i have it but do t see any difference when i use it???

Blackden Wed 27-Feb-13 07:39:30

It's supposed to be like a primer, smooth out your skin and make you look more radiant. It never did a thing for me except made my face look even oilier. What amazes me is that this product is still overhyped, 20+ years since it was first launched.

ggirl Wed 27-Feb-13 07:43:03

never understood this product
still have some in the cupboard

i wore it as a primer once and had loads of comments at work saying I looked ill !!

I was given a sample last time I bought Clarins and it just made me look a bit greasy tbh. I've heard good things from a colleague about the super cheap Nivea primer so I'm going to try that instead.

You have to apply it in a certain way. Dot it on your face (pea sized amount in total) and then very very lightly smooth it over. Do not rub in. The less touching the better. Lisa Eldridge describes this process as 'creating a matrix' and when it dries, it tightens your skin. I've used it for years and think its bloody marvellous.

cremeeggsrock Wed 27-Feb-13 07:52:03

you can use it as a mask 2-3 times a week! this is the way i used it, left it on overnight a few time aswell, did rehydrate my skin. but alas couldnt use it the 'proper way' either

Jammygal Wed 27-Feb-13 08:11:42

I found this great when I was in my early 20s but since getting older not so much!

PoppyAmex Wed 27-Feb-13 08:14:45

Origins Vitazing is the product that the flash balm is supposed to be, it magically evens out your complexion whilst hydrating. It's a thing of beauty.

Sugarice Wed 27-Feb-13 08:38:22

I feel this is one of the most over hyped products out there!

It was glittery and shiny on me and was not 'sleep in a bottle'! a waste of money ime.

deXavia Wed 27-Feb-13 08:49:46

It's the marmite of beauty! I love it - use it as a mask if you are tired or hungover, dot it on for normal days, shit I even used it on my bump when pregnant and ran out of cream. But I have very dry skin, so maybe it depends on what your skin is like

echt Wed 27-Feb-13 09:02:38

Isn't the tightening effect rice flour?

treaclesoda Wed 27-Feb-13 09:39:24

I've never got on with this product either, I tried to apply it in the 'proper' way, just using a little, not rubbing it in too much etc but I found it just felt sticky and heavy no matter how little I used.

polyhymnia Wed 27-Feb-13 09:44:05

I' m on the enthusiastic side. Use it just as Ifancy describes. Tautens my skin and gives it a glow. Must admit I ve never actually bought a tune as large sam

polyhymnia Wed 27-Feb-13 09:47:45

Sorry - iPhone sent it too soon! Was just going to say that for fans of product or who want to try it a good sized sample tube is often one of the 4 products you can choose as part of Clarins v good value gift with purchase promotions.

I use it sometimes just because I happen to have some but I wouldn't bother buying it again - it doesn't work any better than standard moisturiser IMO.

mrsyattering Wed 27-Feb-13 09:57:52

what ifacyashany said I love this and have been using it for about 15 years, use it every day. I have dry skin so I don't know if that makes a difference

MoetEtPantsOn Wed 27-Feb-13 10:00:46

I love it too. I out it on when I'm tired or hungover and then apply tinted moisturiser straight afterwards. I find you have to put your make up on super quickly afterwards otherwise it can go flaky. For example I don't even put lids back on liquid blusher, concealer etc until I've finished as I'm getting it done so fast.

Curtsey Wed 27-Feb-13 10:04:44

Never did a thing for me either. It's impossible to wear under make-up, no? Just causes the make-up to sort of curdle and cake!

chubbymomie2012 Wed 27-Feb-13 10:13:07

Oh good im delighted to see im not the only one who seems oblivious to This products benefits.mwill rtry the mask idea a couple of times see if that works. im sickened cos i stupidly bought the eye flash balm too thinking it would solve my dark circle problem . yes im an idiot. 😳

mrsyattering Wed 27-Feb-13 10:47:11

sorry that shout say what ifancyashandy!!

ifancyashandy Wed 27-Feb-13 10:50:06

Curtsey, if its 'lifting' your make up, it means you may be leaving too long a pause between applying the balm and your foundation. You need to nearly touch it - smooth, don't rub - and then apply foundation quickly afterwards.

I have combination skin that tends towards an oily t-zone and I think it a bloody miracle product!

Pandsbear Wed 27-Feb-13 11:47:27

I always have a tube of it on the go - often the ones from the offer packs - and find it works for me. Just makes my skin look more even and less grey. Don't use it every day but a few times a week depending on how I look first thing in the morning. I am the wrong side of 40 mind you and need a bit of a boost grin.

