For lots of nice stuff, links and so on.

shopafrolic Tue 29-Jan-13 20:08:00

Beat me to it. Nice one! This one should be sub headed - following fashion with gay abandon!

MarshaBrady Tue 29-Jan-13 20:10:06

I know I went for the minimalist route! Nearly dropped the MN for a sleek Vogue vol.4. Might be too much? grin

Novice which Balenciaga?

Dona look vol. 4, you are always welcome, would be great to have you back.

Annianni Tue 29-Jan-13 20:11:52

Shop did you get your lovely new scarf from FC or Tkmaxx?

I need one grin

Still saves the hassle of thinking up rhyming thread titles like we did with W&A...

MarshaBrady Tue 29-Jan-13 20:19:26

Agree, minimal it is.

sansucre Tue 29-Jan-13 20:21:26

I always loved the W&A thread titles. However, I feel Anna Wintour (although not Alexandra Shulman) would appreciate the starkness of this thread title.

I often wonder how AS got that gig.

sansucre Tue 29-Jan-13 20:23:30

Don't we all!

Mominatrix Tue 29-Jan-13 20:23:31

Marking my place. I still am trying to think of things I want/need for this season (besides THE dress). I am trying to be good because I have my name down for a new bag too. Technically I am banned from purchasing anything for the next couple months, but I can ogle from the sidelines.

MarshaBrady Tue 29-Jan-13 20:24:03

Hey Sansucre!

So while we're on the topic, would you drop the MN?

I imagine them like Vogue magazines stacked neatly, with the white spine.

MarshaBrady Tue 29-Jan-13 20:24:36

Hey Mominatrix, woohoo.

shopafrolic Tue 29-Jan-13 20:25:45

Anni 'twas from TK Maxx in sunny London Colney. Last one on the shelf.....

Annianni Tue 29-Jan-13 20:29:11

Thanks Shop, I didn't look at scarves, might nip back tomorrow.

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 20:40:01

Yay - a new thread! God those bags, I was never into bags at all until I discovered MN and now I am desperately feeling like I need something decadent for my shoulder/arm...

Shop I have done well in TKMaxx but I visit a branch almost every week to check it out as stock moves fast. I regularly visit branches in Uxbridge, Harrow, Hammersmith and Wembley Central - which are all locations I pass through with work commitments. Wembley Central branch is my favourite - (if you don't know the area it's awful - the joys of public sector work, offices in horrible locations) but it's by far the tidiest, brightest best laid out TKMaxx ever. I have been searching for jeans for two months and yesterday's success with the 7FAM's was at the Harrow branch and it was probably the least numbers of pairs of jeans I had seen there and they were the only pair of 7's there.

sansucre Tue 29-Jan-13 20:42:31

Marsha! I imagine that if the Mumsnet tag was to be dropped, you, we, the thread could be accused of being elitest hmm
However, I don't mind that at all, especially as it will almost be a pre-warning that this thread includes all the lovely fashion terminology that (some) others seems to find so disdainful. We can talk about pops of colour, a red lip, strong brows, Bretons and the perfect kind of trouser (or shoe) to our hearts content. Plus, I quite agree, it will look far nicer for future filing purposes.

I really need to try to stop by this thread more. I was trying to figure out

MarshaBrady Tue 29-Jan-13 20:45:48

Sansucre grin I do love a strong brow. Did you get the Sessun peacoat in the end? I didn't, not even in the sale.

shopafrolic Tue 29-Jan-13 20:48:57

That's the issue, I don't have the patience for TK Maxx shopping, and I couldn't understand why they had to search the clothes I was trying on before and after I went into the changing room.
They told me they get deliveries at 5pm everyday so you need to go in then for the best deals. Not going to happen for me. I'll stick to the Outnet I think.

shopafrolic Tue 29-Jan-13 20:50:38

Sansucre laughing as I hang some more 'pieces' in my wardrobe

sansucre Tue 29-Jan-13 20:50:56

I did. Then promptly took it back as I decided to buy the Max & Co coat instead. And I'm glad I did because a) it's the best coat ever and b) I spotted the Sessun peacoat in the peacock blue in an advert for DFS or some other furniture store!

And I do love a strong brow too. Btw, I've just painted my nails for a nice pop of colour against the grey I'm planning to wear tomorrow grin

sansucre Tue 29-Jan-13 20:51:50

Piece!! Thank you Shop, I knew there was something I'd missed out!

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 20:52:33

Marsha all your links to your lovely winter white Acne sweater and the number of times you mentioned wearing it had me yearning for one so today I ordered this Ivory Des Petits Hauts. Intend to wear it almost exactly as modeled there and also to wear with this H&M print skirt which I bought just before Christmas.

MarshaBrady Tue 29-Jan-13 20:53:53

lol Sansucre. And DFS! I'm glad I didn't too.

MarshaBrady Tue 29-Jan-13 20:55:06

Ah that's gorgeous Liberty. Love that H&M skirt too.

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 20:56:45

Oh the searches at TKMaxx are just ridiculous - it must be a new policy as it was quite pointed yesterday.

People will be foaming at the mouth sansucre grin

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 20:59:30

The H&M skirt is amazing - really heavy jersey. It's the sort of shape I usually avoid but it actually holds my saddlebags in and makes me look rather bootylicious!

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 21:00:59

Actually I need a lesson in fabric terminology - it's probably ponte not jersey???? You know what I mean, stretchy and flammable!

sansucre Tue 29-Jan-13 21:04:32

I will start playing nice sad

Given that you (*Marsha*) own a beautiful Stella coat, I think you'd have been disappointed by the way the Sessun would have worn. Once you get used to a coat made from good quality wool, it's hard to go back to a lesser made fabric.

Oooh, nice skirt and sweater Liberty

joliejolie Tue 29-Jan-13 21:07:05

I need this top but it's sold out and I haven't seen it anywhere else in pink. Sigh.

MarshaBrady Tue 29-Jan-13 21:07:41

It's all good fun.

The Sessun was a bit scratchy. I'm glad I didn't get it now.

Yes know what you mean Liberty, I really like it.

MarshaBrady Tue 29-Jan-13 21:09:05

Nice Jolie jolie! What a shame it's sold out.

I do really well in TK Maxx, last year I had Moschino and Westwood skirts and a Calvin Klein wool/cashmere coat for a total of less than £150. persistence is key, I go once or twice every week. The one I go to is particularly designer focused though. They had Louboutins once!

This dress is haunting me. It has turned up in my local charity shop and I love it but at size 12 it is just too big. I'm seriously considering buying it and having it altered, but the leather may complicate things...

AwkwardSquad Tue 29-Jan-13 21:13:08

Hi Jolie, might be worth a call to Fenwicks Newcastle. They stock Maison Scotch and they may have different stock to Fenwicks online.

noviceoftheday Tue 29-Jan-13 21:13:14

Hi Marsha! I can't make up my mind about which Balenciaga - I have wanted it for about 3 years and every time I think about, I go off and get something else grin.

I can't make up my mind between classic town which I like in the green or classic city. I like the classic city in the turquoise or the yellow (curry). I think I have ruled out the Giant as I am petite so sometimes bags can be too big.

I used to love TkMaxx but since having kids, having had the time to really rummage around and get a good deal.

QueenCadbury Tue 29-Jan-13 21:13:36

My goodness you lot move fast. I'd only gone away for a shower, come back and you're on p2 of a new thread grin

sansucre Tue 29-Jan-13 21:13:58

Buy it. A good tailor will be able to alter it with no problem at all.

shopafrolic Tue 29-Jan-13 21:15:00

That dress is lovely Amber. Any chance of you sharing or PMing me your designer focused store name?

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 21:15:47

Amber that is a great dress. If you get it in the 12 from your charity shop and it turns out it can't be altered I promise I will buy it from you...

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 21:16:27

Damn it! Shop wants it too....

Putney is the good TK I go to. Also decent are Kingston and Guildford.

shopafrolic Tue 29-Jan-13 21:18:42

[Grin] at Liberty. Haven't know the thread this busy for a long time! Feel like I'm missing some of the insider knowledge on who's who though....

MarshaBrady Tue 29-Jan-13 21:18:57

Amber buy it for sure.

Novice swoon again. Ok. The classic city for me. In Curry. Ah so nice.

shopafrolic Tue 29-Jan-13 21:19:43

Thanks Amber will try Kensington HS when next at hairdressers and then Putney if no good!

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 21:20:02

Novice they are both gorgeous but if you want opinions my vote is with classic town.

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 21:22:59

Shop I don't know anyone on this thread IRL - I am just being very presumptuous and greedy

Mrsap Tue 29-Jan-13 21:30:57

This is now a v speedy thread indeed. I don't find anything at the high st ken TK max. Cheltenham however is excellent.

noviceoftheday Tue 29-Jan-13 21:34:37

Aargh, see and this is why I can't make up my mind! grin

Hi Shop, I am a newbie on the thread (though not MN). Don't know anyone in real life. Love clothes and love accessories even more!

shopafrolic Tue 29-Jan-13 21:37:57

I always find it so hard to keep track and am never sure if some people have name changed since Vol 1. I don't know any of the posters in RL but they've all helped me enormously to get my fashion confidence back!

MarshaBrady Tue 29-Jan-13 21:39:07

Shop I've met a few, and lovely ultra stylish people they are too, but mostly it's from hanging around s&b so much.

But it's all the same, it doesn't matter. Here just for the gay abandon as it were.

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 21:39:11

Well you may to buy both then Novice!

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 21:40:14

Missing a 'have' in that sentence. Flipping between this and some work I am doing...

shopafrolic Tue 29-Jan-13 21:46:21

I meant to say earlier it's good to see Hopefully back blogging with her teaser post today!

noviceoftheday Tue 29-Jan-13 21:57:26

Liberty, I am so so tempted, but, given my other obsessions (mainly shoes and jewellery!) I couldn't even begin to justify it! Dh not here tonight but I am sure he just sighed with relief grin.

Hello all I've moved from the Breton top thread and wondered whether I could join in?
I bought 2 Bretons today( a red and white stripe and another in black and white as i intend to work monochrome this seasongrin)I was feeling bang on trend with my boyfriend jeans......am looking for A pointy nude ballet pump without toe cleavage ( fat duck feet).........

And btw I bought this today to wear with boyfriends and the pumps (when I find them)
lovely

MarshaBrady Tue 29-Jan-13 22:13:45

Hi Drywhite love the top, so pretty. Well done on the Bretons!

Completely see through though ESP the back which weirdly is a completely different fabric to the front. Still love it though but hating this new thing in cheaper shops where the detail is on the front and the back is awful.....don't people turn round these days? ( am I getting old.....shudder)

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 22:20:21

Welcome drywhite. Top is gorgeous - I must go to River Island more often.

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 22:22:52

I have noticed that with several tops lately - sheer backs (which I just assumed was in) and cheap jersey backs - not good for anyone with any backfat or those of us who prefer a more industrial bra strap.

noviceoftheday Tue 29-Jan-13 22:23:26

Very nice Drywhiteplease

shopafrolic Tue 29-Jan-13 22:24:19

Glad you made it Drywhite

Mrsap Tue 29-Jan-13 22:26:05

Finally caught up. Novice, I am tragically corruptible, so pls share?

Hi dry white, I am fairly new to this thread too and find it far more welcoming (and interesting) than one or two otherswinkwink.

I also have a few Bretons. What can I say?

Agree Mrsap ..........

shopafrolic Tue 29-Jan-13 22:38:25

Final reductions in Atterley Road sale, spotted a nice basic American Vintage sweatshirt in white size 10 at a bargain price and a breton inspired J Crew top for £15. Night fashionistas!

