Parka

Can you help? I'd love a new parka this year. Bum covering. Maybe blue, grey, black or dark green. Ideally at least showerproof and with an actual waist. I see people in ones I like but have scoured the internet and not really happened upon one. Do any of you have such a thing? Thanks

MrsReacher85 Mon 16-Sep-13 20:06:04

I've recently bought this one - m.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_037010150933_-1?m-referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2F

It doesn't look like it has a waist but it has drawstrings you can pull in on the inside.

SprinkleLiberally Mon 16-Sep-13 20:07:48

I do like the look of it. Is it also warm though?

MrsReacher85 Mon 16-Sep-13 20:31:26

I've only worn it a couple of times, I wouldn't say it's amazingly warm but there's room for a decent jumper underneath! Equally though, it's not as cold as some jackets I've had.

Dancealot Mon 16-Sep-13 20:38:41

I bought this one last week and love it! It's very cosy when zipped up to the neck and the hood is lovely. It looks like it will be shower proof but I've yet to wear in the rain.

Miss selfridge

SprinkleLiberally Mon 16-Sep-13 21:29:12

I like that one actually. Would never think to look there. Might give it a go. Thanks.

Imwoodword Mon 16-Sep-13 21:35:12

I bought this and love it.

SprinkleLiberally Mon 16-Sep-13 21:48:05

I do like that! What colour did you get? I could be tempted by the red actually.

bobbyboboo Mon 16-Sep-13 21:58:54

I've just ordered the target dry Georgia in the blue. If you put SCHOOLGATE15 in the code box you get 15% off too.

Am deciding between ones from Poetry/Fat Face/White Stuff at the moment. Around £100 new but there are some on eBay...

Imwoodword Mon 16-Sep-13 22:26:25

I got the blue, I really like it. Forgot about the discount code blush but I think it's a real bargain.

Jemster Tue 17-Sep-13 07:06:36

Imwoodword I like that coat. What's the sizing like? I'm only 5'3 so slightly worried it would be really long on me.

Pufflemum Tue 17-Sep-13 07:25:06

I share your problem. I was going to get the Poetry one but it has sold out already. So I will watch this thread with interest.

Bobbyboboo I have the one from Target Dry, I think it will be a great purchase. Not quite as soft as some other parkas but the pay off for that is being completely waterproof so worth it and the price is amazing.

GobblersKnob Tue 17-Sep-13 09:29:31

I considered this (25% off with code 0747).

But bought this, not been delivered yet though.

Both are cotton, but can be (and mine will be) sprayed with waterproofing spray to make them showerproof.

Imwoodword Tue 17-Sep-13 11:15:08

Jemster it comes to mid thigh (literally!) on the front and the back is slightly lower, so it covers all of my bum and stops about an inch or so above my knee pit. I'm 5'6. If I give it a but of a tug when sitting down it means I'm sitting totally on it rather than a bench or whatever.

Hope that makes sense!

SprinkleLiberally Tue 17-Sep-13 14:58:17

Thanks. Would not have thought of some of these places.

I just bought the target dry one in blue. I am only shirt at 5 foot 2 so it may go back if it swamps me!!

werenotreallyhere Tue 17-Sep-13 15:47:50

I'm loving all the parkas on this thread, I'm looking for one and these are all exactly what I'm looking look. I'm umming and ahhhing between the Miss Selfridge one and the H&M one (I think I just prefer the missS one but H&M a lot cheaper).

werenotreallyhere Tue 17-Sep-13 15:48:47

The other consideration is H&M delivery takes ages and knowing my luck it won't be in store.

Lagoonablue Wed 18-Sep-13 19:36:35
LimeLeaafLizard Wed 18-Sep-13 22:14:47

I love the Target Dry Parka. I'm quite busty though - not sure whether to size up because of that - any thoughts?

SprinkleLiberally Wed 18-Sep-13 22:23:38

I wondered that too. I definitely want more of a nylon finish I think. Like target dry one.

CockBollocks Wed 18-Sep-13 22:30:16

Timberland do some great waterproof coats.

Pricy though, if you remember go on the website January/February time and they really reduce.

I get my boots every year at half price and got a down coat for 75 reduced from £250!!

SparePants Wed 18-Sep-13 22:34:21

I've got the H&M one. It's lovely and cosy but the lining is detachable - 2 for the price of 1!

wrigglebum Wed 18-Sep-13 23:00:47

Ooh, just ordered that Target Dry one, couldn't resist at that price! If it's a keeper I'll be very pleased- it's £160 cheaper than one I was considering the other day!

I ordered a 12 so I hope it doesn't come up too large- I'd like room for a jumper or fleece underneath for really chilly days but I don't want it absolutely massive.

Lighthousekeeping Wed 18-Sep-13 23:07:50

I need a coat for New York in November. Is Timberland cheaper there?

