Anyone interested in a 'what we are buying'wearing' thread for those of us who love clothes but have a New Look/Dorothy Perkins/Primark/HM budget?

I love following some blogs and I liked lurking on the AW threads but I can never afford the clothes, shoes and bags that are talked about. I love looking at different styles and then have the challenge of trying to find a cheaper look on the cheaper end of the high street. I'd love to hear what others are finding to give me some ideas.
One of the blogs I follow is, I love Kat's style and whilst she has the odd bit from Primark or H&M there is a lot of Toast, Massimo Dutti, Jigsaw, Whistles and these are just too expensive for me.
So, does anyone fancy sharing tips on good finds on the budget highstreet?

MimikosPanda Sat 02-Feb-13 21:06:25

Sorry, not sure what happened in that title! I didn't type "H&am p;M budget?"

Sounds good, are you happy to include supermarkets in that list too? I'm mostly fitted out by Sainsbury's at the moment, if nothing else I find the long sized jeans fit me quite nicely, without showing off my never recovered from two children midriff off too much.

Spookey80 Sat 02-Feb-13 21:12:03

Yes! I'm in.

Februaryfun Sat 02-Feb-13 21:12:57

Sounds like the thread for meeee

MimikosPanda Sat 02-Feb-13 21:16:06

I love Sainsburys, especially their bras. I think they are the best supermarket for underwear, far better quality than Asda. I wish they would put the clothes online though because I get lots for the DC from there too.

This week from Sainsburys I got a purple t-shirt bra which fitted like a glove and two pairs of matching knickers for £8. I've had t-shirt bras from them before so know it should keep its shape and last for ages.

I'm bit over Asda clothes at the moment, they just never seem to have anything I like in, but I keep going in to have a browse anyway. The town I've moved to doesn't have a big Tesco so I'm missing my Tesco clothes shopping sadly, but sometimes I order online and do the click and collect. My winter boots this year are Tesco, they aren't real leather, but I've had lots of compliments on them and they were only £18.

OnlyWantsOne Sat 02-Feb-13 21:19:18

My friend was wearing a lovely shirt dress from TU

it was black and white will see if I can link

Spookey80 Sat 02-Feb-13 21:22:13

I'm Definately in, but am also trying to be bit more 'investment' with my small budget. My last purchases were a cashmere swing tunic jumper from uniqlo that was on the sale. Very simple, but so warm and snug. And I also bought a lovely shirt type top from the indigo bit of m&s(had a gift voucher to use). It's also quite simple, but I was bored of winter stuff and needed a spring purchase, it has silver thread running through (sounds crap), but with a warm cardi it made a change with my usual skinnies and boots that I seem to put on most days throughout the winter.
In fact I've basically rotated my 3 fave skinnies with boots this winter( sometimes I wear a jumper dress), and I'm now in need of a new pair of skinnies as mine have gone a bit baggy at the knees- any recommendations?

If DS2 is with me, sitting in the trolley seat, and manages to tug something into the trolley, it's a fair bet it's a winner. He's done this three times with tops I've been looking at from the sale rail and I've been complimented every time. Two patterned floaty-light tops and a stripey tee-shirt.

I've never tried their bras though, might have a look next time I'm in.

RedPencils Sat 02-Feb-13 21:24:22

This is me! The clothes are always super expensive.

Today, Dotty P jeans, H&M jumper. Bra Bravissimo and knickers Tesco.

MimikosPanda Sat 02-Feb-13 21:31:48

I guess I should say what I do wear then, I seem to have fallen into a bit of a uniform really. Most of the time I'm wearing

tan or grey boots (somewhere between cowboy and chelsea boots in style) skinny jeans (dark wash, indigo, burgandy)
layers of vest tops
long sleeve, slighty swing top with scarf

Otherwise I am scruffy in converse, jeans, t-shirt and a hoody - not my best look because I am starting to look to old for it (33 rather than 23 sad )

My going out look is similar to Kat from doesmybum here or here but is irrelevant really as I never go out!

I struggle to finish outfits well because the odd cheap pair of printed Primark skinnies with a Micheal Kors watch and an LK Bennett pair of boots can look good, the cheap pants with cheap Tesco boots and a watch from New Look doesn't work as well grin

ElectricMonk Sat 02-Feb-13 21:34:35

Yes - great thread idea! My most recent purchase was actually a pair of purple shimmer 8 hole Dr Martens, which is very extravagant by my usual standards. I think they're worth it though, because I recently realised that they help to stabilise my very weak and clunky ankles, and they're a bit more appropriate for S/S than my black patent pair.

I'm now trying to work out what I can wear with them when the weather improves - does anybody have any ideas? At present I have: lovely indigo skinny jeans, a few nice skirts (denim micro-mini which demands leggings underneath, Aztec print midi in black and cream, and a few a-line wrap skirts made of patchwork silk), and lots of Primark vest tops. Also, a nice cropped denim jacket, a pale pink silk blazer, and a cream blazer.

I'm thinking of buying a v-neck cardigan from Fat Face in cream to go with jeans, and I really want some long hippy skirts (you know, the fair-tradey sort that used to be really easy to find at street markets in Bristol, Bath etc). I'd be really grateful if anybody has other suggestions for making the Docs look right with S/S clothes, or indeed where to find long floaty hippy skirts for sensible money! In case it's relevant, I'm about 5'2, size 10, early 20s, very very pronounced hourglass shape, with Mediterranean colouring, and I don't wear anything shorter than 2" above my knees...

MimikosPanda Sat 02-Feb-13 21:36:03

Spooky My indigo skinnies are from DP and I love them so much I'm on my 3rd pair, they are either the Bailey or the Brooke, I can't tell from the pictures online. My burgandy ones are YesYes from New Look and I am amazed at how well they have kept their shape. The girl in the shop told me to size down and I think she was right, they still fit great.

survivingwinter Sat 02-Feb-13 21:42:14

That's my budget too! I'm liking some of the labels DP is stocking at the moment - Purple, Izabel etc. Got some nice things in the sale from there and H & M!

Don't know what's happened to DPs skinnies though - lived in mine from last year but need a new pair and they're suddenly all baggy around the thigh when I tried some on confused

MimikosPanda Sat 02-Feb-13 21:43:05

Electric NewLook usually have some nice tea dresses in once S/S properly comes in. Your docs with tights, a tea dress and a pretty cross body handbag would look cool, I like masculine docs being teamed with pretty prints and girly bags. Tea dresses look amazing on hourglass figures too.

survivingwinter Sat 02-Feb-13 21:45:33

ElectricMonk have you tried Gloucester Rd in Bristol for floaty ethnic stuff?

This is a brilliant idea for a thread!

Today - a H & M knitted purple jumper dress with apron pockets, thick black tights from Sainsburys, and debenhams knee high black leather boots.

MimikosPanda Sat 02-Feb-13 21:49:43

Would also love some tips on what budget cosmetics are worth trying. I love painting my nails, its a cheap treat to make myself feel like I'm looking good and love trying new colours, despite predictably always reverting to shades of nude and browns, but don't like to waste money on trying new brands if I don't know if they will be any good.
I like Rimmel and Maybelline but I've seen some cheaper brands in Superdrug and can never decide if I should give them a try.

I've tried MUA and Miss Sporty Nail varnishes from Superdrug and both have chipped quickly, the MUA one had a terrible brush too, random bristles sticking out sideways.

RedPencils Sat 02-Feb-13 22:03:29

Not sure about cosmetics but I'm completely converted to Aldi skincare. I used to be a Clarins/Clinique snob before I had two smalls draining my bank account every month.

Sadly with nail varnish I think you have to spend more to get the good stuff. Cheap brands just don't last as long.

MimikosPanda Sat 02-Feb-13 22:08:07

Thanks WhoKnows

Top of my wishlist at the moment for clothes are jeans like these Selma Blair is wearing I have a top like that and converse would go I think, but haven't seen any jeans.

I think with nail varnish you need to pay around £4+. I often buy them on 3 for 2 in Boots and have had good ones from Rimmel, Maybelline, 17, L'Oreal (the tiny bottle ones) and Revlon (also the tiny bottle ones). I don't think spending more than about a fiver necessarily gets you better quality. Rimmel are probably my overall favourite.

MUA eyeshadows are fabulous though, going back to the budget brands.

I wish there was an Aldi near me, nearest is about 25 miles away so I've never been.

I don't buy supermarket clothes but I have some bits from H&M.

Revlon nail varnish is excellent imho - just as good as the expensive stuff.

I'm probably not allowed on here, but I really rate Barry M for nail polish. Better than Chanel IMO. Rimmel and Mavala also good.

MimikosPanda Sat 02-Feb-13 22:36:18

Amber Everyone is welcome! just don't tempt us with lovely expensive and gorgeous things we can't afford wink

iamabadger Sat 02-Feb-13 22:41:15

Barry M nail varnish is very good. I have had problems getting good non streaky coverage with the light pastel shades they do but the darks and brights last brilliantly.

iamabadger Sat 02-Feb-13 22:42:36

Also ASOS have some well priced things. The quality of there own brand clothes has declined recently, but the ASOS brand shoes are fabulous and they also have Vero Moda which is nice.

lurkingaround Sat 02-Feb-13 22:46:24

I really like Revlon stuff. Their Colourstay foundation is my very-close second favourite makeup. Good colour selection, (not orange!) great staying power, does exactly what it says on the tin.

H&M have some nice things atm.

MimikosPanda Sat 02-Feb-13 22:50:53

I'm hoping to have a good look around H&M tomorrow because it has been too long. I'm visiting friends and hoping to call in to the big mall nearby. Not sure if DC will be willing but I'll try.

Andwhenyougetthere is the purple jumper dress a recent buy?

I live in the back of beyond, and the only city close to me has very limited shops (not even Gap or Zara), so H&M is one of my main shops for clothes. I stopped shopping in DP & Topshop a while ago. I am also very short which makes finding clothes tricky.

MiaCulper Sat 02-Feb-13 23:02:09

I have three pairs of these H&M skinnies in black, navy and burgundy. They have been fantastic - kept their colour and shape after numerous washes.

VivaLeBeaver Sat 02-Feb-13 23:07:35

I'm currently wearing this

Its a bit more expensive than my usual Primark, H&M stuff but it looked nice online. Wasn't sure when I ttried it on at home as I'm a size 16 and wasn't sure it was very flattering. But decided to keep it. Wearing it with leggings.

applecrumbleandcream Sat 02-Feb-13 23:48:10

Great thread! Was getting a bit sick of the 'Manolo Blahnik/Louboutin competitiveness/who's the most stylish MN' shit on S&B lately! I also tend to find clothes from Toast, Massimo Duti, Whistles a bit on the dull side!!

I don't usually buy many clothes but lately I've had a bit of a splurge. I needed a new coat for work and found a black boucle biker coat which was only £40 and looks similar to the ones sold out from Zara, a pink bobbly jumper and some skinny jeans from Next.

Today I have been ice skating with dd for her birthday and I wore my coated DP snake print black jeggings which are absolutely the comfiest jeggings I have ever worn, River Island fluffy cream jumper and a spiky necklace from H & M.

I also love Revlon and Rimmel nail varnishes, MUA eyeshadow palettes, the new Rimmel Apocalypse lip lacquers and my skin care is Nivea Daily Essentials moisturiser £2.99. I do tend to splurge on foundation (EL Double wear) and mascara (Clinique High Impact).

chubbymomie2012 Sun 03-Feb-13 06:27:40

I love F&F from Tesco, probably because with 4 wee ones its my only chance to shop! recently bought a cotton ditsy print tunic but it actually feels silky the cotton is so soft. also got the £20 brown knee boots from tesco this winter.
P.S. love this thread idea well done!

coldcupoftea Sun 03-Feb-13 07:25:11

I've not shopped in New Look for years but allowed myself an impulse buy yesterday when I saw this in the window. £12.99!! And it is lovely, it is a lovely shape and the material feels nice. I have a cream Fat Face cardigan bought in the sales that I will wear it with, and leggings.

issimma Sun 03-Feb-13 07:48:47

Great thread!
MUA eyeshadow palettes are great, and I rate Rimmel lipsticks (the moisturising one).

I'm looking for flat, suede tan ankle boots if you see any on a budget.

chubbymomie2012 Sun 03-Feb-13 08:35:33

Coldcup, i love that dress. I might have to buy that online. x

DillyTante Sun 03-Feb-13 08:39:15

Great thread. My budget is zero/charity shop at the moment but it is my birthday coming up soon.

