Late for work! Hello fashionistas.....let's talk clothes even though it's boring January and I'm not spending......

shopafrolic Thu 23-Jan-14 08:14:08

Bloody hell you lot - talk about closing a thread early! Whatever happened to taking it to the last gasp? Although I did like your padding posts Dry.
Morning all.
linus I'm wearing your boyfriends today - they feel completely different to mine. Turns out it's because they have no elastane in them. And when I checked the content on the TroyBoys they're only 70% cotton! Never known that in jeans before...... strange. Anyway, am wearing them with my green Whistles quilted sweatshirt and my new Hudson boots.
DH home tomorrow (at the same time as the inlaws arrive). hmm

shopafrolic Thu 23-Jan-14 08:15:01

We should say continuing on from here

Annianni Thu 23-Jan-14 08:33:05

Morning... Thanks for the new thread Dry.

Annianni Thu 23-Jan-14 08:35:15

Morning... Thanks for the new thread Dry.

Annianni Thu 23-Jan-14 08:35:17

Morning... Thanks for the new thread Dry.

Umlauf Thu 23-Jan-14 08:35:44

Morning :-) I posted right at the end of the last thread so will ask here as well. Does anyone have experience of Lee jeans and their sizing?

shop your sweatshirt sounds nice.

I'm wearing gap boyfriends and an old pj style silk blouse. Huge thunderstorms here so have cancelled all plans and am having hot chocolate with a friend and her new puppy! Hmm on second thoughts changing out of the silk....

Annianni Thu 23-Jan-14 08:50:16

Argh... Why 3 posts?!
I've spoilt the new thread <wail>

Sorry Umlauf, never tried them.
Fab news about your ipad though.

MarshaBrady Thu 23-Jan-14 09:09:54

Thanks for new thread Dry.

Umlauf I haven't tried them. You're right it's great to have two pettys. Any puddles and the old ones go on!

shopafrolic Thu 23-Jan-14 09:14:47

I was going to throw out my old Hudsons and then I saw the rain.......
Anni it's like a multiple post smear across the pristine landscape of Vogue grin
No experience of Lee jeans here either - sorry.

MarshaBrady Thu 23-Jan-14 09:17:44

Good to have back up Shop.

Plus I can't see the stain anymore. Although I was like princess and the pea when dying them. It kept reappearing.

MarshaBrady Thu 23-Jan-14 09:23:24

There's a half price plus another 10% off DvF Zarita dress in burgundy size 8. If anyone fancies it. Won't link, can't do pin as out but pm me and I'll send it.

Stokey Thu 23-Jan-14 09:56:13

Thanks for new thread Dry - loving the Lanvin bag you linked to ... maybe if I get a bonus & ignore the fact we're meant to be saving for the extension...

Good to hear your ipad is back Umlauf

Ooh another DvF dress Marsha , just got refund from the two I sent back to Matches and pay day tomorrow - wonder if there is anything in my size

I'm wearing new Phillip Lim skirt - sales bargain which I love for dinner with the girls tonight

noviceoftheday Thu 23-Jan-14 10:08:38

Crack team of movers are downstairs packing, the cleaners are in new house working their magic, my window cleaners are doing inside and outside house, my nanny is cooking, dh is at work, dcs are at school and nursery and I am mumsnetting.grin bet the lurkers are thinking lazy cow

Annianni Thu 23-Jan-14 10:31:17

Good luck Novice.
I despise moving, it's so stressful!

LinusDKD Thu 23-Jan-14 10:35:20

Hope the move goes well novice!

umlauf good news about the ipad!

marsha shame the Zarita is in burgundy otherwise I might be interested.

shop that's what I liked about my Jimmies, the oldfashioned denim feel without any stretch.

My bargain black Paige Verdugo superskinnies have arrived and they are lovely. It was a bit of a struggle to close the button but they fit really well otherwise so I finally have some black jeans again.

LinusDKD Thu 23-Jan-14 10:49:24

Forgot to say that today DS asked me what those stripes between my eyebrows were. hmm

I explained they were wrinkles and when he asked me why I had them I told him it's because I was getting a bit older and having to nag and frown at him on a daily basis

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Thu 23-Jan-14 10:56:20

I started reading Gone Girl last night and was hooked so missed the end of vol 31 grin

Umlauf sorry have never tried Lee jeans, but that's great about your ipad.

Marsha what colour did you dye the boots?

FYI Zarita lovers, it comes up large - I am a large UK10 and bought a US4 which I assume is what they call UK8. Fitted me fine before Xmas (not sure whether it would now...!) They are also quite loose on the arms unless you size down.

My DNKY bargain top from NAP has arrived but won't be able to try on until tonight.

shopafrolic Thu 23-Jan-14 12:42:12

Atterley Road returns process is rubbish. DHL delivered my Ganni jumper back to them on the 17/01. They still haven't confirmed receipt and just told me that they have a backlog and their website says it can take up to 21 days for a refund and I should call back after that time - awful!

MarshaBrady Thu 23-Jan-14 12:55:17

Blair I chose black, as they only had black and brown and I was worried about the non-fashiony element of off the shelf mid-brown! Black is black.

Shop boo for bad returns.

Linus good one.

Novice close!

Decameron Thu 23-Jan-14 13:22:54

Atterley Road returns are pants. My order was delivered to them on 10/01 and I got the same email last week when I asked about my refund. Will avoid next time.

Hope you are feeling better today, Liberty.

Cool boots, Shop.

Good the move is going well, Novice.

shopafrolic Thu 23-Jan-14 14:35:48

Yup Decam shite photography, inaccurate colours and now this refund issue has put me right off using them.

On the plus side - my dresses have arrived!

shopafrolic Thu 23-Jan-14 15:14:07

I've found MY dress!

libertychick Thu 23-Jan-14 15:23:12

Yay, more dresses for Shop
I am feeling better today thanks Decam. Period has finally started. How can such a normal process leave me so wiped out????

I am waiting for a returns confirmation from Atterley Road too. I'm not going to use them again either. Last year in April I did an order one night and then regretted it the next morning (as you do!) so I phoned them less than 12 hours after ordering to cancel it. They said that was fine. 4 weeks later when I was looking at my credit card bill I saw a £230 debit for Atterley Rd and no refund!!!! I rang them up and they said they had forgotton to do it. Took another 2 weeks for the money to come back in - should have learned my lesson then!

libertychick Thu 23-Jan-14 15:24:29

x post shop - exciting - have you pinned a pic? <runs off to see>

shopafrolic Thu 23-Jan-14 15:25:06

Pics up now

Decameron Thu 23-Jan-14 15:46:20

The dress is beautiful, Shop.

Atterley Rd are very slow to deliver too. However, I do really like the shirt I kept from the order.

Got new jeans, highly recommend! The turn ups look good with ankle boots.

Annianni Thu 23-Jan-14 15:53:20

I went off Atterley Road last year, when they didn't bother replying to an email about my Ash Virgos (they looked like they were starting to split on one edge)

Saying that, I'm still waiting for a reply to an email I sent Matches last week <sigh>

Recently NaP have been the quickest at acknowledging returns etc.

Annianni Thu 23-Jan-14 15:54:17

Shop, you look fab. I have leg envy!

Decameron Thu 23-Jan-14 15:54:59

Matches didn't respond to my emails until I phoned them. Maybe they get a huge number of emails but still not great.

MarshaBrady Thu 23-Jan-14 16:20:23

Shop the dress looks great!

Decam fab jeans.

You're all making me feel grateful I ordered just the Ash ballet flats from Atterley Rd. They did take a while to turn up.

libertychick Thu 23-Jan-14 16:32:51

Great jeans Decam. What's the sizing like?

2 pages already! shock

Quick trip into town. Comedy trip. Cut through M and S, H and M and TKMaxx..........purposefully looking straight ahead, clutching my boring list of essentials including a ball of string hmm my life is WILD I tell you

"not looking, not looking, I'm being strong....Gucci bag,Gucci bag".....oops "that's a nice skirt" stop reverse , feel sick, look at item, "no no no be strong....think Gucci" ......the whole way,

Took bloody ages, was soooooo close to cracking........"NO MORE CRAP!!!"

Came home with......

A ball of string
A pint Of skimmed milk
6 eggs
Posh soup and posh bread for posh friend who I'd forgotten was coming for lunch tomorrow.

It was tough, it's a first, it's BORING.......I'm addicted I think.sad grin

Turquoiseblue Thu 23-Jan-14 17:05:14

grin Dry.
Be strong....
Happy new home novice.
I find AR returns really slow too- and delivery. But I assumed it was because I was outside the uk.
Still like their stuff though.

Umlauf Thu 23-Jan-14 17:18:20

I like Atterley road, any company that delivers abroad for free is a winner for me! And they send things in such pretty packaging. I've not had to return anything yet though....

LinusDKD Thu 23-Jan-14 17:24:08

I used to like Atterley Road until they sent the wrong colour scarf to DMIL for Christmas.

Then it took them ages to respond saying the picture on the website was the wrong one (no shit Sherlock) and that the colour I wanted was OOS so all I could get was a refund if I sent the scarf back. Too much hassle for DMIL so she decided to keep the other scarf.

Decameron Thu 23-Jan-14 18:37:20

True to size, Liberty.

Well done Dry, you'll be toting the Gucci around before you know it!

Annianni Thu 23-Jan-14 19:37:11

Well done Dry.

Lovely jeans Decam.

Shop, I've pinned another dress. It's in various colours.

Annianni Thu 23-Jan-14 19:38:59

Dry, add up how much you would have spent today, then put that to one side towards the bag! grin

Turquoiseblue Thu 23-Jan-14 19:41:58

Shop - have you looked at sandro for a dress ? They have some lovely ones on sale too at the moment in our local store I might have picked up some jeans and a top too

shopafrolic Thu 23-Jan-14 20:26:08

Thanks Anni for the dress pin, and thanks all for the lovely comments about my legs. I find it scary wearing skirts and dresses but will try and be braver. Will keep my eyes open for a more casual dress, crew neck, long sleeved, shorter skirt - needs to be lined or thicker jersey I think. That or a skirt like the Me&em. Not sure what I'd wear it with.... hmm
DH back tomorrow - cannot wait. Not least because the Madewells arrive too! <shallow>
novice how's it going?
Decam nice jeans

Anni you're absolutely right....I kid myself that I don't spend a lot on clothes because each item isn't necessarily expensive, but a lot of little bits add up to a lot. Like my cash point theory....I used to take only £20 out thinking it would curb my spending hmm just ended up going to the cash point more oftengrin..... I really am crap.confused

shopafrolic Thu 23-Jan-14 20:30:54

Oh and Dry sooooooo well done lovely. You can do it. The Gucci will be yours. I reckon you could have it within the next 6 weeks grin

shopafrolic Thu 23-Jan-14 20:34:31

turquoise I can't see a UK online stockist for Sandro?

LinusDKD Thu 23-Jan-14 20:43:10

dry hang in there and think of all the stroking of the Gucci leather wink you will be able to do!

shop you must be so relieved DH is back tomorrow!
Mine is traveling again next week for at least 2 nights. sad

Good luck with the swimming lesson tomorrow! Deep breaths and keep your stash of animals ready!

Yup I reckon so too Shop but.......I apparently agreed to take dd and her friend shopping on Saturday , may mooch in Matches they may have it in stock and I will certainly crack if I see it and just stick it on Visa grin........think I may need to find an art gallery or go to a coffee shop with a big newspaper!!!!!

And shop have you got the turtle ready? Dying to know if it

shopafrolic Thu 23-Jan-14 20:52:48

I've got turtle ready yes. I'm really anxious, I was so upset and embarrassed last week! Was thinking, knowing how DS is that rather than saying "if you're quiet I'll give you a surprise treat" etc, that I'll say "you did so well in swimming today that you can have this". And then if he carries on tantruming I'll say he can't have it anymore?

