No it is not! It is a FABULOUS dress!

HappyHugs Wed 20-Nov-13 23:13:03

I agree that its fab....just dont want to look like I'm trying to look 21, I'm not!

Floisme Thu 21-Nov-13 07:21:51

It looks great, why do you think it might be too young? It's frilly but the black stops it from being 'little girly'.

Bunbaker Thu 21-Nov-13 07:24:42

No. I don't like it but it wouldn't make me think someone else shouldn't wear it.

CuntyBunty Thu 21-Nov-13 07:30:27

I want it and would wear it if I was smaller of nork. Wear it and enjoy it, it's gorgeous and quirky, rather than young. Just the look I like.

MrsKoala Thu 21-Nov-13 08:52:59

Oh i love it. I am 37 (size 12 and good legs) and would wear it in a heartbeat. In fact i have an xmas party to go to and i may buy it.

My only concern for me would be that I am 5ft 10in, do you think it may be indecently short on me?

princessalbert Thu 21-Nov-13 08:53:04

It's gorgeous! If you have the legs then definitely get it!!

princessalbert Thu 21-Nov-13 08:54:56

MrsKoala I imagine the model in the pic is about that height too.

Preciousbane Thu 21-Nov-13 08:57:24

Sorry I don't like it, what is the occasion?

houmousandcarrotsandwich Thu 21-Nov-13 09:35:14

I really like it. Your not too old for it!
It's quirky but at the same time looks good. Go for it!

PantsInWash Thu 21-Nov-13 09:39:25

Go for it - it looks fabulous! If I had an occasion to wear something similar, I would (and I'm 48 sad)

I don't like it at all, but of course you're not too old for it.

LittleTulip Thu 21-Nov-13 09:54:46

You're not too old for it

But I don't like it. Looks a bit Adams Family Morticia

I think it looks a bit Abigail's party or Penelope Keith from the Good Life.

BUT I don't like frills and flounces, that's just my personal taste, I think it's a perfect dress for someone in their late 30s.

MrsKoala Thu 21-Nov-13 10:32:10

I personally would prefer it if it was Abigails Party orange or a pink like Margo Leadbetter would wear. I think it would look great in a pucci pattern too - the only thing wrong with it for me is the colour. I like this one too and it's a more interesting colour - i may order both and see what i think when on! My mum thinks it would be way too short on me tho sad Curse my tallness.

DuckToWater Thu 21-Nov-13 10:34:34

No, it's lovely. I would wear/would have worn it it at 20 or 38.

DuckToWater Thu 21-Nov-13 10:37:15

Would look great with black opaque tights with a silver sheen on them and silver or black shoes. You could wear a brooch with it or have something in your hair.

MrsKoala Thu 21-Nov-13 10:45:03

i think black opaques would ruin (they ruin it on the model) the look. They really tone down the prettiness of the edging when it sits on the thigh. I would will wear it with nude sheeny tights and red heels and a red clutch. Not sure about jewellery tho hmmm.

Bonsoir Thu 21-Nov-13 10:46:18

I hate black dresses! It's truly vile!

Branleuse Thu 21-Nov-13 10:48:01

fabulous

Missbopeep Thu 21-Nov-13 11:00:48

Depends when you 'd wear it. It's quite OTT imo, with all the frills and it's not the kind of dress again imo that you could wear often. I don't think you are too old but I don't like it that much- it's very 'girly' and not that great. sorry sad

Missbopeep Thu 21-Nov-13 11:02:30

I think they have overdone the frills- sleeves OR hemline would be lovely, but both is overkill.

HappyHugs Thu 21-Nov-13 11:06:04

Thank you all, what a diverse bunch we are. Its a love/hate thing for this dress. I dont see the frills as girly, more quirky imo but its interesting that thats how others see it.

changeforthebetter Thu 21-Nov-13 11:08:47

Loathe the dress but if you like it - enjoy! wine

FluffyJumper Thu 21-Nov-13 13:14:42

I thnk it it's fine - so long as you don't go overboard on the accessories. In fact I think that any jewlery at all would tip it over the edge.

Sparky tights and silver shoes with a dress like this would be fine if you're under 30 or going for an 'eccentric' vibe.

But that's just my opinion (only discovered Style and Beauty recently and not sure how tactful we're supposed to be smile)

lifesgreatquestions Thu 21-Nov-13 13:16:47

I don't like it but I can see a woman of any age wearing it actually, I think you'll be fine - and am envious of those with good legs!

DuckToWater Thu 21-Nov-13 13:19:07

I'm 38 and would still do silver shoes - I don't worry about age or fashion though, I think about what suits me.

Twit Thu 21-Nov-13 13:23:48

On some people it would look amazing, on me ridiculous. If you like it, go for it.

wordfactory Thu 21-Nov-13 15:55:43

Yikes!

Not my cup of tea. But nowt to do with age. If you like it OP, go for it.

Twinklestein Thu 21-Nov-13 16:06:45

I don't think it will be very flattering: the frills on the skirt make the model's hip look like it sticks out.

It's a bit Alex Gerard...

Preciousbane Thu 21-Nov-13 16:59:03

But what is the dress for? What is the do? Or is it a general frock for out and about at some point but not sure when.

JapaneseMargaret Thu 21-Nov-13 18:02:26

Fluffy - I think the general rule is to be as tactful as you would be if you were speaking to someone in real life, so you're fine. grin

I'm 5"10' and though I'm a size 10, I think it'd look slightly drag queen-ish on me, which is a shame, as I really like it. I love the Margot Leadbetter vibe it gives off though, yep, she would definitely wear it in a bright colour!

suebfg Thu 21-Nov-13 18:03:45

It's cute - I like it!

bigbrick Thu 21-Nov-13 18:08:27

lovely dress

MrsDeVere Thu 21-Nov-13 18:11:10

All that frouf would annoy the hell out of me but of course you can wear it!

HappyHugs Thu 21-Nov-13 18:36:36

Lol its not gor anything in particular, xmas nights out maybe, just a lbd to add to the collection...for those who hate it please show me your perfect party dress...intrigued!

MrsDeVere Thu 21-Nov-13 19:04:29

Not my ideal all time but I really like this.

sparkly

HappyHugs Thu 21-Nov-13 19:22:48

I like that too MrsDeV. I have bought one quite like it with perhaps more structure (support for lumps and bumps)...

MrsDeVere Thu 21-Nov-13 19:56:52

That one would entail some seriously complicated bra arrangement.

So I wouldn't buy it. I think the same thing with a higher back and neck line would be perfect.

I don't like it, sorry. I think it would make most people look like a slightly deranged lampshade.

FluffyJumper Thu 21-Nov-13 20:17:21

Fucking hellfire, there's not many people could get away with that dress MrsDeV!

LostMarbles99 Thu 21-Nov-13 20:21:18

It looks like one of those nighties that people would wear with ostrich feather slippers, you know the ones with a heel?!

Sorry op!

Nope, don't like it but the question was about you age and I'd say if you like it, wear it, what age you are doesn't matter!

PosyNarker Thu 21-Nov-13 21:30:27

Don't see the issue. It's a bit girly and a bit goth so depends on your personal look IMO, more than your age.

Back2Two Thu 21-Nov-13 21:56:32

It makes me think of unusual funghi
Or jellyfish.

FunnyRunner Thu 21-Nov-13 22:44:08

I think it's lovely smile

Eastpoint Fri 22-Nov-13 05:50:33

It looks really pretty & would be great with short hair or long hair put up. V easy to wear to work Xmas party/partners Xmas party as it isn't too revealing. My only concern would be the sleeves getting in the way if you were having dinner.
