A happy and safe place to talk fashion (from high end to high street), beauty and the arts. All welcome to bring a positive state of mind, lots of links and an eye for detail.
Continuing on from here

shopafrolic Fri 20-Sep-13 08:21:16

What is wrong with MN this morning - that took 6 attempts to set up!

mignonette Fri 20-Sep-13 08:52:28

Hi all

Needs I'm going to try that risotto you cooked. If you can PM a link to the recipe or give me some pointers as to amounts, that'd be great. If not I'll wing it.

Shop Thanks for setting up. The thread was playing up last night, wouldn't let me post even though it wasn't up to 1000.

Decam That blouse is lovely. I don't mind Boden. They have some beautiful pieces and are a major British success story. I still have a chocolate brown whalebone cord coat by them that is donkeys years old. I love it, worn elbows and all and had some leather patches put onto the worn bits by a tailor. Looks modern still.

Dry I have found these so far. Let me know if they are going in the right direction or whether you'd prefer more evening-y selections;

You might think this is hideous and I definitely think it might be one season only as the print is very trend specific but this Carven T is different;

Lagerfeld luxe racer back which if you don't get, I will;

Multi purpose JCrew shirt. I would style it modern club kids style w/ loads of blingy paste and real jewellery, fierce shoes.

I love this ACNE print T. So elegant in its print and will go high or low.

Might be a bit low necked for you but this Helmut would look good w/ a blingy brooch pinned to the V or a neckline filled in w/ jewellery;

Simple Geometric tank which would suit indigo or black pants and bright shoes;

Sheer modern and multi purpose shirt;

This covers the metallic trend;

And this covers the pink;

A Marant influenced top;

Another modern abstract print

This is from Amber Valetta's new company 'Master and Muse' sold on Yoox and is a simple black top.

Love the Acne T and the Marant influenced top mig, plus the Atterley Road top and the Helmut Lang too. I am finding it difficult to form objective opinions on the rest, as I would look like a zombie in those colours smile and this is influencing my thought process.

Ristotto link here - be aware I never follow a recipe, I just like the idea then do my own thing, which hugely annoys the family as they don't get the same dish twice. I added more butter and wine than the suggested amounts, a little soy sauce and lots of garlic pepper, plus I didn't measure the rice, just added until I felt the consistency would be right. The DC eat the remaining risotto cold for their lunches the next day!

sort of recipe

Whoever linked the Zara skirt that I subsequently bought, thank you smile

mignonette Fri 20-Sep-13 11:23:17

Thank you Needs. Are you on Pinterest and if so am I following you? Gets confusing w/ some of the names being different.

QueenCadbury Fri 20-Sep-13 12:34:07

Aargh, don't confuse me. I've just posted on vol 21.

QueenCadbury Fri 20-Sep-13 12:35:17

Copy and paste from vol 21...

Have a fab weekend liberty.

I'm still undecided about the ash boots. This was the reply from my wardrobe

This is the intended look for this pair, they are supposed to have a distressed feel and all of the other pairs will have this.

I love the colour and the shape but just want them to look perfect but they don't. For £100 I should probably return them shouldn't I?

mrscb linked these but I'm just not sure if I like the wooden heel. I really like the ash with the black heel.

Forgot to say that yesterday I bought this top. I rarely go in next anymore except to look at kids stuff but my training afternoon was on a retail park so I nipped in. I'm wearing it today with black jeans and a damson cardi. And it has an exposed zip so get me, I'm finally trendy .

shopafrolic Fri 20-Sep-13 12:37:02

QueenC please return those boots if you're not 100% happy with how they look
Dry nights out for me tend to be either jeans with silk blouse with a print, or my cream one, or black - I have a draped, sleeveless black top from Kookai, or a silk sleeveless top with a ruffle at the front from Jigsaw which I wear with black coated skinnies.
Hope everyone finds us okay - the old thread went very strange......

QueenCadbury Fri 20-Sep-13 12:37:48

Random question but where do you buy your socks? I invested in loads of gap ones as they seemed better than my previous m&s and supermarket offerings but I've noticed they all have holes in. Maybe I shouldn't expect socks to last more that a year...?

QueenCadbury Fri 20-Sep-13 12:43:19

dry forgot to reply. I tend to wear black cropped trousers or jeans (either straight leg or skinny flare) with some sort of blouse like my hire jaegar one, my navy vero moda or my black lace one from last year. I'd like a grey going out blouse too. On my feet I wear my grey boots or mid heels. My going out footwear isn't very glam as we tend to walk everywhere as our nearest restuarants are 15 mins away and friends are local so they have to be functional. I really need to add in some navy boots.

shop I am going to return them. I just hope I don't regret it. I will try those clarks ones when they finally come in. If anyone sees any navy ankle boots under £100 please let me know!!!

Decameron Fri 20-Sep-13 13:06:40

Lovely tops, Mig.

Happy anniversary, Liberty!

Socks ... I usually steal DH's!

Decameron Fri 20-Sep-13 13:09:51

I agree about Boden, Mig but you do see a lot of Boden bashing on Mumsnet!

Needs, I'm going to try that risotto. Dd1 is a fussy eater, it puts me off cooking. She's 5 so hopefully will grow out of it soon.

santamarianovella Fri 20-Sep-13 13:27:50

whats going on today?thought i lost you all!

hope you enjoyed your evening sleep

novice your meal sounds amazing!

dry i usually wear simple silk tops with skinny black jeans or leather skinnies with simple sweater, but always wear high heels, will link when i reach home.

mig and dec you both are right, boden are good actually ,but the always get very critical comments on here, their prices are on par with the high street but they quality is loads better.

liberty enjoy your weekend and happy anniversary

santamarianovella Fri 20-Sep-13 13:34:12

dec dss is a fussy eater ,and dd who used to eat anything and everything on her plate is starting to be more picky too, but everything i cook from the rachel allen cookbooks gets devoured instantly,i have no idea why! her risotto recipe is very simple but is a great hit with both of them!

QueenCadbury Fri 20-Sep-13 13:35:56

I always drool over the Boden catalogue and aside from the Boden-y prints their stuff looks great. In reality I just can't be faffed with orders and returns. A lot of brands get slated on MN such as fat face/white stuff but I find that you can usually find good stuff anywhere just as you can get rubbish stuff anywhere.

noviceoftheday Fri 20-Sep-13 13:38:18

Ohhhhh we are on a new one!!! God I am stressed today, doing my conference calls while finishing the last of decluttering that dh didnt do hmm as estate agent is coming round to do the photos at 3pm. Hope I don't end up on one of those MN threads! shock

Santa, great meal but I felt so full this morning! I am supposed to be going to the Shard tomorrow night for a meal but I have decided that I don't have time. sad

shopafrolic Fri 20-Sep-13 14:01:52

* Some people still seem to be able to post on the old thread - I can't.
If you can - could you post a link to this thread saying that we've had to move? Thanks everso! *

shopafrolic Fri 20-Sep-13 14:13:43

Thanks QueenC no idea what's going on!

QueenCadbury Fri 20-Sep-13 14:35:30

I think normally it goes up to 40 pages or 1000 posts. Maybe because it's on p41 it's confused?

mignonette Fri 20-Sep-13 14:52:28

I don't know what is happening w/ MNV 21. It has gone all wrong grin.

Liberty Happy Anniversary. Doing anything? Apologies if you've already said but have missed a chunk I think?

Decam I think the Boden bashing might stem from the detractors of MN depicting it as 'Boden Towers' hence the rush to distance themselves! People who love style buy what they like, when they like. I like your shirt very much and I think Boden does sharp pant cutting- they always have several excellent pairs especially the cigarettes and sailors. As for Fat Face, my cosy TV wear is currently a pair of red and white striped PJ bottoms w/ an oversized harcoal grey lambswool FF sweater that I nicked from DH. The Postman told me he liked my look (when he delivered my post, nothing else!) and I don't think he was being sarky....

Novice That isn't the Shard restaurant that AA Gill, Giles Coren and the other critics tore to pieces was it? If so, save your money as its pretty bad apparently.

Santa My DD makes Rachel Allens coconut cake and reckons it is better than the famous K Paul Prudhomme coconut cake.

Queen I would return them unless you can get past the distressed look. Otherwise that is a fair whack of money on an item that may niggle and mither away at you each time you look at them.

RE socks I steal DH's plain black cotton but not sure where he buys them from. I also buy Fair Isle and other 'homespun' type prints from places like Melin Tregwynt here, Toast, M&S and my DH's Paul Smith FairIsle ones. I only wear pure cotton or wool blends so those gorgeous Top Shop patterns are generally out although I did give in and buy some Snoopy, Moomin, Barbapappa and Dastardly and Muttley ones! They don't last well even ones from places like Gap but one piece of advice I was given was to make sure that toenails are kept very short and to never pull socks on by thrusting feet into them and yanking as that makes them give out at the toe.

I want some hand knitted chunky Arran style ones for padding about at home although they are lethal on the stone kitchen floor and I am prone to falling as you all well know!

LinusDKD Fri 20-Sep-13 15:03:48

Here you all are!

novice beef carpaccio, yum! I usually order this in any Italian restaurant as I love it so much.

mig I love cooking but since the DC I am usually confined to easy meals that are ready in 30 minutes so I compensate by reading one of my many cookbooks. I am going to make a Chilli con Carne tomorrow even though DS will say he doesn't like 'picy' (he can't say 'spicy') food.

He used to be a relatively easy eater until he turned 18 months and then he became superfussy. It is slowly getting better though so I hope it's just a phase.

decam I love that Boden blouse and I agree they do have some nice things. I often wear the crochet jacket I bought this summer as it fits with loads of things in my wardrobe.

I went into town this morning to do some shopping for the DC and to try on the Aigle Cuckmere, but the Aigle shop had moved to a shopping centre out of town. angry

Maybe this is a sign I need to go for the Moncler coat I tried last week? wink. DH and I are going to Rome in two weeks time so I will go to the Moncler store there and try it on again and hope it's less £££ there

novice I saw those Valentino ankle boots you pinned a while ago and they are stunning. They are very narrow though, so not for people with wide feet.

santa I saw that Marant tee and you are right, it is super soft.

Oh and I popped into LV and I had a look at that scarf. They didn't have it in the colour you pinned but the navy/beige combination is lovely.

I saw loads of lovely things again but I was a good girl and only bought that Maybelline brow gel someone mentioned on MNV.

And my first two Christmas presents! grin

LinusDKD Fri 20-Sep-13 15:11:59

Happy anniversary liberty!

sleep mentioning Tucker reminded me I had seen this blouse and thought of dry but I forgot to link it at the time.

LinusDKD Fri 20-Sep-13 15:12:56

What's up with MN? An attack of the gremlins?

libertychick Fri 20-Sep-13 15:24:55

Thanks all for the good wishes - have made it to Bath (weekend away), DD asleep, DH gone to get some food and wine - the flat we booked is lovely so I'm getting nicely relaxed. Some work emails to clear then chill out.

QueenC I echo the others in saying return the boots if you don't love them. It doesn't matter if they cost £10, £100 or £1000 - if they don't get worn or if they always bother you it's a waste.

Any shops I should look out for in Bath????

mignonette Fri 20-Sep-13 15:27:34

Linus I often wonder if that food fussiness that often accompanies the learning to walk, run and be a little more independent of the parent is natures way of discouraging toddlers from sampling foods 'in the wild'. You know, back in the day when we were living in huts? An evolutionary safeguard we haven't quite shed yet?

That's a pretty mint/Aqua blouse Linus. Very fresh for the coming Spring too as those pastels will be very in for S/S 14.

I have ordered some cookbooks for DD's Christmas. She wants to develop a mega collection like mine smile....

My Mother has dropped hints about giving me some of her hand bags- I am hoping for the Chanel flap over or the McQueen 'Novac' which is a little ladylike for me but I am sure I'll cope. She has gorgeous bags and rarely uses any of them. I won't get her Kelly though!

mignonette Fri 20-Sep-13 15:29:07

Liberty Are you going to the Roman Baths? That pool on the roof looks glorious.

I'm not familiar w/ Bath although BIL went to the university years ago. He loves it. Manolo Blahnik lives there doesn't he? Or is it in Cheltenham?

LinusDKD Fri 20-Sep-13 15:46:34

mig I'll remember that next time DS refuses to eat the dish that he wolfed down only a week before. [ wink]

Maybe we should pin a photo of our cookbook collection on the MNV board? I'm sure you'll win. grin

DM has some lovely bags as well and has bought two Birkin's, one for me and one for Dsis. But we will only get them when she's gone so hopefully we will have to wait a very long time!

I will settle for one of her Chanel bags in the mean time. wink

Annianni Fri 20-Sep-13 15:47:28

Happy anniversary Liberty, hope you have a good weekend.

I think MrsCB lives in or near Bath, start a thread and ask for ideas.

Annianni Fri 20-Sep-13 15:52:53

Linus I've got 3 Christmas pressies so far grin

It was me who got the Maybelline brow thing, I really like it.

Love that blouse Decam.

Annianni Fri 20-Sep-13 15:58:36

Queenc I agree, send the boots back.

Have you looked at Hudson?
They have some nice navy ankle boots this season.
Sign up for Office emails if you do like any, I got a pair last season with 30% discount.

MarshaBrady Fri 20-Sep-13 16:27:00

Hello! Parents have gone. Today was hard work travelling around London, the dc got tired.

So, back to normal! It was pretty full on so nice to have some time to relax.

Gah... so fed up of being one handed already. Present wrapping is just not meant to be done with one hand! they look awful but I'm hoping the DN and DN (just to confuse you all wink) won't notice

MarshaBrady Fri 20-Sep-13 16:45:03

Whoops posted on wrong vol.

Decam I love that spotty blouse, it's so pretty. And the C/E look fab.

Liberty have a lovely anniversary weekend.

Shop pleased the Chloe coat is such a hit, knew it would be.

Sleep I missed your outnet order! What did you get? can you re-link pretty please.

