I got talked into buying this today. <gullible emoticon>

It's a bit pricey...eek! I don't know whether I should return it!

Has anybody tried this and what did/do you think?

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Sun 21-Apr-13 22:54:55

This lady seems to like it...hmm might give it a try.

I'll test it for you guys in the name of beauty.

squoosh Sun 21-Apr-13 23:41:22

It's really expensive for a product made of cheapo mineral oil.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Mon 22-Apr-13 16:17:43

Yes, it is expensive. I don't mind if it does what it claims to do, though! I went to buy the Beauty Flash Balm, as that is a favourite of mine, but the assistant said that this serum is much better and explained the anti-aging effect and that the luminousity you get stays with you all the time, even when you wash your face, unlike the BFB.

She said it's overtaken Beauty Flash Balm as their no. 1 selling product and she'd give me a 30ml Beauty Flash Balm if I bought the serum. I went to another store with a Clarins department and explained I had bought the serum elsewhere and was having cold feet. She said that if she had to choose between the BFB and the serum she would definitely go for the serum. I was definitely surprised, because I love BFB, and a friend of mine I let try a bit before a night out was wowed by it too.

Anyway, I used the serum for the first time last night (you use it once a day and that can be morning or night) and I'm already failing as a beauty product reviewer! Today my skin looks really glowy and radiant, but I put BFB on under my makeup this morning so I don't know which product to attribute that to...doh! Probably the BFB, as Clarins say you will see results in 7 days with the serum.

Will update again tomorrow without contaminating the results by using BFB as well!

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Mon 06-May-13 20:44:49

Today the lady threading my eyebrows asked me what foundation I used. She said: "It's very good...makes you look very glowy. Did you use anything underneath it?"

I've never had anybody ask me what foundation I use, and usually this threading lady doesn't make conversation with me.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Mon 06-May-13 20:46:49

I need to confess that although I have been using the double serum once a day, I have not bothered to cleanse my face before going to bed a couple of times this week. The threading lady's compliment has helped snap me back into it, as my skin is looking good and it's stupid not to do it properly.

WarmFuzzyFun Mon 06-May-13 20:55:55

So, are you using both the Serum and the BFB? Which cleanser?

I have just ordered the BFB and the Clarins all in one cleanser. Thought about the Serum, but the price is prohibitive...but will be interest to hear of your results.

BFB has had a lot of great reviews, and one of my MNer mates (great beauty she is grin) told me her

coffeeinbed Mon 06-May-13 21:00:45

I wanted it badly, but the mineral oil is bothering me, so I won't.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Mon 06-May-13 21:17:34

I didn't use the BFB today.

I've not used it much lately because my skin is looking as though I've used it. I can see why the assistants were raving about this thing. I think I will only use BFB when I'm going out and want to knock 'em dead! ;0)

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Mon 06-May-13 21:18:48

Sorry, I use the Clinique 3 step products, but the anti-blemish range as I broke out something terrible a couple of years ago and that was the only thing that got rid of the spots.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Mon 06-May-13 21:19:20

What do you mean about the mineral oil, coffee?

coffeeinbed Mon 06-May-13 21:52:50

it's been reformulated.
They now use cheap mineral oil instead of the plant ones they used to.
Some people don't mid it - Bio Oil is basically mineral oil, I'm not comfortable putting it on my face.
I realise I probably am using it in other products without realising, though and that I might be a bit precious. blush

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Mon 06-May-13 22:14:13

Hmm. That's not good...are you saying putting Bio Oil on my face every night could have the same effect?!

And to think I used to think Bio Oil was I'm contemplating it as a cheaper option hmm

coffeeinbed Mon 06-May-13 22:21:00

well, not quite.
I'm sure Clarins Serum has lots of active ingredients, which are very different to Bio Oil.
It's just the carrier - mineral oil that's the same.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Mon 06-May-13 22:23:50

So why has it put you off? it seems to work. Unless I'm just going through a pretty phase! wink

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Mon 24-Jun-13 20:35:45

Bought my second bottle last week as I can't live without this stuff now. Make me look luminous. Thoroughly recommend, and yes, it is better than the hallowed Clarins Beauty Flash Balm!

MaeMobley Mon 24-Jun-13 20:49:28

Hiya, I am tempted by this serum.

Coffeeinbed, is mineral oil a bad thing?

ggirl Mon 24-Jun-13 20:51:59

ingredient list ; Katafray bark extract, hyaluronic acid : moisturising.
Organic perilla and macadamia oils: nourish the skin.
Organic quinoa and green tea extract: protective action.
Maritime pine extract, organic rosehip oil: oxygenise the skin.
Organic green banana extract, thyme and bocoa: regenerating action.

is there mineral oil in those ingredients disguised as something else?

mirai Tue 25-Jun-13 02:47:38

I got talked into buying this too and didn't realise til I was paying how expensive it was. She did give me a free gift bag though with lots of samples in... Even so... Am looking forward to trying it out!!!

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Tue 25-Jun-13 08:50:05

Mirai, you'll love it I promise!

Come back and let us know how you're doing in a week!

peasandlove Tue 25-Jun-13 09:45:24

I tested this last week, only wore it the one day though. The cost is also what puts me off, will keep watching this thread

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Tue 25-Jun-13 15:15:06

peas I've bought a second bottle because I'm getting to the bottom of the jar and I definitely don't want to run out. So, its lasted over two months now.

