Can we start a BODEN review thread for the AW stuff?

After much excitement at having a load arrive today I am sorely disappointed.

The trousers are TINY. I tried the very skinny jeans and can't even get the 10 to zip up, despite having loads of other size 10s in Boden trousers.

The Roma Ponte trousers are the same- tiny- and the rise is so short it's almost indecent. They feel like surgical stockings.

The peter pan dress is okay though a bit bulky around the middle even in an 8- so size down. Not sure if it's a keeper.

The cable jumper is itchy and shapeless.

The broderie jersey top is very big and makes me look PG due to the high empire line right across the middle of the bust.

So- everything going back and might re-order stuff using 20% off.

foxysocks Thu 25-Jul-13 12:15:43

oh no, how disappointing for you! at least it's all free returns atm.

mine was despatched yesterday but we are away on hols as of tomorrow. hoping it arrives before we leave.

have ordered honeycomb stitch jumper and leopard flats - I'd be interested to hear if anyone has received those already and what they are like.

novelsituation Thu 25-Jul-13 12:20:17

I ordered the Leather Pouch bag in fig, which arrived this morning.

I'm really happy with the size / shape / colour so it's a keeper.

Elliptic5 Thu 25-Jul-13 12:23:23

Ha ha not only me with the super skinny jeans then!
Compared the measurements for the skinny and super skinny and cannot understand why the hip measurement is so much less and the rise less as well. I am going to size up as I like the fabric but suspect the waist will be too big then.
I also got the lightweight boatneck tee which appears to be narrower than the spring one and the off duty sweatshirt which is even bigger than the spring version and the oatmeal is a really strange colour.
Navy Brogues are on a 3 week wait.

BranchingOut Thu 25-Jul-13 12:31:49

Is there a code please?

dufflefluffle Thu 25-Jul-13 12:34:46

Do you not trust their own product review section then??? I think Boden have one of the best online clothes retailer websites and use their product review section in order to know whether to order bigger/smaller/not at all.

missbopeep Thu 25-Jul-13 12:35:54

I was SO disappointed with the super skinny jeans because I've recently lost 2lbs and my Boden summer chinos in a 10 are really comfy!

I was wondering about the urban trousers......

polyhymnia Thu 25-Jul-13 12:36:20

The codes are on the code thread. A995, I think.

Please could anyone who's got the Libby or Hannah dresses let me have feedback on their length? I'm tall (5'9'') and don't want anything very far above the knee.

Btw, last season, you had to size down on the Roma trousers, so perhaps they've over-corrected that this season!

missbopeep Thu 25-Jul-13 12:37:21

duffle- it's nothing to do with trust - it's that the reviews can take 2-3 days to appear and I want to do exchanges asap.
There is usually a feedback thread on MN S&B - so it's nothing against them- you work for them perhaps?

shaggyrogers Thu 25-Jul-13 12:38:13

I've ordered the urban trousers so will let you know how they fit when they arrive, also the honeycomb jumper, porchester skirt and button back jumper.

shaggyrogers Thu 25-Jul-13 13:44:22

Ok stuff has just arrived.
Skinny urban trousers in washed black - fit really well. Seem to be true to size for me. Really like them.

Honey comb jumper in bright red - bright corally red. Fits well and is nice and soft. True to size fit. Another keeper.

Portchester skirt in maroon- - fits true to size. I'm 5'7" and bought regular length which comes just above my knee. Really nice shape.

Everyday button back jumper in geranium - bit boxy. Feels like it will bobble very quickly. Don't like the buttons down the back.

So 3 out of 4 isn't bad!

flowery Thu 25-Jul-13 13:49:18

I have had my leather pouch bag in tan. I love the bag, and bought a red one in the sale, but the tan colour is a little bit bleurgh. It's not a nice tan. Hmm. Not sure. I have some other stuff on its way which iirc is mainly for the DC.

Also want to know about the Libby dress.

scarlet76 Thu 25-Jul-13 15:55:41

2 of my 3 preview orders arrived today. As usual, sizing is a bit all over the place and I can never decide if I am a 6 or 8 in Boden.

Libby dress - I ordered the navy stripe in an 8 petite. The fit was OK but I hated the material, even for winter. Too thick / heavy and didn't seem to sit well. It's going back.
Must have tunic - I ordered the 8 petite and the fit is lovely. Ordered the navy but wasn't really struck on the brown birds and so am exchanging for the fig / pink colour way. Will work well with thick tights and biker boots I feel.
Bird print shirt - I got this in the 6 petite. Nice quirky print which is very me for work. Similar to the spot shirt from the spring range which I have worn to death! Will be excellent tucked into a pencil skirt or slim trousers.
Rainy day mac - I ordered the blue spot in an 8 petite. Could possibly have got the 6 as is roomy but will keep as will want thick sweaters under it in winter. Good petite length and sleeve length. Nice print without being too 'in your face boden' if you know what I mean! Great over jeans for weekends and the school run.
canonbury clutch - I got the bright pink - not quite as bright pink as it appeared on my laptop. Well made although the leather is quite stiff. Adjustable strap and no hideous contrast lining in this colourway - a pet hate of mine!! I will use as a clutch for nights out and also as a day bag across the body.
Elise top. I ordered the 6 and 8 petite in ivory. Not much between the 2 sizes to be honest. I really like this. The collar detail is nice and the sleeves sit well. Great for work with a pencil skirt or for a night out with cigarette pants. I may order another colour way.

A336 gets 15% off with free delivery and returns for anyone wanting to order.
Has anyone ordered the collared breton or the bow front blouse??

polyhymnia Thu 25-Jul-13 16:37:00

Thanks - I did wonder if the Libby material would be too stiff/heavy.

MrsPercyPig Thu 25-Jul-13 16:44:41

I have the Libby dress!

HOWEVER, I'm refusing to try it on because they sent the wrong colour!

It is heavy weight but not formal looking which I was worried about.

flowery Thu 25-Jul-13 16:50:44

Can I ask about the waist on the Libby? I often find Boden waists too high.

missbopeep Thu 25-Jul-13 16:51:06

Oh BTw my order included the Urban Trousers- doh!
I had so much here- 2 boxes and 2 bags worth- that I'd quite forgotten the name of the trousers.