Ooh ifancy I never think about how long I leave it before putting my make up on afterwards - I'm expecting miracles tomorrow if I make sure I put my foundation straight on afterwards!!

shoeprincess2 Wed 27-Feb-13 12:18:58

Englishgirl- the Nivea express hydration primers are fantastic. I bought the normal/combination one when it was a third off at Sainsburys (so cost about £3.30). It really helps keep my makeup in place and I would go so far as to say that it is better than my MAC prep and prime stuff. I used to use the Clarins Flash balm, but as others have said, it made my skin look super oily and actually sat in my pores and exacerbated them. I used it as a mask, but then I have better products for that, so ended up throwing it away!

ifancyashandy Wed 27-Feb-13 12:36:29

Report back! grin

DewDr0p Wed 27-Feb-13 13:42:45

Oh I quite like it. Makes me look all radiant. Would use for a night out not every day though.

Yotamsrazor Wed 27-Feb-13 13:49:45

I couldn't tell any difference after applying it either. I use Smashbox or Benefit primers and they really do make a difference for me. Was very disappointed with the Clarins.

BlameItOnTheBogey Wed 27-Feb-13 13:54:07

I love it but only since I discovered the trick someone else mentions above which is to put it on and then very quickly apply foundation etc over. Then it makes your face look amazing and dewy. On its own it does nothing.

Now I'm considering wiping my face off and starting again now rather than waiting for the morning 'face session' - is that sad?

ggirl Wed 27-Feb-13 18:13:39

ok so I may be applying it wrong

i normaly use a stipple brush to apply my minute amount of foundation..willthis make the BFBalm pill?

I'm willing to give this stuff another go.

SweetieTime Wed 27-Feb-13 20:49:16

I was recently given a 15ml sample in a Clarins bonus gift. I have greasy skin and it did nothing for me last time I used it many moons. If anyone wants it please PM me and I will happily send it on. It is still sealed so not even opened.

ifancyashandy Wed 27-Feb-13 23:37:58

No, I use a brushnformfoundation with it but again, I smooth as oppossedmto stipple. Used it at the weekend. Walked into a party. THE ex was heard to say wow under his breath...

EmpressMaud Thu 28-Feb-13 10:29:00

I've used it since my late teens, it produces bright and fresh looking skin, I've found, if used very occasionally.
You need to put on a thin layer (don't rub into skin), then foundation over the top, though you have to be quick (I do an area at a time) as it can as applying when it has dried too much can make it, and your foundation, rub off, in bits <badly explained>

Guerlain's Midnight Secret is 'sleep in a bottle', however, at least I always thought so.

Back to update....

Used it this morning and put foundation on immediately after applying (as it said on the tube actually - doh). And I can actually notice the difference with it on now. My skin feels lovely and soft today and I think it looks a bit brighter/dewy....

Hard to tell if it's just me looking for it though - maybe I should put up a before and after pic grin

ifancyashandy Thu 28-Feb-13 11:29:57

Yay! A convert!! grin

ButteryJam Thu 28-Feb-13 11:39:56

Taking mine out to try too ... smile

alemci Thu 28-Feb-13 12:00:06

found it very good and use it from time to time. have never used it as a mask. how does that work?

FattyMcChubster Thu 28-Feb-13 12:08:45

You can mix it with your foundation you know, then you don't have to do it all quite as quickly.
Try not to rub it in, just smooth it on. You can always put more foundation on top afterwards if you need more coverage.

It's a fantastic mask if you have sensitive skin or a reaction to anything.

It's a radiance product so not suitable for people who like a matte finish.

LaalRatty Thu 28-Feb-13 14:48:07

Ok, if you don't rub it in and touch it as little as possible then aren't there parts of your face untouched? I have a tube that I have used 3 times and each time gotten a big spot on my chin. I rarely get spots so I really do think its the flash balm.

ifancyashandy Thu 28-Feb-13 14:59:57

I smooth it over my face and you want it to be thinner towards the outside edges.

EuroShaggleton Thu 28-Feb-13 15:35:24

I don't get this product either. Maybe I am doing it wrong too.

ChunkyPickle Thu 28-Feb-13 15:47:42

I've tried the various ways and don't think it makes much difference (yes, I even did the half/half face thing to check)

The one I do think is amazing is whatever the little pink cream that comes in a little red pot is - a tiny, tiny amount and it was like air-brushing my face - all smooth and lightly matt, went on smoothly (although, like the flashbalm didn't really rub in)

FattyMcChubster Thu 28-Feb-13 17:11:33

Chunky- its instant smooth. Neither are meant to sink in really. Think of instant smooth as poly filler- fills in pores and lines also helps makeup 'grab'.