Sound good Shop at his age he perhaps won't understand "If you don't ...then you can have", little kids don't do the future do they? And it's kind of negative. Your way, you're praising him and rewarding him for his brilliant swimming....much more positive. Hope it works, it's so hard smile

At first glance I though this was a bit bonkers! but actually think it's quite a brilliant idea.

Today I saw a lady wearing white skinny jeans, tucked into brown mid calf boots, with a neutral top. All £££ I'd imagine judging by the bling. I've always thought white jeans a summer item, likely to get muddy in winter, but they can look expensive .......what are your views on white jeans in winter? Naff or nice?

Annianni Thu 23-Jan-14 21:35:21

Dry I think Cos have done collars like that before.

Which Matches are you going to?
I didn't think there were any up here...
Or are you going to London and i've missed a post?

shopafrolic Thu 23-Jan-14 21:38:10

Depends how you style them Dry
love this
and EA
Marsha had a Pin of the Voguettes last year sometime all in white jeans but I can't find it.....

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Thu 23-Jan-14 21:44:57

Dry I like the idea of those collars. Hate shirts - they restrict movement and need ironing.
Stay strong on the Gucci! smile

Not sure about white jeans in winter. Those pins are cool, the contrast does make them look good. Maybe if you're driving everywhere.

I forgot to bring home my parcel from work so can't try on new top. Annoying!

MarshaBrady Thu 23-Jan-14 21:45:11

I say nice! Will try and find the pin.

Great stuff in the Other Stories sale. I'm itching to get a few things but am having a break.

Anni has Leeds closed down?!!!!!

FLANNELS!!!! It's the trauma from my rubbish shopping trip today.....

Annianni Thu 23-Jan-14 21:50:20

I wondered if you meant Flannels!!!
Is there a shop called Cruise too?

grin I was planning a trip over at the weekend then!

Annianni Thu 23-Jan-14 21:51:11

Is HN still there too?
They might have your bag.

Yes it most definitely is...will check it out.

MarshaBrady Thu 23-Jan-14 22:08:22

I love Crazy, Stupid Love and Ryan Gosling is hot. One of my fave movies.

Marsha is that a random post? ....but coincidentally I have the blu ray of Crazy Stupid love waiting from Love film, only my DVD player has gone to be mended sad v frustrating.

Ooooh may have just struck a master stroke.
DH called to say he'll be late back, taking colleague for a pint because they've had a bad day at work, I know her well and she loves a nice bag, I said "tell her about my crap shopping trip and about the bag I'm saving up for, that'll cheer her up"
DH "send a pic"...........took 2 seconds hoping she might do some magic!

MarshaBrady Thu 23-Jan-14 22:21:15

It was a bit! grin Am watching it now. I find him so good looking in it.

Loved The Notebook

LinusDKD Fri 24-Jan-14 07:38:51

I do like white jeans in winter, but more E. Alt stylee than Liz Hurley.

Not brave enough careful enough to wear them myself in winter but am looking forward to wearing my white Baxters in S/S

dry that was a good move! Do you think DH will take the hint?

Wearing the usual SAHM uniform today: black Verdugo super skinnies, white Splendid tee, bikers and new DvF scarf.

Oh and I ripped off one of the buttons on my Moncler coat when it got caught in the shopping trolley. It has left a small hole and it will be tricky to sew on the button as it seems it was sewn on before the down and lining was put in (if that makes sense)

Good luck today shop!

MarshaBrady Fri 24-Jan-14 09:01:18

E Alt is fab Linus.

Good luck today Shop. We go swimming now every Monday and Friday. Last time we had the whole small pool to ourselves. It was very nice.

Annianni Fri 24-Jan-14 09:42:33

Good luck today Shop.

Hope your coat is fixable Linus.

I can't ever wear white jeans, i'm too clumsy and fat

Just done a fast 10 miles on the bike.
Desperately need a shower but Ds2 says I have to watch ice age with him first.

I thoroughly recommend the gap crop top sports bras though, they're really comfy.

There's 25% off gap online today (code on their homepage) and 20% off tomorrow.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Fri 24-Jan-14 10:27:54

Love Ryan G.

Linus hope your coat is OK. I'm always catching coat buttons on baskets in the supermarket.

Shop hope swimming is fun today.

Thinking of trying white jeans with navy top and coat and tan monk shoes, but not sure when, need a mild dry day.

Does anyone else find "related pins" in your pinterest feed annoying? Now I'm following a lot more people I wish I could filter them out. There are just too many.

MarshaBrady Fri 24-Jan-14 10:29:09

Very annoying! I changed my settings with everything to off and I still get them. And they are really not to my taste at all.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Fri 24-Jan-14 10:33:23

Yes Marsha! I thought for ages that Pinterest was just broken, then googled it and it's an actual change and you can't turn them off. I get loads in the morning when no one I'm following has pinned anything for a few hours grin

Umlauf Fri 24-Jan-14 11:00:00

Good luck shop I hope the turtle works!!

dry I'm not brave enough for white jeans in winter! not really brave enough for summer either but I plan on trying this summer. Probably with baxters as I have £100 in topshop vouchers to use up.

I weighed myself this morning for the first time in ages and I've lost 20lbs since the end of October. I'm not my target weight yet (my scales are very kind to me and I don't know how far they are out!) but regardless I'm surprised by the loss and very pleased grin

I feel a bit guilty, as I complained to boden about their trousers stretching with wear and going baggy, and they've replaced them for me with a smaller size, but actually I think I've just gotten smaller blush Cracking customer service though and they've definitely gained a customer for long term in case they're reading!!

WhattoWearNow Fri 24-Jan-14 12:05:11

Hi everyone - am very impressed with the lack of shopping at the moment especially as there are some great bargains to be had! Am trying to be good & channelling Dry but there are some things tempting me (but the credit card is in the freezer!)....
lovely coat
another one
Nice dress
Another one
And another
One more
Useful Shirt
Useful skirt
Useful jeans
Have lovely weekends all.

WhattoWearNow Fri 24-Jan-14 12:07:32

PS These are very Marant like & only £59!!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman Fri 24-Jan-14 13:25:46

I'm not even opening those links What. I'm trying and failing so hard to be good. I did just buy DH a Paul Smith tie from Selfridges for his upcoming bday. He had a very similar one before, but swapped it while drunkenly partying with the Black Caviar people at Royal Ascot a couple of years back. I was giving him the dead eye, but the Aussie bloke was v keen and DH just caved - I've been two sodding years trying to find one like it because he instantly regretted it (once he'd sobered up, anyway).

I'm just off to ring Longchamp to see if they have 'my' bag anywhere - wish me luck!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman Fri 24-Jan-14 13:37:58

Sold out everywhere - Aaaargh!

However, helpful girl at the Westfield store told me they are due back in stock in March (just in time for the new turf season wink).

They bloody better had be. <grrr>

shopafrolic Fri 24-Jan-14 14:51:10

Quick wave to all as inlaws have arrived, DH back and birthday party weekend commences. Swimming was better, at least in the changing rooms, although still a nightmare to get into his car seat. But definitely better so thanks all. The turtle was a big hit Dry - I think the other mums are probably cursing me though!
Madewell flats are perfect, great fit, really soft leather and cushiony insoles. smile

shopafrolic Fri 24-Jan-14 14:53:03

Meant to say pic on Pin.
Grumpy hope you get the bag eventually. We'll all keep our eyes peeled I'm sure.
I don't dare open any links as I must not spend anything else for quite some time.

Yey shop turtle power!grin Now which creature next week? Hope all goes well with your visitors.
Grumpy you WILL get the bag, can you reserve one?
What don't think anyone has channelled ME before, feel quite special grin
Novice still alive? Or are you in a box somewhere?

LinusDKD Fri 24-Jan-14 15:38:45

shop and shopjr well done!

grumpy if you are really keen I can get that bag for you in town and send it to you.

The Chinti and Parker sale dress from NaP has arrived (had it sent to DMIL and due to unforseen circumstances she's only managed to mail it to me now) and I am a bit unsure about it.

Great colour, great fabric but the dress makes me look a bit 'hip-y' (and it's a Small so lucky I didn't go for a Medium)

I will try it on this weekend with opaques and Jalouses and see if that looks better than pasty white legs and no shoes.

Oh and my Equipment shirt has arrived and is lovely. Not a dark navy but a colour called peacoat which is a kind of dirty navy. Now I have three Equipment shirts and very little opportunity to wear them blush

Annianni Fri 24-Jan-14 16:18:06

Fab shoes Shop.
And glad swimming went ok.

Hope you find the bag Grumpy.
I can look in Trafford Selfridges next time I go if you want?
Which one is it? I remember something about a horse...

Where's Queenc gone?

Annianni Fri 24-Jan-14 16:20:11

Linus can you not wear the shirts during the day with jeans?
Or did you want to keep them for evenings?

Shop has dh seen The Dress yet?

LinusDKD Fri 24-Jan-14 17:19:28

anni I would love to wear those shirts during the day but with a 3 year old and a 15 month old baby it would be asking for trouble.

Maybe on nursery days but then I would have to change when I get back home from dropping them off and that's such a hassle.

Unless I do the nursery run in my dressing gown wink

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Fri 24-Jan-14 17:29:52

Yay, weekend!

I'm beginning to think those M&S flowery shoes don't exist as I went to another (huge) M&S after work and no sign of them hmm

Also had a funny conversation with a random woman in there. I was looking at a top that happened to be quite boxy and she was saying it would look best with skinny jeans or something. The conversation ended thus:
Her: We can't all get away with leggings though, I do think you have to be very young and trim.
Me: Yeah, they're really for teenagers. I can't get away with them either.
Her: No.

Just tried on my DKNY sale top from NAP here. It's more neony orange than the pic. Still a lovely colour though and fits nicely, so keeping it, will be nice for work when it gets a bit warmer.

Shop love the shoes, glad they're all you dreamed of smile

Blair MNV got me into orange last summer big time! Love the top.

I need help.........going to a Burns Night party tomorrow hosted by friends who own hotels and have everything, but really nice and absolutely don't expect gifts. What the heck do I take?
At previous parties their kitchen has looked like a florist, so flowers, always lovely IMO aren't a great idea. Because of his work and she doesn't really drink booze and food are out of the question. HELP!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Fri 24-Jan-14 17:48:52

Tough one Dry. The only thing I can think of is a nice candle maybe?

Annianni Fri 24-Jan-14 17:56:40

Was going to suggest a smelly candle Dry or nice chocs or nice fizz?

Annianni Fri 24-Jan-14 17:58:52

Maybe not the best idea then Linus grin

Fedupnagging Fri 24-Jan-14 18:08:43

I have sat down with a glass of wine ready to check out all the links I've missed since weds- iPad is playing up and the links are not loading. Am a bit miffed.

Dry How about a candle or reed diffuser for the hostess gift -nice ones obviouslygrin. Am v impressed with your shopping trip yesterday.

Shop glad the swimming was better today.
Anni hope your move is going ok; you sound mega organised.
Blair shock at the leggings comment

Am heading into London tomorrow and hope to have time to pop into Liberties and Selfridges. I suspect DH won't be at all keen though.

shopafrolic Fri 24-Jan-14 18:16:25

Candle Dry
I haven't owned up to the dress yet x

Umlauf Fri 24-Jan-14 18:17:41

Blair I'm at the tailor with my Marrakeshes, a fiver it's costing! Kicking myself for not doing it earlier as I don't think ill wear them in the torrential rain that's forecasted for all yearshock

Hi everyone, quick hi and I also wanted to ask, if anyone is planning splurging in Whistles anytime soon, I have a gift card burning a hole in my wallet, really irritating me now cause I can never find anything in there that I really like. It's for £172 but I'll take a reasonable offer and post it to you, PM me I just know I'll love something in there a week after I post it hmm. It's still valid for at least a year btw (started with 2 years).

Oh and I had a new and shocking experience today...I spent two hours in Selfridges and came out cash positive shock....<lies down and checks temperature>

It may have been the horror of picking up an admittedly beautiful Balenciaga bag and clocking the £4,950 price tag that sent me into a tailspin....shock...