Will let you guys know when it runs out.

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong Tue 25-Jun-13 15:19:59

Oh god. I'm going to do that sheep thing again. I can feel it.

When we say ££££s, how many exactly are we talking? <winces in readiness>

Ilisten2theradio Tue 25-Jun-13 15:30:01

I found that after a week of continuous use my face felt sore.

mrsspongebob Tue 25-Jun-13 16:45:40

bollocks. i walked away from this earlier today as it is £55 a bottle. now wondering if i should get it from boots as at least i will get points.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Tue 25-Jun-13 19:29:35

Jump in, know you waaaant to! The water feels greeeaat!!! wink.

mirai Tue 25-Jun-13 23:54:31

Right first impressions I must say are not good because... It leaks. When I got home from the shop and took it out of its packaging I could tell it had leaked a little, unfortunately however I couldn't take it back to the shop as I was travelling the next day. While travelling I made sure it was upright in my bag the whole way, got to my destination and I've lost a good cm of product from the jar. Reeeeeally annoyed but I can't do a thing about it.

Anyway I shall update once I've actually used the product for a few days!!

lollylaughs Wed 26-Jun-13 08:59:28

I don't understand how it leaked? It has a pump action with a lid on? I think you may have a faulty bottle...

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Wed 26-Jun-13 09:40:21

mirai take it back. You've definitely got a faulty bottle there.

peasandlove Thu 27-Jun-13 10:25:56

ok i bought this today, the Clarins guy nabbed me (I work in a dept store!) and waved a totally awesome gift with purchase package with full sized products in it, so it would have been rude not to get it!

Feathercroft Thu 27-Jun-13 15:14:58

I've just bought Aloe nourishing serum, found out about it through facial lady...smells gorgeous, contains white tea extract. Costs £33 lasts for at least 3months so is a fab buy. It's to maintain youthful skin etc..recommend.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Thu 18-Jul-13 00:55:06

Doh! Forgot to note when my first bottle finished. Was about a week ago.

Anyway...I went a few days of not taking my make up off at night, and hence not using the serum (as I only use it at night), and my skin noticeably deteriorated. Used it for two days and I'm gorgeous again.

Can't recommend this stuff enough.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Tue 23-Jul-13 03:17:26

Why isn't anybody updating? I so expected you guys to be raving about it once you tried it!!

centralmum Tue 23-Jul-13 08:05:24

I have been using it for about 2 weeks. I wouldn't say my skin is glowing but it is improved. I can happily wear no makeup if I choose. I suppose my skin just looks better. Will keep using it.

coffeeinbed Tue 23-Jul-13 08:34:01

here is a full list of the ingredients

Hydro Serum (0.5 ounce) Water, Glycerin, Tapioca Starch, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Sodium PCA, Sodium Hydroxide, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Pinus Pinaster Bark Extract, Xanthan Gum, Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Extract, Tetrasodium Edta, Centella Asiatica Extract, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Citric Acid, Hydrolyzed Sisymbrium Irio Seedcake, Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Fruit Extract, Codium Tomentosum Extract, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-2, Dextran, Potassium Sorbate Lipo Serum (0.5 ounce) Isononyl Isononanoate, Isododecane, Paraffinum Liquidium (Mineral Oil), Hydrogenated Styrene/Isoprene Copolymer, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Bisabolol, Sclerocarya Birrea Oil, Fragrance, Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Seed Oil, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil Unsaponifiables, Tocopheryl Acetate, Diethylhexyl Adipate, Salicornia Herbacea Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, BHT

the one on the Clarins website is not comprehensive, they focus on the ones that they think will sell.

I'm glad to hear it's working for some, I'm still not happy to put mineral oil on my face, when I can avoid it and for that price.

I do use other Clarins products, so am not in any way biased agains them.

shinytoe Tue 23-Jul-13 12:45:24

What's wrong with mineral oil?

coffeeinbed Tue 23-Jul-13 16:38:14

It does nothing for you.
It makes the skin feel temporarily smooth, but has no benefits for it. It's used mostly because it's cheap, consistent in quality and long lasting and easy to buy.
A better alternative would be plant oils - which are expensive, vary in quality by supplier, get rancid and so on.

It's pretty much the old butter/margarine debate, except in cosmetic terms.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Mon 29-Jul-13 19:03:52

Tbh I'd pay £100 for the effect it gives me! And yes, it IS temporary, because when I've been naughty for a few days not using it my skin goes back to ordinary.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep Sun 08-Sep-13 22:01:52

Hmm, my glow seems to have disappeared. I've not been that great at sticking to my twice daily cleansing and toning regime, but I HAVE been using the serum at least once a day. This tells me it must be the combination of the two that was doing it, not just the serum.

FloraFoxley Sun 08-Sep-13 22:20:42

I'm a self professed beauty junkie and have recently finished a bottle of this.

It's ... Ok. Nothing more than that really. I'm fanatical about my beauty regime and I'd use the double serum after the Blue Orchid Oil ( now this is good stuff !! ) and before my moisturiser. I used it all so it must have been alright but I wasn't wowed by it and I think there's better out there for the price.

I'm currently using Philosophy Full of Promise duo serum which is similar in price at £52 but I feel the ingredients are more powerful.