I have returned them. They are okay- but the petite as always are too short in the rise and the legs in the regular are very long. Could have shortened but overall I thought they were very £££ for jeans type trousers. I hope to pick up some jeans etc from Uniqlo for half the price.

scarlet76 Thu 25-Jul-13 17:00:47

I am 5ft nothing and a slim frame. The libby dress in petite was fine on me in terms of proportions, I just didn't like the material. That might just be a personal thing.

Waiting on the heeled brogues which I have high hopes for!!!!!

MrsPercyPig Thu 25-Jul-13 17:51:23

The Libby dress is quite high waisted but not overly high. I'm keeping it.

I'm five foot six and it comes to just above my knee, so it's a good length and not frumpy.

It is quite heavy material so in the winter you would need a jacket rather than a cardigan as obviously the sleeves are thick and might look a bit silly.

polyhymnia Thu 25-Jul-13 18:51:59

Which colourway did you get, percy?

MrsPercyPig Thu 25-Jul-13 19:12:58

Well I ordered the green but they sent navy, I'll keep it as was going to order the navy anyway if the dress itself was nice!

flowery Thu 25-Jul-13 19:36:25

That's helpful thanks MrsPercy.

I do want to know about the green if anyone gets it. On the dummy picture it looks washed out green, and on the pictures with the model it looks bright green, and I'd only want it if it's bright.

MrsMcGregor Thu 25-Jul-13 22:22:35

My order arrived today. Just a couple of jumpers - Printed Button Back in grey with black spots and the Merino Crew in pink. Both are nice and sit well. Fine knits. Not decided yet. Might exchange the pink for green - dunno!

Now thanks to this thread, I've a few more bits in my basket. Skinny Urban Trousers, Libby Dress and Bird print everyday shirt. Have seen a couple of other pieces in the catalogue which I may also order .... just to try on, of course grin.

Oh, and for DTs ... the regular anoraks which are perfect, as usual. Also, a jersey dress each and they're gorgeous.

FabricQueen Thu 25-Jul-13 22:23:31

I impulse bought the Beauvoir Blazer in 14 petite (red coloured one) and it arrived today. It's going back because it's a bit boxy around the shoulders and boobs, the lining feels weird and synthetic.. yet a kind of brushed cotton effect synthetic? Can't quite work it out. Anyway, although the body is a little big, the sleeves with their weird lining are quite tight even with a light summer top underneath. I can foresee sweaty pained arms, with out without jumpers on. I already have a blue Gap blazer that is gorgeous, is a 12 and fits me like a glove, and I feel fabulous in it. This Boden one made me look and feel a bit frumpy so back it goes. Ho hum.

Mine's out for delivery -

Ravello top in black (have this in grey already so hopefully a keeper)
Leopard skinny belt
J crew rip off jumper in red (hopeful)
Grey Roma trousers (not hopeful ^^)

Credit card taken a beating recently so it would be good if half went back to be honest

Silverstar2 Fri 26-Jul-13 08:27:52

Just got my Hayley skirt in fig, my usual size - 18R - and it is FAB. Can't wait to wear in in the autumn with thick tights and knee high chestnut boots <sigh>.

I love their skirts - they fit my rather pear shaped body!

missbopeep Fri 26-Jul-13 13:17:38

I think I am now over Boden.
The button back jumper came today and it's horrid imo. The 8 is big, the fabric is synthetic-y, the buttons make it look like you got dressed in a hurry and got it wrong, and the colour which should be a soft blue is more deep aqua.

My only consolation is that most new reviews give low stars for the same things I sent back.

Thinking about exchanging for the spotty cardi and the printed merino jumper but not sure.

Don't know where I go from here- the only other shops I remotely like are Mint Velvet, Jigsaw and The White Company- and all expensive.

flowery Fri 26-Jul-13 13:57:09

Oh dear. Have just checked to see if there is a review on the Libby dress I ordered yesterday. There is. My fears of a too-high waist seem to be realised, I suspect it will be going straight back as I do not wish to look pregnant...

LadyMilfordHaven Fri 26-Jul-13 13:58:52

i didnt like the button back thing in the summer - neckline too high.

i cant wait for mine - if that pencil skirt is bloody A line...

LadyMilfordHaven Fri 26-Jul-13 13:59:11

the ravello top is the Working Woman's friend

MrsCampbellBlack Fri 26-Jul-13 16:47:55

Button back jumper in grey spot - I really like this. Very j crew.

The j crew tippi alikey jumper in pink - again very nice. Will be very handy for me for autumn under jackets and looks good with jeans.

The stripey cashmere jumper - I didn't want to like this as its £££ but its lovely. Again, looks fab with jeans.

They have definitely paid homage to j crew with their knitwear which for me is a good thing.

My desert boots are out for delivery. In other Boden news, my orange pointed flats arrived from the sale today and are fab, if anyone fancies them!

LadyMilfordHaven Fri 26-Jul-13 17:21:27

iooh ive ordered the pink one too bathy

Gillybobs Fri 26-Jul-13 17:34:08

Still waiting for three pieces of knitwear but got the Mia coat in navy wool, perfect for my apple shape, finishes top thigh and is so flattering. Fabric feels lovely

Also got the Hampstead top in bright green. Love it too, fabulous colour, really great smart casual fabric. It's basically the Ravello top with sleeves. May have to go back for another

shelley72 Fri 26-Jul-13 17:52:59

sorry to gatecrash but johnnie doesn't love me any more sad. I know I've been pregnant since October and therefore only ordered clothes for the dcs but I've had NOT ONE catalogue or code sent to me. Now baby is here was thinking of ordering the edie dress should I find a code, looks like it might be easy to feed in. Has anyone ordered this one?

Orianne Fri 26-Jul-13 17:59:57

I got this today and I love it

LadyMilfordHaven Fri 26-Jul-13 19:55:22

Is it free returns btw?

I want the velvet hoodie and did want a new bag but not leather, the wipe clean jobs- fancy a new a/w nappy bag affair. My one from last year died and I got an exchange but I didn't like the new patterns as much. I do like yours Orianne though.
Am on the hunt for some shoes and hoping for a 30% code as I have spent far too much on clothes recently.

