Whether it's a work party, Christmas drinks, NYE thing - what's your lovely festive outfit of choice?

Need some inspiration...

Nothing at this rate.

Oxblood leather skinnies I bought in Vegas, and either a mad Christmas sweater, or a glittery top,

TwllBach Fri 06-Dec-13 22:50:07

One of the two dresses on my profile I would imagine... Or I have a red one a similar shape to the navy one... but what the picture doesn't show you in the navy one is my massive gut that over hangs sad my arms and my bust/rib area is thinner now than in the picture, but my dirty great stomach jsut sticks out like I'm pregnant.

TwllBach Fri 06-Dec-13 22:51:44

OH! I missed the picture thing...

TwllBach Fri 06-Dec-13 22:52:55

or this one...

Oooh just remembered I've acquired a pair of glitzy irregular choice shoe boots, so I'll be wearing those! They're in black and gold, so prolly a plain black dress, with a gold stole.

Hohohowhatfuckeryitis Fri 06-Dec-13 22:54:00

this. but it is really heavy and worried its going to be too hot and tight. but looks good.

CointreauVersial Fri 06-Dec-13 22:59:07

I have a pair of silvery cigarette trousers from Next which I shall probably wear with a black Monsoon top, kitten heels and a sparkly necklace.

I hate dressing up for evening dos, I never seem to have the right things to wear.

burnishedsilver Fri 06-Dec-13 23:06:04

It's not a very dressy affair.

I wore this to our Xmas party, was at a posh hotel so wanted to look classy - it is a really lovely dress for the price but I stupidly didn't try it on and could barely breathe all night as it came up so small!

Financeprincess Sat 07-Dec-13 06:43:11

Black & white sleeveless knitted dress from Karen Millen. Makes me feel like a snowflake!

Have ended up with a choice of a gold, glittery Anglomania, a Tiffany blue/green DVF or a cheapy cobalt ASOS number. Will make decision on the day.

gindrinker Sat 07-Dec-13 16:42:31

Lunch - floral play suit with black tights and tan brogues.
Dinner and drinking - navy and black lace tulip dress. Not sure about shoes... Might be my ankle boots?

Xmas day - jeans and a Woolie jumper... We dont do dressing up.

MissMillament Sat 07-Dec-13 16:47:03

This dress which Cremolafoam pointed me at last week. It arrived yesterday and it is fab-u-lous. The little gold studs are festive without being in any way OTT.

Pinupgirl Sat 07-Dec-13 17:31:49

Have 2 nights out-

1st-vivien of Holloway Jezebel dress in black cherry print. To be worn with red glitter red or dead shoes and nude seamed stockings.
2nd-vivien of Holloway Grace dress in red duchess satin. To be worn with black seamed stockings and black satin and velvet peep toe shoes.

MissMillament Sat 07-Dec-13 18:29:06

Sounds amazing Pinupgirl. I love VoH dresses whenever I see them linked to on here. Must be brave and try one out one day.

Workberk Sat 07-Dec-13 23:34:37

Ooh great outfits here. Loving the green dresses - there's not enough green! Tempted by the Topshop number to wear with thick tights and ankle boots.

Have ordered half of Asos today though so will see how we get on there first...

Anglomania shift dress and extra-strength Spanx or Damsel In A Dress silk paisley thing.

But the temptation to sprint to Holloway in a lunchbreak is quite strong. Would any of their dresses work for a short pearshape size 10/12, small of waist, square of shoulder, small of nork?

sleepdodger Sun 08-Dec-13 08:40:31

Taffeta skirt from topshop in deep red
Vest from h&m
Makes my waist look teeny tiny because the prom style hides a multitude of sins
Fabulous black animal tights
Super shoes
Minimal make up
Red lips
Prosecco in hand always ;-)

nilbyname Sun 08-Dec-13 08:40:52

Workbert the green dress is super comfy and I wore it last night and go loads of compliments.

EvilRingahBitch Sun 08-Dec-13 09:06:11

How long is the green dress nilby? Most of these dresses (including the fabulous Almost Famous one, which I swooned over) reveal too much leg, but given that the model in the Top Shop picture is 6 inches taller than me, I thought it might be a possibility.

Pinupgirl Sun 08-Dec-13 09:11:30

Hi evil-I think the vivien halterneck pencil dresses would be a good fit for your figure. They have some boning in them so shape the bust but go in at the waist so are very flattering. You can buy matching boleros too if you don't like to show your upper arms.

If you have a look at their fb page they have lots of photos of customers wearing her dresses so you might get some inspiration.

HoHolepew Sun 08-Dec-13 09:14:25

Those are all lovely!

I havw a black aline type shift dress from M&S Autograph thats a few years old though I've only worn it twice. Its black with chiffon sleeves and dark beading around the neckline and cuffs. I wear it with nude micro fishnests and high leopard print shoes. I'm skint so can't really buy anything.

But I do have a £20 Dorothy Perkibns voucher and now I'm tempted to go and look for that dress...

EvilRingahBitch Sun 08-Dec-13 09:28:11

Thanks pinup. I really am very pearshaped so was being a bit cowardly in preferring a sticky out skirt, but pencil skirts can look good on me if I can find one to fit (I normally have to get them altered).

Gosh I am quite tempted.

CointreauVersial Sun 08-Dec-13 09:33:48

Notannabell that Almost Famous dress is gorgeous, especially the raspberry colourway.

foxysocks Sun 08-Dec-13 09:36:10

i have three nights out so far. outfit choices include

champagne sequin tee with black skinnies
navy embellished dress with opaques and ankle boots
black drapey all saints mini dress with heels
black anglomania dress with opaques and ankle boots (can't wear this with heels, too weddingy)

they are all with different groups of people so may wear one outfit more than once, or one to all three.

