Mine is my black leather Jane Shilton bag. It was an impulse buy in Costco (of all places!) as I needed a new black bag for work. If I had known then how utterly perfect it would be, I would have bought a couple more.......... Have since bought other bags which are similar but none measure up to the black one.

Have plenty of other handbags, as it is a bit of a 'thing' with me, but have used the Jane Shilton one more than any other and it is now getting to the point it needs to be replaced and I really wish I had another one (or two, or three!) ideally in different colours as well as the black.

In terms of looks, it is not the most exciting of styles, but it goes with everything because of that - work or casual. It is big enough to get everything I need in and yet small enough to fit in my drawer at work. The design of the interior compartments is absolutely perfect as it has sections for everything, so I never find myself digging around for things and can separate items that I need to have with me but dont use on a daily basis from things that I need more regularly. The straps are long enough that I can wear it as a shoulder bag if I need to be hands-free, but short enough that I can carry it.

What is your 'perfect piece'?

My £5 dress I'm wearing on my photos on here. I did go and buy another but was too lazy to go to the big tescos in the next town. I've had so many compliments. I wish I had more and in all the colours.

I've a got a Jane Shilton bag from Costco too lol. It's a beige/ peach colour one. Absolutely love it, and get asked about it all the time.
I do however love my little Longchamp handbag (black), but omg, I've had it for at least 6 years and have used it off and on in that time, it's my fails safe little bag, and there's no sign of it deteriorating. I'm eyeing up a burgundy/ red one currently, but need to sneak it past dh first.
We currently live in Oz, but the tat here is not up to scratch. Gonna have to wait til I get to duty free to buy one in the next few weeks...sigh.

Goldsign virtual high rise jeans. I have them in a few colours but they need to start doing them in black!!

I am a terrible multiple buyer, so I don't often have this problem...

This is slightly different. I bought some black leather ballet pumps from Next and not only do they fit like a dream (I'm a small size 3 so shoes ca sometimes be a bit too big) but they are so comfy. The only other colour they do is white, which I don't like the look of.

I wish they did other colours like brown and red.

AphraBehn Sun 07-Apr-13 13:31:02

Last summer Dorothy Perkins did a range of summer dresses in loads of colours for £16. I only bought 1 as I wasn't sure how much wear I would get out of it.
Needless to say, I wore it to death and now wish I had got another 2/3 in different colours.
No sign so far of them doing them again this year either.

MrsJaqenHgar Sun 07-Apr-13 13:35:14

A pair of gold leather sandals from Primark. They were £12 about 4 years ago and they just go perfectly with everything for summer and are so comfortable. I have worn them to death and sadly they are now ready for the bin. I wish I'd bought every pair they had in my size.

I had some leather thong type sandals from warehouse about 5 years ago and they gave up the ghost last year sad I can't find anything like them now sad I end she I'd bought a second pair to keep for later!

FattyMcChubster Sun 07-Apr-13 13:44:22

Not for me but bought dd some lovely little pumps from matalan of all places and they go with everything, literally. I should have bought pairs in every size instead she has a drawer of barely used shoes because they hardly match anything and she's about to grow out of this pair. Can't find anything similar.

*I wish I'd
strange autocorrect!

I generally do buy multiples of items I really love, and if I don't and regret it I trawl Ebay for them, usually with success.

I bought a leather satchel in the Boden sale last summer that is beyond gorgeous; I only bought it because the sale price was so good. I would love to have had it in one of the other two colours as well, but Ebay prices are rather high for them and I really can't justify it for a bag that is beautiful but that I in no way need.

A pair of brown, knee high boots from Principles. I must have had them for at least 8 years now and they are battered and leaky and really need throwing away. But I can't find any as nice to replace them.

Plain, three quarter sleeved, scoop neck t-shirts from M&S Limited Collection years ago. The best basic t-shirts I've ever owned and the morons at M&S stopped doing them. They occasionally do something similar in that horrible range that looks like it belongs in Debenhams with the sun hats (is it called Indigo?) but only in awful, wishy washy colours.

Plain black jumpers in decent fabrics - I wish I'd bought a million of these in the time before all the shops just started using acryllic or viscose.

Finbar Sun 07-Apr-13 14:31:50

I second Remus's vote for the M&S t-shirts...they were perfect but never repeated; they kept their shape and were just great. Wish I'd bought loads more.