QueenCadbury Fri 20-Sep-13 17:03:35

The boots are going back.

liberty I don't often shop in bath and I'm not sure that there's anywhere that London hasn't got?

I always tried to encourage dc to eat anything as I can't bear fussy eAters but it seems that whatever you introduce them too and wean them on they do become fussy whatever. I'm getting bored of my repertoire of spag Bol/cottage pie etc but dd (almost 8) is becoming much more adventurous again. I'm now trying to make the same things but slightly different so adding in different veg to the sauce or seasoning slightly more rather than serving up exactly the same every time. It's amazing that they haven't really noticed me adding in things that they 'hate' grin

I am so looking forward to going out tonight. Having spent last weekend apart and him being on and preparing for a course dh and I haven't seen each other properly for ages. Shame I can't wear the navy boots but at least I don't have to confess the price grin.

Decameron Fri 20-Sep-13 17:18:03

QueenC, have a lovely evening! I saw some nice navy boots on the Hudson website recently.

Are you seeing your parents again, Marsha or have they gone home?

I am a big Rachel Allen fan though my niece said I speak like her which worried me! I don't really though.

Took the DDs for ice cream and passed a lovely shop which they wanted to into as there is a big box of toys. I tried this dress on, it's on the Christmas sales list.

Mig, hope you get the Chanel bag if not the Kelly!

MarshaBrady Fri 20-Sep-13 17:20:34

I love that dress Decam. Saw it once in rl at a party and thought it was amazing. Yes they've gone now. Flying tonight at 6pm I think.

QueenC have a lovely night out. Good decision on the boots if not quite right.

mignonette Fri 20-Sep-13 17:21:28

Linus Or more likely toddler contrariness grin. My son was such a little gutsy no food was left intact around him. My daughter? Another story entirely and one that often left me in tears of frustration at my inability to get her to eat anything without yoghurt stirred into it. Yes...Even pasta.

santamarianovella Fri 20-Sep-13 17:25:47

novice we are going to hutong resturant next month,

mig I agree with your DD,the coconut cake is delicious ,so is the rhubarb crumble.

linus I thought moncler was cheaper in Switzerland. but trust me you won't regret it ,u can wear pyjamas underneath it and still look good.or if you can go to a loro piana outlet in rome their down coats are superior, my mum has a lovely beige one.
I'm planing on going to LV on Monday and have a look,I agree the navy one is gorgeous,

queen have fun tonight! I'm sure you will find a better pair of boots, sending it back is the right thing to do,It's a lot of money for something you are not %100 happy with.

QueenC don't get me started on fussy eaters!!! Drives me nuts! Made big batch bolognaise for kids this weekend...receive email that our friends' kids don't like mince!!!!

Mig thanks so much for all the top links.
My favourites are the Hobbs metallic orange, I love an exposed zip and the colour's lovely have v similar in my wardrobe!
Atterlley road soaked in luxury.....really tempted.
The other AR misu top....I have v similar that I'd forgotten all aboutshock
Carven....nice but I'm not keen on the cuff and the plain back,
My favourite is the Acne though, I love it!
The Helmut lang is lovely...the colour fab too.

Liberty once upon a time when I got fed up with my life in London, Bath was one of the places I wanted to relocate too....it's such a beautiful place.

Linus that tucker mint shirt is to die for! I love love love it....not the £££ though sad

mignonette Fri 20-Sep-13 17:49:52

I'll have another browsw later Dry. Glad you liked them and I have a better idea of what you are aiming at now.

Mig you're v kind......mostly what I've realized, though! is that I was whinging and have things in my wardrobe that I'd forgotten about shock spoiled woman .
Green Thai curry tonight....love a curry on a Friday, and love Nigel Slater's recipe....yum I have made clients cry with my heavy handed ness with the chillies in the past so have tried to go steady this evening

noviceoftheday Fri 20-Sep-13 18:49:09

Santa we were at Hutong a couple of months ago. Gorgeous food but don't put the many chillies they offer on everything like we did as it almost ruined a lovely meal!

LinusDKD Fri 20-Sep-13 19:05:19

Mmmmm green Thai curry! We made it a couple of months ago and made an extra mild version for DS. Needless to say it was too 'picy'. hmm

dry pin the

foxysocks Fri 20-Sep-13 19:16:57

my kids LOVE curry. I put it down to the amount of time they have spent in india. they love tofu and chickpeas too.

I am trying to find some winter shorts. I want charcoal, maybe tweed, not high waisted and with a good wool content. has anyone seen anything?

I have a diptyque candle burning and a G&T whilst DH cooks. nigella's tomato and pea curry with coconut rice, simple and delicious.

we ordered the aga yesterday, hurrah!

LinusDKD Fri 20-Sep-13 19:20:25

Crap, posted too soon

dry pin the Tucker shirt and see if it comes up in the sales. I love it too but I don't think this colour will suit me.

queenc have a great time tonight!

Santa Moncler cheaper in Switzerland? Then it will be the only thing that's cheaper here. wink

Loro Piana have some lovely cashmere but it's so £££. Is the outlet in the centre of Rome?

I will have to plan my shopping carefully as I won't have much time. We are celebrating DPIL wedding anniversary and they have planned lots of sightseeing.

foxysocks Fri 20-Sep-13 19:23:15

have fun tonight queenc! i think you made the right call on the boots, they looked way too worn.

mignonette Fri 20-Sep-13 19:35:54

I like these Foxy but limited sizes left;
Lagerfeld shorts;
Toast grey shorts;
Tommy Hilfiger;
Other Aesop;
Carven;
Carven boiled wool but muchas dineras.

Unsure as to whether these might be too short for you Foxy or not.

Lovely meals being cooked tonight by the sounds of it. We are off for to Burger & Lobster later and maybe to catch a film, maybe not.

shopafrolic Fri 20-Sep-13 19:52:20

Have had the best afternoon with a new friend (the one I told you about Marsha). Wore the peacoat again - love it so.......
Will try and catch up after dinner......

foxysocks Fri 20-Sep-13 20:02:28

oh THANK YOU mig! i had seen those outnet lagerfelds but i think, even with sizing up (I always size up for shorts) the 46 will be too big. gutted. those hilfiger ones are lovely but i'm not sure about springing £100 for shorts atm, eeeeeek....

noviceoftheday Fri 20-Sep-13 20:05:56

Hhmmm Diptique candle.....good idea foxy, might join you! I am feeling quite cross with dh at the moment for not pulling his weight so it will be a quiet evening.

noviceoftheday Fri 20-Sep-13 20:06:05

Hhmmm Diptique candle.....good idea foxy, might join you! I am feeling quite cross with dh at the moment for not pulling his weight so it will be a quiet evening.

santamarianovella Fri 20-Sep-13 20:15:53

linus i dont know the location of the loro piana outlet am afraid,
foxy which aga did you go with?

Ooh curry and vino v good. Hadn't prepared a pudding, when DH asked what was for pud I told him he could cull some strawberries if he wanted! Bloody hell....I speak as I type there's no hope grin
linus great tip....will Pin it. Thank you x

LeFreakCestChic Fri 20-Sep-13 23:25:10

Just dropping in to say I've just ordered this pencil skirt
Now I need to find a plain cheap wool black jumper.
Quick navy/ black question- should you? Can you? Do you? My mum says wearing these 2 colours together looks like a bruise ..confused

mignonette Fri 20-Sep-13 23:58:37

I love navy and black LeFreak. I think they look very striking together, especially midnight blue w/ black.

Hi everyone, I just got in from a night in the pub with a few girlfriends, had a lovely catch up with them all and now in bed flicking through vol 22 smile

DH is now in NY so I have 4 days of DC time to look forward to hmm - DH and I are both less than thrilled with the situation, we were hoping to go to NY together and had childcare lined up but the work situation is a little sensitive so I couldn't be seen to be there with him and there's actually little point in him being there either except to show his face....hmm, so a very unsatisfactory weekend for both of us (except he gets to sleep and shop and I get to, umm, entertain 3 DC's hmm confused?

Marsha I got this skirt and these jeans from the Outnet, loved them last night but today not quite so sure, think I may be getting over enthusiastic due to the bargain factor and I want the leather skirt in particular to be exactly the right one, whatever the price, I've looked at loads, from Zara (£80), through DVF and Allsaints to Zadig at £400 and none are perfect. With the jeans, I'm not sure I quite have the legs to pull off the side pockets and zips, I like them but suspect maybe clean lines are more flattering on me?

I love Rachel Allen's food! Foxy I am very envy of you having kids who eat chick peas etc, do not get me started on picky...whilst mine are a long way off devouring curries they aren't actually terrible but they all have different preferences/dislikes so pleasing all of them at the same time is impossible.

Liberty have a wonderful anniversary weekend! Sounds lovely smile

foxysocks Sat 21-Sep-13 07:56:48

Ahhh I have had those zipped j brands in my wish list for ages. I love them. Skirt also nice but I can definitely understand wanting perfection for the price.

Mine are def less fussy than most of their friends. There is stuff they genuinely do not like, of course, but with some things I just keep serving them up and eventually they try it and like it.

Anyone fancy this skirt? hmm
Sleep weekends as solo parent are tough......DVD, wine for you and chocolate and Pringles for the dcs must feature at some point.
LeFreak nice skirt! I'm still on a floral pencil skirt hunt.

foxysocks Sat 21-Sep-13 08:11:28

Oh Santa, sorry forgot to answer you. We have chosen the aga S series. it is duel fuel with six hobs (gas) and four ovens (one grill, one slow cooker, one fan and one standard electric). It comes with a griddle plate and wok ring too. In black. Hurrah! Our kitchen dude got a really great trade discount too.

Decameron Sat 21-Sep-13 08:45:21

Shame you couldn't go to NY, Sleep. At least the weather will be good this weekend so you can head out.

Gorgeous skirt LeFreak and I love navy and black together.

Hope you are having a lovely time, Liberty. I thought Bath was beautiful.

LinusDKD Sat 21-Sep-13 10:02:23

Lovely skirt lefreak! I love navy and black combined together, but it all depends on the navy and on the black.

A proper black black might look too harsh against the navy but there are plenty of blueish blacks that look stunning with navy.

sleep such a shame you couldn't go to NY! Do you think DH might try and soften the blow with a little NY prezzie?

dry how about that floral Zara skirt I pinned a while ago? The print is stunning and it has a nice bit of stretch in it, but on me it just didn't sit right.

foxy very envy about your Aga! Especially the fact you can cook with gas! Unfortunately in our area it's all electric cookers but I love cooking with gas.

mignonette Sat 21-Sep-13 10:04:43

I missed that skirt LeFreak and it is lush. Just the kind of graphic I go for.

Dry That would kill me. I will have to take DD when we next go as the thought of her little sad face at the thought of my being there without her is more than my conscience will allow.

Maybe DH will come home clutching a large present?

Had lovely lobster in Farringdon last night then lovely walk home looking at the hipsters. It is like an urban safari.

QueenCadbury Sat 21-Sep-13 12:55:38

Hello. Had a lovely night last night catching up with dh. He was telling me he's getting his annual incremental pay rise so I told him therefore I must be due a pay rise too grin.

lefreak I love navy and black together. There's lots of pins somewhere on one of my boards but I often wear black trousers with a navy top.

Got loads to do today-tea to organise for ds and his friends, presents to wrap, party bags to sort out etc etc. Will catch up properly later.

Good one QueenC

linus tried to buy this skirt and this skirt fron Zara, both sold out !sad

noviceoftheday Sat 21-Sep-13 14:27:10

THANK YOU so very much to Shop! I picked up the package today and contents are absolutely perfect! i have plonked it straight into the box.smile

I am wearing the helmut Lang knitted jumper today. It's definitely too big but feels lovely.

Dh and i had a big row this morning so a bit tense at home this afternoon. Not very like us so not fun.sad

Well Dniece and Dnephew loved the cupcakes we spent SIX hours baking and decorating for them so that's all good. Have dug out my deep green Warehouse cocoon cardigan out of the wardrobe as it's so warm and am really snug now

santamarianovella Sat 21-Sep-13 15:34:06

oh no! novice sad, hope all is ok later.

foxy the s series is beautiful, please pin your kitchen on the secret board when its done, why dont we all do a kitchen pinning night! grin.

sleep i used to dread spending the weekend alone with the dc,when dh is away, but not any more, but make sure to demand a compensation when he comes back!

le freak i love navy and black,

queen i like the way you think!

im taking refuge in my kitchen with dd, dh has been watching football all afternoon and i CANT STAND IT ANY LONGER!,think will go back to pinterest and plan my imaginary thanksgiving dinner before my friend and her dc come by later.

mignonette Sat 21-Sep-13 15:37:36

Novice Hope things improve later. DH and I don't row or argue hardly ever so can imagine how unsettled and horrid you both must be feeling brew and cake to calm ruffled feathers.

Hope you work things out novice thanks

Novice hope you and DH make up and are able to have a nice rest of weekend together. wine arguing sucks. (If you need to run away I have a little shed you could borrow wink )

Amber does your trip to BV mean you've saved up enough and bought your dream bag?
I am being restrained until my visa bill arrives (and I've paid off all of my work purchases... Boring, boring, boring. Then I have a few things on my with list

Why did I look at this? Gorgeous

LinusDKD Sat 21-Sep-13 18:30:40

dry that last floral Zara skirt you linked was the one I tried on a couple of weeks ago. Do you want me to have a look of they still have it next week? I can always send it to you if you like.

They also have this one online but maybe the print is a bit too wallpaper like?

And they still have this one in a M and L online.

novice I hope you and DH kiss and make-up soon. Maybe put on those killer heels tonight? ;-)

santa I won't be sharing my kitchen on MNV because we only bought the house last year and whilst the kitchen will do for another few years, it really isn't my dream kitchen.

DH took the children out for a couple of hours this afternoon so I made Chilli con Carne (had it for dinner tonight, yum) and pumpkin soup.

I have loads of pumpkin left (you can buy them in a field close to our house and I chose the biggest one, of course) so I might try a different pumpkin soup recipe tomorrow.

