big busted party dress?

Oh mighty style and beauty experts please help me!
I'm a guest at a big family wedding 6 weeks from now and I am having a terrible time finding a dress/ outfit.
It's a later afternoon to evening job, 4 course meal, castle and big banker types. DH is best man.
I have a 52/53 inch bust in a bra (but a size 18 bottom half)and I'm about 5"4. Dark hair and eyes and luminously pale skin.
I was thinking about getting this but it's not available in my size any more sad so I have no idea where to go. I've checked monsoon, evans, everywhere that I can think of that might have something! My total budget including shoes is about £150.
Shoes need to be available in a 6 wide fit/ extra wide fit and wedge heel or flats (I can't wear heels really)
Where can I get something suitable? It's too late for custom made and I have no idea where I can buy something nice in my size!

MrsLettuce Sat 29-Jun-13 18:21:49

How about this?

SorrelForbes Sat 29-Jun-13 18:23:27

Anything you like on Pepperberry?

TallGiraffe Sat 29-Jun-13 18:24:22

Was about to suggest pepper berry, I got 2 great dresses from there this week.

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 18:24:36

Pepperberry's 18 supercurvy is too small on the bust, by a long way! But it's a nice dress!

Ashoething Sat 29-Jun-13 18:24:40

Collectif do lovely vintage style dresses that would be perfect for a wedding. They go up to size 22 but I find the Dolores style very generous in the bust area as it has a good stretch. Sorry I cant do links but if you have a look at FullerfigureFullerbusts blog you will see what I mean!

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 18:32:06

I like the collectif dresses but none of the ones I like are available in a 22!

Ashoething Sat 29-Jun-13 18:36:36

If you like the Dolores then you may be able to get away with a smaller size. I am a 16 on the high street but wear a 14 in the Dolores. As does fullerfigurefullerbust and her boobs are enormous!

Collectif are very good at hunting down stuff too so if you email them they may be able to find a 22 in one of their shops/warehouse?

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 18:51:40

Ashoething- I very much doubt it- I have boobs of doom!
But I've emailed them to double check measurements / stock so maybe....

MrsLettuce Sat 29-Jun-13 18:53:21

Yeah, the Delores really does come up massive, the size I ordered gave my bust measurement as the top end of the size it would fit but it was about 1 1/2 sizes too big when it came. Including the stretch it could even have been 2 sizes too big. It was too long on me (also 5'4"), almost maxi length but don't be put off by that - a seamstress could take it up really easily.

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 18:56:54

oh really? I can't find any size information on their site...

MrsLettuce Sat 29-Jun-13 18:59:25

There's a size chart here. Don't order from them though, they're not in the UK.

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 19:08:43

thanks! According to that the 22 would be about 5 inches too small, so if they come up large they should fit, but doesn't solve the no pattern I like in my size issue.

MrsLettuce Sat 29-Jun-13 19:09:39

Which patterns do you like? I'll try and track you one down.

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 19:13:31

thank you! [ the violet in polka]] and the dolores in red are the ones I really like

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 19:14:32
MrsLettuce Sat 29-Jun-13 19:30:26

I don't think the Violet Polka will have any stretch, unfortunately. this is my favourite of theirs.

Before I go digging, how about separates? this or this, this (with removable braces removed, natch) and this.

Ashoething Sat 29-Jun-13 19:34:03

I love the bouquet print and am waiting for it to go into the sale! I got the hibiscus Dolores which is also lovely-its a dark grey which really makes the red and green flower print pop. Although I don't find it as stretchy as my polka dot or cherry print Dolores so yes I would email them for exact measurements.

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 19:42:23

That's a shame the violet is by far and away my favourite! Not keen on separates. Any, typically, dh does not think the dolores will suit me (and he is usually right, annoyingly!) so back to square one I think!

Ashoething Sat 29-Jun-13 19:51:11

The violet is lovely but far more a day dress to my mind. The Dolores is a real va va voom dress especially with a petticoat. Order one and I bet your dh will change his mindwink

DorisIsWaiting Sat 29-Jun-13 20:33:22

could you ring your original choice company and ask if there have been any returns?

IceAddict Sat 29-Jun-13 20:45:15

Hi I just had a little google for you, have you tried Curvissa they have some nice dresses up to size 32 I think

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 21:16:52

humph found the igigi dress in the right size but £100 more in denmark- no good at that price.
The curvissa dresses are no good at all- either stuff for wearing on the beach or to work or just drab sad
I just really don't think the available patterns/ colours in the dolores are very me really.
I want something demure but striking! Why is this so difficult!

bishboschone Sat 29-Jun-13 21:36:32

Per Una Striped Fit & Flare Belted Dress
Product Code: T623139H. My sister is size 20/22 with huge boobs. She bought this the other day and it was very flattering . Not sure if that is helpful but just thought I'd say. Sorry I can't link from the marks app.

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 21:43:22

thanks bishboschone- not really for me but glad your sister looks great in it!

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 21:53:00

hmmmm could I get an opinion on this?

bishboschone Sat 29-Jun-13 21:58:23

No probs. I love that first one you linked to by the way .