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 22:42:25

That's a bit scary Shop I just came on to post this bargain silk shirt at Atterley Rd. Wrong colour for me unfortunately.

shopafrolic Tue 29-Jan-13 22:43:44

Great minds!

QueenBOObread Tue 29-Jan-13 22:49:40

Drywhite that's a really lovely top. Very Isabel Marant.

I saw this skirt in Agnes B yesterday - so pretty, but I'd never buy it as it wouldn't get enough wear to justify the price tag. And it is polyester! But I am definitely in the market for a monochrome skirt if anyone sees anything of interest.

<Not that I can really complain about polyester given that I'm presently wearing
this which has never met a natural fibre in its life...>

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 23:01:29

What about this QueenBOOBread

libertychick Tue 29-Jan-13 23:02:45

smile at the fleece - cosy!

QueenBOObread Tue 29-Jan-13 23:19:52

Ooh close Libertychick but I fear the pleats from the waist would emphasise my less-than-washboard-esque stomach. The print's pretty though. thanks

Mominatrix Wed 30-Jan-13 06:13:54

Love that shirt, Drywhiteplease. I love that style - it reminds me of vicotrian girls' dresses. In fact, I love the style so much that I actually own a victorian girl's dress from 1890 which I actually do occasionally wear. It is essentially that shirt in a dress style.

QueenBOO - love that skirt! I have not been in an Agnes B in over a decade. The whole poly at exorbiitant prices thing used to bother me, then you realize there is cheap poly, and then there is nice poly. Still, it is difficult to mentally pay up the nose for synthetic fibres. What style skirt are you looking for?

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 08:58:29

Me either Mominatrix, I used to love it in my twenties. I remember that dark navy with small white dots print. Especially the Floral St store, I do wonder how it's going not much Agnès B chat anymore.

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 09:14:57

QueenBoo some monochrome skirts.

DKNY may be a bit reminiscent of those 3D posters.

Zero+Mariacornejo

Too expensive Derek Lam but pretty.

Too girly Anna Sui but good discount.

Proenza Schouler shame it's viscose.

Lovely shirt Liberty.

Annianni Wed 30-Jan-13 11:12:14

My local Tkmaxx does have 7's.... in a size 24, so that'll be a no for me!

No nice red scarves either sad

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 11:58:14

So what's everyone wearing today?

Am in ditsy floral blouse urban outfitters
Sandro red cardigan
Teal skinny cord J Brands

Dries jumper here will try on later, eek.

Black Whistles cashmere cardi
Grey banana republic T
Black polka dot Moschino skirt
Grey Falke tights
Multicoloured ASOS glittery ballets flats

Have got my lovely pale grey Rocco with me today also.

Agnes B, so nineties. Like Koh Samui and Maharishi trousers. The things we wore!

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 12:12:39

I love that Rocco Amber. How's it doing? (did you get it looked at or was that something else).

noviceoftheday Wed 30-Jan-13 12:14:45

M&S pyjamas, the duvet and diamonds. dh bought me a ring for Christmas but it was too big,so the correct sized one was delivered today. He bought size N. I am an I on that finger. Bless. grin I am sick but determined to wear it so it has joined me in my sick bed!

noddyholder Wed 30-Jan-13 12:15:12

I still have my maharishis wear them for decorating but secretly still think I am in ibiza

noviceoftheday Wed 30-Jan-13 12:15:50

amber what's rococo?

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 12:21:02

Love it Novice very decadent, hope you feel better soon.

Lol Noddy.

That particular trend passed me by, as did going to Ibiza.

Mominatrix Wed 30-Jan-13 12:23:45

Wearing a D&G sleeveless hunter green/ black/yellow/red wool tartan print on the front, cable jumper in back with oversized cable cowl neck dress. It goes down to bottom of calf. Cream heat tech tee under, and shearling lines high heeled ankle moti boots. I bought the dress about 14 years ago (15?) and still occasionally wear it.

Annianni Wed 30-Jan-13 12:25:31

I'm wearing dark slim leg jeans from gap, m&s thermal vest and a huge grey chunky polo neck.
I had my taupe beas on when I ventured out earlier.

How's the Dries Marsha?

Annianni Wed 30-Jan-13 12:29:10

I was in ibiza in 95 or 96. It's a bit of a blur but was great fun grin

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 12:41:25

It's really lovely quality, bright. Might be a bit too bright for me.

We had things called Earth Core, raves in the forest (near Melbourne). My fashion was fairly woeful iirc.

noddyholder Wed 30-Jan-13 12:43:14

I think the blurriness made the maharishis acceptable

shopafrolic Wed 30-Jan-13 13:27:42

A&W pretty much head to toe today! Grey peacock sweatshirt and navy chinos rolled up with Ash Jalouse.
Sun is shining, need to get organised with the spring wardrobe.

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 13:31:17

Yep me too. I've decided to use the £150 for the Dries sweater for SS new stuff. Lovely as it is, it's still a bit expensive for a sale item.

I loved Maharishis. I thought I was Jennifer Aniston.

This is Rocco. Marsha, not taken it on yet, need to this week. Can't bear to be parted.

noddyholder Wed 30-Jan-13 13:34:41

Me too amber! The lower on the hip bone the better grin

Payday tomorrow thank god. Have been on a spending ban after the tax bill of hell. Am going to order my Tibi jumper tomorrow.

QueenCadbury Wed 30-Jan-13 13:44:18

Can you ladies inspire me with what you're hoping to buy for spring. Apart from the new look shoes I found nothing else to buy on Monday and for the first time in my life I'm not really sure what I want. I do love drywhite blouse though.

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 13:48:27

I know, I wish everyone would start getting better stock in.

I'm sure I'd like Lanvin flats in blush. But that's easy I had them last year in yellow.

I'd like a summer dress
A knit
Skirt

Which is hopeless as haven't narrowed it down yet to which ones. But will start getting a better list together.

noviceoftheday Wed 30-Jan-13 13:49:18

Oh purrrrrr Amber!

Thanks Marsha, I suspect it will be an expensive flu!

libertychick Wed 30-Jan-13 14:26:31

Today I am wearing Hobbs multicoloured flared skirt (red and cobalt being the main colours), with boat necked, 3/4 sleeve black jumper, black tights with herringbone pattern and red suede Clarks ballet flats. Silver jewelery, Zara oversize black lace scarf.

Agree we need to get talking about spring - I want a colourful dress for work, couple of lightweight bright cardis, navy or light coloured chinos and some sandals (both for work and casual).

Marsha good call on the Dries. Yay indeed for payday - although with me it's chasing invoices as I am freelance. Agreed some extra work yesterday so that will clear the January credit card bill though ATM invoices are running about 5 weeks behind so will be March before I see the money.

I want a Tibi lobster sweater
Some flat sandals (like a Balenciaga pair)
Navy leopard Jimmy Choo loafers
Couple of T by AW tops
New underwear as mine is a disgrace
A Petit Bateau Breton

Glad you all like my blouse....would love it in black (but not done and I'm on a black ban)
I'm loving all the soft colours this pring ESP minty green. I bought a coat last week in a local shop in a peppermint green in the sales, wool, cashmere, 3/4 length, wrap style with belt. Fab.......massive 70% reduction....if any of you Londoners see a woman (possessed) wandering round Regent st during half term with said coat it'll be me.

Im wearing :
Black skinny jeans
Dune wedge black lace ups
Grey marl boxy merino sweater uniqlo
"Mulberry" fab finches black scarf

Ooh and on the top of my SS wish list are these
pumps
I wanted something like
these pointy
But they looked terrible on my feetsad

noviceoftheday Wed 30-Jan-13 16:06:13

Drywhiteplease, those ballerinas are lovely. A few months go I bought these similar ones black and leopard I heart R&B.

Oh wow....think I have found my home on Vogue thread!!!!!!
novice I hadn't seen those because I was only looking or a nude colour ....but now.........!!!how have they worn?
A few years ago i bought some animal print similar to the R and B ones, have worn them loads.

Mominatrix Wed 30-Jan-13 17:22:45

My shopping list:

Peter Pilotto dress
Aquazurra heels Droool!
white skinnies (I wore my old ones out)
Mid heel stilettos (like the ones novice just purchased)

That is it so far. I have yet to be inspired this season.

AlwaysSleepingBeauty Wed 30-Jan-13 17:27:55

Gosh I can barely keep up! I love the idea of these Vogues stacked up, I'll put them next to my ordinary ones...I have every one since I was 14 blush

I have only used Atterley Road once, but the customer service was very good (plus the newsletters are always so pretty!)

I'm on a spending ban too (or at least an attempt at one!) but I did just buy this, I'm pleased to find its more of a peachy nude than a brown. I plan to wear it with a vintage snakeskin belt and Gucci sunglasses from the 70s smile

AlwaysSleepingBeauty Wed 30-Jan-13 17:29:21
Pseudonymity Wed 30-Jan-13 17:35:09

Hi Marsha (hi everyone), can I ask how did the Lanvin flats fare last year? I'm considering the gold ones on NAP.

Thanks for lovely links, I hope you don't mind me popping in.

QueenCadbury Wed 30-Jan-13 17:41:16

drywhite and novice I wish you hadn't linked to r&b as I'm now in love with the navy. Glad I'm not the only one to be inspired. I normally have a wish list as long as my arm once the new stock arrives in shops.

Queen have you seen the bags that match?<faints>

noviceoftheday Wed 30-Jan-13 17:55:08

They have both worn well. Pretty much most weekends during the autumn (and the black ones to and from my office). I should say as well that they stretch. I am usually 3.5 in flats but they only had them in 3s, but the assistant convinced me that they would stretch and she was right.

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 17:56:44

AlwaysSleeping love the dress and the outfit with the vintage snakeskin belt, Gucci glasses. Perfect! And where do you keep all your Vogues. How much of a wall does it take up?

Mominatrix love that site, but I think it goes to the homepage. Flash is not our friend for linking. Which ones would you like?

Love the R&B flats.

Hi Pseudonymity great to see you on here. I possibly should have resoled, I wore them everyday and they got holes. The gold ones sound gorgeous. What else is on your SS list?

What do people do when they get new thinnish-soled shoes? Spray and resole before wearing? this is the colour I'll have to do something.

AlwaysSleepingBeauty Wed 30-Jan-13 18:04:43

Thank you Marsha, it's quite a plain dress on its own but I love things that give me ideas.

The Vogues take up a lot of space, I am 25 in March so there are already quite a lot, but there will be more and more. They are in s different places, but it feels like they are everywhere sometimes...

QueenBOObread Wed 30-Jan-13 18:10:16

Wow this thread is rattling along now! Hurray!

Wearing Burberry Brit burgandy check shift dress, black opaques, black patent R&B heels (comfiest shoes I own) and now Joseph navy coat. Accessorised with some chipped lotus rouge on my nails - how I hate it when they get scruffy.

Love the R&B flats. I'm a huge fan but find the fit of R&B shoes inconsistent. After months of moaning about their website I prefer to go to into a shop confused. The navy tote is SO classy but I'm off big bags having just finished my maternity leave. Small, nappy-free bags all the way!

thanks for Marsha for the black and white skirts. Typically I like the Derek Lamb best but it's way past budget and then some. Just getting off the train now so will post more later.

