Ready and waiting for when volume 8 is full. Lurkers and newbies welcome - come join the fashion and beauty chat.

EarlyInTheMorning Fri 26-Apr-13 13:20:32

Hello. What is this thread for?

shopafrolic Fri 26-Apr-13 13:27:16

Hi. There is an ongoing thread MN Vogue where we all talk fashion and beauty. Current edition is here vol 8
This is a continuation of that thread. Feel free to join smile

QueenCadbury Fri 26-Apr-13 13:37:36

Oh please can more lurkers join. I get a bit unnerved about the amount of people who know what's in our wardrobes and see our drunken wish lists grin

MarshaBrady Fri 26-Apr-13 13:38:35

Brilliant thanks Shop, love a fresh new edition.

EarlyInTheMorning Fri 26-Apr-13 13:40:52

I would join in except I know you'll kick me out when I tell you I'm lusting after these: www.spartoo.co.uk/Swedish-hasbeens-TENNIS-WEDGE-x120180.php

Hopefully Fri 26-Apr-13 13:44:12

Ok, I'm moving over to new edition. But please all note my pitiful last post - I have NO FLAT SHOES that aren't winter boots or flip flops. How is this possible? I'm thinking as a minimum I need:
1. slipper flats/other plain flat (ballet pump equivalent, but ballet pumps look shit on me)
2. sneakers/trainers
3. Some sandals that have more than 0.5mm of sole left before my feet are touching the actual road when I wear them

MarshaBrady Fri 26-Apr-13 13:46:31

Early those hybrid tennis wedges are so out there you have to stay grin.

Hopefully yes you do. Which first?

EarlyInTheMorning Fri 26-Apr-13 13:47:35

Don't encourage me Marsha...grin

Hopefully Fri 26-Apr-13 13:50:35

Early WTF would you wear them with?

EarlyInTheMorning Fri 26-Apr-13 13:51:19

Cropped navy chinos. How about that?

Hopefully Fri 26-Apr-13 13:52:20

Well they are very... ermm.... directional grin

Hopefully Fri 26-Apr-13 13:52:50

Marsha whichever I come across first in London tomorrow!

Hopefully Fri 26-Apr-13 13:53:41

I quite fancy some NBs like Amber but worry that as I am less cool than her I will just look like I got lost on the way to the gym...

EarlyInTheMorning Fri 26-Apr-13 13:58:55

Lovely sandals in Massimo Dutti

libertychick Fri 26-Apr-13 14:22:51

Hopefully I am so not cool but I have the NB trainers too and got TWO compliments on them today at work (dress down day) from under 25 year old whippersnappers! V chuffed. When you are in London you will notice that no one seems to be wearing 'proper' shoes - it's all converse, Vans and retro addidas, NB's, nikes etc.

Hopefully Fri 26-Apr-13 14:27:57

Where do we think I might find the NBs in London that's not going to be too difficult, either in knightsbridge or oxford circus area?

Hopefully Fri 26-Apr-13 14:28:43

Liberty I live in Devon - fashion capital of the UK, it ain't. I have no idea what proper city types are wearing atm! grin.

Annianni Fri 26-Apr-13 14:31:53

Ooh hello...

I can see some hip young thing rocking those Hasbeen's.
I, however, would look like an arse grin

That Jaeger top is lovely QueenC
Stock up with Napisan when you go shopping, just incase.

foxysocks Fri 26-Apr-13 14:33:12

WHY IS EVERYONE HERE BEFORE VOL 8 IS FULL.

it's just marsha and I holding the fort over there, someone come back to stop us buying cowl necks and birkies.

MarshaBrady Fri 26-Apr-13 14:36:15

ah am laughing. Not the cowl neck nooo

QueenCadbury Fri 26-Apr-13 14:38:01

hopefully what the hell do you wear then? I live in my converse. You are deginately cool enough to wear NBs- I can totally see you in a bright pair. I don't know if schuh or office have them but they have loads of other trainers and have a trying on session. As I said earlier in the week I love the adidas gazelles but I seriously looked like I was wearing slippers.

I find shoes really difficult as if you walk for any considerable distance they either fall apart or rub you to death. Even owning 4 pairs of converse I still manage to wear through the soles on a regular basis.

early welcome. Please stay. I want to see the rest of your wardrobe winkgrin

Decameron Fri 26-Apr-13 14:38:12

Hopefully - Zara also have lovely sandals and Atterley Road have nice slipper shoes (Just Ballerinas). I always like Russell and Bromley for sandals if you don't mind spending a bit more, e.g.,these.

Took DD2 to the GP and she screamed blue murder when the doctor came to the waiting room to get her! blush Also can't get DD2 into the bath this week, think she associates the doctor and bath with her hives. She's fine now though.

Shop, jeans are on the way. Hope you all have a lovely day together celebrating.

Sold three pairs of Boden cargos, I went a bit mad buying them. I'm trying to be ruthless and clear out my wardrobe. I find it hard to say goodbye though!

foxysocks Fri 26-Apr-13 14:38:38

i'll add a silk scarf to your order M. special air hostess-stylie.

Decameron Fri 26-Apr-13 14:38:54

Napisan is the business!

QueenCadbury Fri 26-Apr-13 14:39:15

foxy get some birkies!

MarshaBrady Fri 26-Apr-13 14:42:45

haha I'll wear it all at the same time <crazed>

Anni can you link your Whistles sweater again?, I can't remember what it looks like! Sounds nice.

QueenCadbury Fri 26-Apr-13 14:44:49

Ooh had never heard of napisan but just googled it. It seems ocado does it so will get some on my next order!

MarshaBrady Fri 26-Apr-13 14:46:15

It's great, used to use it at school.

Annianni Fri 26-Apr-13 14:52:40

For Marsha it looks a bit beige in the photos but it's lovely irl. Grey, with pink and green neon flecks.

shopafrolic Fri 26-Apr-13 14:54:46

Bloody hell! I go and hang out the washing and do the ironing <domestic goddess> and you lot all go mental! Volume 9 eh? And they said it wouldn't last!
Early you'll fit right in - please stay!
My flat shoes include
1. Birkenstocks
2. Havs
3. A pair of red espadrilles
4. Converse (multiple)
5. French sole ballerinas x2
6. LKB dark nude ballerinas and LKB dark red
7. Snakeskin M&S flats
8. Fat Face (yup I said the FF word!) tan loafers
9. Lace TODS
Napisan is brilliant and in regular use in our leaky nappies house! Watch out though it does bleach colours a bit.
Decam v excited thanks. Poor DD! Glad she's better. DS screams when he sees that yellow nappy cream as he used to get terrible nappy rash and hated me applying it.
I just browsed through the t-shirts on Atterley Road SO DULL - where's the colour? Oh how I miss Style Passport!

MarshaBrady Fri 26-Apr-13 14:57:29

That's lovely Anni can see on close up the neon flecks which I love. Might get that in the sales! If it's still there.

Shop good list. I can only do ballet flats so am so limited in summer. But will get another lot so don't have to wear Whistles snakeskin ones every day.

shopafrolic Fri 26-Apr-13 14:59:09

Oh and some R&B jewelled flats. Decam's post reminded me.
Hopefully all sorts of trainer shops on Oxford St, or Selfridges are bound to stock.

shopafrolic Fri 26-Apr-13 15:01:02

Frugal if you're still lurking thanks for the good wishes and for all your help and support while DH was out of work. thanks

The one day I go barefoot in my flats and I got caught in a massive hail storm. Was utterly soaked, so much so that I had to put fresh clothes on when I got home. My poor toes had wrinkled up like little prunes. Think I'll wait to go without tights for a while now!

shopafrolic Fri 26-Apr-13 15:13:36

Oooooo it's fate. DH gets a job and the Outnet take an extra 30% off a dress I've been thinking about for a long while. Ever since a lovely MNetter mentioned it on a thread ages ago. Can't remember who it was so if it was you who recommended this Levi's dress thanks

santamarianovella Fri 26-Apr-13 15:15:14

You all move too fast!
hopefully,Everybody in London is rocking the trainers look.I'm loving some of the slippers out there but they are just £££ ,I've pinned the Chloe ballerina and hope that DH takes a look at it when he comes home ,it's this: pinterest.com/pin/430023464390124845/ not very practical but I'm obsessed with them!
I wasn't planning on buying any shoes this season but I think I might change my mind,as I feel I'm in a similar place, was happy to wear my gladiator sandals yesterday but today,I feel lost, and don't want to ruin my ballerinas in case it rains.

santamarianovella Fri 26-Apr-13 15:27:55

shop, you should get it,very nice colour and very bargainous!

libertychick Fri 26-Apr-13 15:30:21

Hopefully I found it surprising difficult to find NB's in the shops and bought mine off ASOS. But there are lots of Adidas, puma and nike around - I really want something like these in Office, Foot locker etc. & Other Stories is doing Nike and had a good range in the day I was there if you are planning to hit Regent St.

Very nice shop it's definitely dress fate. If the skirt part wasn't so straight, I'd have one myself but alas, my jelly belly does not look pretty in anything that style sad

libertychick Fri 26-Apr-13 15:35:49

Anni you mentioned a few days ago you would like the Gap bag in navy - do you still want it? Mine is just not working for me....

Hopefully Fri 26-Apr-13 15:36:40

QueenC mostly I wear boots and sweat at the moment! My suede ankle boots have been in heavy use as they aren't too hot, but they have a 2.5" heel.

Thanks for all the shoe suggestions, just getting in car to drive to London but will look properly once we arrive. Xx

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Fri 26-Apr-13 15:40:44

Hi All

I thought I'd jump in on the new thread. I've lurked since the A&W days!

Loving all the shoe talk. I have some NB's and Hasbeen-a-likes (Lotta from Stockholm) and I am not particularly young or cool.

I was hoping for some advice. I am going to an evening reception for a civil partnership. The do is at a hotel. What do you think of the following outfit?

this dress in blue

These sandals

This blazer

I'm 33, 5ft 4 and size 8 with winter colouring btw.

QueenCadbury Fri 26-Apr-13 15:52:41

paris love the simplicity of the outfit and you have my total respect if you can walk in those sandals! Do stay as I'm a newly diagnosed winter so would be great to have your input. Are you on Pinterest.

early hope I haven't scared you off. I was only joking. I'm mrs conservative and normally post the most boring things!

very nice Paris looks very simple and elegant. I'm envy at the sound of your figure as well.

Paris that's an amazing outfit! Fab!

I missed the Whistles delivery sad why couldn't they have just left it behind the plant pot? (I know why) can't wait much longer (stamps foot).
I now have iridescent purple/grey nails ready for tonight....sat at kitchen table and watched a whole episode of The Sewing Bee while they dried....now want o kill myselfgrin.

shopafrolic Fri 26-Apr-13 16:08:50

Welcome Paris love the outfit, very classic and the shoes are amazing, definitely toughen it up a bit. What jewellery will you wear? Will you have a bag?
Would love to see a link to the Hasbeenalikes too!

shopafrolic Fri 26-Apr-13 16:22:50

What about a bright pink clutch Paris?

MarshaBrady Fri 26-Apr-13 17:10:48

Paris welcome, I love that outfit. Really good.

Dry ah really dislike missing deliveries.

Santa the Chloe ones are fab.

Which reminds me I'd like three ballet flats, some from J. Crew too.

MarshaBrady Fri 26-Apr-13 17:27:57

Shop great one on the dress! It's lovely.

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Fri 26-Apr-13 17:45:53

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I love, love love those Chloe shoes Santa, especially the heel.

Thanks also for the positive reviews on my outfit. I don't wear dresses very often. My midriff is squidy so anything fitted at the waist is a no no. That's why I thought a shift would look best.

In terms of bling, I thought I would wear either a solid silver cuff (was my Nana's from the 60's) or a cocktail ring but not both. I really like the one that Amber got but will have to find a cheapo version. I'll put plain studs in my ears and I have quite flashy engagement and wedding rings so usually keep everything else minimal. A pink bag sounds good too. I'll google.