PeggyGuggenheim Sun 03-Feb-13 08:56:36

I suspect this thread will become a permanent fixture. Excellent! I'm an H&M person when I do shop (sadly not as often as I'd like). I don't like most of Tesco stuff but the things I do have, I love. Amazingly well made and they wash fine. Nothing recently but I've got my eye on some navy blue cigarette trousers (with a narrow red belt) that I suspect are going to be very good.

carmenelectra Sun 03-Feb-13 09:02:18

I absolutely love H and M and always have. I buy so much from there! The prices are great and they are always a little bit 'different' than the rest of the high st. I bought a coat before Xmas and no exaggeration, nearly everytime I go out in it someone asks where its from. Strangers in the street.

I also buy dc's a lot of stuff from H and M as I think they are funky for kids. And dp has tshirts, boxers etc from there too.

Dorothy P's used to be frumpy. Not now. They have so much nice stuff. Lovely accessories and bags too.

New look used to look like tat I think, but they are great now. They have lots of great little dresses in there that are only about 20 quid ish. I got 2 dresses a while ago which were absolute bargains. And I just bought a pair of hi waist jeans which I've never tried before and didn't think would suit me. New lOok bras fit me very well too.

Supermarkets often have good stuff too. Though they can be hit and miss. Asda don't tend to fit me great. I got two pairs of boots from tesco recently, mega cheap.

Re nail varnish.....I've tried lots and find Revlon and Boots no 7 the best for application ( nice wide brush).... My tip for longer lasting is use a decent top coat though.
I shop everywhere. I think when buying cheap look at the fabric content.....I'm a bit of a stickler for that. I don't buy plastic shoes or acrylic, and am a bit weary of polyester. But I've bought some great pieces ( which people assume are more expensive) in H and M, Matalan, DP etc.

QueenCadbury Sun 03-Feb-13 09:19:14

I'm on the other thread too and although it's mostly all out of my budget I love it for inspiration as they all seem to have a great eye for colour and detail.

My recent buy was these shoes to wear out with black cropped trousers.

Nail varnish wise, the best I've found is Rimmel, mavala and nails inc (I especially love their top coat). I was incredibly disappointed in chanel who do the most wonderful colours and I saved my boots points and it chips and peels within minutes.

I agree about the decent top coat for nail varnish, I always use one and most of my colours last 5-6 days with it, but the MUA was badly chipped in 24 hours. Miss Sporty was watery and streaky. I also find Barry M chip and wear easily but they have some fabulous glitters.

wasabipeanut Sun 03-Feb-13 09:32:57

Fab thread! I do buy some higher end stuff although by high end I mean Zara and Baukjen not Toast or the like. I also get bits from H & M, Sainsbury's, T K Maxx etc. I have a couple of pairs of Sainsbos skinnies that have kept their shape better than ones costing 3 times as much. Knee baggies afflicts me quickly as an kneeling to change DS2 all the time.

I have a bright red mac from H & M which was a brilliant buy. It's so flattering and gives me a great hourglass figure. I get loads of comments on it smile Not bad for £30!

I love charity shops too. Not second hand, vintage darling! I think if tasked way more imagination and style to look great on a lower budget.

Mimikos Avon is good for long lasting nail varnish. They are around £6 full price but there are always offers on, this month they were £3.50 and you got a free nail file and buffer with them.

wasabipeanut Sun 03-Feb-13 09:46:01

Please excuse iPhone typos....

cocolepew Sun 03-Feb-13 09:54:19

Next has those type of jeans that Selma Blair has on in the link. They are called tapered and, I think, about £30. I was eyeing them up yesterday.

Has anyone tried the cigarette type trousers from Next? They have them in grey, black and navy.

MimikosPanda Sun 03-Feb-13 10:07:08

Wow, I'm thrilled the thread has had so many responses. I was going to be brave and post it awhile ago but was bothered there'd be no replies! Woyld love it if it continues, so many of us shop in this budget range and there seems to be so little magazine or blog wise that caters for that price range.

ColdCup That dress you linked to is lovely, I have an almost identical one from there just in a different print. Its a great dress style bevause it can be dressed up or down really easily. Think I paid about £22 for mine so you got a bargain.

Wasabi I think I have the same H&M mac, I loved it in red but was cowardly and got it in navy. YY to hourglass figure, very flattering on. Had a lot of compliments too including one friend who asked if I minded if she bought it too. She had to track one down though because they'd nearly sold out.

Today I'm wearing, though still in bed actually because DH has given me a lie in, so will later be wearing:

Denim mini skirt, worn low slung on hips - Next@ebay
Brown opaques - Home bargains
Ugg style sheepskin boots -Bearpaw@TKMaxx
Vest tops - Primark & Matalan (wear several, am cold blooded!)
Pocket long sleeve top - Primark
Scarf - Primark

My tights from home bargains were only £1.60 so today will be a test to see if they are any good. If they are I'm going back to stock up whilst they still have them. They had brown, grey and black.

I know ugg style boots are a bit like style marmite these days but because I'm so cold all the time I do wear my Bearpaws more than I should.

MimikosPanda Sun 03-Feb-13 10:10:59

Thanks Coco I'll try to get into a Next today and look out for them. I think they'd make a great summer casual alternative to my skinnies.

Just marking place, def my kind of thread too! Will get stuck in later smile

mrgarybarlow Sun 03-Feb-13 10:18:21

The nail varnish from peacocks is the best I've ever tried. Its in an OPI shape bottle and doesn't chip. I've got some bright red on and not a single chip after 2 weeks and I batter my nails so usually chipped within the day!!

Spookey80 Sun 03-Feb-13 10:22:27

Issima- what size are you. I have just seen the most gorgeous pair of white stuff flat tan, lace up ankle boots on eBay, currently going for a tender. They look brand new. I am very tempted myself?
Mimikos, your style sounds exactly the same as me. I am also a cold bod so in this winter I have tried to buy a few uniqlo (online, no uniqlo near me)heat techs and a few warm jumpers that are really comfortable. I bought a gorgeous white stuff one which is a burnt orange colour, still there on sale, and a couple from gap so that i dont wear hoodies! I also have a rule and are only trying to buy things when I have a discount code. It's also important that I don't feel too precious when the kids get snot and other mucky stuff on me! I wouldn't want to feel worried all the time. It's only clothes after all!?
I will have a try in DP for the skinnies, thanks.

cocolepew Sun 03-Feb-13 10:26:59

I haven't tried them myself but Primark supersoft skinnies for £11 are always raved about.

I fancy the tapered jeans myself, I think I 'm too fat for skinnies and I love ankle skimmers.

Spookey80 Sun 03-Feb-13 10:27:35

The other thing I am after is a few jumpers that are kind of box shaped, ifyswim, so a bit looser. Would like some nice ones.
Issima, I didn't put the size, they are a 5, if you are interested?

Spookey80 Sun 03-Feb-13 10:29:09

I have also been thinking I could do with a pair of boyfriend style jeans, to turn up for spring,,,,.but have realised that I have several pairs in my wardrobe that are straight leg that I ditched for my beloved skinnies, but think may fit the job, so I'm gonna look them out I think?, or does that sound naff?

Engelsemama Sun 03-Feb-13 10:35:29

Marking my place. My wardrobe definitely needs an overhaul (and am heading back to the UK next weekend for some family time shopping so need some tips!).

MimikosPanda Sun 03-Feb-13 10:36:17

The SusieSoSo blog suggests using old straight leg trousers, so you might be on to a winner there.

Engelsemama Sun 03-Feb-13 10:39:28

Thanks for the H&M skinnies recommendation Mia. Am going to check them out (and just found them on the Dutch H&M website for 10 euros smile )

AlwaysReadyForABlether Sun 03-Feb-13 10:49:04

Thank goodness for this thread. I was beginning to think I was the only person on here who goes to 'normal' shops. I've asked before about High St shopping - but some people's high streets are obviously very different to mine!

kissyfur Sun 03-Feb-13 10:57:22

I'm joining in too, made it my resolution to smarten myself up a bit as was feeling v scruffy and bored of my 'look' (had DD2 in November so still have baby weight to lose and huge boobs to accommodate)blush would love some inspiration!

Meglet Sun 03-Feb-13 10:59:36

I'm in. I need to get new jeans as I exist on 2 pairs and one pair has a hole in the knee. I did see some higher-waisted slim jeans in New Look a few weeks ago so I'm going to investigate them.

TBH I do really well out of the sales these days, I've even dug out some gems in the TU sale rail.

kissyfur Sun 03-Feb-13 11:01:02

Oh and I've just bought some black and indigo jeggings from oasis which are really nice with lots of stretch and only 28 pounds. Also a cream peplum jumper with crystals around the neckline from next, doesn't sound great on paper but v flattering to a post baby tummy!

FrantasticO Sun 03-Feb-13 11:01:11

Can I join please?

This is my type of thread!
I'm a mix of high street and sadly no designer!

Looking for new footwear as my fake uggs will not cut it when we get into spring. [ hopeful]

Ideas appreciated... Scared I get mum boots which are spoken of on here!
Wear skinnies, straight leg jeans or leggings with jumper dresses.

Meglet Sun 03-Feb-13 11:01:40

I'm in. I need to get new jeans as I exist on 2 pairs and one pair has a hole in the knee. I did see some higher-waisted slim jeans in New Look a few weeks ago so I'm going to investigate them.

TBH I do really well out of the sales these days, I've even dug out the odd gem in the TU sale rail (heart print blouse, v. Prada / Yves Saint Laurent).

MiaCulper Sun 03-Feb-13 11:05:09

Today I am wearing:

H&M dark blue skinnies
Primark long-sleeved, scoop neck t-shirt (navy)
Zara dark brown long cardi
Primark navy and brown big scarf
DottyP's brown ankle boots

Feel a bit too matchy-matchy, so may change later. Just realised that my underwear cost more than the rest of my outfit. shock

Spookey80 Sun 03-Feb-13 11:07:22

Ooo kissy, I saw a girl wearing a pair of skinnies like you ave described yesterday, I'm gonna have a look on website now, sound yum.

KatoPotato Sun 03-Feb-13 11:07:38

Oh hurrah! Delighted to find this thread! I've just created a blog for my high street hauls! Will post link as soon as I've written my first post!

Love preemers, tesco, new look, h&m and anything more high end if its heavily reduced!

Pleased to meet you all!

wasabipeanut Sun 03-Feb-13 11:20:48

I got a lovely Levi check shirt in TK Maxx last week to wart with skinnies and either Uggs ( I love them and don't care of people don't rate them ) or ballet flats in Spring. It's sort of a soft lilac and lovely material. Am also eyeing up an owl print dress in taupe & black.

TK Maxx on a Monday morning after dropping DD at preschool has produced a few gems. New stock goes in on a Monday and it hasn't had time to be ransacked!

I don't know if they still have them but I got quite a decent pair of black skinny jeans in Matalan some time ago.

I got them as cheap site trousers as they fitted tucked into my chunky site boots well but they've become a favourite part of my normal wardrobe now.

WhatDoesTheDogSay Sun 03-Feb-13 12:59:18

Hello, fab thread! Another H&M fan here, haven't tried the skinnies - how long are they? I'm 5' 7" with long legs so usually struggle to find suitably long bargain trews.

MechanicalTheatre Sun 03-Feb-13 13:20:09

Great idea for a thread. I am currently wearing green H&M joggers and an Asda sweater.

cocolepew Sun 03-Feb-13 13:36:10

I'm currently wearing next jogging bottoms and a NYC hoodie grin.

I don't jog but the hoodie is actually from New York.

whatyoulookinat Sun 03-Feb-13 13:44:25

Not really a fan of budget clothes/ cosmetics but I did buy a MAU lipstick & cream blusher after reading about it on another thread. The blusher is great, lipstick useable but not brilliant, doesn't really give a smooth or even coverage.
Sorry that's my only contribution as I really can't get excited about supermarket clothes.

sparklingportrait Sun 03-Feb-13 13:45:52

Fantastic idea and good on you for starting this thread! I thought it was just me that was outta sync with everyone else! I buy wherever I see something I like within a budget(at times).... and am dressed for work well every day with stuff from Primark, TKMaxx (cardigans) and mostly leather boots/wedges that are five years old but good quality back before the recession! I have just discovered VILA clothing and I could buy most stuff on their website. I have aconcession type store in my town with Vila and Vero Moda, their stuff is as cheap as Primark but nicer...I bought two fine knit tunic style jumpers in dark khaki and navy yesterday for 45 euro(ire) and I love them....Really nice with leggings or jeggings with a big scarf I think. I also love the scarves in Primark but I buy two and sew them together.....then you gotta big Jennifer Aniston scarf look!! Keep this thread going it! Must learn to do links for Vila and Vero Moda......