UriGeller Wed 18-Sep-13 23:54:49

Does anyone have this one? I really like it but need to know, Is it warm?
ASOS

Imwoodword Thu 19-Sep-13 08:07:51

Target parka - I'm an 8-10 and got a 10 and its roomy enough for a jumper but not huge. I'm a 32FF and its fine.

Quenelle Thu 19-Sep-13 08:53:08

I love that asos one Uri. I'd like to know how waterproof it is too.

disguiseme Thu 19-Sep-13 11:08:31

Possibly being really dim here but I can't see the code box for putting in the discount code for the target dry coat?

mizu Thu 19-Sep-13 11:18:31

Looking for a parka too, saw a nice (and cheap one) in Sainsbos but that H and M one is the one for me.

ZenWarrierPrincess Thu 19-Sep-13 11:21:28

Uri I recently ordered the ASOS one, but had to return it for an exchange as the fit was really big. I'm a 12 in coats so ordered the S size which says it's 10-12 but it was really big. Coat was lovely and warm, though, with a big hood which actually covered my head! (Sometimes they sit half way). And it had drawstrings in the middle and at the bottom. No idea if waterproof yet as waiting for exchange to arrive but it looked like it would be ok??

zen am v keen on the ASOS one. I'm a 12 on top, and short (5'3") - do you think I should get the XS then?

Disguise me it's on the last page before you checkout, where you enter card details etc, right at the top. Any luck?

Fwiw I'm a 10 sometimes 12 bottom and find the 10 roomy enough to layer but not massive either, and the waist ties are useful.

mumonaptamission Thu 19-Sep-13 16:42:44

Princerogers will you report back when it arrives about how it is for a shorty? I don't want to spend half its value on alterations.

Worried they will sell out soon just on the back of all this MN interest!

UriGeller Thu 19-Sep-13 17:37:24

Aaah, thanks zen you're a star.
I'm a 10-12 but I really like the way it looks oversized. Thanks for letting me know its warm, I'm going to go for it. Bring on the weather! grin

Ordered this one in Navy with 20% off. It's pissing down here so I hope it hurries up
www.whitestuff.com/mobile/woodland-parka-prod406521_navy/

ZenWarrierPrincess Thu 19-Sep-13 18:14:55

Stinking I'm 5'7" the S was big on the shoulders and arms on me - like i was wearing DH's coat. The drawstrings helped a bit but sizing more like a 14. I'm a 10/12 on top with no boobs sad And I generally get coats in a 12 so I can get layers on underneath if needed. The front came down to mid-thigh and a bit longer on the back. It's free delivery and free returns though so it's easy (and free!) to try it on.

ZenWarrierPrincess Thu 19-Sep-13 18:19:29

Uri sure the cold weather will be here very soon! Good luck with the coat smile

ZenWarrierPrincess Thu 19-Sep-13 18:20:43

Sorry for the double posts blush

GobblersKnob Thu 19-Sep-13 18:25:41

I was going to get the asos Monki one, but the fact that it was 100% polyester in and out put me off, too sweaty. I think it is meant to be hugely oversized though, the model is teeny and the coat is ginormous. Very oversized is very in with the kids atm grin

mumtosp Thu 19-Sep-13 20:25:30

I'm also on the hunt for a parka and came across these in Warehouse

http://www.warehouse.co.uk/faux-fur-hooded-button-parka/coats-&-jackets/warehouse/fcp-product/4212990110

http://www.warehouse.co.uk/detachable-faux-fur-parka/coats-&-jackets/warehouse/fcp-product/4212990328

Question: would you wear these to work or get something more formal like a coat... I really don't want to spend on a parka and a coat sad

twinsagogo Thu 19-Sep-13 20:46:35

i've got one of these. not lined or anything but roomy. got a drawstring waist. it's in sale
www.charlotteandco.co.uk/fishtail-parka-with-hood-and-fur-trim

LimeLeaafLizard Thu 19-Sep-13 22:42:11

I decided to go for the Target dry one, thanks to MN. Very satisfying entering the discount code!

SprinkleLiberally Fri 20-Sep-13 06:48:49

That last one looks good actually. Will go to h and m this weekend and if not will order Target Dry or Charlotte one. Target Dry may become ubiquitous. ..

disguiseme Fri 20-Sep-13 09:20:46

Ah thank you I found it! I was clicking on Paypal checkout which bypasses the discount code part.

bunnymother Fri 20-Sep-13 10:24:20

Hmm, anyone seen a down coat that is also waterproof and also looks good? I just bought the Zara down filled one that's £109. Looks good and is down filled. But not waterproof. Do you think I could spray it w waterproof spray? I wish I had bought the Barbour Arctic Down coat last year when it was still down filled. Cynical me does not believe poly can be as warm as down.