I am on Pinterest. I'll post a link later when I've spring cleaned my boards!

Shop Here is a link to the Hasbeen-alikes. I got them in the seconds sections so were £48 <tight>

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Fri 26-Apr-13 17:47:56

Sorry, the Hasbeen-alikes were £38 in the seconds section!

I like the sandals paris for some reason though, they remind me heavily of the 90's. Could be because they are almost identical in colour to the pair of satin trousers I used to wear at the time wink

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Fri 26-Apr-13 18:14:53

Relive the 90's OneLittle! No silver sadly.

actually quite like the grey and the cobalt ones but not with short top

LeFreakCestChic Fri 26-Apr-13 18:15:57

Vol 9? Fab.

Are you sure that the quilted sweatshirts on Atterley road shop?
Couldn't see it anywhere...

shopafrolic Fri 26-Apr-13 18:20:30

Oh bugger - sorry LeFreak it's showing as OOS now!
www.atterleyroad.com/coco-quilted-sweat.html

shopafrolic Fri 26-Apr-13 18:22:07

Haha, brilliant paris sadly I don't have the figure for those anymore but if I did, I'd be all over them!

shopafrolic Fri 26-Apr-13 18:23:03

I think I'm too old for the whole Hasbeen thing. I just don't get it. They remind me of Scholl. Look great on you youngsters but not me I think (probably not helped by long legs and big feet!)

Hopefully Fri 26-Apr-13 19:21:16

Shop I don't know how old you are, but I am definitely either too old or too young for hasbeens. They look like granny sandals to me shock <sacrilege>

Hopefully Fri 26-Apr-13 19:22:38

But then I am the woman who doesn't like ballet pumps, so what do I know? grin

Hopefully Did you see my links on the last thread?

I love my Hasbeens.

noviceoftheday Fri 26-Apr-13 19:33:57

Hello Paris, welcome! Love the outfit. The shoes are similar to a pair I have my eye on but dh and I would have to go to a lot more interesting places for me to justify the cost! Let me know if the Zara ones are comfy!

Shop what happened?! I logged on waiting for lots of exciting drunk links and nada! sadgrinI am so happy for you and your dh though.

Hopefully Fri 26-Apr-13 19:35:13

Yes, thanks travel. Am not sure they will be good with my big feet though - have to be v careful with sneakers.

I think Dramatics in casual shoes is the same as Romantics in office-wear. Very difficult. You would hate the shoes I am musing on at the moment Practical & quirky? Or odd plastic granny shoes?

These are my next planned footwear purchase.

shopafrolic Fri 26-Apr-13 19:52:24

Not loving those Travel sorry! I'm 40 Hopefully
Sorry Novice I'm going to leave the drunk links to others I think smile

They are a bargain Amber. Toes out at work though, no can do. Not sure they'd get much wear otherwise.

Hopefully Fri 26-Apr-13 20:30:22

My eyes travel! Why do they have such frightening thick soles? The top half is nice though. Maybe you could sand them down... grin

Is it wrong that I like the sandals that travel has posted? blush

Anyone in the leeds area with money to spend and likes Vivienne Westwood want a buy two items in store and get 20% off code? The email can be forwarded to a friend but has to be printed and redeemed in store by the 5th of May. If anyone's interested let me know. I have no money to spend otherwise I'd use it myself sad

It's called a 'flatform'. OTM.
(down with the kids. innit)

Unsurprisingly I bloody love those sandals TiC!

Puts Topshop on possible weekend shopping list. Local Toppers is really small (though useful for returning online purchases).

shopafrolic Fri 26-Apr-13 22:45:14

Wish I lived in Leeds and had some money OneLittleLady

libertychick Fri 26-Apr-13 22:46:31

I like the sandals too Travelin. But I have bought and returned 3 pairs of shoes to Topshop lately...
I got a £10 voucher from Boden plus 15% discount code and cannot get it to work - just doesn't want to accept it - giving up now, will ring Jonnie tomorrow.

MrsRadicchio Fri 26-Apr-13 22:53:33

Welcome Paris and Early. Love the outfit Paris I think the shoes really make it.

Love the Lotta, I have a pair too, also purchased from the seconds section. Silver looks nice, I have a nude pair.

Hopefully I love shoes, as my recent sprees suggest, am happy to do some virtual shopping on your behalf.

Have you seen these veja that Foxy and I have as an alternative to new balance.

Re flats, would you consider brogues? Also there were some nice slipper shoes on &other stories but just had a look through and can't see them. Some lovely flat shoes though so probably worth a look when you come to London. These another alternative to the NB.

Not sure of your colours sorry, though I know orange is one of them!

marmite shoes I like

Anni I like the sweatshirt. Have tried it on before, may go and look again...

santamarianovella Fri 26-Apr-13 22:53:58

Hi paris!,and thank you for the 90s flashback, very clueless! had a very similar pants that i used to wear with crop sweaters i was 13 ,but obviously had good tastewink .
and i will admit that i did own a pair of clogs and thought they were the greatest, trendiest thing there is, and now just shudder thinking about them, maybe thats what we will all think of wedge trainers in 15 years timegrin
amber im shock, those sandals are soo not you!

Annianni Fri 26-Apr-13 22:57:11

thanks for Liberty smile

Annianni Fri 26-Apr-13 22:59:41

I like those Topshop sandals and the Lotta's.

Not keen on the dm's though, sorry MrsR grin

libertychick Fri 26-Apr-13 23:47:11

Has anyone seen or bought decent chinos or cargos recently? I usually get this type of thing in Gap but a few in that style I tried on looked terrible on me. Looking for navy or dark grey - maybe cobalt....

Hopefully, get the Aldo slipper flats. They are very you.

MarshaBrady Sat 27-Apr-13 07:07:31

Liberty what kind of thing? for some reason an thinking of houlihans but might not be right.

I can't do hasbeens either. Would not look good on me.

MarshaBrady Sat 27-Apr-13 07:08:34

Santa me too re clogs. I think cripes now about them.

noviceoftheday Sat 27-Apr-13 07:23:44

Gah, just lost a post! Liberty try Banana Republic or Ralph Lauren. Also got a cheapie pair from M&S. beware they gape at back though!

It's 9am and 26 deg (please don't hate me!). Today wearing wrangler sun dress with silver gypsy style earrings I bought in Dubai, set of 8 silver bangles from India, ankle bracelet from Egypt and wooden heart necklace from Africa. All accessories are holiday buysgrin

Hopefully Sat 27-Apr-13 07:39:24

Thanks for shoes guys! Am going to try on a bunch of trainers today (will be wearing leather leggings - the ultimate test of whether they work with skinnies!) and hunt down the aldo slippers - I think there's an aldo on Oxford st.

noviceoftheday Sat 27-Apr-13 07:44:11

Clogs and crocs are a fashion that passed me by. Oh and Birkenstocks. Haven't succumbed to the wedge trainers either, thereby cementing my status as not b fashionable!

I meant to say, I wore an orange M&S beach dress yesterday, bought a couple of weeks ago. £15 and very flattering for my body shape.

The day before I wore warehouse turn up shorts which I also bought a couple of weeks ago. Not sure what they were thinking on the cut but the 8 were very snug, and usually 8s are loose in me. I kept them because when I bought them thought I was just having a fat day hmm

MarshaBrady Sat 27-Apr-13 07:48:49

No can't say I've ever worn a croc. Or Birkenstocks or wedge trainers (but probably would with latter if I could get Marant ones).

26 degrees sounds perfect Novice. Has dropped here to 10 unfortunately!

Hopefully Sat 27-Apr-13 08:02:17

I quite like Birkenstocks (for when I need to walk loads and loads), but the only crocs that have passed our threshold are children's ones.

grin at Marsha in crocs.

MarshaBrady Sat 27-Apr-13 08:38:59

Definitely not a good look on me.

I remember a friend used to wear Birkenstocks a lot, they did suit her style.

Morning all.....v sore head after trying rhubarb kir royal and plumb sake ! Neither v nice really....I like champ neat thanks.
Amber I really like those Clarks sandals a lot, look more expensive than they are.....think they are also done in silver and white which if v nice too.
Off to get mere paracetamol sad

Decameron Sat 27-Apr-13 09:11:52

Feel better soon, Drywhite.

I find Birkenstocks and Hasbeens very uncomfortable, if my shoes hurt, I want to cry halfway down the road <granny>. I love wedge trainers, crocs are strictly for the DDs.

Lovely dress, Shop. DD2 shouts no when I try to put that yellow cream on her too.

Novice, hope you are having a great time.

Hi Paris, love the name (and the outfit).

Decameron Sat 27-Apr-13 09:27:40

Liberty, my friend said River Island is good for chinos/cargos. I got J Brand mavericks (the new version of houlihans) in navy and cobalt, they are often on sale on Shopbop.

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 11:41:30

Liberty I have two pairs of fab chinos that were from Aubin & Wills. Allegedly Jack Wills were going to take on some of their designs to cater for the old A&W customer but I haven't been in to see if that's the case yet.
The Hollingworth chinos look very similar though and seem to come in some great colours........

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 12:03:36

Damn! I've missed a delivery while I was out. Might be the jeans angry

Commiserations shop that is so annoying!!!

Thanks * liberty* for telling me to wear funkier nail colour last night. DH work dos are always difficult to judge fashion wise. Sometimes it's a bit classic/safe and old, but last night there were a lot of beautiful people out ( I was sitting next to the most drop dead gorgeous and lovely woman, kept thinking novice would love the diamond rock she was wearing!grin).. I think I pitched it right, just wish I had fewer wrinkles, maybe a fringe is the answer?grin

santamarianovella Sat 27-Apr-13 12:51:23

no experience with chinos here, but i like the look of the current elliot ones, ooh and the j .crew ones look nice. i saw one at NAP.

noviceoftheday Sat 27-Apr-13 13:07:01

That's annoying Shop sad

We're having a great time though ds isn't sleeping particularly well so we are in his room 3/4 times a night. Also both dcs eczema has flared up now so they get extreme heat rash which is v itchy. It's now going to be 30 degrees for the next week so we will see how they fare. We have hired a villa with a pool so the dcs are loving all the water stuff, playground, and dh is loving my new bikinisgrin

On the beauty front, I have rediscovered my love of primers. I always use the nars face primer but the eyelash and lip primers (mac) are sacrificed normally as I never have time. Looks and feels great and have ditched foundation, concealer and eye shadows for a simpler look.

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 13:13:47

Sounds bliss Novice I get heat rash all the time on holiday and DS has eczema so not sure how we'll fare in warmer climes. I bought some of this recently to see if it works
www.magicool.uk.com/magipl1.html

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 13:15:19

Reread my post sorry! Holiday, DH smile, lack of full make up, pool etc sound bliss. Heat rash and lack of sleep for DCs not so blissful!

noviceoftheday Sat 27-Apr-13 13:47:21

grin @ drywhite! The credit card bill arrived on Monday. I won't be purchasing any rocks for a while! That's why it's great falling in love again with old pieces, especially those dh got me on our varies hols as it always evokes a memory of that holiday.

I am sure you're the only one who noticed wrinkles btw! We are always our own worst critics. Sounds like you looked fab!

noviceoftheday Sat 27-Apr-13 14:08:54

Thanks Shop, I knew what you meantgrin the good bits far outweigh the lack of sleep and the creeping rash. Thanks for the tip, i will give that a go too. I have tried everything and normally Toddler Milk by SunSense works so I don't know why it's failed this holiday. We're just keeping them permanently distracted (not too hard!) so they don't scratch themselves,

MrsRadicchio Sat 27-Apr-13 14:22:25

Ah novice sounds like you are having a good time, apart from DC sleep issues. Jealous of the lovely weather - it has gone cold again here.

Glad you had a good night Dry !

