How many bras do you own?

I had a bit of a bra revelation the other day. Whilst shopping in a sale I tried on a couple of bras that took years off me. I have just emerged bleary eyed out of the last 7 years looking after babies, breastfeeding and toddlers and found that my boobs no longer stand up on their own. they are still the same size - a whopping 34DD, but they look very flat in my clothes.

I always thought push up bras were a bit obscene on people over 25. The last time I looked at them Eva Hertigova was saying Hello Boys. Now it appears that they have moved on and they push up and pad out in a bit more subtle ways, taking 10 years off your boobs.

So, how many bras do you own? Aside from Sports Bras, I have about 20. However, they are dreary, saggy, make me look flat. I have 2 nice new ones. Most of them are flesh coloured.

Talk to me about bra capsule wardrobes, how many to have and what quality.

Err, please.

MrsLettuce Sat 20-Apr-13 08:30:55

I have one bra that fits and two that don't, for emergencies <sob>

Hopefully Sat 20-Apr-13 08:36:44

I have only two that fit well (and another couple for emergencies!) thanks to weight loss affecting my size. I could do with at least two more so I'm not constantly trying to keep up with the laundry.

nellyjelly Sat 20-Apr-13 08:38:02

2 that fit. Around 15 in various sizes that don't.

HellonHeels Sat 20-Apr-13 08:39:43

20 bras? Blimey! Apart from sports bras I have three- two that need replacing and one that I never wear because it isn't supportive enough. I hate bra shopping so have been putting it off for ages.

Chuck out the 20 horrors, keep the two that fit and treat yourself to a good fitting?

picnicbasketcase Sat 20-Apr-13 08:40:49

I've not counted but about twelve that I can think of. Two that are really comfortable and fit properly and the rest look nice but leave red marks. confused

YoniTrix Sat 20-Apr-13 08:42:32

About 10. Not one that fits properly at the moment as I have lost weight.

Wishfulmakeupping Sat 20-Apr-13 08:45:35

About 20 am rotating the same 6 nursing bras at the mo though

OnTheNingNangNong Sat 20-Apr-13 08:45:38

two. None that really fit or give me shape

ZuleikaJambiere Sat 20-Apr-13 08:49:57

I stopped breast feeding 6 months and have had a purge and restock, asking for Leia vouchers for Christmas and birthday to get well fitting ones. I now have
2 white and 2 dark that fit
2 white that survived the purge and fit ok, for emergencies
one nude strapless, which rarely gets worn but is there just in case
one fancy one that gives a great cleavage, but rubs under my arms, so only gets worn for a short period of time such as an evening out
Aside from wanting a fancy one that does the cleavage without rubbing, I think I'm sorted for bras

tourdefrance Sat 20-Apr-13 08:50:05

3 sports bras and about 6 others of which 2 any good so I wear in rotation Finally chucked out nursing bras about a year ago but not got around to getting proper ones. Am also v small in that area so very little choice.

Fairylea Sat 20-Apr-13 08:52:17

2 that fit reasonably. About 5 in total. I really need to get fitted again !

Bunbaker Sat 20-Apr-13 09:10:32

Thanks to the brilliant bra threads on here I went out and bought some new bras, so all of them fit like a dream. I now own 5 - three flesh coloured, one white and one strapless.

I am only a 32B sad, so finding bras in my size isn't difficult.

Areyoumadorisitme Sat 20-Apr-13 09:22:52

Like an earlier poster, 2 that fit nicely and I wear nearly all the time. And about another 15 in varying sizes which look nice but aren't at all comfortable.
I own one white bra for emergencies and nearly all the rest are black or dark coloured, burgundy etc. No flesh coloured at all.

noviceoftheday Sat 20-Apr-13 09:26:46

I probably own about 45! About 20 are stored away while we decide on whether there will be dc3, as they were maternity bras and then nursing bras. About 20 are my day to day bras in every colour (I am one of those saddoes that always wear a bra and knicker set and they usually match my clothes.blushblush). About 5 sports bras. Of the 20 I use, about half are in my normal size (28E and damn hard to find!) and the other half are in 30DD which I usually wear when I have my period as i seem to bloat all over or put them on tightest hook if I really want to wear it and not on period.

happyfreeconfused Sat 20-Apr-13 09:29:33

I have loads and loads! How can you only have two or three? Do you not have any matching lingerie sets? I have tons - not that I actually wear them of course! Saving them for best.

