Anyone else watched the Red Carpet for the dresses.....

.....or is it just me that likes this shallow crap?!

Charlize looked great. I loved Jessica Chastain's dress. Brandi Granville was worst dressed and sorry to all the Jennifer Aniston lovers, but she did not suit that red dress. Jennifer Garner looked good in her Gucci dress. Jennifer Lawrence looked lovely, she is a young girl so perfectly fine to want to wear something more princess-ish.

Really? Nobody? blush or is it because I didn't think Jennifer A looked good....

ItsintheBag Mon 25-Feb-13 12:58:36

Jennifer Aniston was lost in that dress she needed to be way taller to pull it off.

The darts in the dress of Anne Hathaway made her look like she had hard nipples.

WTF what Brandi Glanville doing there anyway.God woman cover up.

Jessica Chastain and Charlize Theron and Sandra Bullock were the style winners for me and Jessica Lawrence necklace was lovely but I didn't love her dress.

I was wondering what Brandi was doing there, awful dress aside.

Yes, JA not tall enough for that dress and the colour was wrong. Jessica C and Charlize were best two overall.

ClaudiaCutie Mon 25-Feb-13 13:19:26

Agree with you completely (and I love the shallow crap). I was slightly taken aback at Jennifer Aniston's frumpy look, actually. Her upper arms are too thick for sleeveless (mine are the same, so I can say that) and her shaggy, floppy hair was far too casual. Anne Hathaway looked fantastic: gamine chic, but marred it a bit with that backwards necklace. Things have a 'right way around" for a reason.

Nicole Kidman looked gorgeous, although her husband is a tatty scruff who needs a scrub and a haircut. Quentin T the same. Make an effort, chaps. No good enough.

Loved the clever structuring in Naomi Watts' dress: beautiful, clever design. Dressed generally seemed a higher standard than usual with less frights & horrors. Jennifer Hudson was unrecognisable - I don't pay much attention to entertainment stuff normally, and recall her being a size 18 or thereabouts - so was very impressed how how slim and elegant she looked. I suppose this is old news, but the blue dress was superb on her. Very inspiring.

Renee Z has had some work done on her face, she looked lovely but quite different - I can't work out what exactly.

Brandi G (who?? had to look her up) had a horrible dress that was just embarrassing, presumably someone pressured her to wear that, awful.

Nice to see so many 60+ women looking fantastic (Shirley Bassey, Jane Fonda, Sally fields).

ItsintheBag Mon 25-Feb-13 13:25:15

Ok not strictly Oscars, but Elton John's after party.

Thought Khole K looked lovely.Half way down the page...

Kelly Osbourne looked a mess.

I love Naomi Campbell's dress and my goodness, Britney, I had to look twice! That's the best I've seen her look in ages.

Oh and agree about Naomi Watts, she is lovely anyway. The black and gold L'Wren Scott dress looked really good on Nicole Kidman.

noddyholder Mon 25-Feb-13 13:43:34

Loved JC too and Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence had lovely after party dresses. CZJ looked a fright way too blingy and her face is becoming scary.

Emma Roberts' dress looks fantastic on her, oh to be young!

BOF Mon 25-Feb-13 13:51:01

I thought Sally Field looked amazing- that train! Gorgeous. I loved the old school glamour of Jessica C too. Samantha Barks could have worn something a lot more special- she looked overwhelmed by the occasion and dressed as though she felt she didn't belong there, which is a real shame. Helena B-C did her entirely predictable eccentric bag lady routine. Nicole Kidman l

What on earth is Holly Valance wearing? She looks like she raided the Dynasty wardrobe for Krystal Carrington.

ClaudiaCutie Mon 25-Feb-13 13:51:15

Oooh. Couldn't stop self looking at EJ's afterparty link - dismayed that Heidi K's floppy boobs were out there for everyone to see: awful! She made Britney Spears look tasteful and restrained, which takes some doing. It's odd that a woman with faultless face and gorgeous hair like HK thought it was a good idea to get her boobs out like that. On a cheerier note, yet another person I've never heard of, Nina Dobrev, looked fabulously elegant and chic in a beautiful black & white dress.

