So is anyone else already thinking... "After Christmas I'll start cutting carbs/ using night cream every night/ waxing more regularly"?

I'm letting myself go now, but after Xmas I have promised myself to

- have a good wardrobe clear out and be honest with myself about what doesn't fit

- start yoga again

- get into a better skincare routine

- wear make up even when I am not at work so I actually use my non- work make up like bold eyeliner, wine coloured lipstick etc

I've started by clearing off my vanity table and putting all my make up that I never wear into a bag to take to see my DSisses tomorrow - some of it is brand new and I just didn't get on with it.

Is anyone else making resolutions in their heads?

guccigirly Sat 21-Dec-13 19:20:21

I decided yesterday to make an effort in the New Year to try the 5:2 diet, wear moisturiser at night instead of a full face of make up for bed and to try and not wear jeans at least twice a week. I invest so much time helping my family and others that I often neglect myself.

Go running at least twice a week. Intend to make dp drag me out, whatever my excuse.

Sort out my manky hands. How though?

RevoltingPeasant Sat 21-Dec-13 19:23:39

The moisturiser one is good! I just discovered Loreal purifying gel wash which gets my make up right off and makes my skin feel nice.

You could also iron your jeans so you feel smarter in them smile

I spend my life at work so only have smart work clothes and work make up!

RevoltingPeasant Sat 21-Dec-13 19:24:41

What do you find manky about them Remus?

I need to do my feet but am afraid they are truly beyond help sad

They are looking old and skinny and a bit witch-like. sad

Flexitol for feet - and the S&G foot file.

guccigirly Sat 21-Dec-13 19:27:42

After years of buying Clarins moisturiser I decided to be a bit thrifty and buy Nivea blue container moisturiser a couple of weeks ago. Huge tub for under £5. It's fantastic.

I work from home, so only have to wear suits for occasional meetings. Think if I lose weight on 5:2 diet, I may turn into Boden wearing yummy mummy, but doubt it !

soaccidentprone Sat 21-Dec-13 19:29:31

I use this on my hands at night.

It's lovely and smells divine grin

KosherBacon Sat 21-Dec-13 19:36:49

Continue with weight watchers. Once I get to goal to promise myself to go once a month in order to keep at that weight and not gain.

Once I get to goal I am going to have a HoC style day.

I am going to remember to follow Caroline Hiroms blog as my skin looks so much better when I buy it.

I will not buy clothes that are "ok"' "will do" or will last one season. I vow to only buy if I think it is perfect and it is well made and will last. Quality not quantity.

Alchemist Sat 21-Dec-13 19:37:50

Mine started early as DH left in November and I have been clearing as much out as possible. My local charity shop has received tonnes of clothes, shoes and books!

As I have spread out into two wardrobes I have gone through everything. Either charity shop/ebay (Have a friend coming over in Jan to teach me the ways of ebay)/or throw. A happy side effect has been that I have lost almost 2 stone and can wear a lot of clothes I haven't worn in a while so I am actually enjoying thinking about what to wear etc. I am into slathering moisturiser everywhere and my skin is looking and feeling much better. Face still looks grey but am piling on the blusher, probably look like a Dutch doll!

MrsCampbellBlack Sat 21-Dec-13 19:40:07

To lose some weight so my lovely clothes fit me.

To get fit.

Remus - I've started using hand chemistry and its very good.

Alchemist Sat 21-Dec-13 19:40:47

Sorry, didn't say what my resolutions are:

Keep weight off and exercise more.
Moisturise all the time.
Try to find a newish look for me and hope that 2014 will come good in the end.

MrsDavidBowie Sat 21-Dec-13 19:47:23

Last year I made a real effort to feel good physically
I lost a stone and kept it off, and dropped a dress size. I am at my optimum weight.
I look after my skin which is one of my best assets.
I went to a makeup counter and got some great products which make me look better!

What I want to do in 2014 is not keep clothes for best, but wear what I have in more imaginative ways.
Learn how to do cuticles are shit although my actual nails are good.

Leviticus Sat 21-Dec-13 19:51:46

So many...

Get back into pre DC shape as far as possible - lack of body confidence is getting me down.

Stop biting my nails/pulling at my eyebrows and lashes - no idea why I do this anyway.

Start some facial exercises to fend off the jowls.

YY to only buying things that are great - current wardrobe is awash with faded vest tops, bobbly cardigans and saggy arsed jeans.

Learn how to use hard wax myself to save some money.

Thanks for the handcream recs. I usually use Clarins or Aveda but can't just the expense at the moment, so the Hand Chemistry is out, I'm afraid.

TinyDiamond Sat 21-Dec-13 19:55:51

I AM going to:

drink more water.

2 fast days a week.

Go to pilates once a week, yoga once a week and run once a week.

Carry on with my skincare routine to try and sort it out once and for all.

Stop drinking so much and drink water, herbal tea or some other shit instead.

