Would you go the 'full trollop'?

Have a wedding coming up, which is exciting for two reasons:

1) friend marrying a gazillionaire, so a rare occasion for me to pretend to be fancy
2) is old school friend, so will be seeing lots of people I haven't seen for many years and certainly not post-children.

So, would you wear the Ghost dress - navy, patterned, perfectly nice, but safe?

Or the Acne dress - pink silk, quite out there - not slutty in a TOWIE way, but will probably require tape to avoid side-boob.

I probably should have seen the light at the words 'side-boob', but WWYD?

MrsLettuce Mon 20-May-13 17:09:03

COuld you link to them?

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 17:10:04

Will try to find pics, hang on.

mirpuppet Mon 20-May-13 17:14:20

no side boob -- you can do stunning without worrying about wardrobe malfunction.

I vote neither without having seen the pictures.

MrsLettuce Mon 20-May-13 17:15:06

'fraid I'm tending that way too but didn't want to be harsh before the fact wink

SofaCanary Mon 20-May-13 17:21:02

I'd be tempted to tart it up but listen to the sensible people not me grin

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 17:21:56

Acne dress

(Looks nicer on a body, I think)

Ghost dress

Can't find a pic of the same pattern though - mine is navy squares, faintly tribally...

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 17:23:32

Goddammit. No trollop??

<sighs>

MrsLettuce Mon 20-May-13 17:23:58

Oooh. The pink one!

Personally I'd go for something like the Ghost dress, but scarlet!
(inner slapper dying to come out...)

EldonAve Mon 20-May-13 17:25:00

Acne

Damnautocorrect Mon 20-May-13 17:25:37

Pink one!

VitoCorleone Mon 20-May-13 17:26:50

The pink one, thats what i would wear anyway

bollockstoit Mon 20-May-13 17:27:36

Definitely the pink one

EldritchCleavage Mon 20-May-13 17:28:54

Acne, but only if you genuinely feel comfortable in it and won't spend the day yanking it because of side-boob anxiety.

I vote pink! The ghost one looks like a natwest uniform.

Awks Mon 20-May-13 17:30:16

Pink one's lovely

tribpot Mon 20-May-13 17:30:33

The colour of the pink dress is lovely, but I'm trying to visualise the potential for side-boobage. Are those long flappy bits entirely open to public view? Surely not!

Onesleeptillwembley Mon 20-May-13 17:30:39

the pink one looks a bit 'sack' - y, would need to see it on. The other isn't a 'function' dress, but I really like it for other things, very reasonable price, as well.

noddyholder Mon 20-May-13 17:31:10

Love the acne one but would have to be in great shape to wear that!

turkeyboots Mon 20-May-13 17:32:12

Pink one.

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 17:32:54

Yaaay!

I have no mind of my own, so I genuinely am just going to do whatever MN tells me.

So... next question. Has anyone ever forayed into the world of the <shudder> stick on bra? Or does anyone have any sage advice on that front. They aren't huge but I can't go braless.

Bringbring Mon 20-May-13 17:33:54

Pink one (with nude vest underneath?)

The place for a nip slip is not at a wedding.

YoniMontana Mon 20-May-13 17:34:33

Pink one!

Annianni Mon 20-May-13 17:34:42

Acne dress.

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 17:34:49

Yes noddy. Plan to 5 2 like a maniac to shed the last bits of baby weight. It's a good incentive, seeing everyone who ever knew you when you were 19 and lithe...

tribpot Mon 20-May-13 17:34:55

Dont go stick on bra, go daisies! They are stickers for your nips.

Should side boob occur least it will look decent. Of going to flash then you might as well flash the boob then a bra grin

<classy>

santamarianovella Mon 20-May-13 17:36:59

I like the acne dress,u can buy the Nu bra sticky cups for any side boobs,
I'm in a similar place as you have a wedding in July, and although I bought a dress ,I still am debating between proper, and a bit edgey,

MrsLettuce Mon 20-May-13 17:38:00

Ah, right. The wearer of that dress does need to be very slim and (more importantly) toned. TBH needing to wear a bra is probably an indication that you shouldn't be wearing it anyomre. Sorry. strictly for the ballerina boobed, I'd say.