BOF Mon 25-Feb-13 13:54:03

looked very beautiful, I thought. Amanda Seigfried, ok. Anne Hathaway looked elegant but nipply. Loved Reese Witherspoon.

But if Jennifer Aniston is considered beefy of arm, I may just kill myself.

Did Kristen Stewart forget to brush her hair?

BOF Mon 25-Feb-13 14:06:03

Nina Dobrev is absolutely stunning in that dress- so elegant. Mikey Cyrus looked great for a young woman, and didn't fall into that B-list cleavage trap. Whos Emma Roberts? She looked great too. It baffles me why some of these well-advised stars with access to the best designers still so often make the mistake of thinking that we want to see as much tit as possible.

I actually loved Kristen's dress, but she needed to sort her hair out.

I think that dress just didn't do any favours for JA. She has worn some lovely things in the past though.

Not sure who Nina Dobrev is either, but agree she looked good.

Heidi Klum, mean, the bust and the cut and the colour. She has a good figure, but she has been wearing some hideous clothing of late. The gold makes her look far too old.

PuffPants Mon 25-Feb-13 18:16:37

Jennifer Aniston looked gorgeous, I thought the red was sensational on her.

Anne Hathaway looked shockingly bad - who on earth styles her? Her after-party dress was even worse.

I thought JAnnistons dress was very meh. Almost looked like you could have bought it on the high street.

Apart from the nipple look, I loved what Ann Hathaway was wearing.

HazeltheMcWitch Mon 25-Feb-13 18:57:22

Nina Dobrev is on a TV Vampire thing. She's very elegant, I think.
AnneH's dress was a shocker. Valentino had released a statement to say that she'd be wearing them, but then she rocked up in that nipular Prada. Maybe last minute dress disaster? She's styled by Zoe thingy, IIRC.

Barely noticed Kristen's dress, what with all my focus being on wondering what she was on, and why does she not find something else to do with her hair.

I thought JLaw looked perfect. If I was a 22yo dead cert to walk away with an Oscar, (and looked like her), I'd wear princess-style Dior also. And I love her even more for falling over so elegantly, and for her 'normal' replies to the stupid questions she gets asked, esp in the post-Oscars photocall.

MsInterpret Mon 25-Feb-13 19:02:45

[] has great thoughts on all that shallow stuff!

I love these guys.

babybarrister Mon 25-Feb-13 19:31:18

Love dress on Anna Paquin at Elton's party

babybarrister Mon 25-Feb-13 19:37:05

Heidi Klum - rough as ... Saggy tits need a bra - hasn't someone told her thatgringrin - yes I have saggy tits myself and do wear bras

noddyholder Mon 25-Feb-13 19:44:04

My boobs are like hers and have never had any complaints

Cybbo Mon 25-Feb-13 19:48:36

I don't think they've been mentioned since the clocks went back grin

noddyholder Mon 25-Feb-13 19:50:05

grin Its the dress! I bet most of those criticising would look great in that dress hmm

Cybbo Mon 25-Feb-13 19:51:34

Aniston just looks so...Aniston all the time. She's too tanned to wear red.

And why doesn't Zellweger ever show her teeth {pursed lip emotion}

I liked Myley Cyrus! thought her hair and make up were lovely. Im aware she's only 14

Kidman looked a right state, soo dated . Like Bassey.

I'm ALLLLL about the surnames tonight

noddyholder Mon 25-Feb-13 19:52:53

Miley cyrus looked beautiful He rhair is a lesson in how to do short otherwise forget it! (Pat Butcher) Anne Hathaway is a bit like you cyb

CheddarGorgeous Mon 25-Feb-13 19:55:18

I am the same age as Heidi Klum and my tits are in much better shape than hers.

I do however have a ginormous arse

noddyholder Mon 25-Feb-13 19:57:58

How old is she? He boobs are big compared to her frame That makes them look saggy! I think most of us would love her body!