LinusDKD Sat 21-Sep-13 18:40:04

I really like this sweatshirt even though I usually don't look good in them.

They say it's reversible but then they don't show the other side. hmm

MarshaBrady Sat 21-Sep-13 19:08:21

Sleep what a shame about NYC. I'd be hmm about that too. I'm sure you look fab in those jeans, but maybe would be better without the pockets.

I love the skirt, but if it's not absolutely perfect send back. Especially if you are on the look out for the one no matter what.

Liberty I hope you're having a lovely weekend.

LeFreak love navy and black, that skirt is great.

Foxy congrats on the new aga!

Novice ah you poor thing, hope things are ok,

Santa hope the football is over. I think you linked the Stella orange coat on an older thread. I saw it today, the colour is amazing.

Love those skirts Dry and wow at the Dolce.

Linus I really like the light skirt and that sweater.

Shop thanks for the pm lovely. I'm ok that they're gone. I got a bit sad that I listened to all the build up - can't wait to see the dc etc, but it was a bit of a damp squib and our day wasn't great. Not much interaction, I'm not asking the earth just slightly above supermarket level (you know the general chat you get from strangers). Anyway, it was ridiculous to let it get to me at all.

Am ok now. Had a lovely day. Finally got my hair cut, bought loads of fresh flowers and realised the Marant Etoile coat is really a posh cardigan. Ie won't be that warm in the bracing cold, so bought the Sessun navy peacoat. Had a Liberty voucher.

So have decided what I'd like for rest of a/w is

- Skirt. Saw a gorgeous Markus Lupfer brocade one, but none left in my size. So that or something else.

- A jumper

- Maybe some flats

What would everyone like to get still?

MarshaBrady Sat 21-Sep-13 19:24:48

This is the Theyskens' Theory pale sweater from the other day. I really love it, it's very soft.

MarshaBrady Sat 21-Sep-13 19:31:46

QueenC like your style.

Mig good linking as per usual!

LinusDKD Sat 21-Sep-13 19:50:21

Lovely peacoat marsha! And that sweater is a real classic and very versatile.

I think it was me who linked the S. McCartney coat and the colour is indeed amazing. I am super fussy when it comes to orange, but that is just the perfect orange. Did you try it on? ;-)

I have so many things I want to buy for A/W but I am still waiting for my down coat. Only then can I start to think about the rest. sad

My A/W wishlist on pin is getting fuller and fuller and I have hardly bought a thing.

But last night DH asked what my pin name was so 'he could have a look'. So I hope that he gets some inspiration for my birthday in November and/or Christmas. wink

I have decided that I won't buy a leather pencil skirt this year. I have seen some lovely ones online but I think I really have to see them IRL and try them on. And with a toddler and a baby a leather skirt is maybe not the most prudent choice.

linus DP asked me the same thing about pinterest! There's plenty on mine to take inspiration from grin

MarshaBrady Sat 21-Sep-13 19:59:07

Linus it was, sorry lovely! I didn't try it on grin. Too dangerous. I saw it across the floor at Liberty and thought wow, that is incredible.

I love the peacoat but am now worried it's a tad long on me, and the collar is a tad roundish. Damn! How did I only see that when I got home. I'm going to sleep on it and compare with an old See by Chloe one I have. It has to be better than that one.

shopafrolic Sat 21-Sep-13 20:02:41

LeFreak gorgeous skirt. As per others, YY to navy and black. Old school rules no longer apply
Mig love your description of Farringdon at night, and lobster - yum
Sleep how are you holding up? Hopefully everyone is in bed, and you can eat whatever you love but DH doesn't, drink lots and watch crap TV (is that just me?)
Novice glad the parcel arrived. It makes me smile that someone will soon be wearing my old RL tees and Zara linen tops! Hope the argument is soon resolved, it sounded as though you had a lot on this weekend and the pressure had been building. Sending wine and cake
Gorgeous skirt Dry it my God ££££££
Linus rubbish lack of pics from Zara but lovely sweatshirt
Marsha glad you're ok. Peacoat will look fabulous with 'those' boots
I'd like some very dark khaki or dark forest green slim leg trousers or skinnies. Wore my J Brand cargos today with my I&I khaki and neon striped sweater and it didn't feel right all day. Coated skinnies due Monday so will see what works.......
I need a chocolate brown super warm scarf too.
I've been on the Grey Goose Vodka since 6pm so apologies in advance this evening.

Decameron Sat 21-Sep-13 20:04:16

I love that peacoat, Marsha, and the detailing on the Theory sweater.

Hope you are happy campers again soon, Novice.

Not im great form here either, we have been way outbid on a house we wanted, DH has been working all day and is so busy I may have to cancel going to an exhibition I wanted to see tomorrow morning. My new C/E jeans arrived, highlight of the day!

Anyway - still want to buy a navy or black wool trench or pea coat, some new tops, J Brand grey 620 jeans and leopard print heels. Then will make a list for the sales.

Linus, leather is perfect with small kids - wipe clean!

shopafrolic Sat 21-Sep-13 20:07:16

Decam sorry to hear about the house purchase. sad

foxysocks Sat 21-Sep-13 20:09:33

gorgeous pea coat marsha, but def sleep on it if you are not sure

novice am so sorry you rowed. we are both under a lot of pressure too atm, it's no fun

love that skirt le freak

i have made barely a dent in the AW wishlist. i bought the F&B boots back in august, and the leopard flats and green honeycomb knit from the boden preview in july. that's it, I haven't shopped for an age. I don't really have a clear idea of where I want the money to go atm so am holding out.

LinusDKD Sat 21-Sep-13 20:10:27

Mmmm vodka!

It reminds me of the days all we had in our freezer was a bottle of vodka and some bread.

Now we have a massive freezer full of frozen peas, fish fingers and leftovers.

LinusDKD Sat 21-Sep-13 20:11:14

That sucks decam! thanks

shopafrolic Sat 21-Sep-13 20:12:39

Linus you've been in my fridge? shock

MarshaBrady Sat 21-Sep-13 20:17:09

Oh no on the house Decam the market sounds crazy.

Ok have done a try on, it's definitely better than the old Chloe one so that's good. The Sessun one is nearly to the knee, I think I need to get used to that.

LinusDKD Sat 21-Sep-13 20:23:31

shop wink

shopafrolic Sat 21-Sep-13 20:28:53

And your Cos dress Foxy?

Sorry to hear that about the house decam thanks

I'm so desperately unstylish right now since everything is a struggle to get on when you can't lift your arm up. Making do with long sleeved tees for warmth and skirts that can just be pulled on and off with no buttons or zips. Given the amount of excess bone they removed, they've estimated I need at least 12 weeks to recover so no drum lessons until after new year at least sad

LinusDKD Sat 21-Sep-13 20:37:39

Poor one! I just hope your recovery goes quickly.

I have just made myself a vodka tonic in honour of shop!

I also found an ancient bottle of Red Eristoff vodka that must have been a remainder of my student days. <shudder>

shopafrolic Sat 21-Sep-13 20:38:12

I like these but why oh why did they put the branding on the zip?!?

shopafrolic Sat 21-Sep-13 20:39:52

Cheers Linus

Oh Decam sorry about the house sad. I do believe these things are meant to be though, I'm sure one day when you are in a new house you love you'll think it a good thing.

Dry that skirt is so beautiful! but <faint> at price smile

Novice have you and DH made up yet? Don't let the row spoil the weekend.

Shop - 2dc's down, 1 bedtime to go hmm. It takes a long time, 3 by yourself. I have no enthusiasm for preparing a meal. May just eat some yoghurt and climb into my nice clean sheets. Today was quite trying, took the DC's swimming, dd had a party and ds1 had a friend over for a bit. Need to muster some enthusiasm for something tomorrow - zoo perhaps...or science/Nat history museum....am quite a grumpy mum though sad, no chance to exercise/get away for an hour definitely affects my mood.

shopafrolic Sat 21-Sep-13 21:07:21

Sleep I'm alone tomorrow AM with DS while DH goes dog training / shooting / country bumpkining. Know what you mean about summoning enthusiasm <sympathises>

noviceoftheday Sat 21-Sep-13 21:21:08

Oh decam, I am so sorry about the house! And poor you One, that doesn't sound fun at all.

It's been a quiet afternoon at home. Long phone catch up with each of my sibs, I finally got round to telling all of them about the house as everyone has been in and out of the country. they weare all very sensitive about who finds out big news first in the familygrin

Thank you all for the lovely messages. It's a little better with dh but not much. I saw red this morning because if I described my day yesterday you wouldn't actually believe me. I told dh he wasn't pulling his weight at home. He said he's under stress at work and saw red. As you can imagine the conversation didn't end well. sad

On much much more cheerful news....I got this note just now from the headmaster of the school I am sponsoring: "Hi, this is to say thank you for sponsoring our school. We got the money you sent to us and used it as you directed. x for feeding for the month of September, x for the books, x for fuel and x is being used to provide the teaching aides as and when we need them. We were able to find 100 school bags that would be supplied at x each and the 100 pairs of shoes for x per each pair. We have taken delivery of the school uniforms and the rest of the exercise books, pens and pencils. We have given out some of the exercise books for use by the pupils we have also given out some of the pens and pencils for use. I will scan the receipts and mail them to you on tuesday. Thank you and may God bless you." (I have replaced the amounts and currency with x by the way!). That has really warmed the heart.smile

Right, dd finally asleep, off to look at 'new in' on the Selfridges websitegrin

noviceoftheday Sat 21-Sep-13 21:26:36

Oh poor you Sleep. I have been thinking of you as I was waiting for dd to sleep.thanks

I am actually flying out again tomorrow so I guess never go to bed on a row replaced by don't go 5000 miles away from home after a row. Dh hates talking about these things though and would rather watch tv and pretend it didn't happen.

Evening all, I am just de-lurking long enough to say I hope it's ok but I have started following lots of you on pinterest, I would love to be an active member of the thread but I can't keep up but love looking at your links and boards. My wardrobe has never looked in better shape!

Mrssheepiness don't worry about keeping up, I sometimes just dip in and out of the thread! We don't bite, honestly smile

dry no, I'm about halfway there - I just wanted to p*ss a bit of my bonus up the wall - no point working hard for no treats! Bag purchase still scheduled for December.

sleep I am taking DCs to Nat History museum tomorrow - wave if you see me smile

I will Amber, you will recognise me by the fact that I will probably be snarling at my DC's, or frantically searching for a lost one smile.

Am feeling slightly cheered by Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man atm. Yummy.

Please hang around mrssheep, who are you on Pinterest?

The j brands are definitely going back, I think it's the weird jodphury bit around the knees that spoil them. I am warming again to the skirt though, I tried it on with a few things from my wardrobe and it looked nice.

I popped into 100%design exhibition yesterday and saw some fab house stuff. What I really fell in love with though, was these kimono robes! utterly beautiful. I have no idea how much they are but may be one for my Christmas list. I think I am going to bite the bullet on the Gucci halter neck too Marsha, it doesn't look like it will ever be reduced. I love that sweater btw. Coat looks nice too but hard to see what you mean about the collar online.

shopafrolic Sat 21-Sep-13 22:15:38

Novice what a lovely message, and great that they are spending funds the way you have instructed.
DH hates talking so rows take days to fix in the Shop household too. Hope you get a chance to resolve before you fly. Are you away for long?
Love the thought of a MNV mummy meet by the Brontesaurus (or is it a Diplodocus?) smile
MrsSheepiness stick around. If you link a in I'll follow you right back.
Sleep enjoy the sheets and going starfish in the bed!

I've decided that after the MU lunch, I'm taking myself off to Selfridges to get some nice new make up to replace some of the tatty old things I currently have. It will be my special treat to myself grin

shopafrolic Sat 21-Sep-13 22:21:16

Saw this and thought of *QueenC*

shopafrolic Sat 21-Sep-13 22:22:08

Link a Pin MrsSheep sorry for typos

mignonette Sat 21-Sep-13 22:23:46

MrsSheepiness There's not a minimum contribution rule so we'd all love to share in your purchases and general fashion news. What's your pin name if you are okay to post/PM it? What is your style in general? What designers/shops do you like?

Novice Hoping things settle, sometimes it is just as healthy to let things go as it is to have a big 'post row debrief'. I'm not big on the soul baring stuff either- been there, got the poster' thirty years ago as a student re the talking till 3 a.m deep and meaningful stuff! Great letter from your school. What an achievement of yours.

Decam so sorry to read about the house. How frustrating.

Marsha I hear you re your recent visit w/ family. I had the same issues re my Fathers disinterest at times. Hope you can shake it off and feel happier about it all soon.

Sleep Hard work for you. Hope a nice pressie is coming your way.

One feel better soon. Do as the Doctors say and convalesce flowers.

shopafrolic Sat 21-Sep-13 22:25:04

Found you MrsSheep you have some amazing handbags! envy

If any of you are in the medical profession or have experience with this type of query could you help? I happened upon, through reading a thread on a different forum I go on, a condition I have never heard of before which fits ALL the physical illness symptoms I've been experiencing for years to the letter. Well everything bar things that can and have been explained by other things. How would I best approach my GP about asking to be tested for this condition? I'm not in any way saying I have it, I just feel that since my physical health is so poor and no reason for it has been found despite many many other tests, that it would be worth ruling this one out. I just don't really know how to broach the subject without sounding hysterical and as if I'm trying to convince myself I'm ill IYSWIM?

MarshaBrady Sat 21-Sep-13 22:30:04

Sleep you definitely should, having loved it for a while. Hope tomorrow is ok.

Thanks Mig I feel a bit bad now, they show their interest in others ways, photos mostly! And are very generous. I just need to change my expectations to meet their behaviour. I won't expect much interaction next time.

Welcome MrsSleep! What sort of stuff have you bought lately?