I like birkenstocks for the comfort factor. In fact I left the house this morning in an outfit that could get me thrown off this thread. Let's just say it involved birkenstocks with socks grin

The JV snake flats have arrived. They are v similar to the M&S ones I think, which should make those of you who went for the M&S ones very happy. I am sending them back as I am not so keen on the snake print which has a sheen to it.

More shoe love

sandals for hopefully??!

another NB alternative

Love these

MrsRadicchio Sat 27-Apr-13 14:27:30

Oh who has initials RC on pin? I love the white brogues in your "clothes I own" board

these

Where are they from?

Love these too

libertychick Sat 27-Apr-13 14:45:53

Mrs R the white brogue link is going to the Ash high tops...can you relink?

I would like Houlihans/mavericks Marsha and Dec but I need to watching the spending right now. Good tip to try river island – have noticed Mrs CB recommending RI denim a lot lately too. Novice I tried the M&S ones and they are not bad – would do as a stop gap – but they are slightly clingy on my muscular calves. envy at 26 degrees!

Shop the Hollingworth chinos do look good but the description says they sit low on the hips which has put me off ordering them. Hoping to get a chance to pop into the branch on Marylebone Road and try them.

Sounds like you had a good night Drywhite.

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 14:57:00

Mmmm I read that too Liberty
These were the A&W ones not much use now I know

libertychick Sat 27-Apr-13 15:02:41

They are lovely - dammit why did A&W have to close???

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 15:05:24

What size are you Liberty?

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 15:08:19

Liberty I've PMd you....

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Sat 27-Apr-13 15:13:52

I went to Zara today and they didn't have the shoes I wanted but I saw these and it was love at first sight. I think they will go with the blue dress so I bought them.

They're making their debut tonight at a party with grey skinnies with zips at the bottom and a white silk shirt. Most of my clothes are black, white and grey and no pattern with the odd bit of pink, cobalt and neon (boring I know) so those shoes will add a bit of interest and go with everything I own.

Saw some skinny cargo pants in H&M but cheapo obviously.

I'm listening with interest to talk of slipper flats. After being caught in last summers non stop rain too many times I had to chuck out all my ballet flats.

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 15:14:52

Amazing shoes Paris tonight's outfit sounds great.

libertychick Sat 27-Apr-13 15:37:33

Fab shoes Paris

Shop thanks for the link - oh to have a smaller arse!

santamarianovella Sat 27-Apr-13 15:42:13

Love the shoes paris.
I have a my-wardrobe code that ends tonight ,I searched the site last night and the only thing that i like was a dressvby malene birger shop.bymalenebirger.com/gb/lookbook/look1082/

So what do you think?should I go for it?i wanted flats, but i didn't like what they have.

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 15:43:14

No worries Liberty Will share it out there then as too good to miss. There are some brand new Aubin & Wills forstal chinos in tan on EBay, no bids yet, size 10. One day left.

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 15:45:03

Nice enough dress Santa (I assume you're comfortable with the tops of your arms?). Is it a huge discount?

libertychick Sat 27-Apr-13 15:46:33

I think that dress is a classic Santa. Very nice indeed!

I've linked that dress before Santa, it's fab - definitely buy!

Have just been for a lovely lunch with some of the W&A crew, all looking v stylish including Marsha showing off her ridiculously long and slender legs. Did a bit of shopping too, Whistles stripey tube skirt and neon pink Kate spade earrings. Now off to Asda, the glamour!

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 15:48:52

Sorry sorry. It's a great dress Santa I just worry when people have a code they have to use. I guess the question is, if you didn't have the code would you still buy it? If yes, then go for it. It'll be super versatile. Can see it dressed up or down.

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Sat 27-Apr-13 16:11:35

Love the dress Santa, so versatile.

Annianni Sat 27-Apr-13 16:12:04

Fab shoes Paris

Lovely dress Santa

Glad you had a good night Drywhite

Glamorous lunches and 26 degrees... envy
I've just bought 1500 bricks grin

santamarianovella Sat 27-Apr-13 16:17:20

Thank you all,it's very tempting shop, and I do have some balance with them so it will be almost %50 less. I don't know what's wrong with them this season, but I'm not loving their selection at all,my-wardrobe use to stock nice things.
I have been taking kickboxing classes and I hope I can rock them grin

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 16:52:10

Wow! That's a definite bargain then Santa I'd go for it. Would love to hear how you style it as I think there'll be lots of options.

Bracing myself for round 2....hair of the dog chez drygrin.....ever the optimist, were having a BBQ (in the summer house....with indoor sparklers --must grow up--)...
DH bought this summer house ( I call it a "shed" to piss him off!!) at a country show last year. I was angry because he just bought it without discussion ...anyway, it has a fire inside and chimney that you can BBQ on all year round. It's actually quite brilliant for entertaining because
1. It's informal
2. You can make loads in advance then get guests to cook their meat ( men go mad doing this as they seem to love the fire bit!!)
3.its different
4. Because its " outside" I can use all disposable stuff, so no washing up.

I won't admit this to DH because I might want fashion payback but it's actuall quite brilliant!!!

Sorry, nothing to do with fashion......or perhaps it is... What does one wear for a night in a shed???answers please!grin

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 17:43:13

I need to see a link to this 'shed' Drywhite it sounds awesome!

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 17:58:50

Amber have you seen the new Warehouse try it on thing on their website? Please do a blog post about it. e.g. here's what the model showed me looking like in it, here's what I actually looked like...... not sure if it's a helpful tool or not...... There's a thread about it - general consensus is not.....

shop here you go
I had no say in this, put it down to a mid life crisis, better than a motor bike I guess....but it needed bloody foundations!! Not sure whether we have s or m, but it can seat comfortably 16 ffs! grin.... And it's not as if I live in a country mansion either!!!! I honk our neighbours suspect we have a dodgy hot tub in there!!!grin

I meant " think" although "honk" sounds much better grin

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 18:39:15

Amazing!!!!! Need to track them down the next time we go to the Game Fair!! honk does sound better and YY - if you lived in a cul de sac with that in the garden I would be suspecting keys were being left in a bowl at the door. But it's brill!
Next MNV meet up at the shed?! grin

A MNV meet up in my shed would be hysterical and you could stay over as it has 3 pull out beds!!!!grin

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 19:17:00

I'm in!

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 19:17:40

DH says if his job doesn't work out can we move in?

MrsRadicchio Sat 27-Apr-13 21:08:36

Wow that is some shed dry. Better make sure DH doesn't see it, he has been making noises about wanting a "man space".

Here is the correct link for the white brogues

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 21:15:14

My DH has now seen the 'shed' and is asking all sorts of questions. Does it get smoky? Does it get too hot in summer? Can you use it as a sauna? I think he's tempted!
Love the brogues MrsR especially the sole.

shopafrolic Sat 27-Apr-13 21:39:02

Great brogues MrsR - hopefully someone will turn up and tell us where they are from!

Drywhite that 'shed' is amazing. Definite 'keys in bowl' vibe but what the hell grin I am not showing it to my DH - we have just built a deck so that's enough for now.

SJP always looks good! But she is so teeny tiny and skinny that I almost automatically assume I cannot do anything she wears.

Amber good call on the Jimmy Jimmy jeans.

libertychick Sat 27-Apr-13 23:11:14

And YY to an MNV meet up in that shed! I'm in the Lake District in May - how about then? grin

MarshaBrady Sun 28-Apr-13 00:27:22

Am home now. Was a fun day. Amber looked fabulous as ever in P Lim tee. And I finally saw the leggings of fame- Hopefully's. Looking forward to mnv version! grin <sleep>.

MarshaBrady Sun 28-Apr-13 05:40:45

Love this shed talk. Hilarious. grin

Oh also got to see Amber's excellent Jimmy Jimmys. Good work on the brilliant freebie!

Am always awake so early if I go out.

noviceoftheday Sun 28-Apr-13 06:26:57

Good grief Marsha! It's not even dawn yet is it?!

Was envy at the sound of your long legs!

Annianni Sun 28-Apr-13 07:54:11

Fabulous shed Drywhite
I'd have to plant some pampas grass, to wind the neighbour's up grin

We could do a mnv shed tour, ours is now going to be built out of bricks like a little house with a slate roof and a lean-to for ds2 to play in.

I don't think it'll be done for May though Liberty, so I'll just wave as you pass me on the M6 grin

Hi everyone from my sun lounger in Doha, it is almost 10am and about 30deg already we won't talk about the practically unheard of cloud and showers on my first day and a half. It's been a great few days catching up with my friend. The party was fantastic, ended in the pool at about 4am (don't worry Marsha, I swapped the Acne dress for a bikini first grin!

Welcome Early and Paris, loving the chat and links here. Sounds like a nice lunch was had and your shed sounds great Dry. We have a similar thing in our garden, no woodburner though envy, it is a playroom (playdoh and paint restricted to there), gym (DH's turbo trainer) cum guest room for us. But what did you wear in the end for your evening Dry?smile

I have had a lot of time to catch up with fashion magazines whilst here (my case weighed a ton as it contained Vogue, InStyle, Red, Elle, Grazia....)! Two snippets I thought worth reporting....

Amber can I be first to bow down to your fashion forward ness...there is a pair of white studded cowboy boots from R&B in the Vogue supplement grin, sorry, can't find them on website to link.

If anyone is interested there is a pop up J Crew store happening at Central St Martins on 11 May.

Have to move sun loungers now, from beside friend's pool to the poolside at the Four Seasons - apparently the food and service is better theregrin. So tough. Flight home tonight which is a bit sad but also smile because I am missing DH and DC's.

Hopefully Sun 28-Apr-13 08:34:59

dry that is one awesome shed.

Lovely catch up with some MNers yesterday, lots of admiring of Marsha's Iris and Ink cashmere and all-too-brief admiration of Amber's leopard print and fab new buys (major tube skirt envy here).

Not feeling remotely delicate this morning, and it took me ages to work out that I basically forgot to get another drink after about 9pm, so was sober by the time I got back at 12:30am after a (hilarious) cab ride with Marsha.

Bought a couple of bits yesterday, including <gasp> a pair of flats! Lovely slipper flats. Looked out for some trainers but none that grabbed me so will do an ASOS order tomorrow I think. Also tried on Havaianas and like the slimmer ones, but no good colours in the shop I tried them on, so will also order them.

I also bought some white (off white, actually) jeans - Topshop baxters - and will be trying them on with lots of things tomorrow and deciding if they work. Think they will be nice with slipper flats.

MarshaBrady Sun 28-Apr-13 08:51:13

Novice I know! I was awake even earlier before the sun rose. I don't drink anymore during the week cos I always wake too early.

Love, love hearing about your holiday and Sleep's. Sleep love your attitude, at the food and service being better. Am all for the good life. grin

We have a small shed full of stuff. It might be last on the Tour list grin.

Hopefully me too on the water, a bit later on though, so feel ok now. Great flats.

Morning....another bloody hangover ( home made limoncello ,mbira belle brandy and raspberry gin.....after champagne and white wine, not a good combo!)... Next week will be dry for Drygrin

I adore SJP style wise....she just always looks a bit quirky but fabulous.

Was it the London meet up? Sounds like you all had a great time.....can we have a full account?
The rest of us had a virtual meet up in my DH shed. grin at pampas grass! shop it doesn't get smokey at all. There's a technique to lighting it ( took ages to learn and a few smoke filled, freezing evenings to master), it gets really warm inside. Haven't had it over the summer but it has double glazed!! windows that you can leave open I guess.

And for a night in the shed I wore.....burgundy skinny jeans, cream lace top, 2 vests, nude ballet pumps and chandelier earrings.....needed a blanket!

MarshaBrady Sun 28-Apr-13 08:55:58

The party sounds amazing btw. Glad you had the opportunity to wear the amazing Acne dress again. And glad it didn't go in the pool! grin

MarshaBrady Sun 28-Apr-13 08:59:50

A rather big group Dry, lunch at 1.00 in Chelsea, which then segued into evening drinks. Rather a long mu! It was great fun. Lots of chat. Good outfits.

