Thinking of buying it but after a lot of money wasted on mascara purchases I need your advice.

Thanks

IceCreamForCrow Sun 22-Sep-13 11:00:53

I had some as a present one Christmas. It wasn't something I'd ever used but I must admit I thought it was good.

But I think it's overpriced. I just can't bring myself to spend £20 to replace it. There must be something out there equally good for less.

southeastastra Sun 22-Sep-13 11:03:21

try the cheaper smaller version first. i don't like it at all, it's really hard to put on, too much faffing about (using the brush vertically) and i don't like the wand. it's awful to get off later too.

you might like it though, i think Boots do a small version for a tenner or so.

Still stick with max factor masterpiece max

catgirl1976 Sun 22-Sep-13 11:10:12

I didn't like it

It was a bit spidery on and it was like tar to get off

I was in a Travel lodge with no make up remover and I had to spend about 4 hours using the horrible scratchy towel to scrape it off my face whilst looking like a Tim Burton character

You can't go wrong with MF Masterpiece

spanishring Sun 22-Sep-13 11:13:28

Yup MF masterpiece wins every time

WowOoo Sun 22-Sep-13 11:13:31

I like the results, but it takes ages to remove it with make up remover. Then after I think it's all off and I wash my face there seems to be loads more.

Yes, catgirl - it's like tar!

I wouldn't buy it again.

Trills Sun 22-Sep-13 11:16:10

I got a small one free with a magazine.

It's good mascara but hard to get off.

I like Clinique curling mascara (in a silver tube) - semi waterproof, comes off with warm water and gentle rubbing with fingertips.

plentyofsoap Sun 22-Sep-13 11:21:53

I wasn't impressed.

chicaguapa Sun 22-Sep-13 11:33:54

I agree. Nice mascara but a bugger to get off.

HazleNutt Sun 22-Sep-13 11:44:20

They're Real indeed, real horrible. Didn't like it at all, glued my eyelashes together into some weird spider legs.

closetcat Sun 22-Sep-13 11:46:06

I love it! It's the only mascara that I can put on without getting a dollop of it on my eyelid. It comes off with Simple eye-make-up remover or my Alpha H balancing cleaner.

closetcat Sun 22-Sep-13 11:47:07

Forgot to mention I don't bother faffing with the vertical bit.

JeanPaget Sun 22-Sep-13 11:52:01

It comes straight off for me using Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish (or the cheaper Superdrug versions) and I like the fact that it doesn't shift during the day.

I liked it but there's a Barry m one that's more or less the same

This one

parrotsandcarsnips Sun 22-Sep-13 12:25:46

i personally didnt like it as found it too clumpy. Benefit rep suggested maybelline one by one which i got and like at fraction of price

NewNameforNewTerm Sun 22-Sep-13 12:31:02

Not impressed with it. Wasn't easy to put on, didn't like texture/consistency and didn't create effect I expected.

Scarletohello Sun 22-Sep-13 12:44:18

I've tried lots of diff mascaras but keep coming back to MF Masterpiece ( waterproof). Always looking for the HG but for the price it's v good.

BinksToEnlightenment Sun 22-Sep-13 13:41:20

I love it, but it's nothing compared to Diorshow Iconic. Now THAT'S a mascara.

JohnnyFontaneCannaeSing Sun 22-Sep-13 13:58:12

Waste of money. Hated it. I like max factor false lash effect. Hope that helps. X

AmethystMoon Sun 22-Sep-13 14:33:59

It really isn't worth £20. I was pressure sold a tube when 9 months pregnant, hot n bothered and weak by the pushy Benefit sales child confused
I do use it but agree with others that is is gunky and nothing not already sold elsewhere for a fiver.
I get it off okay ish with body shop chamomile eye make up remover.

LeslieKnope Sun 22-Sep-13 14:34:58

It's shite.

Hth.

foxysocks Sun 22-Sep-13 14:54:05

i love it

NigellasGuest Sun 22-Sep-13 14:57:30

this is my favourite at the moment although I have used They're Real in the past and got on with it quite well.

I tried Dior Show because of the hype, but found it so bad I actually gave it away!

depends on what your lashes are like, my friend it looks amazing on. me not so much.

on myself its good at lengthening but doesn't give much volume.

foolssilver Sun 22-Sep-13 15:58:27

Thanks everyone smile

I think I'll give it a miss then and have a look at Max Factor. Not tried them in ages so time to revisit I think.

MissDD1971 Sun 22-Sep-13 16:08:01

Just be careful. I have a friend who loves Benefit she tried this mascara and felt it was awful, very silicone like and sticky. She wasn't at all impressed.

Get them to try it on you first or buy the smaller trial size.

GatoradeMeBitch Sun 22-Sep-13 17:32:30

I kept sticking it in my eye. I hate plastic brushes sad

GatoradeMeBitch Sun 22-Sep-13 17:34:48

Max Factor 1000 calorie is old reliable, can't really go wrong with it!

