So my gorgeous friend is treating me to a morning with a personal shopper/stylist. Very exciting - in advance i have been asked to tell her whose style I mind has gone completely blank!

So in the hope of some inspiration....who are your style heroes??

HappyGirlNow Sat 07-Sep-13 08:25:53

Marion Cotillard, Naomi Watts, Olivia Palermo... There are more but I'm having a blank!

buttercrumble Sat 07-Sep-13 08:38:44

Gwen stefani smile

nilbyname Sat 07-Sep-13 08:41:45

Kate Hudson
Kate moss
The Olsen twins
The off duty model look

bunnymother Sat 07-Sep-13 08:42:40

Olivia Palermo, Giovanna Bataglia, Miroslava Duma, Ulyana Sergenko. I wouldn't dress like them exactly (OTT), its nice to see something a bit different. I often like what Sienna Miller wears, too. And I like the blogs of Tiffany Wendel and Wearing It Today for realistic outfits.

bunnymother Sat 07-Sep-13 08:43:59

Oh yes to Naomi Watts and also Gwyneth Paltrow.

Deathbyladybirds Sat 07-Sep-13 08:45:11

Lauren laverne

HappyGirlNow Sat 07-Sep-13 08:45:33

Rachel Weisz, Nicole Ritchie right now, Cate Blanchett can look amazing and Charlize Theron.

nilbyname Sat 07-Sep-13 08:50:27

Yes to Nicole Ritchie.

Also the what I bought today blog

SundaySimmons Sat 07-Sep-13 09:25:18

Carol Vorderman.

Ha ha that made you all go WHOOAAAA!

No not carol. Not Gwen or anyone that tries too hard.

MizK Sat 07-Sep-13 09:40:47

I love Millie Mackintosh, Mollie (from the Saturdays), Lauren Conrad.

All quite simple, unfussy dressers who always look fresh and done.

I also like women who have a definite look and go with it, Rachel Zoe to name one.

AndTwoBits Sat 07-Sep-13 09:46:21

I like alexa Chung. She always gets it right IMO.

nellieloula Sat 07-Sep-13 12:05:23

brilliant - thanks everyone, and a couple of names here that were on my list too; reassuring!

SundaySimmons Sat 07-Sep-13 12:28:54

I like Laura Bailey. She doesn't look like everyone else.

Jennifer Connell and Kate Beckinsale also look effortlessly stylish.

My absolute hates are Aniston, Stefani and all of Towie!

TheYamiOfYawn Sat 07-Sep-13 12:38:12

Tilda Swindon.

AmandaHoldenmigroin Sat 07-Sep-13 13:27:27

Jacqui o, love Charlize Theron and Jessica Abbas off duty looks.

AmandaHoldenmigroin Sat 07-Sep-13 13:28:09

Ha ha that was meant to be Jessica alba - always looks great in her jeans.

superlambanana Sat 07-Sep-13 13:50:53

I'm going to get flamed but I like a lot of what Kate Middleton wears - simple and elegant.

Reese Witherspoon usually looks good too, as does Kate Winslet.

Umlauf Sat 07-Sep-13 14:37:26

Diane Kruger

Ujjayi Sat 07-Sep-13 14:45:14

Another Laura Bailey fan here. Also admire Helena Christiansen, Michelle Williams & Diane Kruger. I live Vivienne Westwood's style too for her individual life's too short attitude towards clothes.

MarshaBrady Sat 07-Sep-13 14:48:10

Diane Kruger and Cate Blanchett.

If I could have any wardrobe from a film it would be Audrey Tautou's in Priceless. Except for the very low cut stuff at the end. It's all gorgeous.

sisterofmercy Sat 07-Sep-13 14:53:14

I don't have their creativity or money but I love to see what Vivienne Westwood wears as she has no fear. I also really like Daphne Guinness who has become more stylish and creative as she has grown older and I assume, more confident. Unlike Westwood, who will wear something horrible to shock and make people think, Guinness tends towards the more beautiful end of art/clothes. Both brilliant.