Sleep I feel your pain grin
shop I'm sure Mrshop won't complain when he sees it on wink
Yes, was wondering about a candle....I love them.

LinusDKD Fri 24-Jan-14 18:34:01

Yikes sleep that is £££

I googled the price for that cobalt Céline hobo bag I am lusting after and had to go for a little lie down afterwards. The price was in USD and I think they are 'cheaper' in Europe, but still.

dry how about those slate placemats you got a while back? Or those lovely personalised wooden serving boards mig linked a while back?

Scratch that, just saw the party is tomorrow so maybe too last minute.

Personalised wooden board is a fab idea for another time though when I'm more organised

Btw ...I'm easy to buy for.....booze and flowers always do the job!

LinusDKD Fri 24-Jan-14 18:42:40

On the more affordable bag front, I really like the Gap bag Le Catch wrote about today.

She prefers the nude but I really like both shades of blue:

Now if only I lived in a country where they had Gap shops....

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Fri 24-Jan-14 18:42:48

Which Balenciaga sleep? Maybe that is a tactic for the future to avoid spending money, head straight to the £££ bags... or maybe not wink

Umlauf that's very cheap but oh no about the weather! At least they'll be done for when you can wear them. Hopefully the forecast is wrong! I have found 2 places that I could take mine to (never used a tailor, don't want to take them to bog standard dry cleaner) and it's either £8 in someone's house or £20 in a proper place.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Fri 24-Jan-14 18:44:59

Meant to say, what on earth is this?!

noviceoftheday Fri 24-Jan-14 18:45:30

I may name change after this. The removal man found errrm our "toys" because something started buzzing.

LinusDKD Fri 24-Jan-14 18:51:41

Hahahahaha novice!

Classic mistake! One should always move fragile stuff, hairlooms and ahem 'personal items' oneself!

If it's any consolation, I bet he has seen it all in his line of work.

I know, it used to cost me 20 pounds when I piled in England, that was why id put it off so long. She's finished them already, while I did my food shopgrin I shall dance around the house in them tomorrow.

shock 7novice* but he will probably have seen worse

LinusDKD Fri 24-Jan-14 19:02:19

'Heirlooms' not Hairlooms. Sigh.

shopafrolic Fri 24-Jan-14 19:15:27

novice hilarious! When my flat burnt down I left the wreckage with my toys because the fireman said the insurance company would clear the place out so best to remove anything too 'personal'. He ended his sentence saying "buzzzzzzzzzzz" and winked at me! grin

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Fri 24-Jan-14 19:16:18

OMG novice, love it! Did you give them an extra large tip for that?! wink

OMG Novice I too would have died of shame and embarrassment!

grin @ Novice! Reminds me of a thread on here (I think) where someone's DS had a friend over and she found them shooting each other with the 'guns' they found in her bedside table grin

Blair I think it was the papier but was blue and what I assume must have been python skin hmm

noviceoftheday Fri 24-Jan-14 19:54:14

There is a twist to this story that is related to s&b.blush

So I thought I had carefully hid them.....

In one of my handbags because I never thought they would go in there. Because I never thought they would go in my bloody handbag.

If I give you my address will one of you please come over and put me out of my misery?!blush

noviceoftheday Fri 24-Jan-14 19:55:29

Shop, your story kind of makes me feel better in that kindred horrified way!

By taking your handbags away? I'm in the car heading SE now.....grin, didn't hide any diamonds in there too did you wink?

MarshaBrady Fri 24-Jan-14 19:58:45

Oh Novice. I suppose it's better than taking handbag to work and forgetting until a meeting.. wink grin

LinusDKD Fri 24-Jan-14 19:59:38

Now novice that is proper bagporn!

Which handbag? <nosy>

shopafrolic Fri 24-Jan-14 20:05:32

To be fair, if a handbag was buzzing I'd probably look too. Note to self <remove batteries next time>

noviceoftheday Fri 24-Jan-14 20:08:36

grin at you all! I could never have this conversation in rl.

Linus, it was my Aspinal Boston coach. It's like a bowler bag. Roomy I thought!

I guess it's an interesting end to a stressful day! But still....blush

Annianni Fri 24-Jan-14 20:10:28

Ha ha Novice grin
Rookie mistake!
either remove the batteries too just incase, or just buy things that are powered by the mains

My boxes of tricks were put in my car, along with my jewellery on moving day.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Fri 24-Jan-14 20:16:38

sleep mmm gorgeous bag! The yellow is nice too. But yes python is a bit sad.

shopafrolic Fri 24-Jan-14 20:17:46

Novice I just read this story to MIL who is LOLing. <thanks God MIL hasn't any similar tales to add!>

My MIL mentioned once that she has nightmares about her kids going through her bedroom if she ever just dropped dead...I didn't like to ask exactly why but I don't think she was worried about them seeing her pants! I changed the subject quite quickly grin

justasecond Fri 24-Jan-14 20:44:16

shock grin Novice! Poor you! At least you will never see him again after the move.
Blair Those chap trousery thing are awful, I wonder who would buy those? Although I reckon even I could run up a pair with my new found sewing non skills. Would be keen to hear what you think of the m&s floral shoes if you ever see them. I wonder if they are one of those half decent/interesting things they make but are never seen other than in a magazine.
Shop gorgeous shoes, love them.
I decided to keep the smaller pair of hudson boots as the ones that fitted made my feet look big. I have been wearing them at home to wear them in a bit as the leather is quite stiff. Bit annoyed that I will have to get the soles rubberized though.
Other than boots all quiet on the shopping front for once...

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Fri 24-Jan-14 21:03:36

I will justa!

Are these the most Pistol-y Pistol rip off ever? I thought AR had started selling acne for a moment. Nearly out of stock too!

justasecond Fri 24-Jan-14 21:11:48

Ooh I do like those Blair although I suspect a little too high for me. If only they did a rip off of my fave pistols, black with brown heel and sole.

Blaire I'm sure EveWornout has a pair of those chap style jeans hmm

Novice fantastic grin grin grin hope it was your Nancy!!!grin

Hey Novice I bet the conversation in the removal van was positively stimulating grin grin

Dh who was really looking forward to christening the new house is fast asleep and snoring (he never snores!)

MarshaBrady Fri 24-Jan-14 22:23:22

Novice don't worry it's an ace confession.

So, how's the new house?

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Fri 24-Jan-14 22:35:34

Proper lol at Dry's puns!

And it was more about the rips on the chaps jeans - they're practically destroyed!

Just watched ep1 of Breaking Bad. Will probably soon be hooked. Anyone else already watched them all?

DH and I have the finale left to go, we will be bereft after that Blair! Real hook is at about ep4.

Dh's birthday this week so we shall be indulging sans dc somewhere. Nice!

Annianni Sat 25-Jan-14 09:02:53

Amber shock grin

Happy birthday to MrM.

I have an action packed day planned of biking, a fringe trim at the hairdressers and amusing the ds's whilst dh carrys on stripping the hall. <rock and roll>

Umlauf Sat 25-Jan-14 09:09:15

Happy birthday mrM, hope you have a lovely day Marsha

Were going to look round a school today shock for baby ds. Schools here go from 0-16 so I'm not being super organised or anything! Hoping to go back to work in September as I'm getting cabin fever a bit!

Sounds lovely Marsha .
Me? After a quiet (and dry) January it all starts off tonight with the Burns Night party then a shopping trip with DD tomorrow.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman Sat 25-Jan-14 09:31:54

Linus, you wonderful woman, have PMd you

Stokey Sat 25-Jan-14 09:41:46

Very funny Novice - Moving is so fraught with dangers!

Missed my denim appt on Thursday as bumped into a friend while walking up Saville Row & just had to duck into a pub for a couple of G&Ts before dinner. Have rescheduled for Tuesday.

Had an amazing night out with my old school friends, one of whom was wearing this Kenzo dress envy
Looked amazing on, still haven't been paid but am wondering if I can just credit card it... sales bargain right?

BecauseIsaidS0 Sat 25-Jan-14 10:49:44

Morning, ladies!

Novice, I've just burst out laughing in the middle of getting my hair done! My lovely hairdresser now thinks I'm nuts.

It's Saturday morning and my only plans are getting my roots done and grocery shopping. Yet I'm wearing bright red lipstick (Hourglass Icon). Sometimes you just have to.

MarshaBrady Sat 25-Jan-14 11:56:14

Sounds great Because!

I finally got some leggings for running <cheapskate> and it's blinking 12 degrees and sunny <hot>.

MarshaBrady Sat 25-Jan-14 12:08:17

I'm glad now I didn't buy the fur-lined boots I was looking for at the beginning of winter. Perhaps those we're going to have the worst weather yet are press statements from timberland etc

Stokey that looks great. Worth a try?

Annianni Sat 25-Jan-14 12:34:02

I wouldn't count my blessings yet Marsha, we've had snow on Ds1's birthday before (which is next week) and in the following weeks after.
my baby is going to be 10 oh my god, i'm getting old!!!

Pins... You know where... Brand Alley shoes have arrived and there's a slight problem!

MarshaBrady Sat 25-Jan-14 12:39:53

Oh yes we have a photo of ds on his 3rd birthday with snow all around. His birthday is in April!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman Sat 25-Jan-14 13:37:53

One of my mares was due to foal in March last year, but held onto it for three weeks more because the weather turned to severe snow (horses do this). Plus I bought some Sperry Shearwaters this year and want the chance to wear them

Anni don't feel old. My youngest is 10, her sister is 19 shock. I know, I don't look old enough wink

Annianni Sat 25-Jan-14 14:17:42

Poor horses Grumpy shock I wouldn't fancy another 3 weeks!

So... You got married at 16? wink

Umlauf Sat 25-Jan-14 14:26:35

In the Easter holidays last year I was driving up from Andalusia and there was snow on the ground.

Snow always sneaks up on us in Feb up here, normally when I've invested in summer clothes! Had my winter tyres put on 2 weeks ago...I'm ready.
We drove to the airport last year to go to Florida at Easter! there was snow on the side of the road.

Blimey Grumpy I must be a horse! DS was 2 weeks late!

Just took DS to a game's a whole new world. He asked the assistant something, it was like he was speaking a different language! And you can put your game play out there so some sad gamer can watch your play.....why?!!!hmm there are people who play games for a LIVING!? shock I feel old. Much prefer clothes shops!

LinusDKD Sat 25-Jan-14 15:34:55

No snow here yet but we are going up to the mountains tomorrow with the DC.

Today was our quarterly DS haircut stressfest and yes, the neighbours must have thought we were murdering him.

Is it too early for wine? Or a G&T?

grumpy pm!

shopafrolic Sat 25-Jan-14 15:42:15

Waves to all. Decam was today the day for getting your colours done? By the amount of brown stuff you're pinning for EBay I'm guessing you're not an Autumn?

LinusDKD Sat 25-Jan-14 15:46:17

shop is today DS's birthday or tomorrow?

Forgot to wave back at mig

DH agreed with me that a G&T is what the doctor ordered so he is making one as I type.

Wearing the Chinti and Parker dress today with black opaques and Jalouses and even though I still look a bit broad in the hips, I like the dress. Very nice and thick cotton so perfect to wear everyday.

shopafrolic Sat 25-Jan-14 15:47:48

Tomorrow Linus. Present wrapped, helium balloons collected, food prepared. 12 adults and 5 kids tomorrow - 16 adults and 14 kids next Sunday hmm

LinusDKD Sat 25-Jan-14 15:57:37

Wow shop that's a lot!

I guess if we lived near friends and family that we would have bigger parties as well. It does sometimes make me feel sad that DGP's are missing out on a lot, like birthdays.

LinusDKD Sat 25-Jan-14 16:08:15

Random beauty question too lazy to start a new topic

Can anyone recommend me a good exfoliant?

I have used Liquid Gold for the last few months and am happy with the results (softer, clearer skin) but I would like more of a BHA (salicylic acid) exfoliant to deal with the blackheads on my nose and chin. <yuk>

I have looked at Paula Begoun but unfortunately she charges £££££ to deliver to where I live so that's out and I can't find any other toner/exfoliant with enough BHA (2%) online.

shopafrolic Sat 25-Jan-14 16:10:32

Not something I know about Linus sorry. I was recommended an Elemis one at last facial but don't think it had acid in it.........

