Would this dress age me prematurely?? (I'm in my 20s...)

Not so keen on the grey. Love the other colors.

mathanxiety Sat 22-Jun-13 17:46:02

It's a bit like a monk or nun outfit. I think it would be very unforgiving if you had even the smallest bulge anywhere. Also think the colour is very drab.

mathanxiety Sat 22-Jun-13 17:46:33

Sorry - that was very negative.

LeoandBoosmum Sat 22-Jun-13 17:49:14

I think you can do better. Sorry.

Glitterkitten24 Sat 22-Jun-13 17:50:45

Hmm I'm not a fan. I generally like a cowl neck, but I don't know if I'm keen on it on a maxi dress.

The brighter colour is slightly better than the grey one.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf Sat 22-Jun-13 17:51:33

I'm 39 and would not wear it for that reason (mussiness) - the sacky shape, the lack of detailing and the afterthoughts for sleeves.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf Sat 22-Jun-13 17:51:51

mumsiness

rockybalboa Sat 22-Jun-13 17:53:59

Not sure about being mumsy but there is nothing nice about it at all, sorry!

TheEarlOf Sat 22-Jun-13 17:54:09

I'm dithering I really am. What it has going for it is that it's the right length... Very rare for a shorty like me!

shazbean Sat 22-Jun-13 17:54:36

I was going to try and be tactful...but I think it's vile, sorry.

BalloonSlayer Sat 22-Jun-13 17:57:36

I am in my late 40s and I think it would look awful on me. But as you are in your 20s I reckon you could get away with it.

valiumredhead Sat 22-Jun-13 18:01:58

I like it.

I like it (28). What you wear with it makes the outfit, ie i would wear a biker jacket/denim jacket, metallic bag and converse. [[ http://tryingyummymummy.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/metallic-cross-body-bags-and-dip-dye.html?m=1 like this]]

try again like this

TheEarlOf Sat 22-Jun-13 18:10:34

Ohh I like the dip-dye effect of that dress

ExcuseTypos Sat 22-Jun-13 18:12:29

I think it's lovely, especially at that price!

Vibbe Sat 22-Jun-13 18:14:04

I'm 30 and I wouldn't wear it. It's the upper half of the dress that isn't good. Sorry.

MummyAbroad Sat 22-Jun-13 18:20:42

The model presumably has a perfect bod underneath it, but even SHE doesnt look good in it. Its not flattering round the waist or hips or boobs or legs or shoulders

TondelayoSchwarzkopf Sat 22-Jun-13 18:21:26

I think your dress is a nicer colour / shape and a more tailored waist Pixie - devil is in the details.

TheEarlOf Sat 22-Jun-13 18:23:24

If I put up a pic of me in it is it possible for me to delete it after?

Yes add to your profile page?

pictish Sat 22-Jun-13 19:17:29

It's just so drab.

KikeriFreedomCastle Sat 22-Jun-13 19:48:58

Possibly yes. Agree also that it doesn't flatter the model.

KinNora Sat 22-Jun-13 19:50:08

Tragically unable to speak as a twenty year old (that ship is a mere dot on the horizon) but I have that dress in blue, it's completely un-mumsy and very flattering, aaaaannnd my sister (size 8, and spectacularly glamorous ) bought it too ( independently - we don't copy each othe ). Have had loads of compliments on it.

<goes off in a huff>

blue is lovely.

put the pic upgrin

KinNora Sat 22-Jun-13 20:48:02

<looks down top to see if I have a 'kick-ass' figure, concludes more like a 'drag-ass' figure>

TheEarlOf Sat 22-Jun-13 21:36:46

Ok, i've put the photo up. I'll take it down at 10ish beacuse I am super paranoid of being found on here <looks shifty>

TheEarlOf Sat 22-Jun-13 21:38:04

I appreciate all comments - even if negative!

sarahandduck Sat 22-Jun-13 21:39:35

I have the grey one and its fab.....I'm 5'2 and it's a perfect length, looks good and I get lots of compliments whenever I wear it. I love it.

cassell Sat 22-Jun-13 21:46:11

I've looked at the pic and while I'm guessing you're slim that dress doesn't do you any favours. It looks a bit like a sack (sorry) and doesn't have any proper shape. I think drawstring waists often look frumpy because they rarely give a nice shape and seem to emphasis any lumps.

TheEarlOf Sat 22-Jun-13 21:51:49

cassell I have a bit of extra padding but I would say I'm normal c. size 10

EleanorFarjeon Sat 22-Jun-13 22:03:58

I think it's for the very tall and very slim only as it's a difficult shape to carry off.

