Bourjois nail varnish. Base coat, two thin coats and topcoat and it STILL didn't make it to lunchtime.

It's not made in the same factory as Chanel, it's made by chimps, out of sand and tippex.

DrNick Sun 12-Jan-14 13:37:19

thats a huge myth respouted all the time

Chanel is shit though so that proves nothing. I love the colors but as far as staying power they are some of the worst nail polishes I own. Bourjois are much better IMO.

ShatnersBassoon Sun 12-Jan-14 13:41:06

This reminds me of a 'fashion show' I went to in the village hall. Lots of the garments were made in the Chanel factory, apparently. Even the crimplene slacks hmm

ProjectGainsborough Sun 12-Jan-14 13:55:57

I'm sure Karl is spinning in his oxygen tent right now. grin

Chanel polish is utter cack so it well could be...

santamarianovella Sun 12-Jan-14 14:05:58

I'm not a huge wearer of nail varnish, but I did the mistake of thinking that because its chanel, it,must be something,it turned out to be a huge waste of money ,butter nail varnish are the best I tried.

trulyenoughnow Sun 12-Jan-14 14:09:09

Last week I bought 3 bourjois foundations (boots offer) having seen them on here with everyone saying they were just like Chanel etc etc. Well.... they are totally utterly shit. I can only presume that the posters recommending it have never tried a Chanel one? (And actually, the real Chanel ones are not all that either, and the eyeshadows are streaky crap). And I agree OP, the nailpolishes are like water.

Agree Chanel make pisspoor nail varnish. I find Rimmel as good as any!

zipzap Sun 12-Jan-14 14:10:04

Just because it's allegedly made in the same factory means diddly squat.

I'm guessing that most cosmetics factories have mixers that mix and squirters that squirt or dollop or pack down the make up into its packaging and that The equipment used to make the make up doesn't make a huge difference to the quality of the product, assuming you're talking about a range that is reasonable quality (safety wise) to be sold in the uk.

You'll note they've never claimed that it's made out of the same ingredients and/or to the same recipe as Chanel equivalents. That's way more important than them using the same factory!

rookiemater Sun 12-Jan-14 14:11:15

Agree with all, Chanel nail polishes are not great quality, nor in fact are Nail Inc. My fave brand is Avon Pro wear +, although the number of days it lasts depends on the colour.

ProjectGainsborough Sun 12-Jan-14 14:12:57

I get pretty good wear out of my rouge noir, TBF. I think the bourjois colours are good, very Chanel-like, but just shit staying power.

I might give Butter a go, then. Love their colours.

Chanel nail polish is rubbish. I've got the rouge noir because I love the colour but it has no staying power whatsoever. Worst nail polish I've ever had so I reckon they probably are made in the same factory as bourgeois wink

member Sun 12-Jan-14 14:48:19

Even if it's made in the same factory, a price per unit will have been specified by Bourgeois which being lower than Chanel, will have resulted in a less expensive mix of ingredients.

Bourjois is owned by the same parent company as Chanel. Some items are similar, but not most. The older Chanel colours are still good, but the newer ones are piss poor and come off straight away, they changed something about the formula for them according to my old manager and they went shit then. Dior nail varnish is quite good.

Vintagebeads Sun 12-Jan-14 14:53:31

I dunno though I'd say there isnt much in some product ingredients.I think packaging and paying for slebs in their ad campigns adds at more.
I like the foundation its nicer than the MAC and clinique I was using before.

TheCrackFox Sun 12-Jan-14 15:04:38

Chanel is one of the worst nail varnishes I have ever owned.

BringMeTea Sun 12-Jan-14 15:50:21

Another here who can attest that Chanel nail varnish is rubbish. I bought a pinky/nude and it just went on streaky and uneven. V upset at the outlay. Barry m's and OPI are pretty good.

Fairylea Sun 12-Jan-14 15:53:42

It's not a myth - they are made by the same parent company. In fact chanel make up is owned by bourjois. (I used to work for chanel and was trained at their make up headquarters in London bond street).

However - their nail polishes are sometimes brought in from other manufacturers, hence the quality being more hit and miss.