MarshaBrady Sat 21-Sep-13 22:30:43

Whoops I mean MrsSheep

mignonette Sat 21-Sep-13 22:39:39

Sleep Those robes are gorgeous. I have silk ones bought in Korea the last time i was there. I have an emerald one, a navy one and a dark pink, all w/ large silk thread embroidered flowers, plant imagery and other images representing Korean folklore. The emerald one has a beautiful grey, ivy green and burgundy dragon creature on it. The dark pink has Chrysanthemums and the navy has almond blossom on. I love them and wear them as jackets, coats, dress covers and on the beach. I still have a lovely pale peach and cream lace edged Kimono top from TopShop bought in 2003. It wraps several times around the waist.

Here are some from River Island-

here; here (which is particularly lovely; here and gorgeous red fringed kimono

Kate Moss looks good in Kimonos. They are apparently THE thing to wear on the beach as opposed to kaftans. I like both.

I pinned a red Kimono jacket from River Island a few days ago but cannot find it.

This is my latest project. I spent today clearing out one of the spare bedrooms to remake into a new office. I found loads of old peices of fabric and plan to add some bands of floral material across some of my T shirts like that pin.

Am loving this Demeulemeester dress and this slouchy Stella suit. That is what I'd spend a bonus on. Not that the NHS does them!

Have also found and followed you MrsSheep smile you really do have fabulous handbags envy

mignonette Sat 21-Sep-13 22:52:31

Marsha That's it really in a nutshell, changing your response to protect yourself from falling into that gap of not getting what you are hoping for.

I didn't perceive you as complaining about anything, nor being unreasonable. Being an adult child w/ your own children is always going to make things different. Infrequent visits place huge pressure on everybody don't they? flowers to you.

One Go see your doctor. MN is full of people merrily self diagnosing when in fact a HCP would advise you to seek advice for queries such as yours. Write it all down and present it factually w/ your own notes arranged as a kind of time line.

Found you MrsSheep and I have joined your flock. Love the Chanel and all the other pins I liked.

QueenCadbury Sat 21-Sep-13 22:53:35

grin at shop thinking of me. I'd love to go and see all 80 gromit a but no way am I queuing for 6 hours!

sleep you have my total sympathies. I do a fair amount of weekends alone when dh is on call and it is hideous.

novice hope you and dh have sorted things. I hate having arguments. We tend to bicker rather than argue as such but often one of us will end up laughing as we realise how totally unreasonable we are being! It's so hard when you're both working and trying to manage the home. I admitted to dh last night that I'm unlikely to ever go back to work as although it has it's moments of boredom and I miss one aspects of working, I just don't miss all the juggling of the other stuff.

one without knowing too much about what you're wondering about, I would recommend broaching the subject with your GP or specialist. Obviously this all depends on whether you have a sympathetic doctor or not. Feel free to pm me.

Must go as am likely to be woken early by an excited birthday boy!

mignonette Sat 21-Sep-13 22:53:52

I meant to say 'diagnosing each other' One, not self diagnosing.

I know mig I wasn't asking for a diagnosis , just how best to approach the GP about it. I'm not yet daft enough to convince myself I have all the ills in the world, I just really think it'd be worth ruling this particular one out smile

You are right though, factual is best.

QueenCadbury Sat 21-Sep-13 22:58:53

marsha with regards to parents, it's really difficult. Mine are hugely interactive but dh's not so much. I get upset by them especially as they interact more with niece and nephew but I have to not compare them with my dp and accept that's just how they are. Not easy though <hugs>

santamarianovella Sat 21-Sep-13 23:12:01

dec sorry to here that ,hope a better property comes up,

marsha lovely sweater and coat,i still have a few things : pair of boots,a couple of dresses, plain long sleeve tees, wool trousers, and hopefully the LV scarf, and a few other bits in sales,

novice great news!

sleep hang in there, hope you enjoy your evening and relax a bit,

mrssheep finally found you!,and started fallowing you too!

Be warned, I'm on phone again!
Dec sorry about the house, v disappointing.
Hello * MrsSleeiness*
amber too right. Can't wait to see your handbag in Dec.
shop how's the vodka? Be ware of pissed online shopping.
The D and G skirt is way out of my price range but to die for.
linus so kind of you to offer but what if it didn't fit? I like the paler one but it looks a bit summery to me. Will keep searching.

DH is out all day too tomorrow ( doing a sky dive for kids charity so can't complain) I'm on rugby duty, eek! Slightly concerned about him jumping out of an aeroplane but trying not to think about it. He told me he has checked his life insurance shock. Will be relieved when he gets home.

mignonette Sat 21-Sep-13 23:23:52

Dry Eek at your DH. I have bungeed and DH has sky dived/flown gliders etc but I cannot watch him do it.

Good luck to him, hope he raises loads (and makes sure the nylon webbing is placed very carefully around his bits as too late to adjust half way down).

santamarianovella Sat 21-Sep-13 23:32:41

dry ,i wish your dh all the best of luck, and what a great thing to do,though a bit extreme.

justasecond Sat 21-Sep-13 23:35:39

Evening!
Thats a bit nerve wracking Dry my palms are sweaty just reading that (afraid of heights) I am sure your DH will be fine though!
I am off to Bicester in the morning, hoping I can get my mitts on some boots in rag n bone.
Mignonette I like that stella suit, I wonder if loose trousers are on the verge of a big comeback? I just love the slim leg silhouette too though.

Eeek! Good luck to DH dry rather him than me!

mignonette Sat 21-Sep-13 23:41:36

I think loose trousers will be around big time next spring. Plenty of them on the runway in neutrals-lots of creams, coffees and pastels.

I have always loved Sailor pants and do you remember those linen drawstring pants that were really fashionable around 1992-4? I wore those w/ a tiny shrunken CK T shirt and thought I looked all that.

Novice meant to say! that's a lovely letter , you're amazing . Hope your day is better than yesterday and you sort things out before you travel. X

LinusDKD Sun 22-Sep-13 07:45:58

Morning!

Welcome MrsS, I am following you on pin as well. And I agree, nice bags!

sleep those kimonos are gorgeous. The website doesn't mention where (or whether) they are for sale. But I can imagine them being £££.

I have an cotton kimono style dressing gown bought in Thailand and DH always says I look good when I wear it. I love the style, but I think I bought the wrong colours for me so I only wear it occasionaly.

dry good luck to your DH today!

marsha it took me ages to realise, but when I decided in my late twenties that I could not change who DM is, it made life so muche easier and our relationship a lot better. But it's not easy sometimes, is it. flowers

Oh Marsha I'm a bit late with this! but it's tough with parents isn't it? I do a lot of deep breathing and counting to ten when ours visit!

shopafrolic Sun 22-Sep-13 09:03:37

Good luck and a soft landing for MrDry
Happy birthday QueenC junior
Justasecond have fun at Bicester
I watched Les Miserables last night (never seen the musical) - bit gloomy wasn't it? grin

mignonette Sun 22-Sep-13 09:18:38

Shall I? shall I?

Burberry Little Crush Bag.

And a close up Here.

There's all kinds of permutations in animal prints too- giraffe, cow, leopard plus mega pricey Python but I have lost my heart. They come in big and small.

shopafrolic Sun 22-Sep-13 09:54:38

Sorry Mig not for me. It's the print. Ever since Harry from 1D wore his mum's shirt, and Alexa et al had the clutch at LFW.......

mignonette Sun 22-Sep-13 10:01:18

Yes I Know that Alexa had it sad. Have you seen the other prints and styles?

MarshaBrady Sun 22-Sep-13 10:01:31

Thanks everyone thanks so nice. At least I'm home and didn't fly across the world to feel rotten (that long flight loads up expectation too).

Mig I think it could work with your style. I love that Stella suit, really nice.

shopafrolic Sun 22-Sep-13 10:04:37

Sorry Mig didn't mean to sound harsh. It was a cute print - I just struggle when you see things everywhere and know they'll be massively copied, it rather takes the shine off. Will take a look at other prints this afternoon.......

shop have reported you to DD.... She's no 1 1D fan and you've dissed Harry's style (see what I did there?) she'll be coming to get yougrin
Who would have guessed that rugby mummies are so chic? shock off to tour the pitches to do fashion recce -- watch DS play-- !!! Lovely day to be outside though tweed jacket, bf jeans, gazelles, cross body bag

mignonette Sun 22-Sep-13 10:18:51

Shop you weren't harsh. No offence taken smile.

My reservations are about the Alexa association and the fact that there'll be copies everywhere. Then again, there are copies of my Mulberry's everywhere too but the real thing is obvious in the flesh. Also it may be too young for me and I have had issues w/ calf hair wearing rather badly, getting eroded shiny patches.

Hmmmm hmm. Unsure WTD.

foxysocks Sun 22-Sep-13 10:47:55

(((marsha))). parental stuff is SO hard isn't it? I don't know how to safeguard my own relationship with my children against this stuff.

shop the cos dress is more SS, but I may be able to style into AW with tights and thermal layers, you are right.

mig I couldn't carry that bag off but I think you could.

talking of thermal layers.... which ones do you guys rate? I have been looking at uniqlo, and also the fleece lined opaques from JL. boring but necessary purchases I fear.

has anyone bought from <whispers> jack wills?! it seems it's not all logoed hoodies, have seen a sweater and a dress I might like to try on. does anyone know what the quality is like?

MrsRadicchio Sun 22-Sep-13 11:10:23

Foxy I think you can safeguard your relationship with dc by making the relationship about their needs, not yours. So that they feel able to flourish as people with intrinsic worth, rather than with the weight of parental expectation.

As with all parenting things, easier said than done, of course. There are some good books on that kind of thing, the "how to listen so kid will talk" one gets a lot of good reviews on here.

I like the quirkiness of the bag Mig. Can "see" you with it.

Novice hope you and dh are able to resolve things soon. Great letter from the school.

Sleep I hope you are coping with the DC, find it hard when I am looking after the dc solo especially bedtime.

AW I still have a few things I am keen to get. Have just ordered some coated jeans from MnS (won't link as they look hideous on the website but have good reviews). I also want to get some calf length black boots for wearing with skirts and some tops in my best colours.

As well as that I also want to get some hi tops (veja) and taupe spirals.

Shame about your jalouse Queen but I agree they were too distressed.

One having a shop for yourself post MU sounds like a good idea.

Dry kudos to your dh!

Decameron Sun 22-Sep-13 11:15:40

Dry hope your DH lands safely, brave man.

Good advice about making it about their needs, MrsR, you are a wise woman!

MrsS, lovely bags. I have that pale blue DVF top, I love it.

I like the bag, Mig.

One, take care, sorry about the drumming but hope you heal well.

Didn't make it out so annoyed but have been promised next Sat off to meet a few A&Wers and ordered these leopard print heels from Boden, slightly mollified now. But not admitting it yet. grin

We've seen another house so you never know!

noviceoftheday Sun 22-Sep-13 11:22:51

Morning all from heathrow T5. Travel dress today - very dress down as long flight! Black North face fitted fleece over desigual rainbow top, banana republic beige skinny cords, KG ballet pumps. Varying degrees of bling including my hermes watch and balenciaga bag. Dh and I didn't super make up but at least are talking. Huge huge hugs to Marsha, am thinking of Sleep today (my dh is in same position) and hello and warm welcome to MrsSheep.

carrie74 Sun 22-Sep-13 11:41:41

Morning all.

dry here's to an uneventful landing, absolutely rather him than me (terrified of heights).

mrs sheep welcome! am about to follow you on pin.

mig I want to like the bag but I have a thing about drawstrings. Sorry sad

And big news today. I've only bloody gone and ordered an Aigle Cuckmere [cartwheels around the room]. I'd been secretly pinning best prices, and last night revisited the best, to find ALL had put their prices up or sold out in my size. In a panic I've bought from Amazon so I know I can return, plus, as a Prime member, I'll get it tomorrow for free!

I did try on a nice alternative in Tommy Hilfiger yesterday, and they gave me excellent service, so if the Cuckmere's no good, I think I'll go back there.

liberty just seen you've been in bath this weekend. I was in town yesterday, absolutely HEAVING!! Haven't seen it that busy for a long time, but loads of freshers arrived yesterday, so with the families too, numbers definitely swelled. Hope you've had a lovely time. Bath is lovely for shopping, but is still a bit needy, and doesn't compare to london. Some nice small indy shops though.

Have a good flight Novice

Has MrDry landed yet hmm - brave man!

I am still in pj's, as are DC's blush. Currently they are arguing because 2 older ones want to go to the cinema and youngest wants the dinosaur museum hmm. Need to mobilise but feeling very lazy and it a bit of a grey day sad.

Mig I like the bag smile

Marsha you are clearly not alone with the parental thing???I have similar issues with my DM, I have for to the point where I now expect nothing from her so anything positive is a bonus and see/spend time with her on my terms, have given up putting myself out sad.

noviceoftheday Sun 22-Sep-13 12:08:35

I think the bag is lovely Mig. I went to Prada and think that's my next bag. I am attracted to the idea of a black bayswater for travelling if I have to take my laptop but those trips are less frequent. I only have mine today as I haven't written the speech I am giving tomorrow!shock

Sleep, pj days are good. Ds wouldn't still enough for that sadly so they're out in the garden while dh is doing a Sunday roast.

Oh yes, mine are in the garden (when not on ps3 or minecraft wink, just in pj's! Have a great trip.

Off to a comic convention today grin am dressed in the Joker's colours! Not that I am at all nerdy/geeky oh no grin

grin One, have fun!

After chat about bags and laptops I just dug out my beloved old work briefcase/bag, it's Tanner Krolle, gorgeous charcoal grey cashmere under the holes. I have pinned it to the board, would you guys use it for more casual stuff or do you think it is too work-ish? confused

noviceoftheday Sun 22-Sep-13 12:44:52

gringrinOne! Definitely can't wait to meet you!

Sleep, hmmm, not sure how I would make that work for casual. Does it have a strap?

No news from DH yet!
In A and E with DS who's hurt his neck playing rugby . -- don't think its serious, 3 hr wait--
Phoned DD to tell her I'm at hospital with her DB but not to worry.... All she said was " can I have some chocolate?"!!!!
All in a days work chez Dry!