MechanicalTheatre Sun 03-Feb-13 13:47:02

whatyoulookinat hmm

It's not that I'm a FAN of supermarket clothes, just that sadly I don't really have much of an option at the moment.

mrspolkadotty Sun 03-Feb-13 14:07:02

Great thread! Just what i've been waiting for smile

Today's clobber:

Black l/s top - Miss Selfridge
Black floral dress tea dress - Yumi via Next
Mustard fitted cardi - H&M
Black cable knit tights - Tesco
Chestnut Uggs & thick beige socks (i have the coldest feet in the world!)
Dark beige chunky snood - Handmade

I need some new skinnies, off to investigate!

TheEarlyBird Sun 03-Feb-13 14:13:12

Another lurker here - champagne taste and lemonade budget smile

freddiefrog Sun 03-Feb-13 14:22:53

Yep, me too!

I actually quite like ferreting about for bargains.

I've got one or two more high end bits that I've bought when they've been signicantly reduced, but the bulk of my wardrobe comes from H&M, New Look, Matalan, TK Max, Top Shop and eBay

Today I'm wearing

H&M skinnies
white vest top from Matalan
Pink fine knitted jumper from TK Max
Brown Caterpillar Mardy boots (bargain from Amazon)

Corygal Sun 03-Feb-13 14:26:54

Yes please! May I sing the praises of TK Maxx as well? Am in Martin Margiela belt, 4 quid from TK, and HM massive cashmere jersey dress (their Margiela range, gor I feel smart, 35 in sale).

I generally won't pay more than a tenner for high street label or 30 for designer - my style is mean chic.

libertychick Sun 03-Feb-13 14:27:48

I am on THAT other thread! But ducking into say this skirt is one of my best recent buys and these shirts are excellent work basics.

I have bought a lot recently due to winning £150 gift card on the Warburtons breakfast thread so I will link to some of my purchases-

New Look- these jeans are extremely well fitting for an hourglass like me, they feel soft and comfy and look fab; this dress is very pretty, silky and versatile; the jacket I bought was similar to this but mushroom coloured and with jersey rather than suedette but they don't have it online, it is beautiful; this dress is also pretty and floaty; also bought a few plain colour vest tops and some gladiators for my hols in april.

TK Maxx- this dress is gorgeous on; this dress also looks great on; this looks good with skinnies and a vest or a pencil; wearing this right now with sheer black footless tights and red hush puppy ballet flats; [[,4,shop,1,0385 this shrug looks lovely with the bird print dress from new look.

Have bought off ebay and a couple other places too, but I don't have time to link them all grin

PerAspera Sun 03-Feb-13 14:49:28

Late to the party but can I join?

I'm getting sick of my jeans 'n' slightly fitted t-shirt look, but have no clue where to start looking at fashion stuff.

I'd like to look smart, and would like to be able to get stuff that I can dress up with smart trousers & accessories, or dress down with jeans.

Someone point me at a good blog/website please?

Ugh fail! wearing this
this is shrug

CointreauVersial Sun 03-Feb-13 15:30:37

Excellent thread! I do love all the clothes-chat, but am definitely a high street girl.

Wearing today:

Black skinnies from New Look
Longline grey and black striped top from Dotty Ps, via charity shop
Mohair-mix jade green jumper from La Redoute (possibly older than most of my children)
Pink slippersox

Woild love to chat now, but the DDs are baking, so I need to gently supervise.....

I'm enjoying this thread but am not buying clothes at the moment, I am doing MyFitnessPal and am determined not to buy anything new till I have dropped a dress size. I will bookmark some of the ideas for when the shopping re-commences, I want to lose 3 stone and hoping to go down two sizes so I will definitely need to economise, especially with the first dress size down.

Am currently dressed in M&S skinny jean jeggings, a white long sleeved T from Dotty P's and a very old but reliable Fat Face dress.

cocolepew Sun 03-Feb-13 17:09:23

Loving the New Look dresses you've been linking to. Theres are tweed biker jacket ( its nice, honest ) on Tesco's website I like the look of.

I'm now sitting wrapped in a faux fur throw- we've run out of oil again hmm

ALittleLemonTwist Sun 03-Feb-13 17:21:55

Great thread! I used to shop in the more high end of the high street...reiss, and banana republic being particular favourites. Then redundancies and kids happened and now more likely to be dressed head to toe in supermarket clothing! Don't actually mind as have picked up some great pieces grin. Have even got some lovely tops in that rarest of fabrics...100% cotton!

I got a lovely marl grey sweatshirt with sequin front from tesco before Christmas which have worn to death and garnered lots if compliments! Have just bought some lovely suede greige flat boots, bit slouchy and cowboy-esq, also from tesco.

I also find that obviously although quality of more budget brands can be inferior, they hold up pretty well if you look after them as you would more expensive clothes...I tend to do most of my washing on 30 degrees.

For jeans, I live in gap legging jeans which are fab (only tend to buy when on offer) and I absolutely love my pale grey ones.

ALittleLemonTwist Sun 03-Feb-13 17:24:02

Oh and my favourite recent buy is a tan leather cross body saddle bag, bit like the zatchel ones. I never normally have success in charity shops but dead chuffed with this!

Umlauf Sun 03-Feb-13 17:47:29

Hi! Marking my place really, this thread is right up my high street. Although as I live overseas its all online shopping from the Uk and a lot of zara (I live in Spain!) I also find eBay a godsend for designers stuff, I just bought some MiH jeans for £21 on there and. Hobbs silk shirt for £5!

Also, I'm pregnant so I can't go crazy buying stuff anyway as I may never fit into it all, but have just got some bravissimo nightwear (also on eBay) for a fraction of the price.

MimikosPanda Sun 03-Feb-13 18:10:19

Well, the gods conspired against me today and I didn't manage to get to a H&M or a Next today, in fact the closest I got to retail therapy was the service station on the motorway where I may have scoffed a Galaxy Ripple

I'm really thrilled that so many have posted on the thread, I'm really looking forward to getting lots of ideas and tip, especially about different shops to try. It seems less of a risk to try a new brand if you have had a recommendation from someone.

LemonTwist Like you, I used to have more disposable income for my clothes, pre-children and income changes, I got used to more expensive brands. I was still buying highstreet but higher end high street. I'd be over the moon if I saw a leather satchel in a charity shop! I keep checking our locals ones out but have found very few finds, I do much better on ebay.
My best ebay find has been a Steve Madden handbag for £3.50 which I love, but I use it everyday and it's starting to look tired so I'll need to look around again soon. I need it to be quite big to carry all the DC things and I hate cheap bags because they go so tatty so quickly, so hoping to get a good ebay find again.

Roopoo Sun 03-Feb-13 18:19:53

Love this thread!
I mainly shop at New Look and Sainsburies. Also have a Next Clearance nearby that had lots of bargains.

I am saving up for Dr Martens ....

Doshusallie Sun 03-Feb-13 18:20:21

I really struggle with h&m work shirts, I have to go 2 sizes up so they don,t gape at the norks.

I have bought this, and this recently.

I also bought a lovely black and cream lace effect dress for work and matching ballet flats from sainsburys last week. And a blue top with pink and white birds on it, also sainsbos.

Doshusallie Sun 03-Feb-13 18:21:57

Today I am wearing next boot cut blue jeans, long sleeved white t-shirt from primary, long sleeved navy and white striped sweater also primark, brown uggs, blue and white bird print scarf from primark.

TheEarlyBird Sun 03-Feb-13 18:30:57

Doshusallie - love that Next denim shirt but is it big enough across the chest? I suffer from the age old problem of needing two sizes bigger round the chest than anywhere else.

Doshusallie Sun 03-Feb-13 18:40:16

Yes. I bought the 12 and it's perfectly fine. Very versatile. I'm not quite wearing denim on denim - have worn it with blue jeans and a red cable knit batwing jumper from new look, and wore it with a black and white striped long vest top from sainsburys, black leggings and black furry boots.

TheEarlyBird Sun 03-Feb-13 18:43:34

Ooh - am very, very tempted. Will treat myself when I ave lost another 3kg smile

TheEarlyBird Sun 03-Feb-13 18:44:10

have not ave - I'm posh, I am!

MimikosPanda Sun 03-Feb-13 18:51:33

Doshusallie I think I've seen that lace effect dress in Sainsburys, it was really nice, they had it one the main display in womenswear. I don't every dress that smartly so I had no need for it but still I was tempted to try it on!

I like the denim shirt you linked to, I saw one in Sainsburys this week and liked it but because I am almost always in jeans I worry about doing 'double denim' and I just don't know if that is acceptable or not. My husband thinks double denim is a crime, so fear I would be sniggered at!

Just had a rummage through to see what I will wear tomorrow and decided that after getting compliments on today's outfit I am going to wear the same tomorrow, just with fresh tights and top.
Also, after wearing them all day I can confirm that the £1.60 Home Bargains opaque tights are fantastic so I'll try to pop in tomorrow to get more clear them out . They are a one size fits all and I'm a size 8-10 and 5ft4 and they are perfect, I think they'd fit up to a 12 really well but might be a bit tight on the waistband beyond a 12.

issimma Sun 03-Feb-13 18:58:13

I have that Next shirt, and it's fab. I'm wearing it with indigo jeggings, but will also wear with indigo flares. Double denim is good (although I don't do stonewash jeans grin).

I'm in desperate need of clothes, but on a strict budget, so look forward to reading this thread. I bought a new outfit for £21 in asda today. Cream and cornflower breton stripy top and grey cotton straight leg trousers with neon pink belt. Only problem is they're a bit spring like and I have no jumpers. Could wear the trousers over leggings until the sun comes out :D

Doshusallie Sun 03-Feb-13 19:28:18

Mimi the dress is really nice. It's got pleating/gathering over the chest which i like, and the belt is also nice. i got it in a 10, the 12 gaped at the back. I wore it to work with a tight black turtle neck underneath (h&m are fab for these by the way, I bought 6 there last time blush 2 black, 2 camel, 2 grey, I wear them under all my work dresses as I don,t do bare arms in the office) but would also wear it with a cream lace body I got in primark, and a black lace long sleeved top I've got, also next.

issimma Sun 03-Feb-13 19:33:30

bargain scoop neck jumper from next
anyone got a spare free delivery code?

MimikosPanda Sun 03-Feb-13 19:39:26

Looking for my Selma Blair jeans online, I've found these in Matalan . Not the right type obviously, and not my normal style but think with nude pumps and a plain top they'd look really good in the spring/summer. I think I'll try to call in at some point and see them.

The other thing to add to my wish list are cheap, ideally patent leather, navy ballet pumps. I had some last year from Matalan and I loved them, navy seemed very hard to find.
I've wrecked them on holiday and know I'll want more for the summer so I'm starting to keep my eye out now. I usually only spend £5-£10 on ballet pumps so looking for cheap ones. The £7 nude ones in Asda at the moment are excellent by the way.

jen127 Sun 03-Feb-13 19:41:57
I bought this the other day from tesco and it looks much better in the flesh.
I am wearing it with skinny jeans

MimikosPanda Sun 03-Feb-13 19:42:05

Look here Issima, 'tis bad news though, they are saying that they don't really do the free P&P codes anymore sad

spottymoo Sun 03-Feb-13 19:43:13

Marking my place smile
I love models own nail varnish I've tried loads expensive and non and I always go back to this smile

Has anyone tried the asda bum&tum jeans at all?

I tend to shop at matalan/asda/primark/new look

Asda had some nice ballet pumps in which I want to stock up on a few pairs for spring.

My next purchase needs to be a pair of black skinny jeans but I've got my leg in plaster for another 4 weeks so its just leggings at the mo as that's all thy fits over my cast

belleat40 Sun 03-Feb-13 19:49:10

Just bought this today, fits beautifully and looks great and only £15 in the store.

AlwaysReadyForABlether Sun 03-Feb-13 19:49:13

I bought a couple of pairs of patent ballet pumps from Asda last year and they were great. I had them in nude, bright pink and gold - think they were less than £10. I see they've got them in again but not sure what colours.

AlwaysReadyForABlether Sun 03-Feb-13 19:50:36

jen127 I love that Tesco jacket. How does the sizing come up?

issimma Sun 03-Feb-13 19:51:07

thanks mimikos - resent paying p&p when I only got the shirt a few days ago. Own stoopid fault for not seeing the jumper then too!

ProlificWillyBreeder Sun 03-Feb-13 19:53:54

I've had real trouble with Primark super soft's after 2 washes they have faded really badly- black.
They grow and sag when you wear them and I even tumble dried them in an attempt to keep them from sagging but within half hour they look terrible.
I'm off to Sainsburys! I wonder if they will do a 25% off promotion soon?
Interesting to know about their bras.

H&M, another convert, I don't buy much from there but what I do buy lasts.

Can't you get the Next jumper delivered free to store? I do that all the time as I am too tight to pay delivery

MimikosPanda Sun 03-Feb-13 19:57:49

I do that too Jemima, I don't have a Next account so I go instore, order and pay for what I want and then go back to collect it later for free.

