White Jeans - ok, or not?!

I can't quite make my mind up - to carry them off do you need to be slim and tanned?

Be interested in any opinions! Ta

ClearlyDad Fri 19-Apr-13 12:34:47

No to both... plenty of pale-russian tennis players wear white jeans (not tanned) and plenty of curvy and "amply proportioned" women do it to. The secret is to buy jeans IN YOUR SIZE, you don't want to look like a reject from a sofa factory either.

AnonYonimousBird Fri 19-Apr-13 13:28:16

Russian tennis players are usually 6 foot and size 8!!!

I totally get the "right size" thing - apart from anything else I cannot bear uncomfortable clothes....

Well, I'll have a think! Thanks for your reply.

Sonotkylie Fri 19-Apr-13 13:39:06

I like them but think they need to be kept classic rather than trendy to avoid too strong a statement, unless of course you are 18, tall, slim and tanned or at least 2 of those things. Skinny white jeans (especially with embellishment) on an older, more realistically proportioned woman risks tarty or silly. But I think straight leg or flare can look fantastic. I saw a 70 year old (I only know because she told me) in white straight leg jeans, bright pink t shirt and denim shirt over the top and she looked really chic and stylish and comfortable.
Oh they also need to stay really white. Buy lots of Napisan if you do go for it! (Unlike the rest of this post that is not opinion but FACT).

ClearlyDad Fri 19-Apr-13 14:17:35

I think Sonotkylie and me are saying the same thing, but with varying degrees of tact!

PoshPaula Fri 19-Apr-13 14:40:41

I love white jeans. Pretty much any cut - including three quarter or ankle length. If they get a bit dirty, so what.

MrsCampbellBlack Fri 19-Apr-13 14:41:59

I love them and wear them a lot in the spring/summer. Don't think there's an age or size limit - just buy ones that suit you.

RedPencils Fri 19-Apr-13 14:42:23

Not unless you're Liz Hurley.

practicality Fri 19-Apr-13 14:44:08

I like them. Cut is key. Higher waisted worn with a hip length or longer top is flattering.

3hens Fri 19-Apr-13 14:49:53

I have a yearning for white jeans this summer! I know, I know, as a pear I shouldn't go there but I really want them!! Lovely, no matter the age, if they're a good shape. I fancy a baby boot-cut pair. Anyone know a reasonably priced pair?

MrsCampbellBlack Fri 19-Apr-13 14:53:02

I think Emmanuel is now the queen of white jeans - Liz h much as I love her is a bit last decade.

Pinterest great for finding lots of white jeans inspiration.

I have topshop baxters and Hudson baby bootcuts in white - both fab.

foxysocks Fri 19-Apr-13 14:54:59

i really like them. i want some too. i want low hipster style, and poss a bit slouchy rather than tight tight.

do your baxters sit low or high mrsCB?

MrsCampbellBlack Fri 19-Apr-13 14:59:47

They're quite high but they're last years and I think they've changed their cut - they certainly have of the indigo baxters to my chagrin.

MrsCampbellBlack Fri 19-Apr-13 15:00:01

River Island amelie also nice in clean white.

AnonYonimousBird Fri 19-Apr-13 15:06:01

Ooo, golly, I was expecting a resounding "what the hell are you thinking"..

Thanks all, good to know I'm not alone in desiring a pair!

squoosh Fri 19-Apr-13 15:22:21

You need to write to Liz Hurley asking her to grant you permission to wear white jeans.

polyhymnia Fri 19-Apr-13 17:29:31

I'm neither young nor slim but I do love them too and feel good in them in summer.
Buy the best quality you can.
Agree they, and the tops, etc you put with them, need to be pretty plain to look classy not tacky. I really like a monochrome look, with a simple black or black and white top -specially with a bit of a tan. But lots of colours work with them too.

noddyholder Fri 19-Apr-13 17:30:58

Love them. No one can ever out white jean la hurley She wears them all year round which makes her queen imo grin I have a few pairs and wear a lot