Manchesterhistorygirl Mon 20-May-13 17:38:36

Neither, but I do like the Vivienne Westwood anglomania that cam up on the pink dress.

noddyholder Mon 20-May-13 17:40:10

For that dress you need perfect small boobs no bras or stickers would look right PLUS a tan not fake grin

TSSDNCOP Mon 20-May-13 17:42:19

If I had to chose I'd pick the pink one.

But honestly I would go shopping.

mirpuppet Mon 20-May-13 17:42:47

Keep on looking -- deep down you know Acne dress is not right.

noddyholder Mon 20-May-13 17:44:28

I have to agree neither are right the pink is a bit nightclub

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 17:44:47

They are small. But I don't think I could cope with them floating free.

Weirdly, the dress is actually quite kind - obviously arms and legs need to be toned, but is very forgiving on the tummy and arse. It is the magic dress that makes you look thinner than you are due to volume. It shows a lot less leg on me than on the Triffid-style model.

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 17:45:17

Dammit.

I would not think the pink one very suitable for a wedding, certainly not in church, too revealing. It's nice, just not appropriate.

Onesleeptillwembley Mon 20-May-13 17:46:46

Oh Dear!! Now I've seen the pink one on it's bloody awful! Looks like something a teenager would wear, ans it probably still wouldn't look good. You'd regret it if you did, especially at a 'posh' wedding.

Chandon Mon 20-May-13 17:47:37

The Acne dress is not right, as it will make you feel self conscious.

You cannot enjoy a party when you have to worry about bits popping out.

Especially if things get lively, you have a few drinks, you dance, and sticky tape may get undone as you sweat, or hug people...

You will ooze selfconsciousness, which will ruin the look.

The other dress is too boring. Do you have time to ebaby for something a bit more exciting?

whosshe Mon 20-May-13 17:48:19

I'm not into either of them, but I do love tha pink colour of the acne dress.

Do you already own these dresses, or is a purchase on the cards? In which case this whisles one is the same pick but less chance of side boob.

http://www.whistles.co.uk/fcp/product/whistles//gloria-lace-dress/903000059663

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 17:50:08

I think I just want a reason to wear the sodding pink one. Can't to the hen as she has specified black dresses.

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 17:50:42

AND I was just outbid on the Charlotte Olympia heels I was waiting for on eBay.

Curses.

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Mon 20-May-13 17:51:40

I like the colour of the pink one but the cut of the other one.

That's really unhelpful, isn't it? grin

I don't think the pink one is the right shape for a posh wedding. It's just too casual.

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 17:52:22

Oh oh i loooove the Whistles dress. Except maybe not pink (contrary, me?)

But I have no money.

MrsLettuce Mon 20-May-13 17:53:40
MrsLettuce Mon 20-May-13 17:54:07

MrsSpagBol Mon 20-May-13 17:55:30

possibly? probably the wrong shape

MrsLettuce Mon 20-May-13 17:57:05
noddyholder Mon 20-May-13 17:58:19

Are you expecting amazing weather?

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 18:06:45

I do have a nice DVF that they won't have seen. It's just, you know, I've worn it.

Sound of toys being thrown from pram.

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 18:08:04

Well, is in June. But I suppose that's no guarantee. Is in London, so probably mostly indoors. although stupidly, I have no idea if it's in a church. Must check.

Fillyjonk75 Mon 20-May-13 18:08:40

I wouldn't go for either. The Ghost dress looks like a work dress and the pink one looks an odd unflattering shape and weirdly loose at the top. I'd go for something that fits properly and is a fresher style, like the skater type or tea dress.

skater

Regular shape but funky pattern

apatchylass Mon 20-May-13 18:12:24

Love the pink dress. Can't you wear something really fantastic underneath that solves the boob problem - like one of those camisole bras that should be on show anyway?

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 18:13:16

No, no, I assure you it is flattering. Slutty and inappropriate for a wedding, but flattering.

Thanks - will have a look at links. Although now pining for the Whistles dress...

MrsLettuce Mon 20-May-13 18:13:36

I'd flog the ACNE dress (dress agency or ebay) while it's still got money left in it and buy something new with the cash.

Just looking at the skater dress and saw this SURELY THIS IS NOT A THING

Onesleeptillwembley Mon 20-May-13 18:16:16

The back of the ACNE (unfortunate name) looks like a pink version of the outfits the girls with Dexys Midnight Runners.