Really looking forward to doing our version and meeting lots of you smile.

MarshaBrady Sun 28-Apr-13 09:10:32

Santa love that dress. Did you get it?

I like SJP's style too and that it reflects NYC.

AndiMac Sun 28-Apr-13 09:18:52

Ooh, something to contribute! I've ordered these chinos in berry colour, which should arrive on Monday, so I'll let you know how they fit.

AndiMac Sun 28-Apr-13 09:19:58

Some really terrible model pictures on the different colours, but the chinos themselves look ok.

noviceoftheday Sun 28-Apr-13 10:39:38

Ooh hello Sleep <waves>!

So it's 32 deg here today. Am wearing black and white print sundress (that's my code for blimmin' short dress btwgrin) which I got from last trip to Oz. it's halter neck and so so flattering. Today's jewelry is swaroski stacked gemstone rings, then a gorgeous gemstone bracelet that dh got me from Egypt. It's 22 carat gold and is 6 different gems linked with a small diamond on each side. Gems are amethyst, blue topaz and amber. I haven't worn it in about 5 yearsblush I had forgotten how much I adored this bracelet. I also have blue topaz set in gold earrings (again dh from Egypt!) and a blue topaz pendant that my friend got me for my 40th. White gold ankle bracelet (apparently from Dubai not Egyptblush), and gold watch that's set as a bangle, bought in Paris. (Err if anyone official is reading this we're not crims, dh is a total travel fiend and insisted We travelled a lot pre dcs. Good thing too!)

I am wearing the ever trusty havs but will swap for my Dune gemstone sandals. Will link later but they are amazingly comfy (I bought more for fashion than comfort!) and totally worth the £65.

Marsha, Hopefully, Amber, you're really making look forward to get together nowsmile. I shall have to wear at least one thing I have rabbited on about here!

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Sun 28-Apr-13 11:00:36

Removing posh dress to jump in pool at 4am! Lunch in Chelsea! <weeps with jealousy>

My sartorial dilemma of the day....trainers or hiking boots to walk the dog in the woods.

Amber I have a pair of white chelsea boots that I bought last summer. My friends howled with laughter when the saw them. Hopefully I shall have the last laugh when they become uber fashionable.

QueenCadbury Sun 28-Apr-13 11:26:19

Morning all. Like dry I am feeling a little bit jaded. About to take the dc swimming and then catch up on housework so my style today will be lounge wear (aka jogging bottoms)!

Sounds like you've all had really good weekends. Holidays, sheds and meet ups all sound very exciting. Gutted that I can't make the meet up so you are going to have to show me photos. I really want to see what everyone looks like!

Wore the red lipstick out again last night. Dh really does not like it and so I'm losing my confidence at wearing it. I definately need to order a pink and see if that's preferable to his tastes grin.

shopafrolic Sun 28-Apr-13 11:59:43

Cooking roast lunch for friends so expect boozy updates later. Waves to all and welcome to new contributors.
Envious of those in warmer climes and pool parties. YY to the good life!
Dry saw your message, will respond later when I've recovered from how much of a dick I am!!
Sounds as tho A&W catch up was a good one, am expecting big things now on the 18th!

noviceoftheday Sun 28-Apr-13 12:50:56

QueenC does your dh give a reason why he doesn't like it?

Shop, I am intrigued!

Hopefully Sun 28-Apr-13 13:10:17

QueenC I'm sorry your DH is still having lipstick ishoos. How are you feeling about it, if you separate out his opinion (easier said than done)? We've been away since Friday, but will email you back tomorrow morning smile

I am feeling v frumpy today, due to hungover dressing in comfy-but-boring clothes. Dark teal skinnies feeling far too wintery, even though weather isn't warm today.

QueenCadbury Sun 28-Apr-13 14:40:45

If I tell you please don't think he's a twat grin. Normally he has very little opinion but this red lipstick has really got to him. When I came back with it last week he told me it was ageing, then last night he told me it looks cheap and tarty! Very difficult to want to wear something when you're told that! It also makes me wonder what other people think about it as I haven't had any compliments and it's not like you can't notice it! hopefully I haven't yet ordered the pink. I've decided first that I'm going to go and try on a similar colour in a shop and see how it looks.

QueenCadbury Sun 28-Apr-13 14:43:34

hopefully did you get any shoes/trainers?

MarshaBrady Sun 28-Apr-13 15:12:24

lol Shop it will be amazing <the pressure> grin.

Paris you're welcome to join us, you've got a good name!

Excellent Novice looking forward to meeting you and the Balenciaga wink grin.

Oh QueenC I can't really do full on lipstick so not much advice.

Decam how is your dd? Hope all is ok.

* queenC* I love red lipstick on the right person, it can look v chic IMO ....think French black liquid eyeliner and red lips.....think it only looks cheap and tarty ( how very dare he angry) if worn with porn star full on eye make up. I think the rule is dark eyes light lips, light eyes dark lips .

Also, like pinks, there are a lot of different reds out there.
Perhaps your DH just needs to get used to seeing you wearing it.

Oh and I'm looking v lovely in too long faded black track suit pants and a very out of shape grey sweatshirt, finished off with a fetching pair of M and S slippers.

My Whistles dress comes tomorrow...yey!

I probably look cheap and tarty don't I? smile

MarshaBrady Sun 28-Apr-13 15:53:26

QueenC I think it can look great too. Did a quick search of red lipstick on pinterest and it can look fab. I just pinned a whole load. For make up ideas really.

Olivia P.

And as an aside how good does Joan look with red lipstick.

I know you'll have your own style. But it can look very chic as Dry says.

libertychick Sun 28-Apr-13 16:08:41

The meet up sounds so good - really wishing I could come to the MNV one but I will be on the M6 that day waving to Anni and Drywhite. Slightly nervous though that I wouldn't meet the sartorial standard anyway so maybe just as well I have a bit longer to nail my look grin!

Sleep hope you are enjoying the Four Seasons - pool service is very important. DH and I did lots of SE Asia travel pre DD and I have very good memories of lying in the sun, sipping cocktails and ordering oysters just cause we could!

QueenC I don't think your DH sounds like a twat - he just sounds like he is a bit shocked. You said in a previous email he likes you best in hiking gear half way up a mountain so something like very bright lippy might make him feel you are suddenly not the woman he married. The strong reaction to it could just be a bit of insecurity. My DH went a bit funny this year when I started buying more clothes and making more of an effort with makeup etc going to work. It can feel threatening if you think the person you love is moving on or changing without you. I know it sounds dreadfully old fashioned but lots of men are sensitive souls and need reassurance that they are important to you. And you might feel a bit weird if he suddenly shaved his head or got his hair coloured or changed how he dressed. Appearance says a lot about what we think about ourselves and if he has fixed ideas about what red lippy means he might not be able to make the mental leap beyond that to just thinking about it as a colour that suits some people and doesn't suit others!

santamarianovella Sun 28-Apr-13 16:09:34

hi all,
sounds you all had a great time marsha,i did buy the dress. too good to be missed.
i love your tee amber, saw someone wearing it the other day with white jeans.
those slipperes are fab hopefully ,very loubiton.
i think DH will be on the same flight as you sleep and im envy of room service and pool parties .
what is it about men and sheds?dh wants a big one and our back garden is tiny,it will ruin the view from the kitchen!
i might join your shed tour after all,and get some ideas from dry and ani, yours sound nice.
i had a lovely afternoon, went for a facial and a message and got convinced to have a padi/mani .spent a fortune, but was worth it.feel amazing !

noviceoftheday Sun 28-Apr-13 16:39:12

QueenC, Liberty pretty much said word for word what I was going to say. I am willing to put money on you looking nice with the red lippy and he not being complimentary because he thinks it isn't "you" because he has a fixed idea in his mind of who "you" are. Doesn't make him a twat just human I guess. It's a bit like when people lose weight and think they will get lots of compliments only to find people telling them they look gaunt, the weight doesn't suit them etc etc

libertychick Sun 28-Apr-13 16:47:06

Andimac would love to hear the feedback on the chinos. I think I might order those - debating if I need to get 12 or a 14 so some feedback would be great.

Novice your bracelet sounds amazing. I will definitely have to get to a MU someday just to drool over some of your jewels.

Just pinned this bag - love it!

Ooh, love the bag liberty I love green, it always cheers me up

This is my next bag buy, in the shamrock. I love it!

Also very nice Amber I have a mint green bag at the minute which I just love. It's falling apart though so will have to be replaced soon

shopafrolic Sun 28-Apr-13 17:38:04

Drywhite that's how I wear my red lipstick - liquid black eyeliner..... agree, too much make up with it looks wrong. I think it takes the people who are closest to us the most time to adjust to new things. Especially if they don't necessarily fit the 'role' they currently see us in. My DH is fairly tolerant of me and my fashion and beauty choices but he definitely prefers me with no make up on covered in mud in the garden i think!
I've had an arse of a day. Cooked a fab roast with great friends but DS had an EPIC monster tantrum over bloody duplicate Thomas the Tank engine toys. Ruined lunch for me! As a result I've drunk all the champagne we were having to celebrate DH's job and am now on the Cava!
Will look at all the lovely links after bath time.

shopafrolic Sun 28-Apr-13 18:07:44

Great chinos AndiMac

Sounds like a great afternoon shop...tantrums/ petulant teenagers etc are always easier to handle with champagne!!!grin

Hopefully Sun 28-Apr-13 18:09:05

Quick Q, has anyone bought from Zalando? Was it ok? Delivery/returns?

Hopefully Sun 28-Apr-13 18:10:34

Oh, and I wear red lipstick with base, mascara, brow pencil and blusher - no eye shadow or liner at all (because I have eczema rather than as a style choice, but luckily I like it that way!)

QueenCadbury Sun 28-Apr-13 18:55:44

Thanks all for the lipstick help. I totally agree that it can look totally chic. I think kate rocks it. Wierdly dh doesn't mind the dramatic smoky eyes and the false eyelashes and he notices when my eyelashes need retinting so he knows I need mascara otherwise. I've just tried it on again and I'm wearing an old black tshirt and hair up and it does look better so maybe it's all the blonde hair around my face that cheapens the look?

Annianni Sun 28-Apr-13 19:32:17

I've bought from them Hopefully, they are good, free returns etc. And there's usually a discount code floating about too.

santamarianovella Sun 28-Apr-13 19:59:56

queen do you mind me asking what color/brand your wearing?
i read somewhere that coral red,is best for blonds, think of betty draper red,and bluish red is best for pale dark haired women like dita von tease.i will look for the magazine as it has tons of shades of red for all skin tones/hair colors.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman Sun 28-Apr-13 20:11:55

Evening all! V envy of all these glamorous-sounding weekends. I spent yesterday eve at Doncaster Races (on duty, not at all glam), but was treated to a nice lunch today by some new clients. Have a food baby now though and feel an early night coming on.
I have a challenge for you - can anyone find me a nice grey sweater - round neck, neat shape, cashmere acceptable, mid grey, not too light, not too dark? I appreciate it may be the wrong time of year to seek out such things, but the weather is so awful still and I spend alot of time outside and have a gap where a grey sweater should be. Also (just for fun) I'm having a whirlwind trip to Copenhagen next week - 24 hours in my favourite city and will be visiting one of my favourite Department Stores, Ilum. What would you bring back, bearing in mind I will only have carry-on luggage? Don't plan on spending a fortune, but I have never yet come back empty-handed. What should I definitely not pass up?

shopafrolic Sun 28-Apr-13 20:18:22

Loving the green bag links. Another epic tantrum from DS at bath time. F@cking Thomas The f@cking tank engine. Some days are challenging and it will all be easier tomorrow right???
I must break the rules on red lipstick then Santa I'm dark haired and fairly fair skinned but can't wear the bluish reds. This one is good for me....
pinterest.com/pin/122230577358553648/
Love this in my head I look like this

Grumpy some clogs?grin

Amber I love that maxi dress on you, it really looks fab and I'm impressed at the pie jeans pie chart....