I'm struggling to think of anyone younger as they seem to be quite boring. Alexa Chung seems to plough her own furrow even if I find her style a bit dull so I admire her for just dressing her own way and letting everyone else catch up. What she wears is at least more attainable for ordinary women on a budget.

Henry Holland is quite a stylish chap and I'm not above nicking ideas from men.

Ah if I won the lottery I'd create a massive mood board and then shop the hell out of it... I've never been able to come up with genius on a budget like a fashion student could.

HappyGirlNow Sat 07-Sep-13 14:53:16

Ah yes Diane Kruger.. She's fab. And Helena Christiansen..

celticclan Sun 08-Sep-13 10:59:56

I love Pippa Middleton's style. She really knows what suits her and always looks very chic in my opinion.

She was slated by Liz Jones for her lack of style which just made her go up even more in my estimation.

HappyGirlNow Sun 08-Sep-13 11:03:46

I just can't stand the Middleton's sorry.. So boring, too old for them with no natural flair and overtly co-ordinated..

mewkins Sun 08-Sep-13 11:43:28

Zooey Deschanel and Katie Holmes. Both do casual very convincingly.

SuperConfused Sun 08-Sep-13 12:19:12

Cate Blanchett, I like zooey Deschanel too. Also Tori Amos from back in the day.

AwkwardSquad Sun 08-Sep-13 13:33:59

Interesting question, I'm struggling a bit too... Patti Smith, Jane Birkin. I like Lauren Laverne's picks in the Observer but wouldn't go quite so far as to say she's my style hero. Tilda Swinton definitely but unimitable. YY to Vivienne Westwood and Daphne Guinness. Helen Mirrin is pretty cool too. I will have to think more on this!

bunnymother Sun 08-Sep-13 15:04:21

Absolutely agree re Daphne Guinness. Nan Kempner was another high fashion original. Both women seem/ed (Nan is dead) to see fashion as an art, and embrace/d the dressing up /dramatic aspect.

PoshPaula Sun 08-Sep-13 15:08:23

Clemence Poesy. She doesn't try and look sexy.

cocolepew Sun 08-Sep-13 15:11:08

Debbie Harry and Doris Day blush

Mominatrix Sun 08-Sep-13 15:17:23

Mine would be:

Oldies: Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn, C.Z. Guest

Current: Jenna Lyons, Giovanna Battaglia, Carine Roitfeld, Emanuelle Alt

SvetlanaKirilenko Sun 08-Sep-13 17:56:28

Charlotte Gainsbourg

Marylou2 Sun 08-Sep-13 18:02:31

Emmanuelle Alt. I love that she could wear any designer at any price but chooses to stick with her timeless signature aesthetic.

LizzieVereker Sun 08-Sep-13 18:09:18

Bit sad, but Audrey in "Rules of Engagement" ( the sitcom not the film). I love everything she wears, and she has curves. I love Olivia Palermo and Kate Moss, but their figures are so boyish, I couldn't carry off their style.

Dawndonnaagain Sun 08-Sep-13 18:11:19

Oh good grief! I'm still in my Annie Hall/Diane Keaton phase and I'm in my mid fifties! grin

CambridgeBlue Sun 08-Sep-13 19:01:49

I love the way a lot of people look/ed eg Debbie Harry, Chrissie Hynde, Audrey Hepburn but their looks wouldn't necessarily suit me. The one person I always think looks lovely and whose style I actually have a chance of pulling off is Jennifer Aniston. I like how she does both casual and full-on red carpet really well and always looks polished but not over the top or too 'done'. I think she knows what suits her and sticks to it which is key to a stylish look - being drop dead gorgeous doesn't hurt either!