Tippi jumper lovely quality but just didn't suit my boobs. Also felt itchy so would need something under which would add too much bulk. Could just be feeling itchy as it's so warm at the moment though.

Ponte roma trousers thick and stretchy and very comfy, large though. I'm a very apple-y 12 and got the 12 regular and they were too big. Dark grey lovely colour.

Ravello top in black lovely and lower neckline and less puffy sleeves than SS offering, but too big (got 14 as have a 14 from before and fits fine)

Leopard belt nice but far too big (got M)

So all going back.

missbopeep Fri 26-Jul-13 20:23:47

I might re-order the Roma trousers because I realised I'd ordered petite for length but could easily shorten regular ones.

MrsMcGregor Fri 26-Jul-13 22:17:03

Think I'm returning the grey with black spots button back jumper - so fine and not a great shape. The pink merino J Crew-like jumper is lovely and a keeper.

Can I do exchanges on returns but for a completely different item? Does that even make sense?! May as well get 20% off what's now in my basket grin

happyreindeer Fri 26-Jul-13 22:24:12

Glam plimsoll s going back as that kind of heel wears seductively.shame really.

happyreindeer Fri 26-Jul-13 22:25:41

wtf seductively shame? That was meant to say really quickly.

Orianne Fri 26-Jul-13 23:02:35

LadyMilfordHaven, it's not free returns. Very disappointing as I was hoping I would get a free returns label to send back some of the stuff I'd bought in the sale.

Elliptic5 Fri 26-Jul-13 23:18:29

I got a free returns label with my preview order - thought all preview was free returns?

LadyMilfordHaven Sat 27-Jul-13 08:07:39

Oh shit. Me too !

missbopeep Sat 27-Jul-13 09:20:12

MrsMcGregor Yes you can do exchanges and get your 20% off those- sometimes I do exchanges on exchanges, and keep going.....

It's a good idea to hang onto those return labels too and sometimes I put more returns in the bag than when they are delivered, which means I 'save' a free returns label for another time.

missbopeep Sat 27-Jul-13 09:21:57

Just one point- why does everyone keep going on about J Crew? Are they renowned for some type of jumper?
I am not a great lover of stripes- in fact I don't like them- so that counts me out for lots of the ideas here!

missbopeep Sat 27-Jul-13 09:23:10

all preview stuff is free returns- if you didn't get a label ring them up.

oohdaddypig Sat 27-Jul-13 09:26:47

I recently got the size 10 skinny jeans and they are tight on me too. have kept them anyway as ill lose a few pounds surely

MrsCampbellBlack Sat 27-Jul-13 09:37:01

J crew do a style of jumper called the tippi - the shape of the boden one is very very similar.

Also J Crew did a spot jumper last year, again the boden version is very similar.

I love J crew stuff but its generally more £££ than boden and you currently need to order from nap (small selection) or the US. Am looking forward to it opening in the UK this November.

QueenQueenie Sat 27-Jul-13 10:09:53

Which is the "j crew" jumper of which you all speak? Link please!

missbopeep Sat 27-Jul-13 10:22:37

I think they are on about this one.

I'm afraid it's not me- hate stripes and don't like pink. Sorry sad

There's also the stripy merino one but it has short sleeves- for winter???

MrsCampbellBlack Sat 27-Jul-13 10:33:35

boden version

of tippi

The cashmere isn't particularly J Crew but its a nice shape.

Wishingonamoon Sat 27-Jul-13 10:41:54

Is there a 20% code too or just the 15% one?

Laquila Sat 27-Jul-13 10:49:43

Scarlet76 can you please tell me more abut the Rainy Day Mac, please?

Does it feel realistically waterproof, if you know what I mean? Does it feel more trench-coat-like than cagoule-like? I like the look of the plain sage or the plain grey, although the latter might be a bit dull with my colouring.

Does it feel light enough to wear in late summer/early autumn or is it more of a winter raincoat?

Thanks very much in advance!

QueenQueenie Sat 27-Jul-13 10:51:30

Orianne Sat 27-Jul-13 10:52:04

I was wrong. Just been to the post office and it is indeed free returns. Phew!

AlanMoore Sat 27-Jul-13 11:05:31

I'm not a Boden person myself (Hate empire waists, have huge bosom and don't suit prints or brights) but I like the kids stuff and always look for me as I often like some of the shoes - was v tempted by those heeled brogues and will watch this thread to see if anyone rates them.

I got the velvet trim hoody in navy as I've wanted one like my Dd's for ages, it's lovely and just what I wanted. Was worried it'd look bulky but it doesn't, it seems quite generously sized though so if I get another colour next year (wish I'd got the olive green one from last year or year before!) I'd size down. I'm a 32J and got a 14.

missbopeep Sat 27-Jul-13 11:45:06

I can't see anything special about the Boden merino- sorry. Uniqlo do them for half the price.

missbopeep Sat 27-Jul-13 11:47:46

Uniqlo merino

MrsCampbellBlack Sat 27-Jul-13 11:51:44

Well its a different neckline. But to be honest, I like the cut of the tippi and therefore like the boden one.

But, I'm not trying to sell them for Boden, just reviewing my purchases.

shaggyrogers Sat 27-Jul-13 11:52:41

I would second missbopeeps recommendation for Uniqlo merino. They are very good quality and even though they say hand wash, I put mine in the machine on the wool cycle and they come out fine. £20 is a bargain too.

MrsCampbellBlack Sat 27-Jul-13 11:57:04

Interesting you've found the uniqlo merino washed well. I did buy one last year and found it went very shapeless especially round the bottom.

Also meant to say the jumper sizing seems to be a little smaller than before. Or could be that I'm still dealing my holiday weight gain wink

shaggyrogers Sat 27-Jul-13 11:59:27

No problems at all with mine - maybe you had a rogue one!

The stripy cashmere with the pink top looks really lovely - would you recommend going up a size?

MrsCampbellBlack Sat 27-Jul-13 12:03:58

No, that one is sized well. And I did hesitate a lot before ordering as worried it looked too boden. But it is very nice in reality. And I know from the last few winters that I need some pretty colours to wear as get sick to death of constant grey and navy.

The cashmere seems reasonable quality too.