Mominatrix Wed 30-Jan-13 18:15:39

Marsha, I'd love to get a pair of the beige Sexy Thing. It would really become a staple. Love also the Mai Tai - would go great with the Prada dress I bought last year. While we are at it, the Tequilla Sunrise just for the sheer fabulousness. The great thing about Aquazurra is that it is not in the silly price category yet, so I might be able to contemplate getting 2 pairs.

Mrsap Wed 30-Jan-13 18:27:59

Mominatrix love that link but am I being dense. I can't see how u actually buy those shoes?

noviceoftheday Wed 30-Jan-13 18:31:57

Marsha, I would resole first based on my experience when I bought my first pair of expensive flats (Choos). I complained to them after a couple of months because the soles were worn. They said that I should have resoled them first because that's what everyone does ie they weren't really designed to be worn by ladies who actually walk! Not sure Tamara Mellon would agree. hmm

noviceoftheday Wed 30-Jan-13 18:34:23

Hello Mrsap... I posted the Balenciaga links earlier on in the thread.

Mominatrix Wed 30-Jan-13 18:47:52

Ah yes, I linked the company website. This SHOULD link to buying options (Browns, Matches, etc). Prices are at Russell and Bromley levels (sometimes even less), but amazing styling.

Mominatrix Wed 30-Jan-13 18:58:07

Marsha, I always take thin soled shoes to the cobbler prior to wearing. With the abuse I give to shoes, it is out of the question I would wear it without being protectively soled. I also have an armory of leather protection products - probably because I love box and saddle leathers which definitely need protection for use in UK weather.

QueenBOObread Wed 30-Jan-13 19:06:00

D'you know, it's never occurred to me to pre-emptively resole shoes. Is there somewhere specialist to go? I've re-soled clumpier shoes and boots at Timpson but I wouldn't trust them with my favourites!

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 19:12:34

Me either but I definitely will now, thanks! What's a great protector? Am looking after the next ones.

Yes, I spotted these little beauties in matches spy the other day. Definite competition for the Choos.

Mominatrix Wed 30-Jan-13 19:43:58

Yes! I am infatuated with Aquazzura now. Gorgeous, well priced, and worn by Giovanna Battaglia (my girl crush).

For shoe/handbag protection, I swear by Blackrock Leather 'n Rich and Obenauf's Heavy Duty Leather Protectant. Makes expensive, delicate leathers virtually waterproof, and nourishes the leather on pricey handbags. These are I read about on an Hermes vintage leather thread which I then used for all my leather products.

QueenCadbury Wed 30-Jan-13 19:45:18

drywhite I'm trying to ignore the bags on there as they are lush especially the chanel-esque ones. There is now one on my 40th birthday wish list for later in the year.

AlwaysSleepingBeauty Wed 30-Jan-13 19:48:40

I love the colour of those Amber

pickledsiblings Wed 30-Jan-13 20:20:20

marking my place, great chat ladies, keep it up

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 20:43:45

Thanks Momin that is fantastic, will get that.

Am seriously thinking about white stilettos. Thinking. But could be fresh <second time I have said this but I just saw a pin.> Fresh take!

Love the outfit here, a version here Matches.

Love the Altuzarra, going to have a peruse.

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 20:45:53

Hey Pickled what's on your SS list?

AlwaysSleepingBeauty Wed 30-Jan-13 20:57:45

I may have just accidentally bought Chanel La Favorite lipstick blush

Mominatrix Wed 30-Jan-13 21:08:00

I love the idea of white stilettos, but could never rock the look as I would get the shoe scuffed within 5 minutes. I've seen some great white heels like this one, but not for klutzy me. I do have a pair of white stiletto trainers - not wedges like the Ash or IM, but they look like converse with rubber 4inch heels. Needless to say, they are filthy, but it goes with the whole trainer look.

Mominatrix Wed 30-Jan-13 21:08:21

idea should have been italicised, not crossed out

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 21:17:47

I know they would scuff wouldn't they. But they are bugging me so might have to try on. When Spring is here.

Fashion is soooo fickle! One minute you're in white stilettos, next they're the height of chavdom then they're back in......same with "drainpipes", out then in again called "skinnies", same with leggings....in.out,in....same with Chanel bags........I actually think a white stiletto would be a really versatile shoe....non?wink

lurkingaround Wed 30-Jan-13 21:23:14

Hi everyone, having a lurk around (sorry the awful pun), and can't help but post shock - £425 for canvas shoes!! I know they're Stella's but still!!!

I will fly fly fly from this thread as I am clearly a philistine! blush

Am loving all your fab links tho.

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 21:24:04

Absolutely grin. Am going with it.

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 21:25:21

Lurking stay! We love a bargain plus excess.

Mrsap Wed 30-Jan-13 21:31:21
Mrsap Wed 30-Jan-13 21:35:37

Oh and thank for the links mominatrix (those shoes are gorgeous) and novice for the bag link which led me to one of my links.

Did spend hours in the hospital waiting room today do may have ordered another 2 pairs of harem trousers in the hush sale. I figured I live mind do much that even if I get bored of them, I could just wear them round the house at £15 a pop.

Mrsap Wed 30-Jan-13 21:38:18

Or should I say "I love mine so much" rather than "live mind do much".

Must not try to type when painting nails.

lurkingaround Wed 30-Jan-13 21:40:27

Thanks Marsha. Bargain city here, tho I love to browse and dream buy! And currently seeking a bargain of a lovely bag, which I can tell you all fairly confidently, does not exist.

Since I de-lurked, i may as well do a bit of show-and-tell, hmm. I bought this coat, (cheaper, from Atterley Road, gone from their website now), DH like it, DC like it.

noviceoftheday Wed 30-Jan-13 21:48:21

Omg! Mrsap that's the exact colour I first fell in love with but I wanted a smaller version, not the giant which is why i have never got round to getting it.

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 21:48:47

Gorgeous stuff Mrsap, all lovely, acne is fabulous and the Balenciaga of course! Good idea on Hush, hope hospital visit wasn't too bad.

Lurking love the coat, so luxe (there's a word, but hey it's better than luxurious sometimes) I'd love a coat with a self-tie belt.

Mominatrix Wed 30-Jan-13 21:51:32

Fantastic choices Mrsap - what gorgeous hues of blue.

I love the coat lurking - very versatile, stylish, and flattering. What kind of bag are you looking for?

I have never heard of Atterley Road - am off to check it out.

Mrsap Wed 30-Jan-13 21:58:58

Lurking that coat is fab. Wish I could wear belted stuff. My figure is a little too er erm athletic. I.e no waist or bum. I end up looking like a sausage that's been tied in the middle, despite the fact that I am not really carrying any excess.

I do love the shoes best. The bag is a little large but would easily be able to fill it with work stuff. Carrying it is another story.

I am trying to find a few bargains but not been lucky so far. My boring routine appointment at hospital took so long because all their IT failed. The joy. That in turn prevented me from getting to TK Maxx and i then spent a small fortune from the waiting room instead.

Think the other patients thought I was unhinged as I kept sighing and then getting my credit card out.

noviceoftheday Wed 30-Jan-13 22:00:16

Lurking that coat is gorgeous.

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 22:01:42

Lol Mrsap. I'm at the hospital tomorrow for something quite routine. The outnet new stuff should keep me pre-occupied for a while.

lurkingaround Wed 30-Jan-13 22:09:22

Thanks for the votes on the coat!
I am currently loving all Prada bags, yes I'm specific(!), tho they are a bit structured for me, and I always like Bottega Veneta, (have an ancient one), something like this one, and I have oh, about a million times, dream bought a Hermes Evelyne bag, a thing of beauty irl, picture doesn't do it justice.

lurking coat is lovely
mrsap really really love the shoes

lurkingaround Wed 30-Jan-13 22:16:09

Beautiful bag Mrsap. Gorgeous.

Mrsap Wed 30-Jan-13 22:20:33

Lurking have you thought about www.theoutnet.com/product/356169 instead of the bottega? It is a bit the same??

I also have my eye on this

www.tkmaxx.com/dresses/yellow-dress/invt/30076505/&bklist=icat,4,shop,001,0395 but then that does mean I need to start thinking spring.

Enjoy your waiting room time marsha! winkwink

shopafrolic Wed 30-Jan-13 22:23:17

Just dropping by to say Atterley Road is a fab site. Great service and delivery / returns too! And no, I don't work for them....

sansucre Wed 30-Jan-13 22:29:22

Marsha If you're in North London, go to Classic Shoe Repairs on Brecknock Road (Camden) as they do repairs/re-soling for Gina, Prada and various others, I rate them far higher than Marios just off Portobello.

MarshaBrady Wed 30-Jan-13 22:36:46

Thanks Sansucre! Am in SE London but can travel grin.

sansucre Wed 30-Jan-13 22:41:35

They're worth it! They've repaired/resoled so many of my shoes over the years.

However, if you're buying from a shop, they should offer to send them to the repairers they use. (I own a sorry pair of white lambskin Robert Clergerie oxfords, and popped into their Wigmore St store the other day and asked if they knew how I could clean/restore them to their original white. The lovely chap offered to send them to their repairer and said that most shoe shops of a particular standard would offer to do all sorts to their shoes.)

Mrsap Wed 30-Jan-13 22:44:27

Thx ladies. all the hoe love means i have ordered them and then was reminded by DH that if I get the bag and then fill it (as I always do) I will soon not be able to wear heels as my back will give up.

Also it is a LOT of money (DH's main motivation for discouraging me, I think he has his eye on purchasing more sailing paraphernalia).

Excited about the shoes tho.

Mrsap Wed 30-Jan-13 22:46:13

Shoe love, not hoe love. Goodness knows what is wrong with my typing tonight.

QueenBOObread Wed 30-Jan-13 23:00:35

Nude pointed flats for Drywhite

lurkingaround Thu 31-Jan-13 09:56:32

Thanks, Mrsap, the Anya from theoutnet is nice, but not keen on the colour. I'm a total fusspot when it comes to bags, but when I do find the right one, I get great wear from it.

Shop My experience with Atterley Road was also very good. And free delivery!

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 09:57:13

Amber which Tibi sweater is it?

Novice how's the dress?

Love the links Mrsap

Not so cold today. Am too early at hospital having coffee. Have been waiting for ages for appointment have a fear of missing it!

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 09:59:16

Me too Lurking am very loyal to the right bag. (That'd be Celine)

Tis this little bad boy Marsha

libertychick Thu 31-Jan-13 11:09:15

Loving all the shoe links. I am having a shoe crisis, suddenly lots of my staples have fallen apart. Thanks for the Aquazurra link mominatrix I had not heard of them before and they are lovely and thanks novice for the R&B links - I think an R&B ballet flat would be a versatile option while I slowly restock my shoe shelf but noting the sizing comments I will visit a store.

There is a fantastic pair of Robert Clergerie flat white oxfords with a silver trim on page 172 of the March Red magazine - I cannot find them online to link.

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 11:29:18

Love that Amber. Roll on Feb! (post tax bill)

Thanks for tip Sansucre, will ask at Lanvin.

Love the sound of those Liberty am all about the white, there must be a way.

Waiting room is full, Internet keeps dropping out. Have let out a few Mrsap stylee sighs grin

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 11:52:34

A way to keep clean that is...

I've already ordered it Marsha!

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 12:30:03

Excellent! Feel it's going to be a good Feb grin

QueenBOObread Thu 31-Jan-13 13:42:12

The lobster is way cool. I like the red version too.

For Atterley Road fans, there is £25 off a £50 spend on full price items with the code 'OCADO'. Ends tonight.

shopafrolic Thu 31-Jan-13 13:47:36

QueenBOObread Thu 31-Jan-13 13:50:55

For Amber AR have a Petit Bateau breton for £50 - so £25 with the OCADO discount.