Cherrypie32 Sat 20-Apr-13 09:30:10

2 because grear bras for large chests cost a fortune!

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie Sat 20-Apr-13 09:37:03

happy....some people don't have a choice ffd. Underwear that fits is very expensive. Good on you that you have "loads and loads" but hmm at you wondering how other people don't have any "matching lingerie sets"

I have 3 nursing bras that don't fit that well but do the job. Recently lost 2 stone and DS is 12 months now so breast feeding has reduced a bit so that's changed my bra size.

HellonHeels Sat 20-Apr-13 10:00:12

Heh! I loathe matching lingerie sets. if the bra is supportive enough and fits well the knickers are usually scratchy and uncomfortable.

Also they almost invariably seem to have lacy bits that show through your clothes. I like plain, smooth fabrics.

I don't have any 'bedroom bras' at the moment :-)

sussexmum38 Sat 20-Apr-13 10:01:49

I have 25 though I am going to go through and throw out those that no longer fit. 3 of them white, 2 strapless a few sports. I have 4 sets for special nights. The rest are black and nude.

freddiefrog Sat 20-Apr-13 10:07:43

I have loads but wear the same few on rotation.

I am not blessed in the boob department but am a regular size so fortunately I can get away with cheapy undies and have quite a few matching sets

SorrelForbes Sat 20-Apr-13 10:09:26

I have about four that fit really, really well. I am a 30GG which isn't a size that's stocked everywhere.

Come over to the bra threads y'all.

ChippingInLovesSpring Sat 20-Apr-13 10:16:06

10 everyday bras (8 white, 2 black) <clean one everyday - at least once a day>

3 not so everyday ones that are comfortable enough, but not quite as comfy.

noviceoftheday Sat 20-Apr-13 10:35:01

Sorrell, 30GG, I feel your pain in finding bras. I do lurk on the bra threads. You ladies do great worksmile. I love it when people have their revelation moment.grin I had mine about 15 years ago in Selfridges in London. I was so broke but the relief after 13 years of ill fitting bras meant I was prepared to give up treats to have a nice fitting bra. Never looked back! The Selfridges ladies have fitted me ever since including 4 years of pregnancies and breast feeding where they sensibly advised me to go back every 3 months and check.

santamarianovella Sat 20-Apr-13 10:37:35

im one of those sad people who like to wear matching underwear,so i have about 15 sets,8 everyday bras ,2 strapless bras,5 frilly lacy ones,
and 3 sports bras.
im 32B sad so,most of my bras are padded.

singaporeswing Sat 20-Apr-13 10:50:32

Sorrell as a fellow 30GG, I feel your pain!

I probably have about 12-15 in various colours & styles.

dontyouwantmebaby Sat 20-Apr-13 10:57:26

am also a bit hmm at post above having 'tons of matching lingerie sets...but never wearing them'. Not everyone can afford loads of bras or matching sets!

IMO far better to have one or two properly fitted, comfortable bras than loads you will never get around to wearing. Not a fan of matching sets either altho I used to choose them waste money on them.

last year, for first time ever*, I got measured properly and have never looked back. I bought two nude bras, one plain t-shirt cup & the other prettier/lacy. The difference felt in wearing a properly fitted bra is incredible and although they were expensive, they've been worth every penny as I get so much wear out of them (unlike the others). I am a 34GG cup. Those bras were an investment.

bra links here:
taupe bestform bra
champagne t-shirt fayreform bra

I've recently bought a lovely triumph black bra to add to my new minimalist (!) collection. I still have a shock absorber sports bra since before I was fitted and a couple of white stretchy all-in-ones (that I'd never wear outdoors!).