I will fit into my old high waisted jeans from before I had dd!

novelsituation Sat 21-Dec-13 19:55:53

Been here before and failed spectacularly, but am planning to make no clothing/ shoe/ accessory purchases in 2014. Am not in debt, but spend far too much on clothes, DD1 will be going to uni and now's the time to rein it in.
I can buy necessary sports stuff and tights but that's it.

Also plan to keep up Body Combat ( love it) and paint nails more often.

RevoltingPeasant Sat 21-Dec-13 19:58:31

Alchemist sorry about your DH flowers

How do you plan on finding your new look?

Kosher yy to that - I am always trying something on and thinking, yeah okay - I need to wait for that "ooh I look pretty in this" moment even if it means I go home empty handed froma shopping trip!

Also need to lose weight.

Feet almost certainly beyond help. DH and I go walking a lot and I did a three day trip with him in the summer and buggered my big toenail which is now coming off sad I really hope it grows back sad currently have a deep brown/red in my toenails to hide the horrible bruising and ickiness but fear it's about to get worse!

RevoltingPeasant Sat 21-Dec-13 20:00:51

Tiny check out Pukka teas for non caff herbal teas, their 3 cinnamon is divine and also vanilla chai and loads of others! I have converted most of my office.

bigkidsdidit Sat 21-Dec-13 20:02:08

I'm going to hand wash all my wool and stop chucking it in the machine. And possibly my bras too.

Hexbugsmakemeitch Sat 21-Dec-13 20:11:11

Lose weight

Get more sleep (averaging about 4.5 hrs at the mo)

Get more exercise

Capsule wardrobe

They are all connected really...

TallulahBetty Sat 21-Dec-13 20:22:30

Get to target at Slimming World and stay there.

And finally beat my trichotillomania once and for all.

Just not justify.

Oh and finally (gawd knows how) find some more good basic tops which suit me and somehow minimise norkage. Holy Grail though, I think.

MostlyCake Sat 21-Dec-13 21:18:24

Healthy eating - never dieting again but need to lose weight....!

Exercise at all more

chuck crappy clothes which were bought because they fitted not because I liked them.

Body scrub and moisturise 3x a week

shave my legs more often than once in a blue moon

learn how to blow dry my hair so it isn't a massive frizz ball, can't be that hard surely?

Mumelie Sat 21-Dec-13 22:25:13

Oh so many. .....

Firstly get my eating back under control - I'd like to lose the few lbs I've gained in December and another stone if possible. I usually do WW but like a bit of low carb in the summer.

Secondly stop spending so much on clothes! I have masses and do not need anything more (after the sales that is wink ).

Then I'd like to find a hair color that actually stays in my hair - salon or home dye job - it all ends up blonde and I want a light brown.

Other things that need work are my nails, my eyebrows (woefully lazy there) and could start some exercise.

Francois Sat 21-Dec-13 22:37:45

Lose a couple of stone and more importantly tone up
Keep on with pilates and swimming/gym 2/3 times a week
No more clothes unless absolutely necessary. Trying to go with less but better quality but still seem to keep buying.
More water, less diet coke, less sugar

MyMILisfromHELL Sun 22-Dec-13 08:52:50

Tone up

Eliminate sugar from diet

Eat more veg & fruit

Drink more water throughout the day, not just in the morning/when I remember

Figure out my dressing style

Buy quality over quantity (don't know where to start!)

SundaySimmons Sun 22-Dec-13 08:59:33

I fancy growing my hair. It grows quickly and is two inches below my shoulders, so will see how it goes.

Might have another go at having it lighter in colour.

AlaskaNebraska Sun 22-Dec-13 09:00:43

Lol at tone up. All you need to do is eat less. We all know that every year grin

MarshaBrady Sun 22-Dec-13 09:05:09

Keep exercising.

Buy stuff I need first, including something for a nice lunch in the middle of dressy and everyday.

Buy pale suede with caution.

QueenCadbury Sun 22-Dec-13 09:09:36

Cut back on chocolate and sugar in general to see if it improves my pmt
Give up booze for January (I try every year but fail fgrin)
Continue to buy only clothes I love rather than will do
Stop saving things for best

Drink more water.
Take off make up before bed.
Lose some weight and eat more healthily.
Stop buying cheap crappy clothes.

Saurus72 Sun 22-Dec-13 09:32:22

Lose 1 stone by Easter. Continue to pare down my wardrobe by donating/ selling stuff through dress agencies. To really love every piece of clothing I buy to avoid having a wardrobe full of blah, and to go to the gym 3x a week. To not buy any more nail polish until I have used up my current stock.

Floisme Sun 22-Dec-13 11:04:22

To stop bleating about fast fashion ethics and start voting with my wallet. I love clothes but I am sick and tired of retailers (high end as well as low) outsourcing all control of their supply chains then wringing their hands when caught out.

I am researching online ethical retailers. There is more choice than I realized and, while not everything is to my taste, it is by no means entirely handwoven from lentils. And there is a range of price points, although obviously nothing is dirt cheap. I'm not pretending I will give up the high street but, if an ethical company has what I want, I will buy from them.

That looks a bit pathetic written down but it's a case of small steps.