MarshaBrady Sun 22-Sep-13 14:08:54

Thanks Foxy and Sleep hugs to you too. It did cross my mind that it might be because they are boys. But who knows.

Novice safe journey.

Carrie excellent re the Aigle! I've heard great things about them.

MrsSheep am following you too, you have lovely clothes.

I tried the Sessun coat again. I think if I get over the fact it is more coat than pea in length I could love it. It's very good quality for the price.

carrie74 Sun 22-Sep-13 14:13:03

dry shock Hope all ok.

More good news in the Carrie household. After lots of deliberation about the cost, spoiling the kids etc etc, we've just booked flights to go to Florida at Easter again. Not sure we'll do any Orlando or touring this time: just 12 nights near Anna Maria Island hopefully. Bliss.

MarshaBrady Sun 22-Sep-13 14:19:35

And Dry hope all ok.

Carrie good one!

foxysocks Sun 22-Sep-13 14:52:59

yay carrie! that's an ace decision.

dry, omg, poor you! hope wait goes quickly

I feel really weird today, bit weepy. we are packing up the current kitchen and moving boxes around the house depending on what they contain. it's taking so much brain power to work out what we do and don't need. on top of that, i am losing my yoga room to kitchen/family/dining room, so have set up the sitting room for yoga. did my first practice in there today and it just felt weird. nothing looked or felt the same. i think the next few weeks and months are going to be harder than I had thought.

Crisis in Dry household over. DH has landed ("I want to do it again" ) and is driving home (raised over £4000 with his collegues!) DS has muscle thing knew it wasn't serious, hard mother . Just going to sit down and read Sunday papers and Style supplement .

Carrie the Aigle coat is exactly what I need! Gorgeous

squinney Sun 22-Sep-13 16:03:08

marsha breaks my heart to hear the disappointment . Remember it's dm & df, not you. Uncle splat felt the same way. I did too, until I spent 3 weeks in their pockets and they couldn't escape! smile you have a beautiful family (the four of you) I'm well jel (that's what you say in England init ?)

carrie74 Sun 22-Sep-13 16:09:17

Foxy I always get really unsettled when moving things around in the house, and a bit weepy. Is this just temporary until the kitchen's done?

dry phew! glad everyone well and safe! and fantastic job for your H.

Am totally p***ed off with the children today. The eldest has got an attitude and just seems to dawdle (and then comes home from school complaining she never finishes her work: because you're too busy DAWDLING), youngest is a total whinge bag. Usually it's fine, but I'm just fed up today. And reaction to announcement that they get to go back to Florida? Eldest: oh, ok I guess, but I really wanted to spend Easter at home for once. Youngest: NO! I don't want to go to Universal again. us: we're not. Him: oh, ok. [shrugs]. Ungrateful spoilt brats.

[sigh] they're alright really, just been one of those weekends.

MarshaBrady Sun 22-Sep-13 16:09:45

Squinney! ah that made me nearly have tears. Did he?! How interesting. I will pm you (look to the top right inbox for a red blob, more exciting than email haha). I feel like the Brady Bunch on here now grin

MarshaBrady Sun 22-Sep-13 16:21:22

Ah Carrie that't tough, how old are your dc?

Foxy how long til it's all finished do you think? It must be difficult, I haven't done a house before, but worth it in the end.

Dry good stuff!

Decameron Sun 22-Sep-13 16:36:22

Well done, Mr Dry!

Carrie, I think you will love the Aigle, it's one of my best buys. I hate when my children whine. I have a sign in the kitchen which says No whining but do they listen!

Marsha, I think the Sessun coat is lovely. Hope you are ok. flowersListen to your sister!

LinusDKD Sun 22-Sep-13 16:54:05

one if you haven't bought a winter coat yet, Asos have up to 60% off coats for 24 hrs only!

Catch up later.

Carrie tell your kids that you've given their tickets to mine!grin we went at Easter and a couple of years ago and they're desperate to go back so am I bloody loved it all!!!!!!

libertychick Sun 22-Sep-13 17:03:15

Marsha flowers I think when families live apart it puts a lot of pressure on the times you do meet. I always end up feeling stressed/tired/deflated after visits home. Great advice from MrsR on how not to repeat the pattern. Love the jumper and the peacoat is great.

I might not buy anything else now until the sales…there isn’t anything I really need (maybe a navy skirt) – was just thinking yesterday that I haven’t felt like that about my clothes in ages, there are always things I like but actually I have enough for now – you can all quote this back to me when I post next week linking new purchases grin. My new coat has made me feel quite pulled together.

Carrie hope the coat is great – ignore the kids – they’ll love the holiday smile Bath was busy – loved it. Lots of wandering around, I didn’t shop <halo emoticon>.

Foxy focus on how fantastic it will all look in the end – you’re getting that amazing Aga!!!

Santa I would never link my kitchen – it’s awful – think farmyard scenes with chickens on the tiles – not worth doing it though, to get what I want we’d have to knock walls etc and we’re not staying that long in this house.

Dry glad to hear DS is ok – tell him to take it easy and make sure it’s healed – my DH spends a fortune on chiropractors constantly having his neck sorted after getting lots of relatively minor injuries in his teens and twenties – paying for it now in his forties. Well done MrDry - I did a skydive about 10 years ago – absolutely amazing feeling (and I am terrified of heights) but I’d do it again – if my experience is anything to go by he’ll be high on it for a few days!

libertychick Sun 22-Sep-13 17:08:44

Mig I love the bag and think it's v v you!

santamarianovella Sun 22-Sep-13 17:09:47

dry so glad everything is ok with your family, was thinking about you this morning, and well done mr dry!

marsha, hope you are feeling better today, parents can behave like children sometimes, you can never know what to expect from them, dont let this incident affect you.

carrie the coat is beautiful, and congrats on the awesome easter trip!

novice safe trip, and hope all is good between you and your dh once you get back home.

sleep how is it going so far? did you go out?

foxy we did some minor renovations earlier this year, and although it looks much better,it still felt strange for a couple of weeks.
dec hope you get the house this time.

we went to the apple store this afternoon,it was chaos,i left dh there and took the dcs to the primrose bakery, heaven!
i wore my frame denim luxe noir skinnies, with an old james perse grey sweatshirt, high black heels and the celine phantom,dh said to take it down a notch ,its just the apple store not a photo shoot grin

Marsha you have such a nice sister and I like the sound on Uncle Spalt!grin

Foxy just focus on the end result. I get v stressed by my house being upside down but it's like having babies, not v pleasant at the time but well worth it in the end and you forget about the horrible bits!

Hi everyone! I've been catching up today - I don't get much time to post during the week but usually manage to read most days.
Carrie I love your new coat. I would like an Aigle too - a friend of mine is having a 'pop-up shop' in a few weeks (her sister has an independent clothes shop) and they usually stock Aigle. They sell at a discount on the day too, so I will have a try on smile.
Dry glad to hear your husband landed safely. I did a skydive a few years ago too - it was hair-raising (literally!) but an experience I will never forget (the awful DVD I got along with it makes that impossible grin.
Liberty glad you enjoyed your weekend in Bath. I was there two years ago for a weekend and loved it, especially the Thermae Bath Spa - the rooftop pool (I think mignonette mentioned it earlier?) was blissful. I was meaning to say too about the COS navy skirt I have pinned. I wore it for only the third time on Friday and the hem seems to be unravelling already. I had a closer look at it when I took it off and the hem is uneven, so I'm not convinced about the quality of it. I had washed it before so it's maybe that, but I did it on the delicates cycle so it should have been okay. Hmmm.
The main thing I need for Autumn/Winter is a new coat but I would like a few new tops, mostly 'going out' tops and some knitwear too.
I have a lot of work to be doing today and garlic-kale mash to make for dinner (using up the contents of our veg bag smile, so I'd better stop procrastinating! Hope you all have lovely evenings.

shopafrolic Sun 22-Sep-13 18:15:57

Hugs for Marsha I have the same issues with my mother who only lives 5 mins away but doesn't seem to care less about DS. And my DB and DSIL live abroad - always a big build up to visits, I always feel let down. My DB and I don't get on, and I seem to forget that and then feel disappointed that he isn't always that nice to me when I see him!
Squinney you sound ace - as does Uncle Splat!
Awful day here too - must be the time of year. DS misbehaving, I had an epic meltdown and had to retire to bed! hmm
Foxy change is a good thing sometimes - try and embrace it.
MrsR awesome wise words earlier!
Novice safe travels - I wore the J Crew tee today - the colour is awesome - thanks
Waves to Blooming
Dry is DH celebrating tonight?
I have some online codes for 20% off at M&S if anyone needs anything. Valid until tomorrow.
Liberty glad the coat is working for you and that you had fun in Bath - I love it there. One of the Fashionistas on that C4 documentary is from there.....
Carrie wine

shopafrolic Sun 22-Sep-13 18:20:32

P.S. Squinney I love how down with da Inglish language you is grin

shopafrolic Sun 22-Sep-13 18:28:36

Santa I always glam it up when I visit the Apple store - it disguises my complete technical ignorance! <hopefully>

Well, I wasn't prepared for how warm it's been today! Went out in a big woolly cardigan only to have to get dp to help me take it off halfway through the day as it was so warm

Waves back to shop! I forgot to say mignonette I like that Burberry bag. I love this Jerome Dreyfuss one here but it's a similar price, so on my 'inspiration only' list wink.
I really should stop procrastinating now.....

shop you're on good form this evening despite your stressful day!
DH is on a big high right now....gone out to hit some tennis balls, due back at 7, doubtless all giddy. We've relived the jump via his DVD Blooming, actually didn't look at all scared (I'd have looked much more uncool)...he's super chilled about anything like that infact he'd be great on I'm aCelebrity because he's not scared of anything, eating bugs would be no prob, dead or alive....quite a disgusting man really . I'm sure well crack open a bottle, but not sure I'll be able to handle his hyper excited mood hopefully he'll crash out as he had 5 am start ... hopefully during Downton

Have you all seen Marant in style mag? There's a beautiful shirt on p59, at Matches, but not online yet. Lovely.

Are we syncing up on being pissed off with DC's/DH's now? I have just completely lost the plot with mine, put half their dinner in the bin and sent them upstairs, told them I don't want go see them again tonight - and I mean it. Am sat outside simmering with you lot and a glass of wine, although I have offloaded on DH who called just as I sat down and has been told he can't skype with DC's. sad. We went to the cinema this afternoon which was fine but DS1 is developing a real attitude that the other two imitate, then DS2 is so hard to discipline at his age and just plays the clown when he is told off, making the others laugh and winding me up even more hmm.

Santa you were two minutes walk from my house not that you would have wanted to be here today smile

LinusDKD Sun 22-Sep-13 19:33:04

sleep wine wine wine

Well done Mr. dry and happy DS is ok.

mig If you love that bag, I say go for it. I know the heart print shirts etc have been worn by every wannabe in town, but that will be old news in a couple of months time.

carrie I love the Cuckmere but I have not been able to try it on IRL.

novice safe flight and that letter you got from the school is so lovely!

I might have found my first ever item of clothing in animal print:

equipment

MrsRadicchio Sun 22-Sep-13 19:58:05

Oh Sleep I second the wine recommendation. And adopting Dry's blotus position once they are in bed...I have been doing that one a lot, comatose on the couch!

On another note, had a quick look for leather skirts for you - remembered muu baa had some nice ones but only found this and this (Think they may be the same skirt actually).

Linus I think Amber linked that shirt a while ago, it was on sale at the dressing room. V nice.

shopafrolic Sun 22-Sep-13 20:00:50

Wasn't that the shirt that I kept linking to in the Dessing Room sale that went down to £90 Linus
Sleep it must be in the air musn't it? DS has been truly horrific today, and I only have the one child so kudos to you! (And hugs and wine) Your bag that you Pinned is gorgeous but not sure about how to work it for casual...... <not much help am I?>
Dry Anna Wintour married to Bear Grylls? smile

LinusDKD Sun 22-Sep-13 20:05:59

MrsR and shop I just compared the shirts and they are slightly different. The one I linked doesn't have a collar and is a lighter colour than the one at the Dressing Room.

Another item that can go on my A/W wishlist and that I can't buy until I've bought my winter coat

shopafrolic Sun 22-Sep-13 20:08:42

Phew! That's ok Linus it's a fabulous shirt - I'd hate for you to have missed a bargain! The one I tried was gorgeous on but yes, definitely had a collar.

Argh, it gets worse, now DH is hmm with me because I let DD call him and of course it was 5mins of wailing 'I miss you Daddy, I want you to come home nowww!'. I can understand that upsets him but still think I'd trade places (tho he was buying me shoes in JCrew at the time - oops blush).

Thanks for the skirt links MrsR will check them out once peace is restored.

shopafrolic Sun 22-Sep-13 20:13:44

Sleep this won't be helpful but I hope it makes you chuckle! smile
Got a link for the shoes? Xxxxxxxxxxx

santamarianovella Sun 22-Sep-13 20:20:44

sleep hope your evening is much better, have wine, and enjoy downtown, kids always do these things!

i would've loved to see you!,and my day was not that great too,the apple store was a last minute thing ,bad idea very crowded, and the dcs were getting bored,dd was touching everything and i couldnt keep her under control almost twisted my ankle,,so decided to let dh browse in peace, and went to primrose hill ,he met us 40 min later empty handed and with a headache. we walked around for a while ,lovely area!

liberty glad you enjoyed your weekend, bath is lovely ,and i made the mashed potatoes in muffin tins recipe you pinned,it was a success!

linus i love this shirt and im kicking my self for not buying it wnen shop linked it a while back!

mrsR grin, dry blotus is the next big thing! i tell you!

LinusDKD Sun 22-Sep-13 20:42:26

Poor * sleep*! I've had times like that with DC (well, with DS really) when DH is away and it sucks big time!

santa it's not the same shirt that shop linked so you can still buy it. <enabler>

QueenCadbury Sun 22-Sep-13 20:52:36

Hi ladies, hope you're all ok. Sounds like lots of upset and tears so wine, chocolate and hugs to you all.

