hellohellohihi Sun 10-Feb-13 12:20:29

I always though fashion blogs were for teenagers but am realising this isn't the case! I desperately need some--one to copy-- inspiration and guidance so what blogs would you recommend for me? I liked the "does my bum look 40" one but keen to check out some others too if poss!

HanneHolm Sun 10-Feb-13 12:24:28

oh god there are twenty threads like this a day

hellohellohihi Sun 10-Feb-13 12:57:08

Thanks.

A couple of these seem a bit, well, 40ish (no offence!) so am looking a some that might be a few years younger??

Also, high street everyday stuff is more what I'm after!!

shopafrolic Sun 10-Feb-13 13:03:33

I'm a almost 29yr old who blogs?
I also really like coco mamas style and wendys lookbook. Oh and soso susie I think

TrampyPants Sun 10-Feb-13 13:16:38

I'm 35 and have just started blogging. The address is on my profile, I shan't link to it because it's againtoday the roolz. I love Susie soso too.

TrampyPants Sun 10-Feb-13 13:26:45

there are loads of Blogs to be found here

IKWYM though, I hate it when bloggers talk about thrifty and affordable, then wear gucci or a mulberry bag.

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 13:38:17

If you are on the mn bloggers network think its safe to say your own blog.

I do a collaborative one with other s&b'ers here but may be one of the ones you've thought was too old [chagrin] wink

Hanne really loves blogs - ask her for her faves wink

HanneHolm Sun 10-Feb-13 13:39:39

was that the blog that had to go underground ?!! wink

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 13:43:22

yes we are stealth bloggers - so many reports everytime it was mentioned wink

TrampyPants Sun 10-Feb-13 13:44:02

Mrs, I love the allwornout blog grin I know that hq are pretty strict now about links, this might be it though <innocent>

HanneHolm Sun 10-Feb-13 13:44:14

do you wear a "breton" stripey top to keep you incognito?

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 13:46:15

Did you use the 'b' word in s&b! You know what'll happen now don't you?

HanneHolm Sun 10-Feb-13 13:47:02

ill have to prat around in front of my mirror?

TrampyPants Sun 10-Feb-13 13:48:34

Hanne, nah. Don't own a breton top. The necks look weird.

HanneHolm Sun 10-Feb-13 13:49:50

lol

Trills Sun 10-Feb-13 13:53:46

I think we need to know a lot more about you than your age to know what you would like.

I also think you seem a little more fixated on age than you should be.

Some people your age dress "like teenagers". Other people your age will dress "40ish". And vice versa. There will be 40-something who dress "younger" than you want to, and people in their mid20s who dress "older" than you would like to.

Dress sense and style choices are about a lot more than age.

TrampyPants Sun 10-Feb-13 14:01:02

Trills is right. It depends on what style you are, whether you are high or low maintenance, whether you like primarily or prada.

TrampyPants Sun 10-Feb-13 14:03:53

MmeLindor Sun 10-Feb-13 14:16:04

Schoolgate Style is well written and features good photos. I don't follow many style blogs, and I do like them to be more than just a photo and a quick list of what they are wearing and where they bought it.

TrampyPants Sun 10-Feb-13 14:24:24

Mme, yes. Some are very dull. But some are really great.

MmeLindor Sun 10-Feb-13 14:31:04

This is my new favourite blog and not just cause it is a friend who writes it.

HanneHolm Sun 10-Feb-13 14:31:36

really?

MmeLindor Sun 10-Feb-13 14:34:47

Yes, I like her writing style, and the way she doesn't just blog her outfit 'This is what I am wearing today' but creates a little story around it.

Her photos aren't great but when she gets her new camera, they will be better.

MmeLindor Sun 10-Feb-13 14:35:47

and she is on this thread, so if you have a criticism, could you make it constructive smile

HanneHolm Sun 10-Feb-13 14:37:02

chirtt no, I couldn't do a blog

TrampyPants Sun 10-Feb-13 14:37:31

mme, smile

Hanne has just proven the point. Different people like different things and look for different things in a blog. And if you don't like Blogs, you won't like any. Nor are you obliged to read them.

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 14:49:01

I mostly like some nice photos, some nice links and not too much writing. But I have a short attention span and just want to look at nice combinations and follow the links.

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 14:49:33

And you need to be pretty brave and thick skinned to do a blog - especially when lovely mn'ers take a look at it wink

MmeLindor Sun 10-Feb-13 14:56:33

MrsCB
I hate blogs like that. Good that there are so many so that we all can choose what we want to read. smile

TrampyPants Sun 10-Feb-13 15:06:28

Yep. That's why I love Susie so so I like reading posts that sound like someone's talking to me, iykwim. I also like ideas for styles, not specifics.

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 15:08:02

I like Susie too but only skim the writing - I guess that's also why I like pinterest so much

MmeLindor Sun 10-Feb-13 15:12:01

ooh, I like that one, Trampy. That is THREE style blogs I am now following. Damn.

TrampyPants Sun 10-Feb-13 15:14:07

I like explanations. I bought this because.. I'm wearing this because.. I can't do pintrest.

