I would love a denim dress but it must;

Not be short (knee ish length)
Quite like the flared style as opposed to tight fitting
Long sleeves or some type of sleeves would be nice
I like indigo denim

Any ideas where I could find one?

Try fat face gap etc.

Jcee Mon 01-Apr-13 10:13:46

I just got the Gap dress Jcee linked to.
It's nice, but one sleeve kind of disintegrated after the 2nd wear confused.
It's not a seam, but the material proper, v odd.

I am going to have a moan about it to Gap although I don't know if they will do anything about it as it's worn.

Jcee Mon 01-Apr-13 10:22:19

Thats rubbish Pacific - hope you get your money back, sounds like you should. I'd been eyeing that one up too....<goes back to drawing board>

It is nice, good length, roomy enough to move, but still with a bit of a waist. I think I was unlucky. I did not notice a fault when I first wore it and now there is a 2 inch hole - I think I would've spotted that!

Pinkflipflop Mon 01-Apr-13 10:35:37

I like that dress! Can I ask what sort of length it is? How thick is the denim?

Pinkflipflop Mon 01-Apr-13 10:36:41

I love the pier one denim dress but not the shade! It's very close to what I want except for the colour!

jamaisjedors Mon 01-Apr-13 12:37:57

I think Esprit have one...

waxlyrical Mon 01-Apr-13 12:53:41

I have an indigo denim shirt dress from boden which I love. It Has proper long sleeves (no three quarter rubbish) and is knee length on me. I'm 5ft 3 so might be too short if youre taller.

QueenCadbury Mon 01-Apr-13 13:10:24

Not cheap but hobbs have this

GoingVerySlowlyMad Mon 01-Apr-13 13:24:11

Not indigo denim but saw this in Sainsburys at the weekend.

Pinkflipflop Mon 01-Apr-13 13:55:23

I really love the Hobbs one but it's a bit short at 84cm!

So hard to find one!

BikeRunSki Mon 01-Apr-13 14:08:44

i've got the Sainsbury's i've. I am toying with dying it darker, but for £20 i'm not complaining. It looks and feels a lot pricier.

ujjayi Mon 01-Apr-13 16:23:19

Boden version from 2 years ago. A few available on eBay. Lovely chambray fabric. Looks great layered with long sleeve tee beneath and boots for cooler weather; flip flops for summer. Sleeves are full length.

ellangirl Mon 01-Apr-13 17:03:19

Again not cheap but fair trade here not sure why in euros though? My local fair trade shop sells this brand so you could look at stockist list.

GoingVerySlowlyMad Mon 01-Apr-13 17:04:52

Couldn't myself and picked the sainsburys one I linked earlier when I nipped in for a bag of carrots. It's actually much darker than it looks online. I don't usually get on with shirt dresses so will see what it looks like later!

DCIlouisemonroe Mon 01-Apr-13 17:20:48

Great Plains have one this season.

BrunellaPommelhorse Mon 01-Apr-13 17:56:37

oh the HObbs one is vile - dont do that, plus the Gap one no good for anyone with tits

The Hobbs one is v serving wench imho. I don't like full ones, as they can look quite buxom milkmaid on anybody with norks. I like the shirt dress ones, especially over the knee. Mine is ancient and from Monsoon of all places. I'm now looking for a lighter, chambray one.

BrunellaPommelhorse Mon 01-Apr-13 18:03:12

I dont like ones that look Cell block H type
you have to look amazing not to look liek you are on remand

BrunellaPommelhorse Mon 01-Apr-13 18:04:17
BrunellaPommelhorse Mon 01-Apr-13 18:05:04

Ahem, I am blessed in the norks department (34G) and the Gap dress was fine from that point of view.

I am now feeling quite protective of it and want you to like it hmmgrin.

BrunellaPommelhorse Mon 01-Apr-13 18:05:24
BrunellaPommelhorse Mon 01-Apr-13 18:06:18

quite like this but its petite and a bit like you might be ready for Transportation Across the Ses[209820|208536]&noOfRefinements=1&siteID=0RpXOIXA500-ZurEXofqBcKzoVMj1a93oQ&cmpid=ukls_deeplink&_$ja=tsid:19906|prd:0RpXOIXA500

BrunellaPommelhorse Mon 01-Apr-13 18:06:25

I like the Mango one. The Oasis one is fine but the belt would need replacing with a nicer one.

