This A/W must have is a PINK COAT

(49 Posts)

According to the fashion glossies.

In my defence, I only read mags (like Red, Marie-Claire) in August on holiday (I don't have the time or inclination to read them any other time)
So the Sept issues said "If you only buy one thing to update your A/W wardrobe, it has to be a pink coat"

(last year they said brocade and paisley and I was very pleased but saw pretty much none )

As the other trend seems to be plether trim.... I think I'll go down the pink coat route grin

Anyone seen or bought a nice pink coat? What shade?
Baby? Dusky? Barbie?

orangeandemons Thu 29-Aug-13 18:14:38

Hobbs have a nice one. A snip. at about £280.00 am waiting for the M and S one

FunnyLittleFrog Thu 29-Aug-13 18:16:28

Lovely light dusky pink coat in French Connection. I would look DIRE in it.

InMyShreddies Thu 29-Aug-13 19:14:36

There are two Zara ones in Grazia. I'd love one, I suit a bubblegum pink, but they're mostly quite princessy or car-coat-ish and as a SAHM I'd prefer a duffle or peacoat for slobbing around in.

LeoandBoosmum Thu 29-Aug-13 22:38:33

I was going to mention the dusky pink Hobbs' one Orange has already mentioned. I think they may have a 15 or 20% promotion soon.

The only trouble I have with these must-have pieces is that everybody will be wearing them and a pink coat is a very stand-out thing to wear. Also if it is so must-have this year then you won't be able to wear it next year as it will be over by then.

MrsCampbellBlack Fri 30-Aug-13 07:49:12

I suspect there will be lots of these left in the sales. They do look pretty but won't go with lots of other stuff and are very much a one season wonder.

LadyMilfordHaven Fri 30-Aug-13 07:55:11

Never buy winter fashion this early IME.

LadyMilfordHaven Fri 30-Aug-13 07:55:48

Remember that horrendous h and m brocade range?

CatAmongThePigeons Fri 30-Aug-13 08:15:21

I used to have a pink coat, it was lovely but really looked hideous on me, it washed me out completely.

I'll keep hunting for a good winter coat

TheAlphaandtheOmega Fri 30-Aug-13 08:30:50

This is nice but doubt it will be in a store near me anytime soon, also can't see it online.

I have a lovely bright pink winter coat. Bought it in warehouse 2 years ago. I'm kinda disappointed its going to be "in fashion". I liked standing out when everyone else was in black and grey.

Rooners Fri 30-Aug-13 10:12:43

There was a beautiful beautiful pink coat on the M&S Belinda Earl preview. It's nowhere to be seen on their website though.

How frustrating is that?

Toast had a nice one for about £112 in their archive sale too.

VenusRising Fri 30-Aug-13 10:22:27

It's difficult to see how this trend will last.

Pink can look great if you have dark skin, or a tan.

If you're pale skinned, you can look totally washed out, and unless you're thin can look like a pig! I had a pink suit when I was younger, and saw a photo of myself in it recently... Oh dear! I was pale looking and it was porcine.

Also, I think a pink coat will show up the dirt very easily on the cuffs, and anywhere you've sat on anything.

I think I'll stick to my hot pink bag, and have a charcoal or black coat again this year.
Ill have a pink scarf: bright pink, not this dusty coral and pastel pink tone.

Youhaventseenme Fri 30-Aug-13 10:24:54

Denim is on trend this A/W

3hens Fri 30-Aug-13 10:28:24

I rememeber buying a pink coat about 20 years ago. Didn't get much wear out of it. Won't be doing it again.

ENormaSnob Fri 30-Aug-13 13:17:36

Fuck that

Id look like spongebobs mate in a pink coat.

angelinajelly Fri 30-Aug-13 17:39:23

I hope all the pink coats mean that pink vests and tshirts will be findable as well. I've been looking for replacements for old knackered ones for about two years, and proper pastel pink just can't be had anywhere.

Elsiequadrille Fri 30-Aug-13 17:42:41

I think I'll pass.

TheAlphaandtheOmega Fri 30-Aug-13 17:52:38

Yes in my head I can see myself wafting around in the dusky pink M&S coat if it ever appears in the shop or online. But I do know really that

1. It is not a practical colour
2. My lifestyle does not suit that sort of coat
3. It will get filthy very quickly
4. i will probably look like a big pink pig in it and it will not suit me.

frankietwospots Fri 30-Aug-13 17:54:59

I have a hot pink boiled wool car coat from Fenn Wright Manson from last year which will do the job for me, despite Red mag saying 'pink but not hot pink'.

dexter73 Fri 30-Aug-13 19:02:47

Maybe the M&S coat has taken inspiration from Percy Pig!

I was coveting a dusty pink coat in Uniqlo but I'd look like a giant prawn sad. Not a good look.

(Bought a grey coat for my tiny size 6 daughter instead)

InMyShreddies Fri 30-Aug-13 22:02:21

Me too Angelina - I love that bubblegum mid pink, it suits me and isn't often available. I have a longline vest from Mamas and Papas of all places in a lovely mid pink that's on its last legs. A coat is a step too far though.