Mme, its ace. I really like reading through. She has a similar style to me too.

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 15:19:38

Yes explanations are fine but I don't want to read pages of ramblings personally but as Mme says - good job there are so many out there.

Wendy and Atlantic good for just beautiful looks but of course it helps they look like models and get gifted a lot of gorgeous stuff.

Trills Sun 10-Feb-13 15:21:06

I would rather read some ramblyness - I prefer Nigella-style "I like to wear/cook this on Tuesdays when the moon is full" rather than Delia-style "here is a thing, this is how to make it/where to get it"

Must admit I'm liking Pinterest much more than blogs now. I can't actually think of a single blog I like lately. sad

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 15:24:13

Am looking forward to wit coming back post-baby

noddyholder Sun 10-Feb-13 15:24:47

I like pinterest too

MmeLindor Sun 10-Feb-13 15:24:48

I used Pinterest for a while but have lost interest a bit. Yes, Trills. I am more a Nigella style reader than a Delia.

And I have never baked a Delia cake that has been successful.

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 15:28:12

Really! Nigella's cakes are renowned for being rubbish - there's a site out there somewhere dedicated to correcting all the wrong measurements in her domestic goddess recipes.

What a put down though to refer to someone as more Delia than Nigella shock wink

Anyway I'm way more Mary Berry who quite frankly could take both of them in the cooking and fashion stakes.

Trills Sun 10-Feb-13 15:32:18

I don't read Nigella for the recipes, I read it for the ideas and the ramblyness. In the same way that it is very rare that I see an outfit on a style blog and go out and buy the actual item that I see.

I don't get her out when I think "I need a foolproof recipe for chocolate cake", I get her out when I want to spend some time thinking about food and reading about food.

This chocolate fudge cake is very good though

It's an analogy to show that we use different blogs or different books for different purposes.

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 15:36:32

I did get the analogy bit Trills wink I was making a joke smile

MmeLindor Sun 10-Feb-13 15:36:33

Oh, I meant from a writing perspective, not from a cake baking one. I don't think I have tried a Nigella recipe.

I discovered recently that my mum has an original Mary Berry cookbook

MmeLindor Sun 10-Feb-13 15:37:21

XP
grin

TrampyPants Sun 10-Feb-13 15:38:14

Yes. A while back I found a blog and loved the outfit. I spent ages trying to get all the bits to put together my own version. I didn't want to wear the bloggers outfit, I wanted to create my own. In the same way, I rarely stick to a recipe. I always fiddle with it and tweak it until it suits me.

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 15:39:44

I do love Mary. But she writes a lot for agas which I have and can be tricky to bake with.

Agree Nigella's writing is fab - How to Eat one of my favourite cookery books. But don't ever rely on her measurements for cakes or flapjacks [how many wasted oats due to that recipe]

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 15:40:58

It could be the newest insult on S&B though when someone posts a link, we can say its 'a bit Delia' [passive aggressive smiley face] wink

MmeLindor Sun 10-Feb-13 15:43:31

Ha at 'its a bit Delia' as an insult.

Love reading Nigella - and her chocolate Guinness cake is out of this world. Delia makes me want to throw things.

That isn't helping me find a blog I like though! I hate the 'mumsy' one and the hyper expensive stuff on the beautiful Wendy's site just makes me too envy. Bum is okay at times but very samey and she doesn't half witter on.

MarshaBrady Sun 10-Feb-13 15:50:59

Wendy was great for a bit, but then well it gets a bit samey even when it's not. The loveliness of it, floating round California (is that where she is) and looking off to middle distance. Good depth of field on those shots.

I do pinterest for fast images.

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 10-Feb-13 15:57:53

Remus - perhaps blogs just aren't for you. I go through phases at looking at a few regularly and then forget all about them especially at the beginning of the month when all the new magazines come out.

MmeLindor Sun 10-Feb-13 16:52:08

I think that style blogs do get a bit samey, especially if they are mainly images. There are only so many new clothes and poses that they can come up with.

HanneHolm Sun 10-Feb-13 17:02:04

i dont READ cookery books or blogs or Hello!

Im obv a visual learner

HanneHolm Sun 10-Feb-13 17:02:18

bankers wives with scarves

all of em

MarshaBrady Sun 10-Feb-13 17:11:52

I don't mind the same poses. I just looked at Wendy it is gorgeous. But I feel like I'm glazing over at it a bit.

I like the twentymum one below. But it is nice and short. Meh to reading.

joliejolie Sun 10-Feb-13 17:17:31

I LOVE All Worn Out, but mostly because I seem to have a similar style and it's nice to see how they mix things up. I do blame them for my lust for a certain Zara coat, but I ended up getting it for less than half price in the sale, so it all worked out in the end!