CheddarGorgeous Mon 25-Feb-13 20:31:20

39. Very few women of that age and norkage can go bra-less. Even supermodels.

Limelight Mon 25-Feb-13 20:42:18

I'm liking the surname thing too. Like Premier league football but with more fake eyelashes. I've been waiting to do this all day incidentally - no one in real life seems bothered. Pah!

The thing about Aniston is that her dress was a bit 'ok' but she just looked so bloody HAPPY. And normal (ish). So I think she looked great. Can't begrudge her tbh.

Kidman is becoming a caricature of herself - I'm sorry but I really hated that dress.

I don't even know where to start with Zellweger - frightful.

I thought Adams looked washed out - terrible colour.

Am I the only one (whisper) who doesn't get Lawrence's dress? It just looked uncomfortable and overwhelming to me.

Generally I don't get mad Stewart. Weirdly girly dress on someone who just isn't that girly and actually has a pretty boyish figure which was made even more boyish. Didn't like it sorry.

I want to like Seyfried but don't. Just a bit dull somehow.

Poor Hathaway. I really liked her dress (and especially her jewels!). But it will forever and ever be known as 'the nipple dress'.

Do we think Michael Douglas has some sort of showgirl fetish and CZJ and he are living in an elaborate role play thing?

Watts - sensational! Just glorious.

Theron - amazing and love love love her hair.

Chastain - glorious, old school, flawless.

I actually really liked what Samantha Barks wore (not sure she's famous enough for the surname treatment yet). She looked impossibly young but not in a 'princessy' way, and sort of very British actually but without looking like Bonham Carter (although i really liked her dress). Good on her.

An honourable mention to the more mature ladies. Field, Bassey I thought looked fab in a Bassey sort of way. Emmanuelle Riva looked sensational - great colour and I hope I look as wonderful as she does when I'm 80+.

So glad I've got that out of system!

cocolepew Mon 25-Feb-13 20:48:25

Kelly Osbournes see through pamel isn't very flattering.

Charlize's (sp) hair is epic.

cocolepew Mon 25-Feb-13 20:48:47

<sigh> panel.

Wishiwasanheiress Mon 25-Feb-13 20:56:04

You have to watch e online for their coverage. It's fab-u-lous. Love Ryan seacrest and Giuliana rancic views as so LA it's amaze-balls.

360 glam cams, mani-cams, I've been watching awards for 3yrs on it and its now a confirmed part of my year.... Just so bubblegum escapist. Makes me happy anyways ....blush

cocolepew Mon 25-Feb-13 20:58:21

Jennifer needs to sort her hair out and is her bf holding onto her stomach to start pregnancy rumours again?

HazeltheMcWitch Mon 25-Feb-13 22:23:16

limelight - agree with you re Barks (I like her too, so let's promote her now to surname status). I'd read on here ages ago about how impossibly thin her waist was in the film, and how she must have been corseted up to the max, and how it was anachronistic... But no, seeing her in that dress, she's just teeny tiny! I think her dress was perfect: she's new, she wasn't a nominee so could not go all out, and she wore a dress that made her natural beauty shine out.

Re Zellweger - she was WASTED. Did you see her present? First here then here Not good. Queen Latifah looked really concerned for her.

Loved Bonham Carter too. Last night I was watching the arrivals to the red carpet, where the stars have to pose on one spot for a few mins, then another, then another, for the photogs. Bonham Carter seemed lovely (and looked lovely), but looked like she really really does not enjoy that part of the job.

BOF Mon 25-Feb-13 22:46:47

She was disappointingly lacklustre in the singing bit, I thought- I would have preferred to see her get into character like Barks (love her, surname it is!), who really commanded the stage.

Limelight Mon 25-Feb-13 22:50:02

Samantha Barks will henceforth be known as Barks on MN.

Congrats Sam! Who needs an Oscar!