MiaCulper Sun 03-Feb-13 20:06:09

I love that Next sweater. Good find, issimma.

I was in there on Friday and couldn't see past the racks and racks of drab workwear.

issimma Sun 03-Feb-13 20:13:27

Not got a store here sad. Still less than £20, I guess. Will get it if my ebay stuff sells. Suspense is killing y'all, I bet.

GingerLemonTea Sun 03-Feb-13 22:17:58

Mimikos, primark have navy pumps with a bow at front.

MimikosPanda Sun 03-Feb-13 22:25:46

Really Ginger? Excellent, I'll make a bee line for it in the next few days, I've had some really good pumps from there. My best are a pair of gold (muted gold, not brassy gold) ones that were £2 and are so comfy they are like wearing slippers. Thanks so much for the tip, it was so hard finding some last year because all the ones I found were either pricey or had some sort of nautical gold thing glued on the front which I didn't want.

GingerLemonTea Sun 03-Feb-13 23:19:21

Yes they had lots of them in my local store on Wed. Pretty sure they were patent effect.

MimikosPanda Mon 04-Feb-13 08:52:13

My planned clothes for today have changed, the look I'll be going for today will be.... pyjamas and a runny nose. I think I need to declare the house in quarantine. Gah.

I'm in on this thread my dear nan always tells me I have champagne taste and lemonade money grin but I love reading all the high end shops threads and have a rummage through high street and charity shops for similar items. H&M has a Hermes style scarf at the moment which is lovely and nicer than the original

My only bug bear with the highstreet is the lack of trousers for the long legged!

Today's outfit is black New look trousers, a nude NL cami, an orange faux wrap H&M top and knee high next boots. smile

kissyfur Mon 04-Feb-13 10:42:32

mrspolkadotty Mon 04-Feb-13 11:15:29

Leopard print heels - £4.50 sale bargain from Sainsbury's

CointreauVersial Mon 04-Feb-13 13:21:36

You lot are a bad influence - I just ordered that denim shirt from Next. I also stuck a "wild card" onto the order: these harem trousers.

They are not remotely nappy-like, are mega-cheap and look sooo cute on the model. Well, we shall see.....

At work today, so wearing:

Blue bootcut trousers (H&M)
White cotton voile square-neck top (White Stuff via eBay)
Teal chiffon-edge lambswool cardi (Boden sale)
Long silver necklace with little silver and abalone discs (charity shop)
Black heeled brogues (Clarks)

doublechocchip Mon 04-Feb-13 13:37:45

Thick grey wool tights -H&M
A green tube skirt- H&M
White loose hankerchief hem T-shirt- M&S (in sale)
Long Black Cardi- Primark

Blue boyfriend cut jeans - New Look
White longsleeved tshirt - Primark
Grey cable effect "woollen" tank top - Primark
Dark grey cable knit bat wing chunky cardi - Asda
pink netted cotton scarf - Primark

Working at home today. grin

Doshusallie Mon 04-Feb-13 13:42:29

I like those Harems Cointreau - not something I would ever have thought of but you could wear them with layered t-shirts and ballet flats or sandals.

CareerGirl01 Mon 04-Feb-13 13:44:19

Great - like!!
For the record I'm 26 weeks pregnant and work from home (7am-3pm so I can do the school run1)

Reiss A Line 'leather' skirt (cost £35 in last summer's sale)
Next white maternity long sleeve t-shirt
Mama spanx in black
Top Shop shiny leather look maternity leggings
Ugg grey cardie boots - bought from local Facebook selling page £45
Taking my £20 black Hunter wellies (bought also from Facebook selling page) with me on school run just in case.
Have even managed to use some Klorane dry shampoo on hair and Garnier BB cream (ran out today - may try the L'Oreal Revitalift on offer in Boots - keep using the tester when I go in there).

cocolepew Mon 04-Feb-13 15:54:19

I like those harem trousers, I has simikar from Sainsburys a few years ago.
I usually dress down and work in a special school so need to dress appropriately.

Boyfriend jeans from Asda, they had a hole in the crotch, I only discovered it because it was draughty!
Black, long vest from Primark.
Black Rolling Stones t shirt from Primark.
Stripey scarf with roses on it, Primark.
Navy, suede Converse.
Grey cardi from Asda, with a funny hem grin
Bra and knickers from Sainsburys..

MimikosPanda Mon 04-Feb-13 17:49:01

In a haze of cold and flu tablets and calpol I decided we needed to get out to get some fresh air. I took the buggy (and the DC) for a walk into town, I tried on the tapered trousers that Cocolepew told me about. They are lovely but they are too low rise for me so the search continues. Next on my route was Primark. I was meant to be looking for the navy patent pumps, but I got way laid in the underwear department. All my bras simultaneously fell apart over Christmas so I've been looking for a new stash, I found some lovely matching sets in Primark and when I tried them on they fit perfectly. I got 4 bras and 6 knickers for £23 which I think is pretty good and I'm more impressed with the quality than I thought I'd be. The cheapest t-shirt bras were cheap feeling and were a funny shape on me, but the slightly more expensive ones were great.

But, like a total idiot I forgot to look for the navy pumps <<idiot>>

katykoo Mon 04-Feb-13 20:57:00

I have the Next harems as well Cointreau, haven't worn them yet but plan on wearing them Friday night with some high pointed black courts ( H & M ) and black silk t-shirt ( New Look).

Black leggings ( Warehouse)
Denim Shirt ( H & M)
Blue leopard print scarf ( New Look)
Black leather biker jacket ( Lipsy)
Black wedge ankle boots ( H & M )

AlwaysReadyForABlether Mon 04-Feb-13 21:32:32

I have been very boring today as in the office
Black & cream 3/4 sleeve round neck jumper. Next
Black wide leg trousers. M&S
Black patent dolly shoes. Next

Pretty much my uniform for work (but with different tops)

GingerLemonTea Mon 04-Feb-13 22:28:10

Cointreau, I have tried the hareem trousers in & they are lovely! The material is so soft, they are very comfy.
I didn't buy them as I'm not sure how to style them. I could wear them lounging about the house, going to gym, but that's a waste.
What will you wear with them?

CointreauVersial Mon 04-Feb-13 23:10:12

Good question, Ginger.

I imagine I will have to avoid anything too baggy or long on top. I'm not even sure if they will be smart or casual, but I certainly like the look modelled online. I'm hoping they will be a refreshing change from the perpetual skinny jeans anyway.

GingerLemonTea Mon 04-Feb-13 23:17:50

I have posted separately as I want to buy them & probably will anyway as they will get me out of my leggings that I have been wearing forever, had a baby last year.
They are lovely! I want to wear them out, but am not sure what to wear. I tried heels but it didn't look right, maybe gladiator sandals when it heats up a bit, not sure. Looking for inspiration!

MimikosPanda Tue 05-Feb-13 08:15:38

Snow! Its impossible to look good in the snow. I get so cold I always look like the michelin man with all my clothes on at the same time! I think I can add to my wishlist one of those duvet coats, I think they are called quilted down coats? Bet they are £££ though.

Roopoo Tue 05-Feb-13 08:50:06

Harem pants are lovely. Im ordering them. Seem to have lived in nothing but leggings since having DS.

Would you think ballet pumps would go with them?grin

HarrogateMum Tue 05-Feb-13 10:25:39

ah I love cheap shops! Today I am in plum coloured DP jeggings (tall range, very few places have them long enough) and a black Primark sweater and multicoloured Primark scarf. Not very exciting but brrrr it's freezing!

freddiefrog Tue 05-Feb-13 10:53:54

I like those hareems! I've got a biscuity coloured pair, but I usually only wear them in the summer with flipflops/sandals or if I'm going out-out with heels. I'm not quite sure what footwear to wear with them in the winter.

Today's outfit it

Blue H&M skinnies
Blue and white striped dress - Crew
Really dark grey boots - Amazon bargain
Blue with white dots scarf from Crew

Mimikos down jackets are AMAZING! But not always waterproof, so I always end up with another jacket over the top, also ending up looking like the Michelin Man.

DH got me my down jacket at Decathalon last Christmas as I always get cold camping, and it'd been the envy of everyone at the school gate on cold clear mornings. I'm sure they have a spring sale so might have some going cheaply if you can wait.

And I'm happy this morning as I've just got a lovely blue top off ebay and have a couple of other bids in on things I might well see if I can source in the shops if I don't get them - including a New Look tea dress I reckon would suit me.

Doshusallie Tue 05-Feb-13 11:16:59

plum patent mary jane court shoes - Barratts
brown/black/plum plaid/check wide leg trousers - Next
plum chiffon shirt with lace panels - New Look
Brown smart button cardi - Primark

(in office)

peachypips Tue 05-Feb-13 11:33:01

I love cheap shops too! Great idea for a thread OP. I absolutely love H and M- I have a few lovely short jumpers in metallic colours I got in the sale for £5 each!
I normally wear skinnies, a longer vest top and a short bright ish jumper with some kind of boots.
Today I am being daring and am wearing:
A very short very flared sticky-outy skirt from Primark that my sis gave me
Red opaque tights from tesco
A black tight round neck jumper- Primark
Biker boots- red or dead but in sale for £30
A scarf
I always wear light clothes on Tues as I go to WW!!!

Today I am wearing:

Dark blue boot leg Sainsburys jeans (they're better for keeping the snow out of my walking boots)
DH's blue ancient wooly Fat Face jumper
A blue jersey cotton tee-shirt (prob also Sainsburys)
Lovely warm walking socks.

CointreauVersial Tue 05-Feb-13 12:50:37

At work again today, wearing:

The famous M&S Owl Dress
Grey merino long cardigan (Gap sale)
Black opaques
Heeled brogues (Clarks)

cocolepew Tue 05-Feb-13 12:51:32

I had a poke through my wardrobe and found dome jeans like Selma was wearing! They are skinnies from Evans, a size 14 but are generous. I stopped wearing them because there is no stretch in them, but have lost a few pounds so they fit better. They are definitely more tapered than skinny.
Wearing with oversized Primark stripey scarf and a long sleeved blue and white striped top from Sainsburys and brown leather Converse.

CointreauVersial Tue 05-Feb-13 13:06:38

I am also planning to dig out some of my old jeans and see if they can be given the "boyfriend" treatment. I am a good stone lighter than I was three years ago, so I'm bound to have something suitable in the loft (and I am handy with a sewing machine!)

I love the owl dress!

Doshusallie Tue 05-Feb-13 14:47:48

I do too, out of stock though sad

MimikosPanda Tue 05-Feb-13 14:55:41

Coco It sounds like you are definitely channelling Selma today! I'm going to have a root through my straight leg jeans later to see if any of them will do, I don't think so but maybe I've got some old ones I've forgotten about.

My evening is free for rooting out jeans now because I've decided that I'm not going out to the gym through the snow. We've just got back in and the DC and I are wet and cold, we got completely covered, so thats it for today, I'm not going out again.

Today I ended up wearing:

Navy wellies - Town & Country
Fleece lines tights - Primark
Dark wash skinnies - DP
Vests - H&M, Primark
Long Sleeve jersey top - Topshop years ago
Boxy breton style jumper - H&M
Scarf - Primark
Navy Coat, hat, gloves

Trills Tue 05-Feb-13 14:56:55

Today I am wearing
Uniqlo cords (about 30 when I bought them)
A cardigan that I got from ebay (35)
Oasis vest top with 3 little buttons (found in a shared house about 6 years ago, the other two girls said it was not theirs so it became mine)

I bought this gypsy top from ebay too and it's very nice. Thin material and probably very cheaply constructed but I like it - probably New Look quality.

fridgepants Tue 05-Feb-13 16:33:21

For nail varnish, I can't recommend Barry M enough for budget, and Superdrug often have a 3 for 2. I also buy things like Essie and OPI on ASOS during the sales (they have a few on there now) as I'm not good enough at fingers to justify more than £8. Mavala in Boots are cheap as well (but small bottles). Boots 17 chips in minutes.

It#s spendy, but buy a bottle of Seche Vite top coat and your polishes should last longer and dry quicker. I've heard good things about Orly Bonder for chippy polishes but I can't be faffed to spend £8 on it.

MinesaBottle Tue 05-Feb-13 16:38:19

I am wearing a black shift dress I got in the sale at M&S couple of years ago. The sale price tag said £25 but when I went to pay for it, it came up as £5!!! Was so surprised I challenged it but the sales lady said nope, it's definitely a fivergrin One of my best bargains ever, am wearing it with tights, kimono jacket thing and black ballet pumps from Topshop and long sleeved black top which I think was from H&M.

Now I think of it I should have got 3 so I could save a couple for when this one wears out!