I bet I did get a rogue uniqlo one. I think also because I don't have a shop nearby I just don't look on their site much.

LadyMilfordHaven Sat 27-Jul-13 12:35:59

Agree with grey and navy. Also every winter I need pattern on white or certainly light to lift dark colours

My Uniqlo merino has bobbled like a bitch mrsCB, odd because the cashmere is v good.

I really want that blue Leopard Tippi-alike, but am on a spending ban. Boo.

flowery Sat 27-Jul-13 13:33:20

Blimey that stripey cashmere is expensive, £101 with 15% off!

MrsCampbellBlack Sat 27-Jul-13 13:42:35

Decent cashmere is always expensive though - compared to Brora its positively reasonable wink

Amber - you need to blog some boden stuff and get freebies a la DMBL40

flowery Sat 27-Jul-13 14:20:50

Yes I realise that, but don't think charging £20 more for stripes counts as reasonable.

amessagetoyouYoni Sat 27-Jul-13 14:47:56

I have a couple of things going back - the Ottoman Shift which I bought in black and the mustardy colour. Too heavy and shapeless.

Possibly returning the Lydia dress, too. Nice shape and fit but much more purple than it looks in the pics online - not my colour.

REALLY delighted with the following, though:

The Smart Shift in ' raven falling flower' (where do they get these poncy names from grin) and the Wool Tulip deess in black are both going to be great autumn work dresses for me.

The Smocked Shoulder tunic and Amelie dress both really good casual, weekendy buys and really nice fit on me.

scarlet76 Sat 27-Jul-13 14:50:29

Laquila The outer material of the rainy day jacket feels like a heavy cotton. Definitely feels more trench like than cagoule like. I am dubious as to how waterproof it can be! The main body is fleece lined making it warm. I would say suitable for late autumn or early winter.

Couple more preview items turned up today and sadly both going back. Had high hopes for the heeled brogues but just don't love enoug
h to justify the cost. The inner sole in one of them is not fitted well and is creased.
The retro necklace does nothing for me either so that's going back as well!

LadyMilfordHaven Sat 27-Jul-13 15:31:54

Merino in punk. Nice but SMALL
SKINny urban trouser mumsy
Pendul skirt needs bloody Lycra still. Huge on thighs

LadyMilfordHaven Sat 27-Jul-13 15:33:06

Waffle thing I ordered silver. Disaster it's sludge. Shape lovely though.

LadyMilfordHaven Sat 27-Jul-13 15:34:31

That's the honeycomb one. Not sure if other colours will suit. The Isabel jumper in the pink is lovely. Far more vibrant in rl. Like a cassis colour.

missbopeep Sat 27-Jul-13 16:19:22

Be interested to know about the quality of Boden cashmere. I ordered a jumper in their sale a few months back and it was terrible- very thin. Didn't compare at all to the 3 other Boden cashmeres I have from 3-4 years back.
One of my best cashmere jumpers bought last season was John Lewis- funnel neck, thick and soft and was £75.

scarlet76 Sat 27-Jul-13 17:31:46

Can anyone tell me what the fit of the merino spotty button back jumper is like? I'm a 6-8 in Boden and can never decide.
Also has anyone ordered the green star print bow front blouse. Poor review on the website but I like the look of.

MrsMcGregor Sat 27-Jul-13 17:34:48

Scarlet - I'm a 10 and the 10 was a good enough fit although I sent it back because it wasn't as good a shape as the Tippi-alike merino jumper.

MrsCampbellBlack Sat 27-Jul-13 17:36:19

I suspect that stripey cashmere is more expensive to make than plain colours hence the price increase - but I did get 20% off.

I think the button back jumper is also pretty small size wise.

missbopeep Sat 27-Jul-13 17:39:33

I ordered the button back jumper- not the merino though have done an exchange for that- and found it generous. I had the 8 and had to check it wasn't a 10- seemed very loose and the sleeves had a kind of 'batwing' effect.

emsyj Sat 27-Jul-13 21:27:35

Has anyone bought the Vintage Heeled Boots?? I really want some very very plain knee boots for the winter - I would probably buy the black, although I like the tan too. I'm intrigued by the wider fit option, I have big calves - although Boden knee boots normally fit me fine.

Sophiathesnowfairy Sun 28-Jul-13 07:08:01

I was thinking of the skinny urban trouser in grey and the top with the Peter Pan colour they show on the same page , but not sure if it comes too short in the waist.

Sophiathesnowfairy Sun 28-Jul-13 07:18:21

Ok so they don't do them in grey duh.

LadyBarlow Sun 28-Jul-13 09:25:38

scarlet I've tried the star print blouse, it was awful so dont bother! The fabric was cheap & itchy & it looks like a maternity top.
I'd ordered loads of stuff (am still waiting for 2 things) but have only kept the Libby dress in red which is gorgeous.
The Sophie dress was ok but felt frumpy, the cashmere cropped cardy felt thinner than others I've got & the Audrey jumper was ok but not worth the £

LadyBarlow Sun 28-Jul-13 20:59:39

Final 2 items were delivered yesterday & were at my neighbours! The boulevard tunic dress was incredibly short & I'm only 5ft 4 ! There's no way I could wear it as a dress. Quite nice fabric but again, expensive in my opinion.
I really thought the lace top would be great- but it was shapeless & really poor quality fabric, not impressed at all.
So out of £450 worth of stuff I've kept a dress for £55, thanks Johnny, more to spend elsewhere!

LadyMilfordHaven Sun 28-Jul-13 21:07:32

I fancy that jumper with the lace neck to wear at work with pencil skirts. Anyone got that

mypavlova Mon 29-Jul-13 10:03:04

so disappointed to hear the bad reviews on the bow front blouse. I might try it sized down when another free shipping / return offer occurs, but that was originally a top pick. The concept has charm.

Can anyone review the skinny jeans and ankle skimmer skinny jeans for me? are they closet staples?

I appreciate these reviews because I am in the states and haven't received anything yet, nor does the boden usa site have any a/w reviews up yet.

thestylethatdecadesforgot Mon 29-Jul-13 10:06:55

Has anyone tried the tuilleres top? Sorry if someone's mentioned it and I've missed it. But it looks nice in the preview pics and I think it was in a mustard colour which looked fab online, not sure if I could pull it off but would like to try! Is the cable jumper rubbish? It was paired with that top in orange and looked really nice.