Finallygotaroundtoit Tue 26-Feb-13 06:43:45

Robin Roberts the winner - gorgeous blue gown

Jane Fonda stuck in an 80's time warp confused

Scrooled past Catherine Zeta Joones without recognising her - what has she done ? ! ?

Piffpaffpoff Tue 26-Feb-13 07:29:54

Holly Valance is dressing like an old lady, I noticed Catherine ZJ started doing this (and continues to do so) when she started going out with Micheal Douglas. All shiney gold and sparkly, very matronly frocks. There's no need for it. ( and yes, what has CZJ done to her face? It looks like actual surgery rather than just Botox/fillers etc.)

Thought Miley Cyrus looks great, Britney Spears was a revelation.

Sally Field'S dress would have been better, for me, without the ruffles round the bottom. They gave it a slight whiff of toilet roll doll IMO.

ErikNorseman Tue 26-Feb-13 07:55:28

Chastain looks stunning
Kstew - why? That hair is not good. I know she wasn't standing straight due to her foot but still. She looks like she's playing dress up.
Aniston looks lovely but should have put her hair up.
Love Hugh jackman's wife. She just doesn't give a fuck. If I was 15 years older than my DH and then he got famous and lusted after I'd be a bit o_O about being seen out with him on the red carpet.
Could there be less chemistry between clooney and his beard?
Adele should probably start showing a bit of cleavage. She's starting to look matronly. She's under 25 with a great rack. This is wrong.
Kelly O - purple hair - why?

And at the elton John party -
Baby furnish-John is adorbs
Miley Cyrus looks awesome
Anna paquin has baby twins envy she's stunning.
Valance - wtf???
And finally - rose McGowan sad such a shame.

Limelight Tue 26-Feb-13 09:37:07

Erik grin at Clooney and his beard.

Probably it's just another one of those Clooney relationships which will look good for a while and then disappear because nothing comes close to his pig (God rest his soul).

Or something.

BOF Tue 26-Feb-13 11:42:35

Was that grey Oscar De La Renta dress with the ruffles the same as the one Carrie Bradshaw wore in Paris near the end of the final SATC series? It reminds me of it anyway.

BOF Tue 26-Feb-13 11:43:17

Sorry, the one that Amy Adams was wearing! I forgot to specify.

HazeltheMcWitch Tue 26-Feb-13 11:50:17

I thought that, BOF (the one she fell asleep in, right?). But then when I went back to look, it's not quite how I remembered. In fact, I did not remember the bodice at all pic

Whilst on the subject of SATC/Oscars, how cool would it have been if J-Law had done the 'I fell in Dior' bit - to go with her previous quote from First Wives' Club of 'I beat meryl'.

BOF Tue 26-Feb-13 11:55:48

You're absolutely right- I did not remember the bodice like that at all!

BOF Tue 26-Feb-13 11:59:13

Ah, apparently that was Versace:

#2: Patricia Field's Favorite
Asked to identify her favorite piece, Field didn't hesitate to name the drop-dead Versace gown Carrie wore while waiting (and waiting) for Petrovsky on her first night in Paris, towards the end of season 6. "It took you out of reality," she said. Rubenstein agreed: "It's acres and acres of tulle and chiffon, in this darkly romantic color -- the perfect dress to be dumped in. There's nothing more woeful than seeing a beautiful woman all dressed up with nowhere to go."

inaworldofmyown Tue 26-Feb-13 13:27:41

I loved, loved, loved how Jennifer Aniston looked, thought the red went great with the tan and love her hair. Also thought Nicole Kidman looked beautiful and especially loved her hair and dress. Catherine Zeta Jones however needs to pack up the fags. Kirsten Stewart also beautiful. She looks just like my granddaughter.

I loved Amy Adams' dress, although I agree it was too pale for her. I admit, I faffed around yesterday watching E! to see the dresses properly. Jessica Chastain is still my overall fav and she comes across very well as a person to. She is very beautiful. I am envy. I love red hair too. I didn't see Pen Cruz there this year and she is normally gorgeous in everything she wears.