We've had a good day. master cadbury is a very happy boy with the talking minion and took him for lunch and is now sleeping with him. He tries to be a big boy into fighting etc but deep down he's a cutie.

mig I like the bag and although i've sen Harry and alexa in the shirts I wouldn't associate it at all with them.

carrie74 Sun 22-Sep-13 21:03:59

Aw thanks all. I'd like to say they're all angelic ally asleep in Their beds now, but eldest (8: insomniac) is still up with us, but being nice. Youngest is 6 and gorgeous, but on the spectrum, and his lack of communication and understanding of others' emotions is sometimes v draining combined with a whinge.

liberty glad you had a lovely weekend. Bath is my favourite place in England, I'm so pleased we're only half an hour away.

sleep I'm hearing you sista [solidarity closed fist punch]. Is DH home soon? Solo parenting is HAAARD.

Linus I've not tried it IRL either [gulp], hence order through Amazon for safer return if necessary. It's on its way...

I'm loving the idea of a leather pencil skirt this season too, but need to assess other requirements and see how the budget's looking. Also need to stay my wish list for the US grin. Victoria's Secret cotton pants top of the list: a hit from last Easter. With any luck we will also be 20 mins from one of the biggest outlet malls in Florida. Last year did exceptionally well in DKNY....

RubyLovesShopping Sun 22-Sep-13 21:07:49

Hello Mnv ladies am back on coat hunting yet again! If I was looking at buying one from burberry which would you recommend: a navy thigh length trench or a wool/cashmere peacoat? It will be for autumn and spring and will get a lot of use. Which would be more durable and date less over a period of 5-10 years? Which other brands would you suggest? Marsha I like the look of the sessun coat v much but would be far too long on me.

santa I always get a headache when I visit the Apple Store too. Everything is so bright and white - I went once when I was recovering from the flu and the visit almost caused a relapse wink. The last time we visited, DP set the alarms off because he was absent-mindedly fiddling with the cable on one of the laptops (so I empathise with visiting with out of control charges blush.
I like that shirt Linus. I tried this one on a few weeks ago and liked it here

RubyLovesShopping Sun 22-Sep-13 21:26:41

Should have done links!
this

RubyLovesShopping Sun 22-Sep-13 21:28:43

MrsR grin so glad my yoga moves are becoming popular! Carrie and Sleep cake wine

grin as predicted DH has flaked out on the sofa just in time for Downton!!!

Shop bear grills....ooooh I wish smile

The snoring's disturbing my viewing!!!!!!

Blooming like both....you need both obviously! I'd go for the pea coat ESP as you like in a chilly place.

I think it was Ruby who linked the peacoat Dry - I'll have it though grin Watching Downton too.

RubyLovesShopping Sun 22-Sep-13 21:45:57

It was me and I do live in a chilly place too! But I have a north face down coat for walks to school and rugby pitches. Plus it is seriously unstylish. No chance at all of having both but can certainly manage one due to big birthday imminent plus dh bonus equally imminent. Happy to consider other brands just need guidance!

I am in bed, post wine and a bowl of cornflakes for dinner don't mention I might be selling myself as a nutritionist soon. Definitely adopting the blotus.

these are the shoes DH was buying me....

Bear Grylls...really Dry ? confused, I can't say I haven't considered it but getting anywhere near involved with all the bug eating and camping living on some remote island off grid near Scotland makes me <shudder> ....I don't think NAP would deliver up there would they? grin.

Glad DS is ok Dry

Ruby both your coat options sound lovely and like great investments...confused. Could you do one this year and one next? Get the one you feel best in first!

Sleep fab-u-lous shoes .....I love them!

santamarianovella Sun 22-Sep-13 22:04:42

blooming lovely shirt, love the bird print.

ruby the first one looks beautiful, but you mentioned living in a chilly place, dont see both of them as very warm, but they are really gorgeous .

dry bear creeps me out,

sleep gorgeous shoes,

linus dont tempt me im trying to be good wink.

Sleep have just been looking at J Crew online....some lovely stuff. Can't wait to check it out in November.

MarshaBrady Sun 22-Sep-13 22:26:22

Oh my word, the links are good tonight!

Ruby both are gorgeous, but I say the peacoat.

Sleep those shoes are divine. The colour, the shine.

Linus I adore that shirt.

Thanks for kind words. All ok here, had chat with lovely sister and feel much better. It's not for the reasons I feared. Thanks Squins smile.

MarshaBrady Sun 22-Sep-13 22:32:57

And pretty shirt Blooming.

MrsR really like the Plumo one.

shopafrolic Sun 22-Sep-13 23:04:35

I saw you Pin that Dry and thought the same!
Ruby another vote for the peacoat.
Sleep gorgeous shoes. Look after yourself - please eat well tomorrow? NAG

shopafrolic Sun 22-Sep-13 23:05:25

Meant to say Novice the J Crew lookbook you posted me was gorgeous.

MarshaBrady Sun 22-Sep-13 23:06:57

Shop I love the Burberry you pinned. The one with Cara D. But I'm not sure which coat it is on the Burberry site.

shopafrolic Sun 22-Sep-13 23:10:29

Hmm - me neither! On BB now but does it not click through to the Burberry site? It's an ancient Pin that I was moving to my Autumn Colour Analysis board so might be last season?

libertychick Sun 22-Sep-13 23:12:57

Sleep hope you have a better day tomorrow. Great shoes – wish I could wear shoes like that.
Blooming Thanks for the feedback on the Cos skirt – what a shame as the shape is great. For everyone else’s benefit this is it
Santa great to hear the potato muffins are good! Did you go plain or add anything to them?
Glad to hear you are feeling better Marsha
Ruby I vote for the peacoat –and struggle to control the envy—grin

MarshaBrady Sun 22-Sep-13 23:15:57

It loaded up a whole page of coats. But will look again tomorrow on the mac.

Nice skirt Liberty.

When I went into the store I felt overwhelmed, now I'm wondering whether I should have tried a bit harder to find the right Burberry coat.

libertychick Sun 22-Sep-13 23:27:12

Marsha ever since I bought my coat I have been seeing coats everywhere that I think might be better - we have too much choice!! The Marant and the Sessun are both gorgeous and give you lots of choice for winter.

noviceoftheday Mon 23-Sep-13 00:39:26

Ooh Sleep, those shoes are divine!

I am still travelling.hmm Waiting for my connecting flight. I will get there in 3 hours time, where I will have a short meeting about the speech I am giving tomorrow. Which I wrote on the flight heregrin. Novice@lastminute.com! Oh and I forgot my connector thing for my ipad and phone. cue immediate spend at the airport. I really shouldn't be let loose on anyone!

libertychick Mon 23-Sep-13 07:31:08

grin at novice. Hope it all goes well.

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 09:02:04

Liberty I love your coat, it's gorgeous.

Good luck Novice!

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 09:24:20

Morning all - I seem to be wearing a dress with leggings and boots - I'm not rocking the look at all - not quite sure what happened - I think the terrible weekend has influenced my style choices (badly).
Off to put some make up on (yes, I did the school run bare faced hmm ) and have a strong talking to myself.

Annianni Mon 23-Sep-13 09:35:28

Morning all...

Lots to catch up on.

Novice, good luck, hope it goes well and you don't lose or forget anything else
Hope you and dh make up properly too.

I found our last house move so stressful, it was hideous.

Decam so sorry about the house.
Hopefully you'll find something even nicer.

Marsha <hugs>
My dm was so disappointed when Ds1 was born a boy.
She even said something along the lines of not being able to take him shopping etc.

I think when family live in another country, so much pressure is put onto visits.
Where as if they're local, you can have a disappointing day out, but a better visit the next time.
If that makes sense?!

Ruby I love both <unhelpful sorry>
Have you tried them on?

Glad you had a good weekend Liberty.

And that you're mending ok One.

Love the j crew coat Dry.
I agree, it is very you.

Shop is today shiny trouser day?

Amber what did you wear in the end?

Sleep love love love those shoes envy
They remind me of the Gucci ones from '96, '97 ish <swoon>

Mig I love the shape of the bag, but I'd probably go for a different print, than the hearts.
But if you love it, then just ignore us lot grin

Annianni Mon 23-Sep-13 09:38:10

Don't worry about it Shop, I'm not showered yet and wearing yesterdays clothes grin

We've had an eventful morning involving...
Wet uniform
Sick
A wasp
A spider
And a tantrum.
<sigh>

LinusDKD Mon 23-Sep-13 09:41:45

shop I have been know to drop the DC off at nursery barefaced and with wet hair (but only when DH is traveling and I have to do the mornings by myself)

novice what are you like!

ruby I like both coats.

sleep I bet it wasn't hard for your DH to buy those shoes. They are every man's dream shoes for their wife or girlfriend. A bit like novice's Brian Atwoods wink

dry I absolutely love that J Crew shirt you pinned yesterday. Such a pretty colour.

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 09:47:50

Anni yup today is shiny leg day! And what is it with the wasps ATM? There was a really angry one who wouldn't leave DS and I alone in the garden yesterday - flew into his eye but thankfully didn't sting him so we ran inside and hid!
Sleep hope you had a restful night. What did you wear to your wine tasting in the end? And yes Amber what was your outfit?

Annianni Mon 23-Sep-13 09:54:33

We've had a busy weekend moving bedrooms again.
I'm back in ours mine finally.

Just got to put some Laura Ashley flowered wallpaper up for dsd next weekend and upstairs will be nearly finished thank god

Now we just need to buy...
A double bed for Ds2's room.
Wardrobes for our room.
A wardrobe for dsd.
And some new internal doors.

And we'll have done 5 rooms in just over a year.
Which isn't too bad when you realise that includes a loft conversion.
And the bathroom being stripped back to bare brick that was fun

foxysocks Mon 23-Sep-13 10:15:02

<breathe> <breathe> <breathe> <hyperventilates>

there is an awful lot of banging and crashing going on. am hiding in sitting room with DS perusing outnet for some normality

Annianni Mon 23-Sep-13 10:16:49

Aw Foxy it'll be fine grin

foxysocks Mon 23-Sep-13 10:17:44

I know anni! am not so bothered about today but am teaching three classes here tomorrow which makes it a whole different ball game.

libertychick Mon 23-Sep-13 10:19:35

Well done Anni - great work on the house.

Decam somehow I missed that you were pipped on the house - really sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed that something even better comes up.

Today I am wearing indigo 7FAM skinnies and COS navy linen slouchy sweater over a black vest top, silver heart necklace. Working from home so no shoes yet - will probably go with ASOS black chelsea boots if I venture out.

I love working from home - get more done and can MN a bit... smile

libertychick Mon 23-Sep-13 10:20:38

Keep breathing Foxy - it will be so good in the end!

Annianni Mon 23-Sep-13 10:25:36

Oh dear Foxy, good luck!

QueenCadbury Mon 23-Sep-13 10:54:07

I've done the nursery/school run today bare faced, unbrushed hair and in gym kit. I straight to our local park afterwards for a circuit class and it was fab! I realised yesterday that the big 4-0 is only 6 weeks away as I'd kind of forgotten about it now that I have the dress so some drastic action diet and excercise wise is needed. Dh has offered to pay for personal training sessions so I may take him up on that.

foxy it will be worth it in the end but I can imagine it's gong to be quite difficult doing yoga with all the noise.

dec don't think I ever said anything about the house but I'm a great believer in fate. Either the house will find you again as the other buyers will pull out or you will find something better.

ruby love both coats but I wonder how much wear you will get from the trench if you live where it's cold? It seems a lot to pay for a couple of months wear a year unless you can layer it up with warm things underneath. I wonder if coat would be a better investment?

sleep hope you survived the weekend and enjoy the gorgeous shoes. Not sure they are my dh's dream shoe. I think he'd be scared of me wearing them grin.

LinusDKD Mon 23-Sep-13 11:00:08

foxy if the weather is ok tomorrow, can you maybe do an outdoors yoga class?

Feeling closer to nature and all that. wink

foxysocks Mon 23-Sep-13 11:10:25

haha! i think that would be the least relaxing place tomorrow as they smash down walls at the back of the house linus

it's fine, we are lucky to have an extra reception room, so what was the yoga room is currently being turned into a kitchen/sitting room. they are plumbing my dishwasher, washing machine and sink unit along the back wall, we have the fridge/freezer in the corner, a set of open shelving with all the food and crockery on too. then dining table/chairs and a small sofa in there for some chilling out space. cosy! means the sitting room, which is at the front of the house and furthest from the noise, is clear (apart from a sofa that is too big to move!) so that is going to be the yoga room for the next few months. it's brill as it's so clear, when there isn't a class the children have loads of room for playing and games.

I ordered a couple of headbands from this etsy shop to keep my hair out of eyes during practice, looks like a really nice range

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 11:44:32

Gah! Missed DHL man by 5 minutes angry

Oh Foxy - take yourself out, sounds stressful sad

I did have a restful night, thanks - if any of the DC's woke up they obviously thought better of coming in to visit hmm - and rightly so! I did have to put them all to bed in the end, though they didn't get stories. All was relatively calm this morning and all 3 made it to school on time and in one piece - a miracle. I have been to the gym, had a coffee and feel much more like myself now. Anni suggest you sit with a coffee and chill a bit too after your morning grin.

LOL at Novice - how do you hold down such an important job gringrin?!

The wine thing is tomorrow night - DH gets back from NY at 9am so will probably be like a zombie, I still have no idea what I will wear but I will try and include the shoes smile. He got the metallic blush (gold) rather than the cinnamon - do you think that's a good choice? Am now struck by indecision and of course I won't be able to swap them later!