Missbopeep Mon 29-Jul-13 13:04:03

I'm waiting for the ankle skimmer jeans as an exchange. I find it annoying that in the petite range they are not consistent with down sizing: in dresses they just shorten whereas they need to change the waistline and hips.
In jeans they shorten the rise ( ouch) and the legs- I just need shorter legs. So am going with the ankle skimmers in the hope that they are full length on me a small person!

juneau Mon 29-Jul-13 13:49:26

Ponte Trousers - very strange shape - tight on the calf but huge on the bottom/waist and not what I would call skinny (sending back)
Skinny urban trouser - ditto above comment on shape - just too baggy and pear-shaped (sending back)
Sixties mini - very thick material - definitely for winter, but looks nice (keeping purple, sending back black)
Bow-front blouse - looks really nice on, despite slightly crinkly feeling material (keeping)
Marilyn dress - looks nice on, but again very thick material and quite heavy (sending back black and trying grey instead)
Paris blouse - looks nice with jeans (keeping)
Sixties slingbacks - very foxy looking and pretty comfortable too (keeping)
Lois skirt - thick wool is too chunky for me (sending back)

My pink desert boots arrived - I know you've all been desperate for this review - and are fab! Really love them!

Missbopeep Mon 29-Jul-13 16:17:02

May I be so bold as to ask what size you got in the Ponte trousers?
I found them very tight all over compared to last year's.
I am a 28 waist ( and working on losing an inch or so!) and could barely fasten them in a 10P. They were extremely tight in the 'rise' and felt as tight as leggings.

justasecond Mon 29-Jul-13 16:18:22

Hasanyone got the skinny cords? Are they super skinny and tapered or more of a slim leg ?

juneau Mon 29-Jul-13 17:38:57

I got the 10 and usually a 10 is a pretty good fit on me. Boden trousers and skirts are very hit and miss though - sometimes they're okay and other times they have waaaay too much material around the hips/thighs area. And I'm not skinny, I have hips and thighs, so I'm a bit mystified. But there you go!

LadyMilfordHaven Mon 29-Jul-13 18:59:24

the breadwinner skirt - anyone?

chardom Mon 29-Jul-13 19:03:18

I have the printed button back jumper in grey/black spots and it's fab! It's true to size, is a nice fit and a great length and the wool is nice quality. A definite keeper!

CharlotteBronteSaurus Mon 29-Jul-13 19:07:19

juneau how's the fit on the paris blouse? Do you need to size up/down?

I have a fat arse, but small waist, so need tops not to be too voluminous otherwise I look massive.

StringBeanJean Mon 29-Jul-13 19:17:49

Awaiting delivery of the sixties heels in leopard, the Tuileries top in cream, cashmere stripe jumper (high hopes given reviews on this thread!) and the merino crew in pink.

Will report back when it arrives grin

mypavlova Mon 29-Jul-13 19:21:34

I have the breadwinner skirt in navy from SS13. Great work skirt, 4-season versatility. It's understated so mixes and matches well. Ponte fabric is substantial but not bulky, doesn't cling. By comparison I tried the notre dame skirt last fall and found the fabric too bulky for my taste. Fit was true to size.

OverAndAbove Mon 29-Jul-13 19:37:54

I hadn't realised they were doing the breadwinner skirt again; I also have last season's and I love it. Might get the purple one now.

I got the knitted jacket in sandstone, and whist it's never going to set the fashion world alight, it looks like a good staple and I think I'll wear it loads. It's a nice fitted but soft shape, and not a boxy cardigan, which I had worried about.

I also have the Libby dress in green, but as others have said, it's not good on a long body and I do look a tad pregnant in it. I might swap it for the Hannah in dark pink; depends on the exact colour really.

LadyMilfordHaven Mon 29-Jul-13 19:39:01

the black and white patterned one from this seasons is SCREAMING out for a bit of lycra
hence its going back

flowery Mon 29-Jul-13 20:04:42

Libby dress going back, I look pregnant. So frustrating, it's a lovely shape otherwise. Why oh why do they do high waists with full skirts!

Alexa dress I'm keeping. Also high waisted but as its not a full skirt it doesn't matter unless your tummy sticks out. The blue is like in the catalogue, but not as light/bright as it looks on the website, which I would have preferred, but it's still nice.

I'm sending back the tan leather pouch bag as it really is a revolting colour brown, and keeping the less useful but much nicer turquoise version.

Keeping tan ballerinas which are a really nice rich tan.

Coral scoop neck t is neon bright but fine so I'm keeping that.

Blue sixties mini will get worn loads with boots in winter so I'm keeping that too.

Back2Two Mon 29-Jul-13 20:12:17

I bought the Boulevard dress.
Too short and a bit boxy. Quite restrictive for walking as material has no give and it's short.
Lovely quality I thought but I've sent it back.

frankietwospots Mon 29-Jul-13 20:37:54

I got the collared Breton in white with a navy stripe. Not quite the perfect key piece I'd imagined in that it's not as fitted as I'd have liked, but keeping it. The collar is v cute. Am usually a 10 in Boden tops but the 8 is plenty big enough.

polyhymnia Mon 29-Jul-13 23:39:13

overandabove I have the Hannah dress in what you call dark pink and it's a really deep, rich berry/maroon shade - just slightly up the pink rather than the blue end of that spectrum, but not actually pink at all. Luckily for me - as I'm a pink-hater - but I like this.

OverAndAbove Tue 30-Jul-13 07:07:51

Thanks polyhymnia, that's really helpful. I wanted it to be not-blue, so that sounds good. I think this might be a better shape for me too

polyhymnia Tue 30-Jul-13 10:01:35

It (the Hannah) is certainly long enough in the waist for me and I'm 5'9''. The fit's quite flattering, I think.

juneau Tue 30-Jul-13 11:08:10

Charlotte the Paris blouse is very generously cut - I'd size down if I was worried about extra material. It's very lightweight and billowy though - not bulky at all - sort of a silky material that tucks into skirts or trousers very nicely.