*should have done this 20 years ago grin

BinksToEnlightenment Sat 20-Apr-13 10:58:50

I have lots, but currently only one that fits properly. I did have three in the same style but different colours but they suddenly stopped fitting me! So now I've gone back to an old one.

foxysocks Sat 20-Apr-13 11:00:25

three

and three sportsbras

i don't like matching underwear OR spending money on bras.

dontyouwantmebaby Sat 20-Apr-13 11:01:16

oh lots of posts appeared as I wrote that, I should add as I'm older am choosing for comfort now, probably a factor in me not bothering to choose matching sets as I did in my 20s!

Still18atheart Sat 20-Apr-13 11:04:33

About 9 which do fit

1 or 2 that don't

EMUZ Sat 20-Apr-13 11:11:45

Too many blush although I've sold a lot on eBay
Ones I wear
Bravissimo - darling heart bra, laurel bra, satine plunge bra
Panache - jasmine bra, elsa bra
Debenhams gorgeous range - a white, a black, and a red roses one
Around 12 Royce sports bras (mainly black but I have grey too) as I need a sports bra at least once sometimes twice a day
34J/JJ so bras aren't cheap

Bra's that fit - three and one sports bra.

Ones that don't - about 20. Bought during pregnancy, nursing bras and ones that no longer fit since breastfeeding and my boobs seriously shrunk.

I'm really small chested so tend to wear those cropped vest things now.

Thurlow Sat 20-Apr-13 11:22:53

3. Bravissimo fit me really well, so once a year I go and get 3 new bras - one white, one black and one 'nice' (even the sales women describe them like that when I saw I want 3 bras!). I reckon after about a year of 3 on rotation they're starting to get a bit saggy etc. I don't mind just under £100 a year for something I have to wear every day, but I do have to remember a few months before I need more to start putting the money aside.

About 9 I think. All but one of them fit me decently if not amazingly well. No 'nice' ones though, they are all just plain ones until I work out exact sizing in each of the brands I prefer.

Iwantmybed Sat 20-Apr-13 12:00:04

I have about 15. 5 in my size which I wear regularly. Asda do some pretty bras in larger sizes for £6. I always struggled getting 36F.

4 that fit properly (of these 2 are expensive) that I rotate regularly, 3 nursing bras that fit beautifully but I haven't had the chance to wear yet (MC), 2 sports bras, one comfy but ill-fitting one in a shade of grey for slobbing around the house.

I binned all the ones that don't fit - I wore the wrong size for years and don't have room to store them. Actually I donated the nice ones.

Three. All bought last month.

And then about 6 that I need to sell on ebay as they are the wrong size!

Are you sure you're a 34DD because you describe them as "whopping" and a DD cup with a 34 back isn't very big at all.
A 40B has the same size cup as a 34DD. I myself am a 32E and my boobs are tiny.

MrsJohnDeere Sat 20-Apr-13 14:16:21

Haven't counted but I'd guess 30odd.

To answer your question I've only got 6 bras at the moment.I really nerd some new ones though as now that I'm pregnant they are starting to get uncomfortable.

Bunbaker Sat 20-Apr-13 15:23:44

"I myself am a 32E and my boobs are tiny."

I doubt that they are that tiny. I am a 32B and mine are tiny.

They really are small and are non existent when I take my push up bra off.

