OK, I know some people don't bother but, for those that do, what pants do you wear under gym wear?

What do you wear under tight capri length leggings type gym wear.

I just can't go commando, doesn't seem (or feel) right but on the other hand VPL bothers me. I don't do thongs either.

Is there such a thing as cotton, non-VPL big pants that don't end up in the wrong place IYSWIM?

BIWI Sun 21-Apr-13 20:57:07

I can't go commando either! I wear black pants. Not especially big ones, but they dont give me too much of a VPL - not that I really bother about that too much!

EleanorFarjeon Sun 21-Apr-13 21:01:52

All of my running tights/capris have a proper gusset, it wouldn't occur to me to wear pants as well.

Abzs Sun 21-Apr-13 21:02:53

Wicking pants, not cotton.

I like Lowe Alpine dryflo.

dexter73 Sun 21-Apr-13 21:07:34

I just wear whatever pants I have on at the time. VPL doesn't bother me.

NorbertDentressangle Sun 21-Apr-13 21:07:38

Abzs - I just google to see what they are. Do you mean this sort of thing? They seem a bit...er, big! (even by my standards grin)

Meglet Sun 21-Apr-13 21:10:49

A thong, they don't get rucked up. <Unhelpful>

NorbertDentressangle Sun 21-Apr-13 21:11:43

Noooooo! Not a thong!

The chafing! <wince>

I wear big light control M&S pants

ifancyashandy Sun 21-Apr-13 21:16:23

Cotton thong here too. No chaffing ever been experienced.

NorbertDentressangle Sun 21-Apr-13 21:20:20

ilovepowerhoop - are they high waisted and/or shorts in style?

I'm thinking that because I wear bog standard M&S bikini brief style pants then maybe I'm not doing myself any favours as you see the VPL on both the leg and top IYSWIM.

If they were high waisted and shorts length then I guess I'd avoid the VPL on bum cheeks and top of briefs??

BIWI Sun 21-Apr-13 21:25:58

I am not ever, ever, going to go commando underneath my gym shorts/leggings. Imagine if the seams split?!

NorbertDentressangle Sun 21-Apr-13 21:28:14

shock - its just not worth the risk is it BIWI?!

BIWI Sun 21-Apr-13 21:32:53

Absolutely not. Especially as my trainer is a 24 yo young man!

I have some like this. I need the high waist as powerhooping makes pants fall down a bit and I hate when they end up under my overhang!!

daisydoodoo Sun 21-Apr-13 21:41:42

Seam free m&s pants. Cant go commando when running or exercising just feels yuck.

what about something like these?

daisydoodoo Sun 21-Apr-13 21:44:46

No vpl they are called if you search m&s they do a range of different ones.

NorbertDentressangle Sun 21-Apr-13 21:45:21

I think the problem with a lot of those big pants though is the fact they seem to be largely man-made fibres and scream 'sweaty' and 'thrush inducing' !

Chandon Sun 21-Apr-13 21:46:42

Sloggi do perfect non vpl cotton ones, they last for years, do not lose their shape and do not give you a wedgie.

Chandon Sun 21-Apr-13 21:48:50
CointreauVersial Sun 21-Apr-13 21:49:32

I have some plain black boyshorts that I wear under my running capris. They are comfy, and no VPL.

MirandaWest Sun 21-Apr-13 21:52:38

I wear whatever pair I get out of the drawer first <helpful>

Zoomania Sun 21-Apr-13 21:54:29

I have some great seam-free Sloggi ones. They have never seen a gym though! Great for no VPL.

PastaBeeandCheese Sun 21-Apr-13 21:56:01

Plain cotton M&S thong. Ugliest thing you've ever seen but perfect for under running trousers.

LadyMountbatten Sun 21-Apr-13 21:57:44

Have you ever seen seams spilt ? I haven't in 10 years at the gym

LadyMountbatten Sun 21-Apr-13 21:58:54

I'd suggest pants make you chafe more.

At spin I look at arses a lot. The pants wearers are very small in number

Chandon Sun 21-Apr-13 22:01:14
NorbertDentressangle Sun 21-Apr-13 22:04:48

"At spin I look at arses a lot. The pants wearers are very small in number"

grin PMSL at you looking at arses a lot! Also though, have you considered that maybe they are wearing pants . In fact they are wearing the pants that I want...the ones that look as if you aren't wearing pants.

Next time, ask them which ones they are! Please. grin

NorbertDentressangle Sun 21-Apr-13 22:05:54

Chandon - those look like the sort of thing I'm looking for I think.

mercibucket Sun 21-Apr-13 22:10:44

omg, people dont wear knickers under their gym shorts? shock

BIWI Sun 21-Apr-13 22:12:45

No chafing here.

No seams split yet.

But not a risk I want to take grin

Sainsbos cotton 5pack cheaply at £4/pack. Useless & fugly for anything other than gym blush

Murraylover Sun 21-Apr-13 22:17:55

Ps midi

aPseudonymToFoolHim Sun 21-Apr-13 22:18:26

I wear the no vpl shorts from Sainsburys or asda, they are about 3quid a pair/3 pairs for 7quid.
I work in a fitness environment so wear them everyday, they are very comfortable and invisible

aPseudonymToFoolHim Sun 21-Apr-13 22:21:34

lady someone in my class once had the misfortune to have a split seam. She didn't seem to notice, so I had to go and tell her blush

GemmaTeller Sun 21-Apr-13 22:21:39

Seam free M&S ones in black

peasandlove Mon 22-Apr-13 10:34:21

i always wear seam free pants

Whitecat Mon 22-Apr-13 11:39:56

M&S no VPL on size larger. Perfect

Whitecat Mon 22-Apr-13 11:40:26

one size larger.