QueenBOObread Thu 31-Jan-13 13:52:33

Ooh well done Shop, that's bargainous.

Inspired by the anti-Breton rage the other day I have now bought a new red breton AND a flippy Breton skirt from good old Agnes B.

<Sticks two fingers up to the Breton haterz>.

noviceoftheday Thu 31-Jan-13 15:43:25

Hi Marsha, I hope your appointment went okay.

I tried the dvf dress on yesterday and don't know whether its because I was ill/bloated it didn't suit me. I am going to try on one more time before it goes back tomorrow. The lkb version looks classy on me, whereas for more money £248, it was less forgiving and not as attractive. Hhmm. Think it's going back having said all that!

however, I don't care one bit because I bought the balenciaga bag grin big thank you to Mrsap. Now if you could just let me have your address, I believe dh might want a quiet word with you gringringrin

QueenBOObread Thu 31-Jan-13 16:04:55

That bag is bloody gorgeous novice.

envy envy envy

Mrsap Thu 31-Jan-13 16:22:13

Wow! I love that so much but having tried it on again today I have realised it is way too big. My back can't cope, it is so crap at the moment.

Still I feel happy in the knowledge that it's gone to a good home.

I did feel DH look a bit too happy when I decided. I suspect tho that this thread may have a lot of DHs shaking their heads in disbelief!

Amber, love that top. There is a spread on Tibi founder in grazia (can u tell i've spent a fair amount of time in waiting rooms this week) and her house looks v lovely too.

noviceoftheday Thu 31-Jan-13 16:26:08

Thanks Queen! I haven't bought any Breton tops thoughgrin the top half of my torso is quite short so would cut me off in a v unattractive way.i am envious of those who can properly carry it off.

pickledsiblings Thu 31-Jan-13 16:31:34

That is some bag novice.

noviceoftheday Thu 31-Jan-13 16:34:58

Thats such a shame. Well it might all be a damp squib for me too if its too big for me too. I was there with a measuring tap and compared it to my Mulberry Bayswater. I think it's slightly shorter both width and length but its the depth I am slightly worried about. But it's the colour and style I love so I have fingers crossed. In the meanwhile, I am v excited!

Dh is always pleased when I return to work from illness hmm - He did a rubbish job of hiding his pleasure when I returned to work full time a few months ago.grin

Hi all....back from wk......what are you all wearing today then?

novice gorgeous bag......problem is downsizing now that we're all used to lugging around huge bags will be tough!(having said that I always manage on holiday....oddconfused)

Mrsap Thu 31-Jan-13 17:51:14

Dry white, because on holiday u empty it out and then start afresh. In RL you just keep throwing things in.

I saw a gorgeous coloured marc Jacobs bag in my hunt for a sensible sized bag.

Am trying to find somewhere I can see it in the flesh. Not even sure if it is available still.

cdnb.lystit.com/photos/2012/06/26/marc-by-marc-jacobs-meteorite-blue-classic-q-baby-groovee-leather-satchel-product-2-4012960-168552494_large_flex.jpeg

noviceoftheday Thu 31-Jan-13 18:07:21

That's gorgeous Mrsap. <nope not buying this one!grin> I have a solution for you......more handbags!

I try and use 2 handbags during the week, i dont always suceed but i alwaysI use my changing bag during the weekend and I use a different (non-mum!) bag if dh and i go out on a Friday night. Using 4 bags during the week stops crap building up!

Mrsap Thu 31-Jan-13 18:13:02

U c that is where I am rubbish. Other than nights out, I just have one (or three) good bags that I wear to death and then replace when they give up.

I am thinking maybe do as u and my sister does. Diff bag everyday. Don't think I am organised enough tho!

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 18:17:56

I'm bad too, I just get a bag and use it until the end of it's time. I'll probably replace the Céline soon. I have a big duck egg leonello borghi one from Liberty that I rarely use anymore as it's so heavy.

Well done on the Bretons QueenBoo and Shop!

Novice gorgeous, lovely bag. What a colour! Love it.

noviceoftheday Thu 31-Jan-13 18:30:19

A good thing but my liking of bold coloured bags is that they don't go with every outfit so it forces me to change. If I get stressed at work then I don't have time so then i tend to simplify by choosing the outfits to go with the same accessories all week. For various reasons, I have drifted to being quite a dull/conservative dresser during my 30s so good accessories are v important to me! I am inspired though by all the interesting clothes everyone else is posting on the thread. I am going to try and be less conservative this year!

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 18:41:09

I wish I could swap around more, definitely. I'd probably just go with lots of different colours of one type. Ahem such is love.

I have a blue bag gap, I love this one
www.smythson.com/women/handbags-1/mini-tote-10.htmlyummy
But won't get it sad

I swap bags a lot but don't always completely empty them (bought a VIP bag liner once but it got sooo heavy I binned it!) so I'm always loosing things (lipstick generally) but occasionally find cash which is great!!!

Yep, serial bag swapper here too, though have been fiercely loyal to Rocco lately. Argh, left my iPhone at my parents' house and am now stuck with this stupid Samsung until I pick it up tomorrow. Still nap and me&em orders have dispatched.

noviceoftheday Thu 31-Jan-13 19:51:56

Drywhite, good taste, Smythsons make such beautiful bags. smile

Mrsap Thu 31-Jan-13 19:55:56

Hhhmm smythson. I might have to look at their site a bit more. i like the term 'blue bag gap".

The only thing I have from smythson is a notebook and it is so gorgeous I haven't started using it yet.....which is unlike me, I rarely save anything for best.

I love this one too
squidgy
But out of my price range really, just dreaming! Smythson are classy bags (not it bags are they?)

Mrsap Thu 31-Jan-13 20:19:37

You're right they r nice but a bit too groomed and classy for me. I am just not that tidy looking if that makes sense?

The search continues......

blondassassin Thu 31-Jan-13 20:32:46

Loving all the bag links. I'm now at the smaller bag stage and think Marsha's Celine is my ideal. I fancy bright green or orange (think orange is what you have Marsha?). Do still need to be able to chuck it on the ground at the play park/beach etc so might be better to get something sturdier for now.

Shop I am also eyeing a Zatchel saddle bag in the bright green. Did you go for the large size, and how is the leather?

blondassassin Thu 31-Jan-13 20:36:00

Oh meant to add thanks Shop for the Atterley Rd heads up. Ordered Maison Scotch slim chinos, the nude silk blouse someone linked to and the cream knit all with an extra 10% off sale price - hope they're good.

20% extra off Donna Ida sale too, so have stocked up on some basic tees, Splendid, Zoe Karssen in nice colours for spring. Some v good bargains on jeans too, James Twiggys, Goldsign, J Brand. Worth a look.

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 20:38:22

Yy orange. But would love the same again in raspberry.

So far have only seen yellow and white in Selfridges.

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 20:39:43

Could sales shopping Blonde! Going to have a look.

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 20:40:14

Good...

Mrsap Thu 31-Jan-13 20:44:59

Anyone made a purchase off these people?

www.vestiairecollective.com/

noviceoftheday Thu 31-Jan-13 20:46:41

Drywhite, thats what I love about smythsons, the fact that They're not it bags. just beautiful.smile

shopafrolic Thu 31-Jan-13 20:49:42

I ordered the small Zatchel which is big enough for me. The leather is hard, and there are no bells and whistles e.g. Pretty hardware or internal pockets but it is perfect for what I wanted which was a day to day, sling cross body and still have change bag with me type bag!! And it won't sag or mold to me which is a good thing i think. The cream is more stoney than yellowy but I like that, and the buckle does up under the bag rather than on the front IYSWIM. It's a good, day to day hard worker, I'll use the Gracie when I'm without DS or on night's out and then my Mulberry's, Coach etc when out and about daytimes sans DS.
Glad you had some success on Atterley Road site. I didn't realise that Dona Ida did Splendid so will take a quick look.

Mominatrix Thu 31-Jan-13 20:58:36

novice, that bag is gorgeous!

I have a small selection of bags which I rotate very slowly. I have a purse organiser which I place in the bag, and all my detritus goes into the purse organizer. To change bags, I simply pull out the organizer and put into the other bag. Makes switching a breeze.

Marsha, I've been very tempted by the Celine box bag. I even prefer it to the Hermes Constance (never been able to get over the big "H" in the front). I should have purchased one when I initially wanted it because now they are about a grand more! I do have a boogie bag from ages ago in the most lush chocolate brown. I have not used it in 6 years though, so probably should just let it go. I can't though - I always think that I just might use it in the future!

Love the Lobster jumper Amber. Now I want one!

Off to check out the Donna Ida sale - thanks for the heads ups on the extra 20%!

shopafrolic Thu 31-Jan-13 21:10:59

Any guesses what this is made of or am I missing the detail?

Argh how annoying, no material info. Still amazing price!

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 21:23:18

I'd be tempted to get it, before it sells out.

shopafrolic Thu 31-Jan-13 21:23:54

Half tempted to order it and see....... Although technically I'm not supposed to wear black since I had my colours done......

blondassassin Thu 31-Jan-13 21:25:12

I want a lobster jumper like Amber's too! Can't do grey though....

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 21:26:06

Such a bargain Shop, plus another 20% off...

blondassassin Thu 31-Jan-13 21:28:11

Hmm just googled it Shop but still none the wiser! Wonder if it's silk? Although still a bargain if it turns out to be nice polyester wink Order and see I reckon

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 21:29:41

Be great if it was silk.

noviceoftheday Thu 31-Jan-13 21:30:57

It's beautiful. I would get it Shop.wink

shopafrolic Thu 31-Jan-13 21:34:07

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 21:39:24

Good one Shop!

Annianni Thu 31-Jan-13 21:43:01

Oh dear... just accidentally spent £180 on 4 pairs of jeans from Donna Ida.

That blue Balenciaga is beautiful.

shopafrolic Thu 31-Jan-13 21:44:56

Not sure why the page address says it's a VB crossover blouse either??? It's showing as out of stock now! Have you all ordered one? grin

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 21:46:58

Did you get it??

Which jeans Anni, sounds good

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 21:47:20

I didn't but things go REALLY quickly when linked grin

shopafrolic Thu 31-Jan-13 21:51:38

Order conf says I got it. All 3 for under £60 including delivery! DH back tomorrow so that is my last splurge for a while. Thanks again Blond and as always ladies for your purchasing encouragement!!

Annianni Thu 31-Jan-13 22:07:43

I can't link as I'm on ds1's nexus and I can barely use the damn thing.

But i've ordered some James twiggy, Nobody skinny, Goldsign cropped and Hudson bootcut... But baby bootcut... I'll try anything once grin

noviceoftheday Thu 31-Jan-13 22:14:29

Shop, Marsha that's vey funny! Not me buying this time! i am trying to book a Valentine meal with dh so distracted by that.

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 22:19:42

I know! I feel I must get something. So went for Nobody cord skinny in black. £185 to £38, not bad!

Just checked again, selling out fast.

shopafrolic Thu 31-Jan-13 22:24:47

Bargains all round - love it!

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 22:25:37

noviceoftheday Thu 31-Jan-13 22:29:43

Oh no, dh isn't here! He's away this week which is why I have been busy on mumsnet and spent money like the end of the world is almost here.grin

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 22:32:09

Haha at least you have an excuse. I should really speak to mine then grin. I just had to get a bargain, was driving me nuts!

shopafrolic Thu 31-Jan-13 22:35:13

Glad it's not just me who shops when DH is away......