Doshusallie Tue 05-Feb-13 22:03:13

Grey primark pyjama set from primark, ribbed beige cardi from tescos, sainsburys black slippers. grin

MimikosPanda Tue 05-Feb-13 22:32:03

Primark do great pyjamas, don't they? I'm in mink fleecy Primark pyjamas, they were only £8 for the set and are so warm and toasty but DH thinks they are awful. But I can't waft around in flirty little nighties in February can I? grin

Roopoo Wed 06-Feb-13 08:57:17

Im wearing
Black Tights - Home Bargains
Dress - new look in sale for a £5
Black ribbed cardi - primark

I have ordered to hareem pants from Next! Ordered a 16 as hoping WW will have me at a 16 shortly.........

MimikosPanda Wed 06-Feb-13 09:03:29

I'm in

Heavywheezing Wed 06-Feb-13 09:25:16

Sorry, a bit late to the party here.
I usually by high street, and that's often sales only and I 'm afraid boden.

I have on primark mum boots,
Whistles skinnies , that were £25 in John Lewis sale
Owl jumper from m&s
Stripy top from gap, that I bought in gap outlet at Swindon.

Anyone do outlet shopping?

Mockingcurl Wed 06-Feb-13 09:26:26

Mimikos, Sainsburys bras are fantastic aren't they. They fit like a dream, wash well and are only £6. Out if guilt, I have bought more expensive bras, but I always go back to Sainsburys.
Great thread idea btw.

CointreauVersial Wed 06-Feb-13 13:12:05

Another day at work today, rocking head-to-toe charity shop chic:

Black and white striped V-necked knit - Kaliko (via Cancer Research)
Grey bootcut trousers - New Look (via BHF)

I have had the trousers for about five years and probably wear them once a week.....not bad for £3.50. I love them so much I sewed darts into the waistband when I lost weight.

My Next order arrived - see Ginger's harem trouser thread for my verdict!

nipersvest Wed 06-Feb-13 13:21:55

great thread! i feel a bit lost in the s&b section sometimes with the 'i've got £500 to spend on a bag, what should i buy' type threads.

freddiefrog Wed 06-Feb-13 14:16:08

Today is

Cream skinnies - H&M
Black vest top - Matalan
Oversized slouchy rusty/reddish jumper Peacocks
Ash Thelma wedges
Cream scarf as I'm bloody freezing - no idea where from, it's older than my kids

I think I might have to invest in the black Next harems, what to wear on feet though?

Roopoo Wed 06-Feb-13 15:24:24

Where is best place for cheap (and I mean proper cheap as i'm on mat leave) ribbed cardi'ssmile

landofsoapandglory Wed 06-Feb-13 15:59:09

Can I join please? I always feel so out of place on the other threads!

Can I sing the praises of Primark's tights, especially the fleece lined ones, they are brilliant. I am going back next week to buy loads in case they stop doing them, M&S sell them for £10 a pair, Primark sell them for £3.50! You can't go wrong.

Doshusallie Wed 06-Feb-13 16:07:46

At work so:

grey suit trousers, with matching grey fitted waistcoat - Primark. They do great suits, I have bought this one, the grey matching dress, the black one also. The dresses rock, get loads of comments when I wear them.

Purple, pink and grey striped ruffle front low cut work shirt - Next

Chunky celtic style silver necklace

Grey Mary Jane seude/patent heels, Monsoon.

Get loads of compliments when i wear this outfit. grin

cocolepew Wed 06-Feb-13 17:19:21

Asda do a lot of cardis as does Matalan.

I'm wearing exactly the same as yesterday except my top is red and navy striped today smile.

MimikosPanda Wed 06-Feb-13 17:57:25

Landofsoap If you are small then you can buy the girls age 11-13 fleece lined Primark tights and they are only £2.50. I'm an 8 and 5ft 4 and the girls ones fit me better than they adult size S/M and save me £1.

I walked past Primark again today so I popped in to see the pumps I forgot to look at the other day. They were £5, navy blue and fit well but the bow on the front was bigger than I liked so sadly the hunt continues. Thanks so much for the tip off though. I'm hoping Matalan will bring out the identical pair again this year, I'll just keep looking.
But whilst I was in there I looked at the coats because I am fed up of being cold all the time and I came away with a purple/aubergine down coat for £16. Its waist length and much more flattering on than I thought it would be though as usual in Primark I had to go up to a size 10. I wore it this afternoon and I was so warm it was fantastic.

After my bras the other day though I am nearly through the little bit of money I had set aside for spending after Christmas so I will have to go back to just window shopping now I think. Though I still need some Selma jeans of course

landofsoapandglory Wed 06-Feb-13 18:52:35

Thanks Mimikos, I'm an 8-10 and 5ft4 so I'll give the children's ones a try.

Roopoo Wed 06-Feb-13 19:40:54

Never thought of Asda will have a look for cardi's there.

freddiefrog Wed 06-Feb-13 19:57:06

I saw some in Peacocks the other day in their sale, about a fiver I think

Ooh love this !! Wheezing I do outlet shopping and GAP has brilliant bargains kicking myself for not getting a nice denim jacket last year for £18 also have a Next outlet, Fatface, White Stuff and FCUK love looking for a bargain.

My latest bargainous purchase Tan slouch ankle boots 20quid they are very comfy the heel is a bit rubbery - I can run in them!!

I am also wearing today a Tunic style top from M and Co which looks like it could be fat face or white stuff (Burgundy white tiny stars) £7 in sale) Next high waist straight leg jeans (£10 sale) a Chunky Cream Cardi (New look £8 sale) and scarf to tie it all in .

Just looking at the Hareerm pants online !

kissyfur Wed 06-Feb-13 21:32:19

Today's outfit was black skinny jeggings from oasis and a leopard print tunic style jumper from warehouse which I discovered today has a hole in the front! sad sad cos it's one of my faves!
Wore that with knee high flat leather boots (eBay) black leather Guess jeans bomber jacket (birthday present from my dad) and a big zebra print scarf from Primarni

Speaking of which I got a camouflage jacket from there today, only 18 pounds, just got to work out how to style it now smile

CointreauVersial Wed 06-Feb-13 22:01:54

I forgot to say, thanks Doshusallie and Issimma for recommending the Next denim shirt - it's perfect! Decent weight fabric, just tight enough over the chest, the right length. Well chuffed.

MimikosPanda Thu 07-Feb-13 09:54:14

Love those links Nipers and Mia, they are shops I would never normally think to look at.

Today is a bit boring because DC and DH are ill so just mooching at home:

Vests - Primark
Cream slub jumper - H&M

Very boring here today as well. Mucking out kids' bedrooms and painting scenery at school later

Plaid shirt in dusky pink/mushroomy colours - Peacocks
Levi's - via TK Maxx

Have just ordered this after much procrastination, not usually a fan of studs, but really like this$ja=tsid:45090%7Ckw:Skimbit%7Ccgn:78888&cm_mmc=AWIN-_-Deeplink-_-NULL-_-NULL&istCompanyId=17910aed-1bae-4362-9580-b523eb87a91e&istItemId=imrqpqmx&istBid=t

nipersvest Thu 07-Feb-13 11:01:29

i'm in scruffs today as working from home, need to be warm rather than stylish!

navy joggers - landsend (i live right by a lands end outlet store and it's fab, so cheap, plus they have regular friends & family days, coats are all £5, pj's are £1!)

navy t-shirts, 2 layered - h&m

emu's - i wear them as slippers - tk maxx

big navy marl cardi - tk maxx

shops i like at the moment, h&m, tk maxx, i trawl ebay a lot, uniqlo, tesco are great for thicker tights.

applecrumbleandcream Thu 07-Feb-13 11:03:50

Love the cowl neck and studs on that jumper Freddie, might be tempted myself.

Today I am stuck in the house so wearing comfy and warm 'scruffs'.

Black Next leggings
Black River Island vest
Cream and black fluffy DP Cardigan
DP cream scarf

Doshusallie Thu 07-Feb-13 11:11:44

I really like that dress nipers, but the code wouldn't work online and over the phone they wouldn't apply the discount to an item already on offer.

Today I am wearing:

Slim fit boot cut indigo jeans - New Look
Tan button up shirt - Primark
Slouchy burnished gold colour jumper with gold thread through it - New Look
Rust suede wedge heeled lace up ankle boots - New Look

almostanotherday Thu 07-Feb-13 11:14:57

Will read through this later as I'm wearing a mixture of Next and F&F (tesco) with a bit of sainsburys thrown in grin

nipersvest Thu 07-Feb-13 11:16:12

dosh, the code only worked on the shirt, only advantage was i got free delivery for the dress, so it did kind of save me the £3.99. i like the dress but am a bit worried it's going to be terribly short, will see when it arrives, it can always go back.

Trills Thu 07-Feb-13 11:18:52

The code doesn't work on anything that is already on sale, and possibly doesn't work on anything that is listed as "miniprice" either.

And you can probably only use it once.

Trills Thu 07-Feb-13 11:19:24

I had a couple of La Redoute dresses and I had to send them to the charity shop after a while because I realised that they were shorter than I thought they were.

DewDr0p Thu 07-Feb-13 12:32:33

Great thread. Loving wasting tons of time when meant to be working clicking through to all the ideas.

Today I am wearing:
orange ditsy print shirt - Gap
plain vest - New Look I think?
purple fine knit cardigan - John Smedley factory outlet (beautiful knitwear at bargainous prices, not rock bottom cheap but lasts and washes so well)
flared jeans - Urban Outfitters
brown wedge heeled boots - ancient purchase, FlyLondon, from Office I think.

landofsoapandglory Thu 07-Feb-13 12:57:25

I am wearing
Dark denim look leggings Next - about 3 years old but they don't fade or sag, the only problem is next don't sell them any more!sad

I live near to a LandsEnd outlet store too, Nipers. I got my down filled coat dirt cheap!

nipersvest Thu 07-Feb-13 13:01:22

I'd like to join too, if that's okay (I'm new here...have been dying for a place to discuss this stuff!). I tend to buy a lot second hand stuff, so it's all cheap regardless.

Yesterday I got a Uniqlo denim skirt from the Salvation Army, for £2.50. (I also found an LK Bennett dress which was too small for me, but I've put it on ebay. Thank you, Jesus!). Also got a little black pencil dress from fact my last two "new" purchases have been from there. Planning to wear the skirt with tights, boots and a slouchy jumper.

I also recently bought fake leather black shorts. They sound awful but they look awesome with tights. (Also...very warm in the cold!).

cocolepew Thu 07-Feb-13 16:59:10

I got navy linen trousers in Sainsbury's today, £16. They gave a small turn up and I'm not sure if they are tapered or not. I'm going out for tea with my friend so I'll try them on then. If they are ok I'll probably wear a warmish, long top from Next, navy and white stripes with a sequin heart on it.

Today I wore straight leg dark jeans from Asda
A pink and grey Sweatshirt with grey skulls on the bottom, Primark
Navy and white oversized skull scarf, Primark
Navy, suede One Star Converse

Also bought blingy owl earrings from Sainsburys.

Ilovemyteddy Fri 08-Feb-13 09:05:22

I've been lurking on this thread for a while and am loving the links! I've lost a lot of weight in the last year and have been replacing my clothes with charity shop bargains and 'cheaper' clothes whilst I get down to my target weight. I'm now 5lbs off target, and have been buying far too many clothes in the sales. But I still love a bargain and picked up a gorgeous long black coat with velvet collar and cuffs (Twiggy at M&S) in the local Cancer Research Shop for £12.95 yesterday ( RRP £125!)

As I am off work today (and not in 'uniform') I am wearing
Primark slouchy cream jumper
New Look leggings
George at Asda vest
F&F boy shorts
Rigby and Peller bra which cost three times the price of everything else that I am wearing but hoicks my norks up to where they are supposed to be grin

MERLYPUSS Fri 08-Feb-13 09:58:52

This sounds like me.
I am, lets say, over 40 but feel more like 30. I have 5yo twins.
My normal attire is leggins and a knitted dress with biker boots at the mo, Jeggins (i have a strange shape arse and can't find skinny jeans that are deep enough to hide my cat belly) with tops and long cardi layered and flowery DMs or wide jeans and some type of top. I have a parker for the school run as I am constantly cold hence the knitted dresses. My older sister says I dress like a lesbian as she never sees me in a skirt. I think she has a bloody cheek. I dont wear make up as have dreadful excema around my eyes causing my lashes to be very sparse.
Please tell me I am not going down the mutton route. People are always shocked in a good way when they know my true age.

Roopoo Fri 08-Feb-13 10:20:41

Shittttt I never realised Peacocks was back on line...... It shut down in our town and thought website had gone as well!!!
Told DH and he looked afraid.... Im away to browse (and buy) on Peacocks!!!