Floisme Sun 22-Dec-13 14:02:07 I hope that didn't put a damper on all the fun chat. My other resolution is to learn how to put on lipstick grin

BitchyFestiveFace Sun 22-Dec-13 14:45:05

Have a clothing clear-out

Lose half a stone

Stop giving in to ridiculous compulsion to buy multiples of favourite clothes hmm

Use up all the toiletries I have amassed before buying any more!

JoanRanger Sun 22-Dec-13 14:50:55

Keep exercising.

Buy no more cosmetics or clothes till at least March.

aprilmay Sun 22-Dec-13 18:07:45

My resolutions are about being a bit more 'me' again. I let myself down a bit this year and so will be getting myself back to normal by:

1. Wear my beautiful lipsticks when on a night out.
2. Wear the clothes in my wardrobe.
3. Only buy things that I love.
4. Keep up the weight loss.
5. Drink more water.

Corygal Sun 22-Dec-13 18:22:12

1. Wear The Clothes of Shame ie the beautiful stuff I've already got - do not leave McQueen jackets languishing unworn at the back of the wardrobe while belting out in a Primark pacamac.

2. Get feet measured. Can they really have grown 2 sizes since I was 20?

3. If making a new purchase, consider how it will look covered in tabby fur prior to payment. Foolproof spending contraceptive.

1.Carry on losing weight
2.Only buy things I love, not ones that will do
3.Make an effort with hair and make up

Matsikula Sun 22-Dec-13 18:58:37

More sleep, more exercise, less sugar, more haircuts, more wardrobe detox.

I've been writing down all clothes purchases for the last 2 years and it has made a big differnce to my spending habits (my goal was to buy less, but not necessarily to spend less). However, I recently re-acquired a load of stuff my parents were binning and my wardrobe has got out of c

Matsikula Sun 22-Dec-13 19:01:59

OOPs my wardrobe has now got out of control again.

What I definitely don't need is more winter hats or any more scarves - I have way too many - and people keep buying me more.

I might write 'no scarves or hats' at the top of next year's spending diary.

DolomitesDonkey Mon 23-Dec-13 05:28:12

This year I've blow dried nearly each and every time and yesterday was the first day in I don't know how long I wasn't wearing make-up.

For 2014:
1. Continue with the hair + face but expand to include lipstick.
2. Another one needing to sort out manky hands.
3. Find somewhere I can get sheepskin mittens where the wool isn't torn from a live animal's body - suggestions anyone? sad
4. I'm pretty happy with my buy less/more quality regime.
5. Lose 4 stone.

rusmum Tue 24-Dec-13 08:02:24

Run twice a week. Stop drinking alcohol for whole of 2014, decal utter wardrobe

TeaJunky Wed 25-Dec-13 14:17:58

Have more sex.

Have more sleep.

Have more fun.

Lovewhereilive Wed 25-Dec-13 21:01:18

Ditch the sugar and go low carb, need to shift some weight.

Try and exercise more,do a bit now but never enough.

Have my eyebrows shaped.

Buy a decent leather handbag.

Have a massage.

Theonlyoneiknow Wed 25-Dec-13 21:50:50

This is a good way to write down what I intend to do and can come back to it if I stray!

Get fit again, pre DC I did loads of sports but I need to try and prioritise exercise over watching the telly. That will mean I can wear all my clothes rather than half my wardrobe being banished to the spare room because I can't do the buttons up.

Learn how to apply make up properly rather than just slap on some tinted moisturiser, grey eyeliner and mascara every day.

Sort out a hairstyle, possibly go for the chop?!!

Theonlyoneiknow Wed 25-Dec-13 21:51:49

Oh and stop plucking my eyebrows!! They will never grow back though but I need to pack it in. Might try some if that rapid lash serum on them ??

cardamomginger Wed 25-Dec-13 23:47:22

wear make up

Eliza22 Thu 26-Dec-13 21:55:33

Have had 3 days "off" my daily exercise and MyFitnessPal, so am aware that any more, and I'll be back where I started. Have lost a stone and a half and it's been wonderful. The best bit? Not having to worry about what to put on..... everything fits!

So, I'm back to it after the holidays!

alemci Thu 26-Dec-13 23:05:58

try to paint my nails regularly so they look nice.

use face packs

use up all my stuff before buying more

sugar4eva Thu 26-Dec-13 23:34:15

Have noticed a couple of references to buying les s but better quality clothes on this thread.were to buy please?!

PosyNarker Thu 26-Dec-13 23:39:16

Oh I need to lose 2 stone.

I had reasons before but now I have REASONS.

Emerge from the baby years and reclaim myself .... grin

Get some new bloody shoes / boots - stop looking such a scruff
Decent make up / skin care every day
Early nights
Shag DH regularly again but don't get pregnant
Stop frowning / stressing
Get hair done before it looks witchy woo rather than wait til it looks shit
No sugar
5:2 diet to shift final 10 pounds
Swimming / yoga

Be brutal and have huge clear out of wardrobe - 90% is no longer fit for purpose. I still have my power suits from ten years ago - look as dated as something Melanie Griffiths would wear in working girl.