Annianni Sat 25-Jan-14 16:18:38

Linus you need Barbie.
I use cheapy Sanctuary ones from Boots... scared of acid! <eek>

Shop you're a braver woman than me... Good luck with the parties.

Forgot about that... Decameron what season are you?

Good luck tomorrow Shop....

Mignonette Sat 25-Jan-14 17:10:37

Freezing clumps of hail here. Why am I at a bloody rugby match? Feel like my face is going to shatter into a million tiny pieces of coldness. I slathered myself in Clinique City Block which normally feels like a layer of central heating for my face but to no avail. Am wearing Sheepskin lined Gap dark Olive Green suede heeled boots (stupid choice - suede) from last Winter, dark grey Helmut Lang skinny cigarette pants, a silver coated Sweatshirt from Miss Selfridge and my thick checked wool coat. On top is my pale lime green Edina Ronay leopard scarf, a long woollen dark green and grey rugby style scarf and a Trappers hat in grey. I look as mad as a fish and two cars have just crashed at the exit so won't be getting out of here anytime soon.

Boo hoo.

noviceoftheday Sat 25-Jan-14 17:52:10

Hello everyone! A mad day of unpacking here. Absolutely loving the house. Feel so lucky. I have only stopped for the occasional cringegrin

The movers have left us with a right old job to do. They run out of time as they didn't staff it properly and the last 3 hours there were 9 of them shoving stuff in cupboards. Sadly, the people we bought from had very low cleanliness standards, and the cleaners I hired a couple of days ago didn't match my standards. So, my cleaner was here reorganising and cleaning out the utility/laundry room. I have been doing the same with the kitchen on and off all day. Definitely no fashion news here! Am wearing Primark salmon pink jumper, Superdry track suit bottoms (grey with pink stripes) and slipper boots! This outfit is fashionable somewhere!

Evening all. DP of to the cinema with a friend so an evening to myself. Might be a bit late on now for violin practice torture so it might be time to break out the face masque and watch some netflix!

What season are you decam?

At least you match Novice! grin
Mig when I watch rugby once a year if they get to a final I do not look fashionable or mildly coordinated. I generally wear everything I're a brave woman today, any thoughts I had of going bare legged and sleeveless tonight have gone out of the window. Dress with sleeves, vest and opaques for me........

LinusDKD Sat 25-Jan-14 18:41:35

Hope you had a great time with DH today marsha.

Oh, yes forgot that barbie is our resident beauty expert. And otherwise I will have to leave the comfort and safety of MNV and start my own thread. shock

Your evening sounds relaxing one

Once DS is in bed I hope to do the same: tv and wine

LinusDKD Sat 25-Jan-14 18:43:14

Oh and novice I hate it when people leave their home not or barely cleaned. Happy to hear you love your new house!

Linus the problem is, "clean" means different things to different people......I'm manic and always want to clean "my way" however a house is left. It is a pain though Novice

Right, I was planning to drive tonight, but I've been offered a lift, so, sod it it's nearly the end of the month, and would be a shame to pass on such wonderful champagne grin still not spending though

Annianni Sat 25-Jan-14 18:59:36

Anyone fancy betting about Dry coming home drunk later... Coming on here to say she loves everyone... Then spending £££ on online shopping at 3am?

Annianni Sat 25-Jan-14 19:00:38

Hope you have a fab time Dry wink

Mignonette Sat 25-Jan-14 19:17:00

Have a great night Dry.

noviceoftheday Sat 25-Jan-14 19:20:29

That's a dead cert Anni! Look forward to seeing outcome of Dry's drunk shopping!

Ugh, the people we bought from were minging. It took my cleaner 5 hours in 2 sessions to scrub the oven clean. The whole house was just filthy. Dh says I am a nutter about cleaning and the movers said they have never moved anyone with as much cleaning stuff (or handbags!) as me so I know I am a clean freak but everyone who saw the oven said it was just disgusting.shock

My nieces are here. Dsis has op this week so I have been spoiling them this afternoon in between cleaning.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Sat 25-Jan-14 20:19:24

shock novice that's just rude, it's one thing to not clean to a certain standard when you move out of a house but the oven sounds like something else! Glad you love the actual house though.

And hope the op goes well for your sis.

dry hope you're having fun.

decam noticed your colour diagnosis on Pin, you were right! Hope you enjoyed the session.

Having a quiet and lazy weekend here, got a few busy ones coming up. Settling in with wine and the voice atm.

Decameron Sat 25-Jan-14 20:48:46

Hi all, just quickly skimmed, I am a summer and the pinks, reds and blues I already wore and like are good for me. However the chestnut pistols are going to go along with a few other things. That kind of colour is worse on me than black. I enjoyed it, it gave me some ideas of colours to go with (and which furniture I want to buy!) and what to avoid.

Will read back tomorrow as just about to have wine with DH.

Ugh, that oven sounds gross, Novice.

Have fun, Dry!

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 07:59:27

Decam sounds lovely and I can just imagine you as a summer. Shame about the chestnut pistols. I realised the other day I can't really do them anymore. Make my feet too big and not as comfy for long walks as the petty.

Happy birthday little Shop.

Novice houses sounds fab, shame about the cleanliness.

Having a fab weekend with dh, thanks for good wishes! Am going to wear the Marant shirt today with indigo skinnies and Lanvin black suede wedges, well, when I get dressed.

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 08:00:42

Dry sounds like fun. Was it fab?

Morning all

No real fashion news here - I seem to have turned into a fitness fanatic - my only purchase this week has been a neon pink Nike sports bra. Am running 4-5x per week and really enjoying it.

Having my HoC style day next Sat though, so I'm pretty sure that will prompt some spending!

Great diagnosis decam, I love the summer colours.

novice that's grim - my DB and DSIL had a similar situation - the placed hadn't been cleaned for years. Urgh. At least you're in though!

dry, hope your head is ok? I was disturbed to find the bottle of fizz in the fridge was flat last night as I hadn't had a drink for a week (not quite a month but impressive by my standards!)

Happy birthday to MrBrady, hope you both have a lovely day!

Oh ye of little faith!!!! 2 glasses of fizz and no late night shopping! how boring shopping this afternoon, I may crack then hmm.

Hello HMum I know you're lurking!wink

Shop hope today goes well.

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 10:09:21

Umlauf and anyone else who is looking have pinned something for you.

Can't see it M

GrumpyOldHorsewoman Sun 26-Jan-14 10:25:49

Just having a flick through You mag and a little bit shock hmm at the proliferation of bomber jackets. Not a look I can see myself rocking this year, at least not without looking completely ridiculous anyway. I did that look as a teenager and I haven't been a teenager for 25 years

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 10:32:10

Darn. Umlauf or anyone are you US7?

Am cross...the You mag was missing today. Have seen style.
Grumpy I'm by no means an edgy dresser. Last year I bought a stone biker which is softer than black, Shop has a lovely one in brown. I think it's a look you can adapt to suit your personal style .

GrumpyOldHorsewoman Sun 26-Jan-14 10:45:12

Biker jackets are fine Dry - it's the preppy bomber jackets I can't imagine wearing (not past the age of 20, anyway). I just think of 'Grease'

Mignonette Sun 26-Jan-14 11:00:21

Morning - the trouble with bomber jackets is the way they tend to 'inflate' in a breeze. Definitely a look for the very tall, slim shouldered and lean.

I pinned some pins from a street style and fashion show blog called 21eme. They are lovely- a few too many dilettante women and men who look like they've run through Selfridges designer collections covered in velcro - label mania- but I like how the photos have enough clarity to show textures and detail. There's a lovely one of some arm jewellery detail here and Leigh Lezark doing what she does best here. I do love a purple and camel together.

BecauseIsaidS0 Sun 26-Jan-14 11:11:23

Morning ladies,

I can't do the bomber jacket look, I'm way too short. I have a lovely biker jacket from All Saints that I can only wear when I'm thin. At the moment I'm wearing everything below the bum sad.

Yesterday I bought sunglasses for Bali! Here they are.

And a great summer hat from Amazon

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Sun 26-Jan-14 12:25:50

Love those sunglasses Because, very tropical.

Happy birthday to Shop DS and Marsha DH (or is that not today?) hope you both have lovely days.

I want to at least try a bomber jacket I think, never worn one before. Although am definitely not tall, especially thin or small shouldered! We shall see.

Waves to mignonette (i am a recent delurker) - I love seeing your pins.

Annianni Sun 26-Jan-14 12:40:37

LinusDKD Sun 26-Jan-14 13:51:54

Happy Birthday shopjr!

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 14:12:51

I can see my pin on mnv, can anyone else?

Thanks Blair it's on Tuesday, but we are celebrating this weekend.

Has been fabulous I must say!

I don't think I can do bomber jackets as I need a collar.

Mignonette Sun 26-Jan-14 14:27:04

Hello Blair lovely to meet you.

We have chosen to not dress today in honour of the absolutely grim weather. So I have put on fresh PJ's- old navy self stripe Bodas worn with a striped navy and cream long sleeve Uniqlo top, leopard fleece dressing gown and old Christmas socks with reindeer on. Very not coordinated! I don't flit about in wisps of lace and slivers of satin, no Cosabella for me. I do own some rocking undies but loungewear for me has to be substantial.

Have just had cheese and spring onion omelette and am now going to try to finish the book I am reviewing (fat chance). DH is watching endless reruns of 'Big Bang Theory'.

I love Leigh Lezark. A style icon of mine.

I saw a fab blue floral bomber in gap (sounds awful but was cool) today which I might try when the next 30% rolls round.

RubyLovesShopping Sun 26-Jan-14 15:00:38

Yes Marsha I can see it but can't get onto matches site to see price, how much?
Am freezing today, wearing cashmere boyfriend cardigan, long sleeved t, hush harems and my new slippers which are v warm (on pin!).
Happy bday to shop's ds!

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 15:06:01

Half price so £76. I really wanted the US9 and could have got them, but dh made me falter and then ended up paying more from ShopBop. Lesson learned!

noviceoftheday Sun 26-Jan-14 15:28:10

Hello! Happy birthday Mini Shop!

Amber, are you doing road running or gym running?

It's day 2 of THE BIG TIDY! Absolutely knackered but making more in roads into it. I haven't been to the gym for a few days but cleaning this beast of a house is good exercise!

RubyLovesShopping Sun 26-Jan-14 15:28:57

That's a good price. Am trying not to do any more spending this month, all I have bought are slippers! The johnnieB Bretons have gone back.
May also try not to buy anything next month too. Then by march I'll feel more like looking at s/s.

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 15:31:47

Me too Ruby. I'm glad I'm about to go where the online sites do not shine. (But the sun does grin).

new pin pic up for views. you know where

justasecond Sun 26-Jan-14 15:51:47

Hello everyone. Happy birthday MrMarsha!
I feel all strange as I had a normal coffee this morning and am not used to caffeine, gave it up about 12 years ago. Have come over all jittery and nervous.
If you have a min please can I have your opinion on biker boots over on Pin?

Fedupnagging Sun 26-Jan-14 16:15:26

Mig nice to see you back- I always like your links. We used to spend all weekend watching the ds's play football and rugby (now its just football on a Sunday am) so have rather a lot of thermals- the best being silk thermals from Landsend. Oh and a rather fetching almost floor length duvet coat!

I didn't get to Liberty's yesterday sad but en route to the covent garden hotel slipped into Aldo and got these and these cheapies. Am feeling very pleased with myself.

Mignonette Sun 26-Jan-14 18:05:20

Hi there Fedup

Love the Gucci esque snaffle on those boots and good to see Burgundy too. Always a less common choice and one I particularly like. I have a pair of Wrangler dark red heeled ankle boots in a lovely 'bruised' leather. They are the second pair on the same style that i have brought over the last fourteen years but they style has now been discontinued so I have to ration them out per wear. I'll be sad when they finally die.