AphraBehn Sun 08-Sep-13 19:03:59

Reese Witherspoon for me.

snowynight Sun 08-Sep-13 19:12:01

Julianne Moore - always elegant and absolutely beautiful. 52 and doesn't appear to have had any work done.

SneezySnatcher Sun 08-Sep-13 19:20:09

Another vote for Clemence Poesy - so chic but she never looks like she has tried too hard.

Allthingspretty Sun 08-Sep-13 19:38:28

Helena bonham carter

mignonette Sun 08-Sep-13 19:45:19

Kate Bosworth wears some interesting stuff and loves Rodarte and Doo Ri making her a woman of taste in my eyes.

Kate Moss in her early days. Now she looks a bit raddled and cliched. Too many years trying to be Marianne faithfull IMO.

Arizona Muse- a favourite model.

Arden Wohl- She wears a lot of Margiela.

Taylor Tomasi Hill makes interesting choices but considering the clothes available to her I'd expect her to I guess.

Marion Cotillard makes good red carpet choices.

As does Diane Kruger.

I also like Kathryn Neale and Florence Kane from US Vogue.

FallonColby Sun 08-Sep-13 20:18:21

Jackie Kennedy, her look is timeless and her style can still be adapted to suit today.

santamarianovella Sun 08-Sep-13 20:20:59

love the laid back look of some off duty models, like lily aldridge and alessandra ambrosio,

and of course the french vogue team, emanuelle and geraldine are by far the best dressed vougettes in FW.

60's stuff really. Catherine Deneuve, etc.
Julie Newmar as catwoman.
Occasionally Kirsten Dunst and Sofia Coppola.

Was fond of the Parisian chic thing until I learned that many of the masculine cuts don't suit me (charlotte gainsbourg, emmanuelle alt).

I do like the way Isabel Marant dresses.

EstelleGetty Sun 08-Sep-13 20:35:21

Miuccia Prada - she just gets it so right for me. So intelligent and unusual, but bloody gorgeous too.

Kellylesley Sun 08-Sep-13 20:54:58

Reese Witherspoon and not in real life but the character of Charlotte York in Sex and the City.

IntoTheLight Sun 08-Sep-13 20:55:10

Helena Bonham Carter. Love her.

Carin Roitfield - edgy, effortless and cool

Ujjayi Sun 08-Sep-13 21:15:26

Completely forgot about Clemence Poesy - love her style.

MissBeeHiving: I read an article in the Observer today on Carine Roitfeld. She came across very well but have you ever noticed how ungroomed her eyebrows are?!

HappyGirlNow Sun 08-Sep-13 21:16:41

Ah yes forgot about Roitfield and Alt - love them..

DrSeuss Sun 08-Sep-13 21:28:40

Worzel Gummidge, Waynetta Slob and Helena Bonham Carter.

HappyGirlNow Sun 08-Sep-13 21:31:21

Forgot about Worzel Gummidge too...

santamarianovella Sun 08-Sep-13 21:39:19

OMG! i just googled worzel and waynetta,my eyes!

Carine Roitfeld, Leigh Lezark, Kristen Stewart

nellieloula Sun 08-Sep-13 22:14:19

some great style gurus here...definitely something to aspire to!
(and this is a 'discussion of the day'!)
thanks everyone

saadia Sun 08-Sep-13 22:22:00

I love Keira Knightley's style, so simple and fresh and also Emma Stone's off-duty look.

bluebump Sun 08-Sep-13 22:28:52

I always like what Annie Mac wears, her clothes and jewellery.

williaminajetfighter Sun 08-Sep-13 23:00:12

Michelle Williams definitely. Structured classic dresses with a kind of demure look. Amazing.

Selma Blair. Also v classic.

cardamomginger Sun 08-Sep-13 23:30:20

Stella Tenant, Karlie Kloss, Erin O'Connor, Cate Blanchett.

Ujjayi - I read the same article - like two furry caterpillars grin, but somehow it just works

reggiebean Mon 09-Sep-13 06:47:57

Olivia Palermo 100%. Everything she wears is perfect.