BrunellaPommelhorse Mon 01-Apr-13 18:07:16

this is a bit Irish Laundries

The transportation one would be frightful on anybody over a size 8 and with norks bigger than an A cup.

And the Phase Eight one is bloody awful - like a cat lady dress. smile

Yes you see a Denim dress is No Easy thing

babybarrister Mon 01-Apr-13 18:33:21
Babyjaguar Mon 01-Apr-13 18:49:04

christ though, if they cant make it look nice on the model...

That JL one is frightful. Sorry to anybody who likes it!

I think they are all hideous tbh, other than the v basic/classic shirt style ones.

Babyjaguar Mon 01-Apr-13 18:57:00

The Dorothy link doesnae work

Babyjaguar Mon 01-Apr-13 18:57:31

that AA one MIGHT be so short it looks like you have forgotten your trews

smile I am a short arse though!

Babyjaguar Mon 01-Apr-13 18:59:57

( pm btw)

racingheart Mon 01-Apr-13 19:02:40

I saw one in Sainsbury's just the other day. Was quite surprised. It looked nice enough. Knee length. not too tight.

Babyjaguar Mon 01-Apr-13 19:03:46
racingheart Mon 01-Apr-13 19:12:27

yes, that's the one. It looked good on the hanger. Like a real 1970s dress. (I remember my mum's very trendy friend had one just like it.) Do you get lots of wear from it?

HousewifeFromHeaven Mon 01-Apr-13 19:13:06
marriedinwhiteagain Mon 01-Apr-13 19:16:58

I saw a nice one in Debenhams (Jasper Conran) about six weeks ago but didn't have time to try it on. Very similar to what you describe.

KandyBarr Mon 01-Apr-13 19:27:15
Selks Mon 01-Apr-13 19:34:41

Quite like this one despite not usually liking much Boden stuff.

GoingVerySlowlyMad Mon 01-Apr-13 19:45:57

Babyjaguar and racingheart just bought it today and I love it, very flattering and if you are quick they have 25% off at the moment so got it for £16.50. Took the belt off and put a tan leather one with it. Looks much better.

Easternightmare Mon 01-Apr-13 19:52:56

I bought the Tu one for my Mum (trendy Mum) in Indigo. It is lovely and quite a generous fit. Quite fancied it myself!

I like the Whistles one.

GoingVerySlowlyMad Mon 01-Apr-13 20:11:23

Remus that is lovely, wish I had the budget for that one.

marriedinwhiteagain Mon 01-Apr-13 20:20:17

Wish I'd tried on the Debenhams one now. the Boden one is my favourite out of all these but it's sold out.

Pinkflipflop Mon 01-Apr-13 20:54:44

this is exactly what I want except instead of it being fitted, I want it flared!!

I'm not hard to please at all!

Lots of lovely dresses there, but far too short!!

Pinkflipflop Mon 01-Apr-13 20:55:39

And if it has some sort of sleeves it would be better!

So it's really nothing like what I want then!!

saw this in TKMaxx and it was lovely.

marriedinwhiteagain Mon 01-Apr-13 22:04:21

Now that I like.

willowstar Mon 01-Apr-13 23:34:56

I have the sainsbury's one linked to earlier. I wear it for work and have had a couple of compliments on it. Very comfy and flattering n me.

I brought this oasis one today. It's fitted and then flares out and sits just on the knee. The colours at the bottom look much more subtle and flattering irl. I saw lots of people trying it on and they all looked great.

JumpHerWho Tue 02-Apr-13 14:24:29

I have one several years old from New Look, tis lovely. They have this on the website if any good?

JumpHerWho Tue 02-Apr-13 14:30:00

Also the Boakjen catalogue is next to me and a chambray dress is on the front. Overpriced, par for the course...

bunnymother Tue 02-Apr-13 14:32:04

willowstar there is no Sainsbury's near me, so will need to order online, or ask someone else to buy me one. How generous is the sizing? I am a small size 10, should I size down to 8 or stick with 10, do you think?

I just bought this. Looked lovely on.

Waferthinmint Tue 02-Apr-13 17:21:49

I just tried on the sainsburys one in a 16. It was quite big and made me look at least 3 stone heavier. I could compare it with an unflattering sack.