Glad you enjoyed the circuits Queen - definitely take DH up on the personal trainer offer!

foxysocks Mon 23-Sep-13 11:57:07

yes I much prefer the metallic blush sleep. good choice!

santamarianovella Mon 23-Sep-13 13:29:48

ani thats a lot of drama for one morning,

foxy the end result will be worth all the discomfort, think of the amazing kitchen you will get.

liberty i did add some cheese and veggies, highly recommend it for fussy eaters.

queen yy,to your dh offer, a PT will give you faster results,

sleep glad things are better today,

marsha if you are not %100 happy with the coat ,then i think its best to take it back and get one that you like, maybe during liberty'smid-season sales?
and regarding burberry coats,i get so lost in store, and could never tell which was the one i liked, and the styling on their website or NAP,is much nicer than in store .

i did the SR today in gym gear and sans make up too,

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 13:41:30

There are some gorgeous Missoni flats (including pointed toes) on Cocosa today........

Annianni Mon 23-Sep-13 13:48:08

La la la fingers in ears I'm not listening Shop.
I need wardrobes!!! grin

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 14:03:20

Santa you're right about Burberry. The stores are so uninspiring compared with NaP and Cara D advert styling. I think I will take back the Sessun. I love it but the length and buttons not on full length really bugs be when I do it up. It makes it more 60s swing and I really want a classic peacoat. Wonder when the sales start.

Foxy hang in there! Doing well.

Anni dgd get the best outfits. I'm ok as long as they everything else is equal. Although very beautiful <swoon at those exquisite French brands>.

RubyLovesShopping Mon 23-Sep-13 14:29:07

Thank you all for positive comments about the coats, the peacoat is my fave but the trench just feels more classic, this coat will be a small investment so I really need to feel it will last- is 5-10 years unrealistic??
I could barely sleep last night with thoughts of coats whirling around my head!! (Clearly have bigger things to worry about too just not at that moment)
Anni I Managed to get to a burberry store at the weekend and tried a few on but as some of you have said difficult to remember which is which when I looked them up on the website, we live in the sticks so no chance of getting back there again for a while. But have skillfully organised childcare tomorrow for a quick flit to the outlet shop, will take photos this time.
Marsha I liked the Sessun coat a lot until I checked the measurements and it would practically be around my knees.
Carrie I love the cuckmere tried one on last winter and it was soo cosy I hope you enjoy it.
Off to wake the littlest dc up ready for the school run.

santamarianovella Mon 23-Sep-13 14:52:15

i think they start around mid nov marsha have no idea about liberty though, but considering you are their customer, its worth to ask about the dates,

ruby both styles are classic investments, i have a classic trench that still looks great after 7 years, and i hope my grey peacoat lasts as much,
save the pics of the styles you like on your phone and just stick to them, otherwise you will get overwhelmed.

carrie74 Mon 23-Sep-13 15:05:26

Quickly as about to dash off to school run, but Aigle Cuckmere just delivered, and it's LUSH ACES,!! V v pleased grin

Shop you had a Dry-body-warmer moment......grin, I wasn't around to give you a stiff talking to!
<whispers! I hear some mothers drop their children off at school wearing pyjamas under their coats>

Having half an hour's sit down sans dcs with a cup of tea. Bliss. Silence. Just perched precariously on a wall to pick some impressive apples off my spindly tree.....bumper crop (only 3 last year shock ) and v tasty too. Feel like The Good Life!!!

Sleep I blame you for my virtual spending frenzy in J Crew last night. Funny how you all agree that coat is "me".... You know my style!

Coat wise I need this for arctic northern climes but want this, appeals to my Southern softie side

Foxy I'm holding your hand to help you get through it....this time next week you can do the same for me!

Or love boiled wool and in brown or navy ..... Cheaper, DH could buy me one for my birthday and can get 20% off at a party.

mignonette Mon 23-Sep-13 16:30:40

My goodness, so much to catch up on and worried I'll miss you of you out so apologies in advance!

Dry and MrDry Well done on the jump and well done for coping w/ the anxiety of it Dry.

MrsR wise wise words- I have the mantra that it is easier to change my response to something than it is to change somebody else's behaviour. I had a cold distant Father who also lived abroad (not that I am saying that yours is cold and distant*Marsha*) and I never approached him about it because I knew he'd cut me off. But I should have done for my own sake. He ignored my nephew, leaving my sister distraught and was odd w/ the rest of us.

Carrie well done on the holiday and that is such a typical older child reaction. My grown children now appreciate all the travel they experienced even though they were sometimes as stick in the mud as a pair of ninety year olds. The 'highlight'? My DD tantruming upon being taken on a surprise trip to EuroDisney aged 8. She wanted to go to Derby to visit a relative instead shock

I've been to Anna Maria Island along w/ Sanibel/Captiva. They are blissful Castaway islands. Lucky you.

Foxy I totally get it. I always hammer it home w/ DH that this kind of upheaval whether it be due to building/redesign of living space is profoundly disturbing for some people (I am one of them) and he has to allow for that. Can you find a painting/sculpture/ornament or something to place in your new room that you can focus on, something from the old room? Scent is important-find a familiar comforting scent to spray in there and dim the lights to blur the 'contours' of the room until you have acclimatised.

Ruby it is the navy wool for me. Did you see that article on how navy is the true style choice? My style crush Kate Phelan always wears simple yet beautifully cut navy pants.

Linus I have a similar snake print silk shirt that i wore to my Brothers wedding years ago (1997) still looks good. They don't date.

Sleep They are SEXY shoes. Absolutely splendid. I covet them (we need a covet icon). As Anni commented, they are like the Gucci ones from Tom Ford's time. They'd look wicked w/ a slouchy suit.

Novice You rock girl (and maybe need an assistant to sweat the small stuff?). I too am a writer of last minute stuff. I have to give the odd lecture at the local school of nursing and wing it all the time although not to over a 1000 people! Good luck although I suspect that none of your achievements are down to anything other than sheer bloody hard work. Luck doesn't come into it.

Queen personal training sounds perfect. I'd need it to get my lazy ass into action. No good at motivation. I used to facilitate the relaxation classes for patients years ago but I'd be useless at that myself. I don't do group activities well.

One How's the wounded soldier getting on grin? I hope you are healing and doing as you are told. flowers.

I bought some squishy cushions this weekend from Matthew Williamsons Debenhams range here and here to go w/ last years brushed velvet Chinoiserie style ones. DH sorted out one of the spare bedrooms into a better office for me to write in which was so kind of him and put in a little armchair so he can sit in there w/ me and watch TV/ paint his watercolours because I hate being shut away on my own and I can work through any amount of noise. We are having a blind made from this Marimekko Gingko fabric. I love it. Am looking for a navy/white geometric print rug to go w/ it and some pale orange/melon fabric to cover my existing chair and make cushions from.

I have another writing commission from Creative Fiction website so am very happy. I may ask you all for feedback on my drafts if that would be okay. They are very rough at the moment so it'll be some time.

I am very tempted by this Tory Burch sheepskin coat. What do you all think? too much? Worth waiting for further reductions? Another possibility is this Moschino check coat. I quite like this J Brand but the high neckline might be too hot for me. even in Winter, I find the city never feels truly cold although that may be my age.

This Westwood coat is a good bargain as it will not date.

I hope against all hope that my favourite Miu Miu coat on NAP will come onto OUtNet but i know in my heart of hearts that it will not. I may give in and shell out megabucks for what is an exquisite piece i have lost my heart to. DH keeps trying to persuade me to get it but I just cannot even though i have spent much more on a bag.

I'm good mig dutifully resting as instructed grin

mignonette Mon 23-Sep-13 17:25:47

Well done One. I'm a little sod for not doing as the Medics tell me so good for you.

Here is my new lipstick crush-Face Stockhom that also has the best website with a drop down shade chart making it easier to imagine what they look like.

I really like this parka style jacket worn by Ewa Wladymiruk in Milan. Any ideas folks about who it might be by?

LinusDKD Mon 23-Sep-13 18:18:25

carrie you know we need pictures of the Cuckmere! wink

mig that ginkgo fabric is stunning and just what we are looking for to make some cushions for our new sofa.

It's perfect in more than one way: the ginkgo was DH's grandmother's favourite tree and Marimekko is a Finnish company which also has a personal meaning.

I will have to see it IRL to be absolutely sure it's what we have been looking for but I really like it. I showed it to DH and he loves it too.

Which reminds me, I have two Marimekko nighties I bought in Finland. One of them is so long it nearly touches the ground, not very sexy but oh so cosy in winter.

LinusDKD Mon 23-Sep-13 18:24:10

marimekko

Mine is red and white. smile

LinusDKD Mon 23-Sep-13 18:42:50

Oh and I LOVE that J Brand coat! The colour, the high neckline, the price, everything.

<sits on hands like never before>

Ooh, I like the Jbrand coat too. It is not dissimilar to this Allsaints one, also available with fabric sleeves and a bit less £, I tried it the other day and only resisted because I had only bought the faux fur days before. It's so elegant on and done up. Lower collar Mig wink.

I quite like the Tory Burch Mig, but think I would have to change the buttons! also it is still a bit £steep.

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 18:51:58

Ah Linus you are good! It's lovely.

Ruby I'm the same about purchases. Am agonising, still!, over the Sessun. Not sure which way to go. And I may have woken at 3am thinking about the Lanvin boots too after dh's comments.

And the Burberry site is just as annoying, I have no idea which coat that Cara D one is.

santamarianovella Mon 23-Sep-13 19:52:42

mig the jbrand is lovely,

marsha can you contact burberry customer service and ask on behalf of us all? grin, and your lanvin boots are lovely im thinking of buying on in black, like the concealed heel,

linus that looks super cozy!

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 20:18:52

Marsha I am sure I pinned that last season. When did Cara model for Burberry? This season?

Mig I know I'm a boring pragmatist occasionally but how would the sheepskin fare in the rain?

I think I am a shopaholic grin ........have stopped spending after my work purchases earlier this month and 2 pairs of shoes and a pair of boots and before my visa bill arrives....only been about 2/3 weeks, but I'm bored and itching to buy something. Think I have a problem haven't i?

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 20:28:07

Dry not loving the Boden coats as much as the first two you pinned. The Aigle looks super toasty and you already know how I feel about the camel coat. this is mine that Mig enabled me to purchase last year. And I'm super glad she did as I love it so.....
Carrie pics of the coat?
Marsha what exactly did DH say about the boots? Send the coat back if not perfect.

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 20:28:16

I think you might be right Shop. Darn

Lol Santa grin I'm building up to going in armed with pics from NaP etc. Completely painful experience!

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 20:36:02

shop I'm not sure it wouldn't be blasphemy wink. He doesn't deserve to be in print with such words, will pm you and you can soothe and tell me it's ok.

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 20:42:10

OMG I'm in shock and have soothed accordingly. Poor you flowers wink

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 20:42:14

Santa I really hope you get them. I much prefer your uber style and ok on something over dh's! They are really comfy too.

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 20:43:06

Haha Shop see! I can't even give public weight to such words grin

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 20:50:32

Nope. They shall never be mentioned here. grin

Ooooh Marsha what on earth did he say about them?

Shop you're absolutely right about the coats.....ESP the camel. I love yours. I'd love a classic camel coat and I guess a compromise would be a mistake as it's an investment garment. I'll try the JCrew on in Nov when I'm down.

libertychick Mon 23-Sep-13 20:58:50

I sooooo want to know what Marsha's DH said!!! Can it be repeated at the MU????

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:01:10

lol yes as I drown my sorrows in the prosecco grin

Hang on I can put it on the mnv board.

Let me see...

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:06:02

Dry coats are definitely an investment piece. Get it right and they don't date. My camel coat, my Sportmax and my peacoat all feel fab and I don't think they'll date so I'm happy to invest.
Marsha needs the support of her fellow fashionistas at this traumatic time grin

libertychick Mon 23-Sep-13 21:07:30

No way Marsha just no way....

LinusDKD Mon 23-Sep-13 21:09:01

I think in this country it's grounds for divorce! grin

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:10:20

Love you guys, so funny. Making me laugh. God it really got to me you know! Had to ring him from Sainsbury's and say you've ruined the boots, can't believe you don't like them.

He said I love you and I said, I don't care about that, do you love the boots!?

grin

libertychick Mon 23-Sep-13 21:11:44

Opps cross post with Shop grin - was trying to express my disagreement with the comments not disagree with Shop - need to be able to type faster...

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:12:53

I bet Sainsbury's has never seen such beautiful boots either!

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:13:44

Ah you know Shop I go to all the glam places.

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:13:58

grin

libertychick Mon 23-Sep-13 21:16:22

He sounds totally unreasonable Marsha - are you sure you shouldn't LTB???? (is that the first Vogue LTB???)

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:18:21

You and me both kiddo, you and me both.
Marsha can't leave him, he's fab! He saved her trapped clothes fromStyle Passport using just common sense and a Twitter account, the man is a genius. (With no taste in boots)

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:20:28

Haha. Perhaps a Vogue bof. The French I do not care for such thoughts. Please go <dismiss wave of the hand>.

That's true he can twitter, I can't. And good for saving things from liquidation zones.

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:20:52

dismissive

He's obviously unreasonable marsha if he feels so strongly about them, I suggest you tell him to buy you a new pair of boots wink

I'm so shocked I'm going to throw a biscuit

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:22:05

And exclusive memberships........keep him for now. But tell him all eyes are on him - he's been warned! grin

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:23:38

He keeps saying I should get brogues or something. So it's not even the heel thing, as you all now know. <shock>

It's because I used to slob around in Cheap Mondays when we first met.

lol One he did say that. I was so gobsmacked clearly upset, he felt bad.

Hahhaha Shop indeed <eyes pointing eyes>

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:24:03

I tell him about the biscuit Dry.

I dress up to go to my Sainsburys....it's the place to be seen isn't it?grin

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:25:08

That's it! New boots for you, I'll take the old ones off your hands! <helpful>

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:26:44

lol Dry just the other day I thought.... if I had to dress to the number of people I actually know that I bump into then Sainsburys 3.00 on a Sunday I should throw on everything good I have.

Every time I go on a Sunday I see someone I know.

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:27:30

Haha Shop are you a 7?

God bad grammar in last post, ruffled.