MimikosPanda Fri 08-Feb-13 11:18:53

Roopoo No, I didn't realise Peacocks was back online, I saw a link to something on there the other day and though I'd go and have a good look at what they have. I knew the shop was open again but haven't really had the chance to go in because it is a little out of my way. Think I'll have to make the effort now!

Merly Age is but a number....

Teddy Congrats on only having another 5lbs to go. Once I had finally lost all the baby weight that is when I started buying new clothes again. I'm still only buying relatively cheap clothes because when you need to buy a complete new wardrobe (from underwear right through to coats) it is too pricey to bulk buy the better brands. I wish my local charity shops were a bit better, I hardly ever find anything, where I was a student the charity shops were a goldmine, I really miss that.

MimikosPanda Fri 08-Feb-13 11:28:39

Forgot what I'm wearing:

Burgandy skinnies - New Look
Thermal vest - Primark
Navy/white striped vest top - H&M Logo
Navy button down, crew neck cardi - Matalan
Navy/burgandy/purple scarf - 30p in a secondhand sale
Sheepskin boots - Bearpaw @ TK Maxx (you see, I really do wear these too often!)

The Matalan cardi is like this one here but in navy (autumn sale), I sized down to make it a tighter fit. Its viscose and nylon though, so I don't like it as much as the 100% cotton ones I have from Primark, but the advantage is that it has a bit of stretch in it so its really comfy.

Doshusallie Fri 08-Feb-13 11:59:56

New look blue low rise skinnies
Long grey vest from Sainbso
Grey long sleeved t-shirt from Primark
grey sparkly top with a black skull on the front from Primark
brown short Uggs

applecrumbleandcream Fri 08-Feb-13 12:00:20

I need a bit of help.. I've got a couple of parties coming up soon and need a new dress. Would prefer something that I could also wear for work afterwards. I've seen quite a few in DP's who have some lovely dresses in at the moment all at really reasonable prices. Opinions welcome on any of these before I get out my debit card or has anybody tried any of these on in store and they've not been as nice in RL.

My 14 week old DD is better dressed than me..

I need help! And inspiration!

Thank you posters, got some good ideas off you all grin

realising I live in 2 pairs of jeans, 2 vests and 2 jumpers, not stylish at all

MimikosPanda Fri 08-Feb-13 12:19:55

I like the purple lace one best, I think it would be easy to glam up for also fine with work just with simple shoes. Love the pebble tea dress too, again because I think it would be versatile with accessories

Ilovemyteddy Fri 08-Feb-13 12:36:35

I like the two blue ones, but they are all lovely. Sorry I'm not much help grin

Ilovemyteddy Fri 08-Feb-13 12:40:30

Actually I have a question too. I'm going for a city break in a month's time and need some dressy evening trousers. I have loads of pretty tops and a lovely magenta Oasis jacket that was dirt cheap in a sale, but my two pairs of black trousers are now too big. Anyone seen anything around in a 12/14 that's not too expensive as I have spent a fortune on clothes recently. Not sure if I'm looking for straight legged or something more floaty or linen. It should be warm where we are going so they need to be cool fabric.

spottymoo Fri 08-Feb-13 13:08:51

I got some great black trousers from primark in the office type clothes section £5 I have the straight leg and some that are slightly flared both fit really well grin

Ilovemyteddy Fri 08-Feb-13 13:24:40

thanks Spottymoo. I'll have a look in Primark tomorrow.

poem - EBay

I WANT one!!!

CointreauVersial Fri 08-Feb-13 15:53:31

Not at work today (hoorah!), so I'm wearing:

White HeatTech top (Uniqlo)
Cream cable oversized jumper (Mango sale)
Furry gilet (Mango sale)
Skinny jeans (Zara sale)
Cream/blue/pink scarf (Primark)
Black Ugg-alikes (Clarks, so have a proper sole and won't collapse in the rain!)

Can I just say a big thank you to whoever recommended the H&M tube skirts? £3.99 and marvellous! I bought black and white stripy. I can see it working well with a jumper, tights and boots, but will also be perfect for summer with a loose teeshirt. Result.

Rosevase Fri 08-Feb-13 15:53:34

I have just joined Avenue 57 and I have high hopes it will get me out of my rut of school run clothing, same old things all the time, no real inspiration and yet a whole wardrobe of clothes!! I know that as I have just moved house and half my wardrobe is still on the bedroom floor... I have no big budget - and I simply don't get why I can happily spend hours on carefully choosing my children's outfits and am happy to spend money and effort of them, but I have been reluctant to do it on my self.

So my over one month late new year's resolution is to start trying to have fun with clothes again!

lurkingaround Fri 08-Feb-13 15:59:47

Ilove there was a thread here recently on H&M trousers, I only skimmed it but I think they might work for you, not skinny trousers, a bit floaty. Can't rem the title of the thread, gosh that's not a whole lot of help to you, but someone else might know.

Ilovemyteddy Fri 08-Feb-13 16:09:31

Thanks Lurking. We have an H&M not too far away so I'll try and get over there this weekend. I'll have a look on their website now.

uniqlo heattech dress in plum
tan thin extra long belt (those ones you wrap around a couple of times), ebay
tan cardi, think it's from fashion union

DillyTante Sat 09-Feb-13 11:24:56

I have a challenge for you, I'd like to embellish some basic t shirts, where can I get some reasonable but quite nice basic t shirts. I'm thinking less clingy and thin than primark.

DillyTante Sat 09-Feb-13 11:25:55

Oh btw I had a look and you can get 'soft kitty' t shirt transfers to make your own tshirt!

CointreauVersial Sat 09-Feb-13 13:17:25

Dilly, I needed a basic white tee recently for DD1's school play, and I ended up buying it in the local teeshirt print place (they also do our school uniform). They had every size and colour you could want, and perfectly happy to sell one to me unprinted. It's surprisingly tricky to find completely plain basics in the shops! But you could also try M&S.

Today's outfit:

White HeatTech top, Uniqlo
Beige chunky knit short sleeved tunic jumper, M&S
Black skinny jeggings, Uniqlo
Pink slippersox!

MimikosPanda Sat 09-Feb-13 18:20:38

Today I was in:

Indigo skinnies - DP
Vests - as usual
Burgandy & cream breton style jumper - River Island
Scarf - Matalan
Tan ankle boots - Tesco

I had to go shopping this afternoon for the DC, I didn't manage to shop for them without doing a little for me, even though I was meant to be window shopping only.

Anyway, I saw this from Matalan, think they do a khaki colour too. Its polyester and viscose which I'm not mad about but I really like the oil wash effect and it is very similar in style to the Zara linen tees that I have but that are more expensive so I got it and I'll put it away for now, its too cold for short sleeves.

There were a few things in Matalan that I like, they all had 'Papaya Weekend' labels in them so I was wondering if Matalan have launched a new range. I've had Papaya before but never seen Papaya Weekend.

Ginger I saw that cardi you linked whilst I was in there, its really nice but I'm 5ft4 and it was a bit too long on me, did me no favours, lovely though.

Mimikos I really like that t-shirt - might have to take a trip to Matalan to have a look. I also like the slouch cargo trousers they've shown with it but I'm not sure if I'm too old for them. I don't know why but I'm suddenly having a crisis about what is age appropriate for me (I'm 43).

Doshusallie Sat 09-Feb-13 19:24:40

I like This

Doshusallie Sat 09-Feb-13 19:26:03

Barratts online have a sandals sale on at the moment, some quite cute ones for £3-8, limited sizes left though.

Roopoo Sat 09-Feb-13 19:40:57

The hareem/harem pants looked obnoxious on me.. I looked like an oversized weeble.
Im a bit stuck now as had wanted to wear them next weekend to the day part of a hen do........

Im now thinking a dress over leggings.... I dont know... The dress I liked on la redoute is sold outsad

And ideas??
Im size 16/18 5ft 7 and im carrying baby blubber on my stomach....

freddiefrog Sat 09-Feb-13 19:44:03

I like the slouch cargo trousers too. May have to visit Matalan next week.

I spent today slobbing around at home so outfit isn't very exciting

Levi's from TK Maxx
Yellow zip up hoodie - Animal
Dark maroon t-shirt - Trespass
Fuggs - can't remember where from, ancient and minging but I've got cold feet

MimikosPanda Sat 09-Feb-13 19:48:23

Always I saw the trousers whilst I was in there, they looked good. If I had been on my own I would have tried them on but I had the DC with me so I would have been pushing my luck. Probably for the best or I might have bought them!

I was pretty impressed with the new ranges in Matalan, much better than what has been in over the last few months. I seem to go in cycles with Matalan, some seasons I find lots I like in there and other seasons there is just nothing for me. Anyway, these were the things I saw today and liked:

Zip Back Chiffon Blouse 18 Beautiful but massive, even size small was like a tent on me, also in navy here

Falmer Crochet Jumper 25 Lovely, but I thought too expensive for what it was, no under vest included either, but it was nice.

Foil Print Top 12 Thought this was great for the price, too jazzy for me for daytime and because I never go out I'd never wear it but it was lovely.

Tape Drop Back Jumper 18 Now this I had to drag myself away from, it is lovely and is seriously flattering on.

cocolepew Sat 09-Feb-13 19:50:29

I have trousers like the slouchy combats from Sainsburys a few years ago. They were so comfy I bought green, grey and black! I got them back out of the back of the wardrobe last week, they seem to have come back into fashion.

I like an elasticated waist grin

MimikosPanda Sat 09-Feb-13 19:51:29

Forgot one! Like this too Long Line Pocket Top 8

AlwaysReadyForABlether Sat 09-Feb-13 19:51:42

Mimikos can I come shopping with you? You find fab stuff! I really like the zip back blouse. I also quite like the drop back jumper - I'm just not sure if it would make my boobs look even more enormous! Definitely need to go for a look round Matalan next weekend.

cocolepew Sat 09-Feb-13 19:53:19

Roopoo, the oversized tshirt in the link would work with leggings, it would make a change from dresses.

AlwaysReadyForABlether Sat 09-Feb-13 19:53:29

I have been doing a bit of online browsing and really like this. It's also available in a stone colour.

Doshusallie Sat 09-Feb-13 19:57:26

I like that always

landofsoapandglory Sat 09-Feb-13 19:58:33

I've got linen slouchy trousers, like those combats. I bought mine in New Look last year and wore them on the plane when we went in holiday, they are so comfy.

cocolepew Sat 09-Feb-13 20:00:25

That's nice, RI have a lovely pink jumper in atm.

I was counting up and I have 11 striped tops shock and I nearly bought another one on Thursday blush.

cocolepew Sat 09-Feb-13 20:01:41

I live in slouchy linen in the better weather. The only thing I hate is I have to iron them .

MimikosPanda Sat 09-Feb-13 20:08:50

Always Glad you liked my links. I think Matalan have really upped their game, looking forward to a child free rummage in there sometime in the near future.

Coco I daren't count how many stripey tops I have, it is too many that is for sure. They are mostly navy stripes but some burgundy have crept in too, I also have too many spots, again mostly navy.

Once I find a style/colour that I feel comfortable with I really gravitate towards it, my wardrobe is all very same-y, just can't seem to help it. I've even had to ban black from my wardrobe because it got to a point where everything was black.

The thread is a week old now (well, in about and hour), my longest running MN thread ever, I'm really enjoying swapping ideas with you all, thanks, I was worried no one would even reply!

Roopoo Sat 09-Feb-13 20:54:30,brand

Liking this dress........

And this one,brand

cocolepew Sat 09-Feb-13 21:02:14

I love the spotted dress.
I was waiting for a hysterectomy last year and I got very swollen before hand, think heavily pregnant blush. I rediscovered the joy of leggings and had a couple of. dresses that fit went with them. I'd like some more to wear.
Sainsbury's had a nice denim shirt dress.

AlwaysReadyForABlether Sun 10-Feb-13 12:19:54

Can anyone point me in the direction of good jeggings/treggings/whatever they're called this week. I think I have seen Dorothy Perkins and M & S being recommended on here before but I'm not sure which ones.

Roopoo Sun 10-Feb-13 12:44:06

Looking for wooly leggings??? Any ideas or is it in my head??

applecrumbleandcream Sun 10-Feb-13 12:46:42

I love DP jeggings, never tried M&S so can't comment on those. I have the black coated ones and plain black ones. I don't recommend buying the River Island black jeggings. They were a complete waste of money at £35 and looked terrible after only a couple of washes.

VivaLeBeaver Sun 10-Feb-13 12:47:38

I got some black denim jeggings from m&s a few weeks ago. Think they were about £29, they have a zip and button on them but are very stretchy and comfy.