SundaySimmons Fri 30-Aug-13 22:32:14
JennySense Fri 30-Aug-13 23:03:44

it's not my shade of pink sad

EnormaSnob, ROAR at "Spongebob's mate"

grin

I'm sticking with my navy peacoat. Will buy some pink scarves to wear with it.

SundaySimmons Sat 31-Aug-13 04:46:13

The ghastly Rihanna had a beautiful nina ricci hot pink coat last year but it cost over two grand!

How about this

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Trendy-Candy-Womens-Faux-Fur-Vintage-Warm-Coat-Casual-Party-Jacket-Coat-Tops-/400542885484?pt=UK_Women_s_Coats_Jackets&var=670122823340&hash=item5d4237666c

;) ha ha

Pale pink will look silly on me. I have dark hair and usually have a tan and I wear bright pink lipstick so I think a hot pink coat is the one for me!

AmandaHoldenmigroin Sat 31-Aug-13 05:03:17

yes, a light pink in Zara. very gorgeous.

I don't like the idea of being dictated too my fashion editors, so I'm sticking with black. Eternally chic and I won't forever look so 2013. Fine if the colour suits you, but not one to 'invest' in, IMO.

To by. Sigh.

bunnymother Sat 31-Aug-13 09:40:48

That Hobbs Isla deep raspberry pink coat is gorgeous. A really good buy, I think. And classic. It seems this season's pink coat MUST have is rose to pale pink. Pretty, but not hugely practical and definitely going to look like last tear's trend item IMO.

aoife24 Sat 31-Aug-13 09:44:29

I bought a lovely dusky pink coat from Toast this Spring and hope it will see me through the autumn, but probably not winter. Not often I'm avant la lettre!

foxysocks Sat 31-Aug-13 09:44:35

i won't be investing either. will date horribly.

aftermay Sat 31-Aug-13 13:16:07

That Hobbs one is beautiful and 100% wool too. I wonder if I could justify it. For those who've seen it in the flesh - does the pink have any hint of yellow/peach in it? I'm a HOC winter and it wouldn't work on such a large scale.

orangeandemons Sat 31-Aug-13 13:56:46

If you mean the Hobbs one thatis in store now, it has a very slight warm tone to it. I am a Summer and will consider it, but its is quite pale

aftermay Sat 31-Aug-13 14:04:15

It's the one linked to by jimjamspan. I've tried a link above as well. It seems substantially reduced so I wonder if it's this season's.

bunnymother Sat 31-Aug-13 15:32:21

Jimjamspam bought the deep pink Isla, which is reduced as its old stock. I saw it in store and thought it a proper raspberry. But I might be wrong, as it was a while ago.

Whitecat Sat 31-Aug-13 17:53:04

I've got a dusky pink all wool crombie style coat bought for a bargainous £15 from a charity shop years ago. It brightens my mood on the days I wear it and I love how I feel in it. I don't wear it often but will happily be using for many winters to come.

SundaySimmons Sat 31-Aug-13 23:17:46

I tried on a pink coat today in tk maxx. I looked like a prawn. sad

carlywurly Sun 01-Sep-13 07:21:36

After months of deliberation, i finally gave away a pink coat to a charity shop, earlier this summer. Typical. grin

I might buy another paler one. I found for work, pink was the most versatile colour to go with grey, black, navy and chocolate brown trousers. It works with them all well. I have dark blonde hair, blue eyes and skin that tans easily (no idea what hoc that makes me!) and pale or hot pinks suit me. Nothing dusky or peachy.

Like the Betty Jackson one in the new Marie Claire. Not online yet though.

Pompbear Sun 01-Sep-13 08:35:29

What's a car coat?

BlueJess Sun 01-Sep-13 08:43:10

You've got to love fashion people... Pale pink coats - sooooo practical do these folks not live anywhere that it rains ever?

Think of the mud splatters all the way up the back.

Also anyone who communtes on public transport will need to take a plastic bag to sit down on (tres chic)

I'm sure they'll look gorgeous for about a week, and then they'll either live in your wardrobe or the dry cleaners.

jimjamspam Sun 01-Sep-13 09:52:48

I'm a winter - it's a very deep raspberry pink, almost red - I think it suits me, it is a very lovely coat and a good price I thought

Wearytiger Sun 01-Sep-13 10:39:44

Just bought it jimjamspan on your recommendation! Fingers crossed it looks as nice on as in the pictures! (Online shopping = dangerous)

GirlWithTheDirtyShirt Sun 01-Sep-13 10:45:03

I had a lovely pink coat I hoarded for about 12 years. Needless to say I sent it to the charity about 6 months ago.

I just saw an Oasis one in their A/W Lookbook that's lovely.

jimjamspam Sun 01-Sep-13 13:01:53

Hope you like it weary! Let's hope for some nice cold weather

aftermay Sun 01-Sep-13 14:08:35

OMG I bought it as well. The colour looks quite classic rather than the pale pink trendy shade. I hope it fits and that's one big item I don't need to worry about for the next few years.