Eastpoint Sun 12-Jan-14 19:43:28

I've got a few new Chanel colours and they usually last about 5 days without chipping at all. I always use a base, 2 coats of colour & a top coat. Essie have great colours and you can get them at Boots now.

Revlon v good for reasonably cheap nail varnish.

PulpsNotFiction Sun 12-Jan-14 19:51:29

I like Essie too. They came up with some great names for them smile

Oh Chanel polishes are rubbish. H&M do great long lasting polishes.

evelynj Sun 12-Jan-14 20:09:11

I got a Calvin Klein varnish for £1.99 in b&m a couple of weeks ago & it's been on my toes with no chips for over a week. Nice coral tomato red colour too.

BikeRunSki Sun 12-Jan-14 20:13:52

One product bring made in the same factory as another dies not mean that they are frontage same production line. Or that they are made to the same standard, use the same ingredients or are subject to the same quality control. Just that they are made in the same building.

thefirstmrsrochester Sun 12-Jan-14 20:18:52

Another agreeing that Chanel nail polishes are rubbish. It took a long time & a lot of money to make me face up to this reality.

I have some OPI in similar colours to my fave Chanel ones and the OPI lasts better. I never get a full week though, even with base coat and top coat.

And even if they start out good, I find the quality quickly deteriorates the minute air hits it. Even storing in the fridge makes little difference.

Keep the cheapie recommendations coming smile

Mammabear31 Sun 12-Jan-14 20:24:14

MIL bought me a set of 3 nail varnishes from M&S at Christmas. I don't usually wear colours, normally just clear varnish but I have used them all in the last few weeks (a gold, green and purple set) and they have all lasted a good 5-6 days before showing any wear. Easy to apply too,
Just 2 thin coats and dries quickly. If I manage to forgive M&S for not delivering my 50p chair I will go in for my future nail varnishes grin

hiphipreplacement Sun 12-Jan-14 20:24:50

OPI and Essie are good. Rimmel Pro is great, too. Excellent value!

ygritte Sun 12-Jan-14 21:14:52

Anyone use China Glaze? They have hundreds of colours but I have no idea of their quality.

Eastpoint Sun 12-Jan-14 21:27:46

I'm not quite sure why I'm bothering to defend Chanel but I did these on Friday & have done a normal amount of washing up, cooking etc over the weekend. I think they'll be good for another 2 or 3 days. Inglot has good colours & are cheap.

GlitzAndGiggles Sun 12-Jan-14 21:43:38

Yup Chanel polish is a joke. Overpriced rubbish. Rimmel is long lasting for me

LittleBabyPigsus Sun 12-Jan-14 22:08:19

Put it this way - there can't be that many makeup factories around. Several brands being made at the same time makes sense, doesn't mean they're the same product any more than McVities and Fox's biscuits both being made in the same factory would make them the same biscuits (I know they're not made in the same factory, just an example).

M&S nail polish is great and all their own-brand makeup is bunny-friendly.

I do like the texture of Bourjois foundations but they aren't pale enough for me - they're very yellow. However this is good for under eye concealer as the yellow cancels out the purple tones.

Fairylea Sun 12-Jan-14 22:11:22

<when I worked on the make up counters we all used to use rimmel 60 seconds or an equivalent cheap one similar to the colours our brand sold and said it was that if a customer asked.... even with our 65% discounts clinique and chanel nail polishes were mostly not worth it!>

MmeLindor Sun 12-Jan-14 22:15:51

Chanel is crap.

I like Rimmel - the Salon Pro ones are very good and last a good week, I find.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter Sun 12-Jan-14 23:56:35

Sorry but grin

ProjectGainsborough
I'm sure Karl is spinning in his oxygen tent right now. grin

..........Laughed so much a little bit of wee came out

(also love Chanel colour but agree it's as thin as Karls neck)

zipzap Mon 13-Jan-14 09:46:05

Pound land is the place to look for nail varnish - I've had nice colours (although there are some strange ones) from places like revlon, Sally Hansen, opi as well as Rimmel and outdoor girl at a different level and then their own stuff.

And - especially for the nicer brands - it is all the nicer for only being a pound grin
