I need a new perfume but I'm very very choosy. Most perfume is too floral, sweet, sickly or heavy for me..I'd have no problem wearing an aftershave but I don't know which one so happy to wear either as long as it smells right. Only way I can describe it is sexy, clean/fresh smell...does anyone have any suggestions? Ive tried asking about citrusy fragrances but they are too fruity..I've asked shop assistants but they don't seem to get it and there's only so many you can try in one go

Tom ford all the way , love his aftershaves all smell fantastic. Tuscan leather stands out most it's really woody and smokey .

Helspopje Sun 05-Jan-14 22:00:42

creed himalaya or green irish tweed
yum

Paul Smith Men - the one in the stripey bottle
A couple of the CK men ones smell as you describe
Or if you are rich, Tom Ford - Tuscan Leather is the nicest smell in the entire world.

I had a penhaligans one that Churchill used to wear. Might have been vevitier?

Levantine Sun 05-Jan-14 22:04:29

Christian Dior eau savage is gorgeous. Very fresh and citrusy but not just lemony

Levantine Sun 05-Jan-14 22:05:02

Penhaligons gin one is nice

LovelyMarchHare Sun 05-Jan-14 22:05:12

Sorry, it was Blenheim Bouquet!

Levantine Sun 05-Jan-14 22:05:32

Juniper Sling it's called

Levantine Sun 05-Jan-14 22:05:48

Cross post!

ProfondoRosso Sun 05-Jan-14 22:08:55

Comme des Garcons original scent for women is quite aftershavey and it's gorgeous.

But the men's scent (Comme des Garcons 2) is even better. I wear that sometimes, DH has a bottle. Very musky, incense-y, smoky.

KOTK Sun 05-Jan-14 22:09:41

Dunhill Black. Absolutely divine.

PepeLePew Sun 05-Jan-14 22:11:58

Acqua di Parma is a very dry crisp citrus - not at all fruity and unisex. I love it.

thecatfromjapan Sun 05-Jan-14 22:13:01

Eau de Baux by l'Occitane is lovely.

i say this so often that it is becoming repetitious! but: Marks and Spencer have started selling all sorts of wonders in their Beauty section. The Fragonard Vetiver and Verveine colognes/eau de toilettes are lovely.

LovelyMarchHare Sun 05-Jan-14 22:13:32

Sorry, it was Blenheim Bouquet!

Bootoyou2 Sun 05-Jan-14 22:15:32

Have you tried issey miyake?

MissBattleaxe Sun 05-Jan-14 22:17:25

Jo Loves Pink Vetiver, or Guerlain Habit Rouge or Dior Fahrenheit.

MissBattleaxe Sun 05-Jan-14 22:17:58

Oh and Comme Des Garcons Series 2 Incense Avignon is utterly divine and I adore it.

woodrunner Sun 05-Jan-14 22:19:55

Penhaligon's Quercus is unisex - very fresh and really gorgeous. DH wears it.

L'Occitane's Jasmine and Verbena or their neat Verveine are very lemony and sharp - not at all sweet or fruity.

Eau de Givenchy smells like fresh bath water - very clean and unsweet. From memory, Eau de Gucci does too but I haven't smelled it in years.

the Clarins body spray in the blue bottle is lovely and fresh and so is Hollister's male body spray called Socal

GreyGardens Sun 05-Jan-14 22:19:55

Prada eau de toilette is gorgeous, fresh, sexy, unisex

ProfondoRosso Sun 05-Jan-14 22:25:15

Mmm, Incense Avignon is gorgeous, MissBattleaxe

thecatfromjapan Sun 05-Jan-14 22:25:43

Eau de Baux is woody, slightly medicinal, slightly incense-y by the way, not citrussy or fruity.

inmyheadimthequeen Sun 05-Jan-14 22:27:51

DH wears Bulgari Homme (the original one) which is lovely. I also nearly kissed a woman in a queue last year, she smelled so good. It was Thierry Mugler Angel but I tried it on me and it smelled completely different.

JetJungle Sun 05-Jan-14 22:30:37

Bulgari au The Rouge fits your OP perfectly IMO

HyvaPaiva Sun 05-Jan-14 22:32:38

Another vote for Penhaligon's Juniper Sling. From the bottle I thought 'fresh, citrusy, lovely' and bought it for DP. When it's on skin? Oh my wow. Weak at the knees! It's clean and crisp and fresh and yet sultry and filthy at the same time grin.

cardamomginger Sun 05-Jan-14 22:33:07

Try some of the Hermes Hermessence fragrances. They are unisex and there might be something there to suit.
Ormonde Jayne Zizan and Isfarkand might work for you too.