I wouldn't wear them myself, I'd be too afraid of people mistaking my bum for the moon! However, I think they look nice on other people as long as they are the right size (obviously) and the right cut for the persons shape. I say go for it

santamarianovella Fri 19-Apr-13 17:43:56

i love them.just not the thin stretchy kind ,i have a 7FAM and its perfect.
i would love the MIH kick flare in white.

spottyparrot Fri 19-Apr-13 17:45:21

White trousers = invitation to period stains

squoosh Fri 19-Apr-13 17:46:18

Yep, I'd be paranoid that I'd start to spontaneously bleed as I eased my limbs into my Liz Hurley jeans. I'd spend the day manically checking my arse, not a good look.

bulletproofgerbil Fri 19-Apr-13 17:47:02

I've always wanted to wear them but am totally the wrong shape and they don't flatter me one bit. If they do suit you though I think they can look sexy, classic and 'European' in a good way. I don't think it's to do with how thin/tall you are but whether they suit your shape and what you wear them with. Worth trying some on and seeing what you reckon.

MarshaBrady Fri 19-Apr-13 17:48:44

I bought some off-white MiH ones this year, yet to wear.

Also love the pale/white with white or monochrome thing.

Fuckitthatlldo Fri 19-Apr-13 17:57:27

Oooh I dunno. I'd be scared to sit down and brush past things. Don't they just get totes filthy?

cleangreens Fri 19-Apr-13 18:00:37

I love them - not too much in the way of blingy jewellery with them though or would probably look a bit euro trash!

squoosh Fri 19-Apr-13 18:02:05

I think Euro Trash is the point with white jeans isn't it?

Sonotkylie Fri 19-Apr-13 18:07:31

ClearlyDad - I resent the implication of tact! I pride myself on being wild and free and entirely lacking in self knowledge ...
Looks like there'll be plenty of us this summer! Quite like them in winter with tan/ brown (classsy brown of course) stuff too ...

harbinger Fri 19-Apr-13 18:26:56

Changed the cut of baxter jeans shock. Just as I need some more, typical! MrsCB how have they changed? Bet it's for the worse.

MrsCampbellBlack Fri 19-Apr-13 19:28:53

I think its for the worse - they were just odd and the denim was different.

I havent' seen Liz H in white jeans in ages and I'm an avid follower of hers on twitter.

cleangreens Fri 19-Apr-13 20:09:30

Mmmmm not sure I want to be channelling Euro Trash tbh grin!

harbinger Fri 19-Apr-13 21:32:16

Oh, goodness. Where do I start if baxters have gorn.............

White is fine, if worn in the right setting. Love white jeans and shorts.

BreastmilkCrucifiesAFabLatte Fri 19-Apr-13 22:20:28

I think white jeans are the sort of garment that needs to be kept sparkly white. Until DS stops wiping his toddler paws on my legs, I'll stick to the traditional...

bunnymother Fri 19-Apr-13 22:30:18

I have young children and keep my white Baxters white by washing them in the washing machine w a little bleach squirted in the laundry detergent drawer, along w the detergent. I will probably give them a good soaking soon, too. But, white jeans and small children can work, I think.

I wear them in winter and summer - they are far more versatile than I ever thought they would be. Do it, OP - get some!

ClearlyDad Fri 19-Apr-13 22:51:11

Only in comparison to me Sonotkylie... I take things to a new low... read my blog at http://momentsofparenthood.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/too-cool-for-school-part-2.html

scarlet76 Sat 20-Apr-13 00:11:24

I just bought a pair called 'relaxed skinny fit' from Next petite range (am 5ft and a size 6/8) They are quite casual. I will probably wear them rolled to the ankle with flat leather sandals and vests in the summer (if we ever get one)

CointreauVersial Sat 20-Apr-13 00:42:51

Love them.

Or go for pale grey or oatmeal for a "White Lite" look.