Why oh why have they not repeated them? - nothing else has come close!

Finbar - I have even emailed them asking why they don't re-do them, but they didn't bother answering. Grrrr.

scarlet76 Sun 07-Apr-13 15:10:35

Yes. Those M&S tops were fab.
My mum bought me the best leather satchel I ever had when I was 16 and on holiday in Corfu. I would love a replica.
I also wish I'd bought some Clarks wedge knee boots in black as well as tan. May try ebay!

weebarra Sun 07-Apr-13 15:15:12

I bought a pair of Mantaray flowered espadrilles last summer and they were perfect. I managed to find another pair on ebay but it would be great if they did them again this year.

DolomitesDonkey Sun 07-Apr-13 15:54:25

Babyphat jeans - built for those with an erm "urban" shape. They went bankrupt. confused They fitted waist AND arse.

Allthingspretty Sun 07-Apr-13 16:03:10

H and m basic t shirts cheaper and better than m and d

FrugalFashionista Sun 07-Apr-13 17:00:26

I'm the queen of multiples and regret every single one. Unless you have a difficult to dress shape (Freddie your dress may be the exception), they rarely make sense. I always prefer one colorway over the others and the the rest are usually redundant / clutter up my wardrobe.

Trills Sun 07-Apr-13 17:05:30

I have some dresses from Dorothy Perkins from last year that I bought in a variety of colours - bought the red one first and loved it so got purple and green too (the colours it was available in were exactly the colours I like) - I wonder if it' the same dress.

AphraBehn Sun 07-Apr-13 17:39:38

Was it a knee length jersey type with a wrap style bodice, Trills?
I have teal, I really want navy.

MarshaBrady Sun 07-Apr-13 17:41:50

I did buy multiples of I&I cashmere, in different colours, but wish I had bought more.

Trills Sun 07-Apr-13 17:59:50

Yep.

I have red and teal and purple.

The red one is a bit bobbly already though sad

FunnyLittleFrog Sun 07-Apr-13 18:09:22

I need another pair of my best Oasis black patent shoes. Already had two pairs - first bought last year for £28 in the sale then a second pair when they were reduced to £7 in the sale (that was a good day!).

I have multiples of these H&M dresses. I wear them as long t-shirts with skinnies and leggings. I have them in almost every colour they have ever brought them out in and wear them loads.

Things I have multiples of:

Goldsigns
J Brand 811s
American Vintage T-Shirts
Supergas
Maje t-shirts
Cos t-shirts
American Apparel dresses

Don't regret any of those multiples

foxysocks Sun 07-Apr-13 20:33:14

interesting qu. i have never bought the exact item twice, for when one wears out, but i have very occasionally bought the same thing in diff colours. only when i absolutely flipping LOVE it, though, not as a matter of course.

current multiples are...

goldsign virtuals in indigo and grey
the diesel jeans that fit me best in two washes - one lighter and one dark
ash virgin trainers in tan and nude
converse in white and navy
havianas in silver and gold
me&em boyfriend tee in charcoal and am now tempted by the white as it's such a good length/fit on me (i'm tall, getting looooong and good quality tees at a reasonable price point is surprisingly hard)

i tried on a great tee the other day which i'm tempted to get in two colours but will be sensible and buy one then see how i get on with it

like amber I don't regret any of these, all v sensible buys for me and work well in my life.

JumpHerWho Sun 07-Apr-13 21:39:15

I bought Bloch ballet flats in brown leather and snakeskin from TK Maxx.

Then stupidly posted a thread about it on here and all TK Maxxes across the country immediately sold out of the buggers before I went back to buy all the other colours. Have worn both to the point of them falling apart, and there's no way in hell I'm paying over £100 for more sad

MarshaBrady Sun 07-Apr-13 21:42:53

I just thought of more

MiH Paris
J Crew vintage ts
Pistols x 2

Really want to repeat some ballet flats and a bag from last year.