I''ll have a look for those Lands End thermals. I am very fidgety with my clothes and don't cope well with lots of layers so something very skin-close and unlikely to ride up is what I am looking for. I do have a perverse (because they are bulky) love of Damart style brushed cotton thermals in that pretty fabric. A bit like this as the fuzziness of them is so lovely...

Am looking at lovely soft pastels worn with metallics at the moment. Kinder to the complexion especially in harsh Winter light. I love the Teddy Bear coats worn with a silver metallic A line skirt and pastel blue sweater. Very pastel beat girl. These shoes maybe with a chunkier heel perhaps? I love this so much but have so many coats that I don't wear (cream cashmere anyone?) and I suspect this style will date so very quickly. I cannot bring myself to spend on really transient items even though the coat isn't mega bucks - not like my adored Miu Miu lovely coat <swoon>

Question to contemplate?

What transient/ 'disposable' items do you not mind buying even though you know they may date pretty fast?

I'm not too hung up on 'following fashion' per se and if I like something I will continue to wear it (plaid/stripes/A line skirts/pea coats/ cigarette pants spring to mind as items I'll always wear) but some things really age. These new pant shapes I think will date as fast as Cameo's baggy pants did in the 80's!

Mignonette Sun 26-Jan-14 18:14:11

Tory Burch cuteness. And I have ordered this Tucker skirt which will be perfect for summer with this Joseph tank to go with it. I love sky and powder blue w/ camel and leopard.

Umlauf Sun 26-Jan-14 18:54:11

Sorry marsha I thought if replied earlier but my comment isn't up! I'm a UK6 but thanks for spotting them, they are a bargain for any 7s out there! I really covet the black leather ones as I have the spirals in cognac suede and Chelsea boots in pale brown, my black boots are heeled and I can't walk in heels

Signed DS up for school in September shock he has to wear a tiny uniform!

Good question mig rayban wayfarers perhaps? "Over" now but I love how they suit my face shape. I wouldn't buy skinny jeans for ages because I was convinced they'd be a flash in the pan and unflattering and my first few pairs were from primark. Now I've finally shelled out on good ones, it looks like they won't be around much longer, but mine are so flattering and well made I'll keep wearing them regardless. I think most things come back around though and I try not to go too far out with things, so my bomber jacket for example is still a classic Aquascutum one rather than a full on pink ladies style. It's on its third revolution I think, as my granny originally bought it in the early seventies!

LinusDKD Sun 26-Jan-14 18:55:52

mig I really like this look (photo was in the NaP e-mail I received today)
But I think these culottes are very hard to pull of for us mere mortals and will date quickly.

I do buy things that I think suit me and don't care if they are fashionable or not. I even hesitate to buy things that are 'in fashion' because I don't like the fact that everyone is wearing them.

So I often buy them seasons/years later if I really like them. grin

Evening all. Fab day browsing. I sent a post live from H Nics but it didn't come on! I met my bag and she winked at me later in Flannels. It's love, LOVE ! She will be mine. Absolutely gorgeous.

Also saw these shoes that I'm considering for Ascot I know what you're going to say Grumpy really wanted to hate them because they have synthetic uppers shock but they are beautiful. Damm.
Saw some of thesedress I like the digital prints a lot.....would never wear them though.
Amber saw your J Choo bikers...v nice.
And this Marant jacket....someone bought it, lovely too.

Flannels have some seriously lovely stuff at serious prices and it was just fantastic being surrounded by lux and quality.

No purchases!!!!

Mignonette Sun 26-Jan-14 18:58:45

Linus i had culottes in mind when I was writing that. I like VB in them but hers were photographed side on and looked more like to the knee city shorts. I wore brown cire cotton culottes in the 70's...I know, I know...Just those words 'brown+cire+culotte = total and epic fashion fail. I looked like a reject Freemans catalogue model smile

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Sun 26-Jan-14 19:09:27

Culottes just remind me of being a Brownie - shudder. I won't be trying them with my short legs.

Well done on not spending Dry and lovely links, a Mary Katrantzou would be my dream dress.

Actually that's a good example of mig's question, I'd like to think if I had one of her bright print dresses I'd be brave enough to wear it for years, they're just so beautiful and quite me. At the moment though I am trying to mostly buy "classic" stuff until I feel my wardrobe is at the right stage. I would say the only "fashion" things I buy are either cheap jewellery (eg ear cuff) or things that I know I will get lots of wear out of before they go out of fashion (eg gap windowpane jumper, have worn it so much).

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 19:13:24

Culottes remind me of my mother from when I was little!

Fedupnagging Sun 26-Jan-14 19:14:13

I seem to remember wearing culottes to work in the 80's- don't think I'll wear them again. Both dh and I have ray bans we bought, again back in the 80's. Dh sometimes wears his oh the shame when driving.

Mig I don't normally go for dangly bits on shoes but loved those boots and they are the nearest I'll get to the real thing! Love that yellow coat.

Boden have 20% off some items. Am considering these but not sure if coloured skinnies have had their day? Also like these sandals in blue, gold and zebra!

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 19:23:37

I don't think I am highly fashionable. And very happy to get a big discount on something rather than be one of the first.

In fact now I think about it, the one thing that glares at me from my wardrobe is colourful skinnies. I bought those mid-trend I think.

RubyLovesShopping Sun 26-Jan-14 19:27:08

I was like umlauf with skinnies- thought they'd never suit me and would be a passing fad, discovered that I love them about 3 years ago and live in them. My coloured ones were very much bought post trend! And most have subsequently been ebayed or charity shopped. Been pondering Mig's question and I don't think I have anything fashionable in my wardrobe, it's all very classic.

Fedupnagging Sun 26-Jan-14 19:27:43

Yes Marsha, I am always a bit slow on the fashion uptake - think I go for things that I know suit me and then need to be persuaded to try something new. Skinnies being a prime example which I now love.

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 19:29:41

The sales are so early, they pretty much match the seasons. So I'll take a whole load of stuff at 70% off and wear it for a couple of years rather than one fp item right at the start. Am ok with that I think.

Fedupnagging Sun 26-Jan-14 19:30:58

So, if coloured skinnes are no longer 'on trend', what on earth am I going to wear in the summer? my beloved linen trousers are also dated too apparently

Mignonette Sun 26-Jan-14 19:31:17

I LOVE the sandals - in every colour!

I like the skinnies but go for pastels for SS if you want to update them. The duck egg, silver grey or cream. And darks for more formal times. I like those silver/duck egg and creams with a bright for warmer weather or sunny winter days. Neon brights don't seem to work so well on me in gloomy weather. I use the same principle as the Southern Europeans do regarding house paints. Bright or intense in the sun, the more muted shades in Northern European light/Winter.

Mignonette Sun 26-Jan-14 19:34:50

Update them Fedup with what you wear them with. I still wear narrow pants because I am drowned by volume and i fidget with it. I tend to dopt certain styles and vary the colour/pattern/texture.

My other principle is adopt either a colour or a shape trend per item, not both. Take the cocoon coat. If you bought a pink cocoon coat you are nailing both of AW's trends but it'll date faster than a cocoon shape in a less on trend colour. That's how i (loosely) do it although every season has one thing that I absolutely love and buy anyway. Am thinking of getting my ears pierced again because I love all this fierce ear jewellery.

LinusDKD Sun 26-Jan-14 19:36:47

I was the same with skinnies, I only bought my first pair last year.

Very tempted to buy some coloured ones. I loved my raspberry Paige ones but they are now too big.

Off to see if TS have any nice ones....

RubyLovesShopping Sun 26-Jan-14 19:39:46

I had some raspberry TS Leigh's Linus.

LinusDKD Sun 26-Jan-14 19:46:23

I just saw some nice pink ones ruby but unfortunately no raspberry ones. sad

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 19:47:48

Raspberry sounds nice.

I saw a burgundy Celine trio today. I didn't know whether to be cross (that someone else had it) or pleased (cos it looked so nice) wink.

LinusDKD Sun 26-Jan-14 19:50:04

Maybe it was me marsha....

Umlauf Sun 26-Jan-14 19:51:15

fedup I love those boden sandals, especially in the zebra.

blair have you seen the Peter Pilotto for Target collaboration? Its quite kazantrouesque. I don't normally like collaborations but I love that first dress and the blue shorts/jacket suit and one of the other dresses.

There are some gorgeous MiH jeans in a raspberry at AR that I can't decide whether to try. They only have a 30 and my Marrakechs are a 29 but tight. But I'm normally 27 in denim... ho hum.

mig that sounds like a good basic principle to go by. I also find hemlines date things a lot, frustratingly. I have this but it needs to come up a few inches, by the time I get round to having that done really long ones will be back in.

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 19:51:49

Am envious you have one. You weren't in EC2 by any chance <narrows eyes>.

Bit far for you? grin

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 19:52:51

They're a bargain Umlauf!

LinusDKD Sun 26-Jan-14 19:55:13

Not today. wink

I did used to work there though.

Umlauf Sun 26-Jan-14 19:57:25

I know but can I be bothered with the hassle of international returns if they're too big, especially after all you've been saying about AR returns........

RubyLovesShopping Sun 26-Jan-14 19:59:31

Umlauf they're showing up in a 26 too, and there's 2% stretch in them ......?

RubyLovesShopping Sun 26-Jan-14 20:01:17

Ah yes AR returns- it's on my list of things to chase up this week.

Umlauf Sun 26-Jan-14 20:17:57

I know, but the marrakech 29s are tight, I think a 26 is wishful thinking!!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Sun 26-Jan-14 20:23:53

I've seen it thanks Umlauf and pinned a dress I like to a secret board wink I know what you mean about collaborations but I figure it must be ok if they are going to sell it on NAP.

Asos usually have some heavily reduced MiH denim too.

I agree with mig about coloured skinnies, it's just the trendy colours that have changed. It seems once a trend has been around for a while then it starts to move into brighter colours and patterns, noticeably from the designers to the high street. Classic example, I really want a leather pencil skirt, but it must be navy, and I can't find one under about £400 anywhere. The high street has only just started doing coloured ones.

I guess what I'm saying is coloured/patterned skinnies might be around until the skinny trend dies entirely?!

Mig I didn't mind buying my Marant wedge trainers even though they're past the height of their power because I've always loved them and will wear them for a long time regardless. Ditto my Kenzo tiger top - I love animal motifs!!

MarshaBrady Sun 26-Jan-14 20:35:36

I saw some gorgeous light blue Marant wedge trainers on Matches. It's down atm otherwise would link. Was very tempted.

I also won't mind that oversize will probably be out next year re Marant coat. I quite like that.

shopafrolic Sun 26-Jan-14 20:38:50

Evening all - one happy and exhausted DS, one happy and exhausted Shop and MrShop. Will catch up tomorrow.

Mignonette Sun 26-Jan-14 21:19:47

Yes that Kenzo tiger top and the Marant trainers are definitely examples of trends that'll eventually be classics because they broke ground. That sweatshirt will be coveted by your kids Amber when they are teens! My daughter 'borrowed' my old Betsey Johnson and Body Map tops and leggings and they were once as 'on trend'.

Same with outsize coats. Balenciaga designed the cocoon coat shape decades ago and it'll never go out of style.

Umlauf Sun 26-Jan-14 21:28:05

Balenciaga was a genius. I go to his birthplace museum every month. It's amazing how many classic shapes can be traced back to him. And all the old pieces are displayed on such womanly mannequins, if that is the right adjective. They are buxom and hippy, but so elegant. It's a wonderful place if you're ever in the south of France/North Spain.

Bah, I searched everywhere for raspberry coloured skinnies and couldn't lay my hands on a pair anywhere near me and because I didn't know how to measure for jeans other than dress size, I never dared by any online. I ended up with some fuchsia coloured ones in the end grin

Mignonette Sun 26-Jan-14 21:39:29

Where is the museum Umlauf? We're in Spain this spring again and I'd love to see that. Trouble is we'll be in Jerez driving through the national park to the coast so probably miles away!

Have you tried Unqlo and American Apparel for bright skinnies?