Mrsap Thu 31-Jan-13 22:38:48

I sense a theme here. My DH been away most of the week.

Although so far I've only managed a beautiful pair of blue heels and (more) harem trousers. Poor show on my part compared to some of you.

libertychick Thu 31-Jan-13 22:46:21

Inspired by you all I just spent a frantic 20 mins on DonnaIda filling a basket and then decided to step away! I have spent enough this month - and I need shoes not more jeans and jumpers. There should be a halo emoticon. my DH is here though

shopafrolic Thu 31-Jan-13 22:49:40

Well done Liberty at last you have some restraint unlike me!! Put in a formal request to the MN techies for the halo emoticon. Not that I'll ever get to use it grin
DH away, inlaws staying the night, MIL in next room is snoring sooooooo loudly!!! Can't put earplugs in as won't hear DS. No sleep for me tonight.

shopafrolic Thu 31-Jan-13 22:57:05

LEAST not last!!!! Bloomin iPad! That sounded rude and so wasn't meant too!

MarshaBrady Thu 31-Jan-13 23:00:15

Lol shop!

Hope you get some sleep.

Liberty am impressed, I probably need jeans the least, dammit,

Mrsap you did well this week!

libertychick Thu 31-Jan-13 23:05:23

Sigh - I have just lost my halo! Back to DonnaIda for one last look and bought a crumpet cardi - but at £32 for a cashmere cardi it would be insane not to right???

Shop you were spot on with the 'last'! I thought it was hilarious grin

libertychick Thu 31-Jan-13 23:21:57

Have quickly got up to date - this thread is moving at breakneck speed!

Novice that Balenciaga is totally gorgeous. Hope you love it when it arrives
Blonde delighted you bought the silk shirt - it's so classy
AnniAnni I would have gone for the Hudson baby bootcuts too but unfortunately they were gone in my size
Marsha really like all your white stilleto links - I can't do high heels but thinking about something like these in white instead.

blondassassin Fri 01-Feb-13 07:25:16

Liberty grin I'm resigned to never getting a halo where shopping's concerned.

DH here but have had my order shipped to my mum's house round the corner wink <naughty>

blondassassin Fri 01-Feb-13 07:32:25

Ah it was you who found the shirt Liberty, thanks! Am worried it may be a bit classic for me but am hoping to make it work with my leather leggings a la Hopefully!

Loving the frenzied Donna Ida shopping grin

Annianni Fri 01-Feb-13 07:42:27

I had to get my order in as dh is off work the week after next and any deliveries would get the response...

libertychick Fri 01-Feb-13 11:02:01

Great jeans shopping Annianni. I really want some baby bootcuts...

I frequently get stuff delivered to work, run down to the local H&M at lunchtime to try it on and then straight to the post office if it has to go back. Lots of boxes arriving just stresses DH out! He hasn't a leg to stand on though - he shops all day but justifies it on the basis that all his recent purchases (stereo, amps, sub woofers, new PC etc) are for the 'household' - as if I'd notice what difference a sub-woofer makes!

Pseudonymity Fri 01-Feb-13 11:18:18

Hi again, & hi Marsha! these are the Lanvin gold flats on NAP. They are so elegant. I have a wishlist as long as my arm for spring/summer but definitely a good pair of flats, some elegant low heels, possibly in white, and some bright earrings - Tom Binns-a-likes hopefully.

I'm loving the blue bag vibe. I love this from Smythson. I don't have any expensive bags, one very old Mulberry that I never use.

Definitely also want some cropped jeans for the summer, want to channel Audrey grin I am not a big jeans wearer, unlike many on the thread. Unfortunately I am the wrong shape for jeans - my only jeans are a couple of pairs of Levis bold curve skinnies, urgh. I actually have a nice figure, v. small waist and wear a 10 in most clothes but I'm more Kim Kardashian than Audrey, much to my disappointment.

Mrsap Fri 01-Feb-13 11:20:01

Loving the baby boot cuts. I need done non skinnies in my life too.

Funny, my DH really doesn't mind what I buy in the way of clothes he just doesn't understand it at all as he just sees clothes as 'a covering'. My FIL is the same (my MIL has an amazing wardrobe envy).

Mind you they both spend loads on boat and cycling stuff (£500 for a headtorch?!blushblush) so guess it all evens out.

QueenCadbury Fri 01-Feb-13 11:33:42

liberty I'm loving your shopping style. I can't order anything at the moment as we're trying to save to do stuff to the house so dh has banned online purchases. Tis a pain as now I have to shop with toddler in tow, hide stuff in my wardrobe and pretend I've had it for ages grin

I've just bought a cheap pearl necklace as I've been inspired by a couple of Pinterest images. Would love a set of real pearls for my birthday but thought I should just try cheapo ones to make sure I don't look like an old lady. Anyone else wear pearls?

Loving the bag purchases from everyone. I'm really lazy and just use 1 bag as I can't be bothered to transfer all the toddler paraphernalia from bag to bag.

MarshaBrady Fri 01-Feb-13 11:39:01

Hey Pseud they are gorgeous. Love your ideas, especially the white! grin

I also would like some MiH Paris in off-white. The 'off' part being very important to me of course.

Funny what you are all saying, Liberty dh is analogue sound system things (deep bass yada) and yes Mrsap bikes, the nicest frame, gets cleaned regularly. He loves these things like I love clothes so he doesn't have a leg to stand on! Actually he always says oh get it, and that's nothing get it. It has a great effect as I often think hmmm it's quite a lot and then I don't (sometimes).

QueenCadbury I'm not sure I can do pearls. But for the right style definitely.

QueenCadbury Fri 01-Feb-13 11:44:23

marsha I'm not sure I can either but I'll give it a go!

What is it with men and bikes? Mine has 3 already and would love a 4th!

libertychick Fri 01-Feb-13 12:12:23

QueenCadbury did you say on another thread that you are 40 this year too? I hit the big milestone in July and am debating what I should get for it. I had some cheap imitation pearls a couple of years ago and wore them to death - getting the right shade for your skin tone is quite important I think. Dona was experimenting with them too and wore hers with a denim shirt which I imagine would look good.

MarshaBrady Fri 01-Feb-13 12:18:53

Dona's style was great for pearls, it can be fresh and very stylish. <come back Dona!>

MarshaBrady Fri 01-Feb-13 12:21:35

As your style would be too of course! I really like the more dramatic ones. I saw some Lanvin ones at one point that were nice. I think Popcornia? was it liked them too. On an earlier vogue.

libertychick Fri 01-Feb-13 12:33:33

Funnily enough I only found they worked on me in summer wearing floral skirts with plain tshirts or tailored trousers with a shirt. It may have been the colours or the fact I had a bit of a tan. My winter work wear look tends to be a lot of black and grey - they didn't work with the shades of grey I wore and did work with black but made me look a bit Margaret Thatcher! I quite like ropes of them a la Coco Chanel - was it Dona who said that Chanel always said you should wear fake pearls as wearing too many real ones is too much? Or that might have been Lucia VP in the 'Things I wish my mother had taught me' book...I have all these random facts in my head but poor recollection of the source!

It's exactly this type of discussion where we miss you Dona smile

MarshaBrady Fri 01-Feb-13 13:35:20

That sounds nice Liberty. I'm sure I could find a way to wear them, but I'd have to put some work into searching which ones would be best.

QueenCadbury Fri 01-Feb-13 14:31:37

Yes liberty I'm 40 in November. Not sure exactly what I want yet but I have given it a great deal of thought. I had thought that I'd wanted a mulberry or similar as I fell in love with last years alexa in grey but I've got another 2 and a half years doing the toddler group thing and quite frankly I'd be worried it'd get ruined or pinched. For as long as I can remember I've wanted a 2.55 but that's not going to happen until my 60th when the kids are grown up! I'd like to investigate those r&b bags irl though. Other than that I'd like my colours done as at the moment I've only self diagnosed. I can pretty much work out what suits me but I'm not very good at putting colours together without a neutral. I'd also love a rose gold watch although haven't tried any on yet so may not suit my skin tone. And then the pearls possibly. Oh, maybe a silver cuff too.

Would love to do pearls with denim shirt but collars and shirts just don't suit me. I'd love some kind of denim collarless blouse! Will get back you all about whether I look MT, granny, bridal or just fantastically cool grin

Mrsap Fri 01-Feb-13 14:45:53

I love my pearls. The don't go with everything as they can make some stuff look a bit mrs thatcher but if the rest of your outfit is young ish looking then it works.....well I am not sure but I have based that on the number of comments I do (or don't) get.

I agree with trying lots on to get the right colour, size of actual pearls...and length. I can't do long as they just look wrong.

I am another one who can't do shirts with collars or breast pockets. Makes my shoulders and boobs look enormous and not in a good way.

Have a houseful of guests this weekend and a 3 yr old party to cater. Feeling exhausted just thinking about it.

Have a good one all.

MarshaBrady Fri 01-Feb-13 17:34:14

QueenCadbury love your planning for your 40th.

Mrsap happy 3rd birthday to your ds/dd. Good luck!

Shop look Aubin & Wills sample sale in Shoreditch tomorrow.

Queen love pearls (I'm an 80s woman at heart!!) wear pearl studs almost every day. My string less often....only when trying to look grown up/sophisticated and as others have said, with the right outfit. I love the Chanel pile them high look but I don't have the guts!!!!

Anni those jeans are incredible bargains. Like you pseud I don't feel awfully relaxed in jeans (similar figure, petite with bum...dresses suit me better).

shopafrolic Fri 01-Feb-13 19:21:36

Thanks Marsha! Shame, DH only just back and jet lagged so can't abandon him and DS. Are you going?

MarshaBrady Fri 01-Feb-13 19:29:59

Shop I'm not sure yet. I'd really like to, but it was on today too and I bet there is hardly anything left.

The last time I went to a sample sale in Shoreditch, for SCP or Viaduct (can't remember, but one of those design places) there were queues down the street and it was disappointing.

I'm not sure if I will, but if I do will report from scene, haha.

noviceoftheday Fri 01-Feb-13 19:59:42

Marsha That is so why the online shopping is the way forward!!!

MarshaBrady Fri 01-Feb-13 20:19:13

It's true!

shopafrolic Fri 01-Feb-13 21:00:13

Someone's posted on S&B about going to the sample sale today. Cheap bargains if you're the right size it seems.....

libertychick Fri 01-Feb-13 21:11:57

I have debated going in to the A&W sale too but suspect it probably isn't worth the effort. And DD ha a horrible cold so I would feel guilty abandoning her.

QueenCadbury I haven't started thinking in detail yet about what I want for my 40th - I am planning a general wardrobe upgrade this year and think I've made a good start in the January sales. I would like jewellery, but unclear what I want - need to start shopping around. I like the idea of diamond earrings but haven't worn earrings in about 10 years. I plan to get my colours done too - maybe in March. I am torn between getting something that's a keeper item v's getting something lovely for everyday use and accepting it will be a limited timespan.

libertychick Fri 01-Feb-13 21:12:15

'has'

noviceoftheday Fri 01-Feb-13 21:40:40

Hi liberty! snap, i am also 40 this year.smile I made the decision a few years ago not to keep diamonds away for best. Life's too short and they're there to be enjoyed! I wear them all the time.

QueenBOObread Fri 01-Feb-13 23:07:22

On jewellery: I idly obsess about finding a cocktail ring. Could be a good 40th?