Santa I am in departure lounge suspiciously eyeing up men to see if they might be your DH (must seem v dodgy, could get into trouble)grin. Give me a clue how I might recognise him!

grumpy sorry was thinking Amsterdam there....oops!

sleep are you stalking people!!!!

Hopefully Sun 28-Apr-13 20:42:39

Thanks anni. They have a good range of NB trainers, might order tomorrow.

grumpy have you tried uniqlo? They don't tend to have cashmere in S/S but prob still have merino.

santamarianovella Sun 28-Apr-13 20:43:44

thats a pretty color shop i think the only people who can rock the bluish red tone are the very very pale, with jet black hair,.i tried the one dita wears, mac russian red,and viva glam and looked scary!,but my hair is a light-medium brown,so maybe thats where it got wrong.the only color that worked for me is estee lauder tango.
also it helps when you use a lip brush to apply the lipstick, red lipsticks are highly pigmented, and they look best when blotted.

Annianni Sun 28-Apr-13 20:49:32

Hopefully, I've got an email with discount codes if you want them, but they expire tonight.

£10 off a £50 spend
£15 off £75 and
£20 off £100

Annianni Sun 28-Apr-13 20:51:03

I don't know if they are a general use code or one time only use ones, so if you want them, I'll pm you instead of posting them on here.

grin...I guess I am dry! Wouldn't it be a funny coincidence if I was sat next to Santa's DH though!

sleep it would really freak him out.....so funny!

QueenCadbury Sun 28-Apr-13 21:02:45

santa it's a house of colour one so chosen specifically for me. I don't think the shade is wrong.

Hopefully Sun 28-Apr-13 21:02:52

Ooh, Anni that would be fab if you could pm me codes.

santamarianovella Sun 28-Apr-13 21:14:05

sleep grin,he is 6'3, with dark brown hair ,and i hope he is sporting a stubble nowwink.should i tell him to wave to the suspicious looking woman scanning the lounge?

Annianni Sun 28-Apr-13 21:14:45

Pm sent
Happy shopping smile

QueenC sounds like he just needs to get used to it. I'd stick with it, bet you look gorgeous.

The lipstick colour having any relation to hair colour/eye colour thing is a fallacy. It's all skin tone based.

santamarianovella Sun 28-Apr-13 21:29:13

sleep , dry you both are hilarious. if you do sit next to himsleep could you tell him,how hard its been for me looking after the dcs these last two months along with the kitchen renovation and all the frustrations it comes with, and for that i totally deserve something from my want list! the chloe flats perhapsgrin.

MarshaBrady Sun 28-Apr-13 21:37:42

lol Sleep and Santa grin. Too right Santa! He hasn't got much time to get that superb gift, Chloe flats, better get onto it.

Amber and Hopefully thought your lipstick / make up look fabulous. So definitely the right choice, very chic. As I'm sure yours is QueenC.

Grumpy too dark? I imagine.

Love the green bag links too.

Whisper "Chloe flats, Chloe flats .." In his ear sleep when he falls asleep!!!!!!!

MarshaBrady Sun 28-Apr-13 21:42:31

grin

libertychick Sun 28-Apr-13 22:39:01

Grumpy you have described exactly what I am looking for in terms of a grey sweater so have done some hunting for both of us! Here you go:
Bench grey marl sweatshirt
Bench again
Iris & Ink
John Lewis collection
Gap
Woolovers

Hard to find the perfect one. As for Copenhagen what about a wallet or a clutch from Decadent?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman Sun 28-Apr-13 22:54:34

Thanks for all the lovely links, liberty. I especially like the Gap sweaters, the only trouble is I now want one in every colour! I've just bought a new wallet or I'd definitely be checking out Decadent in Copenhagen. Perhaps I still will - I'm a sucker for bags.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman Sun 28-Apr-13 23:04:29
noviceoftheday Mon 29-Apr-13 07:34:30

Ooooh the lovely green bag links! I love the Proenza PS1 in green although may have missed the boat as NAP don't have it anymore. I also love the Balenciaga City in green. Sigh. I have told myself no more big purchases until I do this years ISA (I only remembered on 5 April this year) and pension.

Marsha, you're on....my Balenciaga looks forward to meeting you too.grin

Liberty I have probably over described the bracelet! You can't see the diamonds is they are tiny and just used to hold the links together. It is a beautiful and simple bracelet though. Today's accessories are high street I think, just need to decide!

shopafrolic Mon 29-Apr-13 10:16:50

Morning all. Two orders going back to store today. Very disappointed.
This Other Stories tee too boxy for me
and this ring
too small
and from Cos
random piece of sticky out fabric makes it look weird
and
might as well wear an orange sack - bloomin enormous!
So fingers crossed the Outnet Levis dress is a keeper.

noviceoftheday Mon 29-Apr-13 10:34:21

grin@ Shop! Pity about the ring. It's lovely. I have learned that those gorgeous billowy smocky tops are about the worst things I can wear! I would need about another foot of height to be able to carry that off!

Hopefully Mon 29-Apr-13 11:00:23

Shop think of all the money you've saved! I can't get on with Cos at all - I need structure around my middle - broad shoulders and wide saddlebag bits means I just look like a brick if I wear something that doesn't go in at the middle.

Have just spent literally two hours researching the perfect pair of neon coral trainers (obsessed, much?) and have ordered a pair that I am slightly worried aren't going to be neon enough, so will refrain from linking any of the many pairs I examined this morning in case they all sell out (because, surely, everyone is hoping to find a pair of neon coral trainers...). I am aiming to recreate this sort of look.

I am wearing my brand new (off) white topshop baxters and bertie flats today, with coffee coloured silk shirt. And olive zebra scarf and leather cuff to make it fractionally less sophisticated/dull. Still much more grown up than my usual look, but nice for a bit of a change. Am loving the white jeans (and am anticipating them being good with aforementioned trainers too), can't believe how many outfit choices they have opened up.

I also finally bought a new bra on the weekend. 30E!! Fits beautifully though. Now I need to cope with the concept of buying a couple more, so I don't just wear this one to death in a couple of months.

Annianni Mon 29-Apr-13 12:06:31

Love those shoes Hopefully
And the neon coral.

Fab green bag links too.

Postman's just been with Liberty's navy Gap bag. I love it and will use it loads.
thanks
I have an urge to pin it, so I'll have to do another bathroom shot grin

Brand alley have AH bags today, along with P Lim, Lanvin and Celine. Still £££ though.

Annianni Mon 29-Apr-13 12:10:48

It's a bummer when you have to send everything back Shop
What's next on your wishlist?

Love those grey sweaters Liberty

Hope you got back ok Sleep
Very envy of your fab weekend away.
What did you get your friend in the end?
Did you spot MrSanta?
Or should that be father christmas?! grin

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Mon 29-Apr-13 12:25:05

Love the pin Hopefully

The woman in the photo is wearing Nike frees isn't she? Nike offer a build your own trainers service with some neon options.

carrie74 Mon 29-Apr-13 13:21:35

Hello All

Hopefully nice neons. I'd not mentioned before, but my running trainers (Nike) are grey and neon orange (although also v v muddy grin). Who'd have thunk I was ahead of the curve last year when I bought them? Deffo worth a look at Nike, I'd say. In fact, when I was buying, I was wondering what had happened to "normal" trainer colours - they were all totally showy. I've grown to love mine though, even though I only wear them to do something I hate.

Busy weekend, but on Friday did a smash and grab in half an hour in Bath. Bought these in the Gap sale (not to be worn together grin): loud shirt
loud trousers

Had also tried on some ballet flats and navy cropped trousers for work, and was all set to buy, but had a 20% off full price stuff online only. Asked if they'd match in store, they refused (which really surprised me bring Gap), so they didn't get the sale. In the end, my 20% could be used in BR as well, so overall, they got their sale, just not that area manager. Bought this lot online:
work trousers
work flats black
work flats nude

So a bit boring and work oriented, but much required.

Hopefully Mon 29-Apr-13 13:47:51

lol, the ones I have bought are Nikes, so hopefully I'll be ok!

Carrie is it wrong that I can sort of imagine loud shirt and loud trousers in the same outfit? grin

Ooh, some of my ebay buys have arrived, off to try on...

carrie74 Mon 29-Apr-13 13:53:08

Actually hopefully I can see it working too...on someone way trendier than me (perhaps around LFW too!). grin

I linked both those items on my blog carrie, and yes, I'd wear them together!

shopafrolic Mon 29-Apr-13 14:27:10

Thought I'd seen them before Carrie! Nice shopping, and I love the nude flats.
Anni these are next for me:
teal dress
shift
I really need some dresses. I don't have any Spring Summer daytime dresses other than the Whistles one i bought. This is my first time trying Me&em so fingers crossed. Not sure i can afford to keep both.....

Hopefully Mon 29-Apr-13 14:31:53

I love that shift shop - far too a-line for me, but gorgeous shape.

I am now wearing my new (via ebay) French Connection trousers and I love them, but they are more pink than they look on the website, so i'm going to have to dye them. Fab shape though, nice and relaxed.

Hopefully Mon 29-Apr-13 14:32:14

And also I fit into a size 10, which is always a happy experience with trousers for me.

Hopefully Mon 29-Apr-13 14:33:07

link fail. Try here

Hopefully Mon 29-Apr-13 14:33:31

Grr. Stupid FC website. They are the nix nights one in holiday crush.

Decameron Mon 29-Apr-13 14:37:30

DD2 is fine, thanks Marsha, apart from getting a bit grubby as she still refuses to have a bath. She is asleep right now so at her cutest!

Love the trousers, Hopefully.

Those dresses look great, Shop. I have the first one in pale pink. I hope it gets warmer soon so I can wear it. I also want to get the shift dress in cornflower, please let me know how it is.

I am dying to know if Sleep spotted Mr Santamarianovella.

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Mon 29-Apr-13 14:39:30

I'm going to have to sit on my hands after looking on the Sincerely Jules blog. I really want to but loads of shorts and sundresses even though I know we won't have the weather for them here in Britain. I should stick to European blogs rather than L.A. based ones!

shopafrolic Mon 29-Apr-13 14:43:00

That's my problem Hopefully I'm really not sure what shape suits my body. Hence a Grecian and an A Line I guess? And this just fell in for me to try too...
pinterest.com/pin/122230577359214792/
I'm hoping when we do the London meet up someone will look at me and say - these are the type of dresses that you need to try as I am clueless.

shopafrolic Mon 29-Apr-13 14:44:06

How's the fit on the Grecian one Decam?

Decameron Mon 29-Apr-13 14:46:50

I bought the medium and it fits well. I think I had a bit of room. I'll try it on again tonight, it's been stuck up in the loft with my summer clothes since I bought it!

shopafrolic Mon 29-Apr-13 14:54:56

Have just changed my profile pic on Pin. Early modelling career?! grin
https://pinterest.com/shopafrolic1/

shopafrolic Mon 29-Apr-13 15:00:06

I've ordered the M too. Fingers crossed then as I know you're smaller than me Decam. Jeans must have been the delivery I missed. Picking them up from the Post Office tomorrow PM!

Decameron Mon 29-Apr-13 15:27:58

Aw, that's a great photo, Shop. Love the paisley! I'd say the medium will fit you.

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Mon 29-Apr-13 16:49:20

Love all the dress links, especially the shift.

I have just ordered these and that is IT for clothes for quite a while.

It's my 1st wedding anniversary on saturday and DH and I are going out on the town! I'll wear the above skort hmm with a white t shirt, white blazer and black strappy sandals. Bad combo?