I have a North Face which is down filled and waterproof but the lining is poly and not esp warm. Neither does it look particularly good.

CMMM Fri 20-Sep-13 11:25:59

Personally I always size up as I am a cold person and need to be able to fit bulky jumpers under coats. I have just ordered with the discount code so thanks so much for all the tips.

Lighthousekeeping Fri 20-Sep-13 11:40:29

I've just bought the Target one. We will all end up wearing it! grin

spookyskeleton Fri 20-Sep-13 11:52:03

Sparepants - what is the length like on the H&M one? I ordered it a couple of days ago and waiting for it to be delivered. I am 5ft 8 so need a longer coat.

I do like the Target one though and it says it is longer length so I am v tempted.

To whoever asked about work, I just wear one coat for everything smile mainly because I do the school run on the way to work anyway and secondly my coat gets hung up as soon as I get to the office so it really doesn't matter.

OK, I am NOT getting the Target one wink

Choice between the Charlotte one (thanks for the link) and ASOS. Votes? Nice pair of Poetry grey jeans, shearling boots, and me 'Autumn in Cheshire' look is complete grin.

wrigglebum Fri 20-Sep-13 18:00:51

Just got my Target Dry one. Sizing is quite generous but it's not massively padded, so it's good to have room to put extra layers on when it's cold. It's a really nice length on me too (5ft6).

mizu Fri 20-Sep-13 18:43:14

sparepants have you got the H&M one in blue? I have been into our local store and they have only got the green one.

On line they say the blue one is available 21-25 October!!!!!!!!

I want it NOW grin

babster Sat 21-Sep-13 12:26:39

I bought the Target Dry one in Beetroot Red (just to be different). It's more pink than red and has an awful mustard lining. Have just sent it back to exchange for the blue...

Ujjayi Sat 21-Sep-13 12:31:15

Uri and ZenWarriorPrincess - which colour of the Monki parka did you go for?

I ordered it in black but began dithering about the orange being better.....ASOS was sold out so I am now waiting for the orange one to be delivered direct from Monki so I can compare. Agree the sizing is generous but in a good way and the hood is lovely and cosy.

spookyskeleton Sat 21-Sep-13 18:32:46

Babster - aaah have ordered the red parka...don't mind that it is more pink but the lining does sound awful sad hate returning stuff aswell <sigh>

Fairylea Sat 21-Sep-13 18:39:16

I have ordered this one today... m.hm.com/gb/product/08350?article=08350-A#mediaType=FASHION_FRONT

25% off too with discount code on front of website.

It looks nice .. hope it's warm!

I had a green one from boo hoo last year, that was lovely smile

ZenWarrierPrincess Sat 21-Sep-13 20:27:14

Ujjayl I ordered it in Orange first - colour was ok kind of a tan/orange and DH said it suited me but DD said it looked weird on me! I've reordered it in the Khaki in the XS just to be safe. It's coming Monday (have a horrible feeling it's going to be too small...) Good you can compare the colours.

Lighthousekeeping Sat 21-Sep-13 22:54:48

I'm sending the Target one back. The red is a horrible colour and the fitting made my boobs look massive. It might be ok for standing at the busstop on dark mornings but, as well as that, I need something that will take me to the pub or that I won't be ashamed of wearing infront of my friends. So, it's a no from me.

LimeLeaafLizard Sat 21-Sep-13 23:06:46

My Target Dry one arrived - in blue. I like the colour. Overall I'm happy with it. Had a long mental debate with myself this morning about whether to keep it and decided yes.

It feels very light but I wore it this evening and it was quite warm so I guess it will be useful in all but the coldest weather.

I would wear it in front of my friends... on the school run at any rate!

Lighthousekeeping Sat 21-Sep-13 23:09:55

I'm going to New York for the weekend and really wanted to wear it there I just don't think it's the look I'm going for!

werenotreallyhere Sun 22-Sep-13 09:10:39

I decided to go for Target Dry in the end, came yesterday and they sent me a too big size, I checked the paperwork to make sure it wasn't my fault but no, it was their end. Just waiting for them to get back to me on how to return as I don't really think I should have to pay postage. Oh well.....I also saw the H&M one in the store that day in my size and blue, maybe it was a sign and I should have just bought it

LimeLeaafLizard Mon 23-Sep-13 09:59:34

Lighthouse - yes I can see what you mean about New York. It would be fine for a weekend in Cornwall or the Peak District but maybe NY calls for something a bit slicker.

