In really liking the ones in the shops atm, but im a bit scared of looking like dorian from birds of a feather.

Worth buying or not?

frankietwospots Mon 30-Sep-13 09:44:42

Yes! I bought the PU front panel ones from Next (ok, so not real leather) and they are fab!

I got a size 8 and they are just right.

Think you have to dress them down though...think long chunky knit or a simple long Breton. I would have to have something that covers my bum as I don't like leggings worn as trousers. Still a bit puzzled about what to wear on my feet though so have ordered the Clarks Chorus Voice snakeskin heels which I will wear loads anyway.

I think they look good with slouchy jumpers. I would go for ankle boots rather than a court shoe.

Tigermax Mon 30-Sep-13 12:24:53

I've been trying on loads recently. They look soooo good dressed down with ankle boots and slouchy tops, or with a vest and simple blazer I think. However, I have yet to find an affordable pair that don't make me look fat. And I'm a skinny link. They add so much bulk. I've totally ruled out lined trousers and I'm not that keen on the leggings variety. So far £900 J Brand skinnies perfect, but I've not really got that budget. Be really interested to know if anyone finds any flattering varieties that don't completely break the bank grin If you do then go for it!

One thing that always springs to mind when I see leather trousers is how do people keep them clean? I mean, a sweaty gusset in machine washable items is easily remedied, but what state would leather trousers be in after a while?! hmm

I'm going for pleather, and the Warehouse ones look good. Topshop ones are usually really good, too, albeit too high waisted for me (I'm either adjusting or abandoning mine for this reason)

MrsBucketxx Mon 30-Sep-13 14:45:37

Ok looked in more depth and it will be pleather, wow real is v v pricey.

Im going to get some now.

To avoid the dorian/loose women look dress down and no other glitz or sparkle ANYWHERE on your person! Low key hair and make up too. I think the older you are the harder it is esp as you see young girls everywhere in them looking amazing and kind of casual. They are a bit xmas office do if you get it wrong

BetsyBidwell Mon 30-Sep-13 14:57:16

noddyholder Mon 30-Sep-13 14:57:22

I think if you are tall slim and spectacular looking naturally you can wear at any age BUT you have to outshine them iykwim and not the other way round. SOmehow on people who really suit them they don't really stand out

noddyholder Mon 30-Sep-13 15:04:45

love i had the fakey legging ones a few years ago and they were comfy and ok on a cold day as they are warm but in teh evening mutton

noddyholder Mon 30-Sep-13 15:06:08
BetsyBidwell Mon 30-Sep-13 15:09:11

yes
but they always do that with trousers - show them with bare feet which is only practical for about 2 months of the year....

noddyholder Mon 30-Sep-13 15:12:15

I would look hideous in them! Plus i think they are already over (sorry) In winter a well worn pair of fryes or forget it they will look like jane mcdonald with most other things. Having said that my mate wears a v old pair with plimsolls and somehow looks good on her

I have a lovely pair from Freda at Matches. They are really lovely soft, thin leather and feel great to wear. They are more like skinny jeans than leggings and are a slightly looser fit on the leg. I am 28 so hopefully not quite into mutton territory yet. I wear them with plain tops (i.e Grey marl tee or tight fitting long sleeved v neck) and spiky heels for nights out. May try the chunky knit look for day, though footwear has me a bit stumped as most of my winter boots are black leather...

BetsyBidwell Mon 30-Sep-13 15:16:13

they are just SO SO

cilla

noddyholder Mon 30-Sep-13 15:19:43

yep

BetsyBidwell Mon 30-Sep-13 15:20:37

there she is. the nations little hamster

noddyholder Mon 30-Sep-13 15:21:30

Shit better not wear them with my longline blazer and polka dot blouse...

BetsyBidwell Mon 30-Sep-13 15:23:31

unles you plan to reunite long lost family members

MrsCampbellBlack Mon 30-Sep-13 16:10:23

I bought some last year and haven't worn them much to be honest. I prefer them for day rather than going out - ideally with cashmere jumper - the type the white co do.

Not massively dorian but its a fine line.

noddyholder Mon 30-Sep-13 16:22:51

I agree def daytime

shoudnt we all?! grin

MrsBucketxx Mon 30-Sep-13 17:10:21

I was thinking of teaming them with my new biker boots

and slouchy jumpers, hardly ever go anywhere in an evening anyway,

MrsBucketxx Mon 30-Sep-13 17:11:56

Ill try a few on first, the pic of posh makes her thighs look chunky, so ill see.

Am bored witless in hospital and planning to reunite long lost family members has given me one of my few genuine lolz of the day.

MrsBucketxx Mon 30-Sep-13 18:33:49

Amber huh?

Down thread I made a joke about not wearing my leathers with a blazer and blouse in homage to the Cilla pic. Betsy then said 'unless you plan to reunite long lost family memers' - tickled me!

MrsBucketxx Mon 30-Sep-13 20:38:15

Sorry arf asleep me grin

BetsyBidwell Mon 30-Sep-13 20:42:09

Aw! It only hurts when you do lorra lorra larfs