Thurlow Sat 20-Apr-13 15:38:37

Mother, I know what you mean. I'm a 30F but they really don't look that impressive grin

Heinz55 Sat 20-Apr-13 15:42:17

I was a 34C BC and am a 32FF after children shockshockshock and I now have about 30 bras in my drawer but three that I wear. I get fitted every couple of years because they change (apart from getting bigger as mine seem to keep doing despite weight lossconfused) and I keep the old ones in case my prayers are answered and they ever decrease. My last fitting showed that I'd gone down a back size and that the darlings need (nowadays) to be hauled UP from hiding under my arms and together.
Sorrell and Novice: unusual sizes are usually all that's left in decent bras in the sale!!!

It winds me up so much Thurlow Apparently Kelly Brooke is the same size as me. Her boobs are massive. She definetly wasn't fitted at bravissimo it must have been M&S.

MrsHoarder Sat 20-Apr-13 15:51:56

I have:
- 1 nursing bra that fits well and gives me a nice silhouette
- 2 nursing bras that are very comfy but give me a bit of a monoboob look (stretchy ones for my labour bag)
- 2 nursing bras that fit ok and look nice
- 1 charity donation bag in the bottom if my wardrobe overflowing with bras that are currently far too small in various sizes.

Allthingspretty Sat 20-Apr-13 15:53:13

About 30 plus
All handwashed
All still fit and do their job well

LivesInLegoland Sat 20-Apr-13 16:15:30

After last week's Bravissimo revelation I now have five bras that fit and a bin liner of around 30 that don't !

I'm not sure I want to count blush

Excluding the "don't even remotely fit" box I would guess at 30. I'm around a 30HH-ish

Bravissimo - Satine in 2 colours, alana in 4 colours, Starlet, Betsy Bow, parisien plume (too small), demi diva (snug), dotty spot (too small)
Cleo - just the meg
Freya - erm - Jolie in 2 colours, Lyla in 2 colours plus about 3 or 4 others and the underwired sports bra
Curvy Kate - a Tempt me and 2 Tease Me
Wonderbra - 2 ultimate strapless
Fantasie - Florence
Masquerade - Delphi basque
Debenhams gorgeous - longline bra
Ewa Michalak - 4 of these....

Slight bra addiction - and most of these are sets too blush

Is there anywhere that does maternity bras with matching knickers. I hate not having matching underwear.

?

MacaYoniAndCheese Sat 20-Apr-13 16:38:50

2 good ones that fit (one black, one nude) and a whole bunch of crummy ones that I really need to throw away. Never buy matching sets; would rather spend money on clothes than undies.

Motherofnations Hotmilk do I think, and it looks like the Bravissimo ones have matching pants too

Also try some of these

Thankyou statistically. I've been trying to put off buying some incase I grow again but its getting to the stage where I can't wait to get home and get my bra off.

Most of those bottoms would really irritate a cesarean scar though.

I know, there are some ridiculously low ones. As a rule I've never found Freya bottoms a problem for my scar - although I tend to size up a bit in pants which helps. I think the ones which go with the Panache Sophie are probably ok - you can see they are actually rolled down under her bump rather than just being tiny smile

SorrelForbes Sat 20-Apr-13 17:20:08

Heinz55

Sorrell and Novice: unusual sizes are usually all that's left in decent bras in the sale!!! True but what's really sad is that actually 30GG shouldn't be considered an unusual size. Grrrrr.

Yes, 34DD, 32E, 28F etc etc - not big sizes at all!

Some of the bras are lovely but most are too full in the cup for me. I get on better with balcony bras so my choice is reduced a bit.

nowahousewife Sat 20-Apr-13 17:47:34

About 15 that fit well and maybe 5 that don't. Bravissimo is my favourite shop and to make me feel even better about my oversized (34HH) mammary's. I always buy matching knickers wink.

Saddest thing that happened to me was leaving my favourite 5 bra's in my hotel room in LA recently. Had to make do with the one I was wearing for the rest of my holiday and felt a bit silly asking the hotel to post them back to the UK. Oh well, good excuse to go back to Bravissimo smile

DewDr0p Sat 20-Apr-13 18:53:00

Another Bravissimo fan here. But decent bras aren't cheap so I have to be fairly minimalist about my bra wardrobe.