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 18:17:18

If anyone can suggest a demure camisole/underwear type solution to the pink dress, I will be their devoted servant. I love it so, but regretfully do agree with the mass that it is not, in its current state, wedding-appropriate.

Is not church wedding, I discover. All inside one venue.

topsi Mon 20-May-13 18:18:42

pink one!

Fillyjonk75 Mon 20-May-13 18:29:36

Ha, I'd avoid the ankle socks unless I had twiglet legs like the model. If I wore them I'd look like I'd been throwing the hammer outside the church.

MrsLettuce Mon 20-May-13 18:30:43

Well, maybe you could put a slim fitting, under the knee length, pencil shaped, grey, strapless, tube dress under it. maybe

MrsCampbellBlack Mon 20-May-13 18:34:37

I reckon for a London non-church wedding to a gazillionaire, the pink dress is fine! I bet there will be loads of boobs on display.

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 18:37:16

Maybe if I wore it with the socks, it would appear more demure...

MrsLettuce Mon 20-May-13 18:39:43

Surely depends if it's old money or new though MrsCB? Or not anymore?

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 18:41:15

Would something like this work, do we think?

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 18:41:37

Oh, it's definitely new money...

MrsCampbellBlack Mon 20-May-13 18:42:14

Its not church, it'll be fine. Old money, new money - who cares?

MrsCampbellBlack Mon 20-May-13 18:43:24

Don't do a camisole - will ruin the dress. If you wear it, you have to wear with confidence. Use tit tape if necessary.

But I don't think its trollopy anyway. Its acne, its therefore directional surely wink

buttercrumble Mon 20-May-13 18:43:31

Pink

HauntedArmchairOfDoom Mon 20-May-13 18:43:38

If you can absolutely DEFINITELY get away with it, the Acne one, hands down.

Ashoething Mon 20-May-13 18:44:57

They are both horrible-sorry. But the pink one edges it if you are-under 30,a size 8 and 6ft tall?

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 18:48:20

Oh yes. And I am also Giselle. Forgot to mention that wink

Feel a bit mean now. Not vulgar new money. But still new, if am being honest...

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 18:50:44

Thanks MrsCB. Just mentioned it to DH, who is pretty conservative and he was surprised it was considered slutty. Does show a lot less flesh on me than model. But I cannot risk boob exposure. Is just not my bag...

HauntedArmchairOfDoom Mon 20-May-13 18:51:20

I saw a wedding party in a vast Cathedral the other day. The guests wandered around the sunlit 1,000 year old cloister.

Several of the young women wore:

short tutu-style skirts
corsets type tops
oodles of fake tan
stripper heels
hair extensions

grin

I'm not an old gimmer or anything much but honestly, I was fairly taken aback that apparently they were unable to distinguish between a wedding in a cathedral and Sugar Hut

BigBlockSingsong Mon 20-May-13 18:53:26

Those dresses look lovely and will no doubt look lovely on you, but....

if the pink dress is really that revealing it may smack of trying to 'steal the limelight', it looks quite short aswell, hmmm just something that occurred to me plus any wardrobe malfunctions.

maybe its more party than wedding if you get me.

NoGoatsToe Mon 20-May-13 19:03:49

Ignore them all - if you love it, and your DH didn't faint or laugh when he saw you in it - then just do it. Just get a nude coloured strapless bra from M&S. I think it is a beautiful dress that would look fab toughened up with high, gladiator style, killer heels.

StickyProblem Mon 20-May-13 19:09:37

I love the pink one, I agree with NoGoatsToe about the heels. Could you put a jacket over it for the formal bit and then whip the jacket off for the dancing?

gindrinker Mon 20-May-13 19:22:50

Love it, just not sure for a wedding. What are you planning to wear shoe wise?
How about a Vivienne Westwood dress? Same drapey idea but a bit less side boob?

AnnoyedAtWork Mon 20-May-13 19:27:04

The acne dress. The other one looks like you are going to work!

But wear a jacket or nice cardigan with the acne one.