I love the crisply cut Tiffany sparklers but can't stretch to that ££ as a treat for myself <hint hints to DH for next birthday/anniversary etc> and also like the traditional opulence of this Lanvin. If it were my 40th coming up, I'd love to go to Grey's Antiques and have a look at the original Victorian or 50s pieces. I bet they have some lovely stuff

<dreams about cocktail rings, cocktail dresses, cocktail parties and plain old cocktails...>

QueenBOObread Fri 01-Feb-13 23:12:04

Quick purchase to report today: this tapestry skirt.

On the downside: it's going to be everywhere and will be recognisable from a distance, but it cost £29.99 and instantly appealed so I won't sweat it. Need to maximise wear now though - it looks great with black opaques and black top, which I won't feel much like wearing after February.

<changes out of pyjamas to optimise CPW>

QueenBOObread Fri 01-Feb-13 23:13:52

Link fail.

Zara tapestry skirt

noviceoftheday Fri 01-Feb-13 23:34:03

The skirt is very pretty though I sooo wouldn't look good in itgrin

Cocktail rings have become my big jewellery thing over the last couple of years. I owe pieces very similar to the two you linked. I mix between cheap, Swarovski and diamond cocktail rings and swap each day like my bagssmile that would definitely be great present!

noviceoftheday Fri 01-Feb-13 23:34:05

shopafrolic Sat 02-Feb-13 08:05:47

I turned 40 in Nov and got my Michael Kors rose gold watch which is on my AW Pin board from my friends. I love it. DH got me my iPad and a day out shopping with a stylist which was wonderful.
I also enjoy a good cocktail ring but all mine are Swarovski as I can't afford the real thing! Love the tapestry skirt. You must have great legs! [Envy]

MarshaBrady Sat 02-Feb-13 10:58:20

QueenBoo love that skirt. I love the opulence of Lanvin atm. And the dreaming of cocktail parties, my favourite thing.

Decided not to go to Aubin & Wills sample sale, going to something cultural with family instead, gallery and probably lunch.

QueenBOObread Sat 02-Feb-13 11:15:10

I've been to A&W very recently in Covent Garden and it was already jumblesale-esque. Picked up the black chinos and ran; I don't think I'd cope with a full-on sample sale... My elbows aren't pointy enough.

Was just inspired by DMBL40's post on brogues <baa>. I hadn't considered them in a nude shade before but I see they'd be easier to wear - less clumptastic. So I picked up these from Grenson which I thought worth a go given the discount. New territory for me though.

Shop thanks for the tip about Swarovski; there are some very Tiffany-esque rings on there aren't there. There's a shop on Kings Road isn't there? May have to take a look. I go to one or two black tie events a year so I can't say I need the real thing! But I can dream.

shopafrolic Sat 02-Feb-13 13:14:14

Not sure about location of London stores QueenBoo but I go to one in St A and one in Milton Keynes. I have one of their Chic rings (the large not the mini) in clear and white stones. It's a few years old now but I love it. Agree the real thing would be lovely.....

libertychick Sat 02-Feb-13 14:19:03

Great, lots of '73 babies on the thread! Thanks for all the fantastic ideas for 40th gift some diamonds and a cocktail ring could be the thing! I love that you wear diamonds every day novice and indeed why not! I don't even wear my engagement ring - it doesn't work with my wedding ring which is similiar to this one the nine carat gold version so I have been meaning for ages to get it adjusted to wear on a different finger.

QueenBooBread a browse around Grey's Antiques is a fab idea. Love the tapestry skirt.

Annianni Sat 02-Feb-13 16:03:29

I've got that ring QueenBoo in the citrine and I love it.
I've pinned it, i'll do a link later.

It's ds1's 9th birthday today, the party's just finished without any injuries thank god

I was 40 in October and I got a wonderful child free shopping trip with dh's bank card, it was bliss.

My favourite pressie though, was some silver studs from JL that look similar to the Tiffany, Elsa Peretti diamonds by the yard ones that I love and can get when the mortgage is paid off grin

Ooooh Queen those brogues are lovely.
I ordered
These
But they weren't nice .

Try again
these

Re 40th presents, my advice is be specific. My DH wanted to surprise me....thought diamond studs boring sad I secretly lusted after a Cartier tank, I got something almost exactly like this:
brooch
Which is lovely but I've hardly worn it......like pearls it can look a bit matronly and would feel a bit ott at work.

I've told DH to get me a Chanel boy bag or a YSL cabas chyc for my 30th. Let's see if he listens...

Have just bought a neon yellow t-shirt from 2nd Day. The colour looked so fresh. Thought it will look nice with pale grey skinnies.

Forgot to mention my orders arrived and it's all staying. Tibi sweater as fab as I'd hoped - wearing now! Me&Em scoop neck ruched dress also great, and DH has deemed not too sexy for work (though as we work together he's not the most objective) and the Grecian top v nice too.

Things I saw today and LOVE:

this

and this

noviceoftheday Sat 02-Feb-13 19:04:28

Ooh that sounds terrific Amber. Have you got a link to the grecian top?

I passed through Marks and Spencers today. I had a look around and just kept thinking why do the clothes never look as good as on the ads??!! Oh and why is a size 8 rarer than hen's teeth?!!

MarshaBrady Sat 02-Feb-13 19:04:37

Love those Amber. Matches is always great at the beginning of a season. Love it.

QueenCadbury Sat 02-Feb-13 19:43:21

Ooh amber that balenciaga bag is divine.

Hopefully Sat 02-Feb-13 20:01:09

Hello everyone! Haven't had 3 seconds to hang out here for months, but off to catch up on links now.

Hopefully Sat 02-Feb-13 20:05:08

Amber love the balenciaga. Which reminds me, need to phone AH about my maxi zip satchel, have only had it 5 months and strap clip broken. Boo.

Really rate Me&Em stuff, love their jersey. Currently wondering how wrong a 3rd ruched cap sleeved dress would be...

shopafrolic Sat 02-Feb-13 20:15:46

Good buys Amber, did you get the Tibi sweater or the sweatshirt that you've been linking too? Saw a sweater the other day in red with the lobster which I quite liked....
Love the crochet knit and the sound of neon. I'm craving colour now and a bit p#ssed off at being an Autumn. Am starting to think I may disregard a lot of it!! I'm missing black as a base colour too much and when she held the swatch against me she even said it wasn't too bad a colour on me even though I'm an Autumn. Brown does look better but it is SO DULL. And for spring summer I'll be in cream, peacock and red I think!! And yet I love greys and neons. I'm jealous!! Quiet day today, DH recovering from jet lag and me from my stinking cold. Donna Ida order has despatched so will report back on top!

shopafrolic Sat 02-Feb-13 20:17:19

Waves at Hopefully! Nice to see you back blogging! Funny that you've come back just as I start moaning about colours. Sorry! Feeling disenchanted about what to wear for SS! X

shopafrolic Sat 02-Feb-13 20:17:56

Plus I guess Autumns can't do monochrome. Rant over!

MarshaBrady Sat 02-Feb-13 20:21:05

I love greys, neons and monochrome Shop, not sure on my colours but am going with it!

Love that dress on hopefully's blog. The orange one. Malene Birger I think.

MarshaBrady Sat 02-Feb-13 20:23:57

Might have to give it a whirl this summer. orange M Birger.

noviceoftheday Sat 02-Feb-13 20:34:13

Amber that top is gorgeous! Marsha, I agree that dress is also gorgeous. smile So many lovely things on this thread. Dab grin

MarshaBrady Sat 02-Feb-13 20:36:58

Novice how's the Balenciaga? has your dh seen it yet grin

MarshaBrady Sat 02-Feb-13 20:44:18

And I would really love this Vanessa Bruno. Love a good waffle knit.

Drywhite meant to say that is a lovely brooch but can see what you mean about being specific! grin

Hopefully Sat 02-Feb-13 20:49:58

shop if you are feeling disenchanted maybe try hunting down some warm greys. Intend to do neon orange if I fancy a neon pop. Yellow would be better than pink though. Step away from the black if you possibly can - adding it will make putting outfits together so unnecessarily difficult!

Hopefully Sat 02-Feb-13 20:52:17

Marsha I am feeling church-mouse-poor at the moment, but really hope I can order the malene birger before it sells out. Am also still lusting after this one too.

MarshaBrady Sat 02-Feb-13 20:53:47

Love that too Hopefully. I won't get the Birger yet either, better not sell out.

libertychick Sat 02-Feb-13 21:00:34

Great dresses Hopefully and love the Velvet crochet jumper Amber (and the bag but trying to ignore bags at the moment - too distracting)

Drywhite DH will be told EXACTLY what I want! Luckily he prefers it that way.

Shop sympathies on the black! I think I have been subconsciously putting off getting my colours done in case I'm told black doesn't suit me - I would probably have to lie in a darkened room for a week to cope with the shock.

Hopefully Sat 02-Feb-13 21:04:18

I love not having black. <weirdo>. I occasionally lament grey a bit though...

MarshaBrady Sat 02-Feb-13 21:07:24

I have black and have blonde hair (ie probably off the cards). But I do love it every now and again.

libertychick Sat 02-Feb-13 21:09:58

I think not wearing black makes people much more interesting - I sometimes look around at work especially at meetings and the women who are not wearing black stand out in a good way. The shock for me though would be the loss of a 'uniform' and the cost of restocking my wardrobe - that said I am determined to bite the bullet and get it done.

shopafrolic Sat 02-Feb-13 21:10:49

Thanks Hopefully. Good tips! Especially re: neon and grey. And I hadn't thought about the matching issue with black.... Funnily enough I picked up a neon orange belt last summer so might hunt that down first...
And YY to the discussions about specific instructions for DH. Although I was lucky enough to get some diamond earrings chosen by him on our wedding day. That's the only jewellery he's ever been brave enough to choose without me - I am very picky though!

shopafrolic Sat 02-Feb-13 21:12:31

Are you and Autumn Hopefully? What colours will you be wearing this Spring?

shopafrolic Sat 02-Feb-13 21:15:51

In other news....Carine Roitfield is Harper's new global fashion director. Swoon. This March issue is enormous! Lots of lovely things.

Funny this....I'm on a black ban too. Sick to death of it.....
Btw ladies I popped into R and B today and stroked those ballerinas i linked the other day for a bit, really they are lovely and the chain strap matching bag is divine! Bother. Now I'm going to try to be really good this month.......I actually need them in my wardrobe.

MarshaBrady Sat 02-Feb-13 21:24:52

I don't have much. A Wang knit and a Lanvin dress, oh and a Ce Me one.

Am interested in the black cord skinnies coming from Donna Ida, might be a bit too much now.

Agree that black is hard. Can look drab next to colour or make colour look cheap. I really only wear black with navy, grey or cobalt. Love head to tow black, in a variety of textures, lucky it works on me.

I need that silver Balenciaga. eBay time.

for Hopefully

Marsha Matches was amazing, plus my friend is the area manager, so good excuse for a natter and browse through the look book. Some lovely cashmere in Question Air and some gorgeous Equipment shirts in Trilogy.

Also went to local dress agency today and picked up this which I admired at the time, but was still fat after DD. Will be good with burgundy Kors heels for work. Some lovely stuff in there Marni, Stella, Prada, Lanvin to name a few!

MarshaBrady Sat 02-Feb-13 21:28:16

Lovely dress Amber. Lucky friend! Assuming there are discounts. The Marylebone one has so many assistants in it, all wearing lovely stuff. I always feel slightly dizzy when I go in, probably the combination of the music and such nice stuff.

40% marsha though not sale stuff.

Hopefully Sat 02-Feb-13 23:10:46

Swoon at neon loubs amber.