KinNora Sat 22-Jun-13 22:05:33

I think you look really rather elegant in a Grecian way (get me) but it looks like it slightly swamps you.

I'm also wondering if it's more flattering to those of us with substantial frontage.

primallass Sat 22-Jun-13 22:05:38

I love it Earlof.

Sorry no, does nothing for you - baggy & drab

FishCalledWonder Sat 22-Jun-13 22:29:46

Looks like it swamps your lovely slim shape. Sorry, not a fan.

I saw my friend wearing this the other day, with white converse, cropped denim jacket and a couple of big bangles. She looked sooooo good in it.

She is however, very very petite, has amazing black hair and is very pretty.

Herhonesty Sat 22-Jun-13 22:34:45

I think there is a reason it's in the sale. Sorry.

God sorry OP, I dodnt realise you had posted a picture of it. I cant see it, but didnt mean to imply that YOU were not pretty etc!!!! I am sure you are. I just meant that in relation to me (fat and ugly), she looked great.

TheEarlOf Sat 22-Jun-13 22:49:20

Paulapantsdown don't worry! I have taken the picture down hence why it's disappeared! I think I shall sleep on it then try it on again tomorrow and maybe return it. I think there's so much material beacuse I bought an S (it being the only size in the shop - as it's on sale) and S in gap is more a M in other shops hence the excess material

I missed it! Only keep if you think you'll wear it, £20 wasted otherwise and there are lots of other bargain maxis smile

TheEarlOf Sun 23-Jun-13 13:41:38

browneyedpixie I've put it up temporariy while I go to the shop to see if I can find it in another colour (plus I can get an extra 20% off it today)

agh i can't see it?

primallass Sun 23-Jun-13 15:24:28

It's funny that the response has been 'no' because that dress is raved about on other threads in S&B.

TheEarlOf Sun 23-Jun-13 17:52:01

I've put the pic up again, can you see it now?

TheEarlOf Sun 23-Jun-13 17:54:05

primallass I haven't seen it mentioned before on S&B? Is it in a maxi thread?

Annebronte Sun 23-Jun-13 17:56:36

I think it's lovely, but you need the size down.

mirpuppet Sun 23-Jun-13 17:58:52

I think the colour kills it.

It is raved about on other threads -- I think it i sthe gap drapey dress thread.

I tried it and it did nothing for me.

I think it looks good with a denim jacket and accessorised.

Other than that it is a no.

The blue was a much better colour. I tried the blue and the gray.

flipchart Sun 23-Jun-13 18:04:31

The dress doesn't flatter you.
I would save your money and get something that really looks good on you.
Don't buy something just because it is cheap.

FrugalFashionista Sun 23-Jun-13 18:23:40

The dress is an odd hybrid between jogging clothes (the drawstring) and a grecian dress and a nun's habit. The material is not top notch and it shows - it does not drape beautifully. I would definitely return it. OP, you have a great body but I would accessorize this dress with a wimple, rosary and sensible shoes wink

Probably too late, but I just bought that in the orange. It will need some smoothing pants underneath, but TBH I think it suits my rather larger bust much better than the model.

They didn't have any grey in our shop, but it's not a colour I'd choose to wear a long dress in. A bit drab for me.

just seen it now!
I don't love it but I don't hate it. the only bit I'm not sure on its the cowl neck

Chottie Sun 23-Jun-13 20:44:11

Sorry, a no from me. I am sure there is another more flattering dress out there for you.

TheEarlof what did you decide?

Newrowsees Fri 28-Jun-13 23:30:35

I have it in blue and I love it. In fact I'm wearing it tomorrow!

DIddled Fri 28-Jun-13 23:33:21

I tried it on in grey and blue. hmmmm - disappointed it was very floppy and droopy. I usually love gap- and bought a different maxi from there- but this one wasn't great. I am size 12 5 foot 4 and age 42 if it helps.

Ujjayi Fri 28-Jun-13 23:37:54

I tried the dress in blue after seeing rave reviews on here. It looks very mumsy on me and made my size 8-10 figure look chunky. Marginally better when the neckline is pulled off one shoulder rather than cowled but I just felt it was a bit meh tbh.

SnoopyLovesYou Sat 29-Jun-13 01:10:02

I didn't see the photo of you but I actually like the dress. It's cool casual. Grey can be great with an interesting/colourful face. It's a colour I like wearing because it emphasises my eyes. In fact hang on I may have to buy this myself ;-)