Just checked today and I have the same navy blazer in a L, but it's tight and barely covers my tum. Hopefully that's how it's meant to fit asvher pics sort of suggest it. Hopefully that's the case. Sigh.

applecrumbleandcream Sun 10-Feb-13 17:25:54

Some are just sooooo dull and boring though. I like the blogs were they also blog about beauty products and reviews, shoes, nail varnishes, food, hairstyles, children.......I like a good read!! For me they must have an amusing style of writing. Blogs are meant to be fun. I don't like the ones where the clothes are usually way too expensive and out of my budget. I like the high street ones and I don't even mind if they are too young for me, I'm just nosy and like picking up ideas, ie scarves, statement necklace, etc.

Chugchug Sun 10-Feb-13 17:39:17

Try these, some are older some younger but a good mix of styles I think.

applecrumbleandcream Sun 10-Feb-13 17:46:13

Thanks Chug love the last two.

I like the glam and glitter too, but she is so bloody pretty she'd look good in a bin bag!

Chugchug Sun 10-Feb-13 17:51:53

Wasn't sure what kind of thing u were after sona bit of a random mix glad you found something. They're both around your age too.

MarshaBrady Sun 10-Feb-13 17:52:05

Oh yes that's good, hadn't seen that before.

Chugchug Sun 10-Feb-13 17:56:52

Oops apple was thinking u were the op there. Yeah Amber know what you mean, she can be a bit hit and miss the odd time though, but she's currently at NYFW so doing something right!

applecrumbleandcream Sun 10-Feb-13 17:57:53
MarshaBrady Sun 10-Feb-13 17:59:28

Got a bit further, yep see what you mean.

How about camille over the rainbow.

Nice stuff on there.

applecrumbleandcream Sun 10-Feb-13 18:00:01

No thanks Chug, the last two are great. I did follow glam and glitter for a while but it wasn't doing anything for me.

G&G good for accessories but clothes can be dodgy - think this is because she gets and wears a lot of questionable freebies...

petitdonkey Sun 10-Feb-13 22:26:04

So I've just come back to MN after a long break: W&A appears to be missing and it's all about blogging.... I feel like a right old gimmer!!

Back to Pinterest I think (but I can't share excitement over recent purchases there!!!)

Seriously though, some great links which I shall be perusing. Love Allwornout and am trying to guess the W&A ladies in a slightly stalkerish fashion!!

petitdonkey Sun 10-Feb-13 22:36:55

But damn you, I've just bought the Marc by Marc Jacobs dragon skin scarf....

Chugchug Sun 10-Feb-13 22:50:05

Yes know what you mean amber she seems to go from one end of the scale to the other. Im always surprised she's in the uk though as she never seems onbe very wrapped up when it's freezing outside. She must change after she takes her photos.

MrsCampbellBlack Mon 11-Feb-13 06:16:11

Petit - hello! I've often wondered how you are and what you've been buying. I'm traceybath on pinterest if you can find me as would love to follow you.

lurkingaround Mon 11-Feb-13 09:48:33

I find I go on and off blogs, I suppose with one person writing/photoing about their own style all the time it does become "done", iykwim, and then I move on to another blog. Possibly the reason I like Allwornout! Love it.

Currently I like 2 other blogs in particular. I like The Frugality blog, nice mix of home and clothes, not too much writing, but well written (am obv a more of a Delia person blush). And I like Le Catch, she has a great eye I think. My friend likes bourbon and pearls, we're all different.

Am looking forward to reading amber's, keep my sorry 40-odd ass up to date!

lurkingaround Mon 11-Feb-13 09:51:21

When I say 40-odd ass, that's a measure of my age, not a measure of my ass. (Altho......blush)

petitdonkey Mon 11-Feb-13 10:26:33

<<waves at MrsCampbellBlack>> - Think I've found and just followed you - my first name is Rebecca. Bizarrely there is a 'Tracy Bath Campbell' - any relation??

Hopefully Mon 11-Feb-13 11:47:45

Lurking I'm the same with style blogs - I think inevitably that stylish women have a 'look' that they've found works for them, so they do variations of it. After a while it gets a bit samey. I fully expect to hit that stage with my own blog, haven't entirely thought up a solution yet...

Amber's blog is fab - she is way cool.

MrsCampbellBlack Mon 11-Feb-13 12:01:40

Following you back petit - and how funny re the other tb.

I think blogs do get samey and not sure there is a solution or even if there needs to be one. That's why I'm most drawn to ones with people with a similar size/style to mine.

I mean I love doesmybum but couldn't wear any of her stuff as she's about a foot taller than me.

lurkingaround Mon 11-Feb-13 12:11:05

I follow your blog Hopefully, it's great, I love it, you are completely different colouring to me but same shape, so it's doubly interesting for me! Thought you looked great in your Me and Em dress.

Hopefully Mon 11-Feb-13 12:16:22

Thanks Lurking. I am actually contemplating a third me&em cap sleeved ruched dress, but realised that I would probably never wear anything else ever again if I did. Which would make for a slightly dull blog, possibly. (Although maybe I could get sponsorship from Me&Em).

Avenue57 Mon 11-Feb-13 12:22:30

All my clothes are high street. I blog once in a while about what I wear and what other styles I like - feel free to come and look

I am the queen of bargain shopping!

Not sure I am able to post my link though? I'll do it but expect it will be deleted - search for Avenue 57 on blogger