Umlauf Sun 26-Jan-14 21:49:39

Yes about 8 hours drive from Jerez sadly mig ! It's in a tiny fishing village in the Spanish Basque Country called Getaria. He was very like Chanel in his beginnings, very inspired by the traditional Basque costumes and fishermen! Lots of the mental costumes we wear to the festivals here are Balenciaga, including these monstrosities! total Balenciaga originals !! They are supposed to be very arousing and phallic, apparently hmm

Mignonette Sun 26-Jan-14 22:09:42

Aah well. So much for that great plan Umlauf. That is most definitely a phallus!

Umlauf shock how on earth did I miss that all these years? We've spent loads of holidays in the French Basque Country . Next time we'll have to pop over. After reading the amazing "Guernica" by Dave Bolling, I want to go there too.

Umlauf Mon 27-Jan-14 08:25:21

Yes dry we could have a MNV on tour meet up! I love that book, it made me cry blush

Annianni Mon 27-Jan-14 10:29:56

Well... I've just got a surprising email...

From Brand Alley, apologising for sending me the wrong shoes and they've given me a pre-paid returns label.

I'm amazed to be honest, after reading some of the stories on here.
I only contacted them on Saturday, so maybe they've finally sorted out their problems.

MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 11:03:25

Good one Anni!

Stokey Mon 27-Jan-14 11:07:49

Morning ladies - hope you all had lovely weekends. Quiet here execpt my 4yr old who's social life continues to outpace mine envy

Just got an email from Matches - an extra 20% of everything in the sale for the next 48 hours. Went on to buy a second dvF dress but none left in my size. So if any of you are US6 I'm coveting this one
I may try this, a size smaller than the one I bought but could be ok.
Quite like this t-shirt but will have to go medium, may be a bit big.

noviceoftheday Mon 27-Jan-14 11:10:40

Morning! Gah, day off today. Can't find dd's presents! Hunting them down. It's a glorious day isn't it?

MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 11:26:57

Gorgeous. Instead of Matches sale am going swimming <polishes halo>.

Nice Stokey.

Mignonette Mon 27-Jan-14 12:10:20

Hello all

Received this months subscribers Vogue USA through the door today.

Thoughts on the Lena Dunham cover anybody? I do get a bit hmm when they have cover girls over a size zero on any high fashion magazine because they only ever show their faces and necks. Jennifer Hudson, Adele, Oprah all had their <normal sized> bodies kept firmly off the cover in case they should cause mass fashion apoplexy.

Everybody gets photoshopped so that's not the issue. Dunhams editorial feature images have been photoshopped to hell (didn't Jezebel obtain the pre shopped images?) but at least in that respect, the body fashism is equitable. Interesting though that 'I'm going to show my normal sized thighs' Dunham appears to not want to participate in this particular debate!

Am eagerly awaiting my skirt and tank from the Outnet today or tomorrow. If I didn't hate being photographed so much I'd pin a shot you know where.

Love the T Stokey even though I cannot wear burgundy so close to the face in Winter- casts a pall on me. I'm not a wrap dress person (couldn't risk them flapping about at work) and i fidget with wraps but they are a classic that will never date.

Annianni Mon 27-Jan-14 12:38:24

Instead of the Matches sale, I've done 15 miles on the bike... And will do some more later.

fails to mention the pair of J Brands that I ordered on Friday, are on their way from matches and are being held hostage at Heathrow by dhl

Decameron Mon 27-Jan-14 13:09:06

What J brands did you order, Anni?

Great bargains in Matches.

I've just complained to Atterley Rd about the length of time it is taking to refund me, it's been well over two weeks so far. Really not acceptable.

libertychick Mon 27-Jan-14 13:23:01

Wow Anni that is so impressive. After all that pedaling you deserve some new jeans!

Mig I saw something somewhere <helpful eh> where Lena Dunham says 'well, Vogue is different' about it all. She says if people want to see her 'real' body then watch the show. When I do watch her on 'Girls' I have to stifle the urge to scream 'FFS just stand up straight woman and wear clothes that fit'. I get annoyed with the way when 'real' bodies are portrayed it's in the Lena Dunham style of looking like a slob - guess what - you can be bigger than a model size 4/6/8 and look fabulous.

shopafrolic Mon 27-Jan-14 13:23:25

I haven't seen my money back from them from them either yet Decam angry

LinusDKD Mon 27-Jan-14 13:32:57

interesting for umlauf

Decameron Mon 27-Jan-14 13:33:37

What annoys me is that 11 days ago they said I'd have a refund within 3-5 working days. They are off my go to list!

I haven't seen that Vogue cover but I agree with what you say, Liberty.

libertychick Mon 27-Jan-14 13:38:40

I'm still waiting on AR refund too - very bad form.

Annianni Mon 27-Jan-14 13:58:17

I've finally ordered those distressed Aidens that I've been stalking since Christmas (pin on mnv)
I was waiting for a code (like today's) hmm

But I'm glad I ordered them on Friday, as they went oos straight away.

I did 100 miles last week, which considering I was extremely hormonal, then on my period, is good (i think)

I've resisted weighing myself cos I'd cry as I've been so bloated.
I'll do it in a few days, fingers crossed... I've been trying to watch what I eat and exercise almost every day for a month.

Stokey Mon 27-Jan-14 14:18:39

Waves to Migonette
think we definitely suit different colours as I couldn't do camel anywhere near my face - too close to skin tone - and not good with pastels either.

Have broken out credit card and added this dress too, not sure if colour will work with me but kinda love it.

Anni have you tried 5:2 or my fitness pal? Found it really helped me lose last of baby weight (well apart from the ahlf stone that stayed after dd1).

Decameron Mon 27-Jan-14 14:18:49

Well done Anni!

Nice day?!!shock horrid here, cold and wet with snow expected later sad
Stokey wait till they're teenagers, social life/sleepovers/ matches....I'm a taxi service!
Anni team sky in Yorkshire leg of Tour de France ? Sounds like you could do it? grin
A lady at the gym said I had a nice muscly back...hmm, never see it! shame it's so bleeding pasty! Why doesn't anyone comment on my arse? That's what I do it for!!!!!
Sorry no fashion news.

MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 15:34:31

lol Dry grin

Stokey fab dress.

Yep has turned pretty miserable here too.

I am pondering the benefits of the dc's education system as the Marant boots are sold out around me. wink (But argh I did really like them)

I have a couple of days work this week. I am mainlining the words SS14 SS14 to get through it.

MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 17:09:01

ps am sure your butt is awesome. Remind me to check it out and tell you at the next mu wink

Umlauf Mon 27-Jan-14 17:13:21

Thanks linus I entered!

Umlauf Mon 27-Jan-14 17:14:11

Oh wow stokey that dress is beautiful. Love those colours

Rather you didn't Marsha might look a bit weird!grin... Have you considered home schooling? grin grin

MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 17:30:59

Hell no. They hang off me too much (the dc that is). I wouldn't get any time to wear them!

But fear not I'm not a butt checking type. That's all we need. Cue everyone leaving the room backwards. grin

shopafrolic Mon 27-Jan-14 17:38:30

But I do seem to remember showing Marsha my fat rolls later on at lunch during last MU...... (lucky her!)

MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 17:49:20

Lol Shop! If I recall the required number of proseccos had been consumed in their entirety so you're off the hook. grin

MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 17:50:22

ps you looked very trim when I last saw you. Sleep effect!

shopafrolic Mon 27-Jan-14 17:51:58

Just to clarify for lurkers - I was showing that I could pinch more than an inch through my clothes - not flashing grin

shopafrolic Mon 27-Jan-14 17:52:58

<not making it sound any better am i?> blush

Don't worry shop when i was out today, the wind caught my skirt and everyone behind me got an eyeful of my bum! blush

MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 18:05:27

Shop don't worry it will pass. I was worried I'd freaked Dry out a bit grin.

Look something pretty, bright and pretty.

oh my I used to wear clogs all the time. How funny to see them back.

I would like skinnies this colour for spring.

shopafrolic Mon 27-Jan-14 18:16:24

LOVE that bag Marsha <follows diversion and raises you> With the trapeze although I actually prefer your link.
Lovely jeans, you'd rock those

shopafrolic Mon 27-Jan-14 18:21:03
MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 18:33:02

Both are gorgeous.

Actually just realised as running the bath. On the how fashionable do you feel. Obviously I would love to spend a small fortune at the beginning of the season on up to the minute things. The neon bag <swoon> all that. But since it's more about choosing I guess I do the sales thing more.

Need to get my Kenzo tshirt in the soak - DS cut his head and bled all over it! He is fine after cuddle and a gruffalo plaster - hoping the tee will be as easy to fix!

Decameron Mon 27-Jan-14 19:12:06

Poor DS, Amber, and hope your t shirt recovers too!

I am not very fashionable, I like to buy things that aren't one season wonders. I'll be ditching my bright J Brands this summer, I got two years out of them so not bad.

I love that bag, Shop. I am ebaying furiously and in the market for a new bag. Current favourites are Burberry (can get 20% off) or this Balenciaga in anthracite (keeping ebaying and sell the children).

LinusDKD Mon 27-Jan-14 19:19:46

Hope your DS is ok amber!

Ooh bag porn! Really like the Burberry decam and thag neon Valentino marsha

I might have ordered something from the Outnet earlier, will try and find a link.

LinusDKD Mon 27-Jan-14 19:23:50

It looks very simple but I love the cotton of the Chinti and Parker dress I bought in the NaP sale so I hope this one is as nice.

Ooh Amber hope DS is ok and the kenzo survives

Blimey Marsha I was nearly blinded!you could have warned me!!!!
Lovely Burberry Decameron and the Givenchy Shop "oh my"... You been reading 50 Shades?

Ahem, surely pinching through your clothes is bonkers because depending of the fabric you will obv pinch more than an inch.....I think you need to pinch SKIN Shop and I'm sure there's not a lot to pinch....<brings us back to point in hand>

There's really no point me answering the "how fashionable are you?" Question. grin .I'm very classic and a slow burner, have never been cutting edge. It took me until 2011 to get into skinnies.shock I do follow trends but a watered down version.
I also find, when I read about "this season's" trends that they're always the same......bit of pastel, leather still, metallic, bright colour blocking, masculine, monochrome, girlie, boho, mini, midi.....there's always something I can work and say it's "this season"

Linus don't do that to me!! It's so me and would be great for work..........nooooooooooooosad

MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 19:49:15

Absolutely Dry. It all gets rehashed.

Linus that dress is gorgeous, I'd be so tempted if I wasn't on a break.

Oh no Amber poor sausage. Ds2 had his head glued when he was tiny was awful! Just turned around and there was slow trickle of blood running down his face, didn't even see how he did it.

Decam lovely bags.

Dh just saw the Valentino and said awful shock. That killed it!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Mon 27-Jan-14 19:52:54

Love that Burberry and also the bright blue Rockstud trapeze. And the Antigona.

Also decam I love the my-wardrobe loyalty scheme, it's the best imo!

I would have to really really love something to buy it at the start of the season at full price, whether high street or designer (though of course the love required would be proportional to the price...)

Linus that is a lovely dress. Good for work or casual.

Urgh have got a really busy 2 weeks at work. Hopefully it will go quickly without me spending anything until mid Feb and then I can splurge a bit smile

LinusDKD Mon 27-Jan-14 20:00:18

The fact the Outnet have styled the dress with a yellow bag reminded me I van wear it with my yellow Nano.

dry I am going to be the voice of reason and tell you not to buy it because you have to save up for your Gucci.

marsha on the other hand has no excuse.... wink

BecauseIsaidS0 Mon 27-Jan-14 20:28:11

Decam, I had the Balenciaga City in black....loved it, loved, it loved it. One of my favourite bags ever. Wore it until it fell apart.

MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 20:35:24

Haha Linus! It looks incredible with yellow.

Turquoiseblue Mon 27-Jan-14 21:13:28

Gorgeous bags <sigh> love the Burberry one!
No exciting shopping news I fear I ll be kicked off MNV because of my non exciting links these days, roll on ss14.