I'm so glad I got the blue one, seeing as several people don't like the red.

spookyskeleton Mon 23-Sep-13 11:50:45

Got my red one today, it is definitely more pink than red hmm Anyway, I like it and it fits well so I am going to keep it. Did everyone else get a bag of Haribo aswell?? grin

My white stuff one arrived. It is fab smile

CheeseAndFriedMushrooms Mon 23-Sep-13 19:59:41

I have the Oasis Issy parka in navy and its fab. Wearing it at the moment without the lining but its quite toasty with the lining on. Sorry cant link as on iPad

Allthingspretty Mon 23-Sep-13 20:17:47

Dorothy perkins have them as do Primark

JohnSnowsTie Mon 23-Sep-13 20:24:06

I'm hoping to get this Fat Face one.

Layl77 Mon 23-Sep-13 20:36:16

I've been looking for one where the fur doesn't look too cheap plastic and is longer. I like asos one but sainsburys one is actually lovely and I usually hate their stuff! Worth a look

ThisIsMeNow Mon 23-Sep-13 20:42:26

Lay, is the sainsburys one in navy? Any idea how much?

bobbyboboo Mon 23-Sep-13 21:32:09

Yes I got the Haribos too with my target dry coat! Very strange!

Imwoodword Mon 23-Sep-13 21:47:28

I also got Haribos, although DS snaffled them away pretty quick.

spookyskeleton Mon 23-Sep-13 22:00:15

i thought the Haribos were a nice, if bizarre, touch! I opened the parcel whilst the DC were at school so the sweets were all mine grin but they were the Tangtastic ones which are not my fave!

northwestendgirls Mon 23-Sep-13 22:12:05

Love the White Stuff one but it's sold out in blue now sadly.

I have included Haribos with eBay parcels sometimes as someone else did it for me and I liked it.

Quenelle Tue 24-Sep-13 12:21:14

I've just bought this Regatta Luna Luv.

The zip's a bit of a bugger to do up but overall I'm really pleased. Just need it to rain now so I can check its waterproof credentials.

UriGeller Tue 24-Sep-13 12:59:31

Ujayyi and zen. My Monki parka arrived today. It's MASSIVE. I knew it would be big because i wanted it to fit a jumper underneath but its too big in the wrong places. Sleeves and shoulder ok but very wide on the hip. I'm 5'3 and normally a 10.

It's also more brown than khaki.

Don't know whether to just return it or size down. Thinking about it.

It is warm and has a nice detachable padded lining. Only cotton outer though, probably not that showerproof.

Lighthousekeeping Wed 25-Sep-13 14:40:43

Target Dry don't exactly make it easy to return things. Going to cost a bomb as well. I won't be using companies I dont know again.

werenotreallyhere Wed 25-Sep-13 17:46:37

It cost me £5.60 to return my coat, but if I had managed to get it flatter it might have been able to pass for a small parcel and be £3.

Lighthousekeeping Wed 25-Sep-13 18:06:41

I tell you, I miss my return labels!

mizu Wed 25-Sep-13 19:49:25

The Sainsburys one is green

I've just forked out having baulked at the price for a few days and bought a Khujo Cille parka from here:
www.zalando.co.uk/catalog/?q=khujo+parka
I'm a size S/10 but the Medium was more comfortable.

CMMM Sat 28-Sep-13 18:09:32

I am a small 8 and got the 10 target dry parka. It's wonderful, love it. Would def size up if you are busty or want to fit chunky jumper underneath. Thanks to all for the recommendation and the 15% off link. I got the beet root red which is actually more pink/cerise than red but really nice nevertheless!

Ujjayi Sat 28-Sep-13 20:44:20

Uri I returned both the orange and the black Monki parkas yesterday. I loved the shape but really don't see how they can even be showerproof if 100% cotton.

The hunt continues!

UriGeller Sat 28-Sep-13 21:55:14

I agree Ujjayi its got to stand up to the weather, ASOS state its showerproof cotton but I'm not completely convinced.

spookyskeleton Mon 30-Sep-13 21:48:15

If anyone is still reading this and wants a parka, I bought one from Dorothy Perkins today which is fab.

Very soft, roomy and comes in 3 colours (dark red, navy and khaki). The H&M one is now going back grin

UriGeller Tue 01-Oct-13 11:12:26

Still reading! I'm going to check the DP out, thanks Spooky

Ollybear Tue 01-Oct-13 13:11:58

I just bought this by Mango.

At £119 its pricier than those in DP, Miss Self & Topshop but I think the quality is a lot better and it just looks smarter so more suitable for me (early 30s). The lining is removable so you effectively get 2 jackets for the price of 1. Without the lining it's perfect for now & spring, with the lining it's super warm for winter. Really pleased with it! I purchased mine from John Lewis so if you're there anyway it might be worth trying it on. Comes in green and navy.

If you're ordering online, I bought the XS and it's a perfect fit for me (UK 6-8). Small might be 10+ and Med might be 12+

Ollybear Tue 01-Oct-13 13:18:55

^ just realised most sizes now out of stock. They had the full size range in both colours when I ordered last week so perhaps it was featured in a magazine or something. Never seen something sell out so quick.