At the moment I have 1 nude, 1 black, 1 blue, 1 patterned and a sports bra.

AlwaysSleepingBeauty Sat 20-Apr-13 20:51:35

I have four at the moment, a few months ago I got rid of all the ones that didn't fit and started again with some that do. I have three from the Rosie for Autograph range ( the same bra in three different colours...) and one black bullet bra from What Katie Did. I need to get another actually because I don't have any sensible colours!

everythingishoney Sun 21-Apr-13 02:15:32

I live somewhere quite hot so I can go through a couple a day sweating. Most of mine are flesh coloured because my T shirts are quite flimsy. Sad to say that all my knickers are either flesh colour or black cotton M&S. Most of my bras are pretty sad and I am in the process of wearing and throwing out. To me 34DD are whopping. Realistically I don't think I need more than about 6 or 7 because I am always washing them. I do seem to have a few nice ones under the drudgy pile but haven't been anywhere nice to wear them. I am one of those people who buy things and then don't wear them because they are too nice. I need to get a grip eh? [hmmm]

nowahousewife Sun 21-Apr-13 11:23:27

Flesh coloured are practical but if there's any chance of them being seen either under a v flimsy or strappy top then a flash of gorgeous contrasting colour can look much nicer than 'safe' boring flesh colour.

Bunbaker Sun 21-Apr-13 12:49:04

I don't like to see bras showing through clothes, but I am much older than most on here and not in the least bit "fashionable"

happyfreeconfused Sun 21-Apr-13 14:31:23

Sorry if I offended anyone by saying I've got loads of underwear! But seriously, how can you have one or two bras? I have had my nice underwear for years (15 years in some cases) and I don't think it's a case of what you can afford/having lots of money. I am not extravagant and when I read on these threads what people will spend on a handbag or various beauty products or treatments, I am shocked. It's probably just what you prioritise.

happyfreeconfused Sun 21-Apr-13 14:34:46

Maybe those who don't have much underwear throw it away regularly or have changed shape/size over the years?

Limoncellolovely Sun 21-Apr-13 14:39:10

Pooped over to the bra intervention thread and was inspired to be measured correctly in Bravissimo ended up ditching over 40 incorrectly sizes ones and now have 5 that fit which seems to work perfectly for me!!

ifancyashandy Sun 21-Apr-13 14:46:39

About 50. And I always buy 2 x knickers for each bra - thong and shorts/Brazilian. And I store all the knickers tucked inside the cup of the bra in the drawer. And always matching - my plain t-shirt bras in nude, black and white get matched with packs of M&S things in the same colour (and they have their own drawer!). Bras are not from M&S ever.

Bunbaker Sun 21-Apr-13 16:14:02

"Bras are not from M&S ever."

Mine are always grin

Because they fit me. I am not a bra snob and don't do the matching bra and knickers thing. And I don't wear thongs (shudder) I am not a teenager.

ifancyashandy Sun 21-Apr-13 16:18:15

They're not from M+S because they don't fit me. Not because of snobbery. I too am no longer in my teens. But I've got a hatred for feeling knickers or having a VPL under trousers. I've got a good arse & like to dress it to its full potential!

titan Sun 21-Apr-13 16:22:51

Three nice fairly expensive ones that fit well, are comfortable and I wear all the time. About 7 other random ones clogging up the drawer which I never wear. I can recommend a brand called Marie Jo.

Only one that fits at the moment - Anita underwired nursing bra in red/pink. I got it after seeing recommendations on here. It is the BEST nursing bra ever.

Have about 5 more non nursing bras - all Freya.

HalfBakedCleverCookie Sun 21-Apr-13 18:07:17

I have 4 normal that almost fit and about 20 that don't even come close.

2 nursing bras that did fit really well until recently and 4 more nursing bras that are way off.