EvilRingahBitch Sun 08-Dec-13 11:21:24

OK, I've tried on every dress in my wardrobe (and rediscovered the gorgeous Save the Children fund BCBG sundress I'd totally forgotten about grin). The Anglomania dress remains the most beautiful and flattering thing ever, so I have to wear that, but it is unlined and I've gained 5 pounds since I bought it so there are thigh / VPL issues.

Talk to me about Spanx people. Please? Are the M&S ones good? Do John Lewis do them? Can you try them on in store or do you have to make a wild guess at sizing, and if the latter do you go for the size you are or the size you need to be?

Red Topshop skirt sounds fab.

I still haven't decided. I wanted to buy something new but have hated everything I've tried on.

I have:

Whistles split midi tube skirt with purple silk Westwood draped top
Black Anglomania dress but I always wear it and it's too big
Whistles mini tube skirt and leopard print chiffon top
Same leopard top plus shorts and opaques
Various heels/ankle boots

Dilidali Sun 08-Dec-13 11:46:41

Fenn Wright Manson wrap dress.
Joules navy mock wrap dress.
Boden black mock wrap dress.

All of them with black shoes/knee lenght boots and a mahoosive red silk shawl.
They are all very old items in my wardrobe, but I love them.

Workberk Sun 08-Dec-13 22:35:50

I'm jealous of all your Anglomania dresses! Which style do you all have?

piratecat Sun 08-Dec-13 22:47:22

i have an above the knee navy dress with hearts print on it. the hearts are a reddy/dark pinky colour.

i have searched for some sort of footwear for two weeks. I cannot find anything.

i can't wear high heels. am short.

i was thinking thick black tights for a retro look (kinda me) and thought shoeboots might be the way to go. again i can't find any. i would love some ruby red comfy mid heels for contrast.

Going to end up in a pair of trousers at this rate (which i also haven't got!!) as i have some little kittens heels that are nice. I wanted to look like a girl tho.

piratecat Sun 08-Dec-13 22:50:41

this is it, if anyone has any ideas what to put with it.

lumpolead Sun 08-Dec-13 22:56:35

There are various images on that link piratecat?

piratecat Sun 08-Dec-13 23:19:42

hi sorry. it's the navy one hanging up. tea dress with hearts. anyway i just tried it on and it's too tight around the waistblush . back to the old drawing board.

GinRickey Mon 09-Dec-13 11:05:08
Stokey Mon 09-Dec-13 13:57:55

Mine was on Friday. I wore Billion dollar baby red dress from Deadly is the female and a black velvet blazer, black tights and black patent heels. Got loads of compliments on the dress, recommended on here so thank you S&B.

This is my Anglomania dress. It's nicer irl, I think - but too big for me, so I can't wear it (and I always flipping wear it anyway!).

EvilRingahBitch Mon 09-Dec-13 18:25:48

Here you go. Looks like a damp dishcloth, so you'll have to take my word for it that it really does look great on.

Lovely. My purple top is pretty much that in top form.

Steinerino Mon 09-Dec-13 19:00:27

I bought an Anglomania black dress in the sales last year. I was very excited only to put it on and discover that it emphasised my problem stomach area! I am slim apart from that and it made me look slightly pregnant! I was gutted and had to send it back.

Does anyone with an Anglomania dress have a problem stomach but still look good in it? It may be that I needs to try another variety.

DuckToWater Mon 09-Dec-13 19:07:59

I wore this for one do. Not as plain as it looks there, has chiffon sleeves. With black tights and ankle boots.

I have a problem stomach - along with problem norks, problem thighs, problem bum etc etc. smile I wear sucker inner tights with mine.

Steinerino Mon 09-Dec-13 19:31:44

As I expected then Remus, I think I'd hoped it would have magical qualities and be able to disguise my belly without the need for scaffolding. It was not to be!

wonderstuff Mon 09-Dec-13 19:32:06

To a black tie do. I'm worried it's a bit too much, I've a a feather clutch to match. The dress was £18 at TKMaxx, the feather collar is Biba.

EvilRingahBitch Mon 09-Dec-13 19:49:43

Afraid my stomach is the only part of me that is not problematic, so cannot advise.

EvilRingahBitch Mon 09-Dec-13 19:51:09

Feather collar on frock is EPIC. You must wear it.

Pinupgirl Mon 09-Dec-13 19:53:37

wonderstuff-that looks amazing! You must wear it.

Love the collar. I yearn for an opportunity to wear feathers. smile

wonderstuff Mon 09-Dec-13 20:16:48

Cool, thanks guys, I was worried it was close to fancy dress, loved it in the shop, felt self-conscious on. But definitely will wear, got gold bangles and a mate that does amazing nail art.

Beaverfeaver Mon 09-Dec-13 21:44:14

Jeans and a jumper, it will be freezing. We are going go karting

Gumps Mon 09-Dec-13 21:51:46

Also wearing it to a glitzy Jsnuary wedding. Thoughts? Also what to wear on my feet and legs. Think bare legs and closed toe shoes.

TheBuskersDog Tue 10-Dec-13 00:12:54

I'm wearing French Connection, I thought I might actually get more than one wear out of it which is what normally happens when I buy a party dress.

rubyrubyruby Tue 10-Dec-13 04:13:00

My company don't do glamour

Workberk Tue 10-Dec-13 07:37:23

Gumps I have some dark grey patent All Saints heels with a silver heel - they'd go well with that dress I think. V nice.

nilbyname Tue 10-Dec-13 09:12:09

Sorry, meant to.

Gumps Tue 10-Dec-13 19:29:54

Thanks Workberk I will have a look.
