I am 53 and wore a bikini for the first time 2 years ago.

But cast out all my summer clothes last year, vowing never to go on holiday again.
However we have just booked a week away blush

i am a 34F so need something supportive and a 14 bottom, and would like big pants style. Nothing skimpy. I'm 6 feet tall and slim except for my stomach, but hopefully with jilliam Michael's help, that will be better by August.

That's the sort of thing but it's sold out in my size. Quite like the Tallulah style on there.

coreny Thu 11-Apr-13 16:32:43

I have some freya/fantasie ones that are really nice as the pants are proper pants - not too small! I think ebay shops may sell them.

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 16:34:23

Hi. I'm similar ish to you.

My tips are Freya and panache and fantasie. Order loads online. Try tops only at start of day NOT under a ceiling light.

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 16:34:39

Look on fig leaves. Then order.

coreny Thu 11-Apr-13 16:35:45

yy to trying loads on.
I went into House of Fraser and tried loads on then ordered from the ebay shops - I've just looked online at HOF and they don't have many pants though.

coreny Thu 11-Apr-13 16:36:16

oh yes figleaves - forgot about them!

LyonsDemesne Thu 11-Apr-13 16:36:40

check brastop - they also have a sale at the mo

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 16:37:03

Also choose colours that would normally suit you in clothes. Really makes a difference.

Mrsrobertduvall Thu 11-Apr-13 16:39:46

Fig leaves have 20% off at the moment.
I had freya and panache ones two years ago and actually sold them on ebay as my cup size changed.

Great ideas everyone....Lady M I agree about wearing colours you'd normally wear.

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 16:45:43

Yes. Got just black. Won't slim unless you stand against a black wall all holiday.

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 16:48:37

Not just

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 16:49:48

Also teat yourself to new little dresses etc or shorts/ shirts that all go with the bikinis.i always buy a vest top for if I'm walking to bar/ villa whatever

KristinaM Thu 11-Apr-13 16:50:40

I buy from figleaves, bras stop and other proper bra shops in their sale. Panache, Freya, figleaves own brand etc . You buy the tops and bottoms separately.

There is one style that works for me as I'm also in my 50s and a 30f. I get underwired NON halter neck style tops and the bottoms with fold down tops, as I can adjust these to support my flabby tummy . I find halter necks styles hurt my neck and short style legs make my legs looks shorter. If you have a good bum and hips, why hide them?

The bonus of bigger cup styles is that they often have a wider strap at the back, which is less likely to dig in and create back flab. Not that you have any I'm sure

I search for my size of top, then style and find those with matching pants in my size. Then I order them all -probably a dozen to get a couple to fit. It's usually free postage and returns anyway.

Simple :-)

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 16:53:36

Agree Halter no good.

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 16:54:12

I had a lovely Chinese style one with aqua trim. Ace fold down pants

Mrsrobertduvall Thu 11-Apr-13 18:26:37

I think dh expects me to wear a cossie with a little skirt. he made a shock face 2 years ago when I emerged in my two piece by the pool.

He didn't say anything though. My face suggested he didn't.

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 18:35:52

oh fgs
I think its nice to have a whole range of stuff that goes.
right I am on laptop now, not phone - have you a moment to virtual shop?

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 18:37:38

Here it is - but not sure any of the cups would work for an F - but it might be worth contacting them

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 18:48:26

Mrsrobertduvall Thu 11-Apr-13 20:38:53

I LOVE everything!!!
Wll get to House of Fraser next week and have a good try on. i want to get things early, then I'm not scrabbling around in July looking for everything.

And am rejoining the gym tomorrow.

KristinaM Thu 11-Apr-13 22:07:45

Well done on the gym. I'm impressed by your dedication to the task

And also by your choice of husband. I see he is smart enough to stay out of matters, such as women's swimwear, on which he is not an expert wink. My husband has that same skill and its one of the secrets of our happy marriage .

nellyjelly Thu 11-Apr-13 22:13:29

Debenhams has some nice stuff.

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 22:34:38

In really recommend doing At Home. You'll weep in the changing rooms

LadyMountbatten Thu 11-Apr-13 22:35:08

Robert. Do body pump twice a week or best three.

KristinaM Thu 11-Apr-13 22:37:31

Body pump has done nothing for my flabby tum. Maybe I'm doing it wrong .

coreny Fri 12-Apr-13 00:06:14

jillian michaels 6 week 6 pack is excellent for toning your stomach(and arms), although you are meant to do it 5 times a week. It's about 40 mins long.

I used to do loads of body pump, but now do jillian micheals with 4/5 lb weights

LadyMountbatten Fri 12-Apr-13 06:20:34

No. But arms and but. Yes.

LadyMountbatten Fri 12-Apr-13 06:32:55

Mind you. Nothing apart from a diet will turn far into muscle. Well not even that really.

LadyMountbatten Fri 12-Apr-13 06:33:01

Mrsrobertduvall Fri 12-Apr-13 08:20:42

I left the gym in December as it was too far to go, but have realised despite Jillian Michael's DVDs which I do 4 times a week, I need more cardio and weights.
Eating sensibly too...I eat too much bread (with butter).

Ladies I am on a mission.

WeakAtTheCheese Fri 12-Apr-13 22:15:18

I'm watching this with interest. I'm a 36F and a 16/14 bottom. I've lost 24lbs since Jan and aim to lose more.

Like the OP I have NEVER worn a bikini as my stomach is bleurrgh. I read on here recently though that it is only British women who cower on the beach in swimsuits and it makes us look worse. The penny dropped and I really want to do the bikini this year but need it to look decent. However I cannot be arsed with ordering online and returning. I live in London so there must be lots of places I can try on with good advice.

I'm also ghostly white and don't go brown but that's another story

WeakAtTheCheese Fri 12-Apr-13 22:16:56

Exercise - I'd love to but I have 3 kids under 6, and my DH works away a lot. HOW does anyone manage it in this situation? And please don't tell me to run with the pushchair I would look like a prize arse.

gindrinker Fri 12-Apr-13 22:28:09

Debenhams have millions at the moment. Lots with proper cups sizes and a couple of different bottom styles and even matching cover ups.

I quite like nautical style...

Mrsrobertduvall Sat 13-Apr-13 07:51:18

Weakatthecheese...I am ghostly white as well.
Exercise....do you work when they are at school?
I can recommend the Jillian Michael's shred DVD...20 minutes. You could do it when they're in bed.

LadyMountbatten Sat 13-Apr-13 08:16:54

cheese - you are right, it is tough, I did nothing at that stage, yet was slimmer because i nevr got to sit down!