Doshusallie Sun 10-Feb-13 13:11:44

Just bought these

I have loads of black boots, but the only ones I have that are flat ate great big woolly ugg style ones. Got free delivery with FREEDEL code as purchase was over £30.

HotCrossBunsForAll Sun 10-Feb-13 13:22:44

I love this thread :D Only trouble is all the links are making me want to buy things!

I bought some jeans yesterday, online from New Look. I have 36" legs and getting decent skinny jeans is a nightmare - Dorothy Perkins and Topshop have both stopped the ones I usually buy, so am hoping these £22 things from NL turn out to be OK.

cocolepew Sun 10-Feb-13 15:07:00

Lovely boots.

George at Asda, has a half price sale on at the moment, some good bargains, especially in the childrens section

Trills Sun 10-Feb-13 15:14:53

I've just bought this stripey dress - I like it because it has a wider "stripe" at the waist.

cocolepew Sun 10-Feb-13 15:19:13

Oh its lovely Trills envy

Trills Sun 10-Feb-13 15:22:43

For a long time I thought Mango was about the same as Zara but it's actually quite cheap.

The model is 5'9 (I love that ASOS tells you this) so I hope it will be a little bit longer on me.

cocolepew Sun 10-Feb-13 15:35:30

I always thought it was more expensive too.

cocolepew Sun 10-Feb-13 15:40:03

I always though Wallis was expensive too, but there is a concession in a department store in my town and its seems to be on par with Next. There is a beautiful bird print top in mint green in it. (I haven't learnt how to do links from my phone blush)

landofsoapandglory Sun 10-Feb-13 15:46:28

I like that dress Trills, will you report about length, how thick it is etc when it arrives please?

Doshusallie Sun 10-Feb-13 15:53:51

Dammit that dress would go beautifully with the boots....

CointreauVersial Sun 10-Feb-13 17:01:49

Wearing today:

Black knitted twist-neck top - Coast, via charity shop
Black and cream stripy tube skirt - H&M (£3.99!!!!)
Brown woolly tights
Cream cable knit chunky cardi - M&S Indigo

Ruprekt Sun 10-Feb-13 17:16:16

marking my place

Doshusallie Sun 10-Feb-13 17:35:52

Today -

New look blue faded low slung skinnies
Black long sleeved t shirt from primark
Black jumper from new look with silver and bronze sparkle/jewelled detail about the neck
Big black wool trimmed snow boots
(When I went out) black and beige skull printed scarf primark
Navy duvet coat primark

Doshusallie Sun 10-Feb-13 17:36:28

If ANYONE belonged on this thread it is I.....I buy clothes so often they have to be from the aforementioned shops!!!!!

Trills Sun 10-Feb-13 17:38:32

Yes the dress and boots would go very well together.

VivaLeBeaver Sun 10-Feb-13 17:39:38

Right, can anyone recommend any dresses. I'm going out for dinner next weekend. It's a sort of works do, have no idea where were going but it tends to be a nice bistro/small independent restaurant type place.

So not über posh but not Nandos either.

I'm 36, size 16.

MimikosPanda Sun 10-Feb-13 19:33:25

I love that Mango dress, I've never found a knitted dress that flattered me though, they just seem to highlight my lumps and bumps. Is there a secret to getting a good knitted dress? I've tried on many but never found one that didn't make me look like a sack of potatoes.
I didn't know Mango was cheaper than Zara. Like Trills says, I thought it was roughly the same price bracket as Zara - how did I not know that?! I will have to go in there and have a snoop online.

What are the H&M tube skirts like? Are they a mini skirt? I could do with some more skirts, I only have one, but don't want to spend much cash in case I don't really wear them much.

Today I wore:

Indigo skinnies - DP
Vests - many as it was brass monkeys and snowy
Grey print linen top - H&M Here
Grey/blush pink/stone Scarf - Primark
Grey boots - Rieker Here from an independent local shop for a bargainous £25 last year.

VivaLeBeaver Sun 10-Feb-13 19:49:14

That h&m top is nice Mimiko, does it crumple badly being linen?

Doshusallie Sun 10-Feb-13 19:56:23

Viva - too shirt/too expensive?. I love it.

Doshusallie Sun 10-Feb-13 19:56:36

Short not shirt

DeathMetalMum Sun 10-Feb-13 20:09:21

I will be watching this thread and hopefully the ones to follow. I am 34 weeks pregnant so doubt I will be buying much until the summer at the earliest. Perfect thread for me though.

MimikosPanda Sun 10-Feb-13 20:11:57

Viva It creases much less than you'd think. Today I've taken it off and hung it up (already in my pjs grin ) and it looks fine so though I'd wear it again before I wash it. When I wore my linen t-shirts in the summer though, when it was humid and I was hot then they got quite creased. They do need a good hot iron after washing too.

I'm a bit useless with dresses, but I like these Matalan baroque, 18, and this from H&M, 29.99 would look fab with heels and a clutch bag.

Also, and I can't believe I forgot to mention it in my last post, I've found some Selma jeans! They are some I found at the back of the wardrobe so they were free grin.
I had a good rummage through and I found a pair of Gap straight leg jeans I bough from the outlet once upon a time, I put them away because they were a bit too big on me. I rolled up the bottoms, tried them on with a navy stripe top and my converse and bingo ... Selma!

MimikosPanda Sun 10-Feb-13 20:12:47

Ooo Viva, just saw this one too H&M 25

Queenofknickers Sun 10-Feb-13 20:17:34

Can I recommend M&S online outlet .... Good for work clothes but you have to pick carefully so as not to look like your mother

VivaLeBeaver Sun 10-Feb-13 20:18:38

I love the Monsoon dress but think it might be a bit short.

I really like the Matalan one and also the 2nd h&m one. I think the first h&m one would not be very flattering, probably fine if you're slim but not if you're tubby like me. grin

I'm planning on shopping on Friday so will checkout h&m and monsoon. To sure there's a Matalan nearby to where I'm going on Friday.

landofsoapandglory Sun 10-Feb-13 20:20:34

That baroque dress is nice, and the last H&M one.

Holly Willoughby wears some nice lace ones from Dorothy Perkins but I can't find them online.

VivaLeBeaver Sun 10-Feb-13 20:39:04

Right have ordered the following. This as a possibility for dinner,

And this as but not for dinner.

day dress

Decided against the earlier Matalan dress as it looked a bit of an odd length.

landofsoapandglory Sun 10-Feb-13 21:34:49

They're nice Viva. I like this one too.

I, also, wonder about these for themSummer, but am worried about the length because I have to wear flat shoes.

I have a couple of tea dresses from Matalan that are about 5 years old, they wash and wear so well.

CointreauVersial Sun 10-Feb-13 21:40:10

Like the stripy one, Viva, but not crazy about the other (but difficult to see what it would be like on).

Also love the Mango dress linked to earlier. I have a lovely knitted dress bought a couple of years ago from M&S Autograph, but I could find room in my wardrobe for another.

CointreauVersial Sun 10-Feb-13 21:43:48

Mimiko, the H&M tube skirts are mid-thigh, so not too short. But they are stretchy, so you could roll the waistband or wear lower on the hips to suit. Very comfy and casual, not smart enough for work, but pretty perfect for the price. There were loads of colours and stripy combos.

MimikosPanda Sun 10-Feb-13 22:00:10

My name is Mimiko and I'm addicted to window shopping. Tonight I've been looking at the Dedenhams sale, this is my wishlist:

Textured t-shirt, 7.65 if you look at the bottom there are other colours too

Runched sleeve t-shirt, 7.65 Again more colours available. These look like great basic t-shirts.

Warehouse Stud woven jumper, 25 also in pink

Buckle tan ankle boots, 20 Repeat 'I don't need new boots, I don't need new boots...."

Phase Eight gold knit jumper, 29 Still too pricey but beautiful

Oasis Raglan T-shirt 10

I keep finding more and more, so think I better stop now!

Land I followed both links but both went to the same tie-waist dress, I like it though.

landofsoapandglory Sun 10-Feb-13 22:04:57

It was meant to go to this (hope it works) Mimkos. I think it is something that could be an unflattering length, though.

MimikosPanda Sun 10-Feb-13 22:13:17

Those midi dresses are awful on me, I have wide muscular calves so they cut me off in just the wrong place IYSWIM, but I've seen some women looking fantastic in them. Can you go in and try it on?

milkybrew Sun 10-Feb-13 23:15:40

Love this thread, I've been following it from my sickbed for days! Thanks to you ladies I've just managed to buy myself shoes and a jumper, plus a scarf for my little sister's birthday, for £35 in the mango sale! I've never ordered from them before so hope everything will fit and look as good in RL as it did on website. Will make a change from all the H&M I usually wear. What's Mango sizing like? I ordered the jumper in medium, I'm 10-12, everything I buy in H&M is usually a small so I sized up, wondering if I should have got large though hmm

Doshusallie Mon 11-Feb-13 09:26:29

Land of, link didn't work for me either?

Mimi I love the phase eight gold jumper and have bookmarked it. I have a similar bat winged jumper in silver from monsoon and often think it would be nice to have it in gold too.

Doshusallie Mon 11-Feb-13 09:27:19

Am still ruminating about the striped mango dress, please feedback a review when it is delivered?

freddiefrog Mon 11-Feb-13 09:47:53

I'm umming and ahhing about that Mango dress too. I am obsessed with stripes and have a million and one striped articles of clothing already so I don't need it...but...but...but

You lot are such a bad influence, I've ordered the Matalan slouch cargo trousers upthread as well.

Today's outfit
Blue skinnies - H&M

Grey boot-cut trousers (New look, via charity shop)
Black heeled brogues (Clarks)
Silver Tiffany bracelet

We only have a couple of cms of snow, but that was enough to drive me to my cuddly jumper drawer this morning!

MimikosPanda Tue 12-Feb-13 08:14:50

Today I'm going to try out my boyfriend jeans, need to find my belt though because they are a bit big. Will come back later to report on if they looked half decent or not!

Roopoo Tue 12-Feb-13 09:06:15

Today am wearing
Black dress with flowers - yrs old Matalan
Black cardi
Hair in bun with fake flowers stuck in to jazz up boring outfit!

Im off to Primark on Thursday with no kids smile what should I be looking out for????

freddiefrog Tue 12-Feb-13 09:16:39

I'm planning a trip to our 'big town' and a visit to Primark the end of next week as well, anything exciting in there at the minute?

Dark blue skinnies - good old H&M
Long white vest top - Matalan
Fine knitted pink jumper with lace skull - TK Maxx
Ash Thelma
Dark brown coat - massive sale bargain from a Barbour factory outlet shop

Ashoething Tue 12-Feb-13 09:43:19

Tuesay-I am wearing-

Navy blue pearl lowe for peacocks tile print dress
navy blue crochet style tights-new look
tan calf boots-again!-new look
bird pendent necklace-primark
blue military style coat-new look

Hair is needing a good wash so will disguise this by doing victory rolls and may shove a flower or butterfly clip in it just to hide the grease!

Kyrptonite Tue 12-Feb-13 09:45:27

Finally! A fashion on a budget thread. Marking place to read later grin

Roopoo--I actually really rate the underwear at Primark. Their unpadded bras are brilliant and give you a great shape (although the sizing can be a bit funny. Definitely try on in-store first. The padded bras are a bit meh and quality is far lower).

Today, I'm wearing:

Slouchy blackcurrant & black stripe jumper from Next
Stonewashed denim miniskirt from Uniqlo
Black opaques and grey ankle boots

I also had a bit of luck in a charity shop earlier; picked up a lovely pair of tailored charcoal trousers and a tight-fit black sweater with sequinned stars, both from Next. I can't wait to try the sweater with leather shorts...

MimikosPanda Tue 12-Feb-13 12:31:18

Just popped on the link to Dorothy Perkins, I've had an email and they are doing a '100 dresses £20 and under' and there are some bargains on there. So if you are looking for a dress check out Dorothy Perkins

Will come back on later to read and catch up properly.

Doshusallie Tue 12-Feb-13 13:00:50

Today -

Indigo skinnies, Primark
Black and cream striped breton top, H&M
Black with sparkly thread bat wing jumper, Primark

Lonelynessie Tue 12-Feb-13 13:03:01

Yay, I can finally join in a fashion thread smile My most recent purchase are these Zara boots in black. They are surprisingly comfy too, I wore them all day out shopping on the weekend and didn't have any painful feet issues grin

I really want some skinny leg kick flare jeans like this but I haven't had much luck with a high street version yet sad

Doshusallie Tue 12-Feb-13 13:09:21

I got some blue ones from New Look and some black ones from Next Lonely.

Ilovemyteddy Tue 12-Feb-13 13:52:14
Doshusallie Tue 12-Feb-13 14:06:08

Ilove they look fab. I do have ballet flats in every colour but blue though so really can't justify it!!!! sad

pudding25 Tue 12-Feb-13 14:35:55

Another great shop, if you have one near you, is Internationale. The stuff is mega cheap and good quality. Have bought loads of skinnies from there and all washed really well.