Am wearily consiðering biker boots as have realised I probably won't get my feet into flats until I go abroad on holidays summer, if we get one
Probably missed the boat completely but Ido so much walking to and from schools/ trains etc anything with more than a Cuban heel is too high so I think bikers might be the answer.

So who asked the question "are you fashionable " my answer is probably in my head only - how late am I to the biker boot trend ? (Well we re not counting the ones I had when I was 13 right ?) so I m a slow burner, slow to adopt a trend and slow to get rid of the ones I like smile

The C and P dress is lovely anni be lovely with orange/ red too.
I got some nice denim here and but it s not a keeper and I ve my eye on this for next month I think
Shop you asked about sandro on line - I buy instore so have only looked online, sorry I m late with the answer I saw your question last week but forgot to reply. I hAve two dresses that are sandro from last year and they ve worn so well (wore them again this year) I saw this in store and it s lovely here but the zip at the front was a bit off putting fussy and I liked this too here but felt a bit old for it!

justasecond Mon 27-Jan-14 21:38:49

I am late to the biker boot trend too although I have some that sort of nod to the trend from across the road. I missed the delivery of the sam edelman bikers today, will be at work tomorow morning too so hope they come in the afternoon. The problem I have is big feet on thin legs which make most bikers look like big blobs on the end of my legs. I am sure the Jimmy Choo youth would look perfect though grin
I am not very fashionable but I did start wearing skinnies in 2006! I am interested in fashion and trends even if I don't wear them all. Don't see much trend setting in my neck of the woods so when I go into London I love people watching as much as everthing else there is to see.
Linus that C+P dress is really lovely and v versatile too.

MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 21:41:36

I think I might skip biker boots altogether. Not sure they go with anything I have.

But...what recent trends have you not embraced then?
Me....well predictable, bet you lot could list mine grin

noviceoftheday Mon 27-Jan-14 21:57:24

I am not fashionable at all! Classic dresser yes, fashionable, no! I do want the Choo biker boots but I am not getting it because I have a downer on a Jimmy Choo since they went through a phase of using cheaper materials but raised prices a few years ago, hoping no one will notice.hmm

I think there is a difference between being "fashionable" (following latest trends ) and being "chic" (wearing clothes that suit you with a nod to current trends).....

Decameron Mon 27-Jan-14 23:36:31

Because, I love Balenciaga but heard they don't last very well, how long did you have yours? I read it is a problem with the non-black bags though.

Blair, yes, My-W is brilliant, wish Matches and Nap did the same!

Lovely dress, Linus.

I only got my biker boots recently but I love them. I do wear skinny jeans a lot (sahm) so they are perfect for winter.

Hmm, trends, don't like maxis so never wore them and skipped the neons as it doesn't suit me.

Decameron Mon 27-Jan-14 23:39:13

Dry, yes, definitely.

MarshaBrady Tue 28-Jan-14 08:07:14

I haven't bought wedge trainers - although I still could- or leather leggings of coated skinnies. Or peep toe boots.

Am sure there is more.

LinusDKD Tue 28-Jan-14 08:12:32

I haven't bought any of those either marsha even though I have looked at coated skinnies.

Or trainers come to think of it. Apart from Superga but they don't count because they are überpreppy.

Stokey Tue 28-Jan-14 09:38:38

Loving those bags - Burberry especially - but am definitely on spending suspension now as just realised I messed up child benefit. Thought it was this year we had to cancel so have received a year more than we should & now owe HMRC nearly £2000 sad.

I have been in skinnies & biker boats for quite a while - pre 2009 - ankle boots have been the one that I'm late to the party for, just got some this autumn.

Have not purchased any leather trousers/skirts yet or trainer wedges although did buy some super comfy addidas high tops a couple of weeks ago. I cannot wear skater dresses no matter how hard I try - think boobs are too big & makes me look very top heavy.

Started getting into Maxi skirts last summer and actually really liked returning to my hippy youth - & yes I remember the clogs too Marsha, wore them constantly early 90s despite them not being that comfy.

MarshaBrady Tue 28-Jan-14 09:48:46

Oh no Stokey what a pita sad

I haven't done maxi skirt, silk pj type things or trainers.

My wardrobe may well consist of two things at this rate!

Turquoiseblue Tue 28-Jan-14 09:50:02

I ve done the coated skinnies but just oaisis ones as wasn't sure I d love them or be able to wear them.I do though. Have a lot of day and might wear from them.

Turquoiseblue Tue 28-Jan-14 09:50:28

*night not might wink

shopafrolic Tue 28-Jan-14 10:28:40

Morning all - just back from physio = OUCH!
I know the trends I've done but shouldn't have - boho, maxi skirts, anything floaty or floral. Shouldn't have bothered with wedge trainers (although they are comfy). I rarely wear trainers at all (although physio now says I should so may have to rethink). Harem pants.
I love my coated skinnies though, and boyfriend jeans (although I am stopping short of the paint splatted ones!). I don't have leather skinnies but I wish i did.
Rubbish about child benefit Stokey
DH and I had a big debrief last night post USA. Work is causing lots of pressure. Am seriously tempted to move somewhere we could be mortgage free and not put so much pressure on ourselves.......

Umlauf Tue 28-Jan-14 10:34:34

My first coated skinnies are arriving today, the anglomania for lee ones, will report back!

I have one silk pj shirt and love it. It's been through the machine one time too many though, I might look for a replacement. I'm short so have always preferred ankle boots, and worn skinnies since 2008.

I haven't, and very probably won't, do cropped tops. They seem to be cropping up all over the place at the moment if you'll pardon the pun teehee

Stokey Tue 28-Jan-14 10:45:55

exciting Umlauf and yes, cropped tops are definitely off the list - surely for anyone who has had a child??

Do you work too Shop? are you thinking of swapping town for country?

We bought our house start of last year and have pretty massive mortgage, but think value has gone up a lot since then so wondering about remortgaing to try & cut our LTV. I do love my house though and wouldn't want to move.

shopafrolic Tue 28-Jan-14 11:22:31

Stokey I'm a SAHM - used to be a Marketing Manager for a big retailer. DH works a crazy stress filled job and we have about 6 years left to pay on the mortgage (we're in our early 40s). The area we live in is v competitive, lots of people move from London to here for the schools. Just starting to wonder whether the pressure and stress is worth it. Might be better to ease off the pedal a bit, move a bit further away to get more for our money and find jobs that are more enjoyable (provided schooling would still be good for DS). Not sure.... we'll see.

Stokey Tue 28-Jan-14 11:37:48

It's tricky - if it makes you feel better, we're late 30s and have over 20 year left on our mortgage!

Don't think we'll ever pay it off, probably just sell and move further out at some stage.

But was talking to DH about following our dreams the other day, saying this is really the time to do it if we want to do something other than city jobs. But it's tough, small children, large outgoings. Hard to imagine chucking it all in to do something else.

Umlauf Tue 28-Jan-14 11:41:15

Sounds tricky shop fwiw my parents did exactly the same as you have done, they moved onto a particular notch of the commuter belt for the grammar schools and my Dad was under so much pressure and eventually became fairly ill. Only once my youngest sibling had left school did he change career and take a huge pay hit, but that coincides with my relationship with my Dad actually starting and he became so much happier. I'm not saying it's anything like your situation but I do think it's far too easy to get caught up in a sense of responsibility when the stress isn't worth it and can so easily get too much. You sort of end up moving the goalposts and putting more and more pressure on yourself.

I'm off to sign DS up for school today! He's 4 months old, it's very odd. I have to buy him a tiny uniform! shock

Umlauf Tue 28-Jan-14 11:54:25

Oh dear, the anglomania skinnies were not to be, I cannot get them over my bum. sad feeling very chubby after a fast day yesterday (am on the 5:2!) and none the wiser as to my jeans size!

Annianni Tue 28-Jan-14 12:11:11

Don't be too upset Umlauf, I think coated skinnys run small across every brand.

remembers the horror of trying to get size 14's on in Gap

Annianni Tue 28-Jan-14 12:16:35

I think I was quite adventurous with how I dressed when I was younger.
I bought Vogue, Elle and H&Q from being a teenager and I used to wear things before any of my friends did.

Not anymore though grin I definitely lost my way a bit in my 30's, which coincided with going up a few dress sizes.
I think i know what suits me now though, and what not to wear... No crop tops in this house, except for on dsd!

MarshaBrady Tue 28-Jan-14 12:18:56

Have picked up brief for work (feel good now, I always worry I'll forget how!) and done the run.

I do wonder if commuter belt can place extra stress on both, not least the travel. So I can see why you are doing a re-think Shop.

Now I've admitted to doing so little, I must say some trends I have picked up - check shirts, oversized coat, skinnies (of course), ankle boots and wedge knee highs. Posh cardigan thing and neon.

MarshaBrady Tue 28-Jan-14 12:19:54

Umlauf I would love a silk pj shirt now you mention it, and I must pick up my silk dress from the dry cleaners!

Umlauf Tue 28-Jan-14 12:40:50

Thanks anni yep! definitely the jeans, definitely not me casts evil glare at baby for ruining me!!!!

He's totally worth it, at the moment he is sitting still in miniature old man pajamas and talking to his feet, he discovered them last week and remains in awe of them! grin

I dressed abominably as a teenager/early twenties, I was really wacky and tried to incorporate fancy dress elements into all my looks, I thought I was being quirky hmm and I told anyone who would listen that I reintroduced the cowboy boot trend, as they reappeared shortly after I found some on a market stall in Barcelona....

Mignonette Tue 28-Jan-14 12:45:52

Shop Move to my neck of the woods. 45-60 mins from the Central Line, bucolic w/ great shopping locally and not too deserted unless you want to be.

I agree with the posture thing re Dunham- character creation only goes so far with me until I want to send her to an Alexander technique-er.

shopafrolic Tue 28-Jan-14 12:46:20

AR have finally refunded - ridiculous - never again (remind me of that one Voguettes)

Decameron Tue 28-Jan-14 13:25:12

Ugh, that's annoying about the child benefit, Stokey. Love that dress btw.

We thought about moving out but DH would have had a dreadful commute so now planning to leave the country instead!

I still haven't had a refund from Atterley Road, Shop, just an email pointing out that they may take up to 21 days to refund despite them telling me on the 10th it would be 3-5 days. I will not be buying from them again. Utterly Slow Road.

Stokey Tue 28-Jan-14 14:24:52

Thanks Decam actually they're being pretty reasonable. We have to pay three months back before April and the rest before end of the next tax year phew.

So have just been for my denim appointment at Selfridges which was great. I'm two sizes smaller than I thought - hurrah! But the ones that I loved were the Paige Hoxton high-rise skinnies which are over £200. Have put them on hold til Thursday & am thinking if I don't like either of the Matches dresses and my husband never sees my credit card I can maybe buy them.

I also tried on the Marrakesh skinny flares which are lovely but only come in 34" length and since I am knee-high to a grasshopper, drowned me. Still the guy said there are loads of flares in for SS14 including leather and red velvet.

Decameron Tue 28-Jan-14 14:28:54

I have Paige Hoxtons, wearing them now, great jeans. Have you checked the price on Shopbop or Revolve now that you know your size?

Stokey Tue 28-Jan-14 14:49:03

Just checked Decam - they only have the high-rise ones in 23 or 25 - didn't get downgraded that much - on Shopbop and these ones on Revolve which are a bit dark.
These were the ones I wanted.

Stokey Tue 28-Jan-14 14:59:07

Good to know they come recommended though as I'm going to break the bank!

Fedupnagging Tue 28-Jan-14 16:06:32

It's reassuring to hear a lot of you saying you are not massively fashionable - I tend to wear what suits me with a nod to the latest fashion. Love looking at what everyone else is wearing though.

Fashion that I have not embraced - there is lots! Biker boots - am short and they don't look right. Peep toe boots, wedge trainers, tea dresses, skater skirts. I could go on!

Stokey, love the dress you pinned yesterday. Also really like the yellow rockstud and love the grey Burberry Decameron posted.