Elliptic5 Tue 30-Jul-13 11:23:13

I really fancy a decent shirt with a collar but I hate it when they pull across the bust (and gape). Being big of nork would 'The Shirt' be any good or will I get a problem?

hattymattie Tue 30-Jul-13 11:52:46

Skye jumper is green is gorgeous - big though less enormous than last year. I prefer them slightly large as they always shrink a little being wool. Black straight leg cords perfect (if I don't put on any weight).

AndTwoBits Tue 30-Jul-13 13:19:29

really love the look of the Paris blouse but waiting for a discount

CakeInMyFace Tue 30-Jul-13 13:35:16

Has anyone tried the Marilyn Dress yet? I really like the look of it and have ordered it in pine.

Oh me too Cake , haven't ordered it - can't bring myself to drop £75 on a dress - but noticed it yesterday and REALLY want it. Considering an Ebay drive to fund it. The pine is my favourite colour, but I think the dark blue might suit me better.

cpbp Tue 30-Jul-13 17:05:37

Bought the flat brogues. As I have wide feet, a big mistake as despite buying a size bigger, could not get my hoofs in. Ditto the heeled ankle boots. The boys Parka is fab though for 1O year old ds.

foxysocks Tue 30-Jul-13 17:23:04

Green honeycomb knit is lovely. V soft, great shape for me - slightly boxy but nice fitted and long sleeves, long in body too. Nice neckline. Them it will look great with grey or indigo skinnies, maybe white too if I ever get round to buying some. Also will look good with grey tweed, either miniskirt or wool shorts are on my aw wish list.

Leopard flats - ordered two sizes and the ones that fit I don't like the pattern variation so am going to ask for a switch. Great shape though, and the slightly too small pair are lovely so I hope the sub is as good.

MrsPercyPig Tue 30-Jul-13 17:30:50

You mares!! I have just added the Marilyn dress in line to my basketsmile

CakeInMyFace Tue 30-Jul-13 17:50:29

Excellent percy let me know if you like it when it arrives. Can't wait for mine am hoping it fits!

Amber did you send a pic to bodenof your pink boots? They look fab but I never wear trousers.

Whats your blog? I love a good one wink

GeekInThePink Tue 30-Jul-13 19:03:52

Must have tunic- verdict? I'm a small 10 should I get a 10 or 8?
I can't scroll very well on my phone but was that the dress that gave the pregnant look?
It looks similar to a joules tunic which sadly does that to me!

Don't I did and they reposted it, which was nice! My blog is this one here.

Back2Two Wed 31-Jul-13 07:55:34

I don't usually bother really looking at the Boden catalogue (just sale shop from time to time)

But I just had a quick flick through and it actually looks like a really good season this time. Some nice shoes, lovely merino crew and it's boring but I'll have to have the stripy tunic.

foxysocks Wed 31-Jul-13 09:03:36

what's the cashmere like for quality? is it better than in recent years? you can get a totes different item if you exchange at same discount i think, am tempted by pink cashmere or the mustard yellow sixties mini.

Keztrel Wed 31-Jul-13 09:33:11

I found the cashmere crew neck and Skye jumpers huuuge in my normal size. The everyday button back is meh. But LOVE the printed button back in grey - in my normal size its a little slouchy but in a nice way, its not fitted like on the model but if I sized down it would be too short I think. Keeping it!

Keztrel Wed 31-Jul-13 09:34:43

I found cashmere quality about the same as uniqlo, and uniqlo's is cheaper.

Elliptic5 Wed 31-Jul-13 11:30:29

Anyone with The Shirt with advice on my big nork question? grin

shaggyrogers Wed 31-Jul-13 13:44:35

Just received the Paris blouse as a swap for the Everyday jumper. It's going straight back. Looks like it came straight from Primark, which would be fine if this was reflected in the price. Also the sleeves are about 2" too short. Quite a shockingly bad top considering they are selling it for £59!

LadyMilfordHaven Wed 31-Jul-13 15:59:14

Elliptic I liked the Cambridge shirt last winter. Am a busty 12 but the 12 fitted. Borgen style ;)

This year they didn't do it. I had to get the shirt but size up to a 14

scarlet76 Wed 31-Jul-13 16:51:19

Right - done a big return of preview stuff - libby dress (material too stiff), canonbury clutch (nice but having reflected on it, not sure how often I would use it in shocking pink), heeled brogues (quality not good enough for price and no pink laces!), rainy day mac (again on reflection, not sure how often I would really wear this as only shower proof) and retro necklace (not for me).
I have exchanged the everyday tunic in navy for fig and the colour is much better for me so that's a keeper. I have a burgundy leather biker jacket that looks fab over the top of it in the fig.
I have kept the bird print shirt and the elise top.
Elliptic - I am not blessed in the chest department but I think the shirt is well cut and worth a go!
I have now ordered the skye jumper in blue - off to the Lakes next week glamping so think this might come in handy sooner rather than later. Have also ordered the grey spot merino button back jumper to try.
Am contemplating the roll neck dress in the gold hummingbird print or the Marilyn dress in navy.
I also rather like the flat leopard print boots in the Johnnie B range.

Missbopeep Wed 31-Jul-13 17:12:03

I'd like to know if the Skye jumper is worth it. I ordered it 2 years back and returned as was massive and a bit rough.
Looking at the measurements now it is still big- in an 8 it is 37 inches across but only 21 inches long.
I can cope with roomy but not sloppy.

It's also not cheap - M&S, Uniqlo and maybe JLewis will have cashmere for not much more.

Keztrel Wed 31-Jul-13 17:19:30

Skye jumper is huge and totally out of proportion on me. Just too wide to look good.

Missbopeep Wed 31-Jul-13 17:21:17

Thanks- I won't order.

foxysocks Wed 31-Jul-13 17:30:49

I like those flat leopard boots too scarlet.

Have decided against the cashmere for now, will stick to honeycomb knit and leopard flats. Maybe if it goes a bit cheaper later in the year.

MrsCampbellBlack Wed 31-Jul-13 17:37:38

Did anyone order the boulevard tunic in the dalmation print - I thought it looked lovely on the model.

FrancesFarmer Wed 31-Jul-13 18:02:24

Any thoughts on this tweed dress? Chic or frumpy? I can't decide.