Jazzicatz Sun 05-Jan-14 22:34:04

Definitely worth trying Issey Miyake pour homme - just as you described and smells divine

Coconutty Sun 05-Jan-14 22:36:14

I wear Issey Miyake pour homme.

LovelyMarchHare Sun 05-Jan-14 23:03:39

I do like the idea of smelling more like gin.

Financeprincess Sun 05-Jan-14 23:35:24

Diorella. It has the same notes as Eau Sauvage.

Jaeme Mon 06-Jan-14 05:40:47

Mont Blanc - Presence D'Une Femme

Molton Brown Lijiang

Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche is also quite aftershavey

KosherBacon Mon 06-Jan-14 06:31:15

Bois Des Iles by chanel. Expensive but yummy.

clarequilty Mon 06-Jan-14 07:38:39

Habit Rouge by Geurlain

Primadonnagirl Mon 06-Jan-14 07:47:39

PedlarsSpanner Mon 06-Jan-14 07:57:13

No15 by liz earle is remarkable. V masculine and leathery.

DrNick Mon 06-Jan-14 08:03:49

i like eau sauvage and the Prada mens ones

also the Jean paul gaultier man

DrNick Mon 06-Jan-14 08:03:59

oh yes - liz earle 15 too

Another vote for Tom Ford.
Have you tried Grey Vetyver (sp?) - not as expensive as the Private collection (Tabacco Vanille my absolute favourite)

beachedwhalesarecool Mon 06-Jan-14 09:08:16

I like D&G no. 6 L'Amoureux.

GoodnessKnows Mon 06-Jan-14 09:25:02

Jo Malone '154'
their Pomegranate Noir is also lovely

cosikitty Mon 06-Jan-14 09:30:07

I wear Tom Ford Tuscan Leather, it is gorgeous!

LittleBabyPigsus Mon 06-Jan-14 10:06:47

Guerlain Habit Rouge or Vetiver.

L'Occitaine Vetyver.

Jean Paul Gaultier Homme

Maybe D&G Light Blue? It's very fresh and citrussy. Maybe try the men's version?

Pooka Mon 06-Jan-14 10:16:27

I wear eau sauvage. Also keen on aqua di Parma.

TinyDiamond Mon 06-Jan-14 10:32:32

What is your budget? it is sooooo expensive but creed vetyver is the nicest smell in the world. slightly discounted on cheap smells. I'm saving up for myself!

TinyDiamond Mon 06-Jan-14 10:34:40

lovelymarchhare try Jo Malone earl Grey and cucumber. reminds me of a Hendricks and tonic! yum.

Housewife2010 Mon 06-Jan-14 10:39:59

Diptyque do many unisex scents., Tarocco is lovely - orangey with a touch of spice. (My husband and I share a bottle) Vetyverio is good too. Look on ww.wFragrantica.com for further reviews. Many Diptyque scents are half price at Space NK at the moment.

ProfondoRosso Mon 06-Jan-14 11:53:00

Diptyque is a good shout, Housewife. Tam Dao is a great spicy scent, quite masculine.

Housewife2010 Mon 06-Jan-14 13:09:43

Thanks ProfondoRosso. Tam Dao is half price at Space NK. I'm waiting for my bottle to arrive.

LittleBabyPigsus Mon 06-Jan-14 13:22:03

This is really lovely, and IMO totally unisex.

Ujjayi Mon 06-Jan-14 13:29:20

Petit Grain by Miller Harris is gorgeous. Definitely masculine & clean smelling. Citrus topnotes settle to a lovely rich, deep aroma. Am deeply inhaling from my wrist as I type!

ProfondoRosso Mon 06-Jan-14 14:11:14

Oh that's great, Housewife! I hope you like it - I love it.

OP, have you smelled Lyn Harris's range for Marks and Spencer? Her scents for men (Le Sauvage, Le Noir) are gorgeous and only about £25 a bottle. I bought my DH L'air de rien from her own Miller Harris main line and it's lovely. It's meant to smell kind of like ink, tobacco and writing paper. It was created for Jane Birkin but it's very androgynous.

SundaySimmons Mon 06-Jan-14 15:00:02

Not a mans one

Fragonard vetiver

http://www.marksandspencer.com/Fragonard-Naturelles-Vetiver-Toilette-100ml/dp/B003FCY86W

Excellent sillage. I also have the patchouli one and Fragonard by Fragonard.

They are such good value for money.

My favourite male fragrance was Aramis Devin. I used to wear it many moons ago.

Elizabeth1960 Mon 06-Jan-14 16:10:55

Bond 9 the scent of peace is green, fresh but also light & fresh expensive though..

lilaloves Mon 06-Jan-14 16:14:31