Shop I will be wearing orange (quite a lot, I think, especially since I have just found the perfect neon orange lipstick), will be toning it down by adding dark olive (blazer for work), or khaki (jeans), or possibly lizard grey. Am also liking the idea of lizard grey with lime. I will also probably do the (inevitable) summer nautical look in red/cream if I bother with it. I normally turn to coral quite a lot in summer too, and oyster. Pretty for summer dresses/linen etc.

Hopefully Sat 02-Feb-13 23:13:46

I now have a slight mental image of myself in orange dress, orange lippy and orange louboutins. Ahem.

shopafrolic Sun 03-Feb-13 07:44:16

Thanks Hopefully. Am already there with the red / cream nautical so starting to find my way then. I haven't tried any of my yellows / lime or oranges so I think I need to be braver having got AW sorted! Loving your blog by the way! Glad you're back!

noviceoftheday Sun 03-Feb-13 07:45:52

Hi Amber, my Balenciaga hasn't arrived yet. I am surprised as Browns sent me the dispatch email on Thursday afternoon. I casually told dh yesterday (while he was quite jet lagged) how much I spent in the 4 days he was away and I was home sick grin

Shop and QueenBoo, a tip for you....unless its a fashion emergency and I can't find accessories to match, I only tend to shop in Swaroski 2 months of the year - Jan and June because their discounts tend to be very good, especially towards the end of those months. I plan ahead and get stuff for myself and presents for others with the 50% off.

With most of my friends and I hitting the big 4-0 this "academic year", I have been trying to mark the occasion with personalised gifts. I have discovered www.etsy.com and there are some nice things on there that I might get for upcoming birthdays.

On the black thing, I have consciously trying to avoid getting black tops and dresses over the last couple of years. I still wear dark colours at work though as I think that looks more professional, hence my obsession with statement accessories. I am more colourful with weekend day wear casual, or holiday clothes but could still do with more colours. I might look at more desigual for ss13.

noviceoftheday Sun 03-Feb-13 07:59:37

Shop, more orange for you.... I bought this trench in Banana Republic last month about 2 days before the snow hit so haven't worn it but looking forward to it. The excellent sales assistant persuaded me to get it rather than stay in the comfort zone of a darker colour. bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=236175&locale=en_US&kwid=1&sem=false&sdReferer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fsearch%3Fclient%3Dms-rim%26hl%3Den%26q%3Dorange%2520trench%2520banana%2520republic%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26channel%3Dbrowser

noviceoftheday Sun 03-Feb-13 08:01:57

Damn! I meant orange trench

novice I saw your Marcie in Matches yesterday - not my colour but wow, she is gorgeous!

Urgh, I hate MN sometimes. I posted on the bargain thread to offer advice on cheap nail polish and a few posts down there is a bitchy comment basically aimed at me/this thread. I don't slag anyone off based on their budget and wouldn't dream of it, why is it ok in reverse?

shopafrolic Sun 03-Feb-13 08:15:58

Thanks for the Swarovski tip Novice although I musn't buy anymore costume jewellery now that my social life has dwindled to nothing post DS!

noviceoftheday Sun 03-Feb-13 08:21:34

Hi Amber, I saw that comment. Ignore, ignore, ignore. I am thoroughly enjoying this thread and other than the bitchy comment, am enjoying the other thread too (I hope they do more links on that one). I haven't found any competitiveness on this thread and I am glad everyone is posting ideas as its definitely inspiring me for Spring to get out out of my non-work wardrobe comfort zone.

I haven't posted on that thread as I don't have anything to contribute yet however as well as being on this thread, I am on the "What's good in Primark" thread. The two ends of the shopping spectrum are not mutually exclusive or if they are someone forgot to tell me the rules hmm

noviceoftheday Sun 03-Feb-13 08:26:37

I forgot to add, I could be very very tempted by that Marcie in the tan. Its a bad habit of mine...I get a new bag and always end up buying it in different colours. Its how I end up with new comfort zones grin

MarshaBrady Sun 03-Feb-13 08:39:54

God it's tiresome Amber. No competition on this thread just nice stuff to look at, links from anywhere. I really don't care where people shop, don't see why it matters.

Sounds good Novice!

shopafrolic Sun 03-Feb-13 08:39:59

Ignore Amber. That thread is great and YY to more links, and you guys on here persuaded me back into Zara and H&M which historically I had avoided because I find the choice and layout overwhelming! I don't find any of the posts competitve, I just love the variation of brands and styles talked about. It's the same comparing tops from Sainsbury's and Tesco (where historically I've bought some good quality vest tops)! S&B should be welcoming to all, and that's the way you've always been on here and on other threads. So tell me..... What are you wearing today? [Smile]

MarshaBrady Sun 03-Feb-13 08:56:11

I'll be up in a minute Shop then I'll let you know grin.

Primark pjs!
amber I have never joined in one of the A +W now Vogue threads before (although I've been on threads with most of you over the last year) and have found it v friendly and your advice and links are lovely.
Maybe I'm thick but I looked at that message and if its the bit about tempting folk with pricey bits I thought it was tongue in cheek. The fun of clothes is mixing stuff from loads of different sources isn't it?

MarshaBrady Sun 03-Feb-13 08:57:54

And I agree on links. The more the better, from anywhere.

I'm wearing Primark zebra print fleece pyjamas and a H&M vest shop. I'm so competitive, even in repose.

No drywhite didn't mind that comment at all, it was the post referencing the 'stylish mnetter' thread I started, plus the Loubs v. Manolos chat some of us have been engaging in. I'm certainly not competitive, I don't think anyone is!

Annianni Sun 03-Feb-13 09:03:38

I'm agreeing with the ignore comments above.

If you said on this thread, that you couldn't bear reading about people buying cheap clothes, there would be outrage.
But it's acceptable to say it the other way round... apparently...

I lurked on this thread for ages before daring to post.
But I now realise that it's just about pretty things and/or getting bargains.

However...

I adore the orange loubs and the silver Balenciaga and would seriously consider selling a child or maybe a kidney to fund them.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone smile

Cor, I love a bargain. It really pissed me off that I had to pay full price for that Tibi sweatshirt because my size had sold out on Shopbop! And if I do buy that Balenciaga you can bet your life it will be on a 10% off loyalty weekend at Harrods!

MarshaBrady Sun 03-Feb-13 09:19:07

Lol Anni and kidneys.

It's nice to share that holy hell I've just bought this or ah I really want this. And I love it when people buy and link things on here, I feel nowt but untempered joy about it. grin. I am pleased you're all shopping, means I can give the account a rest. So no competition no way.

I love a bargain too.

QueenCadbury Sun 03-Feb-13 09:26:34

novice have you also looked at www.notonthehighstreet.com/. They do lovely personalised gifts and spent a fortune on stuff for dh 40th.

I think there's a perception that people on this thread are 'snobby' but since joining in I've realised you're all very welcoming. It's a shame that it has to get spilt into 2 distinct camps. I love you guys for your eye for detail and colour. U pick out some gorgeous stuff that I would never consider. I'm trying to break way from my black obsession although I do still love a black outfit for going out. In the day I'm trying to wear more grey and navy as it is more flattering. I'm useless at mixing colour though which is why I desperately need to meet hopefully!

QueenCadbury Sun 03-Feb-13 09:27:33

Hmmm, not sure why you has converted to u. I don't talk in text speak honest!

Hopefully Sun 03-Feb-13 09:27:50

Thanks shop. Am loving having the blog back up, have got plenty of posts planned for coming weeks.

I would never dream of judging on budget - my Feb budget is exactly £0 until I've had enough clients to pay for my essentials shock

Am currently sporting m&s pyjamas, v old sweaty betty vest and H&M sweater and a sloggi crop top because my boobs annoy me in bed. <leaves thread>

Can I ask a very boring question - I desperately need some new pants! Nothing fancy and certainly no lace and satin! Something non nude would be preferable though. Any recs?

Well amber ignore. Don't understand why people need to be nasty .....I like S and B because I can read/ talk about clothes without feeling guilty.can't be bothered to read the nasty thread then.
Isn't a Primark vest good enough ?wink

I know, I'm so profligate spending £3.99 on a vest when I could get one for £2. I could be spending the change on Oxfam goats.

Annianni Sun 03-Feb-13 09:53:21

I'm sure you could make some pants from an old duster or something, to keep the moaning minnies happy.

I wear m&s 3 for a tenner pants because i'm boring I did get a nice set from the Rosie for autograph range.

shopafrolic Sun 03-Feb-13 10:09:26

I wear Freya Amber, purely cos I love a matching set and their bras are the only ones that fit me. Or good old M&S on can't be bothered to match days!

QueenBOObread Sun 03-Feb-13 10:17:03

I would be cross too Amber. God, could you imagine if one of us expressed the equivalent thought - "I'm so sick of all the cheap links and the competitive poorness". There'd be uproar! It's just so <rude>.

Hey ho.

Today I'm in Acne neon yellow sweater, Goldsign Raya high rise jeans and Hudson Encke's in coal.

MarshaBrady Sun 03-Feb-13 10:22:13

Gorgeous outfit QueenBoo. Love acne neons. Have a bright citrus angora scarf (although I know that will make Liberty itch grin). It is fabulous but leaves more hairs than a cat. Last time I wore it I took a de-fluffer with me in my bag.

I have a few expensive bits of underwear but the range is from Rigby & Peller (rare), Bodas, but mostly cheap as chips bundle packs from good old M&S.

shopafrolic Sun 03-Feb-13 10:25:14

Oooooo talk to me about your Enckes QueenBoo. Have you had them long? What do you wear them with (just jeans?)? Have they worn well? I love them. And these....
pinterest.com/shopafrolic1/wish-list-just-dreaming/

shopafrolic Sun 03-Feb-13 10:27:01

That should have linked to the Rosse boots on that board. Sorry!

QueenBOObread Sun 03-Feb-13 10:43:48

I've had the Encke's since October(?) I think! They've been my go-to practical footwear almost every day (less so now that I'm back at work, natch). They are supposed to looked a bit battered so they've done the whole parks/playgrounds/mud thing and have come out ok but clean up so you'd never know.

I tuck skinnies into them but have also worn with casual dresses. Would give a big thumbs up.

Marsha I have a practically unworn Tom Baker Mulberry angora scarf which makes me look as though I have been rolling around in my cat's basket. First time I put it on, it was for a trip into the office mid-maternity leave and I needed to look smart. Ended up in Cafe Nero de-furring myself with a roll of masking tape!

The only answer is to buy a camel coat...

LeFreakCestChic Sun 03-Feb-13 10:51:08

Hello, delurking to ask when Matches/NAP/ My wardrobe are likely to have promo codes? Love the links so far ladies!
Am v bored of end of sales and dark colours and need to wear more colour both at work and weekends. Having said that, have spotted a nice charcoal velvet skinny ( note the singular please) -mild concern over possible frumpy factor though. Thoughts?
amber fig leaves do great knickers, I can vouch for the plain suck it all in boob high--girdles--pants

MarshaBrady Sun 03-Feb-13 10:59:14

QueenBoo I know. It's bonkers. It's better without a coat. Am waiting for the weather to sit just at that level where you can wear just a jumper and scarf. A fresh, crisp sunny day at what 14 degrees. Come on London.

Hi LeFreak welcome! Not sure on promo codes, usually sent if there are a high amount of purchases I think, from those places. Link to velvet skinnies? Could be good!

sansucre Sun 03-Feb-13 11:41:58

LeFreak

NaP never do promo codes, at least not that I've ever heard of. (Well, not for mortals like us, I'm sure those in the business do have a special code.)