I liked that dress a lot MrsCB but I don't think it would work very well with my F cups. A sack of potatoes isn't any sexier with spots on.

Missbopeep Wed 31-Jul-13 18:12:31

Nice but only in smaller sizes for the check design.

MrsMcGregor Wed 31-Jul-13 19:53:06

I just received the girls dressing gowns - polyester and not half as nice as The White Company which are 100% cotton. Disappointing. Back they go.

Elliptic5 Wed 31-Jul-13 20:22:22

Thanks LMH and scarlet, I think I will order in both 12 and 14.

foxysocks Wed 31-Jul-13 20:42:31

oh yes i had forgotton the dalmation print dress. am sure one of the MNVers ordered it - maybe drywhiteplease? i love it too.

Elliptic5 Fri 02-Aug-13 13:05:54

Can I exchange shoes for a dress and still get 20% preview discount? (and the dress is cheaper).

Missbopeep Fri 02-Aug-13 15:20:49

BTW- has anyone received any exchanges yet? My parka is on its way but it all seems very slow- it's as if exchanges go to the bottom of their to-do list.

foxysocks Fri 02-Aug-13 15:31:17

why can't i find the dalmation dress anymore? it seems to have disappeared.

yes you can elliptic. am almost regretting not doing that for the extra sizes I ordered.

i received my switch this morning missbopeep but they sent it with royal mail which is always loads faster than hermes (who are a pile of poop, ime).

Missbopeep Fri 02-Aug-13 15:45:26

That's odd foxy because I get my Hermes delivery the same or next day and RMail can take almost a week.

Missbopeep Fri 02-Aug-13 15:48:57

I just don't get their exchanges- checked my email just now and some more exchanges are on their way (Hermes) but one item isn't ( is in stock) - all items were sent back at same time but all exchanges come in different packs and at different times.

Elliptic5 Fri 02-Aug-13 16:03:12

foxysocks the dalmatian dress disappeared on my iPad - I had to clear the cookies and then it reappeared confused.

MrsSchadenfreude Sat 03-Aug-13 06:39:19

It's all going back, and Boden should have an extra box on their returns sheet saying "It looks like shit on."

Edie dress - much, much, much too low. I am all for revealing a bit of decolletage, but this reveals nearly all of my bra. If I didn't wear a bra with it, you would be able to see my nipples peeking cheerily out of the front. Possibly do-able with a cami underneath but fuck that.

Empire line top - too tight over the tits - material went a bit "white" straining the lycra over my enormous bosoms, but you could have got another couple of people inside the bottom of it.

Smocked shoulder top - this was "alright" but no more than that, and to be frank, it can go back with its friends, as I was in too much of a rage to want it after the other two.

polyhymnia Sat 03-Aug-13 10:33:32

I agree 100% on the Edie dress. It was just like that on me too - way, way too low. Why should I have to faff around trying to get a cami to look right. Camis are fine for just peeking out under something but not for doing the job the dress itself should be doing!

Smocked shoulder top quite dull but that too was way too low - similar problem to Edie dress.

Back they go.

Have to say the empire line top does seem to fit me OK, though - useful for casual dressing with skinnies.

Missbopeep Sat 03-Aug-13 11:07:16

The Autumn Parka came today- and is going back.

Long list of bad points but mainly it is flared from the waist down, the material is thinnish and the whole coat is long especially at the back. It's quite a rip-off imo even with 20% off.

MrsSchadenfreude Sat 03-Aug-13 13:21:47

Oooh Poly, we are Boden twins! Yes, the smocked shoulder top was also too low. Johnny's models are all of the tit free variety, and his low cut stuff just reveals an expanse of scrawny ribcage on them, which isn't going to frighten the horses, rather than the ample cleavage on those of us who are blessed with tits.

LadyMilfordHaven Sat 03-Aug-13 13:23:11

so in all I kept ONE jumper out of an order of $300

I must stop buying chunky knitwear though when for work i need fine knit, pref cashmere. The plain crew cashmered black cardi I got in marks last year was a GREAT work buy

LadyMilfordHaven Sat 03-Aug-13 13:23:34

( was just saying on other thread the Ravello top is a great work top)

Keztrel Sat 03-Aug-13 17:32:28

The wool bistro crop trousers are luuurvely. Ordered them in my usual size and the black ones were too big on the waist and too tight on the bum, but the spotty grey ones fit perfectly and are gorgeous. Obviously some quality control needed on the sizing but I'm happy!

QueenQueenie Sat 03-Aug-13 17:50:01

yes to the wool bistro trousers. really good. I now have them in 3 colours and am contemplating the check ones. I buy them in long even though I'm not tall so they are much less "cropped".

Keztrel Sat 03-Aug-13 18:00:43

Queen have you found the sizing varies much between pairs? I might try some more if I was just unlucky with the black ones this time. They are not cropped on me, but ankle length, and I'm 5ft5 - thought the regular would be shorter at my height but it works well.

QueenQueenie Sat 03-Aug-13 18:05:09

Not really no. Perhaps I've been lucky as have certainly had that problem in the past with boden stuff.

Missbopeep Sat 03-Aug-13 18:25:04

Keztrel where are you finding the wool bistros- they aren't on the web or in the catalogue as far as I can see.

Missbopeep Sat 03-Aug-13 18:28:00

There are no wool bistro trousers hmm

dexter73 Sat 03-Aug-13 18:44:03

I had a look too but they are all cotton.

Keztrel Sat 03-Aug-13 18:46:10

Google wool bistro trousers and a link will come up

QueenQueenie Sat 03-Aug-13 18:46:42

How extremely wierd. They appear to be hidden. I found them by following a suggestion in the mix and match thingy or whatever it's called. Hope this link works

Missbopeep Sat 03-Aug-13 18:54:44

Checked the catologue and not in there .

I seem to recall seeing them in the preview but decided against them because apart from black I didn't like any other colours.