Engelsemama Tue 12-Feb-13 14:56:24

I picked up some lovely stuff from Sainsbury's last week that will be great for work.

Pair of nude heels for 14 pounds
Navy A line skirt (lined, top layer sort of broderie angalise) for 22 pounds
2 scoop necked tops in yellow and salmon (to go with heels and skirt) 6 pounds each ( reduced from 12)
Glam (for me) dress past the knees with asymetrical blue and white stripes and tie detail on one hip. really flattering. (22 pounds).

Can't find any of them to link on crappy TU website (except heels).

Going back now to catch up on thread and see what you've all been buying and covetting smile .

landofsoapandglory Tue 12-Feb-13 15:18:31

I came past Peacocks last night and they had a lovely navy and white, horizontal stripe blazer in the window. They had it with red skinny jeans, it looked really nice!

mrspolkadotty Tue 12-Feb-13 15:36:26

River Island dark wash skinny jeans
White vest top - Tesco
Navy & white breton top - Boden
Oversized navy cardi - Primark
Cream scarf with blue flowers - Primark or Peacocks, can't remember
Grey 'bailey button' Uggs

Finally caught up with Silent Witness last night on Sky+ and i am lusting after some Nikki-esque pieces for spring. I want a tweedy blazer, some heels that won't make me go arse over tit, new skinny jeans and some floaty tops. Anyone seen any nice stuff around??

It's my birthday next month and i'm planning a spending spree grin for some new togs once i stop eating Haribo and shift half a stone

CointreauVersial Tue 12-Feb-13 16:42:49

For work today, I wore:

Dark green tie-waist dress from Zara sale
Grey and black striped long merino cardi, from M&S, via charity shop
Grey opaque supersoft cotton tights (M&S Autograph - highly recommended, lovely grey marl colour and nice and cosy)
Long black wedge-heel boots from Next (ancient)

Back home now, and slumped on the sofa contemplating pancake-making, wearing:

Grey Gul hoody (which I like because it has my year of birth on it....1967...gulp)
Black Elle yoga trousers, ancient TKMaxx bargain.

Quite the glamour puss I am at home.grin

Doshusallie Tue 12-Feb-13 18:36:49

Landof that sounds lovely I wonder if it is online [goes to look]

Doshusallie Tue 12-Feb-13 18:42:30
landofsoapandglory Tue 12-Feb-13 18:57:37

Yes, that's the one Doshusallie.

PetronellaSterling Tue 12-Feb-13 20:22:09

Have a look at It's a newish site where women (rather than the terrifyingly beuaitful young and hip thangs that post on WIWT and similar) post what they're wearing, or ask for style advice etc. Seems pretty friendly as well.

MimikosPanda Tue 12-Feb-13 21:43:46

Engels Sainsburys sometimes turns out to be a goldmine, doesn't it. I can never understand why they don't have the clothes online like Asda and Tesco do, I think they'd make a killing. I started going in to look at the childrens clothes after friends said they were nice and well priced and discovered the womens section. I'd buy far more from there if they had an online option, even if it was just to browse to decide if it was worth a trip.

I'm currently lusting over this sweatshirt in Newlook, I love it in the pink and the blue but have no reason to buy it sad.

Inspired by Kat on, I thought I'd have a nosey through the Forever21 website. I have had a few bits from there but because the nearest is quite far away it isn't a regular shopping spot for me.
In the past the light weight chiffon type tops I've had from there have been poor quality but the knitted jumpers from there I've been really impressed with.

After the tip about Internacionale I'm going to go in there soon, we do have one nearby but I usually overlook it, not sure why really.

Anyway, back to Forever21, these are my wishlist:

Spotted sweater 14.25 similar to the current one in Next at 28

Woven cotton top 11.25 Perfect for summer and spring and 100% cotton

Rosebud lace tee 12 This looks really pretty

Button back lace top 18.75 Looks great and love the champagne colour

Large loop v-neck sweater 18.75 Love both colours

AlwaysReadyForABlether Tue 12-Feb-13 22:13:03

How depressing - according to that Forever 21 site a size 14 is large!

MimikosPanda Tue 12-Feb-13 22:24:30

Yes, the sizes in there are pretty harsh, I'm an 8 and I've been know to try on the odd size large. They have a range called Love21 and the sizes in Love21 are much kinder!

AlwaysReadyForABlether Tue 12-Feb-13 22:30:07

What is Peacocks sizing like? I've seen a few nice things online but don't want to waste my time ordering if it's tiny.

Roopoo Wed 13-Feb-13 08:21:55

I would say Peacocks is pretty generous. If im a 16 then Im a 16 in Peacockssmile
We are having a duvet day
Flower pj bottoms for lounging - 4pounds Asda sale

I think Peacocks comes up a little bigger than somewhere like H&M. I bought a check shirt in an 8 and it's a little gape-y

Today I'm bumming around at home so I'm just in jeans and a hoodie, couldn't really be fussed this morning

Ashoething Wed 13-Feb-13 09:35:57

Today I am wearing-

VivaLeBeaver Wed 13-Feb-13 17:18:08

I quite like these

CointreauVersial Wed 13-Feb-13 17:35:58

Today at work I was wearing:

Cream embroidered-front longsleeved top, ancient Per Una, I think
Cornflower blue fitted cardi with velvet trim, from Laura Ashley
Grey tailored trousers, also Laura Ashley
Black heeled brogues, from Clarks

Laura Ashley do some nice office-y bits; it is generally a bit pricey for me, but they have great reductions in the sales (I like a hefty discount, and get irritated if stuff is a measly10% or 20% off - that's not a sale in my book!grin )

Now back from work, and back in the yoga trews and hoody....

Ashoething Wed 13-Feb-13 20:05:29

Sorry roo i couldnt find my boots online.

stefb Wed 13-Feb-13 20:49:55

This is the first time I have replied or messaged anything on mumsnet so I'm new to this. I am 40+ mum of 2 aged 5 and 13. My trouble is I had spinal surgery last year and haven't been right since. I've lost my confidence I used to be what I'd class as very trendy up with all the latest styles. Now I'm a mess. I haven't got the money for designer, I love primark, DP, H&M and all that but as my daughter is 13 I often look at stuff now and think it would suit her so I shouldn't be wearing it. I think this thread will be an inspiration to me. The mums where I live seem to be stylish, I have some lovely friends at school but they are younger so I wouldn't want to be seen as mutton dressed as lamb. I seem to be a 'difficult age' !! Help!

landofsoapandglory Wed 13-Feb-13 20:56:01

Stefb I feel the same as you. I have had 2 lots of spinal surgery, and a lot of clothes can be uncomfortable. I, also, have 2 teenaged boys and feel like sometimes I shouldn't be wearing what I wear. It is difficult being 40 something, I am 42 in 2 weeks, I want to wear things then worry if I should, but don't want to look like my mother IYSWIM!

stefb Wed 13-Feb-13 21:02:53

Thanks landofsoapandglory, I can't wear heels anymore as I end up in agony. Shopping is a nightmare can't walk that far so internet shopping is the only way but I never know about sizing. I know what you mean about looking like your mother lol. I'm a bit stuck really, I spend my time looking at other women to see what they are wearing but my daughter says I should be more daring

MimikosPanda Wed 13-Feb-13 21:46:43

Not had a chance to catch up and read what I've missed, only just got in and still haven't had my dinner yet.

Nothing interesting on the clothes front today, I've been out and about in the snow all day so dressed for warmth rather than style.

Fleece lined tights - Primark
Leggings - Matalan
Bootcut jeans - Next (old)
Long sleeve t-shirt - Next SP Outlet
Fine knit jumper - Next SP Outlet
Thin hoodie - Roxy
Thicker hoodie - Republic

Plus coat, hat, gloves and as many socks as I could fit on inside my wellies!
I looked a mess. According to the radio it will be warmer tomorrow so I can try to look half decent grin

katykoo Wed 13-Feb-13 21:55:09

land and stefb Too right you should be more daring. It is so easy to get into a style rut.The very fact that you are responding to this thread means that deep down inside there is part of you that really cares about what you wear otherwise you would still be lurking or hanging round in Chat ! I am 43 this year and am slowly but surely beginning to worry less about what other people think. In fact, now I actually get off at being a bit different from other mums at school( Although I have a pair of tweed shorts upstairs that I am still toying with.)
I don't have a huge budget but get inspiration from magazines, S & B ( of course) and Pinterest. I decide on what I like and try to copy them with high street alternatives. I also find I tend to veer towards classic looks rather than 'fast fashion' without even thinking about it. I shop mainly in Primark, New Look, H & M and occasionally Topshop and River Island.

katykoo Wed 13-Feb-13 22:00:19

By the way, today I am wearing:
Indigo Skinny jeans ( River Island)
H & M Breton jumper
Tan wedge boots ( Matalan)
Black fur jacket ( Tesco)
Tan faux leather shopper bag ( Warehouse but good copy of Zara classic)

Roopoo Wed 13-Feb-13 22:35:04

Still loving this thread!!!
Tomorrow Im hitting Primark!

stefb Wed 13-Feb-13 22:40:19

Thanks katykoo, I was getting to the stage that I was more confident in what I wore and didn't really care but then after surgery that went. So next week I'm going to stay with a friend who's going to get me to try things on I wouldn't normally look this space!

CointreauVersial Wed 13-Feb-13 22:41:46

I have two hours to kill tomorrow evening in an unfamiliar town, so have identified a big Sainsburys branch nearby to do my weekly shop. And I might just have a quick look at the clothes, just research, of course.wink

SilverSky Thu 14-Feb-13 00:18:48

Great thread! smile

I need to find a new coat. I'm currently sporting Him Indoors' spare jacket. It fit me when I was pregnant. The baby is now 6mo and the jacket has to go. It does nothing for me.

What are you wearing coat wise?

MimikosPanda Thu 14-Feb-13 08:10:44

I have 2 coats now, both Primark. One is a navy pea coat that I changed the buttons on and removed the fur collar to make it look smarter, it has lasted well and for £30 I can't complain. To have something more casual I later bought a puffa down jacket for £16 and it is really warm and I've had lots of compliments on it.
I nearly splurged and bought an £80 from DP back in October but I'm glad I took a chance on Primark.

Trills Thu 14-Feb-13 08:20:23

Today is red jersey dress from Dorothy Perkins (under £20), black stretchy belt from M&S (£5), black cardigan from Sainsburys (not sure of price, it was a gift) and Primark diamond-pattern tights.

MimikosPanda Thu 14-Feb-13 09:08:56

I'm in

Indigo Skinnies - DP
Long body burgundy vest - H&M
Burgundy/cream stipe fine knit sweater - River Island
Bearpaw boots -TKMaxx

I'll add a scarf but not decided which yet.

freddiefrog Thu 14-Feb-13 09:55:01

Just helping at school today, so nothing exciting

Jeggings - Matalan
Blue & white striped long top - Crew
Brown Mardy boots - Caterpillar

MiaCulper Thu 14-Feb-13 10:02:23

Happy Valentine's Day, fellow bargain hunters.

Today I am wearing: black skinnies - H&M
Black, long-sleeved t-shirt - Primark
Black, suede, wedge heel boots - Wallis
This tunic, which is more of an oatmeal colour than the picture shows, - Wallis - and a nod to the date. wink

CointreauVersial Thu 14-Feb-13 13:07:52

I'm at work again today, wearing a new skirt I bought from H&M last week. It was a bargain £5 from the sale rail, it's a mini skirt in a bright pink tweedy material, and I am beyond pleased with it.

I was a bit worried it might be a bit short for work, but no fewer than three people came up to me and admired it - result!

I wore it with a black polo-neck skinny rib jumper from Dunnes (Ireland) and long black boots.

Ashoething Thu 14-Feb-13 13:09:04

CointreauVersial Thu 14-Feb-13 23:09:53

Just back from the mahoosive Sainsbos in Epsom. I was very restrained in the end, buying a checked shirt and a scarf. All sorts of lovely clothing, though (it's not a shop I normally go to). DD2 picked up a dress and some leggings, and DD1 a sleeveless shirt.

MimikosPanda Fri 15-Feb-13 07:38:00

Cointreau That was very restrained in Sainsburys! Did you see all of the new Gok range? What did you think?

I'm going to a nearby shopping centre today, yey! It has a Primark, New Look & H&M all bigger than my local ones. I'm only taking one of the DC with me so I've convinced myself that this will be just like a childfree shopping trip even though I know thats deluding myself!!

There is a Debenhams too so I'm going to see if any of the things from my wishlist the other night are in there.