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 22:05:19

I really love it too! couldn't buy it last month as the boiler broke but now it's gone! always the way...
I think the alexon one might be the solution, although I'd have to get shoes in the sales!

thanks iheart!
1-3 Not really me.
4-5 I had consdiered but 4 was too drab and 5 has black and I have a thing about wearing black to weddings
no 6 I really like but I think I would struggle to get a bra to wear with it and I really need one!

cece Sat 29-Jun-13 22:23:46

Personally I love this one Green

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 22:24:33

that last one is too formal I think, but I had looked at it earlier, so you're clearly on the right track!

hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 22:27:12

I saw that one cece- I love the dress and the colour but the colour would never work on me! shame because I agree that that's a really nice dress.

iheartdusty Sat 29-Jun-13 22:28:46
hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 22:31:07

iheart thanks- I thought about that one too- but it is really over budget! I haven't totally ruled it out though!

cece Sat 29-Jun-13 22:44:06
cece Sat 29-Jun-13 22:56:32
hotair Sat 29-Jun-13 23:05:19

I like all of those cece, but I don't think they'll fit- the white rose one has stretch in the fabric but all the ones you linked to have no elastane- an alexon 22 is a bit smaller than my boobs so it has to have elastane to fit. I'd need a 24 in the ones you linked to, and alexon doesn't go up to a 24. The the pretty one is my favourite! Such a gorgeous pattern

cece Sat 29-Jun-13 23:12:54

I feel your pain. I too have big norks.

cece Sun 30-Jun-13 08:28:38
Roshbegosh Sun 30-Jun-13 08:56:06

Stunning suggestions everyone.

hairtwiddler Sun 30-Jun-13 09:22:30

This Polish company does some brilliant stuff for those large of nork. Good prices and much better quality than pepperberry.

hairtwiddler Sun 30-Jun-13 09:23:17

Sorry i'm on iad so links don't work.... Can someone do a linky?

cece Sun 30-Jun-13 09:30:26
hairtwiddler Sun 30-Jun-13 09:34:09

Thanks cece. I've had a few things from there, including the purple long sleeved dress. Too warm for wedding wear that one though.

OrangeLily Sun 30-Jun-13 09:44:53

Wow that Polish co is amazing. What is the quality like and how much does it cost to import?

This is not somewhere I normally shop but M and Co recently seem to have had a make-over and their sizes are very generous I think. Lots of smart wedding type stuff too.

hairtwiddler Sun 30-Jun-13 09:53:59

The quality is really good OrangeLily. Nice range of basics I think with a few styles a bit of the dated side but more hits than misses. I had a wrap top from there recently I had to fix at the seam but I may have put a lot of pressure on it when tying it up!
I've had a few things from bravissimo/pepperberry and imho biubiu is much better quality material and better made.
The postage isn't too bad, prices are cheap enough to make it worthwhile. I haven't had to send anything back yet though.

OrangeLily Sun 30-Jun-13 10:43:12

Excellent. It seems to be much cheaper than pepper berry and looks like a good range of basics.

I generally find pepper berry more of a miss than a hit these days. When it used to just be bravissimo and they started doing a few dresses they were lovely and in fact I still wear those regularly too. The new pepper berry stuff seems a bit cheap and and aimed at an older market too.

Sorry for meandering off dress hunting topic!

hotair Sun 30-Jun-13 12:29:27

The corsage dress is very similar to the mother of the groom outfit so no good.
The polish site is a real find- loads of great stuff! But that gorgeous dress is sold out and there's nothing there in my size! I'm feeling a bit cursed I have to say...
Thanks for everyone's hard work!

noddyholder Sun 30-Jun-13 12:33:13
MrsLettuce Sun 30-Jun-13 13:00:18

The alexon rose print dress you linked to last night was very nice, surely worth a try? M&S have got a few wide fit shoes under 25 pounds that'd work with it.

iheartdusty Sun 30-Jun-13 21:09:37
mooseisabunny Sun 30-Jun-13 21:18:11

I am the same bust as you and the 24 is perfect

MrsLettuce Sun 30-Jun-13 21:28:16

Oh, that's interesting, I;ve heard the hepburn dresses fall smaller than their swing dresses, which have a lower neckline. You might like this.

TeamEdward Sun 30-Jun-13 21:54:05

I really rate the Lady V swing dresses for big boobs!

MrsLettuce Sun 30-Jun-13 22:07:55

THe last dress (which also comes in a hepburn version) with these shoes, and this jacket would be stunning, all together it comes neatly within budget.

il0vepudding Sun 30-Jun-13 22:28:07

I'm a 34H and I'm tight with money. I just stick to Ebay and jersey dresses from charity shops ect, I never wear things with vertical seams under the bust ect. However people have suggested bravissimo for me. I looked online and their stuff wasn't cheap, about £40-£70 for one dress so I was put off, but their stuff was nice and they cater to big breasted women. Their clothes make is called 'pepperberry'. Look them up.

thatisnotanoption Sun 30-Jun-13 22:35:51

When you find your dress, I recommend duo for wider fitting shoes (and boots in winter).

hotair Sun 30-Jun-13 22:40:53

I love the swing dress! I've ordered the first alexon one to come tomorrow and I'm now ordering this which I thought I could wear with these shoes
Mumsnet saves the day- as always...
Do you think I 'll need a petticoat under the swing dress?

MrsLettuce Sun 30-Jun-13 23:37:48

Oh, great choice! Lovely!

A petticoat is always good, love the look they give. One would balance your top half beautifully and make your waist tiny too. But, that said, it's in no way essential, the dresses are lovely without too. If a full on petticoat is too much for your taste, you might like the tara starlet ones, they add body and movement without masses of fullness.

mooseisabunny Tue 02-Jul-13 07:09:52

Beautiful choice Hotair!

I agree with Mrs, you dont need a petticoat but they do look awesome!

hotair Wed 03-Jul-13 18:40:01

I got the petticoat! The dress has arrived and I've started another thread here to get people's opinions on which one makes me look best!