RussiansOnTheSpree Mon 09-Sep-13 08:32:52

Helena Bonham Carter.

OxfordToLondoner Mon 09-Sep-13 09:29:46

I was going to say 'Claudia Winkleman'

but then I found this....

So, Claudia Winkleman c 20010

Meglet Mon 09-Sep-13 10:23:20

Carine Roitfeld. Brow envy envy.
Vivenne Westwood.
The late Isabella Blow, I could never afford or have a reason to dress like she did but she always looked fab.
Kate Moss.

daimbardiva Mon 09-Sep-13 10:41:23

Lauren Laverne, Zoey Deschanel, Chloe Sevigny, Alexa Chung, Laura Bailey

All are chic and elegant, but with their own take on style

daimbardiva Mon 09-Sep-13 10:41:44

Oh, and Erin O'Connor too

cakelover75 Mon 09-Sep-13 10:54:59

Jo Whiley, Lauren Lavern and Daisy Lowe.

higgle Mon 09-Sep-13 11:45:12

Elle McPherson - always out and about in perfectly simple clothes looking great.

MiniTheMinx Mon 09-Sep-13 12:17:49

Caroline Sieber
Helena Bonham Carter
Ulyana Sergenko
Dita von Teese
Frida Kahlo

RaspberrySchnapps Mon 09-Sep-13 12:45:18

My all time style icon is Audrey Hepburn. So simple and chic all the time in anything. perfect.

Daphne Guinness always manages to look amazing and confident no matter how outlandish her outfit, like theatre or performance art. But you couldn't wear it in Wigan (unless you're Lady Gaga).

Had a huge poster of Debbie Harry in my room as a teen, love her style and attitude.

I also like how Chloe Sevigny, Clemence Poesy and Sienna Miller dress. Also Kylie, Helen Mirren and Olivia Palermo. Madonna and Kate Moss too.

Flo56 Mon 09-Sep-13 13:05:48

Patti Smith
Camila Batmanghelidjh
Vivienne Westwood
There are loads of other women who dress beautifully but, to be honest, a lot of them look the same to me.

Oh and Leonard Cohen - because he looks sexier, in his late seventies, than he did in his thirties smile

GrumpyOldHorsewoman Mon 09-Sep-13 20:33:50

Giovanna Battaglia
Emmanuelle Alt
Arizona Muse - ridiculously beautiful
The Olsen Twins
Audrey Tautou
Marion Cotillard
and, a recent addition (especially since her fab new haircut) Giuliana Rancic

bettykt Mon 09-Sep-13 21:38:41

Sofia Coppola, I absolutely love her style, she's a bit safe but knows exactly what suits her.
Ines de la Fressange, classic French dressing at its best.
Those effortlessly stylish Italian women you see on Oxford Street!

SELondonSwede Tue 10-Sep-13 09:24:23

I love the outdoorsy chic look. Princess madeleine of sweden carries this look so well.

noddyholder Tue 10-Sep-13 09:26:00

Kate Moss Helena Christensen Josephine de la Baume

sisterofmercy Tue 10-Sep-13 15:21:31

I also rather like the way Michelle Obama carries herself. I know she's very rich and probably has staff but she's graceful, the clothes are elegant without being fussy and stuffy and they allow her to move so she can do the hugging and the speeches. She also looks great in a posh evening gown.

Deathbyladybirds Wed 11-Sep-13 06:43:47

I heart Michelle Obama.

newmumsuchfun Wed 11-Sep-13 06:49:13

Not as trendy as the others on here - but my style idol is Holly Willoughby. She is curvy like me and always looks feminine and beautiful. Love everything she wears on This Morning.

daimbardiva Wed 11-Sep-13 10:44:41

Actually I have to say I have a soft spot for Holly too - she's not really my style but she dresses really well, and has a great eye for what suits her. And seems like a lovely person too smile