All you winters on here, can you please recommend a bright pink lipstick, I'll wear with minimal eye makeup I promise!

carrie74 Mon 29-Apr-13 16:52:03

Aww, cute pic, shop. And nice dresses. The T short maxi is on my wish list too, and love the shift especially! I'm buying more and more from Me&Em and am rarely disappointed (in fact, I've been really sad when I've had to send stuff back where it didn't suit or wrong size, because the quality's impeccable, haven't seen anything so good on the High St). Sizing also very kind lol!

Amber I remembered the shirt on your blog (I'd been eyeing it up for a while, so was quietly thrilled when saw you were too), but didn't realise you'd blogged the trousers too. Wearing together is a bit too fashun for me and rural Somerset, I'm afraid grin, but I can totally see others pulling it off with flair.

carrie74 Mon 29-Apr-13 16:53:34

Ooh, Paris sounds like a fab outfit. That ?skort is fab.

paris there's a brilliant bright pink in Superdrugs MUA range and it's cheap as chips. Shade 3, its very deep but very bright and looks fab on

foxysocks Mon 29-Apr-13 17:20:20

hello hello smile

no new purchases, got my HoF sale day bras and the fit is great on me, so pleased

cobalt scarf should get here tomorrow grin

what do people do about washing cashmere? dry clean, cold hand wash? i need exact instructions, have never done it before and both my sweaters need washing tomorrow confused

shopafrolic Mon 29-Apr-13 17:24:21

I was a cashmere laundry virgin and was terrified but I put sweater into laundry bags (a pillowcase would do) and wash in the machine on a handwash setting. I then follow Marsha's drying tip. Lay flat on a towel and roll up to absorb excess moisture and then dry flat on a dry towel.... Has worked for my I&I cashmere and the MNV orange sweater.

foxysocks Mon 29-Apr-13 17:26:56

thanks shop, those are the exact two sweaters I am washing tomorrow <gulp>. not sure i dare to put them in the machine, maybe if i wake up feeling brave! will def do the roll thingymajig, I remember that tip from marsha now you mention it.

MarshaBrady Mon 29-Apr-13 17:42:10

Decam pleased dd2 is ok. Although I get the sleep thing. Ds2 is very cute when asleep! Although he hasn't napped in the day since he was one! So early to stop. Really changed how the day felt.

Carrie I love those! Sadly the Gap site is not letting me look, but am going to check them out.

Love those dresses Shop. Gorgeous colours.

Paris I feel that way about Le Catch. I saw it on one of frugal's links <waves smile>. It is so lovely but American and some stuff is not possible to buy. That would be you Madewell!

Foxy yep I do the same as Shop although I haven't braved the washing machine yet. I ruined a Stella jumper, so I've gone back to hand wash in sink and then roll and lay flat. I need to do the orange mnv and the grey I&I. Eek. Good luck.

I had a second interview today. I wore pale Sandro mini, white shirt, snakeskin flats Hobbs mustardy fine knit and Bruno tweed. I am SO pleased I kept the Hobbs after all that. It wasn't the bright colour I wanted but I actually love it with the tweed and snakeskin. Lots of muted browny tones together.

I was pleased with the interview and my outfit but not sure the job is for me. Can you see a theme developing yet? grin (Clothes / break / silence -> all good, but I'm going for freelance so can put up with a slightly wrong role for a while but they inevitably ask if I will do permanent which I don't actually want.)

Evening all....empty house,it's bliss!!!and so peaceful!

I'm such an idiot...forgot to leave redelivery note out for the Whistles dress! Noooooooooo.

Grumpy I can vouch for the fabulousness of those Gap sweaters, I bought the black and mint. Great basics, great quality too.
Carrie74 Banana Republic trousers are great for work...I have 2 pairs and they're tough!
sleep did you see mrSanta?
Hopefully love those trainers, they would look cool with khaki too. I agree about Cos, I know everyone loves it but the scary models on the website leave me cold, and at barely 5ft3 it all looks like a sack on me....like you I need fitted.
Shop love the teal dress, one of my fav colours....and the new photo, great dress!

santamarianovella Mon 29-Apr-13 19:38:26

Hi,all
Had a busy day.
hope you arrived safely * sleep*,I told DH that one of MNV team might have been on his flight ,he said that I should have sent him a clue so he and his mate can play spot the mumsneter grin.

paris that skort is lovely, and love the sound of all white.
You looked so cute shop ,you must have been a very stylish toddler!
That gap combo is nice carrie very in season .mixing different patterns is not easy but that combination works.
marsha your outfit sounds very chic.im dying to know what sort of work you do!
Foxy after the silly dry cleaners ruined an incredibly soft cashmere sweater. I Bought the laundress wool and cashmere shampoo, and fabric fresh and wash them by hand in a basin and lay them to dry flat, had no problem, and the shampoo last forever.had it since last year.

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Mon 29-Apr-13 20:02:11

Thanks Carrie and Santa. I have been looking for something like that for a while so I can shamelessly copy my girl crush Christine Centenera. As for the all white look, lets hope I don't throw my dinner or red wine over it!

OneLittle Thanks for the lipstick recommendation. For £1 it's definately worth a punt!

Marsha I made the mistake of looking on Le Catch. That is just my sort of blog. I also waste hours on TheyAllHateUs. They don't list where stuff is from so I end up searching and searching! Your outfit sounds great too, I love brown and muted tones but they don't love me sadly.

DryWhite I am also 5ft 3 and every so often I try on something beautifully 'wafty' but never buy it as I'm not tall enough to carry it off.

Gorgeous bras too Foxy. I'll have to head over to the bra measuring threads before I buy. I've always found buying bras so frustrating.

Hi everyone, I saw someone who may have been mrSanta but figured that I would probably terrify the poor bloke if I went up to him and started jabbering about renovations, managing kids without DH support and Chloe flats, whether he was the right man or not grin. I could have given you a clue for him to spot me though, I have pistachio green toes - they are vile, a very bad impulsive choice for pedi on Friday. I look like I'm getting ready for Halloween grin!

Love your new profile pic shop, v cute!

My creamy white eBay jbrand 811's were waiting for me when I got back this morning, they are great. V pleased for £55, brand new too smile

Really looking forward to MU on 18th, the one just gone sounds like a lot of fun grin

Need to catch up on links after bedtime routine no.3, lovely to be back with DC's smile. Back later!

Hopefully Mon 29-Apr-13 20:19:02

Ooh, speaking of toes, I am on a mission to find some really bright/neon/acid green nail varnish. I have decided I need some. Any recs?

shopafrolic Mon 29-Apr-13 20:24:58
shopafrolic Mon 29-Apr-13 20:30:18

Can I just point out I don't own it! I just googled...... Too brave a colour choice for me!

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Mon 29-Apr-13 20:39:16

Not a colour I would've considered but she looks great.

Orly

Essie

shopafrolic Mon 29-Apr-13 20:40:55

The tan is a necessity I think! Hence not for me!

My head is hurting from reading the mumsy thread....well said Amber. I really don't understand why people get so uppity on some threads, it's not meant to be personal...sometimes MN sounds a bit DM to me -- I can't think of anything better, myself, than dressing up in nice clothes and makeup and looking ok--

One day I'll get the crossing out to work!!

AndiMac Mon 29-Apr-13 21:24:24

Got my chinos today and tried them on. Haven't taken them off since! Lovely soft material, with a bit of elastic give in them for extra comfort. A bit heavy for proper warm weather, but with spring again offering wind and sleet, just right!

Unfortunately the tops I ordered with it weren't so great. And with it still not that warm, I'm looking for a sweater to wear with them that can double out as outside wear. I'm pretty busty on top, so high necks can be a bit matronly on me. Any suggestions for a spring-like sweater?

I handwash my cashmere, but I do then spin it on the (very gentle) wool spin cycle. I did dry clean it all once - was moving house, so rather than pack it all up I took it to the dry cleaners and got them to do me a bulk discount.

Andi Are you looking for V-necks then? There are lots of woolies going on ebay as people list their winter jumpers.

QueenCadbury Mon 29-Apr-13 21:46:23

I'm losing patience with the mumsy thread. The arguments start out quite amusing but quickly turn bitchy.

Haven't had chance to have a proper look at all the links although I do love that gap sweater that was linked to (maybe one for you andi)?

My new bras arrived today and I am now the proud owner of 30f rather than 32e norks! Although I was started on the pill last week (by gynae for endometriosis) and I feel like I've got pregnant boobs that are swollen and painful so hoping that I don't grow out of them. At least dh is happy with these even if he does hate the red lippy wink grin.

MrsRadicchio Mon 29-Apr-13 21:47:57

Hi all,

Lots going on here!

Shop I hear you on the toddler tantrums (I think our DS's are a similar age, mine is 2.9) Yesterday DS surpassed himself and spat in MIL's eye shock though she is now acting as though he is some kind of feral child!

Like the look of the Me&em dresses, had never heard of them before coming onto MN.

I like the trainers hopefully - can you link once you have them, and alternatives you looked at? Like your bertie flats too, I was looking at a Sam edelman pair a while ago but they sold out after I linked them on here...retailers should pay us comission!

Am also in the "red lips look chic" camp, though am only starting to experiment with lipstick. I like those revlon lip butters, just bought a redish one that I think looks good. QueenC I think Liberty speaks a lot of sense about why your DH might be being negative about the red lipstick.

Carrie I like your purchases, especially the bright ones.

QueenCadbury Mon 29-Apr-13 21:49:03

Meant to add that if washing cashmere/delicates use these. I've had too many items fall out of pillow cases in the machine but these keep them securely zipped in.

QueenCadbury Mon 29-Apr-13 21:52:32

I agree, I think liberty was definately talking sense (thanks liberty) Didn't have a chance to say that last night as dc3 woke up screaming the place down. Ended up having to sleep with her so have been in a sleep deprived coma all day. And yet, I'm still up and on MN...

AndiMac Mon 29-Apr-13 22:02:29

Travelin good idea to check eBay, that hadn't crossed my mind.

Will look back for the Gap sweater, thanks QueenC

libertychick Mon 29-Apr-13 22:32:50

<Nods and agrees with MrsR and *QueenC that I am very wise and sage and should always be listened to very carefully> smile

Ohhh love the idea of neon trainers Hopefully and find it hilarious that you have made the leap from ‘will I be able to rock daytime trainers?’ to going for a neon version in a matter of days!

Carrie I love your Gap purchases – the trousers especially. Dare you to wear them together even if just around the house grin

I wash cashmere and silk on the silk cycle on my machine with woolite and some fabric softener and then I do a very short, lowest setting spin and dry flat on a towel (or with silk, hang it over the bath on a hanger). So far no disasters. Might be daft but I always pop things on me when wet to make sure it hasn’t shrunk…I do look like a mad women though pulling wet jumpers on and off in the kitchen.

Andimac This is the Gap sweater to save going back and there is a V-neck version too. Quick question on the chinos – for people between sizes would you recommend going up or down?

Hello all, I forgot just how fast this thread moves, the sheep household has been struck down with a lovely bug so no time for MN or fashion....or even really getting out of our pj's....

To celebrate a return to fighting fitness I have ordered the Zarita in both navy and nude plus this scarf as I had a discount code from matches for spend £300 save £100 on DVF so I thought rude not to take advantage!! Also got free next day delivery so even more exciting....I can feel more matches orders coming on to take advantage of this!!!

Nice MrsSheep....glad all better now

Hopefully Tue 30-Apr-13 06:49:59

I know Liberty! My style needs a bit of edge to work, and it became apparent that plain old trainers weren't going to work, they needed to be 'more'. And I am deeply in love with the neon trend.

Thanks for all nail varnish links! Exactly what I was hoping for. Will check in town later for any of those, and order online otherwise.

Pants, DS2 is up. Laters...

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 07:56:51

<whispers> lots of Acne on Brand Alley this morning!

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Tue 30-Apr-13 09:50:45

Love the DVF dress MrsS. Especially the nude one.

I am only fantasy shopping here but what do you think nice or naff?