Keztrel Sat 03-Aug-13 19:14:36

The dark grey ones with little black spots are AMAZING grin

The wool bistro trews are in the workwear section rather than the trousers section of the website. confused

Keztrel Sat 03-Aug-13 22:43:36

I couldn't find them in work wear or the rest of the website earlier. Pretty sure they were in my catalogue though and they def exist cos I has them smile They're more flattering than the cotton bistros were on me.

scarlet76 Sat 03-Aug-13 23:03:04

My exchanges turned up today:

Skye jumper in blue: LOVE it. Am a 6 - 8 in Boden and definitely only need the 6 in this. It is a slouchy fit but not ridiculously so. Great over a shirt, with skinnys and converse for casual weekend look. I'm only 5ft and very slight so jumper perhaps not as short on me as on someone taller which may mean it hangs better??

Bow front star print blouse: dithered between green and ivory and eventually went for the latter. Again, definitely only need the 6 in this. It is a loose style but I like that. Thinking it will be good for nights out with my pleather leggings and heels. Could also tuck into a pencil skirt for work.

Am now waiting on the roll neck dress in gold and marilyn dress in navy.

I like the look of the wool bistro crops - what do you wear on your feet? Can't do bare feet and heels as office freezing.

Black ravello top exchange arrived in smaller size and I'm keeping. It's got a lower neckline and better sleeves than last years offering. Customer service really good too - I sent all of it back and then changed my mind about an exchange, they honoured the preview price and sent out very quickly.

LadyMilfordHaven Sun 04-Aug-13 09:02:31

I had Skye jumper last year. Liked

higgle Sun 04-Aug-13 09:23:36

My Tassel Court shoes ( Black with grey tassels) arrived yesterday. They are realy lovely, though I feel a touch too lovely to be my number one black works shoes for the winter, perhaps I need another pair of shoes for that role grin. They are true to size, not too noarrow for my widish feet and - I hadn't noticed this - have a leather sole. They came with a pretty spotty bag to keep them in and spare heel things.

LadyMilfordHaven Sun 04-Aug-13 09:29:12

I'm coveting the clarks heeled loafers for work. Love a heeled loafer

Elliptic5 Sun 04-Aug-13 10:01:03

higgle I'm sending back my shoes with a leather sole (I hadn't noticed either), I was really worried about wearing them here in Scotland and how often they would need re-soleing.
How do you get on with Boden leather soles?

higgle Sun 04-Aug-13 15:30:09

I don't know - its a long time since I've had any - always worry about slipping on wet concrete. As i'll be wearing these mainly in my carpeted office (which i can park right outside) I think I'll take a chance.

Saw those heeled loafers yesterday Lady and liked.

I have some Boden leather soled shoes and I'm always slipping in them. I'm quite clumsy at the best of times. Keep meaning to get them resoled.

LadyMilfordHaven Sun 04-Aug-13 19:11:41

Yup. Black ones With Remus pencil skirt

LadyMilfordHaven Sun 04-Aug-13 19:12:10

Just stick some normal soles on them ?

LadyMilfordHaven Sun 04-Aug-13 19:17:45

Or these will do for work.

Yes. Like much more than platforms now.

LadyMilfordHaven Sun 04-Aug-13 20:18:35

yes and spikey toes are ossom - very mean girls ;)

lurkingaround Sun 04-Aug-13 20:26:13

Late here, have only read the last page. Any chance of a link to the Clarks heeled loafers? <Lazy> What with my Whistles skirt, Hobbs Simone top, (thanks Remus) alls that I need is a pair of heeled loafers......

higgle Sun 04-Aug-13 20:42:43

I'll be getting these heeled loafers from Duo
for my number one brown work shoes, they do them in black too.

lurkingaround Sun 04-Aug-13 21:05:09

Thanks. I like the patent ones. V nice.

Missbopeep Mon 05-Aug-13 19:34:56

The Spotty button back jumper is nice. Much better fit than the plain one ( it's a different fabric as well.)

Skinny cropped cords/jeans are small- notice a lot of reviews say they are skimpy so mine are going back- the 10 barely fastens and they aren't quite long enough to wear as 'uncropped' ITSWIM!

Elliptic5 Mon 05-Aug-13 20:31:01

Got a couple of exchanges today.
The off duty sweatshirt in a smaller size fitted better but I decided I didn't like the colour (oat).
Super skinny jeans are a really good fit now I've sized up, had a bit of a colour crisis as the grey is so dark I thought they may have sent the black by mistake (as they seemed darker than the ones I sent back) - apparently there is no way of telling which is the grey and which is black without comparing them together confused. Decided I'm probably going senile and will look at them tomorrow in brighter light.

Keztrel Mon 05-Aug-13 20:50:35

Is it wrong that I can't wait till it's cold enough to wear my spotty jumper? Probably smile

Missbopeep Mon 05-Aug-13 23:03:54

Does anyone have the tweed mini in grey or violet- can't decide which to try.

Wish I had ordered the 60s mini- now a 17 week wait for the purple one!

juneau Tue 06-Aug-13 18:07:05

(whispers) I have the purple 60s mini.

Grey Marilyn dress arrived today. I think I'm keeping it. I'm not 100% sure about it, but I do need another winter dress and I think it'll look nice with black tights and some killer stilettos, but it's too hot to try it all on together right now.

jimjamspam Tue 06-Aug-13 18:19:36

I got the ponte skater skirt in black - it's lovely so I've ordered the red too.

Also yet another wrap top - boring I know but they always suit and are good for work

SofaCanary Tue 06-Aug-13 18:25:04

Wasn't impressed with the Audrey jumper, felt a bit cheap to me.

The Tippi-alike is fab, got it in the red which is gorgeous bright and warm, very flattering for my Spring (I think) colouring.

Can anyone describe the pink Tippi like merino jumper to me? As in, what is the pink like? On one of the models it looks more of a darker pink, but bubblegum pink on the ordering page.

Missbopeep Tue 06-Aug-13 20:53:43

What do we think about the cashmere in Pop Pink? I am a neutral girl really ( grey, camel, blues and teals mainly) and gave up pink in my 20s, and now associate it with the elderly- or the really young yummy mummies.
But I have a slight urge to go for a bright pink just for a change.
Is it a bit Mary Berry? I'm dark blondish and pale skin.

polyhymnia Tue 06-Aug-13 22:26:19

Juneau is the grey print on the Marilyn nice? . Was thinking of going for that or the navy and was a bit concerned the grey would be either too big and bold a pattern or - on the other hand - dull.

Also useful if you could say any more on the pros and cons of the Marilyn generally.