Matches occasionally offer free delivery, so it's best to sign up to email.

My-Wardrobe occasionally offer free delivery and the odd discount, so it's best to sign up to their email too. They also offer a loyalty scheme, which has its own benefits.

noviceoftheday Sun 03-Feb-13 11:53:00

Ooh fab, I hadn't thought of Not on the high street, QueenCadbury. Thank you, there are some lovely things on there, and I have got 2 40ths and another birthday this month so will have a proper look around later.

Today, I am wearing a Kaliko cowl neck top. dh looked at it and said "very chiffony" shock. I have some nice stuff from Kaliko's AW 2012 collection but their size 8s are huge which is annoying (bit like coast). I am also wearing my Gap high rise skinnies, and when I was out earlier, I had my Aquatalia flat knee high boots, black John Lewis Collection winter coat and pink pashmina. Now wearing slipper boots!

Decameron Sun 03-Feb-13 11:53:05

Well, I had sworn off Mumsnet after bench/Bretongate but this thread is drawing me back in!

Amber, ignore! My neighbour practically rugby tackled me yesterday to find out from where I bought my Ash Ambers. I like Calvin Klein for underwear, also Sloggi and good old M&S (not very exciting).

LeFreak, have you registered with Matches and My-W? They sometimes send codes to entice you if you haven't shopped much. I have black velvet skinny MiH jeans, I like them.

Liberty, I think we may be compatriots?

Novice, that bag is just beautiful.

Shop, I like your wishlist, esp the Burberry peacoat. I am definitely getting on next autumn (I say this every year).

I have been thinking about getting my colours done too and can see from photos that too much black is not great and know which colours are bad on me, but still a bit wary of having it done as I have spent so much on my wardrobe, I can't get rid of it! I wish I'd had it done when I was much younger. I think I will be marching the DDs along when they are teenagers.

I have not been buying much recently as going to Bicester next week and want a new Anya Hindmarch bag. I ordered these from the Donna Ida sale but my order is still pending so hope it is not cancelled.

Sorry about the double post!

Hi lefreak and welcome back Decameron grin

QueenCadbury Sun 03-Feb-13 12:26:30

amber I 2nd the m&s 3 for £10 pants. If you choose wisely most of them are non vpl. I find it's good to size up though.

Today I'm wearing a grey chunky knit Alexander Wang jumper over my new neon yellow 2nd day tshirt underneath (jumper has side splits for a flash of neon), black Goldsign leggings, Nike black wedge high tops and a black/white/grey checked scarf from Maje.

Hopefully Sun 03-Feb-13 13:09:30

Has anyone bought anything by Sandwich? They seem to have a lot of autumn colours, including some nice basics, but an always quality-wary of new brands.

Have upgraded from pjs to Drome petrol colour leather leggings (love!), long H&M teal vest, cream topshop sweater (horrible acrylic but nice shape) and doc marten triumph boots.

Hopefully Sun 03-Feb-13 13:10:22

Oh and Amber I go for the no volume m&s pants when on a budget, and lejaby no vpl ones when not on a budget.

Hopefully Sun 03-Feb-13 13:10:40

No volume?! No VPL.

MarshaBrady Sun 03-Feb-13 13:25:14

Nice Amber and Hopefully

Great to see you here Decam smile, love the Donna Ida sales buy.

I'm in indigo avedon skinnies and Sonia Rykiel skinny navy and white striped sweater. Green Stella M coat and well-worn pistols. Chilly.

MarshaBrady Sun 03-Feb-13 13:25:48

Afraid I haven't heard of Sandwich Hopefully, any links?

shopafrolic Sun 03-Feb-13 13:50:15

Waves hello to Decam. I need to update that wish list and remove the lack since having my colours done! But the Burberry is definitely staying on there. One day......
Another prune day today. Prune mohair A&W jumper and A&W chinos with these boots
pinterest.com/pin/122230577356543892/
Which are now looking beautifully beaten .
QueenBoo thanks for the feedback. They are definitely going to have to become mine! I love Hudsons.
Haven't heard of Sandwich Hopefully.

libertychick Sun 03-Feb-13 14:56:42

Feeling lousy today, sore throat, DD ill too so was up all night. Appearance reflects this. Wearing 2 items I really should throw out. Gap bootlegs that are too big but I am convinced the minute I chuck them out all the weight will go on again! and a fat face grey half jumper/half poncho thing that never seems to work no matter how I style it. They are on a 'maybe' pile of clothes that I am making myself wear so see if they deserve one last chance before they get dispatched into the Salvation Army bin. I think it's safe to say they are doomed.

In case any of you wear shorts these ones look great on the Donna Ida sale. I would so love to have great legs. I am hoping DD has inherited her father's long skinny leg gene rather than my cankle/fat knee/sturdy thigh gene! At 2 it's hard to tell!

And I realised I forgot to link the crumpet cardi I am waiting eagerly for.

Amber - ignore and keep linking all your lovely stuff. For pants I do M&S as well. Size up at least 2 sizes to avoid VPL and also Gap do some v comfy low slung boy shorts that I like.

Decameron - yes I am Irish. If the wedding ring didn't give it away then the above description of my legs would have done - typical westie where the breeding has favoured women with the preferred leg shape for chasing sheep up the side of the mountain.

Lovely boots shop

Waves to everyone else - I am loving this thread!

Decameron Sun 03-Feb-13 15:13:09

I'm sure you have a lovely set of pins in reality, Liberty! Lovely cardigan.

Wearing pale grey DKNY sweater, white H&M top, Goldsign skinny jeans and black Love from Australia boots. Colour is added by my red eyes (conjuncitivitis).

Great boots, Shop. I have abandoned the Balaenciaga fund, maybe will resurrect it for a Burberry pea coat.

Decameron Sun 03-Feb-13 15:13:44

Balenciaga

Hopefully Sun 03-Feb-13 17:33:13

grin At sheep chasing legs liberty.

Love the shorts, am struggling with what to put on my legs ATM. Love my leather leggings, and wear Me&Em dresses/whistles tube skirt with opaques and boots, but just can't seem to work out a good way of wearing jeans right now. Possibly because I am feeling a bit fat (fingers crossed current ridiculous exercise regime puts paid to that soon).

QueenBOObread Sun 03-Feb-13 18:06:45

Oh that Burberry pea coat is so well cut.

I pinned and lusted after the Burberry Brit toggle pea coat all winter but when I came to try it on, it lacked "wow" tailoring. Those pleats make all the difference. While trying it on, I tried one of their longer coats and was so impressed. I wasn't in the market for a new full-length coat so didn't hump at it, but wish now that I had. It was gorgeous.

Officially on my Autumn/Winter 2013 wishlist: Burberry coat.

Hopefully did you get that McQ dress in the end?

Topazandpearl Sun 03-Feb-13 18:49:52

Irish here as well, but I like my legs as long as they are clad in opaques! Just cannot do the tanning thing, either real or fake. One of the reasons why I prefer winter to summer clothes.
I have placed my first AR order (silk shirt and red skinnies. Looking forward to receiving them.
Hopefully can you let us know how to find your blog? Thanks.

Hopefully Sun 03-Feb-13 18:55:15

Which one Amber? The rope/chain print dark green one I ordered had a v peculiar hem, which looked scruffy on me.

Hopefully Sun 03-Feb-13 18:57:12

Topaz blog is here.

The one you were looking at just before Christmas, lots of colours, high neck, was lovely...

Hopefully Sun 03-Feb-13 19:17:39

Ooooh, that one. Sent it back. The colours were too wishy washy for me, and the fabric was a bit too heavy for the neckline, it slightly pulled it out of shape. It was a kind of heavy ponte type fabric, but don't think it was 100% artificial.

LeFreakCestChic Sun 03-Feb-13 21:44:17

Can't link on phone but can do lots of typos!
Velvet skinnies from Toast- thought they might do for both work & weekend. Toast can be risky, sone lovely stuff but some frumpy. Fingers crossed for these.
Saw post on Hudson boots and am tempted by the coal enckes. Already have the beige horrigans and they're the comfiest boots I've owned.
Crap weather here so what's a girl to do but go shopping? bought:
Stila convertible colour for a spring time glow (!)
EL insatiable nail varnish (if its good enough for Sali... But need DC to be out of the house for an hour so i can apply it properly)
Clarins lipstick
Rommel apocolips
Nappies & a

Apple purée. Then went home and cleaned the kitchen.

LeFreakCestChic Sun 03-Feb-13 21:55:01

And of course, that is Rimmel. Don't think Nazi officers had much truck with lip gloss. Although could be wrong.

Decameron Sun 03-Feb-13 22:07:03

LeFreak grin

Queen, glad I am not the only one who has started on the AW 2013 list!

Topaz, I like the jeans and shirt. I hate sunbathing but Dove Daily Tanner is the business.

QueenBOObread Sun 03-Feb-13 22:55:13

LeFreak I'm very much enjoying the typos.

My-Wardrobe is IME by far the best at issuing discount codes. One has just finished for £50 off a £200 spend abut they come along pretty regularly. I'll post if I see another one.

It's worth joining their loyalty scheme - you get extra codes, sale previews and £25 vouchers (I think?) for every £500 cumulative spend. I also go through Quidco and get varying amounts of cashback - they have the odd spell where it's 15% or 20%. You can get Quidco to send an email when the cashback rate changes and they have a connected deal.

noviceoftheday Mon 04-Feb-13 07:07:15

Morning all! Off to work today. Had a last minute sales splurge yesterday on some work stuff from Austin Reed. Bought a few dresses and a suit. Very good discounts! Also bought a couple of kaliko tops from John Lewis, they were £15 each. Will link later. Have a fab day.

Annianni Mon 04-Feb-13 08:24:01

My Donna Ida delivery is due today, i'll report back later.

QueenCadbury Mon 04-Feb-13 09:38:17

It's spring in the air. Off shoe shopping for dc3 so will have a little peek for me whilst at the shops!

Annianni Mon 04-Feb-13 10:41:27

I love Donna Ida.
Just had a frantic trying on session with ds2 (22 months) wanting to join in grin
I'll try them all on again later when he has a nap.

The Goldsign are amazing. I can see why Amber likes them, they are velvet soft, great fit and very flattering. Definately keeping them.

The Hudson are lovely too, butter soft denim and more of a relaxed straight fit, than bootcut. And the 32 was too big, it's been a while since I needed a smaller size than that. So i've re-ordered them in the 31 (fingers crossed) because they were nice.

The Nobody are also nice, lovely denim and fit, but they are what I would call proper skinnys and are too fitted on my calves (not a good look) so they are going back.

And finally we have the James, lovely colour, the same as the prune bowies, but not a good style for me. The fabric was good and holdy-in <official technical term> but the pocket placement on the back made me have a saggy bum, so they are going back.

And while I was ordering the Hudson in a smaller size, these Goldsign and these Hudson fell into my basket. The Goldsign are a smaller size but i'm juicing at the moment and have lost 3lb in 4 days, so I think they are worth a try. And i'm not sure about the pale denim of the Hudson but they might be nice for Spring.

Must not spend any more money, need to buy the materials for an attic conversion soon which won't be cheap.

MarshaBrady Mon 04-Feb-13 10:53:32

Excellent Anni love the report back post! Great shopping.

Topaz love the skinnies and silk shirt. Really lovely.

Mine are on their way from Donna Ida too.

shopafrolic Mon 04-Feb-13 11:57:27

2 parcels waiting for me at home apparently! Place your bets on whether that top is silk or not!