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:28:47

7.5 Marsha but I can cut off a toe!

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:29:20

Eu40 god I'm taking this seriously aren't I?

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:29:22

Ha phew

Marsha I try to shop online and get it delivered because it's a bleeding social frenzy in there! and you know me, not the quiet-get-my-head-down-and-hide-behind-the-cereal type! lots of kissing and chatting....can take me hours!grin ...... Once met my former prima Donna hairdresser in there with his partner, thank god I'd just blow dried grin

"Cut the toe off" Lanvin? shop shock <faints>
someone get me some vapours......you can tell d Abbey's started

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:34:25

My toe you numpty!!!!

Oh....opps, yes shop cut your toe off......good idea, bit extreme though!

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:35:38

haha I know. The worst is when you go out thinking ah it's only the supermarket, no make up, no effort. Then BAM it's like a blinking reunion.

(Then there's the a couple that you have to strategically aisle hop to miss grin)

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:37:09

Oh yes your toe! Thought it was the Lanvin.

I do wish they'd put a cup holder on the trolley handle bars though....then you could sip your Starbucks on the way round.

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:38:22

This is Vogue! As if I'd suggest the Lanvin! hmm

I knew you meant your own toe Shop - numpties - sheesh, as if anyone would cut the toe out of a pair of Lanvin boots! grin

grin grin I'm an idiot! grin

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:40:56

Poor Shop's toe!

sleep DH back yet? How's it going?

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:42:50

sleep thanks! Finally the voice of reason has joined us smile
Marsha I'll suffer for my art. Just say the word if you want me to have them.....

Annianni Mon 23-Sep-13 21:43:31

I'm just so disappointed with his comments...

I'll have them and I won't have to lose any toes grin

Evening All, thank you for the warm welcome and the follows on pinterest.

To introduce myself properly I have not long a year or so ago turned 30 and am a mother to two wonderful little girls. As many of you have noticed I have an addiction to handbags, (was so tempted to get involved in the infamous bag thread but sat on my hands!) and lack a lot of confidence with my clothes so feel a great handbag can lift even the plainest of outfits.

I lost my way a little after having my girls so close together and sidlining my career in retail management (prizes available for those that guess my employer) to stay at home. I had my colours done by CMB last year which has helped me a lot and I am actually going again to see a HoC consultant with a friend this week. I wasn't convinced by my previous consultant and having done research on here feel HoC is a better option, the whole experience has really sparked an interest in me about the "science" behind colour analysis and the impact it can have on individuals. I was previulously diagnosed as a spring or light, soft and warm

I'm loving all the coat links as jackets and coats are probably my favourite items of clothing. Also just in the process of buying a house which needs a lot of work so am enjoying seeing your kitchen ideas, although I'm about to embark on a serious spending ban so had to get one last bag in sharpish!

I would love to be able to contribute to the thread but will probably end up staying as a lurker as I feel if I can't commit and contribute properly i'd rather not at all if you know what I mean.

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:44:51

See how generous we all are Marsha?

Annianni Mon 23-Sep-13 21:45:02

I forgot to say congrats to Mr Dry.

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:46:40

Ooooo which retailer MrsS? Clothing? Ex retail marketing manager being nosy......

Ahem MrsSleepiness it's not all fashion talk on here....do stay! even if you're not spending you can still lust .

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:48:08

MrsSheep Selfridges?

Annianni Mon 23-Sep-13 21:50:05

MrsSheep haven't you been on here before?
I'm already following you on pin from ages ago.

Thanks Anni ......and meant to say Mig although I'm a bit dim and stress at little things, I'm pretty calm in A and E situations or when DH decides to do some crazy life threatening stunt!

MrsSleepiness I used to be a fashion retail manager in my former life bCs

I get very excited when you link from their terrible website and have to hide the many threads on here slating us, although I do agree with some of it, and feed it back into the business any idea yet Shop?

I wish Marsha although did turn them down when headhunted to stay with my employer, have asked myself why on many occasions, thinking of the money I'd have saved on my bags!

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 21:53:16

Cos or M&S?

Yes Anni I delurked briefly around the time of the bargain arty rings in the NaP sale but went into hiding again shortly after. I do catch up with the thread every day and look forward to seeing the links, please don't think I'm odd, lurking is a wierd concept really though, I'm not a voyeur in real life!

M and S!!!!

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 21:58:46

Headhunted that's good! I applied for a job at Selfridges once, I have zero retail experience. But that employee discount looked nice.

Annianni Mon 23-Sep-13 21:59:08

I thought so.

Ditto what everyone else has said MrsSheep... Gorgeous bags envy

He's just about to get on the plane home Dry. I am very pleased about that smile. Today was fine, Mondays always busy here, all DC's have after school activities, so exhausted by the time they come home. I also had nanny back so that makes a world of difference smile. Relative calm in the sleep household smile.

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 22:02:36

Nice one Sleep well done you

Spot on Dry!

Don't know if I would have liked working for them Marsha but the discount would have helped ease that enormously!

I'm really pleased with my animal print slippers MrsS fab! sold out, lots of comments.

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 22:08:54

Nice one MrsS you'll have to feedback all the good stuff about their beauty dept too though. I was v impressed. Lots of my old colleagues headed for M&S. Have you left work completely now to be a SAHM? I left my role and can definitely identify with you saying about losing your way.....

Good, I'm glad you like them Dry I do love it when I see a link. I might not do my job any more but I still love the company, it's the kind of place that I think gets right under your skin and I desperately want them to do well.

Is it true MrsS that if your waters broke in M and S they gave you gift vouchers......spent ages in there when I was over due grin

MarshaBrady Mon 23-Sep-13 22:11:40

They really are on the right track with the new designer.. that press link I saw on here anyway. More of that type of stuff. With cheaper and middle prices. People do want them to do well, so I think they can with a bit of that leopard shoe focus.

santamarianovella Mon 23-Sep-13 22:12:18

mrssheep do stay, and join the chat,as you must have read,we talk about everything on this thread,im really intrigued about the retailer ,
marsha i actually know someone who works at selfridges, its very hard work, and the discount doesnt even make up to how hard they employees work.

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 22:13:49

And let's not forget the M&S coat

santamarianovella Mon 23-Sep-13 22:16:59

shop your coat and the pink one are soldout everywhere,
mrssheep thats an amazing job!

The beauty stuff is fab, I love all the niche brands they do alongside some of the more well known smaller brands Shop.

Yes it's the life of a SAHM for me, I never thought I would choose this path as I was 100% career focused but I don't regret my choice at all. I just wish that I had chosen a career that I could setup my own business in, that I could run alongside being a Mum when the girls get older but I wouldn't want to own my own shop as the level
of risk\commitment is too great.

It's odd isn't it Shop I never quite realised how much my career defined me or my style until it was gone!

Wow! That could have been me saying that! Completely identify. Stick around, I'm slowly finding my new style with the help of this lovely lot.

Decameron Mon 23-Sep-13 22:20:44

Mrssheep, please pass on that my 5yo is furious that I didn't buy her these pyjamas in time and now they are sold out in age 5-6!

Thanks, yes, I guess what's for you won't pass you buy and all that but there is not a lot on the market in Dublin. Gah.

QueenC, I used to go to a personal trainer the odd time, thought it was money well spent.

Night all!

Dry I'm not sure you know, I think it's an urban myth type thing as you hear the same about many retailers. I've had some awful and truly random things happen on my watch but never that! We did have a stray cat that had it's kittens in the store, we gave her some gourmet cat food!!

Hello Vogue-ettes! Just quickly de-lurking to advise that if anyone else is eagerly awaiting the grazia whistles 25% code, it appears to be WH25AW13 and is working, I just successfully placed an order - took a guess at changing the SS from the march code and it worked!

Keep looking Decam as I'm sure they'll come back into stock smile

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 22:26:45

Ooo thanks Westendgirl

Well done westendgirl smile

Really tempted by these beauties the spending ban isn't going well! Thanks Westendgirl. Shop I can't see your scarf, is it just me or is Pinterest a bit temperamental when it comes to links?

shopafrolic Mon 23-Sep-13 23:05:03

Not sure, seems to be working for me? Lovely flats.

justasecond Mon 23-Sep-13 23:26:28

Hi all. I am not even going to attempt to keep up with everyone withmy dodgy keyboard smile
sleep those j crew shoes are stunning and I wish I could walk in heels that high 7cm is my limit and even then I am teetering.
Mig I am sure that parka is from zara ss13 if not then they did a v similar one.
MrsSheepiness thats really interesting re M&S and they do seem to have got better this A/W although I am yet to buy anything from there other than school uniform, jeggings and food!
I like your m&s coat too shop DMBL40 has featured it on her blog today.
I am after an everyday bag probably in black. I am trying todecide between this or this I want it to be cross body.

Linus Glad you liked the fabric. I love it too and have a Ralph Lauren gingko print skirt in red that I think is a rip off of the Marimekko print. I LOVE that nightdress- I have wanted a striped stretchy long one for ages and actually think they are quite sexy- they cling!

That's a lovely All Saints coat dry. Tempted.....As for the wet sheepskin, I wonder what sheep do grin? I'll stay in my barn when it rains.

Just Thanks for the Zara heads u- will go hunting for that parka because I luffs it. That bag is a little Celine shaed and also reminds me of a McQueen bag from a while ago so the style will last and the price is much better too.

MrsSheep You must stay w/ us. Love those bronzey-gold umps. Very slick. I just spent £££ on M&S tights which stay up, don't make a grown woman look as if she is wearing a saggy nappy and wear well. I always buy loads of lain T shirts from there, A line midi skirts when I see them and lingerie. Mind you I skidded on the wet floor of M&S last week and nearly bashed my brains in on a display edging. More importantly, I got a black skid mark on my new Choos sad. The cobbler got most of it out though bless him. My baby son used to be a fit and catalogue model for M&S. Used to go to Baker St every few weeks to try on all the samples as he was bang in the middle of average weight/size. They used to make such a fuss of him.

Shop That scarf is very Jackson Pollock from my limited art education- very versatile.

Am on call tonight hence the 02:19 posting.

Morning!

MNV was so funny last night! marsha did you show DH the comments?

MrsS stick around, I'm also trying to find my style as a SAHM.

Today I am wearing a pair of cobalt Esprit skinny cords I bought last winter (3 weeks after giving birth to DD) and I still love them. I'm wearing them with a white Filippa K tee and my DKNY cozy (it's hard to know what wear when the seasons change so I'm playing it safe)

shopafrolic Tue 24-Sep-13 07:17:27

Morning all. I need some assistance. My SIL is looking for a pale blue classic twinset (not my thing at all!), and can't find anything where she lives so has asked me to look online in the UK. Has anyone seen anything?

QueenCadbury Tue 24-Sep-13 07:25:12

Phew, just trying to catch up during breakfast and am exhausted now! I purposely ignored you all last night as I have book club next week and haven't started either of my books yet. Went onto pin though and got sidetracked on there instead so still haven't done any reading grin.

I ache a lot this morning. And I've booked my first PT session for lunchtime. I doubt I'll be able to walk tomorrow!

mrssheep I also never thought I'd leave nursing as I loved it but sometimes these things just become too difficult to juggle with kids. But as I predominantly wore a uniform 4 days a week I've had to find my way over the past couple of years style wise too.

marsha if they can't say anything nice why do they bother? Dh ouldn't say something like that and then justify it by saying at least he's being honest, I wouldn't want him to lie, blah, blah, blah.

Must go and get ready for school...

QueenCadbury Tue 24-Sep-13 07:25:48

Stoopid iPad. Dh would say something like that.

Annianni Tue 24-Sep-13 07:45:26

Lots of ash and just ballerina's on brand alley today.

Shop does SIL want cashmere? Pure or (better) Brora should fulfil the brief smile. Or M&S?

Well done booking the PT session Queen, grin and bear the pain, it will pass and it means the exercise is working grin.

DH is home with the shoes, they are gorgeous, also cost same in $ as £ online so about £80 cheaper, means we are all happy smile.

Shop Pure collection? Lands End apologies do twin sets in supina cotton. John Lewis? now don't be thinking I'm a twin set and pearls type though ..... hides pearls, removes little cardi

Can anyone give me styling ideas ( not psychedelic ) for my red Hobbs skirt. I need to get CPW down and have worn it only once with grey so far sad

And Marsha, told DH what your DH said.....his answer?
" that's the whole problem with fashion isn't it? it's all a matter of perception....and a load of crap too"..... He didn't get a big kiss this morning, twit! grin

Annianni Tue 24-Sep-13 08:14:24

What about navy Dry?

Sorry Shop but that is so far out of my comfort zone, I wouldn't have a clue.

Just you and me showing our secret twinset love then Queen grin

shopafrolic Tue 24-Sep-13 08:24:08

Thanks - will take a look
Headed to Brand Alley Anni think they're being as bit naughty - since when have Spirals had an RRP of £279?!

shopafrolic Tue 24-Sep-13 08:35:56

Good news about the shoes Sleep
I think I've come out in hives but I found a twinset on the Lands End site. Thanks all!

QueenCadbury Tue 24-Sep-13 09:23:54

I love twinsets! Have you looked at woolovers. I haven't ordered anything from there myself but lots of MN seem to rate them.

QueenCadbury Tue 24-Sep-13 09:26:04

peterhahn but no pale blue.

Disclaimer: I have never shopped there in my life. It came up on a google search.

QueenCadbury Tue 24-Sep-13 09:28:42

What about good old m&s?

How have I survived 39 years without owning a blazer? I bought a gap navy one recently and I'm in love and wonder how I ever did without it. Wore it on Friday night and then wore it to school yesterday afternoon with a meh outfit of just a striped tee and jeans and got complimented. May get a grey one too. I'm converted!

QueenCadbury Tue 24-Sep-13 09:29:36

dry is your skirt similar to that coast one I had? I found it difficult to style and so just wore with black.

LinusDKD Tue 24-Sep-13 09:51:27

dry I like the way they styled it on the Hobbs website with an ivory blouse.