MarshaBrady Sun 07-Apr-13 21:43:31

X 2 or 3 in that list.

kerstina Sun 07-Apr-13 23:24:53

Years ago, possibly as long as five years ago I bought some beautiful metallic pink leather travel ballet slippers from Oasis I wore them as slippers they were so comfy and pretty. Have never been able to find anything similar since.

justasecond Sun 07-Apr-13 23:55:38

I bought a cream boucle jacket/cardi with tiny gold stud buttons and a rounded hem from Zara last year. Loved it so much also bought the mint green in same style and then bought another of cream one for when the first one wears out! blush it was in the sale though.
I also wish I had bought another pair of some amazing flats I bought in selfridges about 11 years ago, they were about £200 which is the most I have ever spent on shoes but I still wear them every year and they are my most fave shoes ever.

SpaceMonkeyMafia Mon 08-Apr-13 00:22:04

My Debenhams Red Herring skinnies. They are ridiculously flattering even on my short curvy body, I wear them all the time. They were reduced to £7.80 in the sale, if I had known how much I would end up loving them (bit of an impulse buy) I would have bought more, in different colours.

Fluffycloudland77 Mon 08-Apr-13 08:16:49

My M&S limited collection high heeled sandals. Perfect slender heel, a turquoise and navy print that screamed "Pucci" and only £20.

I wore them all summer, got loads of compliments on them! They were the most comfy heels ever.

I didn't have the Internet then, and I'd just met dh so I wasn't interested in shopping as much but if I saw them on eBay I'd buy another pair like that .

Decameron Mon 08-Apr-13 09:54:04

I often buy things I like in various colours or washes.
Russell and Bromley ballet flats
Paige and J Brands
DKNY cozys and jumpers
And probably more. blush

teta Mon 08-Apr-13 10:04:09

Brilliant [american brand] snow boots-waterproof,black with a furry lining, small heel,non-slip and really nice looking.I bought one pair for dd's skiing trip and said we would share.Of course we've had so much snow dd has tripped off to school in them most days.I've been forced to buy a pair of fugly non-slip Cotton Traders boots[after nearly slipping into the path of a juggernaut off our icy rural footpaths].If anyone goes to america buy a pair-they really are brilliant.

moondog Mon 08-Apr-13 10:15:37

TM Lewin shirts.
These are really very nice indeed and when you buy 3 they cost £25 each.

landofsoapandglory Mon 08-Apr-13 10:21:56

I have 3 of those Dorothy Perkins wrap style dresses from last year. one are pink, teal and red. I would like them do to it in navy too.

Piffpaffpoff Mon 08-Apr-13 15:48:20

I had a lovely top from Boden it was a heavyweight tshirt with sequin trim at the neck. Went with everything, could be dressed up or down, was superflattering. It finally fell to bits after 3 years and I was gutted. By the time I realised how good it was it was sold out and I've never seen one on eBay ever. sad

The tuxedo skinnies I'm currently wearing. Only from Primark but they are flattering, super comfortable and look really good on my massive slightly bigger bum. Went back for more but they'd sold out in my size sad

AphraBehn Tue 09-Apr-13 16:38:30

Might have to email Dorothy Perkins now!

foxysocks Tue 09-Apr-13 17:18:48

oh yes I bought more paige jeans in almost the same colour/shape once my first pair wore out. so flattering.

MostFamousMonkey Tue 09-Apr-13 17:24:11

A Coccinelle handbag that I bought a bit more than 10 years ago when Coccinelle was reasonably priced and great quality. The one I've got is a nude one. I just wish I'd bought it in black or brown and a bright colour too. It's the perfect size for me for an every day bag and it's been mistreated for a decade but still looks good.

BanoffeeSplitz Wed 10-Apr-13 19:24:04

V-neck ribbed merino cardigan that was £4.99 in the sale at Uniqlo about 5 years ago - bought to keep in my desk at work but actually I carry it everywhere, winter & summer.

The ribbing - it's sort of lacy not like tight ribbing - means it's so lightweight & soft that it folds up to scarf size & fits in a handbag and can fit under the tiniest jacket to add a bit of warmth. It's dull looking (was once smart) & doesn't go with everything, but mostly I just use it as an emergency layer so you wouldn't notice.

I dread losing it, it's starting to get a couple of holes which I've mended, I'm constantly looking out for a replacement, I'd happily buy something much pricier to replace it but I've honestly never seen anything like it, even in posh places that sell investment price cashmere.

And it was £4.99! I'd have bought the rackful, even in boring black, if I'd know how useful it was going to be.