Hopefully Tue 30-Apr-13 10:16:38

Some nice Sam Edelman sandals on The Outnet this morning but they don't go up to my huge size. I have however just jumped onto the Havaiana bandwagon - lots of colours in the slimmer fit here, and various prices - the ones I've gone for were £13.99.

MrsRadicchio Tue 30-Apr-13 10:21:22

I like it Paris. I love these trousers in the same range. I really have a soft spot for leather harem trousers hmm

Doing some mindless browsing while DS2 naps...

These shoes look nice, well made, good option for the workers amongst us? I love the pink loafers but don't think I'd get any wear out of them.

MrsRadicchio Tue 30-Apr-13 10:22:09

Markus Lupfer stuff on secret sales too. A lot sold out, mind.

Those loafers are frigging awesome MrsR - I want the monochrome!

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 11:46:55

Remind me ladies - if I'm a 40 in Ash and a UK 7 / 7.5 will I fit a US10 in Sam Edelman?

Annianni Tue 30-Apr-13 11:55:15

I'm a 6 in ash shop and a us9 in SE

Decameron Tue 30-Apr-13 12:10:44

I'm a EU40 and a US9.5, Shop.

Lovely dresses, Sheep. I have that scarf in another colourway, love DVF scarves. Matches didn't send me that code, the rats!

Hope DD is better now, QueenC.

noviceoftheday Tue 30-Apr-13 12:37:33

Afternoon all! Lying by pool on shady bit as its 32 deg. I had my first bit of proper me time in years with a half day spa session. Boy the masseuse worked those knots!shock glad I didn't go for this massage when we first arrived else my body would be a wreck.

Today's dress is a halter neck geometric sun dress from Oasis. It's got green, blue black and white bits so I am matching that with accessories. A shell that's been painted turquoise and strung on necklace, Accessorize turquoise and white bracelet and then green dangly earrings. Steel watch, ankle bracelet and havianas too. Overall very high street today.smile

Decameron, glad to hear your dd is better.

foxysocks Tue 30-Apr-13 12:59:41

i'm a 5/38 and a US8 in SE

QueenCadbury Tue 30-Apr-13 13:59:38

dec she's fine thanks. A few spots on her face developed yesterday so I thought she may be getting chickenpox but no more so obviously not. Glad to hear your dc is better now too.

Popped to the shops today as dd needed new shoes. She's very happy with her new shiny trainers with flashing lights. Tried on the fatface top that you all hated and god, you were all right, it was hideous. The epitome of mumsiness wink. Glad I bought the jaegar even if I'm still feeling guilty at the price! Nothing else really caught my eye which is good as I have dm, dh and dd's birthday coming up. I've set myself the challenge of buying dm 60 presents (she'll be 60). I bought dh 40 last year which was hard enough so not sure I'll manage it. Hope they both put this much effort into my big one later in the year grin.

pickledsiblings Tue 30-Apr-13 14:07:20

Ha ha Queen about the Fatface top. Bet you feel better now about your Jaeger one. I went for a mooch around Liberty on Sunday and could quite happily shop in there for all my needs. OMG the shoes, the clothes <swoon>. Sadly I am not a rich Russian.

Hopefully Tue 30-Apr-13 14:09:48

QueenC maybe just one for every decade...

Right, need to go to town. Will remember my wallet this time...

Annianni Tue 30-Apr-13 14:27:01

We have lovely sunshine finally grin

Been to the stables to visit my cousin's new horse, which ds2 loved.
And then a visit to the zoo.
But he wanted carrying most of the way round, so my back's sore now.
But I got to wear my lovely new Whistles neon sweatshirt and I had my ankles out, which was nice.

The pewter zatchel arrived this morning and my first thought was that I should have ordered the silver sad

But it is nice, it's big enough for my enormous purse, babywipes etc.
And it did look nice with today's outfit of grey top, jeans and taupe Virgo's.
So silver might have been a bit too much, as I usually wear silver jewellery.

I'll try it tomorrow with a couple of outfits and decide then.

Now can people please stop linking nice things... I didn't want to spend anything this month, but I've ordered that grey Gap sweater, the fuchsia one, 2 cardigans and some grey ballet flats (had a 20% off code) grin

Hurray the Whistles dress has arrived and, if I thought the Coast one was flattering, this one is bloody miraculous. So I've decided to return the Coast and keep the Bella from Whistles because;

I love blues and greens
It's not too summery
It makes me look thin
It's £60 cheaper
I listened to Grumpys comment about bumping into someone wearing the same dress ( I'd look better wink!!)

So Grumps you know what I'll be wearing so you can do a MN stealth stalk a la Sleep with *MrSanta this week.....I'll be the one at the bar wink.

Annianni Tue 30-Apr-13 14:30:25

Has anyone seen a neon coral scarf on their travels?
I think i need one.
But not too £££ please smile

Annianni Tue 30-Apr-13 14:32:17

And what was that coral nail varnish I've seen somewhere?

It's either on pin, or all worn out... I think...

MrsRadicchio Tue 30-Apr-13 14:53:44

I have this scarf anni - I think it is a little brighter in the flesh. Really like it, but it is more of a winter weight scarf I would say. Or English spring grin

MarshaBrady Tue 30-Apr-13 14:59:48

Santa just the thinking part before the creative part starts in creative industry. Well if I went for the right role! I must admit I do love interviews and breaking out of my standard wardrobe. Bit more spice grin.

Paris I love that one too.

Sleep so funny. Imagine.

AndiMac they sound great.

Queen that mumsy thread is same old, same old, topic comes up all the time. Makes me love this one even more. That is so funny about the Fatface one.

MrsSheep excellent! Will you keep both or choose one? Report back smile

Pickled I love Liberty. Have a voucher, luckily it lasts forever.

Well done Dry love the Whistles.

Anni ah really, but glad you still like the pewter.

So nice to have sunny days again. In floral C/E skinnies. Still love them even though they are old news these days.

MarshaBrady Tue 30-Apr-13 15:00:22

That's a nice scarf MrsR.

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 15:31:02

Oh Queen I'm glad the Fat Face one was awful - I felt a bit guilty at the time! I shouldn't have dithered on the Sam Edelman's - I wanted these but they've sold out in my size. sad

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 15:41:57

And now I know I can't have them i reaaaaalllllly want them. Cue tantrum.

Annianni Tue 30-Apr-13 15:46:07

Shop, look in the clearance bit on asos. Think those shoes are there too.

Annianni Tue 30-Apr-13 15:49:00

That scarf is lovely MrsR, but something in a lighter weight would be good.

Great news on the dress Drywhite.

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 15:54:05

Unfortunately not Anni I just checked. If anyone sees them on their travels at a bargainous price can you let me know? thanks

Annianni Tue 30-Apr-13 15:57:54

Will do.
Do you want a us10?

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 16:11:43

Yup. Can't believe I got distracted and then they'd gone!
This has arrived Levi's dress It's really quite nice but I'm not sure. I think it's the shock of seeing my legs (which are glowing white!)
I took the leather string belt off and tried it with a leather belt and it looked quite good - just a nice basic day to day dress (which is exactly what I was after) - nothing wow though. I think I'll wait until the Me&em dresses arrive and then decide which to keep and which to send back. I sometimes wish I had one of you with me for trying on sessions so you could say yes or NO!!!!

Keep your eyes peeled on the Back in Stock section shop, sometimes items will pop back up as they are returned!

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 16:18:35

Thanks Amber will do - loving the necklace today!

Annianni Tue 30-Apr-13 16:27:01

Dh has been home for 10 minutes and hasn't noticed the Whistles sweatshirt yet.

So maybe the grey theory works grin

Hopefully Tue 30-Apr-13 16:33:11

Anni I saw the Nails Inc neon coral nail varnish in town this morning, it looked really good. It's faintly possible that I bought the neon green that Shop kindly linked yesterday. And also possibly the neon yellow too. I loved the coral, but felt that two neon nail varnishes was pushing the bounds of respectability enough. My poor clients on Saturday are going to be traumatised enough!

Speaking of neon (do I speak of much else at the moment?), my trainers arrived and they are amazing. And very neon. I went for these ones, but they are nothing like that colour in real life (which I was banking on, after seeing images elsewhere online). They are more like they are shown here, and possibly even brighter than that. They are very neon.

On the bright side, between the nails and the trainers, I'm not going to get lost in the gloom any time soon...

Oh, and if anyone's interested, the other main trainer contenders were these quite restrained ones but the colours were wrong for me (I could have pulled off charcoal, but not that pale grey, wouldn't go with anything I own at all), these hint of neon ones (which I am still tempted by because they look bloody comfy!) and these very neon ones which were front runners apart from the all-white sole, which annoyed me enormously.

Shop that dress is a fab autumn colour. My legs are terrifyingly white at the moment. I kind of match my off-white jeans. I love those gables too, but I am beginning to think they don't actually go up to my size - UK8 (US11) as I have never ever seen any Sam Edelman shoes in that size. Might start a thread...

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 16:50:33

Hopefully the dress is an exact match to my swatches. And I do really love it. I think I've just been in skinnies for too long so I'm not used to seeing my horrible legs poking out.
I love the Me&em shift in a similar colour but if I'm honest then this Levis dress is probably more appropriate to life right now. So it's probably a keeper with a different belt.

Hopefully Tue 30-Apr-13 16:52:08

Shop are you a UK 7 or 8, just out of interest?

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 17:03:07

UK 7.5 ish Hopefully - left foot bigger than right.....
In Ash I wear a 40, but some shoes I own are a UK8 so I really vary...

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 17:04:14

DH is off to the States on Sunday for 5 days! That leaves me all alone in charge of toddler terror! He says he will have time to shop! Not sure what to put on my list!?

Hopefully Tue 30-Apr-13 17:04:37

lol, just wondering because a pair of the yellow gables popped up on ASOS in an 8 for £60 so I've ordered them, but wondered if it was worth letting you know if they were too small/narrow etc.

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 17:06:34

Didn't you want these ones Hopefully? Am thinking they might work better with the Levis dress? And they have free shipping? Has anyone bought from this site before? Are there hidden costs I don't know about?
shop.nordstrom.com/s/sam-edelman-gable-sandal/3236944?origin=category&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=&resultback=2537

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 17:10:11

Scrap that - it says free shipping but then later not to the UK. So they'd be £100. Might get DH to hunt them down while he's there.....

Hopefully Tue 30-Apr-13 17:12:55

I do really want the orange, but can't find anywhere in my size for cheap enough to warrant. Figure at least I can try the yellows on and check sizing!

Hopefully Tue 30-Apr-13 17:14:26

Am so perplexed by Sam Edelman sizing - they reckon an 8 is either a US10 or US11, but also that a US10 is a size 40. Sigh.

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 17:21:29

Mmmm. I just saw that too. V confusing.

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 17:23:33

Let me know if the ASOS ones don't work out for you. Glad the neon green polish ticked the boxes for you!

Hopefully Tue 30-Apr-13 17:26:34

Is so confusing. Will be peeved if US10 turns out to be right, as I could have Outnetted this morning.

santamarianovella Tue 30-Apr-13 17:42:26

just send him to j.crew shop!ohh and ask him to get you the madewell leopard flats!

shop I love the Levi's dress, great colour, get some Johnsons on your legs and it will look fab!

I've just been handed down(up?) some black converse trainers from DD grin, I'm going to copy
this but with red blazer or Chanelesque cheapo......

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 18:29:06

My first thought when you said that Dry was "Babywipes? Why would I put babywipes on my legs?"
grin

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 18:29:50

Good call Santa

carrie74 Tue 30-Apr-13 18:30:03

I wear a 39/6.5 usually, and my Sam Edelmans are a US size 9, but I'd say they're cut slightly on the smaller side.

I bought the China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy nail varnish after seeing it on the All Worn Out blog, and it's a fantastic bright neon coral. Unfortunately, I made a right mess on my toenails with it, but it looks fabulous on my 7YO daughter's toes lol!

Hopefully, they look great!!

