quite regularly. TKMaxx is great when it has what you want but really annoying when you know other people are getting something you want from it but they don't have it at your store!

I had to whizz through yesterday and they had some nice looking Brics bags that were about £50 instead of £100-£160ish, but didn't have time to stop and I bet they will have gone in the next couple of days!