I love Lancome, except for Hypnose - Defencils is excellent.

wrenster Sun 22-Sep-13 21:01:52

Would definitely not buy it again. It smudged very easily and a fair bit of it was down my face by lunchtime. A good mascara for the evening but that's all. A waste of money IMO.

SunnyUpNorth Sun 22-Sep-13 21:36:06

I really didn't like it either and it is supposed to be budge proof but was halfway down my face within minutes.

I recently recommended a revlon one I tried, can't remember the name at the mo but will check later.

I also second the Clinique one mentioned above. I used it for years and would buy it again but just tried the revlon one when it was on special. I don't like the wand with the Clinique one so usually use one I saved and washed from a High Impact mascara by Clinique too.

FoxyHarlow123 Mon 23-Sep-13 06:56:34

Not a fan.

Deathbyladybirds Mon 23-Sep-13 06:58:58

Not keen.

beachyhead Mon 23-Sep-13 07:03:51

Love it, wearing it now and every day

KittieCat Mon 23-Sep-13 07:03:55

Diorshow is amazing. I've tried loads of mascaras as DH gets lots of samples through work.

It's by far the best for me.

mrspaddy Mon 23-Sep-13 07:07:46

I was really disappointed... Dried up in tube, no.. Not or me.. Back to cheapies... Nex time maybe ysl.

IceCreamForCrow Mon 23-Sep-13 10:32:35

Re Max Factor Masterpiece - which one?confused

The 'Max' one in the black tube or the one in the gold?

kiriwawa Mon 23-Sep-13 10:36:13

It's okay but the BEST mascara in the world for absolute budgeproofness is Estee Lauder Doublewear.

It's the only mascara that never ever smudges

Thought it was awful - really fake and spidery looking.

But still haven't found anything to happily replace my favourite discontinued Estee Lauder Luscious Creme.

[sad face]

MrsRebeccaDanvers Mon 23-Sep-13 14:49:44

I find that EL Doublewear smudges really easily om me. Also agree that Theyre Real takes days to get off

LulaPalooza Mon 23-Sep-13 15:38:48

I agree with those who say it is a pain to remove. Literally. made my eyes sting like hell.

I always go back to L'Oreal Telescopic.

ArtDecoGirly Mon 23-Sep-13 16:16:09

I got it and was not impressed. Didn't make me think "Wow, my eyelashes are fabby!" when I looked in the mirror, and is awful to remove. I much prefer YSL Faux Cils False Lash Effect

kiriwawa Mon 23-Sep-13 17:28:41

oh how weird MrsDanvers! It's the only mascara I've ever worn that doesn't give me panda eyes. Just shows that what works for one person, doesn't work for another.

Iatemyskinnyperson Mon 23-Sep-13 18:53:25

Hate it. Weird spider leg lashes

Much prefer max factor false lash effect or clump defy are both excellent. Bourgeois curling one is good too- black tube/metallic purple top.

Emo76 Mon 23-Sep-13 20:23:19

I have it and like it but L'Oreal telescopic as good and half the price

Snog Tue 24-Sep-13 21:08:42

i rate the benefit mascara but dont rate dior iconic at all

AgathaF Tue 24-Sep-13 21:26:19

I bought the small version in Boots a couple of weeks ago. Not impressed. No better than my Clinique one for coverage, made my eyes itch like an itchy thing, and took ages to remove.

SorrelForbes Tue 24-Sep-13 21:29:40

Was very underwhelmed by the Benefit mascara. Too sticky, as was the Dior Iconic.

Recently I've tried the Max Factor Clump Defy which was nice but didn't do much in the way of lengthening or thickening.

I've just bought the YSL Babydoll and so far so good. However, I think I'm going to go back to my previous favourite, Givenchy Phenomeneyes.

BaconAndAvocado Tue 24-Sep-13 21:55:47

I personally don't like it. It makes my lashes look too spidery and is soooo hard to get off.

I prefer No7 Extreme Volume. Lashes thick and luscious, bank statement the same sort of

sleepdodger Tue 24-Sep-13 22:01:24

As someone with dodgy sensitive eyelashes I alternate mascara anyway buying new ever other one
I like benefit one- I bought it after trying a freebie with glamour magazine etc
More than mac shock who are usually my fail safe
About same as Clinique
About same as an Avon one I got free with Marie Claire!!
Much better than maybelline too

I will buy it again!

sleepdodger Tue 24-Sep-13 22:02:32

Btw mine comes off no problem with cleanser when I wash my face!

CountBapula Tue 24-Sep-13 22:07:01

I got given a sample of YSL Babydoll when I bought the Touche Eclat foundation and it's fab. No clumps, just really natural-looking lengthening effect.

Still using the sample blush but a bit gutted that I've fallen in love with a £20+ mascara hmm