Shop am just back from physio too. Hope you are not in too much pain. I always feel really tired afterwards.

Annianni Tue 28-Jan-14 16:50:45

J Brand boyfriends arrived earlier.
I love the denim, colour etc.
Undecided whether to keep them or not though.
Not sure if they make me look a bit stumpy hmm

May do photos in the morning and you can all decide for me grin

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Tue 28-Jan-14 16:54:12

Hi all

Stokey glad the denim appt was fun, lovely to find a go-to style. But... leather and velvet flares?! Sounds a bit out of my comfort zone.

The main trend I haven't tried is peplums. I think they would really suit me, but I never took the plunge as I was always paranoid they would date very very quickly. In the end of course they have ended up being around for a few seasons, but I think it's almost definitely too late now!

Also haven't tried cocoon coats, plaid, biker boots... not sure if any of them are really me.

Having said that I keep returning to the idea of the HoC style day. Has anyone done it yet? Hoping Amber will report back on how useful it is smile

MarshaBrady Tue 28-Jan-14 17:20:51

I haven't Blair but there's a few around who have done it.

Love those Paige Stokey.

Dh has lost a stone recently (he's not that big but is reducing the tum) and I'm laughing that they do cake at work and bring him a cheese board. Actually it's pretty nice of them!

MarshaBrady Tue 28-Jan-14 17:21:50

Barbie and Santa hope is all ok? Who else...

shopafrolic Tue 28-Jan-14 17:50:44

Happy Birthday MrMarsha cheese board sounds ace.

Of course I will Blair - I'm doing it on Sat, so expect a full debrief! I have to take three items from my wardrobe I love and three that don't work. Is surprisingly hard to find the ones that don't work!

Marsha a cheese board?shock how wonderful.

Right, trends I haven't embraced:

Crocs (a trend?)
black biker jacket and boots ......--too edgy/butch/rock chic--
Oversized anything....--why would I want to make myself look bigger?--hmm
Birkenstocks I'm going to get flamed
Wedge trainers
Coated skinnies....but I'm not ruling them out as I quite like them knowing me I'll get into them when they're out of fashion
Cropped anything
CULOTTES did them with APLOMB the first time

Shop it's a toughie. That work/life balance stuff is hard. Move up is marginally cheaper and the state schools are brilliant! and we could shop and do lunch with winegrin

Umlauf Tue 28-Jan-14 18:13:43

Sounds like it'll be a lot of fun amber which items are you going to take?!

I need to spend less of my day in pjs, for the second time this week I've been asked to do last minute supply lessons. As in, can you be at school in 15 mins with an entire lesson ready and dressed/made up, baby fed and in childcare?! Erm... That'll be a no?! Sorry, little rant!

Have ordered navy Sam edelman Gigi's smile in hope of coaxing some warmer weather in.

Mignonette Tue 28-Jan-14 18:26:23

Hello all -

I wouldn't consider myself on trend or majorly fashionable as such. I know what suits and if it doesn't I walk away no matter how ubiquitous it is marketed as.

What have I walked away from?

The Prada black nylon backpack 90's thing
Major trainers - Gazelles or Converse are about it and old skool Kangas.
Niche denim - Indigo for me, straight or cigarette
Patterned denim or patchwork. No no no on me.
Very short skirts - not now.
Bodycon. No, too self conscious, don't like to show too much flesh or contour. Too 80's- been there, done that.

Full on Frilly Hippy - not me, too short.
Full on Boho - not as an adult. Again too fussy on me.
Office neat - doesn't suit me. I never look pulled together when i 'try' to look pulled together
High high platforms - not on me. I Like a heel but not those daft Loub clodhopper platforms
Pleat front pants / dropped crotch pants - not for me.
Those Roland Mouret Galaxy style dresses - I look like I am playing dress up in them. Far too self conscious of myself to wear them.
Serial Killer thigh boots - no no no
Spike heel boots - again, not me.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Tue 28-Jan-14 18:30:58

Happy birthday MrM smile

Love the list dry your crossings out are so funny!

Amber as a reader of your blog I wonder how you'll narrow it down to 3 favourite things, maybe just take a suitcase? wink

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Tue 28-Jan-14 18:32:45

Good list mig, you obviously know yourself really well. Am jealous as so much of it is still trial and error here grin

Mignonette Tue 28-Jan-14 18:35:26

I am old and worn Blair. It took me a while. There is always that tension though between knowing what suits you and falling into a rut though confused

MarshaBrady Tue 28-Jan-14 18:35:32

It didn't actually occur to me that's why they were doing the cheese board. I thought it was just an off thing blush. Really must pay attention.

I think I still need more jumpers. Never ending!

Ooooh but things I love that some of you hate;

Peplums love a nipped in waist
Tea dresses
R Mouret style dresses mig what I like doesn't actually equate to my lifestyle sad if I were a powerful corporate lady who looses jewellery I'd wear them all the timewink
Office neat you all know I love to match

Stokey the denim day sounds amazing.

Just opened my first bottle chilled dry white in 27 days! not counting the 2 glasses of fizz on Saturday as I didn't actually open the bottle, it was poured for me heaven.

Amber I'll be interested to see what you think of your style day. You seem to have such a strong sense of your own style, I'm wondering what they will change.

Umlauf Tue 28-Jan-14 18:54:17

It could make a good MNV question.

Which 3 favourite things would YOU take, and which 3 things that don't work??

I might hazard a guess that a pencil skirt will be in ambers suitcase... Perhaps a t by Alexander wang one???! Or McQ? I read your blog lots!

MarshaBrady Tue 28-Jan-14 18:59:38

Good question Umlauf! Ok going to ponder while I make dinner.

<a blanket of collective silence is thrown over MNV as everyone ponders Umlauf's tricky question> hmm hmm hmm glue glug

LinusDKD Tue 28-Jan-14 19:17:46

Ooh tricky question umlauf!

On my first glass of wine so I'll have to think a bit.

Cheers Linus

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Tue 28-Jan-14 19:28:06

In the middle of making dinner too, and came back to the thread only to be reminded by Dry to get wine which I have done. grin

Now going to ponder and browse my wardrobe on pin to answer Umlauf's question.

LinusDKD Tue 28-Jan-14 19:50:11

Chin chin dry

shopafrolic Tue 28-Jan-14 20:09:59

3 to take
Goldsign Lures
LKB shoe boots
Dagmar sweater

3 to leave
Whistles Lena cream blazer
Jones the Bootmaker brogues
French Connection cowl neck cream blouse

Dry I did use where you live as an example of somewhere new to try! <is that a bit scary?>
Mig not sure exactly where you are but I guess you must be close to my inlaws! grin

Mignonette Tue 28-Jan-14 20:10:00

I've heard of some get out of jail cards in my time dry but having poured out drinks as not counting is the best ever grin.

Am now past a whole hour of pondering of Umlaufs question. Still haven't decided. I took less time to decide what to call my children, heck even to decide to have children than I have this.....

shopafrolic Tue 28-Jan-14 20:10:38

And can I squeeze in my Chloe peacoat as an extra?

Mignonette Tue 28-Jan-14 20:11:43

Shop Yes in the West.

Umlauf Tue 28-Jan-14 20:25:34

I think I've decided mine...

1. Levi Curveid jeans, have gone through many jeans but always come back to these
2. Very old all saints VW-a-like dress that gives me a dream body and is all gothic princess.
3. Ted baker stickman dress.

I find it hard to find dresses to flatter so those two are my wardrobe diamonds.

Things that don't really work:
1. Ankle length camel cashmere wool dressing gown coat. (Too long, I feel like a flasher in it)
2. Whistles Carrie skirts.
3. Neon acne knit.. Adds lbs

shopafrolic Tue 28-Jan-14 20:26:52

LOL I'm just catching up on Silent Witness. I used to date this really dodgy DJ years ago who lived on a really horrible estate. The estate is the setting for their murder story. God I was so classy back in the day blush

Umlauf Tue 28-Jan-14 20:28:47

I didn't pay the customs on shopbop when ordering the Gigi's today.... Am I going to get stung? It was my first time using shopbop and I was confused!!

LinusDKD Tue 28-Jan-14 20:32:45

Depends on what the customs regulations are where you live umlauf.

I always choose to pay mine included in the Shopbop price as customs here are ridiculous.

That question is tooooo hard! I can't decide!

Not scary Shop it would be bloody fantastic!!!!!! wine
Mig I have many "get out of jail cards" grin

<still pondering>

My takes would be : M MK blue dress, Leopard print tube skirt and black sheer shirt

Things that don't work: brown cable knit jumper, beige blazer and neon yellow vest

I have never , ever looked good in yellow, brown or beige, I don't know what possessed me!

Mignonette Tue 28-Jan-14 20:41:01

Here is my first attempt at what I would take- I may have to revise my decision later...

1. Cigarette pants preferably Helmut Lang in either black navy or charcoal grey.

2. Ochre Yellow cardigan in wool and cotton blend, v neck three button.

3. Cream shirt w/ navy pin spots on, loose neck tie in cotton and chiffon.

1. Indigo narrow jean. Low rise. Cuff and very white selvedge.

2. Slingback neon yellow shoes with three inch heel

3. Slouchy grey marl luxe sweatshirt from Givenchy Man (that I nicked from Husband). It has a thick ribbed welt and wide round neck line and is lined with a deep chocolate brown silk cotton.

I can't decide!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping Tue 28-Jan-14 21:00:00

My 3 I love that are really me:
1) Navy zarita - I love structured lace.
2) Zara floral neoprene pencil dress - probably my favourite thing to wear right now
3) J crew pea coat

And 3 that don't work:
1) All scarves - I would never wear one as an accessory, only to keep my neck warm
2) Maxi dresses - just so not me, unless maybe tube style.
3) A black leather midi circle skirt from urban outfitters. Too long on me.

One I am guessing you probably wouldn't be an Autumn then! smile

justasecond Tue 28-Jan-14 21:04:01

My 3 to take are
zara grey wool wraparound coat, it is unlined and has a hood. Was tempted to get a back up one this year when they did it again.
brown leather ankle boots with low angled heel. These are almost dead but are the sort I wear on a daily basis.
indigo skinnies
Things that unsure of
yellow silk shirt, lovely but unsure how to wear for casual
leopard print cardigan
Flared/bootcut 7FAM jeans (They are nice sort of a modern bootleg)

Lots of trends I have not adopted, maxi dresses for one, really dislike flouncy girly things. Look nice on others though.
Was home all day today and bloody yodel didn't come back with my order. Think I am going off the idea of biker boots.

Blair I don't think I'd be an autumn at all, I just don't look at all good in those kinds of colours, in fact, I look my worst! I have a very definite fondness for black (once a goth dontcha know wink)

Right after much thought, a quick rummage in my wardrobe and a second glass of wine.

The 3 things I'd take:

1.My black crepe shift dress (with gold exposed zip, round neck and sleeveless.Makes me feel sexy, thin and tall. Cheap dress, but I love it and always get compliments.)
2.Whistles Bella dress....similar reasons, fits like a glove,my fav colours, blues and greens.
3.Gap real straight jeans (live in them) or my new 7FAm straight cut. Better than skinny tbh for me.

(It's difficult to stick to 3, I have a cheapo short fitted tweed jacket that I love and some heeled boots because I love a heel)

Things that don't work:

1.A wool/cashmere wrap coat. I bought it because I loved the mint green but it's too thick and bulky around my middle .an expensive mistake.
2.Scholl sandals....hideous,look like Birkenstocks ,feel ugly and short in them.
3. Wide legged grey wool flannel trousers I bought for work, make me feel frumpy and look bigger than I am.

Mignonette Tue 28-Jan-14 21:25:21

I am liking the sound of that yellow blouse and leopard cardigan worn with indigo jeans.

Mignonette Tue 28-Jan-14 21:31:31

I forgot what doesn't work for me. Hope you have all night.....

1. Lovely stretch red lace Alaia style dress fitted to waist and circle skirt. Sleeveles