Banana Republic order arrived, trousers perfect for work, and the ballet flats? FANTASTIC! Very comfy, and a great basic. The Jones nude ones arrived today too, and I love them, but they're slightly uncomfortable, and seeing as they're elasticised, I'm going to change for the next size up I think. They're a great staple. V relieved that I've got some more flats sorted though.

May also have [ahem] ordered these today too. I've been eyeing them up for a while, and with a 20% off code, I thought I'd give them a try. Wsh they were real leather, not patent though, so they may be going back Boden pointy flats

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 18:43:27

Right so there is a Madewell in San Francisco which is where DH will be. So am now going to scour their website and see what's what.....

MarshaBrady Tue 30-Apr-13 18:44:36

Oh yes do it Shop and let us know what it's all like. Fab!

noviceoftheday Tue 30-Apr-13 19:07:04

shop the Westfield shopping centre is huge but also compact. It's where all the major shops are so I would send your dh there with a listgrin. It opens late too and has some decent eateries for sustenance.

foxysocks Tue 30-Apr-13 19:11:40

Oh yes madewell! Pointy leopard flats, chambray boyfriend shirt. Also j crew tees!

Carrie let me know what they are like? am also put off a bit by the patent but like the shape and colour

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 19:23:14

Oh yes - who bought J Crew tees? What's the sizing like please?
Thanks for the tip Novice he's not looking impressed at the thought of solo shopping!

MarshaBrady Tue 30-Apr-13 19:30:00

Me! Big I think. The M is big.

MarshaBrady Tue 30-Apr-13 19:31:58

Foxy how was your neon one, was it big for the size or true to size?

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 19:32:05

Is that big in comparison to you Marsha smile or would it fit a 12 on top?

grin at Shop!!!!!!!

MarshaBrady Tue 30-Apr-13 19:33:32

Sorry just realised that was a totally crappy answer! It is big for me. So I'd say should be fine for a 12. I am pretty um small boob-wise.

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 19:41:19

I just have an impression that Marsha is tiny, fabulous and super leggy <no pressure when we meet> grin and I am absolutely none of those

MarshaBrady Tue 30-Apr-13 19:43:55

No nono nonono I have an accent and drink too much. You'll be fine grin

Hopefully Tue 30-Apr-13 19:45:55

Shop I'm afraid she is. Avoid sitting near her if you are remotely paranoid about your thighs. <voice of experience>

Carrie I'm glad your order of workie basics was good - always essential but dull.

I am resisting the urge to parade around in my terrifyingly neon shoes. Between that and the French Connection trousers yesterday DH is starting to look alternatingly hmm and grin at me...

Annianni Tue 30-Apr-13 19:51:24

Fab shopping for MrShop grin
There's a lovely Madewell breton on my pin somewhere.
And someone's pinned a pretty bracelet today from there.

How about new jeans Shop?

Thanks Hopefully, I'll look at that one when I go to Selfridges next.

The one I'd seen was the China Glaze that Carrie's just got... so I've ordered that one.

Also ordered some (sort of) neon-ish Nike trainers, and those Asos Daley's that Grazia Shop suggested recently.

And a Maison Scotch grey and coral scarf grin

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 19:53:13

Marsha I drink too much too! We could be such good friends!
Hopefully grin and I loved your outfit yesterday
Carrie I really liked those nude flats - really useful

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 19:54:28

I'm claiming all if the glory for the Daley's Anni screw you Grazia!

I had an itch that needed scratching regarding converse-esque shoes, so have bought these H&M boys ones. Going to wear them round the house and have a think.

And couldn't resist these not-quite matching ones for DS

MarshaBrady Tue 30-Apr-13 20:00:54

lol Shop on both posts. And too right grin

Hopefully! you looked excellent.

(I have many flaws but not listing them for fear of people zoning in on the bad parts when we meet, then I move fast, drink champagne - or more likely a cheap substitute - and keep talking seems to work! grin)

Travelin they are nice.

MarshaBrady Tue 30-Apr-13 20:08:46

This isn't too expensive for a scarf MaxMara. I like it with the white tee and even the jeans. Scarves are on my not to buy list however as I never wear them.

foxysocks Tue 30-Apr-13 20:33:00

i can't keep up on here!

my j crew tee is a S, i'm an 8 and it's perfect. slouchy. wouldn't go smaller or bigger. mine is a round neck rather than v.

have a matches code so they are front runners for my May spends.

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Tue 30-Apr-13 20:45:57

Marsha I imagine you as tiny and tres elegant. What accent do you have? As for drinking too much, how much is too much? <northern>

I got the MUA pink lipstick, as recommended on here. It's a great colour and I'm wearing it now so I can look in the mirror every so often and get used to it. I don't usually wear lipstick so it's quite out there for me.

Paris, Marsha is tall and willowy envy

I will leave it to her to reveal her accent. grin

MarshaBrady Tue 30-Apr-13 21:18:00

lol! I am not very elegant and definitely not tiny/ petite. Tallish. And my accent will undermine any ideas of polish. I was born in the UK and have lived here for 15 years but the australian accent has stuck like glue. In reverse direction my parents' British accent has stuck like glue for 30 years. Messy-ish blonde hair and freckles (dh just read this and asked if I was on a dating site grin).

Drinking. Well I managed to by pass the lunch part and indulge in pure prosecco. Will be fun!

grin at dating site. I am bigger than I look and talk far too much and too quickly to ever be considered elegant. I aim for intriguing / different. Not sure I would put that on match.com either!

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Tue 30-Apr-13 21:24:18

Isn't it strange how you build a picture of people when you can't see them. I have some very strange pictures of people on Mumsnet, usually based on their usernames!

I want to be tall and willowy so I can buy and wear that leather skirt I linked to earlier without looking like a total nob!

Oh shop marsha and everyone else......fashion and booze, I have found my virtual home !grin

Dress update ( you bored yet?) just shown DH both dresses on and guess what? Those 3 words every woman wants to hear..... " why don't you keep them both?!!!" shock....rude not to grin.....

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 21:31:33

Yay Drywhite
DH and I met online dating. He says I lied on my profile. smile

Ummmmm...that's 5 words isn't it? Jeez ! I meant " keep them both" and I teach little kids numeracy, there's no hope!

MarshaBrady Tue 30-Apr-13 21:40:03

Lol Shop! He meant it in a nice way I hope.

Excellent Dry. They are my favourite words too grin.

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 21:45:13

I definitely didn't mention my partying ways Marsha, but then if I hadn't met him I'd have probably partied myself to death so I should be thankful! He lied about his height so I think we're quits grin

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Tue 30-Apr-13 21:47:57

Good Man Mr Drywhite!

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Tue 30-Apr-13 21:52:29

Shop When I met DH his room was always immaculate when I stayed over. As soon as we moved in together he revealed his true colours as a filthy pig that I have to bitch at on a regular basis to tidy up!

I didn't mention my habit of eating anything in the house that contains sugar, even if it isn't mine

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 21:54:10

Moves biscuits out of Paris' reach

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 21:54:57

Just to say any newbies who have recently joined who fancy joining the London meet up on 18th May send me a PM for details........

QueenCadbury Tue 30-Apr-13 21:59:23

Loving all the chat and purchases. hopefully love the trainers and travel I like those converse-esque ones too.

Have just spent 4h in a&e with dc3 who has a probable fractured leg and now has a plaster on! She's remarkably happy though and sleeping peacefully, bless her.

Tell me lipstick wearers, do your lips get dried out? I've noticed in the past couple of days that mine have got all flaky. What's the best thing to use on them?

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 22:02:03

OMG QueenC your poor DD! That sounds v scary - I hope you're all doing okay. Sounds as though a glass of wine is in order! I use Carmex on my lips every night, seems to help. My lips are in an awful state, I have a terrible habit of picking the skin on them so am expert in all things moisturising!!

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Tue 30-Apr-13 22:02:42

Moves biscuits out of Paris' reach

Not very far then!

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Tue 30-Apr-13 22:03:48

Cross post QueenC. Poor DD sad

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 22:04:10

Are you on my sofa?

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Tue 30-Apr-13 22:07:21

Have your biscuits mysteriously vanished? grin

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 22:07:45

So Madewell have the best customer service ever! They've emailed me details of all store locations en route for DH from airport to office location! He has no excuse! Other than he is starting a new job and shopping for me may not be his number 1 priority.

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 22:08:18

PMSL Paris grin

Yikes, your DD sounds very stoical QC Hope the plaster isn't on for long.

I use carmex at night and slather it on in the morning when I put face moisturiser on. I then apply lipstick with a brush over the top. Don't get dry lips. I wonder if you are licking your more because you are conscious of the lipstick?

Hopefully Tue 30-Apr-13 22:10:36

QueenC your poor DD! when will you know if it is fractured for definite? I have got in the habit of lip balm before bed, and I sometimes apply a small slick of cheap lip balm such as chapstick before reapplying my lipstick during the day. That seems to be enough for me.

My dating ad would read: "Look taller than I am. Occasionally slightly scary and intimidating, but perfectly happy with that state of affairs and not intending to change any time soon. Free with purchase: two slightly grubby children.' grin

Curses, I have a class on the 18th, or I'd love to come.

Oh crap, it's 10pm and I was meant to tidy my office up this evening. there are piles of fabric on every vaguely horizontal surface. Whoops.

QueenC poor DC...kids are amazing though, did she get a coloured plaster? ( up here they call them "pots") hope you are ok too...v stressful taking your child to hospital.
wine

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Tue 30-Apr-13 22:11:36

Shop You are his number one priority and you want shopping, so yes, it is.

My DH is at a work conference in Warwick, feck all he can buy me from there!

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 22:12:42

I always joke that I bought my DH for £12.99 a month for 3 months. Bargain when you think about the tossers I used to date!

QueenCadbury Tue 30-Apr-13 22:21:08

grin at shop getting all the stores en route for dh. Am beginning to feel sorry for the poor man grin

drywhite no cool colour at the moment, just an old fashioned plaster of Paris. We go back to clinic on Thursday when they've reviewed the X-rays properly and if it's a definite fracture she'll get one then which'll stay on 3-4 weeks. She's doing fine-at 22 months they just accept anything. Can't believe I bought her new trainers today though and she may not be able to wear them grin.

Thanks for advice. I'll check out Carmex. travel I don't think I've been licking more than usual but maybe I have. Or maybe dh has sabotaged my lipsticks so I don't ever wear them again...

santamarianovella Tue 30-Apr-13 22:23:43

dryi wish DH would say these magic words to me.
shop i never would have though you were the partying kind at all, you always sound so calm and sensible.
paris i wish i was taller too,i feel like a little girl next to DH and all his family.

QueenCadbury Tue 30-Apr-13 22:24:28

Just got an email from office and am loving these sandals. Pity I don't need them.

shopafrolic Tue 30-Apr-13 22:30:29

Santa I am calmer and a bit sensible now! But in my younger days I was a 24 hour party person. In fact sometimes 72 hours. Do I really come across as calm and sensible? How very dull! smile

Parisisalwaysagoodidea Tue 30-Apr-13 22:37:20

Nice shoes Queen. Especially the name!

Santa I am taller than all the females in DH's family by 1/2 inch as they are teeny.

In the real world however, it is very different. I was wearing my new 4.3inch heels at a party on saturday, feeling rather tall. Party hostess came to say hello. She complimented me on my shoes and said 'I bet you tower over me in those' (she was wearing trainers). I stood up so I could tower over her.

I so didn't tower over her.

She laughed and said 'You don't look it from a distance but you really are short aren't you!' I replied 'Oh, yes, I suppose I am thanks for pointing it out to me and a room full of strangers you bint

santamarianovella Tue 30-Apr-13 22:41:35

queen your poor DD,i hope its not fractured.paris DH is a neat freak, his place was spotless,it was like no one lived there, now not so much.i caught him and DD this afternoon munching walkers chips on the bed. made me angry.
i would love to come to the meet up,but we will be away that weekend first proper short break as a whole family in nearly six months.