Branleuse Mon 22-Apr-13 11:41:57

cotton m&s thong, 2 sizes bigger than my normal size

Branleuse Mon 22-Apr-13 11:45:23

I never wear thongs any other time, but knickers look terrible under tight gym pants, and if you get the thong bigger than you would normaly, its not uncomfortable at all, nor do you get a visible thong line

kaumana Mon 22-Apr-13 12:39:20

I have the ones Whitecat linked to in black, as she said they do the job perfectly, I'd agree about sizing up.

foxysocks Mon 22-Apr-13 12:46:27

cotton boy shorts from figleaves.

carrie74 Mon 22-Apr-13 13:10:26

It has never occurred to me to wear different pants from those I'm already wearing (in fact, I rarely given any thought to how I look when exercising, it's not a fashion show innit?). I do generally favour cotton boy shorts/bikinis though, and my tops tend to cover my hips.

bigTillyMint Mon 22-Apr-13 13:19:12

I would never go commando - eeeeuuuuwwww!

I generally wear a thong (can't stand my bum eating my knickers, but i would say wear a colour close to your gymwear as I realised the other day that there were two (very small) holes in my ancient bottoms, revealing my white undies!blush Black undies wouldn't have shown at all.

NorbertDentressangle Mon 22-Apr-13 13:41:58

Well I've ordered some cotton non-VPL Sloggi briefs/shorts so will see how I get on with those.

Chandon Mon 22-Apr-13 15:46:16

hope you like them, I have some that are 5 years old and still in shape.

worth the money, IMO

LadyMountbatten Mon 22-Apr-13 15:59:13

You lot are so uptight

LadyMountbatten Mon 22-Apr-13 16:04:59

let your Yoni run FREEEE

BIWI Mon 22-Apr-13 16:06:57

MrsHoarder Mon 22-Apr-13 16:13:06

I wear the shorts style ones. So what if you have VPL, all they will know is that you are wearing pants, its hardly scandalous.

Abzs Mon 22-Apr-13 18:12:35

Sorry, for late reply, but heavens no! Not like those! Mine are normal brief shaped.

Abzs Mon 22-Apr-13 18:18:26

Now slightly concerned that I must have sweaty nethers (sorry, tmi) blush because I cannot wear cotton pants for exercise.

Should I also be more concerned about vpl?

Oh dear

bigTillyMint Mon 22-Apr-13 18:25:07

I'm more concerned with, erm, leakages which might show <boak>

LadyMountbatten Mon 22-Apr-13 18:35:23

We've been
Through your gushing vaginal discharge before you lot !
Tilly! No shoes without socks no trousers sans pants,,?! ;)

I like pants so i can attach my panty liner to them!

BanoffeeSplitz Mon 22-Apr-13 19:19:43

It's never occurred to me that the gusset inside my running tights might be a substitute for pants shock. Nor can I contemplate running in a thong.

Usually wear a swimming cossie underneath (because I like to swim after), which is more comfortable than pants (no waistband). But my figure is nowhere near svelte enough not to wear a baggy top over, even if it's just a baggy vest.
Otherwise just basic cheap seamfree pants.

BanoffeeSplitz Mon 22-Apr-13 19:21:59

I have jogged behind people with no pants under their tights - it's fine until you notice, then you just think "They are running around with no pants on!"

I would find a tad of VPL reassuring tbh.

Gerrof Mon 22-Apr-13 19:23:26

Commando. But the material my shorts are made of is probably designed by NASA or something. Nothing will split those babies,

I couldn't for the life of me wear knickers under really tight gym shorts. And who the hell would wear a thong and then go to the gym?

Mind you this is probably why the sweaty blokes stand at the back in body pump. Waiting for someone's shorts to split during lunges.

NorbertDentressangle Mon 22-Apr-13 19:37:20

LadyMountbatten grin -my Yoni is staying firmly in my pants thank you very much!

Gerrof - I like the idea of NASA flitting between space travel one minute and then gym wear to keep your Yoni contained the next .

bigTillyMint Mon 22-Apr-13 19:38:29

Me, Gerroff!grinblush

Is it a really big social faux pas?

EleanorFarjeon Mon 22-Apr-13 19:52:30

I have just been to the gym and cast a furtive eye over the other after work gym types in the changing room (who now think I'm odd).

I saw several pants removed before tight gym bottoms were put on, apart from one who changed into quite baggy bottoms & kept her (massive) knicks on.

LadyMountbatten Mon 22-Apr-13 19:54:21

There you are. I always go home to change. I never see this hell

Gerrof Mon 22-Apr-13 20:04:36

I missed that bigtilly! That can't be comfortable. Bloody treadmilling it with a cheese wire g string on <Lemon face>

Gerrof Mon 22-Apr-13 20:05:32

Well it must be comfortable because you wear one. I would be too scared to try. I would spend the whole session hoiking the g string out of the area. Glam.

bigTillyMint Mon 22-Apr-13 20:10:04

No, the g string just sits where it should. It's the big (or even bikini-style) knickers that get stuck up your bum - I find them soooo uncomfortable.

Cami knickers are lovely. But not good for VPL.

Gerrof Mon 22-Apr-13 20:11:10

Oh I don't like camikmickers, I nicked some of my daughters to wear under jeans, that was a mistake.

bigTillyMint Mon 22-Apr-13 20:14:41

No good under jeans - best under floaty dresseswink

TheBuskersDog Mon 22-Apr-13 20:43:29

Thongs are fine if they are big enough, they only dig in/go right up your bum if they are too small.
I have never considered not wearing anything under my tights when running, just like I don't go commando under normal tights just because they have a gusset in them.
Also I don't necessarily wash my running tights every single time I wear them, e.g I've just done a short run and know I'll be going again the next day, I'd have to wash after every wear if I didn't wear knickers.