I think bare shoulders at weddings are a no, except at beach weddings or if you are the bride!

gindrinker Mon 20-May-13 19:28:55

I like this:http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=271198941338&index=14&nav=SEARCH&nid=68322518877

piprabbit Mon 20-May-13 19:29:09

If you are keen to get a 'special' bra, you could do worse than look at www.fashionforms.com (I think places like ASOS stock too), they do various strapless/backless/stick on options especially if you are neat of boob.

gindrinker Mon 20-May-13 19:29:26

Gah link fail:http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=271198941338&index=14&nav=SEARCH&nid=68322518877

Badvoc Mon 20-May-13 19:31:46

Pink one looks shapeless to me.
The ghost one is classy and sexy.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie Mon 20-May-13 19:40:04

I don't like the Ghost number at all...maybe in your print it's much better...the pink one is gorgeous.

ProjectGainsborough Mon 20-May-13 19:42:36

Pink dress - have some black Rupert Sanderson peep toes with bow. High but fairly demure.

Ghost dress (I feel a bit sorry for the poor old Ghost dress) - dunno. Was thinking something more out there to jujj it up.

willowstar Mon 20-May-13 19:46:10

Really can't see the problem with the pink one...if I could I would definitely wear it to a wedding. Go for it but agree you have to wear it with confidence. Give it a good trial run with wild dancing in your living room, see how it goes

beachyhead Mon 20-May-13 19:50:01

I would wear a nude bra and a nude boob tube underneath. Then it could all flop about anywhere and you would be safe (.) (.)

finlaysmum12 Mon 20-May-13 22:14:29

pink one, everyone else will be in versions of the blue one.

BandersnatchCummerbund Mon 20-May-13 22:20:33

Pink one, definitely, although what kind of bracket are you in for height and dress size? If not too tall and pretty slim, I think it'd be fine. If you're on the tall and/or heavier side, maybe best not for a wedding - you don't want toooo much on display.

I love the pink one and would definitely wear it.

Nehru Mon 20-May-13 22:34:55

how hot is it expected to be at this wedding? you will freeze

PenelopePipPop Mon 20-May-13 23:08:44

"how hot is it expected to be at this wedding? you will freeze"

I agree. I love the pink dress, think it is absolutely wedding appropriate unless it is either phenomenally badly designed which I am sure it isn't or you have secret 38GG bazongas you haven't mentioned and you flash the father of the bride as he walks down the aisle.

BUT even in inside in June you risk being cold if you haven't got some kind of back-up wrap 'cos that thing looks breezy. And that means dealing with one of those piffling pieces of fabric you can lose or trying to find a jacket you can wear over the top (you can't).

The sexiest look in a dress like that is always to borrow DH's tux jacket when you begin to get cold. But that may leave him feeling aggrieved. Best to negotiate first.

Lucylloyd13 Tue 21-May-13 07:46:18

It depends upon your figure. If you can carry off the pink one, go for it, the ghost dress is the safe choice.

Nehru Tue 21-May-13 07:55:02

Presume all weddings are at a temperature of 18 degrees.
You need sleeves.

Nehru Tue 21-May-13 07:55:30

IMO a dress without wraps Etc looks far more chic

noddyholder Tue 21-May-13 08:12:04

I agree always look messy and detract fronpm cut. ESP strapless

50ShadesOfMaybe Tue 21-May-13 10:10:16

Pink one. I had one a bit like it years ago (without asymetric hem) and wore it loads. Just choose underwear carefully, e.g. nude, strapless bra.

The other one is quite dull.

BanoffeeSplitz Tue 21-May-13 11:30:13

I would go for the ACNE dress - but that's because it's a shape that I would wear anyway (either with sleeves or a sleeved top under) so I would feel most comfortable in it. I'd feel awkward & matronly in the other one.

You don't want to feel self-conscious about sideboob though - if a camisole then how about a the Airism ones from Uniqlo - supposedly they are really nudey and lightweight. They have some ballerina in their advertising for them which makes me think they may be good fit for the dress smile.

Really fine stretchy camisole, like a very refined dancers leotard would go with the look. Nude may look too much you are trying for it to be invisible (like the nude mesh inserts in ballroom dancing dresses) so a delicate shell pink, oyster or contrasting but v pale colour might work.

BanoffeeSplitz Tue 21-May-13 11:33:04

Oh - the back of the ACNE dress is beautiful - but would look best with nothing underneath, or a racer-back camisole (do such things exist?).

Doesn't have to be hidden, but a normal spaghetti strap one might look a bit mad.
